I never played ME before. Recently I've lived several weeks in ME 1,2,3 LE and then Andromeda.
And assessing the game as a whole with a fresh look without getting hung up on the some details, then as by me - it's the best of all parts - graphics, history, game-play, immersion in the Sci-Fi world - everything is better.
(I installed some life quality mods like MEA Fixpack)

Worth the wait and a fine new starting point. The writing and character development are different enough that you don't feel like they're trying to recreate a new Shepard, which is what I was wanting for this game.

In my opinion, one of the worst things people had with the game is that the Mass Effect concept was no longer new and fresh. I really hope Bioware revisits the Andromeda story, it's a cool concept and being an explorer attempting to build new worlds is refreshing instead of constantly trying to save the galaxy. My oldest son refused to play this game because of the negative reviews and is currently playing his first playthrough and he really likes it. Expand

Despite its early flaws, which are minor, this is a mass effect game from start to finish, fans of the series will find a worthwhile game and open minded first timers should enjoy a nice space opera too!

    Money well spent.

So ya, animations are a bit wonky? but to be honest... the previous ME games had this issue as well, rest of the game play is also spot on, lots of side quest long and driven main quest Basically has all the game play and story you would expect from a ME game, played for 2 days and still haven't scratched the surface! when did you last buy a single player game

I've played about 110ish hours at this point and I can easily say this game does not deserve a 4.7 user score. There's a lot of obvious anti-EA haters posting negative reviews here. I gave it a 9, however, to try to offset all the ridiculously low and undeserved low scores. Although I know there's already so many negative reviews, my one review won't make a dent. And as for people finding reviews helpful here... Basically if you write a positive review, the haters just mark it unhelpful--when they themselves are people who probably haven't even played the game. I find it ridiculous that people saying the graphics are bad when they're easily the best in the series. And while the animations have their issues, they are not nearly as bad or widespread as people would have you think. Recent update also fixed a lot of the major animation issues.

    Whats good about this game:
-The gameplay is fun and feels very polished. If you played previous mass effects and dragon age inquisition, you can see this game as the natural successor.
-It looks beautiful. Some of the best in space graphics I've probably seen in a game. On world, the detail is even higher and the game definitely feels next gen.
-In general i think the voice acting is pretty good. I like the lead actress who plays sara. And while this games lead female doesn't share the same serious tone as her predecessor, to me it still feels right. This said, there are some questionable casting decision for voice actors. Notably the female krogan in Nexus and your turian tempest crewmate, I think her name is vetra... although its admittedly hard to think of either races as having females.. so maybe thats why they sound weird to me.
-the leveling and power progression system feels rewarding, diverse and interesting. I also like that it does not lock you into one path and it is very easy to respec.
-First crafting system in the mass effect franchise

What I don't like about this game so far.
-While the animation isn't as bad as most reviewers would have you believe, it could definitely use a layer of polish. I think its unreasonable to expect fully animated faces with expressions for every dialogue interaction in this game considering how many dialogue interaction there are, however I do think more of an attempt should have been made in certain areas. Compared to other games out now though, I don't think this game is too far from the standard. I say this after having just finished horizon zero dawn. Also, I'd love to see zeldas facial animations.... O wait, there aren't any.
-The UI, while generally fine, has its annoyances. Its definitely better than some of the previous bioware titles though...
-Decision making throughout the game hasn't felt very impactful so far.
-A lot of minor little bugs, some of which have already been patched and I would bet most will be almost nonexistent in a couple weeks time with subsequent patches.

Haven't finished the story yet, but it does not seem as epic as the previous titles in the series. At the same time though, it definitely has the Mass Effect feel and sense of exploration and discovery is very good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. PREFACE: Playtime - 115 hrs - %100 completion of the game
I played this game after all of its many release issues were resolved at V1.10.

    Story 8/10:
Having played all of the previous Mass Effect games, and thoroughly enjoying all of them (again I played them all after their patches were applied so I had less of an issue with the ending of ME3 than most), I had had some significant expectations for this ostensibly new entry. Up until now, Mass Effect has been known to have an amazing and exceptionally well-built universe and set of characters and relationships. Andromeda carries on this tradition with a strong lead protagonist in the shape of Ryder and the journey you experience from her perspective. The basic summary of the story is that you are part of a Milky-Way comprised coalition of species who have travelled across the void of dark space to the separate galaxy of Andromeda, in search of a new home and new discoveries (with other motivations for the journey that are revealed later in the game).

You share the loss of Ryder's father, the shock at your apparently comatose brother and several other major revelations that impact her view of how and why she is on this mission at all. Beyond the personal story of Ryder, you encounter a range of allies and compatriots who team up with to on your quest to save the Milky Way mission and to provide assistance to the apparently native species of Andromeda called the Angarans battle against what appears to be an interloping force called the Kett. This is all with the background setting of an imposing and likely galactic wide “infection” that has been dubbed the scourge - an electromagnetic disturbance that has channeled it's way throughout the region of space you inhabit for the duration of the game (dubbed the “Helius” cluster - a section of the larger Andromeda Galaxy).

All of these elements play well together in the way that you are never feeling like you are on a linear pathway, but rather exposing and exploring a new frontier of events and characters. The relationships you build help to foster a significant amount of emotionality to the core narrative arc and gives a greater sense of buy-in to the major plot points and story moments in the main quest-line. The narrative itself does rely on several well-worn tropes, and typical hero's journey components, but done so in a way that feels novel and relevant for the context, for the most part. Your companions are also highly likeable and there is only one that I felt was significantly poorly realised in their dialogue and actions (Liam), but otherwise, the full crew you have is well fleshed out.

    Gameplay 8/10:
The gameplay is a massive change from the previous ME games, which I think is for the better. There Is more freedom of movement in the battle-space, and more options for cover (which feels fluid and natural) and for attack/defensive actions (the full array of powers you can learn and deploy is huge, and gives a good variance to play-style).

I found myself taking a largely typical “Infiltrator” style build for the most part (sniper, with stealth support), but found that the systems gave me a great amount of flexibility to bend the typical ME rules and limits of this style and mix it up with tech powers and biotics that only made the gameplay more dynamic and interesting (instead of stopping me from exploring various elements of action/gunplay/power deployment etc until the next playthrough).

When not in combat the interaction you have in the world is simple but effective for the main narrative purposes you are presented with. It, at first, does feel a little jarring going from absolute freedom of the battlespace (with rocket-powered jumping and hovering) to a very restricted movement area and interaction “hot-zones” but this division feels well balanced as you get used to it.

    A/V 9/10:
By far the most impressive aspect of the game. The quality of the character models, textures, lighting and detail of the environments and space scenes was really inspiring to see. There was a lot of care and time placed into the creation of this world and the inhabitants within, and it feels very satisfying to explore it all and soak up the visuals.

