This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have to say that I understand the negative reviews as the game has more than several bugs especially the desert map which is really bugged and force you to reload your saves for about 60% of the missions because an NPC will be underground or something else. But apart from that, this game is fabulous, I love it! The story could be better but the exploration and the fights are pretty good. If you try to finish a planet as much as possible and don't swap too often between planets (which is a real pain) then this is an excellent game is maybe not the best PC Game of 2017 but would definitely be in the top 10. However, once the first couple of hours are completed, the game opens up into a true open world(s) game that is utterly incredible. The story lines are compelling, the characters are very likable and relatable, and the dialogue is very realistic. Conversations don't fit the typical rigid and over exaggerated format common to many games, which may not work for gamers who are more accustomed to interacting with video game NPCs than having conversations with people in the real world. After 60 hours of gameplay, Mass Effect: Andromeda has impressed me more than I had ever expected and has become one of my favorite titles. I enjoyed this game even more than the original series. The story isn't quite as interesting as the reaper concept, but the rich open world exploration teeming with fun missions to do combined with the amazing lore the Mass Effect series has built up made this one of the funnest games I have ever played. Neither me nor my wife has experienced any glitches or strange/ugly facial animations with our Ryders. It took me a couple tries to design one that I liked, but once I did I had no issues throughout my play through. It seems that a lot of the people giving Mass Effect: Andromeda negative feedback are going into the game expecting to find something bad, only instead of reviewing it objectively, they critically search for flaws to reaffirm their expectations. This type of behavior, along with people rating it who have never even played it has left a game easily worthy of a 10/10 with a user score of 4.6. Expand

This game is just that good.

Too much politics I dont care if they use a racist as a game developer, and I dont really know if its true or not, but peoples opinions towards persons should be deleted because its not an honest grading of the game, but just politics and hatred towards 1 person.

Truth is this game is probably gonna be among the best games released this year.

Over 80 hours put into this, not to mention a 2nd and 3rd character created already. I literally have Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3, also collector's editions of each, and a version of each on origins as well. Would bet over 1000s of hours of my life have been spilled into this game. With that said, let's move onto the actual game.

With that said, let's move onto the actual game.

    Downsides first;

Minor glitches, technical issues, and whatever else that happened that shouldn't have in the game don't bog things down as much as people act like, or at least in my experience.

The story was a little downwards as well in this game, but from what I remember Mass Effect 2 struggled to really have a plot, and Mass Effect could be finished in maybe 3 hours and they were both fantastic games. I wouldn't rank this game much lower, plus this is the foundation, or groundwork for the next possible trilogy, I'm sure it wasn't meant to blow you away, it was meant to get a foothold in another galaxy, and I thought it was done very well.

Some of the conversations seemed much more forced than before, when there's not really character development conversation to be had, then.. there isn't. Don't force it, just to get more content in.

I'm not usually one to complain about it, but if we could get more time for romance's instead of just a scene here, there, and the lovely before the end finish, that'd be great.

The crafting was a little everywhere, I couldn't get into that part at all.

The lack of polish was there.. A little too obvious for me. I would've liked the story/dialogue to have more 2 choices where you basically say the same spiel.

That's literally all the bad I can muster from my thoughts of this game.

    The Upside:

    Just about everything.

Music was pretty great, as always.

Characters were great, every mission with them I loved it. The jokes were plenty also, and sometimes seem like stale or Dad-jokes but that added to the humor. If people want to look back on Mass Effect 1-2-3 as great for characters, Garrus had almost nothing to say the whole first game. Second game he has a gripe and finish it, he says nothing again. 3rd was my least played Mass Effect, so I don't even remember.

The combat was spectacular. I didn't understand what was going on at first, and seemed peeved that my control over squad mate abilities was taken off, but then noticed, they are centralized around you, the player. It's almost impossible not to get a thousand combos off in this game, and the combos themselves are astoundingly awesome, biotic combos, tech combos, the elemental combos, everything was phenomenal with combat. Easily the superior bright spot in the game.

You can tell there was a lot more emphasis on being a space-traveler and everything with the pathfinding expedition. I thought it was also pretty great, only slight recommendation would've been that instead of the Nomad mining, we could've mined like in Mass Effect 2 on the planets again.

The new species were on display in this game, and of course, I loved it. Even the enemies were interesting to me, although hard not to notice it was mostly species being " Reaperfied " again, but worked for me, loved it.

The world looked more beautiful than the characters, but characters didn't look crazy bad either, not even half-bad. Besides since when does everyone have to look crazy awesome all the time? I'm pretty sure I don't, and even in a fantasy space-drama game like Mass Effect, it shines through, like it should.

Loved the romances, even if they failed to be more than a few scenes in the game, they seemed more.. Intimate.

The voice-acting was so-so but still great to me, some comparison's to the other Mass Effect games and it still shines better. I heard on youtube reviews about some Krogan's not sounding like they should.. but hey.. It's their game and they create the image they want to invoke so.. Didn't sound too bad to me, or I wouldn't have played. Plus if every krogan sounds the same, how would you differentiate them? The one criticized is also female, how many female krogans have we seen?.. Oh, the one from Mass Effect 3.. Didn't sound that much different.

Side quests were pretty good, could've been done better, but still good. Especially compared to other Mass Effect games. Bring Down The Sky, Lair of The Shadow Broker are the only comparisons I could think that'd be better, really.

Yes, it feels like it's a rushed game, like released to early or like you're playing an early beta but ME fans like me are thankful to Bioware for continuing the saga.

