When your only complaint with a game is that there isn't more of it, you've got a good game on your hands. Better loot variance and mob variance would be cool, that would make the game a 10 for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a casual gamer, I've been playing for a week after work and on the weekend. I have enjoyed the game somewhat and still am, however playing D2 for a while when I was younger I don't think I will be playing D4 for that long. The bugs, crashes, and hotfix updates make me feel like the game is not complete. There are quite a few aspects to the game that don't make any sense.

The following issues for me are:

No item filter, a massive issue for someone who likes to play multiple classes, aspects look the same, and having to go from tab to tab to spot the text I need is like an Excel spreadsheet task.

4 Storage tabs that get filled with aspects and gear very quickly, If I was to continue playing on my other characters I wouldn't have enough space for gearing so it forces you to focus on only playing 1 class.
A mount that can run over fountains and **** in town but gets stuck on pebbles in the map, is incredibly annoying.
Constant changes to skills post-launch - let the game land make the changes you need to for season 1. I like to plan ahead and with the bugs, unintended items and crashes just make me feel that the game wasn't ready.
No global chat, no community the only dialogue you will have with another player is if you both happen to reach a dungeon entrance at the same time and they want to play with someone. There being no LFG tool in a MMORPG is dumb why even make the game a MMORPG? If you have friends playing with you I'm sure you won't experience this.

I enjoyed the campaign, the ending was a bit flat and I was made to kill a villain that made actually a lot of sense throughout the story. They demonize (haha) her via her methods with the excuse being the strongest will survive and the weak need to be culled. I just felt the main villain was just extreme but her heart was in the right place. I didn't feel like she was someone that needed to be killed even some key characters in the campaign didn't feel the need to stop the main villain. The previous games have all been about demons trying to take over, control, and lust for power, this was a different type of villain but the response was the same as before. For me, this is why the campaign falls flat.

I haven't hit level 100 yet so will keep playing till I do so, but I feel the endgame is just chasing gear via various means and this being a MMORPG that being the only endgame is poor.

World Bosses require no co-ordination and occur on a set timer, it would be great to have them triggered by players achieving a goal together.

It's a nice-looking game, that's easy to get into with some depth but its not a masterclass or 10/10

I said to my gf you start to feel like this game is just a time management exercise world bosses are on a timer, tree of whisper = timer, nightmare maps = timer.

I guess I am just disappointed why couldn't they of made the entirety of Sanctuary a battlefield with each map having objectives and goals to push back the tide of hell. That sets up a massive battle with other players to the gates of hell. Its an MMORPG built with a linear mindset.

I can understand that they don't want people to pirate the game, but I just want to be able to play it.
I want to be able to log in and play the game. I have been running into server, login, license, and connection issues since launch. I did not want an MMO experience. I play this game in single-player the VAST majority of the time.

I am actually writing this review instead of playing the game after trying to log in for the last 45 minutes.

The art style and music are amazing.

Characters have limited ways to play. At first glance, it looks like there is a lot of build diversity, but there aren't really that many truly viable things. Just look at the Necromancer. They only have one ability that gives unstoppable so that skill is on literally every build. Nearly every build Has decrepify to lower cooldowns. Minions are so bad that people actively gimp themselves by using it.
Barbarians have a similar issue with shouts.

The horse does not handle pathfinding very well. You have to get to act 3 to grab the horse.
This means many people rush through the campaign to grab the Horse....This is not good for the health of the campaign.

Many of the legendary aspects look exactly the same in the inventory. Managing stash tabs, inventory, and vendors is just a pain.

Why in the world do we have quick salvage buttons for the blacksmith but no quick sell buttons for the Merchants.

Why can we not see our total Obal Capacity beside the current amount (Its in another menu.)

Why did they give all the other Classes movement skills except for the Necro? Why does the Necro's blight obscure literally everything under it?

Why is there no Gem Bag?

Why does Enchanting not have an upper limit for cost?

Enemy Crowd Control effects are just obnoxious.