The audio is just as well crafted with appropriate, and unique feeling space atmospheric, soundtracks and sound effects to bring the whole world together to feel rich and lived in. This goes especially for the sound effects of the weapons, which consistently feel appropriate and give a sense of power and weight to each weapon/power.

    Overall 8.5/10:
I feel that this is a great continuation of the Mass Effect series and I really do hope that EA/BioWare take up and continue the story of Ryder and of the Andromeda Initiative again, despite all of the negative reactions from some fans on release. I applaud the developers for taking on some new ideas and bringing a freshness to this already very well established universe and game series!

Let's start with the elephant in the room here; facial and character animations/glitches. Not the quality I would expect for a Bioware release. Great, let’s move on.

UI: Definitely nothing as bad as say Skyrim when it was first released. It's not as intuitive as The Witcher 3 but you get used to it after playing a few hours. The skills section is well laid out and easy to navigate.

Definitely nothing as bad as say Skyrim when it was first released. It's not as intuitive as The Witcher 3 but you get used to it after playing a few hours. The skills section is well laid out and easy to navigate. The buy/sell screen is a bit busy but reminds me a lot of the Fallout series. There’s a lack of sorting options and the way the game organizes inventory is a bit ‘meh’ but that’s very minor. The Galaxy Map has very little to scan but lots to read, quest interactions and pretty colours. It does feel like there's something missing though. The UI while in battle is perfect. There’s not too much going on and the pop-up menu for consumables/weapons and favorite set ups is easily accessible with great usability. There’s really nothing frustrating with the menus in this game and no glitches that I have come across.

    Combat:
I have to say this is probably one of my favourite parts of this game. No longer are you locked into specific rolls. I love the fact that I can switch from Adept to Engineer to Vanguard all in one battle. The powers are really easy to use and using Throw to launch enemies out of sight never gets old. The additions of auto cover (albeit this threw me off at first) and jump jets allows for fast paced and dynamic combat. Your sidekick’s auto-combo alongside your attacks much like ME:2 and 3 but with more explosions and satisfaction. As far as AI is concerned, it’s not horrible and not amazing. It works.

    Story/Questing:
I think the “rush” factor bleeds into this a little bit as well. One thing I found frustrating was the cutting out of conversations because I was moving too fast or scanning something and new dialogue would override the one that was occurring. I feel I missed out on some witty banter and mission intel because of this. Also, the abruptness of cut scenes was kind of jarring. Other than this, I found the writing and storyline to be pretty much on par with Bioware’s previous titles. I enjoyed the main quest line from meeting the Angara to figuring out what the hell is actually going on in Andromeda. I was satisfied by the ending and the fact that I could go back to exploring after the fact. The side quests for the most part are not the filler fetch quests you get in a large amount of RPG’s we see today. It’s obvious that Bioware took the time and effort to make sure they didn’t make the same mistake they made in Inquisition. That being said I’m pretty sure you can get through the game comfortably without mining at all. The mining is redundant, don’t do it unless you’re really short on minerals.

    Characters/Other:
I think this is the first Mass Effect game that for me, did not have that one character you could care less about. Cora and Liam almost fell into this but give them a chance, they provide good conversation and Liam’s loyalty quest was my fave out of everyone’s but I found them all entertaining. I enjoyed learning about everyone’s past and their views.

The multiplayer is a fun way to take a break and complete Apex missions in a more interactive fashion than just assigning teams to them. The AVP system is a great way to gain perks and earn credits. Not much to say about these, they’re well thought out and provide an extra touch to the game without feeling like it’s patched on.

One quick thing about the Nomad (your planet exploring vehicle); upgrade the six wheel drive speed ASAP. Other than that HUGE improvement on the Mako in ME:1.

I’m sure there are things I missed but honestly, I was let down more by Skyrim than I was this game. Sure there’s some beauty work that needs to be done but after 5 hours that dissipates as you get submersed into the universe. You just have to let yourself get submersed instead of letting other people’s opinions matter. I think this is a situation of ‘love it for what it is; don’t hate for what it isn’t.’ Mass Effect: Andromeda is a great addition to the family and I will replay it. It’s unfortunate that the marketing got messed up on this one and that this game will never get the attention it deserves. It’s a huge game and a lot of work went into it and that does show when you delve deep into the game. I read some reviews that judge the game on factors that get resolved later on in the game. For example, I believe it was someone from PC Gamer that said the open world was hindered by zones you couldn’t go to. If they had played the game enough they would have realized that this was only on one planet and you resolve that issue by completing a quest not too far into the game. Either way, I had a lot of fun playing this game and am looking forward to continued exploration and DLC.

It's good. All the criticism people tend to throw at it could also be applied to the original trilogy, especially the first Mass Effect, yet people have forgotten the bad parts of that and look at it through rose colored glasses. Combat has significantly improved.

Due to the dire circumstances you face, almost everything you're doing has some importance and doesn't feel arbitrary. Side content tends to relate into the main narratives of areas very well. There is a HUGE amount of ambient dialogue in both hub areas and on the move. People move around your ship and the nexus chatting with each other. Exploring, almost everything results in a response from either your companions, AI or even NPC's from your ship or on-planet (over comms). In terms of the main narrative I'm pleasantly surprised by the tone, which I expected to be wholly goofy but am finding to be appropriately serious when needed (and a certain Asari companion, who pre-release led me to think would be an overthought 'quirky' type, also turned out to be likeable and well-rounded). Essentially, it's a Bioware game. You have a not entirely original plot greatly bolstered by a lively (and, in this instance, EXTREMELY talkative) cast of companions, weighty decisions with foreboding implications and a strong atmosphere that balances humour with dark circumstances. The game feels like Mass Effect meets Firefly.
Combat: very fun. It took me some time to readjust from the cover-based approach from the original trilogy, as things are much more dynamic now. Enemies are agile, charge and flank you constantly and make use of higher terrain. Luckily, Ryder is just as agile and once you embrace this, combat is great. I focused on trying to build a melee focused biotic and found that Andromeda allowed for this far more than the original trilogy, with charge and nova making a comeback, but also a new biotic shielding skill that allows you to maintain movement as you hold a biotic shield in front of you that reflects bullets back at enemies. Melee attacks also differ based on what you equip, so I assigned my character an Asari sword that swaps melee to a quasi-biotic charge, allowing for further tactical movement. In combination with Ryder's jetpack dodges and jumps (or biotic, if you have a biotic focused character), you have a much more dynamic battlefield.
Animations: Facial animations must be mentioned, due to the grilling they received pre and post launch. So in regards to that: they really aren't THAT bad. There have been improvements since initial launch and they were only noticeably poor in the first few cutscenes and from then on I've either gotten used to them or they've been fine ever since. Either way, I don't notice them and they haven't hampered my enjoyment. One thing that has been improved that I DID notice is the eye textures. Before they were creepy. The overhaul has removed this issue. In terms of combat animations, they're all solid. Movements have momentum and impact to them and you feel light on your feet or forceful, as appropriate.
Exploration: Exploration is (bear with me) similar to Inquistion. While this might bring up negative connotations, it's essentially a much more enjoyable version of Inquisitions systems. Collectibles are fewer, easier to gather and have narrative impact. Fetch quests are fewer and have a higher quality to them, with companions and your AI frequently talking about what you're doing. Unlike Inquisition, the camera zooms in for a more narratively strong approach to minor NPC encounters. You travel over areas rapidly with the Nomad. Overall, the exploration reminded me partly of Inquistion (but improved), and partly of Mass Effect 1 (but what I imagine the developers wished exploration of planets COULD have been in Mass Effect 1, had they the resources). It feels satisfying to explore; there is almost always narrative feedback for doing so and any combat encounters along the way are engaging and fast paced (no bullet-sponge fights ala Inquisition).
Bugs: 35 hours in and in one area I stopped receiving XP from combat; the only bug that comes to mind.
Much of the criticism of the game stems from the bandwagon of Bioware hate (beware any review that complains about 'SJW pandering') and the huge expectations that Andromeda had to face as a follow-up to the Mass Effect trilogy (note how much lower user scores are compared to critical scores). Had it been released as a new IP from an obscure RPG studio, it probably would've been hailed as an exciting rough gem. Comparing it to ME2/3 is unfair, given that they were building on established plot and characters. Compared to ME1, it holds up very well. Combat is much better, exploration is much better, the cast of characters is comparably strong and a lot more lively on and off the ship, hub areas have much more life to them, the tone is lighter but still has moments of gravitas, roleplay dialogue is slightly more expansive, the character creator is comparable but arguably slightly better, the main narrative is weaker but still enough that I'm interested in more plot content. Ultimately, is it a fun game? Definitely.

