This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I will start off with the single player and move onto the multi player.
The story is very standard. The main bad guys are quite generic and the locations are, for the most part, uninspired. The gun play is quite good, you need to use some tactics if you are to survive and there are a few scripted sequences which liven things up a little. I have a few problems with the mission design because some missions seemed like they were ripped right out of other games. The most obvious of these "borrowed" missions, as I will call them, is one called 'Night Shift'. In said mission, you start off as a marksman who must first make his way through a city, following orders from a senior so that you don't get caught by enemy patrols, to a vantage point which you provide covering fire from. This mission, to me at least, felt just like I was playing the mission "All Ghillied Up" from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The similarity only got stronger towards the end of the mission, where you back yourself into a corner, lay claymore mines all around yourself and then have to protect a wounded ally from enemy fire. After a certain amount of time, you then have to run out, through enemy fire, to your extraction helicopter which is waiting outside. This is almost an exact replica of the mission which directly succeeds "All Ghillied Up", which is called "One Shot, One Kill". However, Night Shift is a very good level and I had a lot of fun playing it, so this likeliness serves more as an annoyance to me than a game stopper. I think where the single player shined for me was the protagonists that you play throughout the game. There are I think four in total, two of which only appear for a single mission each. These protagonists have very cleverly designed and incredibly immersive vehicle missions. One a mission where you are in a Jet Aircraft and one a where you take the machine gun and main gun in an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank. These missions are defiantly the most memorable and, in my opinion, the most fun. The other two protagonists are an American and a Russian, I will not go into their missions specifically, but I will say that the use of the Russian protagonist to make, what I thought was, a subtle and incredibly relevant comment on the readiness of American security services to blame the Russians for a travesty that they did not commit. I enjoyed the Russian protagonist's missions immensely, not just for this reason, but also because they had the most variety and most interesting locations.

The campaign is good, not great, so how does the multi player, arguably the pillar of the Battlefield franchise, stand up to the test?

Disappointingly. It is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, I have poured hours into this multi player, including the beta, and I intend to continue doing so. Now I have not played Battlefield 2 so I make a massive assumption in saying that Battlefield 3 multi player feels more like the most recent Medal of Honour than it does a proper Battlefield game. Now I love both Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Medal of Honour, so either way, I enjoy the multi player. I was, however, hoping for more intense, explosion ridden, cover debris covered, team focused multi player. This, unfortunately, is not the case. There are hardly any opportunities to show off Frostbite 2's lovely destruction physics and the game seems more focused on run-and-gun game play. This is a shame as I was hoping for an experience more like that of Bad Company 2. Now that I have had my little rant, I can tell you that the multi player for Battlefield 3 is outstanding. The intensity is still there, something I feel Medal of Honour lacked, the team play, while not as focused as before, is still there and still rewarding you for helping your team by providing them with ammo or health, reviving them or providing a forward spawn point for them etcetera.

In conclusion, I love this game, I think it was well worth my time and money and I can almost guarantee it will be worth yours as well. I do not think the games flaws, of which, admittedly, there are many, get in the way of the fun at all. I give the game a hearty eight and eagerly await DICE's next instalment.

I like immersion, and battlefield gives me that. The maps are very large and spacious, making you feel like you're part of a large-scale war. The gameplay feels good, I absolutely love the parkour-style moves that can be done over small objects - but it can be annoying when the animation plays and you're still on the same side of the wall... it doesn't always work that well. The vehicles are a refreshing thing to have, not really my thing, but they work well.

I think my favorite part of the game are the weapons themselves. Every weapon, all the way down to the pistols, feel very weighty and realistic - they are just fun to shoot. This mostly has to do with the sound design. The sound is incredible, you have never heard anything as realistic as this. Everything from shooting your gun, to the vehicles, to shots being fired in the distance, to explosions and falling debris... the sound will blow you away.

At first, I thought limiting the consoles to 24 players instead of the PC's 64 was going to be a big deal. But, it's not, it still feels like a large battle. If you want a big, immersing, slower-paced, semi-realistic FPS, go for BF3.

As much fun and action packed as the smaller maps can be, trudging across a map the size of Nebraska, only to be picked off by a sniper, or shot by a seemingly INVINCIBLE helicopter just doesn't seem like an enjoyable multiplayer experience to me. Campaign = YAWN.