All and all the game together with its flaws is not bad, it's GREAT actually. It's not like the flaws are preventing you from enjoying this great game. It's just that people are comparing it to The Wicher 3 which is perfect and ahead of any other game in any category. Yet, I lost interest in mid game in The Witcher 3. I didn't care enough for the story or the quests to continue it. Maybe because as I said earlier in the beginning I'm tired of medieval, sword fighting look-alike games anymore.

But, there's another reason I rated it higher then maybe it deserves. It's the first ME game that's open almost as other open-world games and it's a Sci-Fi and has 100+ hours of gameplay.

Inventory and equipment organization could be better. Maps can be better and a minimap could be very useful! Some minor changes would be welcomed like the 'M' keystroke to be able to close the map and not pressing ESC twice. And of course the character animations are outdated. But as I said, I love the game, I pre-purchased it and didn't regret it.

If Bioware kept putting the same game out over and over again they would get criticized for that. Remember how everyone hated the streamlined RPG elements in mass efffect 2? Now they hate the complexity of the crafting. For the first time in Mass Effect I get the feeling of exploration and in depth crafting. The visuals are beautiful. The combat is enjoyable and the variety of armor, mods, and weapons is awesome. I have not finished the game but so far the story is good. I think with time people will give this game a chance and recognize how good it is. I only hope the criticism doesn't make Bioware simplify and dumb down the next one. There are some visual bugs but so far they have been no worse than the other games in the series. Expand

It is about the new settlement in an alien galaxy: Andromeda. In this there are various strange planets to discover and after all to really settle. So survivalable stations are to be built. Numerous difficulties are to be overcome in teamwork. Dramatically threatening dark forces (eg the species of Ketts) the settlers - a tough competition for life resources. Often it is necessary to care for the lives of the peaceful settlers and to defend them. So it is a mixture of tactically challenging adventure and rapid action - not a simply shooting game, but a training forming experience and the hanger of settlers: because rules must be respected, foresight and tolerance are well-maintained values. Thats why it is more than a game with entertainment value. The characters pursue an intelligent mission: the roleplayer as Sara Ryder gets a sense of the responsibility for the many expectant people who are together with her in search of a better world. Andromeda means hope for each of them. This transports the game perfectly. It becomes a very empathetic experience. The elaborate graphics and enjoyable sounds support this. Everything is coherent and Andromeda awakens through the game more and more to life. The gaming scope is gigantic, but to overlook, because there are also clear maps and enlightening log books and so on. Many well-founded and subtle animations make the story an impressive experience. In the end there is nothing less than the survival or the end of humanity - the fate in a new world, Andromeda.

    Update:
If not superficial/trivial reflection is operated, Mass Effect Andromedea will be the game of the year 2017!
The balanced blend of worlds-simulation, scifi-fantasy, adventure, action, culture, fun, seriousness and humanity's fate makes this gigantic HighEnd-Video&Sound next Generation game unique. In substance, multidimensionality & diversity there is actually nothing comparable. Finally the saturated coolness-arrogance-animated characters are overcome and out. The rogues coolness taste is stripped, lovable explorers & trustworthy ambassadors are born. The gamedeveloper team has the courage to unfeigned honest cosmopolitanfigures as peaceful worldconquerors, which is currently most important. The excellent synchronization in so many languages corresponds with this. From all this is MEA a considerable cultural masterpiece in next-gen-Gaming.

Pros- Combat is one of the best features in the game. Fights are fun and the mechanics seem balanced. The sound effects are well done and go a long way to help those with no force feedback to “feel” the weapons and attacks. Most abilities I’ve played with are useful and not “trash” skills.

Planetary exploration is well done and engaging. I found myself just wanting to drive around and see the different places without any particular goal in mind.

The game is a bit slow at first but after a few hours in, it will take off in a cool way. It was at this moment for me, that game went from moderately fun to “Hell yeah! This just got real!” This feeling of real satisfaction from the game hits again at certain points throughout the journey.

The companions are good and interesting enough to pursue their stories and invest in a relationship with them, platonic or otherwise. It can be interesting and at times amusing (and even insulting in one situation) to just listen to their back seat conversations while driving around in the Nomad. Word of caution: these conversations will be cut off if you approach a POI or other mission area so if a particularly interesting conversation is occurring, stop the Nomad and wait till they finish.

The graphics are beautiful; especially in space. Performance is good and the game runs surprisingly well on my older GTX 970 at 1080 on ultra settings though I did experience some stutter in places so I adjusted my settings to high for a smoother run.

Cons- Though the graphics are great, there are many areas where the lighting is too intense causing an unrealistic blinding and/or washed-out effect.

It can be difficult at times to get the "Talk" indicator to appear on NPCs. You have to be positioned at a weird angle to get it to appear and if the NPC is standing next to objects such as a desk or other NPCs, or walking across the room, this can be a PITA.

And of course there are the character model, texture and animation issues. This was improved somewhat in the first patch but it’s still not up to par for a 2017 AAA game from a top developer. It's more or less as bad as everyone is saying but still, not a deal breaker.

It is irritating that you can't board the Tempest without taking off. There were numerous times that I wanted to board my ship to temporarily access email or the research station and then get right get back out there. As soon as you board however, the game goes to the takeoff cut scene, launches you into space and then forces you to go through the landing cut scene and the load out screen again to get back to the planet surface. WTF?

Space exploration is both beautiful and relaxing and at the same time rather dull. You can fly around looking at the beautiful nebulae and stars and casually visit planets to scope out their environments. This works well if you want to just chill for a while after an intense battle and listen to Suvi’s sexy voice.

In game-play terms however, it's absurd that I can gather nearly the same amount of minerals by hand while walking around on a planet as my probe can gather from space even though Suvi says we just found a "huge" mineral deposit. I get that the game is not mainly about being in space like Elite or Star Citizen but the anomalies that you can investigate are largely underwhelming.