Hi! Come on up here sit next to me *points to chair* I see you made it past the troll fields, and cynical castles. Good. Let's real talk for a moment.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a very good Mass Effect game. It is more akin to Mass Effect 1 with its rover exploration but sans the boring hours of just rolling over cliffs and rocks. In fact the rolling open world exploration actually has purpose and sense, you're job as Pathfinder is to overcome multiple obstacles to deploy an outpost on a planet. Dispose of a band of Kett, activate an atmospheric filter, deploy a station there and before you know it you'll see a living colony appear on this previously alien and barren planet.

Like Mass Effect 1, there is a constant suspicion this is leading to something bigger but you wouldn't know it in the opening 10 hours. There is minor build up in plot, instead there is heavy exposition and explanations for what the Andromeda Initiative is. Further, there is a ton of new character introductions that slow the pace down. However, Mass Effect 1 was in its day a near perfect game, brilliant in so many aspects especially the middle to end game. So why the Andromeda hate?

    Completely unfounded.

Yes SOME facial animations are bad (especially Standard FemShep and Director Addison holy moly those are bad). However its not game breaking, watch the scenes and move on. There are also some goofy sequences that seem unpolished and rough but again not game breaking just a little jarring. These are far and few between. And highly overshadowed by Andromeda's much improved combat. Grenades, biotics, bullets, energy beams, everything sizzles and just comes to life in a smooth and visceral way. It is by far the best executed ME combat ever done, which is far more important than a perfect digital smile.

Art design, solar system layouts, costumes, aliens, are just GORGEOUS to behold. As far as the writing goes, I am not sure where the complaint comes from with this. Its just like every other Mass Effect game, except I like most of the companion AIs and love interacting with them. There are several laugh out loud moments, not tongue in cheek, I mean HARR HARR out loud soda coming out of my nose moments, which is rare for a game.

Is it perfect? No. Does it feel like an amazing first chapter? Absolutely! If you liked Mass Effect this is a must purchase, and if you love listening to trolls that repeat the same thing the last guy said and rate 0 then don't check this out. However if you have any inkling towards action rpgs, a good sci fi game, superb combat, and gorgeous landscapes/visuals, then don't hesitate to try ME: Andromeda!

Creating a new addition to one of the most beloved game franchises of all time is no easy task. How do you placate die hard fans while still creating a game that invites new and more casual players? It was clear from the beginning of my time with Andromeda that Bioware was attempting to create an amalgamation of gameplay features and mechanics that have been known to work in the past; and I can happily tell you that it comes together well. It was also fairly obvious that Bioware took some pages out of Dragon Age: Inqusition. Both use the same engine, and as we know Inquisition was graphically gorgeous; Andromeda with it's wider range of color palates, effects, and large variance in environment type comes out even more so. The feel of Andromeda in terms of character handling is almost identical Inqusition. Control isn't snappy by any means, but has a flow and a feel that is much more realistic and rewarding that a robotic playable character. Combat for Andromeda is extremely rewarding. The enemy types are not very expansive, however the ways in which combat can occur will vary greatly. It forces the play to be aware of their entire surroundings, not just what is directly in front of them. Numerous times I was focus on a shielded or armored enemy in front of my, just to find that another enemy had managed to sneak his way behind me and was shooting me in the back. Also, the addition of jump jets and climbing/vaulting makes combat much more dimensional and not just for the player. Enemies jump up and down from platforms, constantly changing their positions against you, and the AI does a smart job of making enemy movement feel organic. Of all the things that Andromeda improves on from the original trilogy, the combat is the biggest. Bioware has also done a great job of making Andromeda a deeper RPG experience than the original trilogy. Players are no longer locked into a specific set of skills, abilities, and weapons based on class type. The possibilities for different character build types are massively expansive, and the wide range of weapons, armor, and modifications allows the player to tailor their character to an even greater level of specificity. To this effect, Bioware does some really smart things with how armor, modifications, and attachments can effect gameplay. For example, a pistol barrel attachment that increases weapon damage, but also decreases the clip size for the weapon, or an armor mod that increases shield capacity by 50% but lowers overall health by 50%. This type of stat modification really forces that player to make smart decisions on how they develop their character, and makes the choice of equipment a deeper endeavor than just what looks cool or does the most damage.

As a Mass Effect game, story is extremely important. I think it's important to recognize that Bioware was in a tough position when trying to create a story for Andromeda. To remain canonical, Andromeda had to let go of a lot of details from the original trilogy, which can be frustrating for die hard Mass Effect fans. Also, creating a protagonist threat on the scale of the Reapers in which the player arrives in a new galaxy that is unaware of the players existence is a tough thing to pull off. Overall, the story for Andromeda falls short of the original trilogy. It's not a bad story by any means, but it's hard to avoid the comparison between the level of writing between the original trilogy and that of Andromeda. I for one am hope that the series will continue and Bioware will have a chance to appeal more to die hard fans with a story more on par with the original trilogy, and possible even with a bit of canonical overlap.