The single player really what is pulling the score from a 9. The multiplayer is as expected, AMAZING. From the top notch lighting effect, combined with the awesome sound effect, even for a non-fps fan like me, it is a real treat. Rarely any games have impressed me so much that can get me interested in game type that I don't relaly play much.

I never appreciated sound in a game until BF3. The graphics are great, but the sound is what really draws me in. EA would have been better off leaving single player out and instead providing a way to train before jumping in to multiplayer. Personally I purchased BF3 specifically for multiplayer, so the poor single player mode isn't an issue for me. For a good single player experience II never appreciated sound in a game until BF3. +the game overall is the best shooter since battlefield 2
+actually uses pc hardware especially vram
-battlelog is **** no way to communicate with friends who just logged in while you are in a game
-jet physics and heli physics are a far cry from the brilliance of the desert combat mod physics, it's better than in awful games like bf:vietnam or bad company, but it's not on par. At least you have full control, it's just too arcady and momentum barely applies.
Plane and heli physics are a big deal in battlefield that is why I mention them.
-A few of the guns have virtually no recoil, meaning noone uses the guns that actually have a learning curve to them -metro is unplayable because of rpg, grenade and most of all grenade launcher spam and the endless ammo you have for them as long as you stand next to any ammo pack...
-some broken mechanics like the supernova flashlight, infrared vision scope and silly mortars
    -only 4 classes
    -broken vehicle perks that stack
-netcode is still **** compared to proper shooters like cs , quake and UT99, at least it's better than the abomination called bad company 2
-the minimap sucks, they nailed it in the previous games I don't know why they made it so painful to read now
-they forced the modern warfare style carrot on a stick of filling bars on players, why can't it just be like bf1942 where you get your guns and the sandbox nature of the game is fun enough to last you for 3 years without needing a carrot!! -no mod tools, shame on you dice you greedy ****
-destruction is really lame, they talked it up and it turned out to be a dud. Just scripted where you shoot one of the hitboxes of an object till it runs out of hp after which part of it or all of it crumbles.
I guess their netcode is to blame for this, with proper physics based destruction it would soil itself most likely.

This looks like a huge list of negatives, but other than a few major ones (no mod tools, dissapointing physics and netcode, and only 4 classes / no commander) which bring the score down for me, the others can be (and most likely will be) fixed by a simple patch.

There are hundreds of hours of gameplay and learning curve packed into this game, it looks , sounds, feels and plays well so it's worth getting.
It's just a shame that they dumbed it down here and there and tried to market it to the retarded cod demographic, while the two games have nothing in common other than that there are guns in them.

This franchise isn't about singleplayer, so i'm not basing my score on that. As a multiplayer game it's unbeatable, well, you will know what i mean if you've ever played a BF game before. Vehicle combat is brilliant, lots of fun to be had with jets and tanks, and the anti-air vehicles (currently OP'd). Everything seems to be balanced with most vehicles as long as you have the right unlocks. Infantry wise, some of the unlocks might be OP'd, one being the IRNV (infra red scope), and another, the mortar. I'm not so sure the vehicle disablement feature works well but it's a new edition to the battlefield franchise and i welcome the change (it's optional depending on the server you join anyway). It doesn't work well with jets as i can never get a kill with one.

If i am to nit pic even further... the spawn system is bugged, the squad and spawn screens should have been better implemented, like in BF 2142. Jumping over obstacles doesn't always work as it should. It's a real shame not to see a proper BF intro but the implementation of battlelog is very much welcome as long as Dice sorts out all the bugs with it. The Commo Rose (Q button) needs to be patched asap.

I would have liked a few better modes instead of the usual Rush, TDM, and Conquest modes. Something like a Titan mode which can be found in 2142. Co-Op is a welcome edition, although i haven't played it much.

The game looks and sounds absolutely stunning. I didn't notice the low res textures that IGN pointed out, maybe they were looking at the monitor with a pair of pink frilly binoculars, or maybe i was reading a review of the console version? The sound is slightly better than BC2, which is really good.

Overall, it's one of the best FPS out there. I won't give it a ten because of the bugs and a few other things, but i'm sure the new patch will fix those.