There are definitely some bugs still in need of squashing, even after the first patch. One of the worst that I encountered was on occasion, I lost control of Ryder even though the rest of the game still kept processing. When this happened, I had to kill the game in Task Manager. At least once it occurred in the middle of combat. (No, this was not due to accidentally opening the console which I also did several times). Another very frustrating issue was that my biotic charge would occasionally not work saying I have no target even though the enemy was right in front of me with an unobstructed path and the ability ready to use (off cool down).

Conclusion- In spite of the issues, the game really is fun and not even close to as bad as the haters are saying. The professional reviews are more in-line with what the game deserves in its current state. I am giving it a 10 to counter the haters.

If you can look past the game's issues and really immerse yourself in Ryder's shoes, you'll experience a grand, thought provoking and fun adventure. If you have an imagination and a role-playing mindset, the game's sense of wonder and mystery works. More than once I pondered what it would feel like to be such a staggering distance away from the Earth in an alien place where I myself am the alien. In those moments, the game delivers on its promise!

I hope the next installment of the Andromeda series is going to fix a lot of the Physics bugs in this game, and maybe use som of the physics from ME 2 and 3. The dialogue is sometimes a little Bleh, but when it comes to the story and the choices it is very much a Mass Effect game, with a great story as we have come to expect from BioWare, i would not hesitate to pre-order another BioWare game, and if they could get free from the cold clamps of EA, i know they would become one of the best game-studios in all time.
Comparing to all the bugs all the Internet mentions, yes there are bugs, there are story holes and there are misstakes in the explanation of why the technology can do stuff they didn't could before. Let's face it, 600 years of Cryostasis doesn't really advance the technology 600 years. The ability to travel between systems by nothing but the ships drive and not use the Mass Relays can be explained by that the part of Andromeda explored is actually only one cluster (in which the original games is the entire galaxy) A cluster with a black hole in the center, explaining the circularly formation of the cluster. I would bet in the next installment of ME Andromeda we would go visit another cluster and to travel to those, we would need som kind of Mass Relay. And at some point af Relay would be build in both Andromeda and Milky Way to get a fast transport between the two galaxies. Enough of my theories, the game is a great ME game, biotics, gunslinging, killing aliens and befriending af new alien race, and still the opportunity to be romanced by a blue-skinned sexy Asari ;-) I would recommend this game for anyone liking a good story, I would not recommend it for people wanting graphics and physics perfection, but if you like a little bit of both, the game is worth it. Maybe wait for it to go on sale before throwing cash at it. It is still a Mass Effect game.

Now for the long version. On the release date, this game wasn't really ready. EA, had already delayed the release, but probably felt it needed to push the product out the door. After the first patch things improved a lot and most of the original comments on grind and terrible graphics are no longer relevant. This game is huge. In the sense that it offers a really big galaxy for you to explore. At the start that feels like a problem and before that first patch you spent far too much time looking at nice looking animation effects that you couldn't skip. This is no longer a problem. As you progress through the story there's definitely enough to keep us old fans of Mass Effect interested and there are lots of side quests if you want. At the same time this is clearly a restart with a new story and this seems to have irritated some Mass Effect players who had other ideas about how to progress the storyline. For me it all makes perfect sense and the 100+ hours I've spent in Andromeda has never felt like a grind and I'm really looking forward to more amazing stuff. A great Scifi story that's getting better.

It is no accident that all but one of these center around Bioware. My complaint about any of the above games was that they werent long enough. Mass Effect Andomeda however is a MASSIVE game heavy laden with hours of script and side quests galore. enabling you to level along with your companions and be rewarded for taking your time and going the extra mile to search around. When i preordered and subsequently played Dragon Age: Inquisition I was frustrated by the lack of immersion into the world at large. The central story was wonderfully done even if it was a bit short, but it didnt make you feel like you were part of the world at large. Andromeda forces you to be a part, to be a citizen, to not only survive but to ensure your people and new allies survive. The depth here is outstanding and while I know there are bugs and complaints about animations but show me a game that doesnt. This game doesn't really deserve a 10, but it didn't deserve all those 0 and 1 too, so I feel like I should balance them somehow: the real score would be a 6.

    Single player:
The gameplay is fluid and fun, even if sometimes laggy (but hey, looks like my friends didn't get half the bug that I got, so maybe I pushed my PS too far). I HATE open worlds, so I didn't like that aspect, but exploring was funnier than in Dragon Age: Inquisition. I didn't like the random side quests (quests where you have to find a notepad, a corpse, etc., spawned at a random place on the map- Remnant's sites, Roakar sites, etc-.), they're even more boring if you play them after-ending; I probably should've played 'em during the main and the other side quests. The majority of the cutscenes is definitely unpolished and rough, but the important ones are **sometimes** amazing. Some planets are gorgeous, while other are kinda boring- but nothing like those horrible maps in Dragon Age II: you can see that Bioware didn't get enough time to work on this (just read the whole story on Kotaku). Sometimes while talking with NPC they wait too much before going to the next sentence, but I've seen some videos online and that doesn't happen that often on pc version. Wish it had voice acting in my language, but EA probably decided to cut some features- unfortunately sometimes the translation was wrong and plain bad. Unfortunately, NPC don’t usually speak about interesting or personal stuff like they used to do in the other Mass Effect games.
I didn't expected anything from this game because people talked trash about it, but I've kinda appreciated it anyway. So many reviewers all over the net say that this game is bad because of "ugly characters", but every video/article trash-talk different characters (Cora, Peebee, Suvi, mainly women), so maybe they aren't ugly but particular, and that's something nice. ...I would've appreciated a super hot asari like Samara anyway. Don’t trust any review that talks about “SJW **** because that’s nonsense. I didn’t get an “anti-white” feel from this: I’m white and I hate racism (also towards non-POC)- I don’t really understand where some saw it.
The character creator is terrible. It is getting better with updates, but it's nothing like Dragon Age Inquisition's one, and this is pretty sad.
Wish the story was more…new. The concept looks old. Remnants are like Protheans, but looks like they could become something different in the next game…if a next game will be made. There are choices and they are kinda important, especially in the long term (as in a sequel), don’t know what others are talking about. Of course the changes are not immediate and not everything is important, but there are definitely some choices. I have played the game only once (and I do not plan to replay it, I don’t like the idea of more Ryder or more Shepard, I wanna have this as my story), but I think that you can be "renegade"- you won’t see it in this game, but in the next one, as it happened in Mass Effect 1.
It's not a Shepard saga's game, but it's interesting anyway, and I hope that they'll release the DLCs one day.

