I'll start with the good. The game is pretty. The controller support is S-tier. The skill tree and paragon system are good. If you are casual player, the game is approachable and enjoyable.

Arter the recent experience nerfs the leveling pace becomes tedious in the 40s. There is just a lot of stuff that is broken, and due to the way they overengineered their systems is not easily fixable. For example, they can't add more stash tabs because they designed the game to load every players entire stash into memory, which will cause lag if they expand stashes. That sort of design philosophy doesn't give me much faith for the future of the game.

Overall it's an inferior game to Path of Exiles, but easier to learn for casual player.

Why Nerf all the fun ?? Why do we have to do renown again ? Why there is not a loot filter in this "arpg" ?

The real pain is in the shoddy implementation of game mechanics. Where do I start?
    - Class balance is a joke. It doesn't exist. To add insult to injury, the devs seem to focus on balancing around seasonal content as if the permanent "eternal realm" characters don't exist and suffer from even bigger gaps in power.
    - Endgame is extremely limited and repetitive.
    - Half the mobs have some sort of "I go kaboom on death" effect, which gets tedious.
    - Items are legit boring, due to multiple factors:
    1. Once you get to level 75 or so you are reduced to a line-worker checking an endless stream of "rares" for some 1% upgrade.
    2. The game is littered with situational affixes like "+5% damage to purple enemies when you are hungry". This exacerbates the issue of finding "good" items.
    3. The existing system of "legendary" items is lackluster. You unlock powers in dungeons but practically never want to use those because they are so weak, instead constantly spinning the wheel for a better version to drop... but these are "1 time use".
    4. Game is missing useful, direct affixes on items, like "+ 100 fire damage" or "3% chance to stun".
    5. Resistances are completely broken, have been for over 3 months, and still not fixed.
    6. Some stats straight up lie to you, like "% damage reduction" which DOES NOT work as a stacking bonus.
    7. Most of the "unique" items are pointless to use.
    8. No sets, no runewords, no real meaning behind item durability.
    9. No loot filter.

I could go on... thing is, practically every one of these issues can be fixed with dedication. I know that ONE DAY this game will be great. But it just isn't there yet, and I am sad.

Build complexity is trivial, once you play for a few hours you quickly realize the skill tree and paragon system are about as basic as it gets and leaves you with few options for a powerful build due to level scaling. UI is also bad, no search functions in your stash tabs, skill tree takes up way too much space on your screen.

I do think this game will be good in a couple years just like how ROS was with Vanilla D3 but unless Blizz can perform a miracle this game will be on life support in a few months.

The boss fights in this game are absolutely pathetic, the bosses are weaker than trash mobs in the literal same dungeon.

Damage Numbers are through the roof
Dungeons are basically guided narrow passages with no exploration
The world map is shown as a bunch of paths leaving no mystery for exploring the open world, you always know exactly where to go.

Story telling was great but many parts of the story were terrible, from comedic lines whilst fighting for our lives in hell, laughing at witty neyrelle comments outside a dungeon covered in blood and dead people lying around - theres a time and place for humour.

Itemization is pretty damn terrible, not alot of depth in build customization "play your way" and "endless build possibilities" are blatant lies.

There are many positives about diablo 4 and the game has great potential if they make certain changes.

It's better in some aspects (classes are a bit more mechanically distinct, world offers exploration, graphics), but RPG side feels like a significant downgrade.

The biggest sin is you're getting weaker as you level up. Until you complete your build stats and upgrades don't really matter, because individual skills will be hitting for less and less (relative to monster HP).

Second worst thing is the world feels like an MMO, which demolishes the atmosphere the visuals/sounds build. The way monsters and event respawn. The way random players run past you. The way you gain more barely significant stats by looking for altars. It screams MMO/Ubisoft open world game. Even dungeons despite looking different and having slightly different layout feels generic. Get in, kill X amount of enemies (sometimes find a key or interact with 2 objects), kill boss, at the very end, get out.

Gameplay style is pretty slow, as on most builds because the game throws hordes of enemies at you and you're stuck building a resource using weak single target attacks just to use a moderately stronger AoE twice.

Item stats are too specific without rewarding you for meeting conditions. 6% damage reduction from enemies far away. 3% damage increased on Crowd Controlled enemies. 2% critical chance. 6% critical damage increase. What the hell is this? I get not bloating the numbers, but at this point I get the same damage boost by just levelping up and equiping a higher level item than I get by equipping 3 perfect stats.