I was expecting just being able to go through the SP with a buddy, but Co-Op is it s own mini-series. Very interesting concept. However, it seemed under developed, almost as an afterthought (or an extra game mode to stick on the box). I hope this will be expanded later on with DLC or expansions. This game is definitely going to be around for years, like BF2. I debated dockeding a point because of the terribly low ceilings for the jets in some maps. I have a feeling this has something to do with being able to support the consoles, and I hope it gets patched out of the pc version - so if your a flyer, you've been warned. And there is no default ingame voice for squads. You have to set up a party in Origins to use voice, if your not in a squad with clannies utilizing TS/Vent. I would definitely recommend buying this game. Expand

The maps are console maps pure and simple , not a damn one of them save for the really really big ones are playable with anything more than 24.

There is also some balance issues. A few gadgets will have players frustration at new levels , namely the cheap flashlights that blind players in broad daylight, the mortars that can be used in protected zones and have infinite range and AA tanks that beat battle tanks.

there is also rubber banding , both in bullets and in players. So be warned like all dice games this one launched with some very rough edges

The unlocks are plentiful and spread out enough that you feel you really accomplished unlocking them while not putting so far out of reach. On top of this DICE and EA reward those who pre-order by offering free DLC as it becomes available. This is compared to the COD series which tends to offer more DLC... but at a $15 price tag for content that is undeveloped. So overall if you want to put some money into a game this fall... Not to mention the only place you can make changes to your personal and graphical settings is in the game itself. The forced kill cams don't help this either. The campaign isn't the best, and in all honesty I much prefer a Call of Duty campaign, while I do dislike Call of Duty's multiplayer. That's about it for the negatives though. The game itself looks amazing, much more so than expected. A rewarding system for performing squad/team actions also helps set this game apart from other FPS games. The sound effects are also awesome. All the guns sound great, especially when a bullet just misses you. The selection of guns is great, and the leveling system is well designed. This game is well worth the $60, and I'm sure it will keep me busy for a very long time, at least when I'm not playing Skyrim. As long as they don't go the Call of Duty way and make Battlefield 4 next year, of course.

The large environments (however not as large as bf2) are great to look at and drive/fly around. There are many modes to play which helps you depending on what kind of game you feel like playing at the time. The destructible environment adds a lot to the game. it makes you feel more scared knowing that tank you ran by could just blow up the small wall you ran behind for cover. It adds a lot more depth to each game because the environment can change on the fly and so you must constantly be able to adapt. The game is nearly perfect however there are some small flaws.

The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 out of 10 is because of 3 small things. First of all is that the controls for helicopters and planes have been simplified. This makes them so much easier to fly for all the novices however it takes away from all the stunts and tricks you could do previously if you had enough experience. Second of all is the campaign which is more like an extended tutorial and guide to the game mechanics however since it's there I wish it could be slightly better. Third of all which is the bugs. Personally I haven't had any real bugs pop up on me that prevent me from playing and most of the bugs appear to be getting or have gotten fixed. However some people still occasionally get bugs so be aware of that if you play. Although like every game bugs will disappear as they are fixed just like every other game.

Wow! This game is just great! Everyone should give it a try, most of the mp maps are just brilliantly designed and are a ton of fun! With the new updates on origin there really isn't any downside to this game. :) Am currently putting alot of time Into this game and couldn't be any happier. Also, can't wait for back to karkand, that will be so awesome! See you on the battlefield!! :)

Single-player is a little cliche and short, but Multi-player will blow you away. The selection of vehicles is vast, and the generally all the maps are favorable.

I don't give it 10 because of the singleplayer, wich in my opinion, should have been excluded in pro of the multiplayer which i think is already excellent. Only for the technical standpoint this game deserve a 9! Frostbite 2 is hands down the best engine yet used on a game . Gorgeous graphics and animation

Great game. Single player is garbage, it's linear and on rails. DICE should of put all resources into multiplayer. Anyway, multiplayer is amazing, great mix of maps, although some maps aren't good, amazing sounds, awesome graphics, many approaches to playing the game.

Brilliant game. Okay, maybe not a true sequel to Battlefield 2 just yet, but DICE are working on improvements and features. People are going to say this is "Bad Company 3", but it's using the same engine, just improved, so of course it will feel like "Bad Company 2".

Think of the single player as a tutorial system and this game makes a lot more sense. Fundamentally Battlefield is always about the multiplayer, and this has a fantastic multiplayer system. Most of the criticism has to focus on the awful Origin, but blaming that on Battlefield would be like blaming Left 4 Dead on any issues Steam had.