    Multiplayer:
Boring and based on items that you should buy, and people never save you when you need help. I don't like playing online anyway, so I don't really care.

I have been hesitant to purchase this game given the poor reviews I've read and heard about since it was released several months ago. After being stuck on my computer for 80 hours over the past few weeks, I can't for the life of me, understand why people reviewed this game so poorly.

It has the best of Mass Effect's previous iterations, from galactic planet discovery and resource gathering to granular exploration of new lands and cultures. The game is beautifully created, has a massive story line and seemingly never-ending quests. Once you get the hang of the controls after a few hours, the fight sequences are enjoyable and challenging (depending on your preferred game difficulty setting), and are broken up reasonably among political & exploratory content so as not to be overwhelming.

If I feel like flying through the galaxy and looking at pretty stars and stellar formations, I have that option to do so. If I'm in the mood to casually stroll around a starship or planet, I'm welcome to do so on a whim. If I want to explode green alien heads, my sniper rifle is at the ready in a click.

My only two complaints are 1) The fact that the characters are somehow able to travel through the Andromeda galaxy without mass relays - a plot hole which I can look beyond to enjoy the plot of the new game, and 2) Neither male nor female characters seem particularly appealing for the sake of pursuing an in-game relationship, but at least there are plenty of options, plus, the character interactions are comedic and entertaining even if the romances are a bit trite.

If there were initial bugs to the game, I assume they must have been fixed since I haven't had any problems with quests. Some of the animations are still imperfect, but this is a video game and I don't expect 100 hours of content to have been filmed via motion capture.

Long story short, I hope the initial bad reviews start to wash away. This game was obviously built to be the first chapter in an evolving story, so I would hate to not have an opportunity to play another. God speed, Bioware!

I have spent 150 hours with this game already and it is well worth the full price.

The only regret I have is not buying it sooner. Highly recommended!

I was late to the party, purchasing this game in late Dec 2017. Now that I've completed it, I wanted to write a honest review. Overall I loved this game. It was just as good if not better than all the previous Mass Effect titles. I feel like the creators took everything that was good about the previous games and incorporated that into Andromeda. I really enjoyed the character customization with the various skill trees, the research/development, and some of the other new things like Strike Teams, etc. I have to admin that I relied on Google to help me with some tutorials of the new systems, but I was able to find the information, understand, and enjoy them so I'm not docking them for that.

The storyline was a fun way to expand the ME universe. Going 600 years in the future, with no ability to contact the Milky Way galaxy. But you still have everything about the ME galaxy that went with the colonists to Andromeda, with all the new discoveries that the Helius cluster has to offer. Without giving away too many details, the actual events in the storyline were interesting and enjoyable.

Something I also enjoyed was the characters themselves and the dialogue between them. if you've played ME before, you know they already have done a great job with character development and making you truly care about these people. With Andromeda, they continued that great work. I thought that Andromeda had a lot more humor than the previous titles, and that may be because of the personality differences between Shepard and Ryder. It was a lot of fun, and I think it worked well.

I probably missed a lot of things in my review, but I wanted to write SOMETHING about this game because I feel that the critics got it all wrong and were way too harsh with the criticism. Something needed to be said. If you haven't checked out this game, I would definitely recommend it. Great work BioWare! Here's to hoping you guys make a sequel.

Hmm, i avoided this game longer time, because of negative critics and bad talks. Recently i played through it all. And i am glad i did. Its not best rpg, but its nowhere near anything bad, at all.
I played and loved ME1 and ME2, and all critics should be towards ME3, where whole ME saga went to crap, except pretty good characters, rest was **** game, crappy combat, story plot so dumb. ME3

Theres just one thing, suck ass characters are so omg, especially Peebe nightmare worst character i seen in games in long long time. There bioware totally screwed up. If unpatched game from start was way worse even with Ryder and others, it mustve been real hell, there i see source of bad critics.
All patched now, i quite enjoyed it. Story not stellar, but whatever. Combat is perfect, gears etc too, lot of exploring. Few annoying glitches, nothing serious. Except really really bad characters, bad written, and some SUPER bad looking. Looks count, ALOT, remember that, bioware.
I would give 8/10, had quite fun, but seeing those 0/10 crybabies, i am giving 10 to even it up a bit.

The only REAL problem with this game is that it's not the OG trilogy and not DA O, The game is really good when you are not comparing it to these game and has one of the best squads Bioware ever created! Also, we get a way better Family dynamic than the rest of their games. Not to mention it's also one hell off a looker.

Mass Effect andromeda’s only major flaw was that it was written with an expectation that a sequel was guaranteed.

The gameplay was smoother than ever.

The story was setting up for something amazing. And the characters personal growth was so varied (not everyone was growing into a better soldier they each had a unique story). It was exciting to see where everyone went.

