After 20h you realise you have seen everything in the game. The map is big and there are many dungeons, but they are just reskins of the same 5 dungeons. The enemy variety also ends quickly. As you grow, you find that enemies scale with you, so you get weaker and weaker and you level up, only having the upper hand on some level up capstones. Same with items. The vast majority of item effects are just stat changes, very few have interesting effects that change how you play. And if you find something you like, there is a 50/50 that is a non viable build that you wouldn't know is horrible until you search for guides. Not to mention some classes are vastly weaker than others.
End game is grindy in a bad way, easily making it boring and not worth after the story is done. Side question are repeated over and over, same for dungeons and end game events.
Add that to the new Season 1, in which everything was nerfed to make it grindier and make players weaker, just signs for a continuation of a bad gameplay.
if you love Diablo, you'll take 20 or 30 hours of fun out it. Otherwise, not worth the AAA price tag

Instead of fixing bugs and problems that were known, and instead of prioritizing implementing HIGHLY requested features, the developers chose to go the complete opposite route and just unload a massive, steamy dump all over the game and making everything more inconvenient and grindy for what can only be interpreted as a "we see you're having fun here, it'd be a terrible shame if..". Their faces during the last developer live-stream (campfire, as they call it) said it all. I WISH I could be the fly on the wall come the time the developers have to defend these decisions to their higher-ups, and explain why suddenly it's one of the lowest rated games in recent times (which is an accomplishment, given all the aweful releases in 2023) and why there's a mass-exodus of players. Save your money, buy the good Diablo on the battle-net launcher instead (D2R) and enjoy hours upon hours of fun. Expand

Diablo III was a let down from previous versions with the "always on" requirement. IV goes a step further by introducing dev ego patches. I will pass over the latest patch once a battle pass because there are no words for it, how you can make a SLOW RPG from the ARPG genre. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game needed a minimum of 1 to 2 years of development. Buyer beware this is not a completed title.

There is no end game content, you spam dungeons over and over and over. The games overall balancing is not very good, many mechanics will one shot kill you.

Blizzard likely rushed this game due to poor world of warcraft dragon flight sales.

I've been playing Diablo since D1. It has always been a smash and grab game with high intensity. D4 is none of that. Blizzard has released another barely beta ready product as a cash grab.

In the open world you've been given a horse to ride about, but it is so buggy and janky you'd rather walk. The mob count is so sparse and objectives are so spread out that stopping to kill trash packs on the way is such a time sink it seems pointless. Then if you do stop and kill mobs the items and gold dropped are more like clutter than anything. Most of the time I don't bother picking up the items or the gold. Not picking up gold in a video game? That should be enough of a design flaw to get anyone's attention.

Everything in the game scales with your level. Killing a mob at level 1 feels the same at level 50. You don't feel stronger. The cost of items at the vendor scale too with everything being just out of your price range with the gold in your bags until you have gear that is so much better you would never use the vendor. So, why have one selling me blue items I'll never want?

The dungeons are empty. You can walk about for literally a minute and not encounter anything. Then when you do find something it's like 6 mobs. Then your resources all drain before you find the next tiny pack.

The dungeons are also insanely repetitive in both map design and objectives. I just completed 4 of the exact same instance. Same map, same mobs, same objective. Not the same dungeon 4 times but 4 different ones that ended up being exactly the same. The objectives are really frustrating. Normally you're picking up an item or using a lever as far East as possible then the next one is as far West as possible then returning to the middle to a barrier that has dropped. Pray there aren't 3 or more objectives blocking your progress or you will be running in circles backtracking over empty areas that you've previously cleared. Sound fun to run for minutes through an empty dungeon over and over and over? I don't think anyone that makes the game plays the game.

All the running about just feels pointless. You're looking for demons and can't find them. And when you do, you don't care because they don't drop much of anything. It all feels like the game is set up just to keep you logged in and inflate their engagement metrics.

They also implemented some hot garbage called renown from World of Warcraft. It is reputation with minor rewards with each zone in the game. Apparently, you need to re-grind it every season. Hard, 100% pass. This alone is why I won't be playing any more. Zero interest in re-doing the same boring content repeatedly. I'm here to save the world and kill demons not re-activate the town portals.

The last unforgivable transgression is the 'battle pass". I'm a sucker and purchased the pre-sale of the game and forgot it had one month's free battle pass. I was drilling in the menus for season one to see how much it cost and what the rewards would be. The game automatically cashed in my freebie with no confirmation. Thankfully it was free as I would have been furious to purchase an actual battle pass. It comes with nearly nothing. Some crappy "transmogs" and a mount I'll never use. It further insults your intelligence and wallet by giving you some in game currency. Is it platinum? Who cares what it is called as they give you less than the amount to purchase the cheapest item in the in-game store.

