    A total disaster. Poorly optimization, plenty of bugs. A bland story without soul, stupid characters, technical flaws in the animations that destroy emotional involvement with them and changes in combat that make them simpler than the previous ones. A turd covered with silk. A loss of money and time.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Everything about this game is an absolute disgrace to the once legendary name of Mass Effect. This EA abomination has about as much to do with Mass Effect as S&M relates to M&M's. I don't even know where to begin on how awful this game truly is. It is an absolute travesty, an abomination. The characters are paper-thin cutouts who you will never give two **** about ever. All the wonderful and amazing cast from the original trilogy now have to take a backseat to disgustingly glitchy facial animations, broken camera, buggy ass game-play, boring useless sidequests, and childish cringe-level 9000 dialogue. Player choice means jack **** the entire game, there is no weight or gravity to any decisions you make.

    Every design is inferior to the original trilogy. I don't care how good the graphics are, the gameplay is repetitive, buggy, and broken, while the writing will make you lose faith in all humanity forever. Mass Effect once had the greatest, story, characters, and RPG elements of any game. Thanks to Mass Effect Andromeda, the series is now on critical life support, and is fading fast.

    Bioware needs to realize EA is pure evil, give them the finger, run far away from them,and then ressurect Commander Shepard in the TRUE Mass Effect 4 all of us loyal fans deserve over this blatant garbage!!! Avoid at all costs if you, like me, adore the original Mass Effect series, and want a return to form!!!    … Expand

    What did I just play? The facial animations look like the characters are constantly constipated and desperately need to discharge their bowls. Only 1 character was likable, the rest had no depth. Did I mention how bad the facial animations was? The omny tool looks like the discharged contents of said characters. The story felt like the children of said discharge.    The bad:

    Thanks to a bug (one of millions) I can not end the game and load it from last save point, I must play again from the beginning, frustrating! And no response from Origin or EA. Thank you, very big pitty of money. I love ME 1-3, but this is not mass effect, this is **** Be carefull on your wallets.

    more issue then i want to list. controls. animations, combat is clunky. me3 was better, and its 5yrs old now. witcher3 has better graphics. and the dialog is ridiculously stupid.

    The animations are just a little off, but don't worry, maybe they will be fixed someday.     As for the bioware devs I excuse them - they just watched too much "gamer's poop" and got carried away with the animations. We have to thank them instead, because they integrated gamer's poop into the main game, so that manslayer doesn't have to.

    Besides, the game was nothing less than I expected. I am get used to being milked by companies and there's nothing wrong with that. The game is clearly AAA quality, like other AAA games I have played in the past, e.g. Angry Birds. Nothing to complain about. So haters gonna hate, I am going to buy their next game as well and be proud about it and I think I have proven why user score is so, so stupid. We'll bang ok?    … Expand

    There is some issue with getting a black screen on load; thats what I get. 2patches later, and the issue persists, My pc meets the minimum requirements and twice the ram. I read it uses level scailing as well, possibly the most asinine thing to hit games period, if I cant play it and there is no explaination or work around it gets a zero regardless.     Everything about this game is half assed. From it's animations, to it's puzzles, to it's characters. It's Half-Assed Effect: Scandromeda.

    The biggest complaint I have is the god damn sudoku puzzles. **** YOU BIOWARE for even putting these in your fricking game. I hate sudoku. It's NOT FUN! If I wanted to go play Sudoku I'd go ****ing play Sudoku, but this game forces you to play    Everything about this game is half assed. From it's animations, to it's puzzles, to it's characters.     Then there's all the half assed little details, rocks & plants floating in the air, they couldn't even be bothered to make an animation for when you get in/get out of the nomad/mako. They couldn't be bothered to make it so YOU CAN GET IN YOUR SHIP WITHOUT BEING IN FRICKING ORBIT! So you gotta watch a god dam cutscene every fricking time you go into your ship. They couldn't even be bothered to make space travel like it is in The Old Republic, either! Where you can still control your character while flying between planets on your ship. You know, like it should be? Half the voice actors sound like they are outsourced from India, the character customizations suck (DA:I had a lot more options than this game & even that was still limited) the combat is glitchy, enemies teleport around, companions are stupid & don't use cover or just take every bullet to the face, you can no longer control your companions freely like in previous games, crafting ****ing sucks because EVERYTHING REQUIRES EZO & EZO IS THE FRICKING RAREST ELEMENT! So you can't even ever craft anything because you can't find any god dam ezo! The UI sucks, & is a big fat cluster-fark, the UI glitches out constantly, the Nomad doesn't even have a fricking gun on it, the mako had a gun! Why doesn't the "New Mako" have a fricking gun? In Combat you get stuck on the smallest rocks, the camera is too close to you, & fixing the FOV barely does anything unless your outside combat, progression is slow as balls, the "Open World Elements" involve mostly driving around scanning **** etc.