    Loved the game.
The series getting back to its Mass Effect 1 roots, being more of an RPG and open-world game, with focus on exploration, and combat where you're more free to walk around and not so glued to cover.
Glitches and animations by far not as bad as people make 'em sound and fixed with the patches.

It took a lot of fire for a number of different reasons including the lack of facial expressions, however, I find most of the stories compelling, the characters feel real with quirks and they just seemed to come alive. This game is an unappreciated masterpiece and might be the best of the series, with elements of Mass Effect 1 through 3 in game play, crafting, and online missions. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I have replayed Mass Effect: Andromeda while waiting for the Legendary Edition. It's now been fully patched and it is in a much better position than it was at launch. But to be honest, it wasn't as bad at launch as some people would have you believe. At least in my experience, there were some mediocre animations for one NPC and some superficial glitches that didn't impact the flow of the game. Nothing gamebreaking.

The Mass Effect trilogy is one of the best game series ever made. They are also my favorite games. And the fact that it's a trilogy allowed the characters to develop their charactermuch better and to be more fleshed out over the course of the games. The overarching story and the characters are what makes Mass Effect amazing.

So there were high expectations for Mass Effect: Andromeda. And Andromeda is actually a pretty good game. Given the big shoes it had to fill after the original trilogy, and the fact that the studio was inexperienced and this was a very ambitious project, not the mention they were constrained by time, it is a wonder the game is this good.

What I like in Andromeda is the gameplay. It's quick, fluid, responsive and satisfying. However, I do not like the fact that you can only have 3 active abilities at any given time. But I understand they did it because of the profile system. I simply wish I had more abilities so that I can make combos, especially since you cannot manually activate your companions' abilities. This is something I don't like. I assume most players would let the companions automatically use their abilities, but they should have at least given us the option. I also love the jetpack and the jetpack dashes, which gave combat a new dimension. Because of that, the combat felt more intense. You aren't stuck behind cover anymore, you could move around the battlefield more easily.

Also, the Architect fights are epic.

I liked the crafting system, too. I crafted all my armor and weapons, I added mods and augmentations. There is a decent variety of weapons, but I mostly sticked with the Sweeper because of the infinite ammo. It also reminded me of the heat system in Mass Effect 1. And I do prefer the heat system to the clip system. Also, crafted weapons are so much better than the ones you find.

The Nomad drives excellently. You can upgrade its engine, shields and life support system. You have an all-wheel drive to climb hills and a mode where the stability assist is disabled for increased agility. It would be extremely unfair to compare it to the Mako for obvious reasons, but the Nomad simply feels great.

The graphics are beautiful. There is a large variety of planets, from snowy planets, to desert planets, to tropical forrest planets, each planet having its own feel with different geographical landscapes.

I love the new characters. And I am sure if we had two more Andromeda games, and also DLC for them, the characters would have been even more fleshed out and they would have a better chance at character development. And of course, not all characters are equally interesting. But that is true for the original trilogy as well. Jacob, for example, wasn't the most interesting character. I like Jaal and the fact that we get introduced to a new Mass Effect alien race, the Angara. I also love Vetra and Drack. Peebee is fun. I loved the banter between Kallo and Gill. Kallo was a good choice for a pilot, I'm glad they didn't try to make Joker 2.

Exploration is a big theme in Andromeda. And I did like exploring the planets with the Nomad. I'm a completionist and I did all the missions I found and I went to all map objectives. It took me around 100 hours to finish the game. The vaults are a big part of the game as well, but to be honest they aren't that interesting. I mean you go there, you kill remnants, you activate a console, then you run. You ocasionally find some hidden loot containers, but nothing too exciting.

Most missions were interesting. The main ones and the companion loyalty ones were great. But the "scan the bodies of 10 dead colonists but we are not going to give you any map markers" were **** Those are the only missions I didn't finish. But I guess it's to be expected. I think all games have "filler" missions like these.

Now I want to talk about the main story and the villains. The villain is unfortunately not very interesting. He's your typical "evil bad guy wants to take over the galaxy". But the overarching story is interesting, especially at the end where you learn that the Remnants and the vaults were created by a very advanced mysterious alien race, the Jardaan. And they also engineered and created an entire alien species, the Angara! And the Scourge phenomenon was a weapon used against these mysterious advanced aliens. This story has a lot of potential.

Damn, I am approaching the 5000 character limit. Anyway, my point is, Andromeda isn't a bad game. it is in fact a surprisingly good game. Give it a chance if you like RPGs.

There are still bugs, and the animation is far worse than old chapters in Mass Effect saga, but it really is solid game, story-wise, gameplay-wise, and with really pretty graphics. But I don't regret playing and finishing the game at all, that was a grand adventure with, suprisingly, the most satysfying ending from all other Mass Effects. After finishing I felt that the story really is complete, and the future games would be a welcome suprise more than a necessity. But, big minus is that I had to install a mod created by players to fix some of the issues with the game, including quests not showing up. It really is sad that this game could be the next great Mass Effect, but was so damaged at the beginning, that it's really difficult to appreciate it now. Because there is a gigantic potential, that can be felt throuought the game, and it really is very fun. Expand