The real deal is the MP that has been always the case with this title. If i have to score sp i would give this game a big 0 just as i gave MW3 but to be honest it is better to have no sp than that crap of one in MW3. On to the mp portion of he game:

It is one of the best if i could compare it is the same gratifying experience as in SC2. The maps are greatly done and detailed on the PC version 32 vs 32 it is f.. hell to play u need to have a great squad behind your back to survive and to kick some ass in the process. The classes are balanced right of the bat except for some minor OP of the engineer class but i think that will be fixed soon. The environment and immersion in the mp can only bee done by Dice. The sound of the guns and armor units planes flying above your heads are AMAZING. The frostbite 2 engine i will not mention because hey there is not so much to say except when it comes to rendering maps and all of that detail FROStBITE 2 is God in engine department :))

The origin battle log system, at first i hated it but using it it kinda grow on me it is easy to navigate and it feels like a browser we all use in our daily lives. I can explain in detail so much because it would be a loong review u just have to see it for your self and decide

I was so happy to see the first teaser I nearly exploded with joy and as time moved on I only got more excited with each new trailer showing off the lovely Frostbite 2 engine this game would be made on. It all looked so promising, but soon my "fanboyism" was put aside to look at this logically.

Having gone through DICE game launches before I knew it was bond to go bad cause a game like this, with a brand new engine, is bond to have a few bugs. Well with the launch of the Beta i got a some taste of the game. I was happy to a point when the game actually managed to damage my CPU. Needless to say I was shocked, but it was easily looked over as I was already looking into replacements before the beta.

The Beta Game itself was broken, bugged, and for the most part a Beta. The main idea of it was to stress test the servers that would be used on PC. This I understood well and looked over many issues while still pointing them out so they would get sorted before release.

Release Day. My Computer ready with shiny new parts, an upgrade to the OS, and the game installed. So far not bad. Origin annoyed me a little, but I wanted to get to the game so I looked past it for the time being. I clicked on the exe and....Firefox opened to BattleLog. OK not a total surprise I pretty much expected it to do that after playing the Beta. I set up my profile, find a few old friends, join my platoon, and then straight to the server browser. Sadly however that was also still on BattleLog. This is getting annoying. I was hoping for an in-game browser, but oh well.

After getting in game I notice right away the difference between Retail and Beta. The game is beautiful! Even on the lowest possible setting. Gameplay was smooth, the weapons looked awesome, and acted like I'd expect them to. The map Caspian Border is such an awesome place and looks to have that classic Battlefield feel......to a point.

Like most maps in this game I've played on(all of them) it's flag points for Conquest(which for most BF2 vets is the go-to game mode) are WAY to close to each other. Getting to each one is nothing more then a hope, skip, and really that's it. No jump. Although I loved the map I was kind of sadden to see this. I was hoping for a classic BF feel in the maps. If I needed to get from point to point in BF2 I needed a Jeep, Tank, or Chopper to get me there as fast as possible. In BF3 I can sprite there just fine, no need to waste the chopper on transport I'm fine on foot.

After a few matches I went back to BattleLog to see how the state tracking is. So far it hasn't given me a single problem. I love that I don't have to go search for a random 3rd party site to see my states out-of-game. BattleLog itself isn't a bad idea. I like having the forums, stats, friends list, and the Battle Feed which shows off how good my friends are.

I however don't like that I'm forced to launch the game through BattleLog. I'm not happy with this being the "Future of Gaming" when an In-game menu is something all games should have. Gimmicks like this are what makes or breaks the game for some people. It also doesn't help that we also need Origin to play even when it doesn't nothing for the game. Origin and BattleLog don't even work together. Its a waste of space on my computer and just flat out annoying.

ON top of these things the game itself is still bugged in a few ways. Not all issues from the Beta were completely fixed or removed. The in-game Chat Box is too big, The Tactical Flash Light is as bright or brighter then the sun, and I still can check my ping while in-game which for an OCD ping checker like me is very VERY annoying.

In closing I'd like to say that despite the problems, and annoyances. The game is fun. I can't say if it's a complete Battlefield game or not, but I can say I will most likely be enjoying this game for a long time. Sooner or later a Patch or two will hit and like with all other Battlefield before. Problems will be fixed. I trust DICE that much at least.

