Brilliant game. Brilliant graphics. Brilliant soundtrack. The ONLY thing which seriously lets this game down is it's multiplayer. It can still be very very buggy and battlelog can sometimes be completely unfunctional. Other than that, Great game!

Eh. Graphics are nice if you can run it... Otherwise the multiplayer is a pass for me. Its the same thing Dice is known for, crappy realism. Practically all of the guns feel like airsoft. (fake and pointless) Helicopters are slower than glaciers (well it almost feels that slow) and jets, which are back, feel slower than glaciers it seems like a jet should feel like its going 500mph not 50mph.

The innovation involved is top-notch. The game is packed with content, with an amazing single player campaign noted as "the best campaign since Call of Duty 4" by GameInformer. Everything about this game is of high quality, the weapons are modeled with laser precision as the Developers had access and personal experience with each of the weapons featured in the game. Developed under the watchful, experienced eye of Soldiers/Experts from both the US Military and the British SAS. With a heart-stopping Single-Player campaign written by Andy McNab, an SAS Operative and War Hero. The multiplayer is completely innovative, with the most realistic destruction ever seen in a video-game. With nearly 100 different vehicles to pilot and drive, the action is never ending, yet subtle at the same time.

The weaponry and unlocks in the game are endless, with a calculated 100 hours to fully level up a single class, one of four. The multiplayer in this game is top-notch, and unrivaled by its competitor, Call of Duty. Realistic, epic 64 player battles, and the winner of over 60 Industry awards. Battlefield 3 has won numerous Game of the Year awards already, and shows no signs of slowing down.

Dice has been widely known for innovation and top-quality multiplayer, and this is where they step their reputation up even further. A deep single-player campaign that really makes you feel the emotions of a soldier on the front lines, fighting for his country in the midst of destruction and the reality of death. Coupled with an award winning industrial soundtrack, giving the game a unique distinction from the rest of the FPS crowd. When you listen to the music in Battlefield 3, you can really feel what Sgt. Blackburn is feeling as he fights for his life, and his brothers against the PLR.

An industry leader in sound design, Dice has taken 7.1 Surround Sound to its fullest potential. The chaos of the battlefield, the sound of concrete and rubble, the deep bellowing gunshots exchanged by the US Military and the PLR, the loud, low growl of an M1 Tank's Powerful engines scored with the deep, unique emotional soundtrack. I'll say this right here, as the most innovative shooter this year, and for the decade to come, Battlefield 3 will always remain unmatched. This is not only the Shooter of the Year, but also a powerful contender for Game of The Year.

Battlefield 3 is a full two generations ahead of its competitor, Call of Duty, and as Activision struggles to keep up with the quality of EA's products, that won't change anytime soon.

Battlefield 3 is a PERFECT 10 out of 10, and let no one tell you otherwise.

Battlefield 3... The winner of over 60 Industry Awards, and the shooter of the year, still unrivaled since (Battlefield) 1942.

I'll be short and to a point: I though singleplayer sucked big time until i played MW3 SP, that piece of garbage was sooo boring and predictable it's not even funny (especially after spending $60 on it). On the other hand, multiplayer in BF3 is great, i love the open world, all equipment and vehicles that make the game quite enjoyable. I don't regret spending my $ on this one.

Never has battlefield put this much love into ambiance in a game. The sound effects alone immerse the player in the events around you. Every bullet whizzes, every explosion rocks your senses. The textures are phenominal even on my modest system (running core 2 due, and 2 8800 GTs 586 cards in SLI). Lighting is spectacular with glare from the sun adding a realism to the environment. The unlock and leveling system keeps you engaged and you feel like you accomplish something every time you play. Vehicles are fun and relatively balanced with Jets being somewhat out of place at times. Weapons fairly recoil realistically and take more skill, feel like they have weight to them, and sound amazing unlike the point and click use of weapons in MW2 and COD BO where weapons sounded like toy guns. The negative: ORIGIN. I'm on the fence about battlelog. There could have been more variety in unlocks on weapons instead of unlocking the multitude of scopes for each weapon. Some matches can be very one sided which make playing not so fun at times, no one likes being steam rolled. No choice in the squads you join, no character customization, no commander like in Battlefield 2. The destructible environments are lacking and was not delivered to the degree of Bad Company 2. A great game that promotes teamplay, has stuning graphics and amazing sound. So far i have 79h played and its as fun now as it was on day 1. Overall a great game. The reason i dont rate it 10 is cause of the SP and co-op modes. I know the games main focus is MP but since those modes are included they will affect my rating slightly.

