Bit tired of medieval open world RPG's, ME-A is unique in this category where practically there's no other AAA Sci-Fi, RPG, open-world(ish) game. This is a reason enough for me to rate this game a good score. Just for the effort.

Yes, it feels like it's a rushed game, like released to early or like you're playing an early beta but ME fans like me are thankful to Bioware for continuing the saga.

All and all the game together with its flaws is not bad, it's GREAT actually. It's not like the flaws are preventing you from enjoying this great game. It's just that people are comparing it to The Wicher 3 which is perfect and ahead of any other game in any category. Yet, I lost interest in mid game in The Witcher 3. I didn't care enough for the story or the quests to continue it. Maybe because as I said earlier in the beginning I'm tired of medieval, sword fighting look-alike games anymore.

But, there's another reason I rated it higher then maybe it deserves. It's the first ME game that's open almost as other open-world games and it's a Sci-Fi and has 100+ hours of gameplay.

Inventory and equipment organization could be better. Maps can be better and a minimap could be very useful! Some minor changes would be welcomed like the 'M' keystroke to be able to close the map and not pressing ESC twice. And of course the character animations are outdated. But as I said, I love the game, I pre-purchased it and didn't regret it.

ME: Andromeda is basically a mix of Witcher 3, Arkham Knight and Gears of War. It is a solid fun game. But it is unpolished and suffers from a few glitches. If you are able to overlook them, you are going to have a great time. if not: Wait for updates.

    3. Animations, are are a HUGE disaster. If EA will be happy with sales of Andromeda they will create another mess like this and sell it. So be prepared.

They treat it like any another company, -make the game at lowest cost possible, sell as AAA game.
    Witcher 3 is an exception.

Mass Effect Andromeda is an ambitious game with a wonderful core and expansive universe with a ton of lore and back story to draw from. At first I was somewhat lost at seeing the Sheppard story being left behind along with the Reapers and most things that we had grown accustomed to in the previous Trilogy. After the first few hours I began to see the new story unfold and the characters develop. Some characters that I did not care for in the beginning ended up being some of my favorite characters by the end. Bioware has delivered on thier epic story telling. With decent voice acting (all though silly at times) you begin to feel a sense of connection with every character. Before I go into anymore detail here is a list of pros and cons.

    Pros
    - Great Gameplay. Combat is a blast.
    - Epic Bioware story telling.
    - Strong new Protagonists that is quite a good sense of humor.
    - So much to do! Finished the game at 85 hours and still had a lot more to do.

    Cons
    - some bugged missions. 5 on my playthrough uncompletable
    - yes some of the character animations are bad but only on a few faces. Addison being the worst of them.
    - no real introduction to crafting. One of the crafting types i was hard pressed to max it out. Maybe it is this way by design?
    - few times characters would talk to me about story line stuff that happened hours before, yet they treated it like it was 5 minutes ago.
    - I did not really feel the need to utilize the class change system in any way shape or form.
    - No skip option on when you travel from planet to planet. It some cases u gotta sit through the ship flying for up to 30 seconds.....

Regardless of the cons I loved this game and would recommend it to any fan of the series. This is a game that needs to played through before forming an opinion of how good it is or not. It is not a perfect game but it definitely is a good game.

(In my defense i have to say that i loved Dragon Age: Inquisition) Maybe now, it's a bad game considering all the bugs and the animation problems, but in a few months when all of this **** is fixed it really could be a great game. The story, voice acting, characters, graphics, gameplay, writing and scope are all superb.

The only cons I have to voice are small compared to the good. There has been a massive stink, dare I say, "uprising" against Bioware and EA about facial animations and performance not being up to par. As far as the facial animations, I have to ask these people who are so upset - When have facial animations ever really been perfect in ANY game let alone in Bioware titles? I see some small weirdness in SOME of the facial animations and it doesn't really bug me that much. It doesn't affect my immersion or enjoyment of the game whatsoever.

As far as performance, I have not had ANY major issues whatsoever. I've played this game since the minute the early access Origin trial was released - No major bugs or FPS drops at all. To be fair I do have a high end PC, but then again the graphical settings are all on ultra and the resolution is down sampled heavily. The only bugs I have experienced are frankly funny ones that are no worse than anything I've experienced in games of this scope like The Witcher 3 or any Fallout/Skyrim game. Everything is BEYOND within reason, and Bioware is still going out of their way to address rampant criticism in both of these departments.

Also, yes there are quite a bit of Witcher 3 style side quests that can become a bit monotonous - but guess what, you don't have to do those if you don't want to! I know I sure as hell didn't do most of that type of quest in The Witcher 3 itself, the game itself that gets it's ass kissed as the best game as all time by many(which before you discredit my opinion by implications in that statement know that I have 165 hours into the game myself). If you want more of a traditional Mass Effect experience that you've grown to know and love in the trilogy, stick to everything else - loyalty missions, the great main campaign, or enjoying the dialogue and writing in a multitude of forms. Thats what I do, which is what most of the game is. Don't just blindly follow the hunt and fetch side quests if they bore you.

Overall, the main meat of the game is way worth your time. There are so many good things I have to say about this game. There have been so many moments of camaraderie that I've enjoyed between Ryder and crew mates that made me nostalgically think back of Shepard and his/her crew, although Ryder and his/her crew mates are entirely their own characters. That is an achievement in and of itself. The story is also great, the plot of going to a new galaxy to discover a new home for humanity with new aliens both good and bad, as well as new struggles makes for a profound story for me personally. Another noteworthy element is the combat and the vast array of weapons to choose from. Its so silky smooth that this could pass as just a pure action game under a different title. In addition, you have so much choice in your loadout and skills. The RPG element of this game ties in very nicely to that. Multiplayer is also a nice icing on the cake. It is extremely addictive, intense, rewarding, and FUN.

I truly don't understand the degree of hate and the volume of whiny people centered around this game. It has me baffled and really disappointed because Bioware has made a great game here. In fact, I'm going to go continue playing it now!

The crew, while bland at first glance, quickly become super memorable and entertaining. The open world exploration is the advancement that should have come from Mass Effect 1's planet exploration. The environments are unique, there is always something to do on the maps and while not Breath of the Wild size they still feel large in scale.

There are some issues, the game has some complicated menus and user interfaces making it hard to do crafting and finding certain features buried in menus. Also going from planet to planet has a super long animation of your ship going to the planet. However, while they look nice, there is no option to skip them if you don't want to see it making it quickly eat up patience. There are also some issues in the writing especially in the early hours of the game. The characters seem like they are trying too hard to be funny which comes off as incredibly unfunny, the main villain starts and stays weak throughout the game and the opening mission is full of "because the game needs to happen" moments. These problem, except for the villain, do significantly improve later into the game but it does effect those first impressionable hours.

Overall, the game gets right what it needs to get right. Your crew and the player characters development (I played as the male, can't speak for the female character) are what I expect out of Mass Effect. The gameplay and open world exploration in a game about exploring the unknown feels good. And the secondary stories are fun to experience compared to the main adventure. Hope the game has healthy post launch support and that sequels fix the technical problems faced in the game.

The review is only concerned with the single player. I liked this game better than DA:I because at least the combat is quite fun. Bioware's Mass Effect was known for being a story-driven action RPG. In this game only the main quest is truly story-driven. Even the companion quests have very few cutscenes and are not nearly as intense and connected to the main quest as in ME2, they are really shallow and I did not even do some of them which seemed to have no consequences.
This is really a game where I would have wished for less content and smaller worlds, but then let the side or companion quests be more intense and not fetch X from A and bring it to B.
You can get easily sidetracked by such quests and then get bored to death. I really recommend not doing these quests if you want to enjoy the little parts of this game that are enjoyable.
If this quasi open world type of game is the new Bioware style, I have to say I don't like it at all. I don't buy Bioware games for fetch quests and grinding. I would really like to see Bioware returning to making less quests and smaller game worlds, but better and more polished quests and places.
Couple that with the ridiculous SJW agenda, creepy animations and a lot of the humans being some kind of grotesque ethnomix you get a game of which one wants to avoid a lot of the content to not get bored, enraged or repulsed. In previous Mass Effect games the soundtrack contributed a great deal to the epic gaming moments these games delivered. While the main quest of this game has some good moments it never reaches the level of epicness, immersion and intensity of its predecessors.

This game has some serious flaws. Most of which could be fixed in several months as modders start repairing what Bioware broke. It isn't a terrible game, but it certainly feels sub-par when compared to the other Mass Effect games.

The flaws in the combat system shine the greatest when playing on the hardest difficulty as you will often be cursing the things that get you killed the most.