    The story was written by morons. "Fix this broken computer by using audio frequencies" "We can send messages to our family we left behind in the Milky Way 600 years ago WHO ARE FRICKING DEAD & it would take a million years for it to reach them! Daddy leaves messages on planets he's never fricking been to! The Remnant are just geth & the Kett are basically Chosen from the first games. "Planets" are just flat maps that you go between like in Dragon Age Inquisition, it's basically DA:I in space just like everyone thought it would be.

    This game is a ****ing joke. If it weren't for the combat (which is sub-par overall but still enjoyable) the game wouldn't even be worth playing. The game just screams "Lazy" & "Half Assed" everywhere you look. Every NPC is lifeless, & does the same animation over & over when in world hubs, same with your companions. You'd think after games like Witcher 3 bioware would bring their RPG's into the fricking next generation, but nope. Just new generation graphics with the same dull tropes of the past, if not lamer tropes. $40million dollars... You'd think with that kind of budget they'd get some actual talent to make the game.    … Expand

    Those critics that are giving positive reviews are out of their minds. The campaign is horrible. Bioware must have went to the local creative writing high school class to get the story from them. Characters are forced upon you, and you have zero choices in the game. No matter what dialogue you choose your character says some poor witted sarcasm. Scanning for plannets, driving the stupid vehicle. They basically took everything that was bad in 1,2, and 3 and made it into this game. A lot of cut scenes are unskipable and the constant characters talking is very annoying. This will be right off the bat when you run towards a cave, Liam "look there is a cave over there" or "save your breath Ryder" as he pants for air. 0/10 don't buy it, bioware wasn't invested into the characters either and most dialogue didnt have a human to sculpt it, instead they used algorithms for lip movements. The only reason to buy the game is the multiplayer. All those game critics that gave this game a good review, let that be a lesson on not trusting these bad game review companies that aren't honest. As the fourth game in the series, the very first game of the series had more choices and emotional connection between the characters. Bioware has come a long way to nothing.… Expand

    The only part of the game that I enjoy so far is it's awesome combat system, granted the game doesn't drop frames / lag as it tends to do in several places for no reason at all. Gameplay wise it's the old ME but better, a lot better... however the amount of issues ruins the whole experience.

    This game is not worth your time if it costs 60$, I don't have to remind you that this is AAA product, and in it's current state avoid it like plague, this game is buggy, unoptimized, and feels like it was rushed.

    After patches, and when it will cost 30$ you can buy it, don't pay more for this crap - it's simply not worth it.    … Expand

There is nothing Mass Effect about this except in name and the "sci-fi" theme. You lost control over your squad, you lost squad customization, you lost paused strategy, and you lost having all your abilities instead of just 3 loadouts per combat. Furthermore, this is not a Mass Effect story you'd love and respect. Facial animation and all the other glitches are one thing, the simple fact that you simply couldn't care less to the two main protagonists (because they're as bland as a sack of potato) is another. Unlike Shephard, the game removes majority of you meaningful interaction and decision by removing the Paragon/Renegade option. All four options of your dialogue wheels pretty much saying the same thing with a different intonation or sentence structure. If the original Mass Effect trilogy is an epic full-length premium cinema, this is their direct-to-DVD spin off.