However, after being invited to take part in the alpha testing, and then gaining early access to the beta trial a few weeks prior to the official game release, I felt slightly let down and (frankly) disheartened by some of the desicions that were made in the creation of this (supposed) follow on from 'Battlefield 2'...

The single-player story mode is really poorly told, and the cutscene after cutscene button mash stupidness leaves you feeling a bit robbed -- I want those few hours back you stole from me EA/DICE !!!
To be fair, the game engine is beautiful. But it is far from complete! This game had so much potential for an epic storyline, but alas, it just wanted to be a multi-player shooter really...

Leading on to multi-player, I am still frustrated (along with others within battlelog) at some glaringly obvious problems and niggles that were shipped on the official release prior to many of the community giving expressed opinions that they should be addressed.

All in all, this game just feels like it was rushed to market to release before MW3 so to try and attempt to steal customers from Activision. Which, I might add, I am in no way saying is either right or wrong. That's a whole different 'review'!

SP maybe isn't that good, but MP just pwns!
From flying jets, helicopters, tanks, jeeps, to brutal strategy fighting, thinking, captioning points, rushing, unlocking all the stuff you can, just amazingly brings you back into game for more and more and more!
Also, upcoming DLC - Back To Karkand, will show us what really Battlefield is!
Big maps, enchanced destructions, new weapons, vehicles, just in the style of DICE!
Also, on DRMB's podcast, someone mentioned that would be nice if DICE make an BF3 - WW2, so to see a World War in the Frostbite 2 look, and maybe, who knows we see the expansion for it!
From now on, as DICE said, Frostbite 2, and BF3 which uses it's engine, which is so big and powerful, we can expect just everything!
Maybe there aren't mods from third party devs, but who knows, when people get better PCs, and DICE realize that it's time to give developers a mod making availability, this game will pwn even more!

So, I'll talk more about MP style and feeling:

CONQUEST MODE: PTFO, PTFO and PTFO! Help your team, help your squad, learn new routes, stick with squad/team, or go with your squad to capture the point, but be prepared for EVERYTHING!
    Use vehicles! Destroy vehicles!
Try every weapon, unlock all of the weapon upgrades of weapon you really like! ;)
Play the class that suits best for you, and you really like it!
If you are unlocking, and getting used to the class, CONQUEST is maybe a good choice, cuz everything is in CONQUEST, from RUSH, TDM to learning strategy and how to work as a player of that class!
If you are n00b at some class, stick with the team/squad, and assist them!
If you are medic, REVIVE them, no matter what! Yeah yeah, somebody will say DRMB, but, you got points for every revive, but still, be sure not to revive dead soldier, and to be dead again

    RUSH:
    Fast, brutal fight!
FFS! if not PTFO, you lost
Don't go for your damn K/D, K/D doesn't matter at all! Only if you are defending!
PTFO, if your's M-COM is armed, DISARM it! :)

Using of weapons and attachments in RUSH:
maybe some of you already know that tac-light is kinda OP in BF3 (getting nerf in upcoming patch), so in some situations is very good, but be sure to not show your position to the enemy with it... Same with the laser attachment!
    Use supressor! :)
Use IRNV! This attachment is just like AIMBOT from DICE :D M416/SCAR-H/M249 or any other accuracy good weapon + IRNV + SUPRESSOR + AMMO = pWNS!

    TDM:
For someone yei, for someone nei...
But, if you like 1 on 1 fight, or 1 vs 32, or 32 vs 32, or just aggressive, adrenaline fight, with many spawn camps, spawning behind you, or spawning in front of your enemy, and such, go for it! :D
Must say, it's fun to play, it's OK for weapon unlocking, and to test all weapon, gadget, attachment combinations! Try it out!