It is here where it feels like a serious downgrade from previous Mass Effect games. The only commands you can give to your squad is to either follow you or go to a location (which is very clunky and doesn't work as expected half the time). You can't order your squadmates to use their abilities at crucial times, you just have to hope the AI is smart enough to realize the correct time to use them (spoiler, they usually don't). Most of the enemies tend to gun for your character instead of your squadmates, so they aren't even very useful as decoys. And cover feels particularly worthless as almost any enemy will bum rush your location to flank you. Any semblance of tactics in this game have been completely overshadowed by the major focus on Rambo style combat that is pain in the butt to do at higher level difficulties.

As for the side quests (or Task missions), here is my advice, don't do them. You will spend more time aimlessly roaming massive landscapes looking for randomly generated quest objectives than you will getting your butt kicked by a Revenant Architect on insane difficulty. They don't offer much in the way of story and the rewards you get in no way outweigh the effort put in to completing them.

As many have said, the majority of the facial animations are bad. There are some moments where they are good, but most of the time the non-essential NPCs look like zombies with crazy twitching eyes. This is only made worse by the fact that your camera zooms in on the NPC you're speaking to, making the poor facial animations even more apparent than if it was zoomed out (like in other Mass Effect games).

There are also allot of unskippable cutscenes in the game. I understand that allot of them are there to hide loading screens, but the one place they should be cut down on is in the galaxy map. While it was cool to look at first, it quickly became annoying as you have a cutscene every time you try to look at a new planet. The galaxy map should be an interface to get you where you need to go in the most efficient way possible, not a starfield simulator that adds unnecessary padding to an already long game.

Customization in this game is worse than the previous Mass Effect games. The character creator is arguably worse than the one from ME1. Your character will basically end up looking like one of 9 different faces as you can't choose to switch out eyes, ears, nose, or mouth. The sliders allow you to change to change the size and position of individual facial parts, but your character basically ends up looking like a deformed variant of one of the 9 faces. And the locking of certain skin tones from certain faces is also a major bummer as it even further cuts down on the customization. Your squadmates are also severely lacking in customization options. In previous Mass Effect games, you could change their loadout, select different skins, and have more than 3 active abilities to choose from in their skills. The only options your really get with your squad is choosing which skills to max out first.

I've been a fan of Bioware games since the first KOTOR, and Mass Effect Andromeda is probably one of the biggest letdowns that they have produced to date.

Then there's all the half assed little details, rocks & plants floating in the air, they couldn't even be bothered to make an animation for when you get in/get out of the nomad/mako. They couldn't be bothered to make it so YOU CAN GET IN YOUR SHIP WITHOUT BEING IN FRICKING ORBIT! So you gotta watch a god dam cutscene every fricking time you go into your ship. They couldn't even be bothered to make space travel like it is in The Old Republic, either! Where you can still control your character while flying between planets on your ship. You know, like it should be? Half the voice actors sound like they are outsourced from India, the character customizations suck (DA:I had a lot more options than this game & even that was still limited) the combat is glitchy, enemies teleport around, companions are stupid & don't use cover or just take every bullet to the face, you can no longer control your companions freely like in previous games, crafting ****ing sucks because EVERYTHING REQUIRES EZO & EZO IS THE FRICKING RAREST ELEMENT! So you can't even ever craft anything because you can't find any god dam ezo! The UI sucks, & is a big fat cluster-fark, the UI glitches out constantly, the Nomad doesn't even have a fricking gun on it, the mako had a gun! Why doesn't the "New Mako" have a fricking gun? In Combat you get stuck on the smallest rocks, the camera is too close to you, & fixing the FOV barely does anything unless your outside combat, progression is slow as balls, the "Open World Elements" involve mostly driving around scanning **** etc.

The story was written by morons. "Fix this broken computer by using audio frequencies" "We can send messages to our family we left behind in the Milky Way 600 years ago WHO ARE FRICKING DEAD & it would take a million years for it to reach them! Daddy leaves messages on planets he's never fricking been to! The Remnant are just geth & the Kett are basically Chosen from the first games. "Planets" are just flat maps that you go between like in Dragon Age Inquisition, it's basically DA:I in space just like everyone thought it would be.

This game is a ****ing joke. If it weren't for the combat (which is sub-par overall but still enjoyable) the game wouldn't even be worth playing. The game just screams "Lazy" & "Half Assed" everywhere you look. Every NPC is lifeless, & does the same animation over & over when in world hubs, same with your companions. You'd think after games like Witcher 3 bioware would bring their RPG's into the fricking next generation, but nope. Just new generation graphics with the same dull tropes of the past, if not lamer tropes. $40million dollars... You'd think with that kind of budget they'd get some actual talent to make the game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's start with the fact that I've been a huge fan of Mass Effect ever since the first game came out. I've replayed the whole trilogy about 5 times and just ME2 so many times that I've almost memorised every fight and dialogue. I'm also a big fan of Dragon Age series and Jade Empire. Oh, and I've played as female Ryder.
A few months before Andromeda came out, I'd braced myself for the worst. I wasn't very happy with squadmates designs, but I kept telling myself to stay positive - sure, Cora and Liam look boring but it was the same with Ash with Kaidan and Miranda with Jacob. I was hoping for a variety of other interesting teammates. Personally, I think that in these BioWare games a good team is a half of success. Then I've heard about animation problems, which upset me - graphics aren't the most important thing (Undertale is an extreme example for that) but from this kind of game it is expected to have beautiful aesthetics. I've also braced myself for a completely new approach to ME universe - no Shepard, no Garrus, no Tali (or any quarians, for that matter!). I don't think it's a very big problem to me, I never saw it as an issue in new Dragon Age games.
And so, I finally bought the game last week (so expensive too, sigh). It's worth adding that my laptop only allowed me to play on the lowest settings, so that might have influenced my judgement. I've just finished and honestly, the only word I can think of to describe the game is: meh.
The game has its advantages. Obviously, I didn't go with standard Sara Ryder, I designed her in a way that she was ALMOST pretty (not easy!). While I still have mixed feelings about her character, I overall liked her. She was more relatable than Shepard, that's for sure. She was sassy, funny and sometimes awkward, much unlike the usual heroic commander Shepard. I'd say both protagonists have their pluses and minuses - Shepard gave the whole game a more epic feeling, but Ryder is in some ways more likeable.
Now, about the squadmates. The good ones include Liam (a positive surprise, I was worried he might be boring like Kaidan or Jacob, but he was really alright), Drack (no surprises here, krogans are always the best teammates) and Jaal (sweet, like I expected). Kallo was alright - a bit of disappointment, since salarians are my favourite race, so was Vectra. Peebee, Cora, and Suvi were irritating (honestly, I thought I'd throw my earphones across the room when I was scanning the planets and had to listen to her annoying voice on repeat) and I had absolutely no opinion on Lexi. I wish there were more squadmates to choose from.
Animation - what else is there to say? Everyone has already said something about it, so there's no point in dwelling on it. Yep, faces animation was terrible, eyes were soulless and female characters were all ugly, what the heck. Don't even get me started on asari, weren't they supposed to be the Attractive race with a capital A? They were even worse than humans.
Another minus - the villain. The Archont wasn't intimidating nor interesting at all, in my opinion. I didn't really understand what's his deal and I was hoping he wouldn't be the final boss. Oh well. Also, the bad guys are called the Kett? Like the Geth in ME1? I find it especially irritating since in Polish both of these names sound almost exactly the same (we also read "geth" as "gett"). They could think of something a bit different.
Exploring the universe was terrible. I did have to keep a book by my side when I decided I would 100% all of the systems. No hidden quests, no scanning, just right click on your mouse and bam - the planet is added to your journal. Now, wait half a minute to fly to the one next to it. No wonder people say it's a long game, I feel like half of the time was spent on flying from one planet to another (or opening the doors on Kadara).
I know I sound terribly displeased, but the game wasn't all that terrible. The quests were alright, they kept me busy, the design of new planets was good too. I liked that Andromeda seems to give you more opportunities to bond with your teammates than previous BioWare RPGs (but still, I didn't feel very attached to them, sadly. There are some holes there, too, especially when it comes to romances. I was quite displeased that my LI (Jaal) had nearly no interactions with other characters that would imply that Ryder and he are involved. I mean, my Ryder was already in a relationship with him when she started to aggressively hit on Reyes and Jaal had no reaction at all. I was hoping for something interesting to happen. And the dialogue with him didn't change after they got together.
To sum up - was it the worst BioWare RPG so far? Yep. Do I regret playing it? No, it kept me busy. And since it's a completely new story, it didn't ruin the original trilogy. Mostly it made me want to replay it yet again, so now excuse me, while I go play it or the Witcher 3. That's what I recommend to all the other unsatisfied fans, too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Joke of a game, do not waste your money. they will penny and dime you for dlc, there is no season pass. Design team is a bunch of hypocrites, advocating social equality and racial equality yet turn around and post anti white sematic and 9/11 jokes on their social media accounts in the case of lead game designer Manveer Heir. There is no actual assortment of romantic encounters that promote equality, as a female there are only 2 humans you can romance that are male, Hispanic and African American. there are no Indians, Asians, Caucasians, ect. as the male character there are quite a few more options but there is no equality there. the character presets are absolutely horrible and the games character graphics are worse that mass effect 1. The game is horrible as it has a serious lack of emotion and there are a lot of bugs and the story is incredibly underdeveloped. This is 2017 there are so many standards that are in games now that are %100 expected and delivered artistically by every other major game company out there and Bioware should never be allowed an exception. They did not do their job and flat out wasted 5 years and 40 million dollars by selling everyone this joke of a game. Bioware Edmonton will have to take control of this game and fix Montreal's stupid social justice warrior pride statement into an actual game that is respectable. Stay away until the next one is announced or you get bored and they have actually finished rolling out the last DLC. This review is pretty sugarcoated if you want to research my claims its not hard to read news bulletins on google or bing about the problems that this "game" has caused in the gaming community. heck pewdiepie has made a video bashing it. The story, game play and little bits of lore are good, but when you delve this deep and do everything, you will see bugs and the rare broken quest. Even tough I was such a high lvl, I never felt any stronger than when I was lvl 1. I decided to have my male Ryder stay single. I would have gone for Suvi or Lexi, maybe in the next one. Too little development to commit to Vetra. Cora's final interactions and scene were a train wreck, so yeah friend zoned. The game is definitely worth the 60$ though. I might replay as a custom female next... maybe. Still lots of potential for DLC or MEA 2.

