Don't listen to the Poor's review bombing. The game is fine and there was one day with questionable logins. They have nothing better to do than complain while the rest of us enjoy the game.

I've has no server errors/kicks/crashes, or queues longer than 5 minutes (one time). In an age where dev release broken, buggy technical messes, this has been a prime example of how to properly do it. Of course there is tons of room for improvements, but this is a SOLID foundation on which to start Expand

People were talking this is a GOTY of 2023 which makes me laugh out loud, compare to Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, this Diablo 4 is boring as ****
I am a 20 year Diablo 2 player, but I think this Diablo IV is really disappointing.

These are just SOME of the glaring issues in the game.

Too streamlined for consoles. No customization really between characters, can respec at any time to match loot, so there's really no reason to role play or try and play a certain way with a character.

Defeating instances or big monsters on maps drop cartoonishly large chests that loot box "explode" when you click them sending gold out randomly and rare items. Loot drop experience feels like junk and breaks immersion.

Sellers in towns only sell like 3 items and you have to wait an hour of in game time to get new items, or go out and loot where there's other players randomly in your game and they're level 36 and you're in a level 6 area. Why is this only online and forced multiplayer? BTW Server issues kick you out and throw you into a queue to join back into the game, only to get to the top of the queue and be dropped for server error ###### aka, the server is down.. uh just tell me the server is down so I don't wait 5 minutes in a queue to learn what should have been told to me when I got booted from the game in the first place.

It feels like I'm playing a mobile game made for a younger audience, despite the 4+ minute cutscenes which are far too frequent and eye-rollingly cliche. Paraphrasing (almost exact):
Bad dude, "They've been corrupted, mother."
Lillith, "soon they will all fall under my spell."
    Bad dude, creepily, "yes mother..."
    ugh..

Oh and if you play necromancer, the first skill you take overrides your left click so you can never basic melee attack ever again. Even if you resbind the skill to right click later, your left click stays empty and you can no longer attack. I thought I was stupid and couldn't find the rebind button in the options. Googled it and a reddit post shows up from the open Beta, "Warning if you play necromancer, you can't attack with melee." Still not fixed 2 months after they fully released the game for $70?? My dude is literally holding a dagger with a special effect, but I can't use it. wth??

Don't even get me started on the complete lack of skills/spells that matter in each skill "tree" (which is just a straight path now, no multiple tabs or play styles), you're basically thrown into a cookie cutter character that would play well on a controller, post-lobotomy.

This game costs too much when it has clear design flaws and blatant errors, "always online" that you can't connect to, an oversimplified experience playing generic character #3 of 5, and a story that made me eye roll more than a few times.

I really wanted to like this game, I was willing to over look a lot, but I can't even connect to play the game, and when I do get to play, I can't even swing my weapon. I thought they learned their lesson on D3? 1.9/10.

Pretty much a mediocre ARPG. Would be 6-7 if it didn't cost $90.

    Some reasons are: - Boring itemization - stack crit chance, crit damage, and vuln damage; - Lack of build diversity - 2-3 builds for a class. Even less if you're a sorcerer; - The endgame loop is far beyond boring - I can't describe it in words but while playing this game between monster packs I felt utterly frustrated;

I have expected nothing from this game as I do not really trust modern Blizzard and this game got me kind of catfished. It is good enough to make me care, but only to disappoint me later.

