Never trust the Meta-Score nor the User-Score! bunch if haters never even played the game.

Game is big and lots to do. I loved the fact that the game is not only about "saving the world", it was more of a multi-storyline game you will meet new people and species to learn about and to help with their conflicts and problems. and I loved the idea. Hours of crafting and exploring new worlds.

The big glitches were fixed by the first patch and the game was totally playable after that. I loved it more than ME3 and I am happy this has nothing to do with the Shepard series.

Whats disturbing is the cut scenes when traveling between galaxies and planets. I hate the fact that you can't skip it. They said that they are going to make them skippable with a future patch.

Pick the game at a discount totally worth it and play as a male character its a lot better than the female! it has much better voice actor.

Downside is that there is a bit little action in the game and more of talking to people and exploring. Since the biggest thing in this game that makes it shine is its combat and therefore there should have been much more action in the game. Maybe I need even more exploration to find battles.

This game, while not perfect and flawed in many ways, is still a Mass Effect game at heart and a damn good one at that. Currently I have not finished the game and am nowhere close and that is because I have already become so immersed in the world of Andromeda that I have literally done almost every single side quest i have run across. This game meets every single criteria you would expect from a Mass Effect game, great characters, compelling story and political turmoil, challenging decisions and in addition to that an amazing combat system. While the game does have its flaws and could have used some polish the animations are way overblown. Yes, sometimes they might be super distracting but I find that very rare. the one other thing I want to point out is that if you enjoyed Renegade in the original trilogy you, unfortunately, will be very disappointed. Your character while still molded around how you want to be cannot be the a**hole you made Shepard. Besides that i think Andromeda succeed as not only a being a good video game but a good Mass Effect game and if you are a fan of the series I highly recommend picking up a copy. Also for those of you saying the quests are boring, yes the actual side content might be boring, it is masked behind a compelling backstory, each and everyone, that makes each worth while and for those of you saying the writing is bad it is in noway worse than the original trilogy. My one other gripe with it is some iffy voice acting but considering there are over 1200 voiced characters, a few being iffy is okay and does not warrant a 4.2 score... not even close. Expand

Standard Mass Effect game, with a heavy focus on the squad and camaraderie. Overall, very solid and relaxing.

This game feels a lot more like a space odyssey and is a lot more immersive than the original trilogy.
Side quests are better than the original trilogy's.
Multiplayer is pretty solid and fun.
Great VA work from your crew.
    Enemy design is diverse.

    Cons:
Bugs. Excusable given the scale of the project.
Some of the characters are pretty ugly. Good thing helmets exist.
I strongly dislike Kumail Nanjiani's VA. He doesn't make a good Salarian.
Nomad looks cooler than it performs. Who knew the big car can't go up hill at >20kph.
Side quests can be kinda boring compared to ME3 loyalty missions or Witcher 3 (go here, kill that, come back).
    They brought elevator rides back...
Multiplayer difficult jumps very steeply. We've gone from crushing in Bronze to getting crushed in Silver.

I don't understand the hate here. I think this game is solid. It's fun, choices seem meaningful. and the story is good. Aside from a few visual issues, the game is great. If it didn't have the ME tag on it then it would better received. A lot of this hate is unnecessary, this is definitely a 6 at the least.

This game rides the coattails of quite possibly the most popular sci-fi game franchise of all time. In so doing, it starts us off from the very beginning of a story that has basically no connection to the story most of us love - just as Mass Effect did some 10 years ago'ish when the series first started. Not to say that is the only reason this game isn't as good, but that connection is a large component in its underachieving.

After playing about 70 hours of SP on insanity, I can say that the game is actually pretty damn fun. The combat is so much better than the other MEs. There are some unfortunate bugs, and that sucks, but there are some awesome fighting techniques. People seem to be b*tching about the animations, haven't seen anything out of the ordinary for ME. Loving the story as it has finally started to get going and my Ryder is a f*cking wrecking ball now.

+ Combat is awesome (takes a while to level up and truly take advantage of the combat system)
    + Graphics
+- Galaxy Map Upgrade (This can get a bit annoying after it loses its luster)
    + Story
    + Open world
    + Tons to do

    - There are bugs (Frostbite I'm looking at you)
    - Ancillary characters are odd looking (and you keep seeing them over, over and over again)
    - Scanning can get a bit tedious
    - Can't skip certain cutscenes meant to hide loading (SSD, enjoy the wait)
    - Characters say the same comments and often comment on things out of order. Blame this on poor programming/scripting. (This happens A LOT. Quite disappointing they couldn't catch these in QA)
    - There are some bugs that completely break Missions
    - BW should have sprung on a video tutorial series for all the new stuff. AVP, R&D and all the other stuff they added. The game has a ton of depth, but I got very little introduction into the mechanics and was thrown into it.

0 or 1 ratings, what the f___? I wish that Origin would suck it up and put a rating system like Steam so only people who own the game could rate it. Because Metacritic is shi*. Would help avoid these toxic, copy and paste posts on here. This is the exact reason Steam dropped Metacritic from their service. *He says as he posts on Metacritic. Blow me.

