Playing Blizzard games since forever. Seeing everything Activision did - It's like seeing best friend from school - 'methzombie' barely living under the bridge - and you can't do anything to help - It just hurts...

If i got sooner to lvl 100, doing helltides, whispers or any other thing on the open world, I was going to 100% be creating a LOT of other characters to have the same hush experience.

Well i dont know where to start...
I never played any part of Diablo part, so when Diablo IV lauchned i wanted to try the new part, and take part of the journey at the beginning. This was a terrible decision.
I payed 70 € for this game and i regret it. The only fun part was playing the story for 15-25 h. After that, i noticed, that the endgame is such repetitive. You do the same thing

Played betas, prerelease and all the way until 8/1/23. While some balancing after release is completely expected this has just been terrible. To many exploits, bugs, broken skills, broken aspects. We hve just been testing the game for them on a game that should never have been released in this state. If a car company was selling cars that did not have features form 23 years ago and need 581 fixes and feedback from their customers... They would go out of business...why is it okay for the game industry to do this. Why do our rights not count, because it's digital content? We forgo any and all rights to these sleazy companies?

They lied when they said the cash shop would not take priority over the game. And they literally blew that in the first 60 seconds of season 1. Cash shop gets 10 new skins (that cost around $25 each) and the battle pass gets 2 skins, and one of them absolutely sucks.

I could go on. It's heart breaking. I blame Microtransactivision. This sleazy company will monetize any and everything. To quote a famous movie "You will never find a greater hive of scum and villainy" than that of Activision.

Microsoft please clean house. And put your paying customers first. Something that has not been done in a long time by this company.

Thank you to the Devs for trying, Activision sucked the soul from this company, completely dry.

Campaing is great i had a lot of fun. But then come the endgame, or a lack of it. there is no point of doing dungeons or bosses cause u cant trade the loot cause most of the items are soulbound. One of the biggest fun you can have doesnt exist in this game, I mean find an item you can sell and buy yourself items that you wanted for you character. Wasted money.

    - Endgame does not feel rewarding. If i finish 50 ND on Lvl 80, i should get some serious xp and not even 1 Paragon point.
    - Looting boring cause too many useless stats (e.g. found a wand with overpower and poison damage on sorcerer)
    - Horses
    - No build variety
    - Most affixes just trash
    - prices for rerolling way too high
    - Endgame feels unrewarding and boring. You dont need to get to max level cause you can find on Tier 4 items with max item power. Your only way to get stronger is with paragon points, but XP on higher levels takes way too long. So you can reach your max item level at lvl 70-80. Then you can look for the perfect item with the perfect rolls. But because there are so many trash stats, i'd prefer looking for a needle in a haystack.

    Smaller problems:
    - running circles in dungeons
    - gold drop
    - stash space
    - Glyph leveling not rewarding and capped
    - Battlepass (666 coins)
    - Season Hearts trash and wasting space

    Good:
    - Graphics
    - Sound
    - Story

The first 50 levels are quite fun if you play the campaign. If you still want fun playing Diablo, stop after campaign and go back to D2.

A Disastrous Disappointment: Diablo 4 Fails Gamers on Every Level

I recently made the grave mistake of shelling out a jaw-dropping $130 for Diablo 4, expecting a gaming experience that would be worth its weight in gold. What I got instead was an absolute disaster that left me questioning the sanity of the developers and the sanity of anyone who actually enjoys this travesty.

Let's start with the most glaring issue: the lack of WASD support. In an era where gaming has evolved to cater to various player preferences and abilities, Diablo 4 has decided to regress back to the Stone Age. Who on Earth thought that denying players the basic freedom of using WASD controls was a good idea? Apparently, the developers are either blissfully unaware of the gaming landscape or simply sadistic, reveling in the suffering of players with arthritis, carpal tunnel, or any other disability that makes traditional controls difficult.