The packaging is great, skills fills fluid, game is gorgeous and its fun to kill mobs and progress early on. It works great for first 10 hours, but later all the glaring design problems start to drop on you, of which there are:
    1) Loot is boring.
Imagine playing a diablo game where you don't care about loot. It's so boring, that you don't want to look at it, because mods are just not interesting, there are a lot of trash and uninteresting mods, 50 damage mods which are moderately useless because they are additive with each other, resistance mods which are completely useless, because they tried to innovate and ruined a good working 'capped resistance' system into something that makes resistance a bad mod. Not a single unique can drop for first 50 levels, there are no 'thought-inspiring' items that make me go "Huh, I wonder if I can make a build around it". More than that, the loot is "tailored" for the class you play, so you never loot something that makes you "I want to roll a barb with this" or "I want to give it to my necro friend". Even if you could, the trading is SEVERELY limited and might as well not exist. Gems are a complete waste of space, there are no loot-filters, the stash management is HORRIBLE, only 4 tabs make management even of basic stuff like aspects/gems/sigils/potions cumbersome. The are no sets, runewords, chase items. After playing ~100 hours I have near incredible gear, which mathematically can only be improved by like 20-30% with PERFECTLY rolled stuff.
This is a game about loot and the loot is total and utter ****
    2) Class design.
I hate "core" skill mechanic. The game is designed around classes being playable with MAX ~5-7 skills, of which realistically 2-3 are even good. The passives and support skills also autopick, after you decide on the main skill. This results in zero build diversity, there is literally THE BUILD for every class and THE ALTERNATIVE BUILD. And that's that. There are 10 builds in the whole **** game. It's impossible to experiment, because there is nothing to experiment with. Aspects + passive tree give severely limited choice and pigeon-hole you into the "correct" choice.
This is a game about rolling another character and giving it a try, but it's not interesting, because no creativity is allowed.
    3) Price.
So, this is a 70$ game with a VERY PREDATORY 30$ surcharge for "early start" (which I fell for btw, but it's ok, I knew what I was doing). On top of that they also have a shop and battle passes for which they want to take money. This is not ok.

These 3 are a dealbreaker for me. The rest are a bit less of an issue, but still.

    4) Level scaling feels bad. Level up after 50 is a DROP in power most of the time. Because you barely grow in power with just 1 paragon point, but mobs grow in level and power.
Imagine dropping in power when you level up.
    5) Open-world is gimmicky, useless and feels forced.
I don't want to participate, but kind of have to because of helltide resources needed to upgrade. And I had to complete useless boring quests and go on lilith altar run just because of renown. I am here to slay big demons and get loot. Running around is **** boring. Running to dungeons to enter them feels tedious and pointless.
Imagine having to run to entrance for a minute, to then finish the dungeon in two minutes and have to run for minute to next entrance.

I have finished the story and 'trying' to progress into tier 4 ___

Every aspect of the game. Has something done to it by that makes you scratch your head that ruins it. Every aspect. Music is undetermined as it sounds great, but BGM for each zone is very short and is very loopy, you notice it very fast in the first main town and it gets annoying FAST. Especially when you get into a dungeon where there is the constant wailing and crying___

    -World Scaling-
Scaling is the worst part of the game. You never feel powerful unless you have an op cookie cutter build. The monsters feel like they get stronger faster than you do. Mob scaling should only ever be in multiplayer, but even then it should be a toggle. OR its own specific world tier aka "World Tier: Infinite"____

    -Skills / Tree-
The skill tree is a stripped twig. There barely any options and barely any skills. Zero build diversity that actually works. Some abilities .. just are not useful from level 1 and never get power or use at all (IE. incinerate)___

    -Paragon-
Feels like the main source of your power. Boring as it is just a grind of levels just to get more powerful rather then picking up a nice piece of gear. T3 felt terrible until you get past your first glyph and blue/yellow nodes. Paragon is also locked at level 50 and above so if you unlocked your 20 paragon levels they are unusable on your alt till 50.___

    -Mounts-
Cooldowns. Why? Mounts get stuck on everything, slow down if your mouse is close to your character and if you click and hold and then slide your mouse over your actions your horse will slowly stop walking even though you never let go of your mouse button.___

    -Inventory-
Inventory is small, especially for consumables and aspects. Need to highlight sigils to see what level they are when they should just be on the icon. Gems need their own tab or to not be the same size as gear. D3 inventory was better.___

    -Loot-
Loot has the worst stats to choose from. Get rid of all the 'close' 'distant' 'vulnerable' give us to normal core stats and crit. There is too much junk. These stats are boring and hard to measure on the fly with each other, especially if you are casual player. ___