So i had high hopes for this game. At first i have to say i did not like the whole origin system, but the ability to keep on surfing the net till the moment i join the game is nice. Though i can't say the origin software does the game any favours.

The game looks incredible no matter what the settings. Now please keep in mind i bought this game purely for multiplayer at which time i have clocked about 20 hours.
The scale of combat is nothing short of amazing. I enjoy playing mainly the 64 player maps, both with and without vehicles.

Almost all the maps are thoroughly enjoyable. And with multiple play styles per map with different progression with the rush format. The sound effects of everything in the game is amazingly vivid and when the bullets and rockets go whizzing by you when you huddled in a corner with your vision blurred due to surpression fire, i don't think there is another game quite like it.

Can't say i have encountered many major bugs that ruined my experience. Occasionally there may be a piece of wall just floating in mid air because the rest of it got blown up. And there are the occasional play models who still look like their alive and standing up but they're actually dead.

My biggest gripe is i purchased 2x HD6950's for this game and found that no matter what i do (format/different drivers/no software install etc) the game seems to be incompatible with this game and will only allow me to play anywhere between 2 hr -5 mins before it crashes my whole system (usually the 5 mins occurs) i have given these cards to a friend to try out and am currently using a GTX580 and have no issues running it on ultra settings @ 1080.

What the game contains in multiplayer is solid and works great but as mentioned by a few other reviews , they have skipped some of the best features of the BF series (especially from bf2/2142) such as team commander and more specific orders for squad leaders. That would have to be my biggest disappointment with the actual gameplay.

Combine the game with EA's poor relations to gamers, (treating gamers like crap) putting out Alpha's riddled with bugs so they can make money now, and fix problems way into the future, makes for a poor gaming company. MW3 has nothing innovative, but has sold 9.3 million on launch. Is MW3 better than BF3? No, not really. Its not about who's game is better designed. Its all about who treats their customers better. BF3 should have sales in the 5 million figure by now. But its just not going to happen. EA didn't listen to their customers, and now they are going to find out how much people hate EA, not BF3 in particular. With absolute dismal sales for BF3 and a word record on MW3.... The numbers tell the story. Not the reviews, but sales numbers. EA, here is a suggestion. Fire all the bigwigs, turn EA back into a gaming company instead of trying to monopolize on the gaming industry. Its not going to work. Steam is still the king of hill, and Origin is hated by most gamers. Listen to the numbers... I did not want just an updated Battlefield 2, I did not want Battlefield to follow in the footsteps of Call of Duty. I wanted Battlefield 3 to stand on it's own and be a mix of what has come before it. In my opinion, that's exactly what I got. The game has aspects of BF2 with advancements made in BC2. Though not perfect by any means, I think DICE did a great job advancing the series. Graphically, the game is simply beautiful. Coupled with the sound and the atmosphere of the maps, you can really get sucked right into the battles. You do not feel like you are just playing a game, disconnected from it like you do is many other titles, such as MW3. You feel like you are playing a Hollywood movie, like you are a part of the battle, a part of the action. I have played every Battlefield game, I have hundreds of hours invested in BF2, and countless more in all the other titles combined, so I do consider myself a "veteran" of the series. That being said, overall I am very happy with the game and I can not wait to get my hands on all the DLC slated for the game, starting with Back to Karkand! Great job EA/DICE. Expand

Battlelog, quirky at times, delivers a unique experience in stat tracking, and social gaming - think "facebook meets - stat central/UI". Many people have experienced stability issues, bugs, lock-ups, etc,...Personally, I have not. It seems that the majority of those who do have issues do not meet the system requirements, do not have the latest drivers or they simply do not understand the common nuances of a release such as this. Minor issues are expected, but DICE has already started to address most of the issues. In today's game release scenario, it seems unreasonable to expect a perfect launch but IMHO, DICE has come very close to perfection across the board.