Outside of the the story, the only other complaint is the quality of the animations. As most of you reading this are probably aware, Andromeda has some serious problems with character animations. The root cause of this is hard to determine, however it's obvious that Bioware made some major slip ups in regards to facial animations. I should clarify that for the most part the animations are on point. Not perfect by any means, but most of the time are perfectly acceptable for a large budget AAA game. I have also noticed that the facial animations seems to get better as the game goes along with only a few strange hiccups later in the game, however none of this effects gameplay in any way.

In my opinion, Andromeda makes a great addition to the Mass Effect franchise. With a few fixes of some minor issues, the game could garner an even greater response. It's a must play for any Mass Effect fan, or any sci-fi RPG fan in general. Bioware has demonstrated their ability to create amazing worlds that players continue to crave. I look forward to more from Mass Effect in the future and hope that this is not the last offering from the series for years to come.

I loved this game.... After 88 hours of a wonderful experience I'm satisfied by what this game showed me. At the beginning the game has a slow pace, but it was predictable as almost every new universe of an RPG game. It had lots little bugs that (most of them in animation, which was fixed later).

Love the game. Finished with 63 hours and 96% completion. A couple quests bugged out, but nothing game breaking. I do feel sorry for people who did have issues with bugs (based on reviews and bug reports, I feel lucky. Then I look at the thousands of people that had no issues, and brush it off), and that couldn't get over the facial animations. If all the people talking crap about the gameLove the game. If all the people talking crap about the game (since they are obviously amazing at graphic design and animations because they have pretty strong opinions) got together they could probably put a good game together. But I digress, it's a good game, it feels like an open world version of the original trilogy. A few too many "fetch" quests, felt like everyone I talked to needed help with something. But overall, a great game, good story that was engaging and borderline addictive. If you like Mass Effect, you'll like this game. Expand

I found the initial problem for a lot of users is that the first dozen hours are slow as you set yourself up and learn the optimal controls/ tactics/ lore

But when you've invested time you get left with a beautifully slick product that is as much a work of art as it is a game. The combat - which previously seemed slow and boring - is AMAZING. Eventually, when you''re a high enough level you can create multiple combat profiles you can swap between depending on which enemies you face - affecting your abilities, powers, ideal weapon choice etc. The movement in this game - initially sluggish - when you master your sprint, jump jet and dash enables you to whip in and out of enemies and to go to scans/loot. Even the NOMAD presenting problems as you learns its capacity and buy its upgrades.

The beauty of this game is it is a RPG and you're in a new galaxy with no idea what's going on - sounds pretty similar to your current position as a gamer. This actually helped me engage in the game as i wanted to delve into the THOUGHT-PROVOKING storyline/ themes (spoiler - they are amazing and the ideas the story presents might very well soon be real-world issues: automated workforce/ AI?!. I found once i slowed down my gameplay - took time to explore the the various dialogue choices all around our starting position and even reading the codices! When you've got your research, development, leveling, scanning, combat, inventory, looting, dialogue and movement sorted the game is beautiful: it just takes time to get this(and your ship) set up.

I think the reason this game is getting poor reviews is due to a 'fast food' culture we see ourselves in: Max enjoyment in minimal time. But if you take time to appreciate the game and story and learn the mechanics you're left with the most incredible game I've ever played.

This game has so much complexity and depth - delivered so well that it's a massive disappointment seeing bad reviews for a AAA game. Opinion: i'm worried this might lead developers away from creating games with such complexity and depth until you are left with dumbed down console ports.

I tried to detach from the orignal trilogy before jumping in and so far, I'm enjoying the game a lot. Maybe so patches came since the launch but I don't get so far why people are pissed off by the animations, nor by the story. I love the combat, the characters, the A.I., the ship. Everything is there to get me hooked and to make me want to go on and discover the new worlds lying out there.

So far, the PC version I'm playing is greatly optimized and I'm running it without hiccups with a gtx 960 and i7 4770. Sure I'm not playing at highest settings but I never cared about it. It's better looking than console counterparts anyway. If you have a gtx 1060 or more, you're in for the full show, the way Bioware wants you to experience their game.

If you like sci-fi, if you loved Mass Effect and if you're a tad open minded, go ahead and buy this gem. Sure it's a little rough around the edges and there are some distracting bugs but nothing to stop you from enjoying a great sci-fi rpg with a good cast and some sweet ideas. And please... don't listen to the haters out there. Yes, I believe that a new franchise without the Mass Effect label would have helped the game getting more praise, but in the end, the Mass Effect universe merit that you dwelve into it once more and even if some parts are clumsy or not fitting the universe 100%, they really tried to get the serie in another direction and in my book, their work mean a lot and merit to be appreciated, played and enjoyed.

I have sunk tons of hours and now level 46 and soon ready to complete the latest main mission. I'll complete the game for sure but thought I had enough to write a review and believe it deserves it.

    What I liked is that:
    - it's big and somehow the main story, side missions and fighting keeps me interested all along
    - love the jetpack & various options to dispatch of the enemies, for me it does not get repetitive.
    - lots of choices at various mission with outcome you care and still enjoying the romance options
    - lots ( one could say almost too much ) dialogue & voice over ( though I should mention I went for the French version as I am bilingual) -> I don't listen to it all but I still enjoyed
    - graphic & science fiction setting are as good as ever.

I decided to purchase it on the PS4 as I was afraid my computer would not run it well and I had to adjust the TV resolution to 720dp and enable the zoom to make it comfortable to read and it's too bad they did not release a patch to allow to increase the font size but after a while I got used to it and it did not bother me as much. ( just zoomed in on occasion)

You could obviously expect more polish but considering the negative reviews, I was expecting a lot worse and was surprised to have so much fun. The glitch and weird animation that pops up just made me smile instead of Grinch -> no game breaking bug so far.

All in all, I say give it a chance on sale if you enjoyed the genre or previous mass effect games.

You have driving, a shooter game, puzzles ( loved them, it's something different ) and different worlds to explore. The open world game is very nice, graphics are very good, here and there a few bugs, but, i haven't seen a game that doesn't have such things, and let's be real, the game is massive, there are bound to be errors along the way.

Now the bad... a few bugs here and there, still frustrating, though, missing the crouch function while in battle ( the character crouches when near an object ), and crafting system is not what i've hoped for, also, once established the bases don't offer any upgrades, just side missions, or just completing the main goal....

Other than wanting to constantly shove Liam out an airlock and float the !%@#$, I really enjoyed the game. The game should easily have a Metascore of 90. People like to compare this to DA Inquisition, which had a Meta of 85 (PC) and that's fine, but it is even better than DA:I.

    - Story was tighter and in a way better than ME 3 and probably ME2 too. No lame giant Human Reaper made out of people, or stupid ME3 ending.
    - The motivations of the various factions was way more compelling than ME3
    - Great fast-paced multiplayer
    - good ending / lead-in for a sequel

An outstanding production that attempted to integrate the best practices and features of all of the previous Bioware titles. Are there problems? Sure. Would I have designed elements differently? Sure. Is it better than the previous Mass Effect tiles? Without doubt.