But oh, don't worry, because apparently having control options isn't supposed to translate to good gameplay. No, according to the masterminds behind Diablo 4, we're all just supposed to adapt to their archaic control scheme and be grateful for the privilege of enduring their nonsensical design choices. Because who needs player accessibility and comfort when you can frustrate your audience to the point of tears?

And let's not even get started on the price tag. $130 for a game that's stuck in the past, not even bothering to acknowledge the basic standards of user-friendly controls? It's as if the developers are actively trying to rob players blind while simultaneously flipping them the middle finger. Congratulations, Blizzard, you've managed to outdo yourselves in creating a product that redefines the meaning of buyer's remorse.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 is a catastrophic failure on every conceivable level. Its lack of WASD support is a slap in the face to gamers with disabilities, and the notion that control options are somehow irrelevant to good gameplay is mind-bogglingly absurd. Save your hard-earned money and precious time for a game that actually respects its players and embraces modern gaming conventions. Diablo 4 is a prime example of how not to make a game, and I can only hope that the developers come to their senses before inflicting more misery upon unsuspecting players.

where the hell is the end game. There is literally no point going past lvl 70. You can get all the endgame (highest itemlevel) gear from this point. So being lvl 100 only makes it harder, because of this scaling. Then cherry on top, why? Why would you want to be level 100. There is no end game content where you can get better loot or do real UBER bosses to get even better gear.

The progression system is similar to the Diablo 3 system where you just do Greater Rifts to level up your gems and get paragon points. The game in its actual state does have a lot of potential because of its nice combatsystem and graphics. If blizzard would change the endgamesystem similar to poe and do innovative stuff like last epoch, this game and its community would love it. Also in its actual state there is a lot of air upwards.

All I wanted was more mindless, addicting Diablo 3 goodness. I just wanted more Diablo 3 with maybe better graphics. Diablo 3 was fun. And my avatar was a really hot looking girl with skimpy outfits. Why? Because it is fantasy, that's why. Now I can't even get a female avatar that does not look, well, like a man. I'm not here to be "woke". I'm here to have fun.

The game is so dark. Diablo 3 was fun it was filled with humor. I often laughed out loud. My avatar had the best LOL smart assed remarks. This is like if Demon Souls had a baby with Diablo 3. Diablo 3 was tongue in cheek. This game is just grim. That is no fun to me. Granted that could be personal preference.

The moment I arrived in the first real town, I saw other player avatars everywhere. Sort of a la FFIV. At the moment I tried everything possible to make my game private. I have no desire to see other players in their gear or on their mounts. I want Diablo 3 privacy with no other RL humans around. It was at that point, I decided I dint want to play Diablo 4 any further. And I am really disappointed I had to make that decision. I had very high hopes for Diablo 4. Now crushed. Damn!

    Story was interesting and engaging.
    Cinematics are fantastic.
Initial start to the game is generally well paced.
    Graphics and animations are polished.
The “world aesthetics” are pleasing and detailed.

Unfortunately this is where the good stuff ends. The worst of all, most of these negatives are not immediately obvious until AT LEAST 8h of gameplay. So no chance of getting a refund.

Most of the things that would make an ARPG a “good” title, are somehow missing or in a bad state. To the point where they’ve actively gone backwards from previous titles, and are missing core features that exist in any other lesser budget ARPG that already exists.

-Scaling mechanic. Interesting concept, terribly executed.
    -Never feeling truly ‘powerful’.
-Enemies scaling at a faster rate than you gain power from loot drops.
    -Woeful loot itemisation.
-Affixes, suffixes and legendary aspects that are so specific in their bonuses or activation criteria, that they introduce a level of complexity and build reliance that provide no true build diversity. This means that 99% of ‘good loot’ that drops, is not suitable for your build.
-Extremely lackluster skill tree compared to other ARPGs, and even significantly less options than Diablo 3.
-Paragon board that appears impressive, but in reality is just bland, grindy and uninspired. Providing you the ‘illusion’ of choice.
-No loot filter! (how is this missing?! seriously!)
    -Extremely grindy
-Current dev team has made it clear they WANT you to feel ‘weak’.
-Constant nerfs to anything that may feel ‘enjoyable’.
    -Very specific pre-determined ‘builds’
-Very little options for any kind of theory crafting or true build diversity.
-Basic quality of life features missing that should be a standard inclusion.
-Poorly designed and unengaging end-game loop.