    Conclusion:

    PROs:
    - awesome graphics and audio, which is almost as real as you are there (must have 5.1, 7.1 set!), sound of bullets (every bullet sounds different, depending on weapon, gadget, supressor...), explosions, walking, running, flying jets, just EVERYTHING!
    - ranks, and all is about unlocks, which will just say to you COME BACK, I need to unlock more, what's coming next, oh, must play it!
    - TEAMPLAY! - yeah, this game (compairing to CoD) is really teamplay/squad oriented, if you don't play as a team, or you don't take objectives with your whole team, you just LOST! So, help your TEAM! ;)
    - Prone! Added again, from BF2, very startegically, and maybe someone will say it's a camping thing, but it isn't, when someone see's you, you are dead, no matter what... But still, prone is awesome for taking objectives, for hiding, also be sure to check prone enemy with some bullets to see is it dead, or prone :D
    - Vehicles, jet flying is so amazing, and so realistic, that everyone want to fly jets! Unlocking stuff for jets adds the another lvl to this game, which will set you for hours and hours in the **** trying to destroy enemy jets, helicopters, tanks and such!
    - Classes! Different from BFBC2, but, very nicely done!
    - Bullet drop!
    - Health regen.
    - Hardcore mode
    - You must buy this game! ;)

    CONs:
    - Battlelog bugs, but still, guys from DICE are working on it every single day! - Some ingame things, like spawns, tac-light, OP weapons, but that's still being updated - For new players, it'll be hard to start, and for CoD player (they'll just die) xD j/k - and maybe a PC optimization, but still, this game needs some of PC juice, and that's normal! Cya on BattleField! ;)

A near-excellent game. There are a few downsides, among which I should mention the short (but typical for a modern FPS) campaign length of 5-6 hours. At times it's very challenging, and at times the AI is braindead. All in all the SP is short but sweet.

The co-op campaign is also a nice addition and it's very fun to play with a friend. However, the true value lies in the multiplayer.

The co-op campaign is also a nice addition and it's very fun to play with a friend.

However, the true value lies in the multiplayer. Some bash this game and say it's not a "true" successor to BF2. Au contraire, it lives up to its legacy, despite shortcomings like no in-game VoIP (which is replaced by a VoIP client built into BattleLog). Speaking of BattleLog - it's a great addition. You can view the outcome of your games, check your performance or switch servers in no time. Streamlined, but deep.

Back to MP gameplay: It's typical Battlefield on large maps, with plenty of vehicles, but also enough infantry combat to keep it entertaining. Destruction isn't as overdone as in Bad Company 2, and it's easy to understand why - a flat landscape just isn't fun to play in. There is virtually no lag - the netcode is perfect, allowing 64 players to enjoy the game.

System requirements may be high, but it's for the greater good. The visuals are stunning. Crysis, The Witcher 2, Metro 2033. Battlefield 3 is better in most areas. And the sounds? Bad Company 2's sound was great, but BF3 takes all that to a whole new level. Turning your volume all the way up might just scare your neighbour so bad he might run off to the bomb shelter in his backyard thinking a war broke out.

Put short: The campaign isn't very memorable, and it's short, but it's enough to keep you entertained when your internet is down. And the co-op is a nice icing on the sweet cake that is the multiplayer which is more complex and deep than any previous BF game's and might keep you pinned to your seat for hundreds and even thousands of hours.

    SINGLE PLAYER:
The campaign is the first step by DICE to tell a serious campaign, ignoring the comical adventures from Bad Company it goes for the dark and gritty tones which is helped from the new Frostbite engine which gives some of the best graphics I have ever seen. The campaign takes from Black Ops the CIA interrogating a soldier and the nuclear threat from Modern Warfare and comes out, unoriginal but very fun while it lasts. I had a few moments where I verbally out loud said "Oh **** when a scripted event happened, one moment involves a Russian Jet Fighter taking strafing runs at your squad as you run from cover to cover trying to predict its path. This excitement I got out of the game is helped from the incredible sound which, with a surround sound system engulfs you in the action. The game has many quick time events, which only involve very few keys which seem to be so easy your just pressing the key to make the game know your its **** You drive very few vehicles in this single player which is disappointing since there are no tutorials on how to fly choppers and jets, leaving most people to jump into the multiplayer only to crash into the ground immediately. Id give the campaign a 7, due to some exciting set pieces that really got me involved.

    MULTIPLAYER:
Battlefield is a multiplayer game, and this is wear it really gets going. Multiplayer matches are large, frantic and fun. There are no campers hiding by objectives due to the balance of spotting, destructible environments and Vehicles leveling out the battlefield and keeping things even allowing snipers who sit on the hills surrounding some maps to have to keep mobile not to get caught. This doesn't mean it comes with out frustration, when you make a class, you have the option of attaching sights and other things to your weapon, only for it to be erased when you change teams and also, a poor map and intrusive chat log clog the screen, but these are nagging issues easily tackled with a update or two. I found the battles epic, sounding amazing (with myself ducking when a rocket came whizzing past my players head) and looking amazing too. The maps are great with a good variation to the large deserts of Operation Firestorm to the Basejumping of one map. Yes, base jumping in multiplayer. I will give the multiplayer a 9 with me having the most fun I have ever had in a shooter online.

