Title: A Triumph of Dark Fantasy: Diablo 4 - an Unforgettable Dive into a Grim World

    Review:

Diablo 4 is undeniably one of the most anticipated games of the past decade, and I am thrilled to say that it lives up to all expectations. The latest chapter in Blizzard Entertainment's legendary series not only surpasses its predecessors but also sets new standards for the action RPG genre.

Right from the beginning, Diablo 4 captivates with its deep and immersive story. You find yourself in a dark fantasy world steeped in darkness and chaos, bearing witness to an epic battle between good and evil. The meticulously crafted narrative comes alive through stunning cinematic scenes and top-notch voice acting, infusing depth and emotion into the characters.

The gameplay in Diablo 4 is on a whole new level compared to previous installments. Every strike, every spell cast with smooth and realistic animations, delivers a sense of power and satisfaction. The character progression system offers a vast array of abilities and combinations, allowing players to create unique heroes that align with their playstyle.

The world of Diablo 4 breathes with life. Each location, every corner, is infused with an atmosphere of darkness and terror. The diverse landscapes and intricately detailed environments immerse you in a realm of grim fantasy, where every step can be your last.

Diablo 4's multiplayer mode offers unparalleled opportunities for collaboration and competition. You can join forces with friends to take on mighty bosses, tackle challenging dungeons, or engage in thrilling PvP battles. The seamless online integration ensures a dynamic and engaging social experience.

Visually, Diablo 4 is a feast for the eyes. The graphics are stunning, with meticulous attention to detail, realistic lighting, and breathtaking visual effects. The art direction perfectly captures the dark and gritty aesthetic of the Diablo universe, enhancing the overall immersion.

Furthermore, the soundtrack of Diablo 4 is a masterpiece in its own right. The haunting melodies and epic orchestral compositions amplify the game's atmosphere, evoking a range of emotions from awe to spine-chilling dread.

In conclusion, Diablo 4 is a triumph that exceeds expectations on all fronts. It delivers an enthralling story, engaging gameplay, and a captivating world that will keep players hooked for countless hours. With its impeccable presentation and a wealth of content, Diablo 4 is poised to become a modern classic in the action RPG genre.

The game is very good and had one of the best launches this year if not the best.
Story is good, gameplay is perfect, ITEMS are so good and there is lot of items that you can chase and a variety of builds that you can run and try.

There is some micro transactions in it but can be totally ignored since they are only cosmetics.

Overall, the game falls short in several areas, making it a disappointing experience.
The concept of level scaling is flawed, as players consistently feel weaker after leveling up unless they acquire new weapons. This undermines the sense of progression and leaves players questioning the purpose of leveling. Furthermore, the lack of mob density in the early stages of the game dampens the excitement and exploration.

Itemization is another letdown, as the focus seems to be solely on acquiring higher numerical values rather than hunting for unique and interesting items. With the existence of a global loot table, the open world becomes irrelevant, reducing the sense of exploration and variety. Additionally, as players progress through the world tiers, lower-tier items become obsolete, making their continued drop rate puzzling and frustrating.

Furthermore, the game's item progression system suffers from a lack of balance and pacing. Once players reach a higher world tier, they are suddenly flooded with higher rarity items within a matter of an hour or two. This rapid influx of powerful gear provides a quick dopamine rush, but it also diminishes the sense of meaningful item progression. The problem becomes more apparent when players remain within the same world tier for an extended period. During this time, the advancement in item quality and effectiveness becomes almost negligible. It creates a stagnant experience where the excitement of finding better gear is greatly diminished.

The skill system also suffers from imbalance and lack of coherence. While percentage damage from equipped weapons may work for certain classes like barbarians, it feels out of place for others like sorcerers. This discrepancy in skill mechanics undermines the overall cohesion and strategic depth of the gameplay.

The user interface is another weak point, with inconsistent quality. The skill tree is unreadable, impeding players from making informed decisions about character progression. Furthermore, the item description tables suffer from poor design choices, making it difficult to gather crucial information about items. The overall design and visibility issues significantly detract from the user experience.

The Paragon Board, intended to provide additional customization options, ends up feeling repetitive and lacking in diversity. The emphasis on percentage damage, resource bonuses, and generic damage increases results in different classes feeling remarkably similar, reducing the incentive to experiment with different playstyles.