Notes to EA: For story don't go the reaper route. Please put the game first and highlight injustice as being bad like Witcher 3 does. Don't push a political agenda, because those people don't play your games.

After 35 hours Mass Effect: Andromeda starts hitting its stride to a point where I had to edit my previous review score. The main story is fine, but I've been ignoring it to do all the side quest/companion quests and there is where the game started to shine. Not to mention you can upgrade your inventory to a decent amount, which was my biggest complaint.

Although there are still bugs it definitely feels like Mass Effect 8 out of 10. I understand that they messed up with ME3 and people still hold a big grudge, but don't let that keep you from this game. It starts out bad, but it gets good and at a point you'll say. Yes, this is Mass Effect.

It is not the worst game and does a lot of things right. The story could be a bit more dramatic, but the characters are all very well worked out. The gameplay is fast, active and the AI is pretty smart on higher difficulty. Personally, i had hardly a bug. The animations disturb a bit, but that is not THIS bad.

What there is of a story is paper thin and still feels stretched over a short game, the side content feels more tedious than interesting or engaging, and nothing you do feels like it has an impact on the world. Made all the worse that the ending doesn't care what actions you've taken, and in fact makes all the efforts of the character up to that point pointless.

If anything, the story and execution of this game probably proves you should take professional writers that will research and write for a game/universe that they're not interested in, than a bunch of fans that are more suited to writing fan fiction for live journal and don't bother to make sure what they're writing works with the feel of the world and what's established. Again it's important to remember, it's not the same Mass Effect we remember, it's a new galaxy, a new start for a new protagonist.

The writing is quick and sarcastic and in general more lighthearted. I feel as though many of the complaints originate from people assuming the MEA is meant to be serious and dramatic with pockets of comedic relief like the OT and thus chastise the writing as "cringy" or "adolescent". Rather, I find it quite clever at times in the delivery (especially with the excellent VA). In the original trilogy, some of the things said would have made me cringe just because the atmosphere of the game was so much more demanding, but here, because of the lighter setting, it fits right in place and makes me smile instead. Replaying the original, Shepard's voice and speech quite monotone in comparison and felt out of place when humor was attempted.

In a similar vein, I see people often dismiss the new crew as inferior to the ones of the OT. To be honest, I don't see how the comparison is apt at all. MEA is just an introduction to the Andromeda galaxy. We lack that familiar bond that grew over 3 games in the original Mass Effect, where when we first met the characters, they were essentially walking codex entries. The bond grew over time. The new crew starts out reticent to say much and open up over time as you earn their trust and get to know them. Most of the loyalty missions in Andromeda for me were either incredibly touching or great fun to go through.

Another common complaint is with lack of good side quests, and I think the heart of the issue lies with the fact that you don't really have to do them. They are there for fluff, meant for completionists (although the memory hunting quest is quite worth the effort). If you think back to the OT, there weren't really any sidequests that mattered at all for the story in a meaningful way, most also being simple fetch or talk quests, but there only being a few of them so it wasn't noticeable. Yes there are more of them now, but again, if you just want the big, non-fluff missions, go do the big non-fluff missions, you can play it as a linear game if you want. The sidequests are out there for world building, another way to gain info on and round out the new world you're exploring, cause after all, the main theme in this game is exploration. Some of the more thought out sidequests are quite interesting even.

This isn't to say that the game doesn't have it's issues. I've been fortunate enough to not have any game-breaking bugs, and the animation to me honestly doesn't seem nearly as bad as what many made it out to be (some are actually really quite good), though could definitely be polished, and at times it is quite apparent that the animators lacked the time or resource to sufficiently go through and polish each. There are also some design choices that are sometimes annoying like the UI design or map transitions, but nothing pertaining to the actual story that has had any issue with me. Also the major quests do feel shorter overall, and I feel this contributes to some of the bad writing complaints as the writing is in more concentrated pellets rather than a smaller ongoing story like before. If the Andromeda team set their sights a bit smaller and focused more on developing that core, I feel the game would have been much better received.

In the end I had a great time and felt like I was playing a shiny, new and improved ME1 with lessons learned from ME2 and 3. To dissenters, I wholeheartedly disagree with your ratings, but to each their own I guess. I see what the studios tried to do and I like most of what they have done. Back in school, one of the things I hated most was when I would be marked off for doing problems mostly correct or with the correct reasoning then lose all the points, knowing full well I have the ability to do the problem, just having missed the mark with most of the work there. That's what I feel is happening here to bioware. I can only hope that they take the lessons they learned from this release to craft even better RPGs in the future that satisfies more people. I'm just gonna judge the game by how much I enjoyed it: immensely.

TLDR: Loved it. It was a new and lighthearted reentry into the Mass Effect Universe that brought back some of the magic for me. Whether you like it probably depends on your own attitude going in. I just hope these bad reviews don't ruin the chance for a sequel

I think people set their expectations extremely high due to the trilogy we all know and love, and when Andromeda failed to be as epic as three games rolled into one during the first couple of hours of gameplay, they became very disappointed.

Andromeda is by no means a bad game. It reminds me the most of the first Mass Effect with a clear focus on exploration. The story isn't as urgent as with the trilogy, because there's no acute threat, "only" a need to establish a new home in a new galaxy, which fits well with the exploration theme and actually for once it makes sense to help people along the way - you do it for the survival.

The games certainly has some bugs and could use a bit more polish in some areas. I personally don't mind the animations, I think they're bad only on Addison and sometimes Sarah. What bothers me the most is the clunky UI and unskippable cutscenes when travelling between planets.

What on the other hand is great is the combat, which is definitely most fun from all the ME games. It's very dynamic, fluid yet not confusing and thanks to not being restricted to one class, you can switch between different playstyles or classes to your heart's content. The only questionable thing here is the limitation to only 3 active skills, which is somewhat negated by being able to switch your profiles and skill loadouts.

The sidequests are mostly interesting and the more boring "fetchquesty" stuff is clearly labelled as additional tasks and can be avoided completely.

    In conclusion:

    The good:

Lots of stuff to do and explore
    Combat
    Companions
    Great visuals
    Interesting sidequests
    Puzzles as fun

    The "meh":

Main story isn't as gripping as the original trilogy
    Some animations are iffy
    Occasional bugs

    The ugly:
    Clunky UI
Unskippable cutscenes that take up a lot of time

Overall a great game to get immersed in and explore new worlds.

DLC could save this game, and it could use some Witcher 3 style expansion dlc or something to bring out more of it, but the main issue is that it is a singleplayer mmo. If you focus on the main story then a lot of the issues won't be experienced outside of bugs and animation issues (I wore a helmet so Iw ouldn't be bothered by most of them) but you'll find a content drought at times when talking to characters as you find dialog doesn't really develop into more options or changes, especially the Nexus, and most outposts are repetitive and have no new content outside of EOS. Even vaults become a bit repetitive as only the first few are really "exploration", but regardless of all that it's still worth playing and it's still an experience I don't regret.

So 6.5-7 out of 10 is my score.

Metacritic isn't reliable as a source of 10 vs 0 because no one really using the full scale, but the positive and negative meters show a significant difference but still show people can enjoy it.