With the lessons learnt from Diablo 3, and the ability to take inspiration from some of the innovations of Grim Dawn, Last Epoch, Inquisitor: Martyr and Path of Exile (+ others). The current state of Diablo 4 is entirely unacceptable, particularly for a AAA studio like Activision Blizzard.

This is easily the worst ROI I’ve had on a game in many many years.

In Diablo 2 (Resurrected) every stat had a meaning and you felt it immediately. In D4 everything is kind of just random numbers. It just feels wrong.

The graphics are beautiful. The story is interesting. However, if you want to play the game effectively, you have to skip most parts of the side quests, which are an important part of the world and how it feels. You lose a lot if you want to play the game effectively. If you want to experience the world, you waste a lot without getting anything in return. Trading is nearly disabled, which is a missed potential and at least for me close to be a killer of that game.

My conclusion: D2R feels worlds better than D4. I leave out the comparison to D3, because I didn't like this game at the time either. I preferred to keep playing D2(R) at that time.

Finally I would like to mention the shop: luckily it only contains cosmetics, but for the price of a whole game. These prices are completely exorbitant. Skins that can be found in the game are limited. So Blizzard forces you to run around looking like a garbage can. You used to be able to earn something like that in games in the past. That was the point of the games. But today, the point of games seems to be buying stuff for real money rather than progressing it. Where's the fun in that?

    My short summary:
    Graphics: 9/10 - Excellent & Immersive
Soundtrack: 9/10 - Just lovely as always
Progression System: 1/10 - Horizontal and not rewarding at all
Difficulty: 7/10 - Moderate and adjustable. But in some cases just unfair and disappointing.
Story: 5/10 - Would feel better if the game wouldn't punish you for playing it.
Multiplayer: 2/10 - Forced, Stealing immersion, and thats it. No meaningful trading. No real reason for it. And if you are playing in a group it is laggy.
Availability: 1/10 - Always forced to be online. No chance to play in a village. When Services are down, no game play is possible.
Price-Value ratio: 5/10 - It is a good game, where you can spend some time for one playthrough. But for that it is quite expensive.

    Sum: 4/10

I don't know what this game is, but it is not a Diablo title in anything other than name. I take that back. I know exactly what it is. A storefront posing as a beloved title.

Do you enjoy ARPGs with good loot and an exciting, yet challenging gameplay loop? Well keep perusing the store shelves because this isn't it.

Loot: One word. Abysmal. I can't count how "Big Bads" i've killed during the story and exploring that drop two measly pieces of loot that wouldn't even have been good 10 levels prior. Chest loot is not any better. Treasure Goblins need to be renamed to Trash Goblins. Everything looks the same and is littered with word salad to make you think it's good. But fear not. If you want great looking gear, all you have to do is open that wallet again and head on into the store. That's where the real effort went into gear design.

Combat: Combat is fun for about the first 20 levels. And then the realization that you will be using the same few skills for 80 more levels comes crashing down on you. Most skills are boring to use and look at. Everything else are passives that add little to no value to your build. Enemies will stun lock you constantly as the only way the game can pose a challenge is to take control away from the player. I remember another game that tried a similar approach. Warhammer Online relied heavily on CC'ing the player. How's that game doing? Oh right, it shut down 2 years after launch. Good model to follow Blizz.

Also, get used to fighting the exact same enemies over and over again regardless of zone. 20 hours in I was done with combat and just running from quest to quest.

Dungeons: Remember the feeling of delving deep into a dungeon, each level taking you closer to Hell and giving you the feeling of impending doom? Well forget that and get to finding the two keys that unlock the boss door or untying 5 bodies from stakes. Why? Creative Bankruptcy. Now get to it.