In terms of monetization, the game's release strategy raises concerns. Claiming a premiere date of 6.6 and offering a $20 Early Access option merely four days earlier feels disingenuous. Furthermore, the offer of Early Access for a short duration of only four days diminishes the value of the additional payment. It appears as if the intention was to capitalize on the fact that June 2nd fell on a Friday and June 6th on a Tuesday, maximizing profits rather than providing a genuine Early Access experience.

Overall, these practices cast a shadow on the game's integrity and consumer trust. Players who paid $70 instead of $90 were not given a true premiere experience but rather what could be considered a "Later Access" to the full version 1.0 of the game on June 2nd. This approach undermines the expectations and fairness associated with Early Access models, where players typically support a game's development in its earlier stages. As a result, the game's monetization strategy leaves players feeling exploited and dissatisfied.

In summary, the game suffers from a lack of complexity, opting for complicated mechanics that fail to deliver engaging gameplay. Issues with level scaling, mob density, itemization, skill mechanics, UI design, monetization choices, and item progression all contribute to a disappointing experience. Rather than providing a captivating Hack n' Slash adventure, the game relies on forced travel to prolong gameplay, further detracting from the overall enjoyment. As a result, the game falls short of its potential, leaving players longing for a more satisfying and well-rounded experience.

At this point i don't understand the management people from Blizzard an i feel sorry for the developers. It seems that they just never learn that providing a good gaming experience in the first place ist the conditio sine qua non. This decision to make game always online was clearly made to remain absolute control over my single player experience and they ruined it. I read about people waiting 'ages' in queues just to start a single player. Who has time for it?!

If they would write a bad review, they will be uninvited for future events and so instead of writing honestly, they just give out the things blizzard wants to read about their "great game"

    Now, to the REVIEW:
Since you can't apply a rating of an indie developer studio here, the rating for Diablo 4 is definitely and justifiably harsher.

    The Good Sides:
    + Story
    + Campaign
    + Sound
    + Graphics

    The Bad Sides:
    - The areas are all "the same", dull and dreary
    - Open world farming is already extremely boring after about 10-20 levels (I reached level 70, and have W4 gear and can easily work in the world tier. Necromancer, btw.)
    - Dungeons are all the same. No real variety. The same randomly generated level sections in dungeons appear far too often.
    - Enemy variety is not given.
    - Campaign bosses were so easy, that it felt lackluster and was done literally in a minute most of the time.
    - Item level and item depth is kept ridiculously simple.
    - There are currently only 4 REAL playable builds for each class. These can be easily gleaned from the skills and damage types.
    - There are really only 1 to a maximum of 2 final playable builds per class, which also make sense, are fun and can kill properly at all.
    - The lack of variety of surprises and "AHA" moments are just sad.
    - Diablo 3 and 2, despite its difficulties, had extremely more variety and game depth than Diablo 4 has at launch.
    - LAGS since the release took place. Ridiculous. Rubberbanding and much more.
    - Masses of bugs. Multiplayer dungeons, quests and much more.
    - EXTREMELY lack of communication from the developers to the players; Simple example here is simply increasing the level of the world bosses from 70 to 90. Without proper note or patch notes.
    - The developers clearly show that they don't care about the community and players.
    - Playable builds that are fun and on which players sat for a long time to build this min-max, are simply nerfed and tossed away by the devs through patches
    - The developers have made a lot of bad design decisions regarding the gameplay. It constantly feels like no one from the QA team has actually played and tried the final game.
    - The developers are taking the "NERF" design approach instead of "balancing". Everything is generated to death here and screwed down, instead of balancing everything up equally, so that other builds also make sense and offer gameplay fun. Instead, the current game fun is simply removed.
    - In the current games scene known and already established games like Path of Exile, Diablo 3 and many other smaller studios have proven that you do not have to reinvent the wheel.
Here Blizzard and the development team of Diablo 4 fail in the design aspect all along the line.
    - Builds are all predetermined when you look at the aspects and unique items. There are playable builds desired and wanted by the developers, and that's it. No diversity and freedom in your own exploration.
    - As a result of the previous point, players who have put an extreme amount of time into the game have to search and rebuild BUILDS to be efficient. Own builds are hard.

This game is not for hardcore fans of the genre, nor is it a good game for casual gamers. Too much grind, too simple, to much from everything that is bad, and not enough from everything that could make it good and worthwhile.

All in all, the game is a 4/10, just barely.

From Blizzard you expect much more, but the quality and what the company once stood for (in the past) is nowadays just gone. They simply pull a second EA image. Great.

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table.