I also must say that anyone who rates this game below 5 is a pure troll and his/her score is not viable in any way. The developers put SO MUCH effort into creating this world/ all those characters etc, there is so much to do in this game , I can understand that someone may not like it, but this game offers so much that it's not possible to mark it below 5 unless you are totally unfair

However to be fair I must say there are several small bugs (like enemies disappearing after loading a save) and some of the actions are really repetitive or could be done much better, but I undestand that this would take probably twice as much development, but some of the potential is wasted for sure.

The gameplay is mind numbingly booring and the story is full with contradictions and cliches.
The dialogue options do nothing and there is 1 ending.
The game ends without anything being explained a bad 30 second cinematic and a sequel bait,

Impressions at E3 was terrible and told us that the game is ready or not, or the writers are afraid to show their product. The gameplay videos were beautiful, but strange. Also all appreciated the terrible animation of a female character. But hope was. I spent 50 hours to beat the game and play in multiplayer. This is not Mass Effect.

A feeling. many. who participated in the development of didn't care about the game. Advertising company again littered thanks to EA, the facial animation is bad (not terrible, but worse than in the same Wicher 3), the story is frankly weak. The only people who were good at your work it's artists. The scenery in the game are forced to admire him, all the planets are incredibly beautiful. Even painted and modeled space! This is the most beautiful space in games! The game looks gorgeous, but we love Mass Effect not for the graphics. Overall, the animation is normal. A nomad, nice to handle, he even slips on the ice. When you walk character, as in real life, to go around the different pits, crossing from ledge to ledge. Facial animation is bad, but don't destroy the game just because of her! It's a massive RPG, not cartoon. You need to enjoy the process of history. not the facial animation.

The main plot is very weak, and does not tolerate any criticism. The plot is like a fanfic. I don't believe that it was written by a screenwriter completed. A few hours, the plot is intriguing, but that intrigue quickly subsides, and we see a weak, predictable and cliched plot. The main enemy Arkhon is absolutely not interesting. And it looks .as if escaped from the movie Gremlins (are you kidding me?!). Kett - another humanoid, and not much interesting. Just the enemies. We were shown a new race - Angara. again, they are humanoids (the writers without imagination), though looks beautiful, especially the eyes. History and lore of the race Angara is very interesting. A new race is fully opened, which is good news. We also have a new extinct race - Remnants. The writers absolutely not revealed the lore of this race. Remember what interesting was the Protheans in the first Mass Effect? Remnants appear to be a robot, although Remnants - it's not the robots, just the writers not come up with that is this race.

But! It turns out that in Mass Effect: Andromeda main plot is just nothing. The most interesting tasks we give our team, and you can still find interesting job on the planets (although it is mainly sad scan). The developers have done everything that we fell in love with their team. And if you passed the game completely, and not stupidly ran the story, then you love them. Each member of our team is not just a puppet, and interesting character. Someone more interesting, someone less, but you are sure to find their favorites. Job they give are interesting, and sometimes with new gameplay mechanics. Make sure to do the job mates! It's the best thing in the game. The sex scenes also have - they are no better and no worse than in Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Multiplayer since Mass Effect 3 has not changed, which is probably good. The only thing that has changed is the combat system. And this makes a pleasant change to the gameplay. We run across the map, applied skills, and great strafe. Many people do not like the new combat system, but I thought it was very successful. We have three games sitting behind cover and shoot is boring. Now we can jump high, hover in the air, strafe. The dynamics of the battle has grown significantly. Also in a single company will allow us to combine classes. this is another nice gameplay innovation. Now you can be not only biotic, but also an engineer. Another gameplay mechanic scan. It's boring and not interesting. Don't do it. Many criticized the game due to scanning, so don't do it, it did not occur? In this game, a weak soundtrack, and most importantly - in the game it's almost unheard of, this is a huge minus. If you listen to him separately, like it is good, especially the song that plays in menu, but in game you music almost never awake to hear.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is not a continuation of the legendary series. we wanted to see. Weak dialogue (though certainly not all, there are very great), terrible plot (Mass Effect) ,and animation cause irreparable damage to Mass Effect. And if the animation can be corrected with patches, the story will remain a third-rate fanfic. despite this Mass Effect does not deserve such low ratings, it has many good features: quests of the characters, some third-party tasks, your team, the gameplay, the beauty of the planets. Give this game a chance, don't rush, explore the world, find interesting tasks (do not do a dull scan), and you will not notice how will these 50 hours. Mass Effect: Andromeda's not trash, just weak game - and this is the worst for this legendary series of games.

As for the bioware devs I excuse them - they just watched too much "gamer's poop" and got carried away with the animations. We have to thank them instead, because they integrated gamer's poop into the main game, so that manslayer doesn't have to.

Besides, the game was nothing less than I expected. I am get used to being milked by companies and there's nothing wrong with that. The game is clearly AAA quality, like other AAA games I have played in the past, e.g. Angry Birds. Nothing to complain about. So haters gonna hate, I am going to buy their next game as well and be proud about it and I think I have proven why user score is so, so stupid. We'll bang ok?

The "specialized" criticism has greatly attacked this game unfairly. That it is "the worst RPG of BioWare" is an exaggeration. It may not be the best of the developer, but it's not bad at all. The topic of facial animations is one of the big hits I see. However, this is only in generic conversations, those that are "important" - and in this every fan of Mass Effect / BioWare will understand me - have facial expressions more than acceptable.

A good game that have been given a lot of s*** above, both haters and media. This is why there is so much "fear" to put a hand on it. However, you will see that it did not stink as much as they want to convince you.

    Best:
    - Combat, fluid and dynamic
    - Exploration
    - Graphics, best in the saga
    - Charachters and their backgrounds and stories, as in all BioWare game

    Worst:
    - Charachter creation, really limited
    - Introduction somewhat abrupt, although the game gains much as one advances
    - Peer to peer multiplayer, this should end in games nowadays
    - Facial and gestural animations almost non-existent in generic conversations

Let me preface this by saying: In an era where we were graced by the quality level of GTA V and The Witcher 3, in what way is this level of quality release is acceptable?

If you're an old-school Mass Effect fan (like I am), feel free to skip this one - or get it once it's heavily discounted with all DLCs included. There is nothing Mass Effect about this except in name and the "sci-fi" theme. You lost control over your squad, you lost squad customization, you lost paused strategy, and you lost having all your abilities instead of just 3 loadouts per combat. Furthermore, this is not a Mass Effect story you'd love and respect. Facial animation and all the other glitches are one thing, the simple fact that you simply couldn't care less to the two main protagonists (because they're as bland as a sack of potato) is another. Unlike Shephard, the game removes majority of you meaningful interaction and decision by removing the Paragon/Renegade option. All four options of your dialogue wheels pretty much saying the same thing with a different intonation or sentence structure. If the original Mass Effect trilogy is an epic full-length premium cinema, this is their direct-to-DVD spin off.

If this is your first RPG however, and you never played Mass Effect before. Go for it. You have no greatness to base on, and the simplified RPG system of this game will serve you well as a training wheel of such genre going forward. Not to mention there will be more than enough flashy combats to keep your attention glued to the screen before you can repeatedly press skip on the next conversation.

TL;DR, if you're a Mass Effect fan, let the taste of that great masterpiece fade with Shepard instead of being marred by this new release. If you're new to the genre, the franchise, or just looking for a mediocre cover-based shooter masqueraded as a Fischer-Price RPG. This is for you.

In the era where we seen The Witcher 3, GTA V, and Horizon Zero Dawn, in what way this garbage release is deemed acceptable?

Yes, it borrows some idea's from our beloved science fiction classics. But who cares? It is a game, not a novel. Our chance to interact with those amazing worlds and people, we fantasize about. That is what made me fall in love with this series. A series that was developed as an RPG game with action elements. But, very important, an RPG game. And that is what Andromeda gave us. A spiritual successor to Mass Effect 1 and i daresay Kotor. I loved Mass Effect 2, but i disliked the amount of rpg elements they took out. But they gave us narrative and character building rarely seen in games.

Then came 3... And nobody was happy. They removed the soul of this series. Catering to the action gamers with an attention span, that forces them to buy cod games every year. It was linear, worldbuilding was non-existent. It didn't provide the experience i like to escape into. Trying to appeal to a public that does not really care about the game.

I have to say, i am pretty disgusted by the reviews i read about Andromeda. People act like it's murderous poison, that someone tried to force them to swallow. Andromeda has obvious problems. But you have to appreciate the love this dev team poured into this. From the unforgiving colds of voeld, to the sad state of the nexus. They tried to merge the best parts of mass effect 1 with the best parts of mass effect 2 and 3. And if you look a bit closer and experience this game. Looking beyond the subpar animations and the obvious feminist and diversity elements forced into it. It is actually a fantastic experience, loads better then 3. I feel like i am in a scifi novel again. Living on the wayfarer or firefly. Observing the shrike or trying to survive a planet like arrakis. Looking beyond it's fairly ugly shell, there is a fantastic experience waiting to surprise you. It would be a mistake to miss it.