With that said, I was hoping they would put a little more attention into the interior of buildings, we get the same empty rooms that were prevalent in bfbc2.

Sound - Indescribable until you hear it. Explosions have the ummph you expect them to, bullets passing by you crack like a whip, and vehicles sound like big machines of destruction! Hands down one of the best features of the game.

Gameplay - Gameplay is engaging, one of my biggest issues with gameplay is on the larger maps you will sometimes find yourself having to hoof it to get to the action because **** with the vehicles don't wait for passengers.

I'm new to the Battlefield series. To me this game would be a 10 if it supported as much players as the game MAG for PS3 or at least as much players on consoles as it does on PC.

It needs more game modes with smaller maps.

I'm liking it so far and will buy the "Going Back To Karkand" DLC.

The sound is excellent and the graphics look great on PC while consoles look kinda meh.But i do hate that they changed the great music from the previous games to this crappy radio like sounds.
If the game dropped it's price to i'd say $30 on PC,sure go ahead and go straight to the multiplayer .Same goes for consoles, but i'd wait till it's about $20 or less.

The graphics are gorgeous, but a little contrasty to my taste. I find it really hard to pick people out of the shadows. It's like it's 12:00 at the equator every match - the flare from the sun is intense and the shadows are hard. I think DICE is trying to show off their lighting engine a bit too much - sometimes less is more! The game needs some TLC - managing squads is more cumbersome than it needs to be, the minimap is worse than BF2, the servers are still crashing a lot, there are no reserved slots, etc. But I am confident that with time, DICE will refine this into the best FPS to date.

This game is an outstanding successor to previous Battlefield games. Perfect combat mechanics, and the intensity of immersion within the battlefield environment is unreal in both singleplayer and multiplayer. The only downfall is Origin, while the game itself is a beauty of an FPS.

Astounding graphics and sounds. The BEST lighting effects I have EVER seen in a game. However, there are a few issues that are present in the game that I cannot possibly give this game any higher of a score. Origin is a terrible idea, and after just being forced to update it again today I have noticed that the EULA stipulates a legal clause that contractually denies both EA and individuals the right to a class-action suit and trial by a jury (basically removing the power multiple individual's have over it). I do not agree with such a disregard for the civil liberties of consumers and EA is a despicable company. Furthermore having PC users forced to use a web based server browser is idiotic. If I want to alter some hotkeys I need to join a server, spend time adjusting it and then quit. If I want to change servers I need to close Battlefield 3 and then re-open a new instance of it. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in the history of gaming. DICE have done a good job with stat tracking, and I am happy for it. The singleplayer is terrible and does not reflect the freedom and scope of the multiplayer at all, it feels (and IS) heavily scripted: i.e. a cinematic-press-spacebar-at-the-right-time. I cannot fathom why DICE implemented a singleplayer at all (oh wait, to compete with MW3). In my opinion if they had of left it out completely and focused on creating a real user interface for us PC gamers I would have rated this one of the better games of 2011. Multiplayer is definitely the best experience I've ever had in an FPS and is FORCES you to work together as a team to do well. The playerbase has gotten quite a bit better since release as it seems they have adjusted well to what BF3 is about (i.e. dissociating it from CoD, which means NOT running out into the open field to get hit by sniper fire and dropping bloody ammo/health packs). DICE tried to entice the competition's market to play their game and it backfired for the most part: this is because MW3 is a DIFFERENT FPS. MW3 is twitch based and individual level reliance, where-as Battlefield 3 relies heavily on STAYING WITH YOUR TEAM. Too many times have I seen CoD players complain about the game being 'too slow' or 'sucking' because they die too much. Well this is because it isn't about sprinting around small corridors killing a whole team by yourself, you must employ tactics and the aid of your team to play the objective. If you want an FPS game that forces you to think about players outside of your own self, and to pay more attention then this is the game for you. If you want run and gun action, with quick respawns and quick kills this is NOT the game for you. In fact, K/D wont get you to the top of the leaderboard. I've topped the leaderboard with K/D's under 1 because I played the objective AND my role. 7/10. If EA weren't scoundrels, DICE worked on an in-game browser and didn't include a SP this game would get a 9 from me. I hope that among the amount of drivel you read here on metacritic, you see this honest review from a person neither loyal to IW or DICE, but to what he likes to play. Please stop posting inflated and deflated review scores if you haven't even played the game because you're ruining the industry for those of us who just love to play the game; this is neither a 0, nor a 10, it is approximately 7- 8.5 in all honesty. This is Battlefield, you do not come to Battlefield to play a single player game but to go online. I truly believe there should have been a "mushroom cloud" shown in the Paris explosion. But as all of us know, multiplayer is where its at for Battlefield and it has one of the best large scale team based gameplay out there.