This game, while it has its flaws at launch (animation), is amazing. Honestly, following in ME1-3's shoes is an overly difficult task, but Bioware succeeded in delivering a f***ing beautiful game with a great story line and a semi-open world environment in which you can do things that you only could have dreamed of in ME1-3.

Starts slow, then gets progressively better. Even the secondary quests.

Exploration is good, combat is way better though, lots of choices in how to spec your character. They removed most of companion control in combat because I guess most didn't bother enough, you can still trigger combos by telling them to attack a specific target at the right moment. Can still choose how to specialize

Worlds are awesome but I must say, the bits showed in the trial are not the best representation of them (you are VERY limited there, so if that's your worry I can tell you the trial doesn't do it justice).
For some reason most of the problems with animations and facial expressions are condensed in the first 10-15 hrs of the game, then they become a rarity.

    Graphic is top notch.

Can't fully judge the story yet, but 34 hours in I would give it a 7.5.

Multiplayer is good fun, spent a ton of time on the mass effect 3 multi and this is very similar so I imagine I'll play this a lot too.

Regarding the actual game the combat is a huge improvement over previous mass effect games, its actually fun, you don't have to stay behind cover all the time, you can actually move around tactically and use all kind of cool abilities to deal with your enemy. The story is alright, so are the characters. Many people complain that the females look ugly, in my opinion they look alright. If you only care about looks you should stick to playing barby instead. Ah well.

I'm a little over 22 hours in and I am having a blast. I have no idea what people are talking about. The facial expressions (especially the eyes) are a little wonky, certainly, but the story / gameplay is super fun. It DOES take a bit of time to get to the main gist of the game, how all the components work, etc... (there is a LOT in this game, something we can all agree on). It's a big game...

Outside of some odd facial expressions and body movements during dialogue (eye roll), this game is flipping BEAUTIFUL. One of the best looking games I've ever played (saying a lot). Just amazingly gorgeous. The voice acting is superb, even if some of the writing sounded like it came from a 12 year old. While some here are talking about that, I've only noticed one or two things that made me stop and say "gah, they could have written something less cringeworthy there." To suggest ALL of the writing is bad would be dishonest beyond belief.

I think most of the criticisms here stem from this game not being the most perfectest Witcher 3 killer bestgameever right at launch, and only because expectations were so high for a beloved series. But I'm telling you... this game is massive, fun, gorgeous and is most definitely a very good game.

Feels like a mix between Inquisition and Mass Effect 1. Some parts of this game aren't as fleshed as they should or could have been. Examples such as the story being of a smaller or lesser scale than the original Mass Effect trilogy could be warranted. But I would argue that we need to view this as a new game. Some parts of this game aren't as fleshed as they should or could have been. Examples such as the story being of a smaller or lesser scale than the original Mass Effect trilogy could be warranted. But I would argue that we need to view this as a new game. Aside from the physics and the races nothing is left of the of the original galaxy. No Shepard, no Normandy crew, no Reapers or Geth etc etc. This is important to consider. Aside from Sovereigns monologues and the warnings we had not much in terms of opposition. Saren was not that scary or good in my opinion. The Archon is a piece of work and fighting him at several turns is good and you feel accomplished when you escape
The characters are as always partly hit and miss. Some people hated Kaiden while they liked Ashley and vice versa. Most people hated Taylor and yes, he was the most boring character. We have one of those here too though his loyalty mission was good. The other characters are fleshed out. There is more comedy good in some cases unwarranted in others. I'm certain they will adress this later on.
The most glaring problem I have is that the writing of the dialog is on sadly many places a bit childish. I know this game is tailored to mostly young people and I'm no longer a child like when the first game came out though sometimes it can be cringe worthy listening to and I hope they will fix this in the future.
The Voice acting is as always very good and only suffers due to the less than stellar dialog. Mostly it works though.

The gameplay in my opinion is very good. The addition of jetpacks adds another dimension that has been lacking and the adaptability the player can enjoy if they want it is very good and also explained well. This was a concern I had but the combat system is better than in the original trilogy.

The face animations are not always spot on. That only concerns Human and Asari animation. The eyes are sometimes a problem but I think that's a bug but might be wrong. The Frostbite engine isn't good when it comes to faces but when I consider Vetra, Kallo and Drack I think they did well. Kallo's face close up looks almost lifelike.

The exploration is well done. But it suffers from scale. It's a bit too big but consider how it was in Mass Effect 1. Mostly empty planets. This is bigger and is their second attempt. Consider the influence the Dragon Age team might have had so its natural it might emulate it. Smaller scale might have been good but you need to see the planets.

Overall its a good start to a new trilogy and I'll hang around Bioware's games for a good while. They all have their issues in some ways but always deliver a very enjoyable experience in the end . Good job :)

"They didn't follow up on mass effect 3, they left my beloved characters behind, I want to know what happens to Joker, ETC..." OR they are still on the mass effect hate train from the ME3 ending.