Builds and pumping, combat mechanics, interface, graphics, controls and the most disgusting, faces and their animations. God, but all the games from BioMusor in terms of faces have degraded for whole generations, only because of this it is impossible to at least try to go through part of the content of their projects, when you see these lifeless faces during emotional moments that scream in your soul to be killed and buried deeper to the bottom, even Skyrim in this regard looks like the purest emerald against their background, although there are plenty of problems with faces. I also no longer understand the solution to the existence of the project from the 3rd person, when the mechanics, the world around, everything looks like it would be perfect for a first-person view, and not far from the truth, I ran with an amateur mod from the 1st person to the 2nd part and got a new inspiration, in some understanding the attitude to the project has changed dramatically, but the mod does not work for the action and therefore I had to demolish the game, although no, just nerves could not stand seeing these faces and the interface of 2000. As much as I don't like Tali'zora, but even for her sake it's impossible to overcome. I downloaded a pseudo remake of all the parts, which rather looks like an attempt to make BioMusor money on a trilogy of their games, absolutely without investing, yes, they improved the graphics in 1 part, but everything, not gameplay changes, not adding a 1-person view, not changing faces, although no, they changed, for the worse, my God, when they fire those responsible for the development of faces. Of course, I do not claim that Andromeda is godlike, the same ending, boss on the last difficulty, grind, pseudo stories in absolutely all documents about strong and independent women, animation of the ship's flight that cannot be skipped, in general, a feeling of emptiness in the project, the absence of a @ex scene with Vetra, from which there is a desire to break through G... to the management of BioMusor, ahem, yes, there are a lot of problems, but the project as a whole feels like a really new experience, when the characters really express emotions, in the history of which you really delve into, and Mass2, in which Miranda kills a traitor and stands with a flattened stone face, this creature is even impossible to describe, the embryo that they decided to leave alive, if there was a choice, I would get rid of her even in the very initial prologue. But as they say, one "especially gifted" will never understand the herd, and why the herd of 2 parts threw 8.9, and Andromeda 5.0. Expand

Kallo and Lexi had more character and better showings then Joker and Chakwas ever did across three games. And as usual, the Krogan are well done and well written.

it also felt like the Asari bias that I picked up on in the OT wasn't there, which was also great.

The gameplay was of course fantastic and fun, and SAM was a pleasant and entertaining companion with his straight man routine. lol

    Ah well.

I'm a little over 22 hours in and I am having a blast. I have no idea what people are talking about. The facial expressions (especially the eyes) are a little wonky, certainly, but the story / gameplay is super fun. It DOES take a bit of time to get to the main gist of the game, how all the components work, etc... (there is a LOT in this game, something we can all agree on). It's a big game...

Outside of some odd facial expressions and body movements during dialogue (eye roll), this game is flipping BEAUTIFUL. One of the best looking games I've ever played (saying a lot). Just amazingly gorgeous. The voice acting is superb, even if some of the writing sounded like it came from a 12 year old. While some here are talking about that, I've only noticed one or two things that made me stop and say "gah, they could have written something less cringeworthy there." To suggest ALL of the writing is bad would be dishonest beyond belief.

I think most of the criticisms here stem from this game not being the most perfectest Witcher 3 killer bestgameever right at launch, and only because expectations were so high for a beloved series. But I'm telling you... this game is massive, fun, gorgeous and is most definitely a very good game.

When I first booted original Mass Effect back in 2008, I was enchanted by the size and lore depth in the game, beautiful planets that I was traversing incide the Mako, diverse aliens, and, of course, story. ME2 and ME3 while also great games were a step back for me, because even though the action gameplay mechanics were considerably improved, the games lacked in other departments like exploration (Mako was taken away, the Citadel shrank in size, etc.) and seamless immersion (elevators taken away).
Andromeda is like a return to the roots for me with is stress on exploration, planets mining, Nomad riding. And, boy, do I adore space travel representation. Some people say it gets boring, but for me its not. The story is also top-notch, IMO, just as writing (it may seem childish to some, but for me it's not; on the contrary, it stresses that the characters, esp. Ryder, are all in all learning how to behave accordingly to the situation when responsibility suddenly falls on their shoulders, and the characters constantly grow). The squadmates are also quite diverse and interesting, and very layered.
As for the criticisms that most reviewers have like bad animations (honestly, upon watching some youtube videos I was a bit scared), bad lip sync, frame rate drops, etc, I haven't experienced any or they were unnoticable and hardly influenced my experience in a bad way. Now, the only criticism I can partially get behind is a lack of alien variety. However, as the game takes place only in a small portion of Andromeda galaxy, as the exploration continues to other parts (in sequels), I suppose we'll see more new species coming up.
So, my honest rating (based on the return of the sense of wonder that was present in ME1) is 9/10.

I think people set their expectations extremely high due to the trilogy we all know and love, and when Andromeda failed to be as epic as three games rolled into one during the first couple of hours of gameplay, they became very disappointed.

Andromeda is by no means a bad game. It reminds me the most of the first Mass Effect with a clear focus on exploration. The story isn't as urgent as with the trilogy, because there's no acute threat, "only" a need to establish a new home in a new galaxy, which fits well with the exploration theme and actually for once it makes sense to help people along the way - you do it for the survival.

The games certainly has some bugs and could use a bit more polish in some areas. I personally don't mind the animations, I think they're bad only on Addison and sometimes Sarah. What bothers me the most is the clunky UI and unskippable cutscenes when travelling between planets.

What on the other hand is great is the combat, which is definitely most fun from all the ME games. It's very dynamic, fluid yet not confusing and thanks to not being restricted to one class, you can switch between different playstyles or classes to your heart's content. The only questionable thing here is the limitation to only 3 active skills, which is somewhat negated by being able to switch your profiles and skill loadouts.

The sidequests are mostly interesting and the more boring "fetchquesty" stuff is clearly labelled as additional tasks and can be avoided completely.

    In conclusion:

    The good:

Lots of stuff to do and explore
    Combat
    Companions
    Great visuals
    Interesting sidequests
    Puzzles as fun

    The "meh":

Main story isn't as gripping as the original trilogy
    Some animations are iffy
    Occasional bugs

    The ugly:
    Clunky UI
Unskippable cutscenes that take up a lot of time

Overall a great game to get immersed in and explore new worlds.