One of Diablo's core tenants has been hardcore. I wouldn't bother much unless you are a true die hard. They seem to be trying to make the game an MMO and the loading between zones will lag out for several seconds just moving about on a solid internet connection. Enough time to get gibbed by some trash for sure. There is no reason hard core players shouldn't be able to play in an offline mode.

There is no in-game communication to speak of. No global channel. Very hard to find new friends. There is a clunky interact menu to wave at people or inspect their gear. And there is a guild finder, but the few times I checked it there weren't many offerings.

With all that negativity there are also some great points. The campaign is fantastic with the exception of the minority 'girl power' forced narrative. The art, video and sound work are all outstanding. The cut scenes are great and smashing a mob into 1000 bits feels immersive with deep crushing sounds. The implementation of the Butcher is awesome!

Unless you just have to play now with your friends, i'd wait and buy it on sale. The campaign is worth the price of a movie ticket, but not $70. Maybe they will fix some of the systems, but i doubt it based on their track record.

The developers are clearly out of touch with the community by delivering nerfs no one asked for and promising future buffs that will make it better. How is it possible to have gone through all this in D3 to not have learned a single lesson? and worse to repeat the very same mistakes again! I give up, you win Blizzard, but you will never get my money again, I'm done, GG WP.

Game is shallow, more design and care put into aesthetic skin items that are sold via a in-game store rather then functionalities and game mechanics... we have given the developer plenty of feedback about what needs to be changed, and they constantly fail to act on jf.

Maybe I'll return to the game in a year or two and things will be different but in its current state the game is just bad.

Despite the graphics and mechanics being ok, their isn't much to do with them. Once you finish the campaign and get the mount, You tend to ride past the areas you'd have to fight to go through which makes the open world useless. You can't raid dungeons overpowered and clear them fast because of the leveling. It would take quite some time to clear them all. The HT and NM are ok but they get old fast. The season pass is a cash grab to sell you gear they should have put in a game people paid $70 - $100 for. The season patch took the wind out of my sails. If you read the SEC filings for Activision-Blizzard, they elaborate in great detail about soaring profits due to player investment in games and how to increase revenue even further. Don't mind working people getting paid but last time I checked Blizzard doesn't even pay their employees well. What the hell are they doing with all the money? Pay the workers good money to make good games and take the business staff to devils island and let them fend for themselves. If Blizzard ran Pac Man, they'd charge you for every dot you ate. Not a review bomber over the patch. I don't care about the patch because honestly I haven't been able to muster up the interest or energy to force myself to play long enough to reach high enough level for it to matter.

After the streamlined arcade game that was Diablo 3, Diablo 4 is an improvement. However, it's only that; an improvement over Diablo 3. Anyone who was looking for some manner of return to D1/D2, even in a small way, is going to be massively disappointed.

Virtually no D1/D2 gameplay elements make a comeback here. Instead, the mistakes made with D3 are mostly fixed or otherwise improved. As such, there's no identifying items, no scrolls of town portal, it's free and unlimited instead, no stat leveling, no weapons for everyone.

Combat is more varied now, as there's actually a use for more types of attacks and spells rather than havin to rely only on splash damage attacks to deal with the endless swarms like D3. There's still no real Attack button so your Sorcerers and Necromancers still can't use swords and spears and shields, but at the very least they actually hold their equipped weapons when performing their skills/spells, instead of havin them disappear like in D3.

The D3 "Infinite Potion" system is back, although at the very least they make it so that health pickups do not automatically heal you but give you "potions", of which you can hold 4-5 charges to heal when you need. If you run out of potion charges, you can't heal. It's a rather clumsy attempt to be more like D1/D2 without abandoning the streamlining of D3.

Unfortunately it seems they either ran out of ideas with the skills or ran out of time to make them feel particularly different. Worst offender I can see thus far is the Necromancer havin many different selectable skills that all basically amount to "Hold out hand and a colorful wave flies at enemy, damage is done".

The Sorcerer/Sorceress has the best skills, with plenty of variety and some D2-era skills returning to flesh it all out properly. Others unfortunately are severely lacking. The Barbarian is just boring, with only 3 shouts and a sequence of generic attacks that mostly amount to "swing weapon in a slightly different way". And they don't even get to use shields.