It's really sad such an amazing game can fall victim to so much stupidity. Developers and gamer alike should no longer pay attention to this site or it's reviews. People have figured out how to game it, and use it as a way to attempt to punish devs for anything they don't like. I have seen some people who threw the whole game away because there are gay people in it. Because it presents romantic relationships in a more organic way, and some of those potential relationships are of a homosexual nature. Ya, a guy hit on you. Guess that deserves giving the game a 0? Grow up.

All in all, if you miss out on this game because of the idiots on this site, you're missing out on what may be one of the best sci-fi action RPG's ever made.

I have 30+ hours into this game and the only thing that breaks emersion is the bugs and frame rate drop. If I was giving the game an honest review it would be around 8 or 7.5 according to how the game ends.

About 10 hours in. Game is pretty great. Writing is on par with the rest of the series. Some odd VO delivery and lip sync issues every now and then. I did not mess with the character creator so can't comment on that, as the series has a habit of animating the default characters better.
Combat is massively improved and much more engaging despite losing some of the tactical nature of previous entries.
    World design is superb.
I'm loving scanning all the things for lore.
As always, their alien design is top notch and the new entries are just as breathtaking as our old favorites.
I would give it 8, but will be leaving a 10 because a glance at the bad user reviews shows the Gamergate wackjobs are out in force against Bioware (par for the course).

This game is probably, no, easily, the best in the series thanks to the new free-movement combat system, the more relateable characters, and best/most companion missions. It even has the best multiplayer mode. The graphics+engine also blows many other games out of the water.

Are the facial animations bad? Yeah. So what. You get used to that after a couple hours. EDIT: Docked 3 stars

There is a heavy emphasis on making Ryder YOUR character. Instead of the black and white (or rather, red and Blue) Paragon/Renegade choices from the first three games, your dialog choices are based on response type, e.g. snarky, professional, etc and are more grey. This allows you to decide how YOUR Ryder acts in a given situation. The writing isn't on par with Mass Effect 2 by any stretch, and let's face it, Mac Walters is a decent writer but can't compare to Drew Karpyshyn. Still, the story makes sense and fits the theme of the game and the individual character developments are well-done. There are, however, some characters that don't sound right. Director Tann is voice by Kumail Nanjiani who was very good in Silicon Valley. His voice just did not fit as a Salarian. There are others but overall the acting and writing is done fairly well.

People complain about the animations and while there are some noticeable animation failures, Andromeda still has much better animations than any of the previous games.

Ultimately, this game is focused on exploration of both a new Galaxy and new characters. It does both well, though there is room for improvement. The game is worth playing, very much so,

I say the story is amazing because I really feel like it captures the loneliness, fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and wonder of being thrown into another galaxy where we know very little about it. The story feels similar to Stargate Universe (which was actually my favorite Stargate series). Plus the events that unfold when you arrive add a sense of mystery to the overarching story.

I also like that the characters that become a part of your crew are mostly regular people with pretty normal backstories, and that doesn't mean they don't have character depth or development. On the contrary they have a large depth to them if you continue talking to them and you find out more about their personalities. It's refreshing that these characters don't have some kind of "special" backstory that make them exceptional people because that happens in nearly every game (including previous Mass Effect games) and it gets old. Having normal people with good personalities around you is refreshing and it adds to the realism of the story of these people starting a new life in a new place far away from our System.

There are some tech issues in the game, but no show stoppers. Overall I'm very happy, and I'll leave you with this: I was playing several games when this came out: Ghost Recon Wildlands, and NieR: Automata and now Mass Effect Andromeda has pulled me in enough to drop the both of them and finish it first before returning to them. I consider that a win!

The facial animations are sub-par, that much is true. But the game looks and plays amazing otherwise! I don't understand people. "Let's hate on something, call it a complete failure and trash of a game just over one thing!". If you ask me it's their loss.

The game pays a lot of homage to Mass Effect 1, the first game in the Original trilogy and you can feel that this is still a Mass Effect game, even without our beloved Commander Shepard. It's a great game on its own, it has its issues but in the long run its nothing that takes away from the overall experience, which is a good experience.

The combat gameplay is what really shines through, the fluid animations here are great and presents very enjoyable fights against foes. I also like how they've made it possible for the players to form their own kind of classes by mixing powers, it invites you to try new and different things out and that in turn leads to replayability value. The Multiplayer is pretty fun, but not much has changed from ME3. It's like a very improved version of the mp that we had in ME3, and with the new combat gameplay it's a whole lot more fun. The new mobility invites for new types of combat aswell.

If you love sci-fi then you will enjoy this game, BioWare may not know how to animate faces properly, but they do know how to build immersive and interesting worlds. Epic game that I'd give 8/10, but since I've seen firsthand the kind of undeserved hate it is getting because it's somehow popular now to hate on BioWare and ME, I will give it a 10. I will be enjoying this game for many more hours.