Skills themselves feel nice to use, but skill upgrades are boring. 20% chance to apply Vulnerability (20% damage increase) on target for 2 seconds, which is like 4% average damage increase. You can use those to build damage, if you apply vulnerable, are far enough for distant damage modifier, it's full moon and you're facing east in real life.

Classes aren't all born equal. Druid for example feels terrible to play, because they damage output is mediocre until late in the game, when compared to other classes and that is ignoring the fact that "build" don't really work at all until very late in game.

This is not diablo 2 formula, where a few good stats improve your performance. You need to use buffs, synergies and unique items to make anything work and because of that builds just don't come together until pretty late in game. All meaningful buffs last 2-4 seconds and to maintain them you either need uniques, paragon tree (50+) or more lucky hit chance than is possible to hit early on. Vast majority of skills rely on gear you will not have to offer a fluid gameplay. For example: I love the idea of playing a frost sorcerer, but those skills have pretty much no AoE. There are ways to give it AoE using critical hits (more than early game offers), lucky hits (not critical hit) and legendary items, but until then I'd be stuck killing 1 target at a time.

Finally, I thought monetization was fine (even if cosmetics are pricy), until they announced Premium Battlepass. The game is mediocre and I wouldn't want to burn out forcing myself to grind the FOMO pass, but it looks like it'll happen, and I'll have to pay to unlock rewards I already earned. With that said I immediately docked a point on my rating.

Open World 3/10, Most MMORPG crushes Diablo in this kind of game. Exploration was destroyed because of the Fog of war, it is for me one of the worst part, the events oh my..... No Solo play.
Side quests 4/10 they are sooo flat... why not having side quests like in Witcher 3., going have to do this each season.... nope.
Group play and PVP N/A I Only Solo.
Leveling, Skills 5/10 way too fast to 50, Way to slow after 50. you have 100% legendries at level 40... ridiculous... I suggest you finish story as fast as you can, if you start exploring you will hit 50 on chapter 1 or 2 and will be a chore to get to Tier 3. Skills are way too simplified like in D3, Paragon board is laughable. Take a look at Last Epoch for interesting skill leveling. They don't understand what Mana shield is all about... a mage skill adding +3 x 3 mana lol...
Mount 6/10 is Gimmick and pretty clunky but can help you get somewhere faster, kills the exploration again...
QoL 5/10 it's ok but lacks...
Gameplay 8/10: feeling of combat is great, but lacks of skill to much Console play in mind so have a very basic skills bar.
Endgame 3/10 Whispers are ok otherwise it would be a 1/10. same dungeons all the time, even rifts we're more diverse! doing it just for adding stupid points on the boring paragon board....
Overall 5/10 if It had not been sold as a Diablo game it would be receiving a 3 by most reviewers.
This game is probably dead after Season one, unless paragon board get's interesting, every dungeon is unique with floors!, has a decent fog of war, has a solo mode, Unique monsters that are like in D2 and D3. I made 2 classes Rogue and Mage and I am done, no interest for the other ones running the same thing again with this kind of super boring leveling system.

Decent game, but definitely overhyped. Graphics are cool, gameplay is fun, the story is good. But there is an overabundence of items and enemies which becomes annoying after a while (very similar to Path of Exile) and the dungeons and events become repetitive. In short, the game is mostly item farming and level grinding. It's worth playing, but definitely it doesn't worth the price of $70.

    Positives:
    - Great cutscenes and animations, it feels like you're watching a movie

    - The soundtrack is great

    - Great voice acting

    - Lots of gore to eh, enjoy

    Negatives:
    - Price: It costs 70 euros or more. I'm used to have games cost no more to 59,99, so it feels a bit steep

    - Microtransactions: A 70 euro game that has microtransactions. Some of these MTS are 24,99 Euro's, which is like COD MW2, very expensive. You only get a few cosmetics for that price too, some might like it while others feel ripped off

    - Connectivity issues: The network/server issues are quite annoying. Loading into a city such as Kyovashed(?) especially tanks your connection

    - Textures can't go above medium unless you got a recent/fast PC: Unless you have 32GB PC, the high quality textures aren't available. (They won't show up at all) Contrary to what you might believe, higher textures sometimes give you better FPS than lower textures, since the PC tasks the GPU with the game, instead of the CPU

    - No fullscreen: Weirdly enough, D4 does not come with exclusive fullscreen as option available. Some say this is a DirectX12 problem (DirectX11 does not have this), it's weird to not have it. Fullscreen almost always runs better performance wise than windowed mode, I really want this fullscreen to come back. Either that, or we need to have DirectX11 support. DX11 will also (very likely) increase performance on all (especially older and slower) systems.