Improvements? Combat, planetary exploration and the ATV (Nomad), sheer scale of the game, and a good post victory

Notable? In contrast with what others have claimed, it has great storytelling and characters.
Problems? A little too much map reuse (DA2), a little too gamey (nonsensical jumping puzzles a la Donkey Kong), stability issues.
Things to consider? They changed the underlying engine ... a massive and necessary undertaking that critics should remember.

I also must say that anyone who rates this game below 5 is a pure troll and his/her score is not viable in any way. The developers put SO MUCH effort into creating this world/ all those characters etc, there is so much to do in this game , I can understand that someone may not like it, but this game offers so much that it's not possible to mark it below 5 unless you are totally unfair

However to be fair I must say there are several small bugs (like enemies disappearing after loading a save) and some of the actions are really repetitive or could be done much better, but I undestand that this would take probably twice as much development, but some of the potential is wasted for sure.

This game should be considered as a new and hotel game in the universe of Mass Effect. If you expected the same epic from this game as from the trilogy, then everything is tolerable here. The game gives respect to ME1, it is very noticeable. As the beginning of a new trilogy, it's not bad, but do not expect too much from the game to not be disappointed.

Honestly, if proof of purchase were required to post reviews, I'd bet my life(literally, my life) that the user score wouldn't be anywhere near as low.

Now to clear up some of the blatant lies and exaggerations. The animations and dialogue aren't anywhere near as bad as some people want you to believe. It's not perfect, but I've seen worse get a pass, and the issues that there are really aren't all that common. I've purposefully watched the lips every time there's dialogue to see how it matches up, it's pretty accurate most of the time. Some of the voice actors could be better, but seeing how many voice actors there are, getting top notch actors for all of them would have been way too costly, and gamers are too spoiled to pay more than $60 for a game regardless of the cost to make it. There aren't "thousands of bugs", plus, no game is free of bugs, not a single one. It's also not locked at 30 FPS like I've seen people say. The optimization isn't bad either, most people just don't have a clue how rendering works or why some games are more demanding than others. The Nvidia game ready driver actually increased performance quite a bit. And yes, you CAN create a custom character that is very light skinned, I guess some people just haven't figured out that you have to select a white preset first, THEN go to customize. Also, there is no "SJW propaganda", if you think there is, it's all in your head. Including multiple races and cultures isn't being "politically correct", it's being factually correct. Black people are real! I promise! So are women, so are Asians, so are girls that like to keep their hair short. The inclusion of diversity isn't pandering, it's realistic...unless of course you think only white people should go to space...though I do wish there were long haired options for the men too(because how else would I recreate one of the guys from Immortal?)

Closing statement: It's trendy to hate this game and exaggerate the flaws, people don't think for themselves anymore and just jump on bandwagons, it's sad, really. Some of these reviews are clearly from people who haven't even touched the game, and I've seen some that are just copy and pasted from another review for the sake of adding another bad score. Certain groups of people want this game to fail, so they are doing whatever they can to sabotage it. Which is unfortunate for the people who actually DO enjoy the game. You're not hurting Bioware, you're not hurting EA, you're hurting your fellow gamers. You're putting the idea that it's the worst game ever in people's heads who would actually enjoy it, guess who suffers for that? Those of us who enjoy it, and want the multiplayer the grow and be able to do the missions with other people instead of sending NPCs out on them. Good job. Funny thing is...you're doing the same exact thing the "SJWs" you claim to hate do when they're upset about something, hell, you're even using some of their own tactics.

Try playing with the approach that this is a total new game, a total new story. After travelliing over 600 hundred years, in the hope of a new paradise to colonise, everything goes wrong. You then take the command of the pathfinder, and must find a plan b to save the whole colony from certain death.

There it goes. It is now about exploration, scavenging and survival. Breath-taking graphics, gameplay and animations. YES, animations. At least in 2560x1600 resolution, ultra settings and constant 60 fps. 1080ti owner here. I don't blame the people who are getting glitches in every corner of the game, but don't expect fixes in the first two days if you are running this game on a **** pc/console/video card.

The dialogues are simple, yet precise and effective. The music perfectly fit in every situations, while the voice acting is pretty solid. A whole new set of characters, that if you take time to interact and know them intimately will start growing in you. Combat is flawless, nothing to say about it. and LOL about the critics about the jet-pack, this is a sci-fiction game, it add so much to it !

So if your all about endless exploration and side quests, scavenging new discoveries and gorgeous places, get this game. You are the enemy in this new galaxy, even if you came in peace. Only the stronger will survive.

O and even for those who are actually waiting to buy this game in sale, I would advise not to. Donald trump will soon start a third world war and there will be no one left to play this jewel. Just my two cents.

    - The game has extremely fun combat and exploration is done really well.
    - As far as the animations go They are about as good as I would expect from a Mass Effect game, as none of the games have been cutting edge in the animation or graphics department.
    - The story is good so far though I'm only eight hours in at the time of writing, and I haven't experienced any sjw politics that a lot of people are complaining about in those eight hours so suffice to say that they aren't prevalent in the game.
    - The leveling is about the same as ME3 but with ever skill tree open to you

All in all the game isn't on the same level as the original trilogy, but rarely are these type of games. It seems to suffer from typical day 1 issues combined with BioWare's meh faces, and if you're looking for the shiniest most polished game then this is not the game for you. If you looking for a return to old school ME then this probably isn't for you. But, if you're looking for a fun game that you can explore and enjoy then this is a game worth getting.

Come on, all the issues that were mentioned can be easily fixed in an update. Don't kill the game before it is officially released.

This game, while it has its flaws at launch (animation), is amazing. Honestly, following in ME1-3's shoes is an overly difficult task, but Bioware succeeded in delivering a f***ing beautiful game with a great story line and a semi-open world environment in which you can do things that you only could have dreamed of in ME1-3.

Worlds are awesome but I must say, the bits showed in the trial are not the best representation of them (you are VERY limited there, so if that's your worry I can tell you the trial doesn't do it justice).
For some reason most of the problems with animations and facial expressions are condensed in the first 10-15 hrs of the game, then they become a rarity.

    Graphic is top notch.

Can't fully judge the story yet, but 34 hours in I would give it a 7.5.

Multiplayer is good fun, spent a ton of time on the mass effect 3 multi and this is very similar so I imagine I'll play this a lot too.

First off I'll start by saying I was a huge fan of the original Mass Effect series. But coming into this game I recommend you don't expect more of the same or you might be disappointed.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a new start for the series and in my opinion its a great start at that despite some bugs which I'm sure Bioware will patch soon.

In typical Bioware fashion the characters are what makes this game great. Despite the at times wonky facial animations the characters are very well done. Conversations and interactions are deep and engrossing. My first talk with Suvi was particularly impressive. Bioware once again has outdone themselves with character development. And despite overwhelming disappointment in the graphics by many reviewers I find the game beautiful in 1080 and 4K.