MMO BS: Collect 5 flowers, fill this flask, go get my dry cleaning. This crap has no place in an ARPG. It is useless filler created by the same creatively bankrupt people mentioned above.

No new classes: If this isn't proof of the lack of creativity the D4 team possess, then I don't know what is. They couldn't even be bothered to create a new class. They literally ripped the classes from D2, renamed the Assassin and called it a day. I have no clue what they worked on for all these years when all they did was copy Brevik and Co's hard work. Although, I would put every cent to my name on them selling a new class.

In short, I hate this game. I really, really hate it. It's the kind of game that comes out an makes me question gaming as a hobby all together. This game is a store first and a playable game 126th.

TLDR: Why are you here if you don't want to read?

Follow this with a patch on 7/18 that essentially cut player power in half across the board and my interest in the game has completely fallen. It seems obvious they are making decisions based on numbers alone without any insight to the game they are working on. Not to mention all of the changes reek of forcing players to take longer to get to a non-existent end game.

The whole game is truly an Activision masterpiece - as in a flaming ball of soon to be garbage.

    Hardcore is barely playable.

Why aspects are not tradeable or saved in the codex for future use? I don't get it. Having super rare unique items where it is more likely to win the lottery than to find one of these is just sad.

Making us grind renown every season is just bad, stupid and boring. If they need to do that, just switch lvl 5 with lvl 4.

S1 new mechanic is ok but again at certain point boring.

The devs decided that the players were having too much fun and the only way to stop that was to do the following:
Globally nerf Cooldown reduction so that it takes longer before anything happens on your screen
Globally nerf defenses so that the monsters that were 1 shotting you now 1 shot you earlier
Globally nerf sustain so that you become more reliant on hp pots when the classes were designed originally around having that sustain
Globally nerf defensive skills that break you out of CC because peak gameplay is being frozen, stunned, feared, and dazed permanently until you die in diablo 4.
Globally nerf damage output on all classes across the board because there is no actual end game content so they needed to slow players down before they reach the non-existent end game.

Oh and if you love Sorc, jokes on you, the class may as well not exist. It was the worst class by far before season 1 patch and then was nerfed further. At this point it almost seems purposeful to ensure this dev team **** on sorc players as much as possible. If you want to play sorc, go necro. Simple as that.

    The bad:

    -Very low enemy density
-Dungeon mechanics designed to make you backtrack through them.
-generator/spender skill system in which the generators are incredibly weak and lackluster requiring 5 wet noodle attacks to do use 1 spender skill, similar to being level 6 in diablo 2, using normal attack because you are out of mana constantly.
-Very zoomed in camera that cannot be changed even though a camera with a more relaxed zoom exists when you use the mount.
-Leveling is a slog, similar to level 90+ in diablo 2, but every level, just a very even walk through a swamp of molasses.
-Very limited mobility in general, hard to get faster run walk affixes on items.
-Endless interruptions on gameplay to slow you down, barricades in roads so you have to dismount, and then a cooldown so you cannot just remount, etc.
-Most items are very weak upgrades of whatever you had before, endless yellow pant comparison simulator.
-Legendaries are not exiting to get, never did i get an item and feel the immediately thrill of a great find.
-Uniques do not appear until the 3rd difficulty, they are rare, and most are not particularly useful.
-Constant crowd control from the enemies will leave you stuck in place and killed constantly in higher difficulties, no way to escape being frozen, webbed, etc for 10 secs or more.
-lack of character model options for all characters, if you want to make a fat necro, you cant.
-purposely annoying town layout, be ready to walk a lot to go from one shop to the next, only to be stopped by hard to see walls, etc.

    The good:
-The campaign is the best so far in the diablo series, some poor writing towards the end though.
-Great cgi movies, but only 2 of them.

    ----------------

Since launch the developers have continued to make the game slower in general, increasing time to use scrolls, effectively incresing cooldown times, etc.