    If this is your first RPG however, and you never played Mass Effect before. Go for it. You have no greatness to base on, and the simplified RPG system of this game will serve you well as a training wheel of such genre going forward. Not to mention there will be more than enough flashy combats to keep your attention glued to the screen before you can repeatedly press skip on the next conversation.

    TL;DR, if you're a Mass Effect fan, let the taste of that great masterpiece fade with Shepard instead of being marred by this new release. If you're new to the genre, the franchise, or just looking for a mediocre cover-based shooter masqueraded as a Fischer-Price RPG. This is for you.

    The key element of the Mass Effect series is linear gameplay with focus on story, companions, engaging quests and cinematics and NOT on exploration and open worlds!

    Just like fallout4 they removed the rpg. They spend to much time making the system work on 4 years old consoles and didn't spend any time for pc users. How can the graphics look the same on a under powered console as a higher end pc? No thanks

    Do not believe all the good reviews here. The ugly characters and animations are making the whole gaming experiences unplayable. Since dragonage time till now, no improvement on the character design. Bioware should fired the director and designer.

    As it stands now this game should not have been released. It's buggy and ugly. Bioware has promised to update it, I'll revisit this score after that happens. For now, do not buy, wait for a big price drop (Maybe even humble bundle), patches, and/or for the modding community to fix it.

Movie companies are pushing their societal engineering agendas and now computer game producers do the same. The techniques which are used are the same too: their political views are incorporated into their game (or movies) but they won't tell you that (sometimes they do, but almost never); you have to find out for yourself after you have paid for the product.

    And this is what happened to Andromeda too. I haven't even started yet about the bugs and other unwelcome anomalies which are directly the cause of a long development cycle rushed into a sellable state. It's more catering to the will of the feminist lobby, beating you over your head with political messages, diversity and you name it. It happens in more and sometimes less subtle ways but that's how it always works.

    As it comes to actual gameplay, I have nothing to add relative to what others have to say about it and that's not good news either. It really is that bad. Bad voice acting, ugly characters where some say it is on purpose for Social Justice reasons, repetitive anti-climatic missions and you name it.

    I have to rate this game zero stars out of ten. Nothing is memorable other than the technical and artistic failures. On top of that this game, and producer too, have become another weapon of indoctrination for the young and the gullible.    … Expand

    Too much narration and not enough explanations of features. I hit a dead end scenario and no one on social media could help me with it. So I deleted the game. Perhaps there will be a substantial update to it but as of now it is not worth your time.

    - The writing is so poorly done that I don't believe it was written by anyone with any past experience.

    I think EA should focus on FIFA and Need for Speed franchises and drop all the other ones. the game is a travesty. got 10 hours trial but the game was so boring and ugly I deleted it after an hour. I don't know how can a studio comes up with such a bad animation, graphics, story and game-play

Edit 2: Due to BioWare's recent middle finger to the fanbase, announcing it's focus on books and multiplayer and telling the people who wanted single-player DLC and content to **** off, I will be changing all scores for my ME series reviews to 0.

    Summary - Mass Effect: Andromeda is faithful to the original trilogy, without sacrificing any depth that comes with the monumental task before you. The combat is tight, the animations are FINE despite what the mindless haters are saying (I've yet to notice anything, really) and the worlds, people and story are as deep as you've come to expect if you're already a fan, and very much worth buying if you're new and on the fence. The graphics are absolutely mindblowing, regardless of what specs your running (mostly high w/ frame rate drops here and there). My only complaint is I don't really notice any music, which really stood out in the first 3. Overall, BUY IT, I can't say enough good things about it, and if you like a deep RPG with people to meet and places to see, you will love it.

    The game takes place in 2819, 600 someodd years after the original games. In 2185, during the gulf of time between the events of Mass Effect 2 and the beginning of Mass Effect 3, The Nexus, a space station to rival the Citadel shipped off into the dark space between the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy millions of light years away, flanked by Arks representing the major races (Turian, Asari, Salarian and Human) You are Sara/Scott Ryder, the Daughter/Son of Pathfinder Alec Ryder, sent to find 7 golden worlds to settle. Things aren't as they seem, and **** quickly rockets in the direction of the nearest fan, is all I'll say.