Exploration is expanded greatly. The planets are huge and have much to do. Quests vary from mundane to exciting. The sheer size of the maps can be overwhelming at first but over time became much more manageable. The advancement of colonies is particularly interesting and your control over their direction adds a level of involvement unseen in previous ME games.

Combat really shines. Tight and intense firefights left me wanting more as combat can be scarce at times but overall very satisfying.

The inventory system takes some getting used to but its not a major problem.

Overall Mass Effect Andromeda is a step in the right direction after the completion of Shepards storyline. The story is epic and engrossing. Minor graphical issues aside the game is beautiful and the worlds deep and meticulously developed. Gameplay itself is a major upgrade over previous installments and really shines.

In closing don't feed into all the negativity. If you are a fan of scifi amd Mass Effect I strongly suggest trying the game and making your own decision. Many of the criticisms of the game are picky and overblown in my opinion. Mass Effect Andromeda wpuld receive a perfect score from me if it wasnt for some bugs that crop up from time to time. But overall a great game and well worth the 60 bucks. Another great job by Bioware.

Currently I have not finished the game and am nowhere close and that is because I have already become so immersed in the world of Andromeda that I have literally done almost every single side quest i have run across. This game meets every single criteria you would expect from a Mass Effect game, great characters, compelling story and political turmoil, challenging decisions and in addition to that an amazing combat system. While the game does have its flaws and could have used some polish the animations are way overblown. Yes, sometimes they might be super distracting but I find that very rare. the one other thing I want to point out is that if you enjoyed Renegade in the original trilogy you, unfortunately, will be very disappointed. Your character while still molded around how you want to be cannot be the a**hole you made Shepard. Besides that i think Andromeda succeed as not only a being a good video game but a good Mass Effect game and if you are a fan of the series I highly recommend picking up a copy. Also for those of you saying the quests are boring, yes the actual side content might be boring, it is masked behind a compelling backstory, each and everyone, that makes each worth while and for those of you saying the writing is bad it is in noway worse than the original trilogy. My one other gripe with it is some iffy voice acting but considering there are over 1200 voiced characters, a few being iffy is okay and does not warrant a 4.2 score... not even close. Expand

So far I've had one bug where the game once stopped loading which is pretty well (compared to Fallout 4 for instance).

All in all, despite the over publicized flaws, this game provides the basis for what I believe will be a far more compelling series than the Shepard trilogy. Expand

Game is very big, and with big i mean BIG, lots of things to do, not ony missions like go here and look around for something, but very good developed missions like a gathering your crew to see a movie that tastes like a mini citadel dlc. Playing the whole game i'm certain people only played like 2 or 3 hours and decide they can do a review, i have 48 hours in the game and still is only 73% completed, if you have patience and let the game advance i'm sure it won't let you down. For me this game is an 8.5 - 9, hell i even enjoyed more andromeda than ME1, also, when people compare this game they always seem to forget that this is a new journey, you can't compare this to ME3, you have to do with ME1, you have to let the game develop itself through the hours, if you wait, i'm sure you will enjoy it as much as i do.

I feel very bad for people who give this game a 0, because no game deserves that note (Except No Man's Sky). Please, be realistic with your reviews, some people who might enjoy the game won't buy it believing all the hate you just wrote is truth, and it isn't.

If you liked the Mass Effect OT, i'm sure you will like the game except you are already brainwashed and believe all the crap that people is writing about it, in that case i won't struggle for yo to buy it, otherwise, you should buy it and enjoy it. Cheers

    Lore is extensive and helpful
Characters are well made and relatable in many cases.
Different worlds to explore make you feel like you are in an alien planet.
    Story is inspiring.
Kind of miss the paragon/renegade system but the intent based dialogue is not bad either.
    Looks gorgeous.
    In depth crafting.
    Good multiplayer.
Amazing Ending got me sneaking out a tear.

There are several things that are not good, the devs shouldn't have changed the engine they were used to using, and animation in some things need a serious look over.

Its a game that had me entranced and dedicated, i can recommend it in good faith, and as long as you ignore the fact that Commander Shepard is only talked about, and its not a story with the characters you already know, you'll enjoy it a lot

I think it gets a lot of hate for being a mass effect game. People say the trilogy had really good characters. Those characters were developed over 3 games and were kinda boring in ME1. I have been trying to look at it more like a stand alone game. The story was compelling and was good at what it intended. It wasn't trying to be the trilogy, it was going for a different feel and I think it succeeded. As for the technicial issues there are more than I like but I think people forget Skyrim, and Fallout 4 for example. Those games had horrible (if somewhat funny at times) and often quest-breaking or game--breaking glitches and somehow those are OK (or at least accepted) and this isn't. Glitches can be fixed, and nothing I experienced was game-breaking and very few required a reload or reboot. Take off your rose colored glasses and look at the game for what I is by itself and not what you wanted it to be. Its a good game that I will play again and again and look forward to what they do next (not backward to what they have already done). Expand

Yes, it borrows some idea's from our beloved science fiction classics. But who cares? It is a game, not a novel. Our chance to interact with those amazing worlds and people, we fantasize about. That is what made me fall in love with this series. A series that was developed as an RPG game with action elements. But, very important, an RPG game. And that is what Andromeda gave us. A spiritual successor to Mass Effect 1 and i daresay Kotor. I loved Mass Effect 2, but i disliked the amount of rpg elements they took out. But they gave us narrative and character building rarely seen in games.

Then came 3... And nobody was happy. They removed the soul of this series. Catering to the action gamers with an attention span, that forces them to buy cod games every year. It was linear, worldbuilding was non-existent. It didn't provide the experience i like to escape into. Trying to appeal to a public that does not really care about the game.

I have to say, i am pretty disgusted by the reviews i read about Andromeda. People act like it's murderous poison, that someone tried to force them to swallow. Andromeda has obvious problems. But you have to appreciate the love this dev team poured into this. From the unforgiving colds of voeld, to the sad state of the nexus. They tried to merge the best parts of mass effect 1 with the best parts of mass effect 2 and 3. And if you look a bit closer and experience this game. Looking beyond the subpar animations and the obvious feminist and diversity elements forced into it. It is actually a fantastic experience, loads better then 3. I feel like i am in a scifi novel again. Living on the wayfarer or firefly. Observing the shrike or trying to survive a planet like arrakis. Looking beyond it's fairly ugly shell, there is a fantastic experience waiting to surprise you. It would be a mistake to miss it.