Beautifully stunning graphics? Double check. DICE really pushed the envelope in developing the game and you can tell that this game has the blood, sweat, and tears of many people in their studio. While it may not be the genre defining title, I think Battlefield could definitely snatch the crown in it's next iteration if EA and DICE keep at it with the same ferocity. Despite how wonderful the game is overall, there are two big, glaring tarnishes on it. The first is campaign. I mean seriously, did no one at DICE say "Hey, campaign really sucks. How can we make it better?". Besides the story not making too much sense (and taking a huge turn out to left field at the end) there's still a couple of annoying glitches that persist from BC2, the most annoying being that enemy AI focus the majority of their fire on you and they see you from just about everywhere. What's the point of hiding behind a bush, or in a cloud of smoke when the enemy somehow knows you're there and will proceed to fill your digital body with lead. The second tarnish is the in-browser game launching system Battlelog. I appreciate the attempt at ingenuity and attempting something new, but it just doesn't feel right. I can't even change my in-game setting unless I'm actually in a game ("hey, can you guys not kill me 'til I fix my key bindings?") I hope they learn from this and just keep the game in the game next time around. Expand

Two of the maps can be avoided for 64 conquest purposes (which is all you really need to be playing) 1st, Metro; I dunno who designed this map and thought it to be a good idea, but they should be fired, it sucks. 2nd, Damavand; This is similar to Metro but with a wider tunnel system but is still plagued with the who gets the middle base first, wins. Unless you get a decent amount of people behind with your littlebird. Apart from these two maps the other seven are great and hold many avenues for different gameplay and flanking. Each class has their own merits which can help your team greatly, though for pure gunplay and killing power the assault class is in a league of its own. The infantry gameplay does have a slight smell of CoD but then that really isn't a bad thing as CoD was once one of the best on the market (CoD1 and CoD4) though it's toned down and not on as much cocaine as CoD, it just makes infantry seem a lot more potent then other Battlefields were firing your gun felt like you were throwing stones at people. All around it's shaped up nicely but still has some working out to do, but I am sure DICE is in the gym now pumping keys, oh and guess WHAT?! I have loved almost all of the battlefield games, i love this one too maybe because of my love of the series. I still believe the online is not matched in any other fps. Expand

There is not a reason why this game should not be reveled as the pinnacle in first person shooting. Everything from the vehicles and the audio, the destruction and the fidelity bring this game to life! I would buy this game and give it a 10/10 for its Multiplayer alone. If anyone is looking for a great multiplayer fps then look no further. This is the best one to date!

Single player is quite interesting with how they bring the story to life with the concepts of this game and multiplayer is where it's at. Unfortunately, some things are hindering, such as the battlelog setup, the difficulty of using voice chat, and some glitches/hiccups in the game. in one of the rounds, I remember being spawned in a "dumpster" (half open...looks like a bug metal shelf/tray) and I went prone to protect myself from enemy fire. Suddenly, I was squeezed through the wall of the dumpster like it took a dump and I was visible to the enemy, suddenly dying when I should have been protected. Also, you can't blame the game for this, but stupid online team members who shine their flashlights and lasers in your face are hella annoying. On the bright side of that, going blind by a laser in a video game shows how much work they put into the game. Small things like that brings more tactics....if you're shining it towards the enemy....