    -Gearing-
It's a hassle. Legendries are not better then rares as rares can become legendaries. Therefore you need to spend too much time looking at all the rares to see if it has better stats to then go rather then being salvage fodder. You find a rare that you want to use but it sits in your stash as you don't have the legendary you want to apply it yet. You have to reroll the rare into legendary. You have to upgrade the rare/legendary. You then find something better and have to start the process all over again. Its anxiety inducing and off putting. Not to mention extremely expensive.___

    -Gold-
I have never vendored so many items in a diablo-like game before. Just to barely get gold to keep up with costs. I've had 700k gold and had a repair of 150k. You need to decide if you want to vendor your items, or salvage them.___

    -Casual-bility-
The game is very anti casual. It takes so much time to do anything if you're not op dungeons take forever. Combat takes forever. Gearing up to next world tier takes forever. A casual player that plays an hr a day will not reach the end capstone dungeon before seasons without being carried. They tried to take a system like lost ark where there's a tier you level thru to reach the next and then have to do it all over again. Rather then choosing a difficulty to match your power. Except where list ark has all new zones for the new tier d4 has nothing new except...___

    -Progression-
Gated rewards. Uniques only dropping from t3 and 4? Really? World tier 3 and 4 suck for the average player with the average build. It takes hrs upon hrs upon hrs to reach that point and then even there unique drop rates are abysmal.___

    -Alts-
The only alt friendly thing in the game is the ability to skip campaign if you cleared it, and keeping important renown rewards. Paragon is also locked at level 50 and above so if you unlocked your 20 paragon levels they are unusable on your alt till 50. But not have'n the map uncovered? Not have'n waypoints? Not have'n Lilith alter locations mapped? Once i saw this all i deleted the alt. ___

    -Dungeons-
Dungeons all have a gating system to do some random junk before you can get to the boss for the dungeon clear. Waste time to kill all enemies. Waste time to hunt down specific elites, Waste time to hunt down alters. Waste time searching for multiple items to fetch and retrieve to just open a door. All of which should be changed to non-mandatory bonus events or simply removed. We should be able to just clear our way to the boss. Its exhausting and not fun as every dungeon has one of them.___

    -Transmog-
Only get appearance on salvage. Instead of pickup.___

    -Shop-
    There is one..

Control/Gameplay: 3/10 It feels very nice to control at start, responsive and satisfying. But then you realize you just following the same rotation and hardly ever doing any decision other than positioning.
Ambience/Graphics: 7/10 A great improvement over diablo 3. But somewhat janky in regards to the character outfits... maybe 3d is not the way to go, should have a dark cartoony or voxels vibe. It can be better.
Build diversity: 3/10 There are quite a few builds, but if you wanna progress you only really have 1 to pick from. Even with group play there is in total 2 more that might be worthwhile.
Itemization: 1/10 Just not there. No feeling of "oh I got my axe", "omg amazing helm dropped", just bland stat sticks that have +x% more than previous. All those multiple conditionals give you serious irk.

Final Average Score: 3/10 PoE2 can't come soon enough. Those summer teasers + the wait for ExileCon are where i'm focusing my attention.

The long-awaited Diablo 4, last born of the license which laid the foundations of the ARPG genre is out, and after having played well, here is my opinion, which unfortunately will not be positive.

Let's start with the few positives:
    - the graphics are nice
    - animations are smooth
    -the general atmosphere is ok
    - history too, through its campaign.

But a campaign in an ARPG is a negligible point. What really interests us is the endgame, the replayability, and the variety of possible builds to optimize at best and a growing challenge. Here are the focal points of the ARPG genre.

Unfortunately, Blizzard crashes on almost all points.

The endgame: we remain unsatisfied. Few things to do apart from the dungeons (very repetitive, from the layout to the decor, including the bestiary which is not or little renewed). The bosses have basic and simplistic mechanics. Lilith, supposed to be the final boss, is a great joke that you complete in a handful of seconds, without the slightest difficulty. Which brings me to the next point.