The Druid as well feels like it was the primary victim of the "ran out of time" hypothesis. Basically, there is no "transform" option for the Druid. Instead, you get a skill that is assigned to Wolf or Bear, and when you use it, you instantly transform into a Wolf or Bear. Then as soon as you use a different skill, you will instantly transform back human. Not only does this look underwhelming but it means you can't mix up skills, or do things like summon or command creatures while in Wolf/Bear form.

The game world itself, so far, has been very underwhelming. There is no more Act system; instead it's one big world, like an MMORPG. You also see other players wandering around at the same time as you, like an MMORPG. They can join in your battles or clog up the merchant's doorways with their 30 skeleton minions. There's also a ton of quests you can track at any time in a list, like an MMORPG. There's also no way of keeping track of completed quests, you can't coordinate sidequests with parties, and oftentimes you will end up with party members missing out on cutscenes or dialogue due to them being out of place. Some reviews I've seen have said you basically need a "designated clicker" because of this idiocy.

tl;dr, the more time I put into Diablo 4, the more miserable the experience gets. Each class has so few actual skills to play with that I'm switching out classes whenever I get bored and thus basically repeating all the starter quests.

By level 25, you've unlocked every possible skill, so all the skill points just go into "make it slightly stronger" or "add some mediocre little buff" for min-max play. There's no sense of POWER in any magic items like in D1/D2; unique items offer boosts like "+2% to Close Attack when Barrier is active" or "+4% to critical with each Core skill hit on a Stunned enemy"

None of that means anything to me. D2 items had things like "Ignore enemy armor", "+50 to strength", "Half poison duration", "50 charges of lvl 20 Teleport". Actual visible benefits.

I've been playing D3 and D2R leading up to D4's release. I finished D3 and put it away. It was fun the first time, but had 0 replayability. D2R I started about a month before D4 came out.

Now almost 2 months after D4 has come out, for every 1 hour I put into D4, I find myself putting 2 hours into D2R, and enjoying it much more.

Diablo 2 Resurrected just has more to offer than Diablo 4 in almost every way. Bigger and more interesting maps, more skills, more items and weapons, more interesting story, no long boring in-game cutscenes, and just a better, more fun experience overall.

I suggest no one buys any cosmetics or passes until we see rich content and features added. Reskinning dungeons is not enough. Just because it was done in the past and worked, doesn't mean it's the winning formula for the future. They spent maybe 50 million on worldwide advertisement when the game was basically selling itself. If they just spent half of that on a massive development team, they would be making even more money on cosmetics right now!!!!! Such a shame....

The game deserves a slightly better score but hopefully these ratings will pressure them to fix things sooner.

This game was very clearly made to be a p2w cash grab in the vein of Diablo Immortal, but after customer backlash changed this game's destiny, it slowly developed into the worst of both worlds - all of the grindy awful gameplay to push a player to a pay to win cash shop mixed with an arrogant design team that both doesn't understand their own game math and also doesn't understand what their customers want.

This game should have and could have been Blizzard's saving grace - but clearly, it falls far short of the mark - and it's not the art, the visual style, or the sound - it's the game developers and their lack of ability or care to create something great shining through.

Do yourself a favor - skip this game. Go play literally anything else. This game is the definition of "Not worth $70".

I love the Diablo games . D2 was the top 20 years ago and it still is , but the reason I am no longer playing it is just because I have had enough. I have all d2r , d3 and d4 games and have countless hours put into them . Ever since the review on blizzcon 2019 I was hyped and excited about Diablo 4. However I was not expecting them to release the game so soon and obviously was a mistake. II love the Diablo games . I have made necro , rogue and 2 sorc characters . It is enjoyable to some extend but when you have to beat the glitches and struggle throughout the entire process of building your sorc character , it gets pretty annoying and not enjoyable and this is the main reason this game sucks . It was not ready for a release and if they expect us to waste our time testing their unfinished product they are wrong. I will no longer participate in this alpha testing ridiculousness . I might come back to the game in a few years if the Diablo 4 managers and developers get through their heads how to build a successful game and community around it.
P.S I really want to play the game , but in this condition it gets me angry and frustrated , so I bette quit . That's it

Blizzard have another plans such as not adding a new end-game content on the other hand making very hard to get end-game by nerfing leveling, increasing cooldowns, nerfing classes that are already nerfed, long story short, increasing damage taken and decreasing damage given etc.
They think that the people who play this game is not gonna give up when they came out with such a brilliant plan, but you know they are wrong. As you can see this section that made players crazy. They apologized afterwards and they promised they gonna release a patch that fixes all problems. You can guess the patch released after that promise.
I'm not gonna play this game until I see some proof that Blizzard cares about players.