Why is D4 not a good game at it's current state?

I think the main issue with D4 is the itemization and the item power levels. If I find a shako at level 70 it will have a level requirement of 70. If I find it at level 100, it will have a level requirement of 100. The level 70 shako can roll better item power and better stats. How on earth is that good itemization? I would actually prefer if the world didn't scale at all and the items would not have level requirements either. If I happen to find an overpowered item I would like to be able to just skip 10 tiers of nightmare dungeons and get huge amounts of more xp compared to what I'm used to. I think that would be ok (it would be great actually).

Also boosting friends is totally ok. Everyone starts from level 1 on a new season. If I level up 1 character to lets say 80 and can then carry my friend's alt to level 80 relatively fast, I think I would love that. After you do the initial work of leveling up one of your characters, you should be able to get carried on your alts.

What is the point of even getting a rare item like shako if I actually do nothing with it? I am gatekept by my own level and the xp bonus of higher level mobs being restricted to 25% on +3 levels. I feel like after hitting level 80 you have the same power level each time you level up since you just add +1 NMD tier.

I really want to be able to recycle items between my alts, (See d2 SoJ that has a level requirement of 29 and is a total end game item).

I also feel like the game really lacks excitement that we are used to when identifying a set amulet on d2 and wishing for rasha's amulet or identifying a ring and wishing for SoJ. The whole aspect and enchantment system guarantees gear progress in a really boring way.

Also I think I have gotten every possible sorceress unique in the game (because there is a lower chance of getting uniques from other classes?). That is silly. Its like I'm guaranteed these items after 2 weeks of playing. Having a wider array of possible loot for all classes and not making them account bound is the way to go. Trading was a big part of d2.

The biggest issue with the itemization at the moment is that there are level requirements to the items and that they only drop to your class, they are account bound and they roll stats for your class. There are stupid stats like "Damage to frozen, damage to cc, damage to immobilized, damage to chilled, damage to slowed, damage to stunned, etc..." This system is overly complicated (I can understand the system, but the design is stupidly complicated and unnecessary (KISS, Keep it stupid simple)) and restrictive in regards to sharing items between your alts or trading them. No-one is going to need my items that roll damage to frozen; not any other player and not any of my alts.

My gear at the moment is really good and I'm only gatekept from the end game content by my own level and the level based damage nerf and damage taken buff at the moment. I feel like this is silly design. I would like my character's strength to be based on the gear more than some arbitrary level based nerf that makes absolutely no sense.

It is also very stupid that if I'm able to do +25 mob level content, it is still optimal to do +3 mob level content. I'm actually punished for doing +25 mob level content as the clear speeds are way slower but I'm not getting more xp. It doesn't even seem to affect the loot I'm getting. Only thing I'm getting, is more glyph XP but its still faster to grind glyph levels on lower tiers. I think this is because they solved the balancing and progression problem with this lazy system. It doesn't really even matter what gear you have because there is a guaranteed gear progression with the aspect system. Only thing that matters in this game is level. And its stupid.

If it was possible to make higher level content with your friends and get rewarded of it as well as share items, this would be a multiplayer game. This is essentially a single player game at the moment.

Where to start, well first the character customization is inferior to the mobile game they released last year, secondly the graphics look really bland or muted, don't get me wrong the textures and objects look sharp but it just looks like half the colour palette is missing, those who played PC games in the late nineties and early noughties will remember you could toggle the colour depth between 16 and 32 bit, well this just looks like it's set to 16 bit.

As for the gameplay, I'm shocked, it's like they took all the improvements the last game made to the series and just said "meh". There's no option to teleport to party members, there's no pets (to pick up your gold), there's no followers to accompany you, they added a talent tree for "customization" but compared to D3 you have less abilities to choose from, less passives to choose from, and less combinations you can put together as half the stuff requires points wasted in things you don't want/need, there's no cube, etc, it's like they were so obsessed with making new systems they never stopped to check if they were actually any good or if they were just designing rubbish that was inferior to what it replaced.