    The first thing you're liable to notice outside of the stellar graphics when compared to the "meh" textures in ME3 is the verticality of the gameplay and environment with the edition of jumpjets (or Biotic powers, if you spec for them) which enable for much more frenetic combat. Enemy hiding behind cover? Jump and biotic charge their asses (if Vanguard, for example) The combat is very much fast paced, compared to any previous entries.

    In addition to the added versatility, they've brought back the huge honking talent trees from ME1 (Although not as gratuitous with how many levels there are) while mixing them with the branching paths introduced in ME3. Whats more is you are no longer restricted. Sure you pick a starting place, but after that, you can put points in to Tech (Overload, Incinerate, etc), Biotics (Charge, pull, etc) and Combat (Concussive shot, Omni Grenade, and weapon skills) along with the Mass Effect 3 change of a weight-based loadout. Old favorites return (I liked Incinerate and overload for utility) along with newcomers like Lance (A targeted Biotic power that you can land headshots with) and Invasion (Tech power, lowers enemy defense and deals a small bit of damage over a radius) One thing I'd register as a minor draw back is you're limited to 3 powers at once (though this is remedied by the favorites system)

    To top it all off, as you invest more points, you unlock interchangeable profiles based on the original classes (Invest in Combat/Biotics to unlock vanguard, whose perks allow you to refill shields by bashing people w/ melee) and you save up to 4 favorite loadouts (3 powers and a profile) to switch to on command with the F1-F4 keys.

    I won't go into terrible detail on the planet stuff there is to do, but the exploration of them (Eos, for example) is weaved into the questing experience (which is something I can't say for something like Dragon Age: Inquisition - The Fillering) and eventually, you can choose what kind of outposts to settle after you've raised the Viability. That being said, I could see how it could get boring to some.

    Last I'll touch on for fear of a character limit is the people you meet. A cast as diverse as you'd expect from the easy going Liam Kosta, to an insufferable thing named Addison, showcasing most of the races I've come to expect so far, both male and female (and the first 3 games didn't really show a lot of the female's of a given species, except for Eve and Nyreen in 3) The Dialog trees can get a little boring, given how many different things you can ask each character aboard the Tempest alone, but I personally very much love to know the people I'm fighting with, and they are all truly their own people with personalities and pasts. Obligatory mention of the fact that there are a fair few romance options, no matter which gender or orientation you lean towards.

    I very much want to give an honorable mention to the mindless hatebots that spurred me to write this, people who in all likelihood haven't even played the game yet, for making big ****fights out of hardly noticeable animation/facial issues (in my time, hardly noticeable, anyway.     By far one of the worst Mass effect games ever made. Redboxed it and returned it the next day. Sluggish, boring and just half baked. This is a prime example on how game politics and corporations place bets that us the gamer consumers would just buy anything. Im super happy I didnt pay retail cost or nowhere near that cost becuase they just dont deserve it.

    Colourful language aside:
    - Extremely dull story with *very* predictable twists.
    - Horrible writing in comparison to all other Mass Effect games.
    - The combat has taken three steps backwards and feels like a cheap fps, tps hybrid.
    - Despite everything that is this steaming pile of game it has many good critic reviews that will lull hardcore ME fans like myself into a state of thinking the game is okay to purchase- it isn't. I have played ME 1-3 with every DLC and gotten some serious enjoyment out of them, whereas Andromeda felt like a chore. A cheap ripoff following a hollow ME game template.

    In conclusion: There's a reason Bioware Montreal is getting axed. There's a reason why every positive user review has to include the phrase "I don't know why people are hating on this game", and there's a reason that bioware is having fire their employees and lie to protect them from getting harassed.

    This game is an insult to Mass Effect and anyone involved with any major aspect of its production should be ashamed of themselves.    … Expand

    Inoltre il doppiaggio ci è sempre stato fatto pesare in termini di costi, le software house ci hanno sempre, sempre, sempre propinato la storia che il doppiaggio costa e costa tanto, per giustificare quando non c'era; e ora che non c'è...il prodotto costa forse 10 euro in meno, in Italia? Non credo proprio. Ciò vuol dire che con ogni copia venduta da noi la EA guadagna ancora di più.