The story is captivating, with a lot of things to explore, great plot twists, and a lot of funny reference to the original trilogy. If you don't look at the details or focus too much on some unexplained details, I see how you can dislike the game and start assuming plot holes. However, this is just an intro into a new universe, so obviously there won't be time to explain everything. After all, I got 60hours of gameplay out of the story, and I even skipped quite a few side quests. It also lacks some polishing, but I didn't encounter any game-breaking bugs. Overall though it's a very solid experience for Mass Effect and Sci-FI fans as a whole. Expand

Graphically wonderful, there are a few bugs yes but non game breaking. The bugs will be patched, and even if they aren't still a 9 out of 10. The story is captivating and engaging while not becoming boring or monotonous to me. The only reason it isn't a 10 out of 10 is for the overall quality is a little lower than to be expected on some of the minor animations. Overall well worth the money

The "specialized" criticism has greatly attacked this game unfairly. That it is "the worst RPG of BioWare" is an exaggeration. It may not be the best of the developer, but it's not bad at all. The topic of facial animations is one of the big hits I see. However, this is only in generic conversations, those that are "important" - and in this every fan of Mass Effect / BioWare will understand me - have facial expressions more than acceptable.

A good game that have been given a lot of s*** above, both haters and media. This is why there is so much "fear" to put a hand on it. However, you will see that it did not stink as much as they want to convince you.

    Best:
    - Combat, fluid and dynamic
    - Exploration
    - Graphics, best in the saga
    - Charachters and their backgrounds and stories, as in all BioWare game

    Worst:
    - Charachter creation, really limited
    - Introduction somewhat abrupt, although the game gains much as one advances
    - Peer to peer multiplayer, this should end in games nowadays
    - Facial and gestural animations almost non-existent in generic conversations

I'm another person in the camp where I have to say I don't really understand the level of negativity directed towards this game in terms or writing and content, most of it seeming to be from comparisons to the OT. Again it's important to remember, it's not the same Mass Effect we remember, it's a new galaxy, a new start for a new protagonist.

The writing is quick and sarcastic and in general more lighthearted. I feel as though many of the complaints originate from people assuming the MEA is meant to be serious and dramatic with pockets of comedic relief like the OT and thus chastise the writing as "cringy" or "adolescent". Rather, I find it quite clever at times in the delivery (especially with the excellent VA). In the original trilogy, some of the things said would have made me cringe just because the atmosphere of the game was so much more demanding, but here, because of the lighter setting, it fits right in place and makes me smile instead. Replaying the original, Shepard's voice and speech quite monotone in comparison and felt out of place when humor was attempted.

In a similar vein, I see people often dismiss the new crew as inferior to the ones of the OT. To be honest, I don't see how the comparison is apt at all. MEA is just an introduction to the Andromeda galaxy. We lack that familiar bond that grew over 3 games in the original Mass Effect, where when we first met the characters, they were essentially walking codex entries. The bond grew over time. The new crew starts out reticent to say much and open up over time as you earn their trust and get to know them. Most of the loyalty missions in Andromeda for me were either incredibly touching or great fun to go through.

Another common complaint is with lack of good side quests, and I think the heart of the issue lies with the fact that you don't really have to do them. They are there for fluff, meant for completionists (although the memory hunting quest is quite worth the effort). If you think back to the OT, there weren't really any sidequests that mattered at all for the story in a meaningful way, most also being simple fetch or talk quests, but there only being a few of them so it wasn't noticeable. Yes there are more of them now, but again, if you just want the big, non-fluff missions, go do the big non-fluff missions, you can play it as a linear game if you want. The sidequests are out there for world building, another way to gain info on and round out the new world you're exploring, cause after all, the main theme in this game is exploration. Some of the more thought out sidequests are quite interesting even.

This isn't to say that the game doesn't have it's issues. I've been fortunate enough to not have any game-breaking bugs, and the animation to me honestly doesn't seem nearly as bad as what many made it out to be (some are actually really quite good), though could definitely be polished, and at times it is quite apparent that the animators lacked the time or resource to sufficiently go through and polish each. There are also some design choices that are sometimes annoying like the UI design or map transitions, but nothing pertaining to the actual story that has had any issue with me. Also the major quests do feel shorter overall, and I feel this contributes to some of the bad writing complaints as the writing is in more concentrated pellets rather than a smaller ongoing story like before. If the Andromeda team set their sights a bit smaller and focused more on developing that core, I feel the game would have been much better received.

In the end I had a great time and felt like I was playing a shiny, new and improved ME1 with lessons learned from ME2 and 3. To dissenters, I wholeheartedly disagree with your ratings, but to each their own I guess. I see what the studios tried to do and I like most of what they have done. Back in school, one of the things I hated most was when I would be marked off for doing problems mostly correct or with the correct reasoning then lose all the points, knowing full well I have the ability to do the problem, just having missed the mark with most of the work there. That's what I feel is happening here to bioware. I can only hope that they take the lessons they learned from this release to craft even better RPGs in the future that satisfies more people. I'm just gonna judge the game by how much I enjoyed it: immensely.

TLDR: Loved it. It was a new and lighthearted reentry into the Mass Effect Universe that brought back some of the magic for me. Whether you like it probably depends on your own attitude going in. I just hope these bad reviews don't ruin the chance for a sequel

The story, voice acting, characters, graphics, gameplay, writing and scope are all superb.

The only cons I have to voice are small compared to the good. There has been a massive stink, dare I say, "uprising" against Bioware and EA about facial animations and performance not being up to par. As far as the facial animations, I have to ask these people who are so upset - When have facial animations ever really been perfect in ANY game let alone in Bioware titles? I see some small weirdness in SOME of the facial animations and it doesn't really bug me that much. It doesn't affect my immersion or enjoyment of the game whatsoever.

As far as performance, I have not had ANY major issues whatsoever. I've played this game since the minute the early access Origin trial was released - No major bugs or FPS drops at all. To be fair I do have a high end PC, but then again the graphical settings are all on ultra and the resolution is down sampled heavily. The only bugs I have experienced are frankly funny ones that are no worse than anything I've experienced in games of this scope like The Witcher 3 or any Fallout/Skyrim game. Everything is BEYOND within reason, and Bioware is still going out of their way to address rampant criticism in both of these departments.

Also, yes there are quite a bit of Witcher 3 style side quests that can become a bit monotonous - but guess what, you don't have to do those if you don't want to! I know I sure as hell didn't do most of that type of quest in The Witcher 3 itself, the game itself that gets it's ass kissed as the best game as all time by many(which before you discredit my opinion by implications in that statement know that I have 165 hours into the game myself). If you want more of a traditional Mass Effect experience that you've grown to know and love in the trilogy, stick to everything else - loyalty missions, the great main campaign, or enjoying the dialogue and writing in a multitude of forms. Thats what I do, which is what most of the game is. Don't just blindly follow the hunt and fetch side quests if they bore you.

Overall, the main meat of the game is way worth your time. There are so many good things I have to say about this game. There have been so many moments of camaraderie that I've enjoyed between Ryder and crew mates that made me nostalgically think back of Shepard and his/her crew, although Ryder and his/her crew mates are entirely their own characters. That is an achievement in and of itself. The story is also great, the plot of going to a new galaxy to discover a new home for humanity with new aliens both good and bad, as well as new struggles makes for a profound story for me personally. Another noteworthy element is the combat and the vast array of weapons to choose from. Its so silky smooth that this could pass as just a pure action game under a different title. In addition, you have so much choice in your loadout and skills. The RPG element of this game ties in very nicely to that. Multiplayer is also a nice icing on the cake. It is extremely addictive, intense, rewarding, and FUN.