It is a terrible game at the price of 70EUR, even though I bought it at 99EUR for the Ultimate version.
Only the good points are the cutscenes, they are very well-produced.
The rests of the game are trash. Blizzard tried to get money from players quickly and in exchange, they released a game at the beta stage. The game is super boring. You will not know what to do next and next.

Some legendary items with too long, conditional, and hard-to-understanding affixes make you confused about how they work. For their Key Indicator Performances, they make the game become super slow and a waste of players' time: many backtracking, running through empty maps, and increasing time for leaving dungeons, ... The game has turned into a tedious chore. There is no fun for all-time-running out of resources to cast core skill, the countdown is super long and the only way is to wait.

New aspects that do nothing because they are bugged

I really don't understand the Devs playing with numbers that work trying to find a balance and change the feel of the game - When simple major game mechanics like resistance don't even work. Its a waste of time trying to balance players when major mechanics don't even apply correctly in the first place. Why even have a seasons journey when most the hearts they introduced were bugged and don't work correctly.

Diablo 4 is good to play once for the campaign. There's no denying the great visuals, animations, and a tiny handful of decent cutscenes. But that's about where the positives end. And that's about where your gameplay should end too. For that experience, I'd spend $40.

The other $30 is like forcing you to pay for a game pass on the hope that they will eventually release decent content in the future. That's shady practice and I'd rather have it as a side DLC when it does come out. As it stands today, the endgame is an absolute joke. Lazy content, broken promises, bad balancing, and out of touch devs. Not all builds feel good and you really don't have a lot of customization. Items are extremely boring and drops don't feel good. Lack of quality of life.

Everything about the endgame is a terrible mess, but the endgame is what makes an ARPG worth it. Pass on this one. Don't even think about it.

After playing for 100+ hours on and off season, I can confidently say this game is an absolute turd. The game is so bad in fact that this will be my first time making an account purely for the sake of writing a review.

Every patch is released with the intent of heavily decreasing player power, dragging the game out, or both. Players are banned every day for unknowingly trading with bot-farmed gold or outright just for trading between friends. This latest patch disabled trading altogether, because they can't do anything right. The game barely functions, the business practices of Activision Blizzard are egregiously predatory, and it's not even fun when the game does work.

After the campaign, the game becomes a grueling and ceaseless grind to get 1% stronger via paragon levels, min maxing, and micromanaging gear aspects and stats. Classes like Druid have 75% of the late game builds gated behind unique items that have a good chance of not even dropping by level 100. The world mob levels don't even scale up after level 75, so Nightmare Dungeons are the only viable content in the game at that point.

At the start of the season, the journey menu would automatically hover the button to activate the accelerated battle pass, and there wasn't even a confirmation dialogue if you accidentally clicked it. You can't try to say that a company with over 30 years of game development experience made a mistake with that. It's moronic at best and intentionally scummy at worst. On top of all that, the battle pass doesn't even give you enough in game currency to buy the next battle pass. What kind of joke is that? If you bought this battle pass and the next one, then used your platinum from those for the 3rd, you would still be 2 plat short for the 4th. And the cherry on top of this turd sundae is the MTX shop.

The best "prestige" skins are on par with the base cosmetics in the game, while the worst aren't even worth looking at. It costs $25 for one set of cosmetics for one class that has a good chance of getting nerfed into the ground in the next patch, and that doesn't even include the "accessories" they try to pedal alongside it. What a joke. You'd be better off spending that money on a strong magnet to fry your old hard drive with.

TL;DR This game is a grueling chore that you pay no less than $70 for the privilege of doing, and the worst part is these greedy scumbags can get away with all of it. Instead of buying this turd, you should buy Risk of Rain 2 for you and two friends. You'll be much happier for it.

Set items don't seem to be a thing at all... and with the game scaling to your level, you never feel like you're actually growing in power. There seems to only be about 20 monsters and the bosses are non-memorable. There's no Diablo at all!!! So how they call this "Diablo 4" is beyond me. The open-world feel is a cool idea, but what it actually does is confuse you as to where in the game you actually are. Honestly, the side quests are more interesting than the story ones. Feels like I may have wasted a bunch of money on this one, but at least I only bought the standard version. It's back to D3 for me. If they close it down then I'll be deleting battlenet altogether. - There are also many things that seem specifically designed to just keep you in the game longer, like the placement of various important NPCs and events. Walking simulator galore.
    - And don't get me started on the monetization. In a game that already costs a mind-boggling $70 upfront, to have this level of monetization should be criminalized.
    - The two things this game delivers upon are music and art. Not much else, unfortunately.