It seems they want to increase total played hours per month, and not increase the fun one gets from the game.

Imagine having a gaming franchise that's 26 years old(1997 Diablo 1) and yet having no clue how to make a decent game anymore! If you had any standards you would NOT rate this game higher than a 5. The Diablo games should be held to the highest possible standard.

Players grumbled here and there about quality of life and inter- and intra- class balance, but we thought the game was mostly there. There was always a small minority of people that claimed that the game had a serious endgame problem, in that there wasn’t one. Most just shrugged them off, thinking “of course you’re going to get bored if you hit endgame in one week.”

However, as more and more people reached the endgame, we realized that there definitely was a problem. Player power spikes three times in the entire game. The first, getting all ancestral gear and imprinting good aspects, is easy to get and gives the most power. The second, finding good/max rolls on random yellows, offers a disproportionately small power boost for how long it takes. The final power spike, getting ultra rare legendaries, is more likely to happen than being struck by lightning. Not to mention that, as you grind and level up, you become relatively weaker thanks to the level scaling. It’s a very offputting concoction of demotivation to play. Still, we had hope! The community had been talking and talking about potential ways to improve the endgame loop, and we all eagerly waited for the 1.1 patch. And then it came. Blizzard’s solution to the endgame problem was not to improve the endgame, but to slow down the entire game. Longer cooldowns and less damage all around. With this patch, Blizzard doubles down on keeping players playing not through excitement, but instead through tedium.

    Thanks for nothing Blizzard.

I played Diablo 2 for a decade, and what kept me playing for so long, after so many years without any new content was how much fun it was to explore new builds, and treasurer hunt. Second to this was the fun in trading rare drops to rapidly gear other characters and explore those builds across different characters. Third was the experience of joining games and helping other players.

I play the sorcerer and my experience has been that the way Diablo 4 is designed makes me feel like none of those things are an option. Character builds are restrictive, trading doesn't exist, and the treasurer hunt doesn't exist.

I'll elaborate on that build restriction and the treasurer hunt. Items and damage output scale incredibly linearly in the game. There's never a massive damage increase for finding a rare unique, because they simply don't exist. Everything is frustratingly incremental.

This is further exacerbated by how much spell damage is tied to items. In diablo 2 you could increase your damage by investing points heavily into skills. You could diversify your play style on your own terms. Items served as a way of intensifying those choices.

Diablo 4 requires that in order to diversify your play style you must first "unlock" the right to do it by finding the right aspects at the right quality, which depending on how often you play may never happen.

You can't run a build at an un optimal damage output or at a trade off such as defense. This is again exacerbated by how the game forces the sorcerer to play in melee range to maximize damage output because of the reliance on the vulnerability mechanic that is hard signed to the Frost Nova skill. This is a double dip on skill selection. You cannot run a build with out vulnerability, and you cannot ignore defensive stats in favor of a glass cannon play style because of it. So you are forced to use skill slots on even more defensive skills to push through even the mid game. As so much damage output potential is tied to defensive ability, but at the cost of build diversity.

All this would be fine if you could more easily boost your damage potential to mitigated the defensive requirements. Which leads me back to why the treasurer hunt is so boring. You don't find much that will rapidly boost your damage potential. It's all incremental and quite frankly boring. The treasurer hunt doesn't exist not because things don't drop, but when they do it is almost meaningless. You just barely stay ahead of the curve through the entire game. Not only that, but you constantly have to swap gear out for marginally better equipment which becomes annoying and tedious.

You don't enhance your build with items, you look for items to even begin to see a build. And then when you find items, you maybe be SOL if you find something with the right stats, but the wrong aspect. So now you have to grind to find the right aspect to imprint on the item that has the optimal stats and that new item with the optimal stats just sits there unusable until you do.

Talk about taking the wind out of your sails.

I don't think there's anything that can save this game for me. I think the fundamental design is broken.