    E questi sono solo i lati negativi per noi, quelli per tutti potete ben leggerli nelle recensioni qui in giro...grafica assolutamente pessima; animazioni scadenti; storia banale; protagonisti asettici, musiche assolutamente scadenti e non all'altezza della prima saga...e chi più ne ha più ne metta.

    From all Bioware Games this is the worst I hardly qualifies as an RPG. It copies the bad aspects from other franchises like the terrible (clickfest) UI, cheesy/simple combat mechanics, terrible writing/dialogues and zero-consequences kind of story and totally forgets about the strengths of former Bioware Titles. (Great Story, well written Characters, meaningful choices, consequences, tactical combat, challenging (Non-Random!) encounters.

    You could take any ubisoft openworld title, put mass effect textures on it and it would probably even play better.

    The graphics is not even as big an issue as most people claim, Bioware never played big in that area - but they always looked okayish. But abandoning the mass effect franchise in this cheap copy cat / milking cow attempt is very low, even for EA standards.     The game is full of bugs, on cutscenes, combat, gameplay, they can be encountered anywhere. Some bugs are easy to ignore, but some are unacceptable, for a 2017 mass game, its simply trash. Character Creation was a HUGE waste of opportunity, not much to do here, because ALL HUMAN FACES look mediocre, and ALL females faces are ugly as hell!

    After that, you jump into the story, which is a critical disappointment, a NEW GALAXY that felt so empty. ''3'' new races, which the kett are the only interesting race with variety and mysterious presence in the galaxy, but the other 2 felt irrelevant, the angara felt like its near extinct by the kett and the remnant are some robots programmed to kill and guard stuff. The races felt very effortless. The andromeda galaxy doesnt stops there, what else does it has to offer? Empty planets with little to almost no life. The plot felt like a huge fiction in my opinion, a 10 man squad fighting a war and a galaxy at the same time, lol. And the writing was very weak- mediocre.

    So the exploration is not bad, because everything is nice to see and all but the side quests ALL felt like annoying fetch quests, i never really cared about any of them, witcher 3 side quests are masterpieces compared to these. The combat is the only thing i loved in this game. I liked the guns and armors, but i wanted more. The shooting and cover system was good, but the only problem i had with combat was the squad AI on HEAVY gunfights. For unlogical reasons, they would stop firing for a few seconds to either move/jumpjet or simply meditate in the middle of the fight, i noticed this because since i was playing on hard, i was starting to notice that my 2 squadmates where at times useless. At some points, they felt like decoys but their abilities where decent like the omni grenades which are a must on heavy gunfights with lots of enemies. The enemy ai was a pretty good experience, i always felt like they where trying to kill me, because they always try to flank the sh#t out of you. Overall the combat was pretty memorable.

    In conclusion, the combat succeeded its predecessors, but the story, the ''new'' galaxy, animations, the character creation and female faces are an insult to MASS EFFECT and its entire fanbase including me. I bought and played this game after watching countless negative reviews, thinking that it was all just a simple ''hate train''. No, is more than that, it is by far the biggest disappointment ive seen in gaming to date. Buggy, ugly and bad. Watch out CD Projekt Red, u dont want to be bought by EA, lol.    … Expand

    Mass Defect. Embarrassment to the saga. I'd have considered this game retrievable if it weren't for the fact that the flaws lay in the fundamental game mechanics, voice dialogue, facial expressions/animations, user interface, lackluster story line... I think you get the idea.

    The writing was so bad that I was laughing half the time at the unintended humor. Once the dialogue makes you really cringe you can always go scan something. I thought the DA: Inquisition dialogue was shallow and plastic, but they managed to make things worse.

    The voice acting was milquetoast, but I really can't blame the actors considering the content they had to work with.