It is a different game than ME1-ME3. This one heralds more back to ME1 with a slower and more exploration based premise. Fortunately, the combat mechanics are much more polished this time around, and it finds a good balance between RPG and 3rd person cover based shooter.

The quests are varied, some good and interesting, others not so much. But the total package is interesting and will keep you occupied. I think that EA/Bioware did themselves a disservice by having a 10 hour preview period and not allowing full reviews out ahead of this. I also think that they "miffed" the mainstream game reviewers by keeping the game mostly under wraps for its development. It is an industry, they make money when there is a stream of disclosure about new games - EA/Bioware did not participate. Thus, some of the "hate" is likely because of that. It is a business after all and never underestimate self-interest. That said, EA/Bioware could have handled the release much better.

There is a lot to do and discover here. If you enjoy exploration and discovery, with a solid combat system and strong RPG elements, you will like this game. The story is more Star Trek (original), than Star Wars (or ME2 and ME3); it is also a bit cliched. The characters are not as strong as ME2 but similar to ME1/ME3.

In terms of criticism, and some of the comments in the other reviews are well deserved - it does have some poor facial animations, some of the dialog is poorly written and flatly stated, and there are bugs. It is disappointing that so many game studios have taken to releasing games in a Beta state. I have not personally encountered any game-breaking bugs; simply breaking the immersion now and then.

In summary, 8/10 - not a GOTY contender - but if you want a good sci-fi exploration experience with good RPG elements and a solid combat experience, it is worth a look. If budget conscious, I would wait until a 25% or more discounted sale.

Mass Effect: Andromeda seems to be an ambitious project by a young and new branch of the Bioware (EA) studio. I recently got into the ten hour trial, and my impressions are largely positive, but with a very few negative impressions mixed inbetween.

Combat: Combat seems to be one of the strengths of this game. While I can see how some people take issues with the interface, which is unresponsive at times, the new fast-paced action combat is a welcome addition to the franchise. The new "active" biotic system feels much more alive and active than the old "wizard" system of tossing two powers out for maximum damage.

Characters: This is probably as "Mass Effect" as it gets. You will have some characters that you tremendously enjoy spending time with, and you will find characters that are...blunt. Subjectively, I very much enjoyed spending time with Vetra and Peebee, but I disliked Liam. It's very much like squads from the previous games: You will love some, you will hate some. There's nothing that sticks out sore, but nothing that sticks out perfect either. "Solid" is the descriptive term to go with.

Story: I will refrain from judging the story until I have completely finished it. The beginning was fun and entertaining, but I'm not about to judge a book by it's first cover.

Exploration: Exploration is similar to Dragon Age: Inquisition. If you like the (semi) open world setting of that game, you will most likely also enjoy spending some hours in Andromeda. The game offers side-quests and collectibles, as well as vast terrains that you can explore with the new "Nomad" - a vehicle similar to the Mako in Mass Effect 1. Except, obviously, it doesn't play like a piece of rubber all the time.

One of the negative aspects is probably the facial animations. While not as bad as some people would suggest, you can see some missing textures and details throughout the game. This is something that has to be fixed by post-release patches to receive a higher score. I would not perceive this as too annoying, but Andromeda is a Bioware RPG. This makes it necessary to look at character's faces for prolongued periods of time. In a game that relies on conversations, having these weird animations can be distracting.

Considering all the small details and previous games, I can see this as an ambitious first attempt at bringing the franchise forward. However, this is clearly only a first attempt, seeing that the game suffers from very minor but patchable bugs and glitches. It really needs some post-release work, but it isn't beyond salvageable. I'd consider it an average game as it is right now, but might change my mind depending on what's to come in a few months.

Also, I don't know if people has bad memory or something, I replayed all 3 mass effect on february, and the AI of the companions... well... you can send them to a position... make them use a skill... and that's pretty much it, yeah, just like andromeda.

The nostalgia pink glasses are SO strong with this game, replay the old mass effects, and, aside of the facial animations (again, they are atrocious in andromeda), there's a lot of aspects that people seems to have forgoten, or they just don't remmember how they were made in other Mass Effects.

The one thing that I hate, is the feminist agenda, that's laughable, every single girl on the game is a "normal girl" a.k.a absolutely horrible so feminist don't get triggered. Beyond that, you can;t even make a white character in the game besides the default one.

That's not to say it's without its issues, but like several other titles, players nit pick on certain things, IE a few animation issues, post it on the internet, and then it snowballs. Yes... it's a little distracting. But there are so few instances which relate to certain characters, it's just not game breaking.

Another common complaint is the writing/commentary from characters. This is one of my pet peaves- corny lines- but again it is not so bad that the game is horrible. In fact, I would say it's very similar from the ME trilogy. If you could handle it then, you can handle it now. It does remind me of some corny Netflix cartoons with really bad scripts.

Combat- I love it. Jump, dodge, combos, etc. Take cover, duke it out, you know the drill. There are a variety of new methods with profiles instead of classes, and it opens up a lot of different combat styles. It's definitely fun.

