Cloudpunk is obviously a game made with great love and care. It shines through the visuals, the soundtrack, the city, and most especially the characters. Huxley, Camus, and Ben are easily some of the characters in any video game yet released in 2020. The gameplay is not particularly deep but it is solid and enjoyable in its relaxing way. While Cloudpunk does have a few minor faults (mainly the camera), none of them detract away from what is otherwise a wonderful experience. Get your multipass ready, it’s time to go for a ride.

Cloudpunk is simply the best way to wait for Cyberpunk 2077 with its gorgeous city, its intoxicating atmosphere and a very well-written adventure. A must play this spring.

A huge city in a state of entropic decay to explore, a diverse and memorable cast to meet, and an engaging new spin on adventure game navigation make for a highly compelling sci-fi experience in Cloudpunk.

Cloudpunk is a beautiful cyberpunk adventure when it comes to exploring the city and knowing every little story among its neighborhoods and sky roads. It is a shame that some of its gameplay mechanics are not funny or coherent. Ultimately, the game is worth it for the lore, the characters and the story that will motivate us to play until the end.

Like some of the narrative choices, it’s hard to know how to feel about Cloudpunk — and maybe that’s the point. It’s well-written and lovingly constructed, but it’s sometimes hard to appreciate as much as I’d like to thanks to the pacing issues. However, despite the problems, it’s definitely a journey worth taking — just go into it knowing that a little patience in some spots is required.

In the gameplay department, Cloudpunk simulates the boredom of a minimum wage job a little too well. Looking back, I’m happy to have played Cloudpunk, but I never want to sit through it again.

For Cloudpunk, hardship is merely the wallpaper for a pretty yet thinly conceived gaming experience.

It is basically sci-fi short stories on your first night of your new job, in the beautiful, stunning atmosphere of a cyberpunk city. For this experience, but only if that is your thing, its an easy 10/10. Don't expect too much of gameplay aside of this experience, though. You are basically told these stories while driving your car from A to B, sometimes with some choices, that's it. If you're able to enjoy delving into this world, while relaxedly driving your hover car through a city in the clouds with a synth-wave soundtrack (maybe just for half an hour after work, like I did) - wonderful. If you are expecting any kind of engaging gameplay loop, stay away, and if you rate it under this aspect, I fully understand all the negative ratings.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

No matter what others say is boring and boring, I personally still like this game very, very much. As a collector‘s hamster player, I am attracted to all kinds of small stories and item pickups outside the main storyline. Friends who like cyberpunk, I think it's worth it to see the scenery. At that time, when I played the ending, I was really in tears. Many choices have left regrets, and I think that one day in the future, I will open the game again and make a new choice.

The game had a great potential. But...

    Pros.:
    - Nice Minecraft design.
    - Several "layers" of the city.
    - Music.
    - Character design is promising.
    - Neat wrapped-up story.

    Cons.:
    - The city is actually VERY empty. Yes, you walk around but most of the locations contain junk (that you need) or punched cards (quest). That's it. Can't access many locations or talk to people. Which makes the feeling of the gameplay limited.
    - The story could be more engaging. When I played, it didn't feel I make a decision about people in the city or something like that. Partially, the problem is the empty city.
    - Could be more characters, more decisions, more upgrades, more locations to buy, etc. The game tries to be open world AND B-hunter (1999) at the same time. But fails to be both being rather a visual novel.

This game looks great and is nice juxtaposition to other games out there at the moment. when jumping in for the first time, it felt very Cyberpunk 2077 meets Fifth Element meets Minecraft/Robolx.
You play an ex musician turned driver for a service called Cloudpunk who deliver packages for "anyone". Questionable or otherwise. Get call from control, pick up package at random location, take to drop off, job done. Rinse and Repeat. There is an over arching storyline, new characters with backgrounds. There is the ability to upgrade your "HOVA" (flying car) Apartment and even purchase items from street ventures and dealers.

This game is visually great and makes use of the blocky graphics to enhance draw distance and create an almost seamless environment which, when you suspend you belief a little, is very absorbing. The ability to scroll out and go from first person to third is great and your going to need to use it. Because where it falls down is in navigating this world. At times, easy no problem. finding a place to park and walking to an objective with a clunky map, frustrating. Especially when the game doesn't really give very many hints on getting to places such as using lifts or going up to random NPC to gain access to a building.

The story HAD promise and draw. Some characters are relatable and funny. There are also some points where you can make a moral choice which I didn't expect and loved!
I never finished the game so I won't (nor can I) spoil any plot points.
Voice acting is quite cringe at points and where the story lacks is polish and proof reading. It felt like it wanted to say something but in writing and not in acting, as the delivery was lacking.
There was one interaction with an NPC where they are portrayed as a douche bag. An equivalent to cryp-to bro "worked my way up" CEO but my daddy has money type. Who then used a term when describing a person of colour, that shouldn't be used anymore. I wasn't sure if this was to re-enforce his bad character or to be edgy? It just wasn't needed and I was taken back by it.

Overall Cloudpunk is a good game which has promise and is a great option if your into indie games and are looking for something different. Fun to play and lovely to look at. The environment is somewhere where you want to spend more time. But it needs polish in its execution of its story and even though the environment is great it can be hard to navigate.
Can be taken as indie charm or just plain frustration and for that reason I can only give it a 6. Not bad. Pick it up in a sale

Story has no focus or tension, filled with pretentious dialogue and pointless characters with terrible voice acting. Gameplay is non-existend, exclusively drive von point A to B. Would have worked as a form of walking simulator with a good story, which it hasnt. On Foot sequences are absolutely terrible, slow, wonky and with camera issues. Don't bother playing this just for the atmosphere, you will be bored pretty fast. Expand