Story is good, gameplay is perfect, ITEMS are so good and there is lot of items that you can chase and a variety of builds that you can run and try.

There is some micro transactions in it but can be totally ignored since they are only cosmetics.

-expensive cash shop. This is true the skins are pretty expensive in there but that currently is all that is in there no inventory tabs like in other games or other game play benefits. Looking at you poe -shaky servers
The first few days of a launch are always shaky for the servers of a online game this should be known by now, however with that said I see no reason as to why this game was forced to be always online seems silly to me...but it's not the only one in the genre to do this again looking at you poe -the game loop is shallow
I do think there is a bit of a point here but only if you rush through the game at breakneck speeds. A new season is already on its way with more coming this type of game is always a marathon not a race.
    - it needs a way to just go into a dungeon without walking to it
....yes yes it does lol. This is legit criticism poe does this so well and it allows you to just go straight into the action after your last dungeon so here is hoping they figure this out.

There are other much smaller things like music being bad which I disagree with but that is heavily subjective and few others but yea Currently the game is solid its good. It has its problems a few odd balance issues that need ironed out but they have shown to be quickly working on that I mean 6 patches in a week mates they are working on the balance.
I recommend this game play it give it a go and have fun

If you’ve ever played a Diablo game before, you know what to expect. Unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot of innovative aspects to the game beyond the paragon board levelling system. The game very much plays like a reimagined Diablo 2 with modern game mechanics. The endgame has enough content to keep you busy til the end when the road at level 100. All in all, it’s a fun game with addictive gameplay and the big bad cash shop that everyone hates is absolutely not intrusive in the slightest to the gameplay so it’s totally ignorable. The average player isn’t going to spend $28 for a skin for a $70 game they just bought.

Ive been waiting to play diablo 4 since the trailer first dropped, a few years ago.
The games design, while needing a few minutes for adjusting settings, is pleasing. The audio is fantastic, and the visual are exactly what you'd expect from a diablo game, gory, yet well designed.
Functionally, the game feels like the perfect middle ground between diablo 2' extensive skill trees, and the simplified skill trees from diablo 3. The allowance of being able to choose what skills you want from different tiers, not being locked to 1 of each style was refreshing. The combat because of this, can feel very rewarding.
In honesty, it does have its issues, low level enemies feel fairly copy and paste. They do becomes more varied at higher levels, but i do wish they had more. That being said, its an arpg, thats par for course.
I do agree the choice to strictly be only live service, was a poor one. I also understand the reasons for them doing so, and as long as they put time and money into the servers the game could be amazing. The current issue with the online services is that they haven't been tested with this many players, and it cant handle it currently. Its been a week of actual release and of course we are seeing issues as with all online games immediately after release. In the past week they have already released fixes for a swathe of these issues. If they keep this up, i wont be surprised.
Considering the issues with hacking and cheating Diablo 3 was plagued with, i can respect the online only gameplay. I will admit that its hopeful that they'll be able to control that, but i believe it should be less rampant.
Already, they have made changes to classes, the day 1 nerf to barb and druid, and the buff to necro, gives me hope that they'll actively maintain the gameplay. Personally, i think they need to rebalance quite a few options as it feels as if certain abilities are just unplayable in their current condition. Some skills are just the clear choice, especially in a game like this, where Aesthetic doesn't clear dungeons.
Im not a fan of the story, for the most part. its not bad, its just not what i expected, nor agreed with. I think the story needed more time to be flushed out. I felt disconnected from my protagonist in large areas of the story. Thats not to say, that the story didnt have its good parts, nor its fantastic parts. It has been rare for me in the recent years to not regret the purchase of a game. I feel confident that this was a good purchase. Also, The shop is completely ignorable. It is not mandatory, If they force the shop i will have an issue. I spent my money, i will not be bullied into spending more.