Graphics- The game looks beautiful. It's not the best out there, but everything from landscapes to the star system/galaxy map is impressive. Performance is alright- playing on an i5 6600k OC'd to 4.5 Ghz with a 1060 6GB, 16 GB Ram, and SSD. I play on mostly high settings with the latest drivers. It seems to float between 50 to 78 FPS, usually dipping during conversations on ships or in buildings for some reason. But it's definitely playable.

I'm not too impressed with this game engine. I had a similar complaint with DA:I, which was a horrible game. And thank god I can say there are very few similarities. But one similarity is that this is an "open world." No. This is a fake open world, where canyons, rocks, hills, etc. limit a lot of where you can go. It's basically corridors made to look like its open world. After having come from the new Ghost Recon game, it's a joke hearing EA call this "Open World."

The story is great. From beginning up to where I'm at, I am really drawn in to find out what happens next. Side mission stories aren't too bad, either. They don't feel like the horrible fetch quests of DA:I. They are somewhat interesting, and usually tie in with the main story.

Bottom line: It's Mass Effect. Bioware didn't do much to break from the mold. There's not a whole lot of new here, and if you had high expectations, thinking this would be the best game ever, you will probably be disappointed. If you like all the Mass effect games and accept them for what they are, you will love Mass Effect Andromeda.

It's good. All the criticism people tend to throw at it could also be applied to the original trilogy, especially the first Mass Effect, yet people have forgotten the bad parts of that and look at it through rose colored glasses. Combat has significantly improved.

This game should be considered as a new and hotel game in the universe of Mass Effect. If you expected the same epic from this game as from the trilogy, then everything is tolerable here. The game gives respect to ME1, it is very noticeable. As the beginning of a new trilogy, it's not bad, but do not expect too much from the game to not be disappointed.

I've enjoyed my first 8 hours despite a few things here and there that detracted from the experience.

Many of the user reviewers here have made good points, but giving this game a 0 or a 1 is a bit ridiculous.

I really find people giving this game a 1-4 to be melodramatic. 1-4 should indicate a fundamentally broken game that doesn't play, or only barely plays. Andromeda is not that. Yes, it has bugs. I defend the fact that I've not finished the game by pointing out that neither have most of the 1-4 raters on here.

Now, on to the things that matter. Yes, the narrative is uneven. When it's good, it's good, when it's bad it's more mediocre than awful. Yes, the voice acting is spotty. For the most part, and for all of the main cast, it's good. For some of the side characters, it is less so. The combat is as good as it's ever been - it would be the best in the series had they not disallowed control of squadmates. The UI is abjectly terrible, and the galaxy map is overbuilt, and while pretty, makes traveling unnecessarily slow. The characters are likeable, though none quite reach the original trilogy for memorability. Overall, it's a solid but flawed experience. There's potential here, but even when the game fails to reach it, the sky is not falling like some of the folks here would suggest.

And to the reviewer who said the game is locked at 30FPS - I recommend you check your hardware, because I'm running it 60+ on ultra.

I can see myself playing this game for a long time. I love talking to people, exploring, setting up outposts, it feels like you are accomplishing something this time as opposed to just barely holding back the reapers for another week before they ultimately almost wipe out all civilization. Then there is the combat, oh boy! It is so fun! People giving the game bad reviews always say that the combat is good, so it at least deserves a 6-7 for that. The story is great so far too! its like exactly like the other mass effects. if you dont like dragon age or the other mass effects dont buy it. combat is a lot more polished but it feels nothing like a fps. the moment you use push and pull combos and send people into orbit... makes that clear.
yes the story is a bit samey as mass effect 1 2 3 but the story on all of them where a bit samey. and isnt that what you want? its what i wanted a mass effect game...
honestly i would of given it a 8-9 but with 1s dragging it down ive given it a 10. deffinetly worth the purchase.
i dont get how people can give a decent game anything below 5. might not be a 10 for some but to me a 1 is if i cant get a game running or enter a game (for honor couldnt get into a multiplayer match still gave it a 6 on the single player campaign)

Obviously people writing down bad rviews either watched too many viral gifs and pictures and made their minds about this game without playing, or played only prologue. Game control and combat is familiar, key bindings match the first three games with a few extra features. The jump pack and scanner are cool. One hour in and you definitely feel the strong influence of exploration being the center point of the game, maps are not linear. I found the design of the first world to be a bit to busy for my taste, less could have been more here. After three hours I was enjoying the game play and the story started to improve. The game is not an ME3 sequel, it is a complete resign and feels like it in just about every way. I found the character dialog improved and more realistic than the paragon/renegade choices. Graphics wise I'm playing dual 1080's at 5960x1080 (perfect out of the box) and could only run High setting with FXAA and no AO, vsync enabled, to maintain 60fps. Since the official release, I've put another 10 hours into the game. It's fun, the worlds are stunning, I enjoy the combat, the "normal" difficult isn't too easy nor too hard, multiplayer can be addictive. I expect to log 300 hours into this game thanks to the amount of stuff the do and the fun factor of multiplayer. I like the story and the premise(sci-fi geek here), I even chuckle sometimes over the sarcastic dialogue options I'm given. The exploration is also pretty fun, and I really like the crafting system, it doesn't just hand you new weapons, you need to find the stuff to make them. Honestly, if proof of purchase were required to post reviews, I'd bet my life(literally, my life) that the user score wouldn't be anywhere near as low.