Then it gets worse, multiplayer with strangers is now forced rather than optional unless you want to just not do some content, there are NO rifts (seriously) so nothing fun to do after completing the campaign. The new legendary system sucks. In the case of the Barbarian there are less builds and variety than in the last game.

Oh and they have added a paid system to the game that gives you better cosmetics/etc than players who don't pay.

Not going to post any spoilers for the story content, but I believe it's okay to say that the final act is very poorly written and contrived, feeling rushed in some places. Playing the previous games I never once found myself at odds with my characters decisions, this was definitely not the case here and I hate it when games force you to do what they want for the sake of the writers vision when it feels totally wrong.

And to add insult to injury they have stated now D4 is out they're not making any more seasons for D3 now, obviously in case players go back there after completing the campaign and realising the endgame is inferior.

diablo series and changed in history .. it got worse and worse, from single player to multiplayer and this already bothers me a lot not being able to play freely with my times has become an annoying thing, having to meet other players who do the your own quest, maybe killing the boss of this before you could do it annoys me even more, having to have an internet connection to connect withdiablo series and changed in history .. it got worse and worse, from single player to multiplayer and this already bothers me a lot not being able to play freely with my times has become an annoying thing, having to meet other players who do the your own quest, maybe killing the boss of this before you could do it annoys me even more, having to have an internet connection to connect with an absurd lag where they try to place the blame on your pc and not on the battlenet server is even more annoying, online you can find many guides on how to remove the lag but nothing more false and hypocritical, guides create ad oc to make believe that the problem is with your pc..and finally the online shop even if for now only on an aesthetic level but nothing detracts from the fact that there could be changes in the future, meanwhile you've already bought the game and that shop is online so do 2+2 and you'll see how they'll put you in the future as well (always if they want) items to upgrade
to conclude diablo 4 has good graphics, good storyline, but the online multiplayer the cash shop and all that series of negative things that I have listed make it a mediocre game that is not worth 70€ or 70$ buy it when it will drop in price, good game

I had very high hopes for this game, it didn't meet them. The most fundamental problem is that the game is just not fun to play, it all feels like a chore and you never make any progress. Liliths personality start promising, a demonic, scary but by the end has become a disney character.

The affixes on items are pointless,
2% damage or crowd controlled enemies
    2% damage to vurnable enemies
    2% damage to near enemies
... List goes on with MANY more exactly the same.

The cinematics and music (you have to tweak your audio settings, turn down SFX to ~50% if you wanna hear the music while playing) in this game are fantastic.

All in all the game is not fun, most of the time you are just slowly walking without killing any monster, very sloppy and bland story, game lakes itemization, very good cinematics and music.

I think many of the comments here are overly critical. The game certainly has many issues, but it also has a lot going for it. I've been a hard fan of D2, I still play D2 to this day and think it's one of the best in the RPG genre. That said, I don't think D4 deserves the hate it is currently receiving.

I've been a hard fan of D2, I still play D2 to this day and think it's one of the best in the RPG genre. That said, I don't think D4 deserves the hate it is currently receiving.

Starting off with what the game got right in my opinion:
    - Amazing cinematics (as usual for a Blizzard game)
    - Great visuals and got a nice dark atmosphere, although coloring are too mono-tone in some areas (sometimes just too gray)
    - Good campaign story (although I wish it was longer)
    - Great map diversity (deserts, frigid mountains, swamp, beach, caves, etc...)
    - Awesome character customization. Character looks awesome without spending a penny on cosmetics
    - Monsters feel good to slay
    - Great monster visuals

    Now onto the major negatives:
    - Itemization is somewhat lacking. White and blues literally have no purpose. Also, base item literally has no meaning; whether its a fur-lined boots or a greaves has no difference. Gems are useless after obtaining flawless versions. Perhaps introduce crafting options? Rares are just there to be upgraded to legendaries.
    - Legendaries and aspects are too important and specific to your build. They should be powerful, yes, but not a bottleneck for what build you can or can't do. This makes the game feel like you just choose which pre-set build Blizzard created for you. Also, since you can just transfer aspects, the item itself doesn't seem to matter unless they're uniques. so Legendary items don't actually feel "Legendary".
    - Due to the aforementioned two points, there is no diversity in builds. Every character above lvl 50 is running legendaries on every piece sprinkled with uniques. Also, there are only 5 core skills to choose from, some of which are too underpowered to be a viable option. (Perhaps add more core spells, or improve options for a hybrid build).
    - Scaling makes the progression feel bland. Why does a bear that I died to at lvl 40 still pose a potential threat to me at lvl 60? Maybe limit scaling to certain areas?