    On the plus side, it installed without destroying my hard drive and only ctd's once or twice.    … Expand

But when the game is out and you wanna launch it,,, it is not. It is simply not launching. Because, according to Origin it will be available on March 23d. Not the 21th as it should all over the world. Googled solutions don't help me.So I pre-ordered the new Mass Effect: Andromeda.     Had to restart the campaign 3 times due to game breaking bugs and scripted doors not triggering or putting my vehicle in the ocean, or just randomly flinging it away, or    Kill it with fire before i lays eggs!     Playing this was a painful experience and sometimes I had the impression that I was actually playing a Gamer Poop from Mans1ay3r.

    Bioware is dying since Dragon Age Inquisition. Seriously, do not waste your money on this game, go play Space Invaders instead and you'll have a far better experience.    … Expand

    things that look like they may provide cover do not, some that do are total cheese spots and give you the magical ability to shoot through what should be otherwise impossible angles. and in reverse may just get you killed because you'll shoot the inanimate blockade you've chosen while staring down an enemy that can now shoot through aforementioned rock/wall. theres really no safety while moving in this auto cover system, because seemingly Ryder will magically have enough of this **** and just stand strait up to change directions and be met in kind with an auto aim, perfect firing line accuracy the enemy possesses from a quarter of a mile away using their smg/assault rifles .

    you too possess a smg assault rifle but i think your manufacturer may have left out any type of recoil compensation or rather Ryder being an elite trained operative was never tested on how well his grouping had been. so far as i can tell, all the abilities are the exact same from ME1, 2, &3. that may be a bonus for you, for me its a rather dull repetitive experience.

    voice acting seems to have been done in a studio far removed from the game dev team, being that whatever script was given to these poor souls had no descriptors on wtf was actually going on in any of these scenes. the emotional inflection or lack there of seems to plague about 90% of all game content..

    IMO most of the level designs seem a jumbled mess of procedural generated assets that the devs kept randomizing until they felt the cobbled together mess was considered playable. some of this is a true eyesore. But in all i think the most telling thing of this whole cash cow "member berry" experience (that i myself am not removed from) Is the lead designer of this project, you should watch out for these type of people, and no, I'm not referring to any type of race or ethnicity. rather a moral corrupt narcissist that believes the legitimate concerns of his fan base are to be blamed on the color of their skin rather than the evidence provided that he and his development team did in fact ship us **** and alot of it.

    he screams racism because you don't like the cringe worthy animations, narrow character customization, bad voice acting, graphical down grades, laggy controls and 80s action movie narritive, while without fans like you he wouldn't have had a job (and a damn good one at that), that gave him the ability to slag off a lead designer position in the first place. But just remember its not his fault, he made a good game, and if you dont think so your probably just a white racist, "writes this native american"

    I wanted to like this game, I really did, but there are just too many problems, too many bugs and glitches that shouldn't have gotten past the dev phase, and definitely shouldn't be in the finished product.

You've probably seen the countless articles talking about the terrible facial animations but they're only the tip of the iceberg. Throughout 9 hours of playtime I had the game crash twice, countless graphical glitches (bizarre model clipping, models snapping to T-positions etc.) and sporadic framerate drops (from around 100 fps to 20 for several seconds).
    Gameplay-wise, I will admit that the combat feels more fluid than the previous games, but who the **** plays Bioware games for the combat? Every side mission was a massively boring side quest. The dialogue options are completely pointless as every decision is essentially the same thing but worded differently. Some of the voice acting was VERY questionable and none of the voice actors seemed like actual professionals. The characters were very difficult to empathise with, largely due to the fact that their facial expressions never match the tone of what they are saying. I haven't tried out the multiplayer yet because I was intending to play with my friends, but none of them are willing to buy the game and I honestly can't blame them.

    As someone who has 300 hours on Mass Effect 2 alone, I don't see anything that I liked in the original trilogy in this game. It all just seems like a cheap cash-in on the Mass Effect name.    … Expand

    This is not Mass Effect. This is not even a decent game by itself. The developers should be really ashamed for making this.

    Postcard-pretty landscapes is pretty much all that there is good about Andromeda. They serve as backdrops for a boring, cliche-ridden, somewhat demented story with forgettable characters and even more forgettable missions.