Now to clear up some of the blatant lies and exaggerations. The animations and dialogue aren't anywhere near as bad as some people want you to believe. It's not perfect, but I've seen worse get a pass, and the issues that there are really aren't all that common. I've purposefully watched the lips every time there's dialogue to see how it matches up, it's pretty accurate most of the time. Some of the voice actors could be better, but seeing how many voice actors there are, getting top notch actors for all of them would have been way too costly, and gamers are too spoiled to pay more than $60 for a game regardless of the cost to make it. There aren't "thousands of bugs", plus, no game is free of bugs, not a single one. It's also not locked at 30 FPS like I've seen people say. The optimization isn't bad either, most people just don't have a clue how rendering works or why some games are more demanding than others. The Nvidia game ready driver actually increased performance quite a bit. And yes, you CAN create a custom character that is very light skinned, I guess some people just haven't figured out that you have to select a white preset first, THEN go to customize. Also, there is no "SJW propaganda", if you think there is, it's all in your head. Including multiple races and cultures isn't being "politically correct", it's being factually correct. Black people are real! I promise! So are women, so are Asians, so are girls that like to keep their hair short. The inclusion of diversity isn't pandering, it's realistic...unless of course you think only white people should go to space...though I do wish there were long haired options for the men too(because how else would I recreate one of the guys from Immortal?)

Closing statement: It's trendy to hate this game and exaggerate the flaws, people don't think for themselves anymore and just jump on bandwagons, it's sad, really. Some of these reviews are clearly from people who haven't even touched the game, and I've seen some that are just copy and pasted from another review for the sake of adding another bad score. Certain groups of people want this game to fail, so they are doing whatever they can to sabotage it. Which is unfortunate for the people who actually DO enjoy the game. You're not hurting Bioware, you're not hurting EA, you're hurting your fellow gamers. You're putting the idea that it's the worst game ever in people's heads who would actually enjoy it, guess who suffers for that? Those of us who enjoy it, and want the multiplayer the grow and be able to do the missions with other people instead of sending NPCs out on them. Good job. Funny thing is...you're doing the same exact thing the "SJWs" you claim to hate do when they're upset about something, hell, you're even using some of their own tactics.

Try playing with the approach that this is a total new game, a total new story. After travelliing over 600 hundred years, in the hope of a new paradise to colonise, everything goes wrong. You then take the command of the pathfinder, and must find a plan b to save the whole colony from certain death.

There it goes. It is now about exploration, scavenging and survival. Breath-taking graphics, gameplay and animations. YES, animations. At least in 2560x1600 resolution, ultra settings and constant 60 fps. 1080ti owner here. I don't blame the people who are getting glitches in every corner of the game, but don't expect fixes in the first two days if you are running this game on a **** pc/console/video card.

The dialogues are simple, yet precise and effective. The music perfectly fit in every situations, while the voice acting is pretty solid. A whole new set of characters, that if you take time to interact and know them intimately will start growing in you. Combat is flawless, nothing to say about it. and LOL about the critics about the jet-pack, this is a sci-fiction game, it add so much to it !

So if your all about endless exploration and side quests, scavenging new discoveries and gorgeous places, get this game. You are the enemy in this new galaxy, even if you came in peace. Only the stronger will survive.

O and even for those who are actually waiting to buy this game in sale, I would advise not to. Donald trump will soon start a third world war and there will be no one left to play this jewel. Just my two cents.

Don't expect this game to be Mass Effect 4. Andromeda is more like the Hobbit in the Lord of the Ring Saga. An expansion story to the trilogy that offers new exploration in the Mass Effect universe. The writing is not as strong as the main trilogy. Enemies AI are just as dumb as every other game. There are some rough edges here and there, but it is not really game breaking in my opinion. The graphic is amazing, maybe not the animation work. But many landscapes are simply breathtaking on ultra settings.

Yes, the facial animations are odd, and it looks like an honest bug which could be fixed at a later time, but the other animations are fine, there are some bugs with them, but I'm sorry, there are tons of animations, voice, and facial bugs in every single one of the Mass Effect games, and yes even The Witcher 3 has some as well. I've played all four of these games and seen them played at least 5 times each on Twitch and can verify that yes, none of them are perfect. For me, this game gets an 8 out of 10. Its fun, the story is totally fine, yes it has some bugs like every other game, and the multiplayer is great! And dont even get me started on the movement system and powers system. They are amazing. Is it as good as Witcher 3, Zelda, and any other game? I have no idea! Because last time I check, this is Mass Effect, not the Witcher 3.