Restricted worlds (world boundaries),and very few you can actually walk around on.

The ultra rare weapon/armor mods are not even worth the time and effort as they honestly suck as well which doesn't make them ultra rare, but rather ultra crippling. Kett weapons all look like sex toys and armor make you look like a big bug, skills that are actually useful and neat are only a handfull(mainly bionics and even then only like 4), combat skill tree is bare to the bone in any sort of actual abilities to use and if you want to have any sort of decent performing weapons you have to spend far to many points into this tree. Grenade, shield and concussion shot are your only options there. Tech tree is pretty much in the same boat too.

Pros: Combat is far more enjoyable and the worlds are at least pretty along with the visual effects. Cora's TnA.

In short, wait till this comes down to like 20$ then MAYBE it'll be worth the buy, maybe sooner if modders can fix what they broke or wont, minus animations and the dialog writing. Glad I only spent 5$ on this in which EA and Bioware will not see. Either be a true Triple A studio and Publisher or don't sell your products for anything over 30$. 2. Better combat mechanics.
    3. Okay voice acted, some NPC feels generic.
    4. Okay sound effects
    5. Music/theme is okay but the timing and placement of it is BAD
    6. It has bigger open world and environment compare to previous ME's

    Cons :

    1. Player customisation is limited and horrible and ugly default face type available.
    2. The story line is predicted, shallow and boring. This is came from Inexperince writer and stupid game director.
    3. Horrible mission design which is tedious, not memorable and repetitive.
    4. Amateur and horrible camera angle and cutscene (almost 90% of all cutscene are garbage)
    5. All main characters , NPCs are all bland and unattractive at ALL, all of them. Dont ask me how i feel about them when im playing them/interact, i dont feel at all :)
    6. This game IS NOT an RPG story driven game, its an exploration and shooting game. The story is there but it has no impact on the game overall.
    7. The open world is an empty open world. No Interesting places, No interesting events, No interesting PLOT and NPC ,
    8. Bad UI design , a real bad .
    9. Bad Optimisation for frame rate per second.
    10. Amateur and horrible animation, Horrifying facial expression, Disastrous lipsync.
    11. SP Campaign have 0 replay value . Yes it is a ZERO REPLAY VALUE.
    12. The game is buggy here and there. LOTS of it.

    B. Multiplayer Mode :
    ================================
    Pros :
    - None

    Cons :
    1. Boring and grindfest Horde Mode. Yes there is only 1 mode here just shoot the horde!
    2. Money grab EA style for treasure and items, which offers Pistols? Sniper rifle for Horde? I NEVER USE THAT THING!

I would like to like this game, but I cant. This game is real garbage ever exist since No mans sky. Yet this come from amateur , lazy and greedy people at EA-Bioware.

Thanks to you EA-Bioware for again dissapoint me as Huge Fans of ME2 and Dragon Age Origins. This game is worth$10 MAX, too many **** in this stuff, too many discrepancies not including the bugs.

My final verdict is 0/10 (Yes its ZERO out of TEN) TOTALLY DISSAPOINT)

An overall "ok" game that can be exciting and enjoyable. Worth playing if you can ignore some of the glaring problems. Honestly, this game could do with a lot of improvement.

    The Bad:
    - Horrible animation, facial expressions, gestures etc. Characters stand and walk in a ridiculous fashion.
    - Ugly, expressionless, lifeless characters. An intelligent and powerful female human or alien cannot be good looking?!
    - I really hate the traveling and exploration method. It is downright tedious, boring and a huge waste of time. Takes almost half a minute and multiple clicks to reach a planet when it used to place instantly. No skip button.
    - Romance was supposed to be revamped but its still the same **** Talk till a certain point, then before the final mission the romance scene takes place. The End.
    - This game seems to be tailored for the politically correct. I thought a game is supposed to allow me to delve into the fantasy realm and escape the real world politically correct bull****.

    The Good:
    - Combat is AWESOME and I really like what they have done with the skill selection and combat profiles.
    - The Research and Development system offers a wide variety of craftables weapons, armour and augmentations and is a huge improvement over DAI.
    - Beautifully crafted alien environments that sometimes take your breath away. Ample Fast Travel points located strategically.
    - I feel the Nomad handling and control is a big improvement over the atrocious Mako from the previous trilogy.
    - The storyline and setting is not the best but so-so only. Wish it was as epic as the previous trilogy.

This game is bad, really bad. I don't care much about the animations (which btw are really horrendous) or graphics. I was just looking for a nice fresh softcore sci-fi story. Instead, what I found is an actually simplistic plot, with ATROCIOUS dialogues, incoherent situations, plain characters, senseless events... summarizing: a stupid, superfluous and bad made childish story.

    Pros.
The worlds and graphics are alright, nice ambientation there (although the local fauna only experienced a funny chromatic variation depending on the planet). The gameplay is nice and fluid but in my opinion the encounters and fights in me2 & 3 where much more epic.

Anyway, I just made this metacritic account to complain about wasting money in this precise game.
Not that I care for paying 50€ for this load of crap but what I regret mostly is contributing to make these kind of "sub"products viable.

I'll start with the meat of the review, story. The game has bad pacing for sure. It unloads chore side quests on you in 2 major chunks and expects you to pace yourself between them and the main story. This doesn't work well for people who are used to ME2 and 3 who remember needing to finish everything to get the best possible outcome. It also makes squad interactions lacking, as these side stories only update along with main story missions. That being said, everything fits in with the universe and the quests do leave you feeling like you helped out the people involved. The main story I would say feels as epic as a mass effect game should, I loved each main story mission and these were always where I felt the most immersed, but the pacing does affect it negatively. Each squad member does have their own mini quest line in this game, plus some smaller side stuff for them as well. Each crew member is enjoyable in their own way and the game really does make you all feel tight-nit by the end. This aspect, unfortunately is also affect by the games pacing. Squad missions only update along side main story progression. The combat and exploration in this game is really superb though. They put a shine on the combat system of the 3rd game and made it more fast paced and intense. The huge open worlds to explore are beautiful and enjoyable to navigate in the nomad (my personal favorite was driving over massive sand dunes in a seemingly endless desert). It's confusing as to why the game was polished to look so great in this aspect but left conversation animations so disconcerting and strange. The biggest downside to this game for me was definitely the pacing. It left me doing large chunks of the same task consecutively as I went through my "to-do" list of chores and ended up making the game feel lacking when grinding through all the side quests. But I still very much enjoyed this game. Thing cons I have listed did not ruin the game at all, and for me this game is hopefully the start of many more in a series. I finished this game feeling supremely satisfied and ready for more. I've tried to be objective about the game so people can see where it really falls short and also where it shines through. As much as I love this game and would love to give it an 8 or a 9, I know that objectively I can't give it more than a 7. It is definitely a good game.

    In Summary:
    Pros:
    -Beautiful worlds and set design
    -Fun fast combat
    -Epic story
-Great new crew members to love

    Cons
-Animations are disconcerting and take away from immersion
-still plenty of bugs to work out
    -Quest pacing is horrible

But why on earth do those alien things from a different freaking galaxy speak perfect, fluent english, the second I walk out of my ship? And why do they look humanoid? And wait a second, are these *latin* letters on their computer monitors? Arabic numerals too?
Yup, "RW-DRB32". That's what it says.

So apparently 13th century europeans moved to a galaxy far, far away and interbred with the Twi'lek or something, who knows really. Trying to interpret any of this gives BioWare too much credit, they clearly didn't even try to make any of this interesting. When I first met the baddies and my AI tells me they are DNA-based I thought that that was a great little piece of foreshadowing, but turns out it was just bad and lackluster writing.

And lacklusterness is the common theme in this game. The dialogue is plentiful but pretty bland, my crew are pretty bland (although they do have their moments), the side quests are pretty bland, the bad guys are pretty bland, and the game in general is.

ggwp BioWare, bland/10. The combat is pretty good but if I'm only doing it for useless and boring quests then that's not enough to pull me into a game, I'm sorry.

PS: This whole game is blue/orange, what the hell. The menus, the people, their outfits, the plants, the rocks. To top it off they put a blue filter on top of the screen in half the areas, so even the greens are blue. I know it makes for good contrast but man, this game is overdoing it big time.

I was and still am a huge fan of the Mass Effect Universe but this installment just broke my heart after 5 years of waiting.
After completing the game 100%, sinking 75 hours, and acquiring level 130 - I have created these notes:

    Good:
    - Interesting story, overall.
    - Brought back and greatly improved the weapon customization from ME1.
    - Vehicular exploration with the Nomad (unarmed Mako) was somewhat entertaining.
    - Jump jets and evades were interesting changes to combat.
    - Alec changes appearance based on customized siblings.