The gameplay feels really good, and the story is captivating. As for cons, I really do not have any, being I fan of this game since D1, this a true Diablo experience from my point of view.
Now I do not understand all the negative comments, indeed I cannot say that I have the same feeling as when I was playing D1 or D2 and this will never happen again in this life, because the true experiences of your lives remained printed in your childhood when you were first experimenting different things and that's why we remain bonded to the things that made us happy in our childhood. Face the truth, we are getting old. :)
EDIT: After finishing most aspects of the game, I can say that this game is disappointing, I was hyped up at first but now I realize that this game does not satisfy me at all. I am sorry for the money paid for this game. Piracy is good for this kind of problems, we can all donate to pirates to help us see the game before buying it. It never happened to me to play a game and to think, man I just want to finish the story and put this game aside because I have other cool games to play. Story to short and I did not have fun in this game even for a moment. I will give a 3 for just trying. Path of exile is much more fun and free. This is my last purchase from Blizzard.

I write this review for two audiences, casual and "competitive".

    Casual --
Let's start with casual, this will be easier :)

Note that these are subject to preference, as the game is on the darker side.
    General categories for casual players:
    Storytelling - 9/10
    Visuals and Audio - 7/10
    Combat - 8/10
    Pacing - 8/10
    ------------------------------------
    Overall - 8/10

    Good job Blizzard!

    Competitive --
Now if the above review was not informative enough for you, then you might be in the more competitive category. I'll be frank, I've reached level 100 on hardcore mode, and I've spent many hours theory crafting builds, figuring out power scaling, and farming for gear. So let's get to it.

    Storytelling - 9/10
My review for storytelling remains the same. This is a darker game, so others might not enjoy the storytelling aspects that Diablo 4 presents, but at the same time... If you're playing a game titled "Diablo" then you should probably expect to see darker themes.

    Audio - 8/10
    Good stuff.

    Visuals - 7/10
This is where things become tricky. I come many different games, and I've seen a lot of visuals. There's something unique and satisfying that strong visuals (not flashbangs) and audio can bring to the player. The best example I can use is in Lost Ark, when your character uses an "ultimate" ability - it feels like an ultimate ability both from the sound cue's and the visual effects. Diablo 4 seems to shy away from this, but it's not entirely a bad thing. It's just Diablo 4's aesthetic.

    Combat - 7/10 (combined from Mobbing/Boss fighting)
For ease of review, we can break the combat down into two styles that are applicable to the ARPG genre. Mobbing and Boss fighting.

    - Mobbing 9/10
This is what Diablo does best. The builds you make tend to have speed as their middle name. The faster you go, the more items that drop, the more exp you earn, the more materials you farm, the higher you push your character. With so much RNG inherent to the genre, it's critical that you're farming efficiently - again, Diablo does this quite well.

    - Boss fighting. 5/10
We have a problem here. I will preface this by saying that there are unique "bosses" within the game that have mechanics for a player to learn and adapt to. However, this goes away very quickly when the boss dies in less than 10 seconds flat. There's no real sense of "Boss fighting" in this game, as bosses are basically just another elite pack with more health, or just a means to finish your dungeon.

The way that Diablo 4 is currently made to be played with it's skill usage, does not lend itself well to boss fighting in contrast to other games like Lost Ark's endgame boss fights (or even PoE bosses). There's a certain level of thematic presence that Diablo 4 boss fights are missing, and although I'm not an expert in game design - I can at least tell when a game is lacking.

    Pacing - 7/10
The pacing in this game is able to appeal to both the casual and more competitive player base alike. The game features a level scaling, which matches mobs to your level accordingly. Leveling initially feels comfortable and at ease, while leveling towards the end feels very slow, which is not a bad thing per say.

While some people enjoy chasing the higher level number, the game is much better enjoyed chasing "content" instead of "levels". As you're doing content suitable for you, the levels will come naturally, however there are some nuances to the pacing and scaling in this game that can make it feel bad at times. (Such as unlocking the next world tier when you're 7 levels down, but all of the enemies are now 10 levels higher than you.)

    Itemization - 7/10
The is a subject to great contention. ARPG's always tend to have a random aspect to their loot, and farming for the perfect item for your build can feel either tiring or rewarding, depending on multiple factors.