Don't waste your money and your time. Wait until the game is at least half the price and enough time has passed for it to have maybe left early access. Maybe. Other than that, Activision Blizzard have delivered yet another massive disappointment.

My sentiments toward the pricing of the store skins are in stark contrast as well. While I've willingly invested in microtransactions before, the cost of these skins feels exorbitant. A single skin costs as much as a significant portion of the base game? It's truly perplexing!

Comparatively, my recent experience with Path of Exile (POE) has been far more immersive and captivating. I'm inclined to transition to POE2 upon its release and observe how Diablo IV evolves after a couple of seasons.

It seems as though Diablo IV was hastily pushed to market, possibly to secure a player base before the launch of POE2. This rush is palpable and has likely impacted the game's overall quality and experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Positive: Story and artwork are good. Negative: Compared to D3 where set items, TONS of legendaries with interesting affixes and legendary gems existed and acquiring/optimizing them was a real motivation for playing, D4 lost set items & legendary gems and there are only ~10 uniques per class and therefore place you in a position where you're constantly checking every rare to see if it's worthy of copying a saved affix to, usually to get a tiny improvement. Even more glaring is the lack of social interaction - you basically play by yourself 95% of the time, in D3 you could meet and do rifts together easily, in D4 I think social interaction was put on the backburner - a player lobby might be a good idea. My impression is that D3 had more monster variety than D4 - I feel like I'm always fighting enemies that have the same offensive skills. Expand

Campaign is good but the game offers nothing in end game and takes too long to level up character in the higher levels. It has no replayability value. It asks for mindless grinding with nothing but a broken 1 hit boss fight at the end for which skills or stats don't matter. All that

Graphics are awesome and story is ok but this pretty much it. Blizzard failed Diablo 4 with poor itemnisation (supposed to be the MAIN part of this game) with careless drops and over complicated item random stats. Started to get bored at level 60 and gave up around level 70.

    - No set items
    - absolutely zero social aspect
    - Useless and forgettable legendary items

The game is about hunting items and killing tough demonic monsters that potentially would make your character powerful rich and respected.

The game is an empty map.

The best part is that after 1.5 month of release of the game they added a bug where when you teleport you get disconnected, and inside activision forums they blame customers network while this has nothing to do with the customer's network.

Overall this is an empty map without anything implemented inside, it is literally not even playable because of the teleport bug you get returned to main menu with a disconnected message. If you do not teleport you will not disconnect but that means you will have to really travel long distances taking even like 20 minutes of your time.

After 3 months of release at the cost of 70 euro without anything implemented or working they announced a yearly paid expansion while the game is filled daily with new microtransactions.

This game does not even work right now you will get disconnected on teleport.

    You have been warned.

This game is a poor mans Path of Exile and borderline an insult to the ARPG genre.
All Blizzard had to do, was take the best part of D2, the best parts of D3 and build upon that. Instead we get this. Its a decent game for about 50 hours, then you realise it has no soul, no inspiration.
The loot system is ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS as well.

Then they dropped the new update, which doubled or tripled down on these same values to make the game an entirely longer and less fun slog. GRIFTS used to be super fun to push in Diablo 3, but whoever is the guy making these design changes at the top is an absolute know who probably is known as "a numbers guy" and knows next to nothing about making a game fun and rewarding. I have never in my entire life been so disappointed in a Diablo game, and I have played them all since the original Diablo. The only reason I gave this a 1 is because the artwork and world are beautiful. I feel bad for the artist who made such an awesome world to play in, that is entirely ruined by game design.

Shame on you Blizzard for this patch, you used to be an amazing game company, but sexual harassment, OW2, and Diablo 4 have shown me just how far you have fallen.

Lack of meaningfull drop (Uber legendary are for hardcore gamer only).
Lack of boss (only 12 bosses for 100+ dungeon).
Lack of build diversity, you have to respec to meta build to push (11 millions gold per total respec)

And the BEST is season one patch : Nerf Nerf Nerf to the ground.

My main character I spend 250h in is now demolished, after reading patch I do not see how I can play a decent sorceress.

They nerfed XP per monster, they put limit to reach T3 T4 world tier (lvl 50/70). They overall buffed monster and nerfed player for one only purpose : hide the lack of content and slow down XP process to hide the fact that there is not enough content for a 3 months season.

I am considering to extend my pause and may be to skip season one.

Game launched in clear bare bones - as if content was deliberately cut from the game to most likely launch it later on on "season"

Post launch patches/content is no existent so far. Game is plagued with issues and patches had made the game less fun and more tedious.

The base game is good. But thats it - the fundation - everything else is either missing or very lacking for a 70-100€ game.