I get all the negative reviews and I cannot really argue or disagree with them. They are all correct in their own perspective and I'd love to see the Bioware I knew back in Baldur's Gate days. But when I got my first outpost coming down from the sky after a hell of a work to get it done, it gave me some strong emotions. Good ones too. Like some I got from Gothic 2, The Witcher (all of them), Dragon Age Origins and the Mass Effect games (of course, the last 10 min of ME3 excluded). I am enjoying to play Andromeda like if it were one of those great games despite of its flaws. Maybe I got too soft while aging or maybe young people nowadays are too demanding. I followed pre-release Andromeda Initiative and signed up and watched it all. I was excited with it while waiting for the chance to play. Honestly, I am not even a bit frustrated. I wish I had a better rig for better FPS and graphics but I'm working on it soon. I am actually impressed that the game can be much better than so many b/s I've played throughout the years and it's not different of what was presented in the pre-release vids and cinematics. I am loving my pathfinder and all she is doing in game. The companions are cool too. The only thing that makes me sad about it is that Bioware is no CDPR and there will be no Enhanced Edition or a super mega hiper patch for free, fixing most of the flaws. But that's only my guessing. Who knows what they have learned watching CDPR going from a small Warsaw studio to one of the most brilliant game developers. I still pray that EA gets their dirty hands far away from those Polish guys. The rest, I can live with. Combat is cool! INSANITY!!!

The game as it is has an engaging start, like able characters albeit some dialogues needed a little more fleshing out in my opinion. (Ryder and Suvi flirting for example)

The gameplay is fast and fun unlike Dragon Age : Inquisition or Mass Effect 3 (i'm not saying they aren't fun games but the combat in ME:A really brought the franchise to the next level).
Gunplay is good, weapon and armor variety is outstanding (multiple pieces from each faction).
Crafting is fleshed out, it's not basic nor complex, just good overall.
The nomad handles very well and planetary exploration of each habitat is mysterious and open world like, it follows the Ubisoft Formula without throwng too much to do at you.
The storytelling and pace of the game keeps you wanting for more and doesn't have the dreaded Citadel simulator aspect of previous games. You do go to the Nexus and the Tempest but not as much as before.
The Remnant (ancient alien) faction is very good, their temples and underground complex remind me of action puzzlers and platformers where you need to figure out the intricacies of the puzzles with not a lot of handholding going on.
Space exploration/scanning is back but it's less of a chore and is visually stunning, if i was to complain about one thing it is indeed the zooming around the galaxy which is a bit slow but it's a non issue just a small gripe.

Overall, Ryder is a very likeable character both male and female, the cast and crew is very fleshed out and well made, they all have their own personalities, needs and wants and you'll never get bored reading through terminals or discussing matters with them.

The game doesn't deserve the backlash it got especially since it was developed by a team of amateurs and freelances.
On a positive note, their next game will probably be a masterpiece if they tune down the virtue signaling and sjw pandering and think about making a game for gamers instead of shoving that little bit of nonsense up our throats.

ME:A is a good game. You shouldn't compare it to original trilogy, simply because another people made this game. They are not Casey Hudson and his team, but they did a good job making it a MASS EFFECT game. I felt the same as when i played ME 1. Animations are really bad(mostly human and mostly at the beginnig Nexus part). ME:A has potential.

Feels like a mix between Inquisition and Mass Effect 1. Some parts of this game aren't as fleshed as they should or could have been. Some parts of this game aren't as fleshed as they should or could have been. Examples such as the story being of a smaller or lesser scale than the original Mass Effect trilogy could be warranted. But I would argue that we need to view this as a new game. Aside from the physics and the races nothing is left of the of the original galaxy. No Shepard, no Normandy crew, no Reapers or Geth etc etc. This is important to consider. Aside from Sovereigns monologues and the warnings we had not much in terms of opposition. Saren was not that scary or good in my opinion. The Archon is a piece of work and fighting him at several turns is good and you feel accomplished when you escape
The characters are as always partly hit and miss. Some people hated Kaiden while they liked Ashley and vice versa. Most people hated Taylor and yes, he was the most boring character. We have one of those here too though his loyalty mission was good. The other characters are fleshed out. There is more comedy good in some cases unwarranted in others. I'm certain they will adress this later on.
The most glaring problem I have is that the writing of the dialog is on sadly many places a bit childish. I know this game is tailored to mostly young people and I'm no longer a child like when the first game came out though sometimes it can be cringe worthy listening to and I hope they will fix this in the future.
The Voice acting is as always very good and only suffers due to the less than stellar dialog. Mostly it works though.

The gameplay in my opinion is very good. The addition of jetpacks adds another dimension that has been lacking and the adaptability the player can enjoy if they want it is very good and also explained well. This was a concern I had but the combat system is better than in the original trilogy.

The face animations are not always spot on. That only concerns Human and Asari animation. The eyes are sometimes a problem but I think that's a bug but might be wrong. The Frostbite engine isn't good when it comes to faces but when I consider Vetra, Kallo and Drack I think they did well. Kallo's face close up looks almost lifelike.

The exploration is well done. But it suffers from scale. It's a bit too big but consider how it was in Mass Effect 1. Mostly empty planets. This is bigger and is their second attempt. Consider the influence the Dragon Age team might have had so its natural it might emulate it. Smaller scale might have been good but you need to see the planets.