The tier levels of items for Diablo 4 was implemented quite well once you're more familiar with the system. However the systems used are incredibly and needlessly convoluted. I enjoy complex systems, but I mostly enjoy complex systems when information is in abundance.
For example, you are unable to see the potential roll values for an item affix at the enchanter, why hide this information? Hiding this type of information only makes the game more complex and frustrating for a casual player, which appears to be your main audience, as competitive players will seek this information out on their own.
For the average player, it will be difficult to determine if this next piece of gear is an upgrade for your character, or salvaged resources. Side content - The side content in the game is very good, but I will only ever do this content once or just not play anymore. Overall - 8/10

It has flaws - I agree that the power scaling feels weird, not a fan. If we've got a level 60 person and a level 20 person in a party, the level 20 person should be struggling more than the level 60. But it's not really a dealbreaker for me because I just focus on myself and keep on enjoying the fight. I think the store is stupid, but I just stick to the cosmetics that you can find in the game and ignore the store altogether. I agree with everyone saying that there should be an offline option to increase accessibility and for people that don't like strangers passing through their game, but I've been enjoying the online open world format, especially since all the dungeons/storyline boss fights are just with you and your party.

Having played all of the Diablo games extensively, I've been excited for this game for years, keeping up on the all the news, etc., and I think it delivered. It's also been great crossing over to play with my console gamer friends for the first time. For the flaws it has (like issues with barb and necro skills, the setup of the helltides), the developers have been paying attention to feedback and have been really good about responding openly about the improvements they will be making based on that feedback. It's clear that they want us to enjoy the game long-term.

As for how the game is right now: I think it has a compelling storyline, beautiful graphics, and I'm really enjoying the open world. I like the shift in the skills setup, and the mounts make it easy to explore every corner - I'm a playing that likes to get all the achievements, so I've been using the mounts constantly to make sure I caught everything. I've been playing a ton since it's been out, and I'm positive I'll be playing it for years. I'm definitely a long-term player, so that's probably why I'm not quite as mad about the price tag as some people that just want to binge it and then move on to the next game. I'm having a great time, and I've got about 10-15 people I've been playing with (a mix of Diablo veterans and first-time players) who are really happy with it as well.

It seems to me, those who made that game, never even have an idea of the type of game they created, D3 explode this one in gameplay, D2 is dated, but still walk on that one as well, I just liked the music and overall sound design, and some cinematic (even if the events in the cinematic weren't that interesting, at least it was quite well done)

I gave it 5/10 because i'm one of the idiot who got the game in early access for 89 euros (and I never played the Beta).. So 4/10 is for me and 5 for the game... Also as many others are pointing, it misses a lot of features, I won't give another list, you can see almost everyone else mentioning it.

I will still play it a bit to see if the real endgame (70+ and few paragon boost) save something gameplay wise, but if not (and probably not) this will be forgotten fast, life goes on though, it's just another silly game guys!

Veľmi komplikované všetko prepočítavať.. excel aby človek používal.. konečne po nejakých 70 hodinách poskladaný build na barba a blizzard vypne dva aspekty

Diablo 4 is a game with both strengths and weaknesses, and having multiple points to improve is not a perfect game for sure.

Arte que volta às origens, história bacana, bem polido e o late game com bastante coisa a fazer, vale cada centavo

First time Diablo played and I love this game. Super fun to learn about the classes and figure out which playstyle you want to use. Great time with friends and cross platform works great!

lives up to my expectations and it a very solid game on release i have played tons of ARPGS with thousands of hours across D3/D2/PoE and its fun definitely needs tweaks with class balancing and im looking forward to see what is added over the coming seasons

It’s almost like Diablo 4 developers are consciously fighting against everything that made classic Diablo fun. [Issue#262, p.80]

While the future of the game is anyone’s guess, at present Diablo IV is a solid, but strangely unambitious take that fails to bring much new to the table. By the end of my travels, I was more than willing to put it down and take a break — somewhere amongst all the grinding, Diablo IV had unfortunately ground me down as well.

The best Blizzard launch in a long time and a worthy game to be called Diablo.