    Bad:
    - MMO-style missions (kill X number of Y) which make you run around and re-kill respawning mobs for hours.
    - Horrible and ultra-dry humor which is constantly crammed down your throat during almost every interaction (British humor).
    - Overboard politically correctness with the dialogue and the ability to **** every living being in order to satisfy the pan-sexual demi-queer foxkin bloggers.
    - WEAK conventional weapons. Compared to the powers, the weapons are almost useless or just used to suppress enemies while recharging abilities. You could unload full mags into generic enemy heads without killing them.
    - Lack of emotion in the voice acting. Male Ryder is a MASSIVE **** I get it, he isn't a soldier like Shepard.. However, Ryder encounters a **** of combat and plays a major leadership role for the entire Initiative - his personality should change and reflect that.
    - Multiplayer is a recycled version of the ME3 multiplayer.
    - Unable to micromanage or customize squadmates like in the trilogy - making them godawful during combat.
-Uninteresting squadmates. They have bland backgrounds and are restricted from being controversial. They all remind me of Jacob from ME2.. Boring as ****

    Ugly:
    - Major animation and movement bugs, causing people to get stuck or fall through the floor. Suvi would never stand during some animations and would move around as if she was still sitting down.
    - Recycled graphics and animations which are not put together very well.
    - Horrible soundtrack compared to the original trilogy which lacks immersion and excitement (think ME2 during the Suicide Mission).

I really hope BioWare addresses these issues before the sequel. BRING BACK CASEY HUDSON!

Let's start with the elephant in the room here; facial and character animations/glitches. Not the quality I would expect for a Bioware release. Great, let’s move on.

UI: Definitely nothing as bad as say Skyrim when it was first released. It's not as intuitive as The Witcher 3 but you get used to it after playing a few hours. The skills section is well laid out and easy to navigate.

    UI:
Definitely nothing as bad as say Skyrim when it was first released. It's not as intuitive as The Witcher 3 but you get used to it after playing a few hours. The skills section is well laid out and easy to navigate. The buy/sell screen is a bit busy but reminds me a lot of the Fallout series. There’s a lack of sorting options and the way the game organizes inventory is a bit ‘meh’ but that’s very minor. The Galaxy Map has very little to scan but lots to read, quest interactions and pretty colours. It does feel like there's something missing though. The UI while in battle is perfect. There’s not too much going on and the pop-up menu for consumables/weapons and favorite set ups is easily accessible with great usability. There’s really nothing frustrating with the menus in this game and no glitches that I have come across.

    Combat:
I have to say this is probably one of my favourite parts of this game. No longer are you locked into specific rolls. I love the fact that I can switch from Adept to Engineer to Vanguard all in one battle. The powers are really easy to use and using Throw to launch enemies out of sight never gets old. The additions of auto cover (albeit this threw me off at first) and jump jets allows for fast paced and dynamic combat. Your sidekick’s auto-combo alongside your attacks much like ME:2 and 3 but with more explosions and satisfaction. As far as AI is concerned, it’s not horrible and not amazing. It works.

    Story/Questing:
I think the “rush” factor bleeds into this a little bit as well. One thing I found frustrating was the cutting out of conversations because I was moving too fast or scanning something and new dialogue would override the one that was occurring. I feel I missed out on some witty banter and mission intel because of this. Also, the abruptness of cut scenes was kind of jarring. Other than this, I found the writing and storyline to be pretty much on par with Bioware’s previous titles. I enjoyed the main quest line from meeting the Angara to figuring out what the hell is actually going on in Andromeda. I was satisfied by the ending and the fact that I could go back to exploring after the fact. The side quests for the most part are not the filler fetch quests you get in a large amount of RPG’s we see today. It’s obvious that Bioware took the time and effort to make sure they didn’t make the same mistake they made in Inquisition. That being said I’m pretty sure you can get through the game comfortably without mining at all. The mining is redundant, don’t do it unless you’re really short on minerals.

    Characters/Other:
I think this is the first Mass Effect game that for me, did not have that one character you could care less about. Cora and Liam almost fell into this but give them a chance, they provide good conversation and Liam’s loyalty quest was my fave out of everyone’s but I found them all entertaining. I enjoyed learning about everyone’s past and their views.

The multiplayer is a fun way to take a break and complete Apex missions in a more interactive fashion than just assigning teams to them. The AVP system is a great way to gain perks and earn credits. Not much to say about these, they’re well thought out and provide an extra touch to the game without feeling like it’s patched on.

One quick thing about the Nomad (your planet exploring vehicle); upgrade the six wheel drive speed ASAP. Other than that HUGE improvement on the Mako in ME:1.

I’m sure there are things I missed but honestly, I was let down more by Skyrim than I was this game. Sure there’s some beauty work that needs to be done but after 5 hours that dissipates as you get submersed into the universe. You just have to let yourself get submersed instead of letting other people’s opinions matter. I think this is a situation of ‘love it for what it is; don’t hate for what it isn’t.’ Mass Effect: Andromeda is a great addition to the family and I will replay it. It’s unfortunate that the marketing got messed up on this one and that this game will never get the attention it deserves. It’s a huge game and a lot of work went into it and that does show when you delve deep into the game. I read some reviews that judge the game on factors that get resolved later on in the game. For example, I believe it was someone from PC Gamer that said the open world was hindered by zones you couldn’t go to. If they had played the game enough they would have realized that this was only on one planet and you resolve that issue by completing a quest not too far into the game. Either way, I had a lot of fun playing this game and am looking forward to continued exploration and DLC.

The game's premise is intriguing from the outset. As you begin to unlock mysteries of the new universe you are confronted with challenging combat and enemies, unique, new characters and quests, and a new squad that has some truly great moments together as well as some hilarious lines.

If you are familiar with the other games in the series, there is a lot of heart from the original game contained within ME:A, but this is a great starting point for people to jump into the series. The new storyline was extremely interesting. The universe and maps are vast. The voice acting is top notch. I'm a PC player, and had almost no technical issues or facial animation issues on my playthrough. Andromeda is at its core about story, characters, species, and relations among its new inhabitants to the new galaxy. I recommend hardcore difficulty for a challenge on the first playthrough, difficult, but not too difficult.

Overall, after a 70+ hour campaign with quests left to do, I felt extremely satisfied and immediatly wanted to begin another playthrough much like how I felt after ME:1. While I was initially skeptical, ME:A makes me excited for the future of the franchise. If you compare the features from ME:A to ME:3, the game makes huge leaps in terms of customization, crafting, researching, incorporating and improving multiplayer, the graphics are awe-inspiring at times. The level design is unique especially among the different worlds (Frost, heat, jungle, and tech). ME:A is made to make the player feel like a true space explorer (For example, yes maps are huge, but that's how planets would be, vast, sprawling with points of interest scattered about the map). ME:A only makes you drive around the map once to unlock drop points or fast travel points to make it simple to quickly travel about the large maps. However, the first time exploring these giant planets is still a great experience to feel as if you are truly in another galaxy.

So for price they charge those are offending for buyers. I see many people say that bugs and glitches will be corrected later, sure, but right now they are still there and influence what you get out of it so much that it must be shown in scoring. Therefore score of 10 is just impossible, pure fantasy if you played game at all. I really don't think graphics are or should be most important in this kind of games, few glitches or bad animations don't make me hate a game, but also just good graph. doesn't make me love it. There must be at least some level of standard in place. Below standard story, characters and experience sadly can not be fixed so easily. Like in last Dragon Age they made a single player MMORPG 'open world game' with lot of fetch or go there missions and lost a core of Mass Effect universe and feeling. If you wanted to make ME online it would probably be right way to go but even then more would be needed. To be honest its not so bad as to get 0 score outright, that also is mistake. It has good points, some very good even, combat, driving, free exploring, arcade jumping and puzzle solving, but that's not what ME game should be. I mean if you like those things Myst, Truck simulator, Call of duty, Far cry, Horison ND or Tomb rider does it better respectfully. I understand that, maybe, someone wanted to go in new direction, try something new and its OK. Look at original ME or Witcher, every game something new, some better some not. But then you must do much better job and preparations . For me this game go in same basket with likes of X-com and C &C shooters, D&D fighting games Minecraft adventures etc., nice try, fresh ideas and so, but not good enough. It can be done, Star Wars proved it by having good and great games in wide range of genres. When it isn't up to the level better to scrap it or redo it like Blizzard did few times . Of course EA is in it for cash and all other be damned so they will continue to ship half finished, bad games for full AAA price. They tricked me with Dragon Age Inq. , for this game I had my doubts but choose to put my faith in Bioware and reviews saying that its not so bad, my bad as it happens. This game has lots of good ideas, some even work, others don't. I used to respect and trust Bioware , sadly not anymore. EA killed Bioware we loved and left a Zombie in its place moaning "we will improve, just give cash, more cash". Not for me. CD Red proved that you can make evolution/ revolution in a series and genre with Witcher and Gwent even, inXile that you can make good games with old formula and little creativity. EA and Bioware of today have shown us how not to do it and how to kill good ideas and series with bad work and conviction that anything sells with good enough marketing. Funs will by for old glory sake and others will by if you make it simple and just a little more LGBT and creationist "correct". Go with a time man, who needs story, characters and immersion, funny faces, jumping and dirt racing is a must. Next one will probably be ME Andromeda Farmville Expand