Other than those small issues, which will eventually be smoothed out with patches and flat iron, the multiplayer is where it's at and does a swell job at it. Just find a good group of trusting friends and you'll enjoy this game a lot.

Battlefield 3 has the right to challenge Modern Warfare3, the destruction, graphics, weapons, and audio are beautiful. The singleplayer is good but the multiplayer and co-op experience are the best, I just love playing with my friends on co-op or private matches. I have to give this 10 and so far this has to be the best game in over 5 years

Politics aside, this game on PC out beats any of the competition, including its past games. The fact that no Xbox or PS3 games has ever seen such a wide multi-player. The PC version automatically gets 2 points over the Xbox and PS3 counterparts, because 24 player is nothing compared to 64 players. I can't see my buying the console versions, especially since they want you to pay to play online.

32x32 is awesome, and i expected nothing less, however i did expect some more, like 48x48, or 64x64. These new battlefields are so beautiful that i have spent time just exploring, so i can live with 64 player since having 64 guys shooting at me wouldn't give time to take in the Frost Bite that has attacked my heart!

The kicker is the "Back to Karkand" pack, which gives us old BF2 players complete nostalgia, just like watching the old X-Men or Transformers cartoon.

All in All, I must say that out of every FPS ever made, and the impact of their releases, because of this, this game must be no less than a 9.5, and a solid 10 for being the best FPS ever created when it comes to army/war games.

    Well worth the $60.

I have this on PC. I have about 30 hours logged excluding finishing the campaign on hard and all the co-op missions. I'll tell you this, BF3 has its plunders with a somewhat lack luster single player...but honestly who is buying FPS games to look forward to story? The multiplayer is AAA+ quality. People may complain about Origin but it's mainly browser plugin issues

The multiplayer is AAA+ quality. People may complain about Origin but it's mainly browser plugin issues or your own fault for 3rd party blocking software.
ORIGIN has been up/running the entire time since launch asides from maintenance and there hasn't been any "day1" patch or anything of that sort - the game was released well polished.

Multiplayer is fun fun fun....Get this game if you're a fan of FPS shooters. The tactical realism coped with it's own "Battlefield" quirkiness really makes the gameplay unique. If you're looking for something besides a typical military shooter - get Battlefield 3.

Honestly, I don't care what the single player looks and plays like. Playing the multiplayer is truly amazing. This game has such a unique atmosphere, game play, graphics, customization, that you will simply not feel at any other game. BF was always about multiplayer. And they out-done themselves this time. :)

As I've played the final release, I felt in love with this game. There are still things that need to be fixed and balanced but the sounds, graphics, physics, movements are AMAZING! It's really fun to fly together with a friend in one attack helicopter and do some real pwnage.

Such a great game. There are some noticeable glitches, like screen flicking green every now and then, but that doesn't stop me from coming back for more and more. Such a fun great experience. With tons of classic battlefield moments. Sounds and graphics are amazing. It's the first time in a long time that I got an adrenaline rush in a game.

Beautiful update to the BF series, but there are problems to be fixed.
Some of the inital maps are excellent, but many feel too bottlenecked, and closed in. The addition of a few extra expansive maps such as Harvest Day and Heavy Metal would be appreciated.
Weapon selection is excellent, and it's nice to see EA make sniping more challenging again. Once glitches are fixed and new maps come

Graphics wise no other First person shooter even comes close and for a game where it feels like skill is needed rather than just run and gun again nothing comes close. Having now played MW3 I can honestly say that battlefield 3 has out done it sure there are more maps in mw3 but you can probably fit 3 or 4 mw3 maps in one bf3 map. Add to that more realistic or at least great sounding weapons might not be realistic as I have never fired one but sure do sound good, vehicles you control not the AI and a genuine team play orientated scoring system and battlefield is more the thinking man's fps. All that said BF3 is as far away from being MW3 as MW3 is from being BF3 they are completely different games for team play and vehicles choose bf3 for Rambo style run and gun hands down mw3 wins.

I gave it a 9 simply because at this point in time there are some issues most of which don't really have a huge effect on me but there still there and while I like Battlelog it could do with improvement.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