I truly don't understand the degree of hate and the volume of whiny people centered around this game. It has me baffled and really disappointed because Bioware has made a great game here. In fact, I'm going to go continue playing it now!

Mass Effect Andromeda is an ambitious game with a wonderful core and expansive universe with a ton of lore and back story to draw from. At first I was somewhat lost at seeing the Sheppard story being left behind along with the Reapers and most things that we had grown accustomed to in the previous Trilogy. After the first few hours I began to see the new story unfold and the characters develop. Some characters that I did not care for in the beginning ended up being some of my favorite characters by the end. Bioware has delivered on thier epic story telling. With decent voice acting (all though silly at times) you begin to feel a sense of connection with every character. Before I go into anymore detail here is a list of pros and cons.

    Pros
    - Great Gameplay. Combat is a blast.
    - Epic Bioware story telling.
    - Strong new Protagonists that is quite a good sense of humor.
    - So much to do! Finished the game at 85 hours and still had a lot more to do.

    Cons
    - some bugged missions. 5 on my playthrough uncompletable
    - yes some of the character animations are bad but only on a few faces. Addison being the worst of them.
    - no real introduction to crafting. One of the crafting types i was hard pressed to max it out. Maybe it is this way by design?
    - few times characters would talk to me about story line stuff that happened hours before, yet they treated it like it was 5 minutes ago.
    - I did not really feel the need to utilize the class change system in any way shape or form.
    - No skip option on when you travel from planet to planet. It some cases u gotta sit through the ship flying for up to 30 seconds.....

Regardless of the cons I loved this game and would recommend it to any fan of the series. This is a game that needs to played through before forming an opinion of how good it is or not. It is not a perfect game but it definitely is a good game.

The enemy AI is particularly good, enemies will rush in while their team mates flank you, throw in a couple destroyers and a fiend or two and you will quickly start worrying when the last time you saved was, This game isn't perfect but if you give it a chance, if you can let go of the trilogy, you will find something really amazing on your journeys through Andromeda...... Also multiplayer is freaking fun as hell. Expand

Alright I played the game for a while, then I decided to go to metacritic to read the reviews. Which I never do because it reminds me how unfathomably stupid and trite people are. The only critiques that have any merit are a few graphical bugs that yeah, should have been taken care of pre launch. But they're minor annoyances at worst. People act like they break the entire game because itAlright I played the game for a while, then I decided to go to metacritic to read the reviews. Which I never do because it reminds me how unfathomably stupid and trite people are. The only critiques that have any merit are a few graphical bugs that yeah, should have been taken care of pre launch. But they're minor annoyances at worst. People act like they break the entire game because it sometimes doesn't zoom in the camera to the right spot when you talk to someone.

Then they're complaining that the npc models suck and the dialog is bad which... it just objectively isn't. Especially compared to 1-3. It's using frostbyte engine, sure, but they expect it to look like bf1 even though the environments are way larger.

This guy confused me the most though when he said:

"This installment moves ME more in the direction of a shooter with some RPG elements in it vs an RPG with some action elements in it, that's the big difference, shock for some, and welcome to others"

What? There's *literally* exponentially more character building and development options since not only did they take the class skills from the other games and make it an open character system with ability to switch between skill combinations, but each class has 3x the skills in it.

Dont believe all the self important critics with overinflated expectations and even further inflated egos. If you like scifi and love the mess effect universe that has been expanded further and further upon since ME1 came out, this game will not dissapoint. Maybe wait for it to go on sale or for the graphics bugs to be patched if youre particularly concerned. But this game is by no means a "1".

Played the game now for +25 hours including multiplayer.
    Single player:
The storyline is good to very well. Whereas the missions in Me2/3 were mainly scripted, you now have huge exploration and freedom. This gives you the feeling of loneliness and doubt whenever you chose to alter the timeline of mission solving. Even the upgrades on vehicle and other items influence the environment.

The visual quality is very good.
Combat and movement is far better than the original series.
On the other hand, my experience as a games tester has led me to quite a few areas where you make the game glitch But the more you let players wander around and give the freedom, the more the game is prone to such glitches. So nothing really game breaking.
The only minor point for me in the single player is the quality of facial expression or better the lack of. For me it does push you away from the storyline sometimes.
The problems with limbs etc colliding does occasionally happen. But in that respect not more/less than any other game. You are bound to start finding a lot of them if you are actually searching for flaws. But that happens with all games.
The scanning, crafting, selling, developing, gives the game more depth and gives you as the player the feeling that you have the choice to make you character unique.

Overall the single player is very good!

    Multiplayer:
Action packed, and pretty difficult. I have +400 hours on the multiplayer of ME3. But Im still getting used to this one. It does feel a little more tight than the original one. I don't quite now how to put it. It is great fun, but still have to explore it. So for now a 7.5/10 on the MP.

I've played all earlier ME's, many times thru!! So I did not expect anything mind blowing...
I walked tro store 23. March (Europe). Bought the game (60€), and I have no regrets!
I expected Mass Effect and I got Mass Effect, nothing more, nothing less!! If you don't mind some stupid looking animations and some bugs. (Patches coming) This is absolutely brilliant, story scripted

This is absolutely brilliant, story scripted sandbox, like earlier ME:s.
The game is Mass Effect!I I really can't understand what people whine, You bought Mass Effect, what did you expect to get,

    Edit Ad:
I read Immoralunicorn's review below, I agree with him 95%.
The start of the game is Booring... Similiar Tutorial mission than in all previous effects!!
    Then the game star.t..
I really start thinking,, how many hours people have spent time with this game?? Before they give their review?

    Again I must say:
The game is Mass Effect!I You bought Mass Effect, what did you expect to get,

This game is not really perfect, though the main story line will remind u about the trilogy. U absolutely must try this game and not abandon it after a few hours, 90 per cent u will say thanks to me.

Brilliant game - a few flaws but can be over looked whilst being submerged into the gorgeous world - this is coming from a female gamer. Haven't played the original trilogy but even if I did this would be completely different as stands alone game into a new universe with different concepts and should not be compared to the original.

Mass Effect Andromeda has the best comabat in a rpg i have seen. While the story is not as strong as in othher ME games, but its still pretty great. Now graphics are amazing for the most things except for the terible animation, but they are now better because of an update.

Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.

Enough of the classic Mass Effect, with enough new mechanics to keep the game fresh. [Hollingworth; Issue#261, p.55]

An earnest attempt has been made to create a new identity for a series here, but the question of how to best frame Mass Effect's narrative strengths is, once again, left open. [June 2017, p.90]