The challenge: there is none, let's be clear. I've played for thousands of hours just about every arpg on the market since D2, and D4 is one of the easiest. I played the game completely blind with a homemade build and apart from 2 or 3 moments, everything was horribly simple from start to finish, on max world difficulty. You really have to do it on purpose or get distracted to die in this game. Without difficulty, the game just gets boring.

Replayability : very bad. Too few mechanics to deal with for more than a week, let's be honest. The next seasons have interest to be rich or the game will miss its momentum as D3. And it's not the boring spots that we usually find in MMOs that will save the day: world boss farming, renown, finding statues, useless side quests... All this has nothing to do in an ARPG , it's just sucks.

Class, build, itemization, gameplay: nothing crazy. Classes like paragons are basic. the talent trees are starving and allow very little customization, a shame for an arpg. Big problems in the itemization: a lot of useless stats and unique skills that would have been more interesting to integrate into the talent trees. Scaling (again unwelcome in an arpg) only makes the itemization even more weak.
Gameplay is very slow, artificially slowed down by unskippable dialogues and too much cooldowns. Too little density of monsters on the map to be really satisfying. Too many health potions that make fights unlosable. Too much walking and riding, the open world was perhaps not the best concept for this game. Disappointing past the first half of the game.

You will have understood: spent the first hours of discovery during the campaign to reach the endgame, the feeling of wonder gives way to boredom and repetitiveness. Little to do, fast and easily optimized builds that run smoothly over everything and...that's it?

We expected better from the creator of the genre, and that does not reassure us about the future of the game when we know the new features to come from the competition.

Blizzard will have to announce something big quickly, or the game will meet the same fate as Diablo 3.

Despite commendable graphics and cinematics, Diablo IV feels like a hollow imitation, failing to innovate and introduce captivating new mechanics. The lack of gameplay and substance, repetitive quests, and diluted skill systems contribute to a monotonous experience that pales in comparison to its predecessors. Additionally, Blizzard's sales and marketing practices, including exorbitant pricing, cast a shadow over the game's potential. Diablo IV leaves fans longing for a transformative and remarkable experience that matches the legacy of the earlier titles.

    Note breakdown:

    Story: 3/10
The story of Diablo IV receives a low rating due to its failure to capture the essence of the original Diablo games. It takes itself too seriously, abandoning the over-the-top and hilarious elements that made the earlier installments enjoyable. The attempt to incorporate deep and complex themes falls flat, resulting in a shallow and misinformed narrative.

    Dungeons: 2/10
Diablo IV's dungeons suffer from a lack of creativity and engagement. They feel arbitrary and fail to provide interesting challenges or rewards. Unlike the previous games in the series, which featured memorable and interconnected dungeon experiences, Diablo IV's dungeons feel uninspired and unremarkable.

    Graphics: 7/10
The graphics in Diablo IV are a standout aspect, receiving a relatively high rating. The game boasts visually impressive cinematics and detailed environments. While the overall art style aligns with the dark and gritty atmosphere, it lacks the distinctive visual flair that could have set it apart from its predecessors.

    Skill UI: 2/10
The skill UI in Diablo IV falls short of expectations. It lacks depth and complexity, resulting in limited choices and a lack of meaningful customization. The simplified skill system fails to offer players the opportunity to create unique and specialized character builds, diminishing the long-term appeal and replayability of the game.

    Combat: 6/10
The combat in Diablo IV receives an average rating. While it offers moments of excitement and impact, it suffers from balance issues and lacks innovation. The battles take place on a generic open-world battlefield, lacking the variety and strategic depth found in previous Diablo games. The combat experience, while enjoyable to a certain extent, fails to deliver a truly engaging and memorable experience.

    Itemization: 1/10
Diablo IV's itemization is heavily criticized, earning it a low rating. The system lacks depth and complexity, leaving players with a simple and uninteresting loot progression. The absence of significant items such as sets and runewords, coupled with a lack of reward anticipation, diminishes the sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that should come from acquiring powerful gear. This aspect severely hampers the long-term motivation to continue playing the game.