Overall its a good start to a new trilogy and I'll hang around Bioware's games for a good while. They all have their issues in some ways but always deliver a very enjoyable experience in the end . Good job :)

They mixed the best of the original ME games, such as world exploration and a rover (ME1), with much improved combat mechanics (ME3), plus added a jetpack and much greater mobility. There is a lot to really really like about MEA.... now. I'm just afraid EA may have already wrecked the franchise, by forcing the release of what felt like an early beta, as a finished triple A title, resulting in **** reviews and poor sales. Take a hint EA, FINISH THE GAME BEFORE RELEASE NEXT TIME! It will score better and make you more than enough money to make up for a slightly extended development cycle. Graphics (8/10): they do the job. Shaders are impressive in some moments. The artistic direction is mixed, with character and planet design of moderate quality, but with places like alien temples and ships, underground ice caves and Havarl (a jungle-type planet) that are amazing. Regarding the “facial animations” issue, it’s definitely a minor thing mainly affecting Director Addison. There are some bugs going on though for example jumping animations breaking or enemies losing their animations too and becoming paralyzed, these happen sadly often.

Sound (8/10): music is one of the weak points of the game, the music is not “bad” but it is quickly forgotten and lacks personality, being just your average science-fiction theme music. The voice acting, however, is just perfect.

Gameplay (8/10): The combat is a lot of fun, dynamic and an evolution of the trilogy. However some combat elements are gone like the ability to choose the specific skills you want a partner to use. Regarding the exploration, Bioware is still a bit amateur building large/open worlds. ME:A has several big planets that are superficially interesting and motivate some exploring, but you quickly realize there’s not a lot to do in them and it’s better to move on. The puzzles are repetitive and reduced to sudoku-like games, which speaks of little effort or originality from the developers. Same goes to scanning minigames which get repetitive too fast. Regarding the “less dialogue” options, it is not true. From the original “good/bad” dichotomy, we now have 2 dichotomies: the emotional approach will give the opposite results of the logical approach, while the professional approach will give the opposite results of the casual approach. Regarding the “limited type of enemies” issue, it isn’t true either, in the original mass effect there were mostly 3 factions of enemies per game, as like the reapers, the geth and bandits (meaning renegade/pirates etc). In Andromeda you still have 3 factions: the remnant, the kett and bandits.

Story/Setting (9/10): Let’s start with the characters. Ryder is not as attractive as Shepard, but instead is kind of a regular person and overall likeable. It lacks personal growth though, as his personality and reactions stay pretty much the same from start to finish. Regarding the crew we have brilliant characters like Peebe, very human-like ones like Cora, mixed with the quite forgettable rest. This is mainly an issue with their personalities being unimpressive, not so much with them lacking depth, because all of them have a big amount of dialogue and side content behind, probably more than any character of the original trilogy. Some non-party members would have been a much better choice to be party members, like Reyes, Sloanne, the pathfinders, etc. Lastly the villains, named the Kett, are mysterious enough to remain interesting until the end, but do not expect something as innovative and overwhelming as the Reapers. Regarding the plot, it is overall in the same level of quality as ME1, with your regular dose of twists and intrigue, but it should be noted it is heavily inspired by the trilogy, and the parallelisms makes some situations/discoveries too familiar to be exciting. The side content is mainly of moderate quality, with uninteresting plots that lack any connection to the protagonist, the main story or the party to stay relevant. Party members related quests being the exception.
One of the big drawbacks of the game is the setting/universe. Andromeda planets fail big time to impress you, mainly because nearly none of them feel “alien”, but rather chunks of familiar Earthly ecosystems like deserts or the Arctic that kind of kill the mood for exploration after a couple hours on the planet. The lack of ideas in this aspect becomes evident when you reach the second desert-like planet. One was more than enough... The fact that they lack “time” was also a disappointing, meaning they lack things like a day/night cycle, or a “life cycle” for inhabitants, that is to say NPCs are static elements in the scene instead of moving and/or interacting with their surroundings (like they do in Skyrim or The Witcher 3). Also the Angara race, the -only- Andromeda new humanoid friendly species, are a bit disappointing too, feeling painfully familiar and lacking personality.
Regarding the ending, epilogue included, it was mostly up to my expectations and made up for many of the flaws I saw throughout the game, but a “big last boss” would have been a good addition.

In summary, the game still has the Mass Effect feel to it and will keep u hooked until the end, but the evident quantity over quality approach prevents it from being at the level of the original trilogy. This should probably be an “8 point something” so let’s keep it a 9/10, if only to make up for the big amount of undeserving hate in here.

This game is essentially what i imagine the devs envisioned when they set out to make Mass Effect 1. Now with the technology to fully realise their vision, they more or less achieved it and succeeded in properly realising the ambitious things Mass Effect 1 could only attempt on a very basic scale and in some cases could only dream of doing.

I got around 100 hours out of this game, seeing perhaps 95 percent of its content, and i have to say, i thoroughly enjoyed the game where i expected not to. The awful word of mouth that followed this games release had lowered my expectations a great deal, but i was pleasantly surprised when i landed on the first planet and realised just how cool the game really is.

Graphically the game is gorgeous, combat is fantastic (i HIGHLY recommend playing on the hardest difficulty for the best challenge and experience) music is brilliant, map design is fantastic also.

The game still has its faults, mostly being the story telling and some cringey dialogue. Also some of that awkward facial animation remains, but you'd have to be an extremely shallow person with unreasonably high expectations to let that ruin a game completely for you. It should be more about game play with this game, and with the game play, it truly excels.

I wont try to tell you the game is perfect because it isn't. But i will come here to try to give what i think is a more fair assessment in contrast to the overwhelming negativity i see here in the user reviews.

If you are a fan of SCI FI, Mass Effect, exploration, fun combat, just play the game for yourself and see if you agree with the abundance of 0/10 reviews here. Because i really dont.

There's some glitchy animation, but that's true in every ME game ever. Bioware's strength is their stories and they do not disappoint this time around. The story is solid, engaging and has moments of hilarity as well as sadness. Combat is also leaps and bounds improved and far more entertaining than in previous ME games.