For people who enjoy Mass Effect, you will really enjoy this game. For people who enjoy shooters, space, and exploration, you will love this game. The dialog choices are literally the exact same as in Mass Effect 1 - 3. I'm sorry but people need to take off the nostalgia glasses for 2 seconds, because if I remember correctly one of the biggest choices in Mass Effect 1 which literally defines issues you will face in the next game is killing the console. The massive huge dialog choices leading up to that is Joker asking you should we kill them and you saying yes or no. Seriously, for a game to be a 1 or a 0 it better not start up boys, because a 1 or 0 means the game just didnt function.

Hi! Come on up here sit next to me *points to chair* I see you made it past the troll fields, and cynical castles. Good. Let's real talk for a moment.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a very good Mass Effect game. It is more akin to Mass Effect 1 with its rover exploration but sans the boring hours of just rolling over cliffs and rocks. In fact the rolling open world exploration actually has purpose and sense, you're job as Pathfinder is to overcome multiple obstacles to deploy an outpost on a planet. Dispose of a band of Kett, activate an atmospheric filter, deploy a station there and before you know it you'll see a living colony appear on this previously alien and barren planet.

Like Mass Effect 1, there is a constant suspicion this is leading to something bigger but you wouldn't know it in the opening 10 hours. There is minor build up in plot, instead there is heavy exposition and explanations for what the Andromeda Initiative is. Further, there is a ton of new character introductions that slow the pace down. However, Mass Effect 1 was in its day a near perfect game, brilliant in so many aspects especially the middle to end game. So why the Andromeda hate?

    Completely unfounded.

Yes SOME facial animations are bad (especially Standard FemShep and Director Addison holy moly those are bad). However its not game breaking, watch the scenes and move on. There are also some goofy sequences that seem unpolished and rough but again not game breaking just a little jarring. These are far and few between. And highly overshadowed by Andromeda's much improved combat. Grenades, biotics, bullets, energy beams, everything sizzles and just comes to life in a smooth and visceral way. It is by far the best executed ME combat ever done, which is far more important than a perfect digital smile.

Art design, solar system layouts, costumes, aliens, are just GORGEOUS to behold. As far as the writing goes, I am not sure where the complaint comes from with this. Its just like every other Mass Effect game, except I like most of the companion AIs and love interacting with them. There are several laugh out loud moments, not tongue in cheek, I mean HARR HARR out loud soda coming out of my nose moments, which is rare for a game.

Is it perfect? No. Does it feel like an amazing first chapter? Absolutely! If you liked Mass Effect this is a must purchase, and if you love listening to trolls that repeat the same thing the last guy said and rate 0 then don't check this out. However if you have any inkling towards action rpgs, a good sci fi game, superb combat, and gorgeous landscapes/visuals, then don't hesitate to try ME: Andromeda!

Yeah the character animation ( in cutscene or dialogue) are not the best, the UI cant be frustrating somethime but all in all this game is amazing.

Its a shame to see how Trial players are bashing on this game without actually trying it.

It took time for me to get into the swing of this game and ultimately classify it as a welcome and natural continuation of the Mass Effect series for a few reasons. The first reason: the character models are flat out ugly. They quite frankly feel unfinished. It feels like they used Dragon Age: Inquisition’s smooth and colorful models and tried to make them more realistic by adding extra texture and detail to the faces. Paired with the unnatural facial animations, and you are left with this strange midpoint between cartoony and realistic that is strange. When your character first jolts on screen, it is a bit shocking. You are then immediately greeted by more characters, and they look no better. I’ll have to look back, but I remember the models in even Mass Effects 3 looking better.

Adding to the rough start is the fact that it gets off to a very in my opinion rushed start. While I normally would praise a game for jumping right into the action and feel that more games should do it, Mass Effect is a series that values you taking your time. To boot, this game features a whole new story in a whole new galaxy with a whole new cast of characters. I would have preferred it if the game let you wake up, walk around a bit and learn who everyone was and heck, who YOU are. Instead, you wake up, you are engaged with dialogue, and suddenly, you are put to work. It’s one of the few times I was aching for MORE exposition. Between the rushed intro and the ugly characters, I wouldn’t blame most people from being turned off from the get go. It isn’t until you are off the opening location (an ark named Hyperion, one of several arks designed to aid the Andromeda Initiative) that you can breathe and experience what this game really offers the Mass Effect universe. And that “something” is great.

    Freedom.

I’ve often lamented the Mass Effect series for going in the wrong direction compared to where I thought it should go. I was disappointed that the games seemed to favor increased linearity over increased exploration, as I feel that a game that involves exploring space and building alliances lends itself to a more open world form of gameplay. Instead, Mass Effect 2 featured smaller explorable hubs, including the comparatively tiny Citadel. And then Mass Effect 3 increased the size of the Citadel while offering less compelling additional areas. Since then, open world games have become an increasingly sexy genre in the gaming world, and while this leads to a lot of games that are tiring because they are poorly done open worlds with nothing more than repetitive busy work to fill the map or worse, gigantic maps with nothing to do in them (No Man’s Sky), I always thought Mass Effect was a perfect candidate for a more open experience.