Without other people or with friends the game is really enjoyable. Of course there are some little parts where it can (and probably will) get little upgrades.

Diablo IV is just a pure pleasure, playing, grinding, looking for item upgrades just awesome. Everyone who likes good hack'n'slash games will enjoy this 'bad boy'.

Ths game is simple, but not too simple. I would say that it's perfectly balanced and both types of players, hardocore gamers and more casual ones, will enjoy playing D4.

Build diversity could be better which is why I knocked the game down to an 8, some just stand out far and wide over others. Overall I can see myself grinding for a long time. There's so many collectibles to do for renown to get more kill points and attributes. And a lot of options to play at endgame that is what you'd expect from an arpg. Expand

The reviews calling D4 a rehashed D3 are unfair.. to D3.
At this point in time D3 is just objectively the better ARPG.
That being said, the game isn't unplayable or absolutely terrible. If this was a 30$ indi studio release without a cash shop, I would give it a 5/10 rating. It's okay-ish entertainment for a few days if you really have nothing better lined up. Seeing as this is a

That being said, the game isn't unplayable or absolutely terrible. If this was a 30$ indi studio release without a cash shop, I would give it a 5/10 rating. It's okay-ish entertainment for a few days if you really have nothing better lined up.

Seeing as this is a 70$-100$ AAA game release with scummy cash grabs, an in-game cash shop and a lot of expectations and promises it can absolutely not live up to, 3/10 is a generous rating.

The story and world building of D4 are bland, uninspired and simply not crafted with care or talent.

The voice talent is clearly trying but can't manage to alleviate the bland and unlikeable characters with their performances alone.

Still, for an ARPG the story is passable -or would be, if D4 had anything else going for it.

The skill tree is pitiful and does not allow for any personal input or creativity beyond choosing one of the few builds the developers have 'pre created' for the players.

The end-game paragon board and glyph system looks more open at first glance, but if you look closer you will notice that there is still very little variation when it comes to specific builds and what variation there is is hardly meaningful.

The early to mid levels feel tedious because the trite and uninspired builder-spender game play loop is made even worse by deliberately bad builders that do no damage on their own and feel bad to use and absurdly overpriced spenders that rely on legendary aspects to do any meaningful damage.

If your build relies on a legendary aspect that can not be obtained as a dungeon aspect (and thus added to any item via a town npc after clearing said dungeon) you are at the mercy of RNG and might not get the one aspect that enables your build for many, many levels and hours.

Once you have finally assembled the basic core of your build, things don't get much better.

Now it's time to grind out (nightmare) dungeons. The team behind dungeons seems to actively hate ARPGs. At least that's the only explanation I can come up with as for why killing monsters seems to be an absolute afterthought for dungeons. Monster packs are sparse and far between and a large portion of your time in a dungeon will be spend carrying various stones, runes and keys through mostly empty dungeons to unlock doors.

Even when you're met with a door unlock requirement of 'kill all enemies' you will still spend a considerable amount of time running through empty corridors, looking for the last monster hidden away in a remote corner of the dungeon.

Design like this would be excusable if this was the very first ARPG every created but it is not excusable in 2023 with plenty of games already offering great solutions and better ways to go about this.

    Overall:
If you're just looking to slaughter some monster hordes after work, D3 will serve you better.

If you want deep and meaningful systems and a chance to get creative with characters and builds, go for Path of Exile, it doesn't even cost you a thing.

Game without Trading Option, which lowers its rating to 5. If there was trading, I would rate it between 8 and even 10, but killing trading is the worst thing AB could have done and it ruins half of the fun in the game

The game isn't perfect for sure but doesn't deserve a 0.

Pros - Difficulty is good. Never feel op like in D3. This isn't Diablo arcade mode like the previous entry. - Gorgeous graphics and locations. - Story is awesome - Skill tree and paragons requires you to think. Cons - Dungeons feels repetitive - Certains endgames activities need a buff to rewards. Whispers and helltides are fun

Overall great game deserving a 7 or 8. Trying to balance the trolls.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.