I absolutely love it. The first couple of hours drag by; this is typical for modern AAA RPGs (e.g. The Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn). However, once the first couple of hours are completed, the game opens up into a true open world(s) game that is utterly incredible. The story lines are compelling, the characters are very likable and relatable, and the dialogue is very realistic. Conversations don't fit the typical rigid and over exaggerated format common to many games, which may not work for gamers who are more accustomed to interacting with video game NPCs than having conversations with people in the real world. After 60 hours of gameplay, Mass Effect: Andromeda has impressed me more than I had ever expected and has become one of my favorite titles. I enjoyed this game even more than the original series. The story isn't quite as interesting as the reaper concept, but the rich open world exploration teeming with fun missions to do combined with the amazing lore the Mass Effect series has built up made this one of the funnest games I have ever played. Neither me nor my wife has experienced any glitches or strange/ugly facial animations with our Ryders. It took me a couple tries to design one that I liked, but once I did I had no issues throughout my play through. It seems that a lot of the people giving Mass Effect: Andromeda negative feedback are going into the game expecting to find something bad, only instead of reviewing it objectively, they critically search for flaws to reaffirm their expectations. This type of behavior, along with people rating it who have never even played it has left a game easily worthy of a 10/10 with a user score of 4.6. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game really is a mixed bag. I am surprised that many reviewers left out some important info.

First for the good: Yes, the game plays a lot like most mass effect games. Lots of fighting without it being too boring. There is a decent story line and lots and lots of quests. I also like the idea of being able to use any skill and not be locked into set classes.

    The bad :

First, there is an increasing tend for publishers to put in hard puzzles. thus, if you can't solve the puzzle, you are shafted. I know that you all love to do hard SEDUKU puzzles, right? Wrong. These are boring, and should be completely eliminated from the game. Even worse, they make the game very challenging just to find the puzzles in order to attempt them. It's a really crazy system that should be junked.

Secondly,The interface, especially the quest interface for quests is abysmal. Whoever designed the quest interface should have been fired. You will find quests under the quest section, which is expected and quests in various parts of the Codex among other areas. They really, really need to sort out the quests in a much easier manner, and have the current quest always showing what needs to be done. Why they didn't just put all quests in one area and sort them between main story quests, loyalty quests and additional quests, which could be further subdivided by area is baffling. Hopefully, some nice modder will fix this.

Third: tracking. Mass effect 1 was great because it was simple to understand and use. Sadly, this isn't true of ME Andromeda. For example, in older mass effect game sand with other RPGs, you might see a tracking line to where you need to do. ME Andromeda got rid of this and put icon at the top to follow. Sadly, some of the icons are hard to distinguish from other quest icons and they don't show a path to the quest area. You have to find how to get there and go through a lot of frustration.

Fourth: Yes, ME Andromeda got rid of the classes. You can now pick any skill. Sadly they limited the utilizable skills to only three at a time, which is much too little. Certainly, they should have had at least 5. Even Everquest, which had very limited skills available , had 8.

Fifth: The inventory limit is MUCH too limited. I don't know what they were thinking, but allowing only 50 slots was crazy. They should have allowed much more even if we had to purchase it at a vendor.

Sixth: Maps in the original Mass Effect trilogy were easy to follow. This isn't the case with ME andromeda. There are lots of obstacles blocking entry and egress , and it isn't clear how to get to a particular destination.

Seventh: Driving the Nomad is very tough at least until you get a number of upgrades. Frankly, players made a mod in the original ME trilogy that allowed steering based on mouse direction. Why Zenimax didn't incorporate this is frankly bizarre.

Eighth: Nothing is easy with this game or intuitive. For example, on EOS , we had to shut off a force field blocking entrance to a research area. After going around the area deactivating the shield generators, nothing happened. Doesn't "deactivated mean off? -- not in ME Andromeda. Players need to not only shut off the generators but destroy two of them. Frankly, this seems more like a bug than a strange puzzle.

Ninth: Crafting: In the trilogy, you can easily add mods. Now , no mods area can be added to weapons or armor unless crafted. Why? Frankly, I would have liked mods to be added to everything. Crafting is also much more complicated than it need be.
I think drafting should be a lot more simplified than it is.

Tenth: Sadly, unlike the trilogy, I found myself not caring about the characters. There certainly wasn't enough character development in the story.

What's even more shocking is that few people are talking about all this. Much of the reviews are focusing on the animation and modeling problems, which definitely need improvement. However, to me , the game play is much more important.

Bottom line: Yes, this does play fairly well and does have some of the compelling aspects of the original trilogy. If only Bethesda Softworks had sought more player input. It is only a C+ game, which isn't horrible---- just not fantastic like the trilogy.

(-) Never-ending, often boring side missions which require you to progress main story
    (-) Unskippable animations
(-) Your decisions have almost no impact
(-) Bad writting, poor voice acting, awful facial animations, flat characters
(-) After a while very repeatable

    (+) Combat can be fun

The opening hours of this game certainly do not convince one to continue playing. They are a slog, but I kept playing because I thought to myself, "Well, it can only go uphill from here, right?" ME:A is all over the place. In the 38 hours I've played, I've found that it covers the full range: sometimes the game feels like a well-oiled machine, other times it feels like a complete cluster****, but the majority of the time it feels a decent game that had the potential to be much better than it is and just needed more time and polish to achieve it. Combat is solid, fantastic even. The "main story" is pretty weak and is filled with cliches. The facial animations can be as bad as some people have noted, and there is some pretty cringeworthy dialogue at times. The music is just fair, but the audio itself is superb for the most part.

As far as bugs, the only one I've had to deal with involved some sort of conflict between Logitech's gaming software and ME:A. It was causing horrible audio and visual stuttering and latency which built up over time. The moment I turned off the software, however, the game began running flawlessly. (I play on PC in 1440p Ultra.) I've yet to encounter any significant in-game bugs. And, I've not suffered a single crash or freeze.

This game deserves a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 as is, but I do believe it could be patched up to an 8 (this may be a stretch) if they can fix some of the creepier facial animation, weird camera angles, and audio bugs.

This game is stuffed full of content however, 53 hours in and I've still not finished however 53 hours in and I've only just gotten the Villains motives which is far too late into the game.
In all honesty, if Mass Effect games are going to be like this from now on then I'd be happy if this is the last one. Whilst it's a nice reminder of what the previous games had to offer and whilst there are some good bits to this game, it's not something I'd want to play again. If Bioware are to learn anything from this, it is that they can't rush out these games. Again personally I feel it's not as bad as people are saying, there is some good in this game but it is a very flawed game.

Story and characters are weaker than ME2 (the high point of the series IMO). It's not a particularly challenging game, but then neither were the previous three entries. The game provides a good experience because it puts exploration front and center, has a pretty decent story, and contains serviceable characters. I have found a few bugs (for example I get certain messages before I'm supposed to) but nothing that a game reload won't fix. The dialog is weaker than previous games but not infantile as some suggest.

I have to say that I'm amazed at the rage being vented against ME:A. Many complain of the scanning and gathering elements, but I think they actually enhance the feel of exploration. If you wanted a story of ME2 quality, I can see where you might be disappointed, but several of the highly negative reviews I've read have little in common with my experience.

Graphically wonderful, there are a few bugs yes but non game breaking. The bugs will be patched, and even if they aren't still a 9 out of 10. The story is captivating and engaging while not becoming boring or monotonous to me. The only reason it isn't a 10 out of 10 is for the overall quality is a little lower than to be expected on some of the minor animations. Overall well worth the money

I'd have to write a novel to explain everything I have in mind, but I'll try to make this short (it won't be). I've finished it, played it for 97 hours total, done most of the content... so here is what I think:

    * NOTE that I am criticizing the CAMPAIGN here, because the Multiplayer is actually good *

MAIN NEGATIVE POINTS (I'll just focus on those)

    1) Facial Animations. They are indeed mostly [very] bad, especially for human characters. The eyes, in particular, are horrible and is the one facial 'feature' that contributes the most to the unsettling "expressions". There ARE * some * ... very rare scenes in which the animations are actually decent, but those cases are very rare.