So when you arrive on your first mission you get a slice of the more open experience that will only become more open as the chains come off and you are left to your own devices.

Here is also when you will experience your first combat situations, and man. The combat is great. The combat seems to be a controversial subject to some people as the skill choices have become more streamlined and any limitations on weapon choice or play style based on class have been removed. The dirty word “casualization” will be thrown around plenty here, but more streamlined and enjoyable to play while still offering variety is not a bad thing. To boot skill selection is still up to the player and those choices will have a very material effect on how the game is played, making it no less of an RPG than previous iterations. Do you want to go all biotic to manipulate foes and hit them with devastating combinations? Do you want to go all tech? Do you want to go all pure combat? Do you want a combination? It’s up to you.

Further improving the combat is the movement, which was always an annoyance in the Mass Effect series. Before, Mass Effect was largely a pure cover shooter with an often-tricky camera and stoic movement. But now movement is a lot more flowing, making it much more fast-paced and fun. Cover now happens automatically when you move toward a wall with a weapon drawn and getting out of cover is as easy as just moving, making you feel much less stuck to walls. Dashing and the jetpack are great and make for a more quick and verticle experience.Maybe from the outside these changes seem radical, but when you play the game, the changes are nothing but a natural and welcome evolution to the Mass Effect formula.

After this tutorial mission the game begins to take shape. You now have an idea of who you are, what your mission is and your role in the game to come. You will soon be on your first proper planet complete with several side quests, ready to experience the truly great experience before you. If you try to get past the rocky start, you won’t regret it.

Also it runs really well on PC.

    8/10, very good

I suspect that the PS4 and XBOX One systems just don't have the power to run the game, and most PC users likely don't have the amount of hardware to run the game as it was intended.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is an expansive action role-playing game with some great moments that recaptures the highs of the original trilogy that came before it. Filled with energetic combat and fantastic sound effects contributed the thousands of talented voice actors. But suffers due to facial animation issues.

    Down to what works?
Gameplay is phenominal, I literally cannot put it down. 10/10
The story has me engaged, It starts off a little slow, lots of talking but it's a whole new franchise so it needed a set up. 10/10
Game looks beautiful even just flying looking for resources on planets and asteroids to actually being on various planets. Wow is it very often breathtaking. 10/10
Bugs and glitches? Nothing game breaking pretty standard stuff for such a large game 9/10
Multiplayer? Honestly I am torn because I want to play more of it but I don't want to drop the campaign but the multiplayer was just like ME3 but way better and I loved that. 10/10
The phone App? Nice touch, use it or don't but it is actually very helpful. 10/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's get something straight. It's not a 10/10 game, but I feel that with all the hate and 0-3 reviews it's getting, it deserves all the help it can get getting to a fair rating.
What's the opposite of hype? That's what happened to the game after all stupidly negative previews that came out pre-launch. Most of the things people were complaining are now gone. Facial animations, although never a strong suit with Bioware, are much better than what was shown earlier. Same with the movement. Some people mention lip syncing - are you serious? Lips are moving perfectly in line with the dialog - they open when they need to open, they close when they need to close. And there's no game where the engine allows mouths to actually form an O, so how is that a valid complaint?
Relating to the voice acting - are you actually f-ing serious?? There's ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with the voice acting! You like some, you hate some - just like actual real life, where I have a colleague or two I wouldn't mind punching just because of the way they talk and sound. But it doesn't sound fake. It doesn't sound bland. Sure, random non-important characters might not be top notch, but name one game that does not have those.
The writing is not that bad either - most of the quoted conversation lines demonstrating "how bad it is" are either gotten out of context, or came from the same person, that maybe, just maybe, was intentionally written like that. Because... You can't have Nobel prize, miss universe like characters everywhere. Here's an example - one line that was made fun of was "his heart was broken before it exploded." Yeah, written like that it sounds bad. But with a little bit of context *SMALL SPOILER* - An emotional girl after a Kett attack on their group, recollects the moment where a friend of hers (and their leader) was betrayed and shot by his best friend. The leader looked shocked at the betrayal and was shot dead by a Kett weapon as well (skipping some details for spoiler sake), literally exploding his chest. The girl telling this points out he very clearly saw his face and his surprise. What's weird with an emotional recollection that he died with a broken heart?
Are there technical issues - the game is officially running on my PC non-stop for 24 hours (started it up via a Korean VPN pretty early on the 20th) and I've not seen a single FPS drop, crash, or any kind of bug so far.

Most of the reviews hare are **** don't fool yourself thinking otherwise. First time I see critics give a game a fair score, but I'll start trusting those more. The gaming community is cancer at the moment. Just see what people say about Horizon: ZD. It's insane!

Your biggest "red flag" about the rigged scores is the fact that there are so little mixed reviews - and the fact that Negative reviews point out "I don't like the writing, the gameplay, the graphics, the voice acting or anything!", and the Positive actually point out examples, and give both pros and cons about the game.
Because the game IS NOT A COMPLETE FAILURE.

    7/10 easily.