With the recent 1.1 patch, blizzard has made it very clear that they are either completely out of touch with their player base or that they just don't care. They made promises that they didn't keep and in some cases did went in the opposite direction with the game design.

The way the game has been handled by blizzard since the release has been messy at best. Continuous nerfs to various abilities and farming methods was very frustrating, though some things legitimately needed to be hotfixed, but the latest patch not fixing ANY of the numerous core issues plaguing the game and instead instating even more nerfs is extremely confusing.

Who ever is making decisions about patch priorities should be reassessed. We (mostly) tend to play video games to have fun and the long list of hotfixes and this recent patch have active removed this element from the game. Why would anyone play something that is no longer fun?

Server Lag is horrible. There is a known memory leak that still remains unfixed that causes frequent game crashes. The effectiveness of many builds were destroyed and there is no compensation for all the players that now have to reassess and rebuild their characters since the issue of respeccing/ cost is still unaddressed.

There is much more that can be discussed but it seems to fall on deaf ears with blizzard.

TLDR; I do not recommend this game in its current state. The ratio of enjoyment to frustration is too high.

I have no idea what this game is trying to be. Never in my life have I seen a worse patch. Not only that, but releasing a patch like this before the most important (first) season of your new video game is incredibly stupid. None of the issues that people have talked about were fixed or changed. Nothing about stash tabs, the bad itemization, overly expensive build respec costs (and how long it takes to respec), item reroll cost, buffing weak builds like whirwlnd in higher tiers or the terrible necro summoner. Just a patch about nerfing the entire game before the season, when it was already boring to begin with.

For now I'll not participate in this game but will keep an eye on the news to see if they change it for the better. Blizzard does not respect your time. It's best if I don't log in because that's the only metric they understand.

And then, I caved. A couple of my kids picked up D4 and had some amazing things to say. It had been two years since I'd even opened Battle.net. But, I went for it. And, to my surprise, while things were not perfect, I loved it! The graphics, the story, the attention to small details, most of it was truly amazing. And, it seemed as though the development team was listening to the users about the issues and future directions that would make the game more fun.

How wrong I was. Nothing has changed. This Blizzard is not, and never will be, the Blizzard that understands its gaming audience and seeks to make the best game it can. This Blizzard, rather, is the one that wants to find every possible way to squeeze every penny it can from it's "asset". They've clearly adopted a profit-over-player mentality. If you're wondering what all the fuss is about, here's the scoop. Blizzard released the game with what they felt was too much power in the hands of the players. Their content was being conquered too easily for their liking.

The appropriate way to fix this? CREATE NEW, MORE CHALLENGING CONTENT.

This could have kept the players engaged and been a huge win. Add another tier of content, or another chapter to the campaign. Create a more challenging pile of content for those players creating the great builds. Hell, I realize this is a lot of work, so in the interim, just toss in a couple new seriously difficult bosses for players to work toward conquering. Just give us new challenges. But instead, Blizzard decided the best thing was to take away our toys and tools for meeting these challenges.

Blizzard's response was a massive nerf across the board of player power. No content actually changed. Nothing was added to make the game more enjoyable, more engaging. But power was nerfed, speed of progression was nerfed, speed of acquiring gear was nerfed. So, the same exact content, but now all the builds people had been working toward, milestones they'd achieved, were all set back, and everything was made more work, more difficult.

Just, wow. How a game developer could be SO out of touch with it's players is just unreal. The real Blizzard is dead, so I'm going to retire my Battle.net client once and for all.

As is, the game is really a zero, but I'm giving 2/10 because I honestly truly enjoyed the campaign and the state of the game before the patch. I was leveling, enjoying reaching milestones in the build I was creating. And then, BAM. It's like I was set back from 80 to 50, even though my character was still level 80. And now getting back to the same level wasn't even possible, and working toward getting as close as possible would take much, much longer. No thanks. I play games to have fun, a privilege for which I'd happily pay. But Blizzard thinks they need to hold my attention by just making everything I do take longer. Yeah, no. Bye.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