I think this game has a solid foundation for an awesome game. There are many more issues (horses, trading, social aspect), but I decided to focus on the major issues. If you're a more casual RPG game player (AC Origins-Valhlala, Skyrim) this game will likely be enjoyable. For the more hardcore players (D2, POE, Witcher), this game might feel somewhat underwhelming. That said, it's only been about a week since release, so I think has a lot of potential for growth.

    Good-
Satisfying feel to combat, regardless of your class, that's easy to pick up and control. The aesthetic and presentation, particularly the CG cutscenes, is excellent. The main cast is voiced exceptionally well, with some great interactions. Decent variety of enemies and solid boss battles. Heaps of content to complete in the open world. Some end-game activities, like Nightmare

Some end-game activities, like Nightmare Dungeons, can be fun and challenging.

    Bad-
Confusing UI decisions. No separate storage tab for Gems. Not the best horse-riding experience. Odd twists during the story and weird pacing during Acts 4-6. Loot feels serviceable at best, unenthusiastic at worst, and the power climb starts to plateau past level 20 with barely any changes to strategy (even with new loot tiers and Paragon Boards). Some endgame activities like Helltides feel underwhelming.

    Thoughts-
Regardless, I’ve had my fill at the bloody buffet and found my appetite sated while craving something more. Perhaps Diablo 4 can deliver that later as more updates and quality-of-life changes roll out. For many players (best-selling game in Blizzard history, by the way), that’s more than enough. For me, it’s fine. No less fun and certainly no more.

At times, Diablo 4 feels like a masterpiece. The cinematics are gorgeous. The gameplay is fun. The story is captivating. I like the key passives as they pretty clearly can define builds.

Other times, Diablo 4 feels like a mess. Here is my laundry list of complaints... Paid early access is not something I want to support. $70 price tag is too high for a digital game. $70 games should not

Other times, Diablo 4 feels like a mess. Here is my laundry list of complaints... Paid early access is not something I want to support. $70 price tag is too high for a digital game. $70 games should not have in-game shops, microtransactions or a battle pass. Always online functionally feels really bad when there are frequent server issues. Level scaling makes the game feel like I'm always at the exact same power level. Tying world tier 3 to finishing the campaign means that doing anything except the main storyline means you're playing the game wrong. The game never feels hard. I'm playing with friends but it feels like I'm not incentivized to actually play with them. The paragon system feels way too confusing to try to optimize. It almost always feels like I'm guessing when trying to decide if a piece of gear is an upgrade. Changing specs feels like a chore. Ultimate abilities often feel too weak for their long cooldowns timers. It feels wrong that you can poison rocks or cause skeletons to bleed. Gems take up too much bag space.

I'm currently level 57. Maybe I'll get to level 100, or more likely I'll lose interest over the next week or two and stop.

Update: I got to level 81. Patch 1.1 feels like a slap in the face. No QOL improvements. Massive nerfs to dps, survivability, xp gain, self healing, cdr, gear affixes, helltides, and more. I uninstalled and gave up my season 1 plans because I can’t support a game or company that thinks this is okay. Changing my previous rating of 5/10 to 2/10.

The core of a Diablo game is a satisfying grind, you play a couple of days, rush through story content with your second character wwith a plan in mind and a shopping list.
In D3 you would do the story in a couple of hours and begin doing GR's and bounties. it was straight forward. matchmake, grind and level your paragon. you would feel powerful through the campaign, and in GR's it would

What D4 is doing though, is slowing progress on every corner, dungeon variety is bad and on topside you can grind neither level nor gears effectively so what you basically do is you feel slow as a turtle and sort through trash.
i'm glad it's over for me now, maybe i'l revisit this game later...much later.

D3 was bad in the beginning, where are the people that could have learned from those mistakes and made it better

The feel of the gameplay is the same thing, it feels like poe with a condom on it. I realize that many people like that but I cannot understand why. This game could easilly, easilly become an 8 or 9 with a lot more content and some severe tweaks. This 6/10 is my objective score, if I had to rate it our of 10 for my personal review, it would be a 3. I paid 90$ for a game I don't really want to play. Expand

A really boring arpg. Much more better games out there. Really boring and repetitive open world, bad itemisation, crappy build performances.

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