    2) Humans and Asari, for some reason, are ALL UGLY AF. The facial * structure * (not the animations in this case) is mostly the same for them both (humans and Asari). There are some very specific characters that * do * have 'different', unique-enough facial structures that sort of distinguish themselves from "the rest". However, other than those specific individual NPCs here and there, ALL other humans (especially females, but males too) you'll encounter have either the exact same or nearly the same facial shapes and nose shapes and size, and mouth height, forehead size, eyes height, nose bridge, eyes spacing... etc. It's as if they took the game's own character creator, made maybe two models for Human males, two models for Human females, and two models for the Asari, and then they used those two templates for ALL OF THEM in the game. The only occasional variants are skin tone / color, clothing, hairstyle, hair color, eyes color and that's probably it. The facial structure variety is simply insulting.

    3) The Character Creator is BAD. The default Skyrim creator is better, and it's incomparably better with mods (which are free). The default Fallout 4 creator is also better. Heck, I've seen F2P MMORPGs with MUCH better creators than that. It's... it's horrible. It's WAY too limited. Not to mention that once more BioWare shows us that they do NOT know and probably do not WANT to give us more than a dozen HORRIBLE hair styles to choose from, especially for woman Ryder.

    4) The Soundtrack is VERY forgettable, unimaginative, unoriginal and quite simply boring. It doesn't help carry the story telling, it doesn't get your adrenaline pumping in "intense" situations, it doesn't "add" to any would-be 'sad' moments (there's too few anyway, wouldn't have mattered much I guess). It just doesn't DO anything. The main theme is "calm", but forgettable. The irony is that the track that plays during the Credits is actually the best you'll hear in the whole game. Additionally, the music specifically for the Multiplayer is also horrible, just turn it off, it's bad.

    5) CANNOT GEAR-UP TEAMMATES. I don't get why but they thought it was a good idea for ALL the items you find in the game to be used ONLY by and for you, Ryder. What is the point of even having the teammates with you? There's not even COSMETICS-oriented variations of their default costumes and suits. Can't change their colors, their color pattern(s), can't change ANYTHING. They'll wear those damn outfits for the whole game. Can't give them different weapons, or different armors to try out different builds. Truly, the only Mass Effect game that ever bothered to do that was ME1, and I actually liked it. But here's the thing: even if you don't want to bother with that in new Mass Effect games because it's too long to model different armor meshes for too many teammates and then balance those things with skills and stats then AT LEAST allow us to have SOME variations of their default outfits. At least give us the option to change the colors, no?! NOTHING?! Huh... okay.

    6) Galaxy Map Animations. Why? Ok, the first few times it's sort of "pretty" to look at, it's all dynamic and we're "moving" through the star system in real time. Alright, we get it, you guys are super cool for doing something like that. It will be remembered in the gaming industry for decades to come. Now here's the thing... IT. GETS. BORING. FAST. I played the game for 97 hours, probably 5 of those were spent waiting for those damn zooming-in and out animations to complete...

    7) ...and 5 more spent trying to navigate the HORRIBLE USER INTERFACE. That part of the game is actually probably worse than the animations. I don't think I need to go into details here because you can just SEE it. Also, the Multiplayer's UI is actually a downgrade compared to ME3's, which was admittedly very simple and basic, but was understandable, responsive and clean.

    8) The main story line is very generic for sci-fi, does nothing more or unique that wasn't told in other universes or even within the Mass Effect trilogy. It's not necessarily "bad"... it's just not "good". It's "meh", and forgettable, and lacked 'spectacle' and 'surprise'.

    ... etc.

There's more, but 5k characters limit is there to stop me.

If you don't look at the details or focus too much on some unexplained details, I see how you can dislike the game and start assuming plot holes. However, this is just an intro into a new universe, so obviously there won't be time to explain everything. After all, I got 60hours of gameplay out of the story, and I even skipped quite a few side quests. It also lacks some polishing, but I didn't encounter any game-breaking bugs. For some reason they've decided to shift the focus of a RPG game HINGED on story telling and characters to combat and exploration. Exploration isn't a bad thing and neither is combat, but when the MOST energy goes into those things and are still glitchy and bugged even after patches, it makes the game empty on a level the original series never dropped to.

DIALOGUE - There are some really good moments, but theyre drenched in amateurish writing made even worse by lackluster voice acting that sounds like each person was sat in a room, given no context to anything and told to read off all their lines in one day. Too many conversations sound truly off. I'd say Jaal, Drac, and Peebee probably have the best acting and sounded like they tried. Which is sad.

CHARACTERS - It takes WAAAY too long to get a feel for other characters. Its honestly sad that the most interesting conversations and revalation of personalities are hidden in side quests, emails, when you walk around the Tempest and happen to hear your crew interacting, and the codex. The **** codex. I was excited to go talk to all of them when I got on the tempest, but only a few of them really interested me.

QUESTS - Honestly, some of the quests are rather fun and make you feel like you're really making a difference and doing something. Like there are certain quests that are just so **** satisfying. But, the majority are busy work or seemingly heavy/important quests ruined by lackluster acting/writing. For instance, there's a mission where you need to save people within a certain time period. If you fail, only one person survives. You don't suffer any consequences. The remaining scientist is vaguely thankful and runs off. It seems meaningless.

Another good example is during a main quest for the main plot. You have to make a tough decision. Save one person versus a group of people that one of your crewmates have an attachment to. If you decide not to save the group of people, it feels meaningless. Your crew member is angry at you when you try to talk to them (ONLY ONCE THO) but it feels so flat, because the next time you talk to them they're calling you kid and gungho to follow you. THAT and it makes it seem integral to your enemies next move. But its NOT.

TL;DR: they basically took the feeling you got from encountering the end of ME3 and spread it out through the whole **** game.

COMBAT - This is one of my favorite parts. Which is sad. It can get repetitive but it's dynamic, exciting, and I mostly look forward to fighting new enemies.

PLANETS - They're suuuper pretty for the most part. However, you can tell it's half assed. The same animals are found in literally every planet you visit, but with switched color palettes. Like, what's the point of making highly different enviroments if the animals and problems are all essentially the same on each planet.

PLOT - Could've been better for sure. Again, it seemed like it fell to the wayside. They pushed the political and dire situations (which are the MAIN situations) to the side, and just sort of focused on the Archon, the main villain and beating him to his endgame. The game makes sure to point out how obsessed with Remnant tech the Archon is, but honestly this game is JUST as obsessed. Instead of focusing on how you and your other main cast are trying to navigate salvaging and coming through successful in a very dire situation, really immersing in the things that have gone wrong and pulling through, your REAL goal seems to be to kill the Archon. Right off the bat. While you're heavily crippled all around.

The very beginning mission where your father dies is sort of unbelievable and set the ton for a very sloppily written plot.

honestly, this might have been a bit harsh, as I'm still playing this game and do feel myself getting immersed and lost in it, but that's because I'm **** disappointed at how lack luster this game is compared to even ME3 which was arguably the worst one of the trilogy (not including the ending of course).

The graphics as a whole are absolutely great. Every planet in the game has had at least a couple screenshot worthy views. The animations for movement and combat are also very good with the occasional glitch here or there. The facial animations are absolutely awful. They can be covered in most conversations by forcing Ryder and squadmates to wear helmets, but it is impossible to completely avoid. This doesn't effect my enjoyment of the game, but it is understandable that others find it to be a deal breaker.

The combat is the best of all the Mass Effect games by far. The game offers many different playstyles and doesn't lock you into any of them, allowing you to switch classes (called "profiles") on the fly. The companions pull their weight in combat on normal and lower difficulties, while on higher difficulties they are less helpful. The one complaint with the combat is that they removed the ability to pause and issue squad orders that was available in previous Mass Effect games. I rarely used that feature in previous games, so its removal wasn't an issue for me, though it might be for others.

The companion characters are far more interesting than those of Mass Effect 1 (before they were developed further throughout the series). All of the companion characters have interesting developments the occur over the course of the game, especially after completing their loyalty missions. I believe that these characters are a fantastic base, and if sequels can expand upon them, they could end up with the same level of appreciation as the characters in the original trilogy.

The story gets off to a slow start, very similar in structure to Mass Effect 1. After maybe 5 hours of play, the story begins to pick up and by the end of the game, it is compelling and interesting with many questions to be answer and mysteries to solve throughout. The game has forced me to make several difficult choices that have left me sitting on the dialog screen for minutes at a time debating which decision is correct. The absence of the paragon/renegade system makes these choices all the more difficult because they are more morally gray.

While the game is far from perfect, it delivers on all of the things I care about in a Mass Effect game. It has great characters and a compelling story. The fantastic combat and beautiful environments make the game even better. While I can understand and respect the criticism directed towards this game, any Mass Effect fan who allows the negativity to prevent them from buying it is doing themselves a huge disservice, because this game lives up to the name, and I can't wait to see the story continued in another awesome trilogy.