Great multiplayer, but flops on single player. The story line feels like run out of a mill, leave nothing to be excited about. ON the multiplayer, it put players to work together to achieve a goal, unlike most of the FPS games where you can just run and gun.

On my hardware the game runs smooth, graphics are very good as well as sound. Occasionally the game crashes during startup, that sucks. Single player is okay, but not the reason why I bought the game. Overall very good game for me, and my style of playing,

Be prepared to lose whole days of you life to this title. The Battlefield have absorbed thousands of player ours, and this looks likely to do the same (one the issues are patched up). In no other shooter can you fire a gun, command a squad, fly a chopper, dogfight in a jet, drive a tank, or a hummer, use a mortar, and have the freedom of the whole map. This game is brilliant, and I'm going to stop writing this, and go play some more of it. P.S. On a side note, the Single player is a load of tripe. the Story is unimagined, the QTE's are annoying, the climax is uninspired and the cutseans are prolific. This is a MP game only! Expand

I applaud DICE for trying to make an innovation with this game, but some features are unwelcome. Origin, for example. Why replace Steam with your own site? Another is Battlelog. I appreciate the fast server browser but launching a game isn't as easy as it should be and you can easily overlook messages from friends. However, on the other hand are some nice innovations and a good multiplayer. Singleplayer is bland, Black Ops style and linear. The menu is clear, another take from the Call of Duty series (I am NOT a Call of Duty fanboy, I just couldn't help seeing that both menus (the Battlelog one not the singlplayer one) are similar). However, its the multiplayer that makes Battlefield and Battlefield 3's is great. Theres only six maps, which is sad, but it is overall a great blast. Torches (a very powerful weapon), prone and destruction 3.0 all help in the mix. If you don't know Battlefield multiplayer of late, you're basically tossed in a large destructable map with 63 other people, heaps of vehicles, some objectives, a team support item and a gun. If this game was multiplayer only and featured an actual main menu (not Battlelog for launching), I would easily give this game a 10/10. Expand

Some mission in SP like F15 bombing runs and tank combat breaks the dull moments of a 3 hrs long campaign. MP plays like BF2 with MOH addon, a new shiny graphics engine. In addition, a broken Squad management and GUI and a non existent commander system and a sloppy 'parkour' movement. Also Destruction is scaled way back to 30% not to what DICE promised of 70% and some maps barely have any destructible environments and some feels its been rushed out with bad design. Quality of the maps vary from open battlefield and the best "caspian border" to the worst "Grand Bazaar" COD like funnel chokepoints. With a slightly more realistic bullet dmg and health system and ablitiy to prone, thus benefit campers whos looking for cheap kills and spawn killing to boost their K/D ratio. DICE did try to innovate new idea to freshen up FPS genre but somehow backfired, "who need flashbang grenades when theres 1000w flashlight". Bullets dynamics in the otherhand have been refined and that is the only thing which kept me interested.
If you love BFBC2 tight firefight, great teamwork and Epic destructible environment, you will skip this game unless you have friends playing to prevent you from rage quit. If you hate BF2, you will hate this too.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is absolutely amazing. The amount of customization and unlocks for weapons and load outs is the best in any game I've ever played. And i play a lot of games. The maps aren't the greatest but there's a lot of them between conquest, rush, conquest large, tdm, squad dm, and squad rush. Graphics are great, and the gun sounds are the most realistic I've heard. Its like the equivalent of amnesia's sound effects. Really crisp clear and finally a gun sounds like a freaking gun. Game play is fun, competitive, and tactical. Having a medic whom can heal you, a scout pin pointing enemy locations a support laying down cover, or firing at tanks with mortar fire from a distance. and and engineer with anti air, anti ground support creates a solid team. Adding Vehicles to the mix with ways of counter measures such as ir smoke or flares for in coming rocket fire. The single player wasn't terrible it was fun to follow through. The only part i had a problem with was shooting the american soldier to help a Russian. That was **** A soldier would get a SITREP of the situation not shoot you. nor would he clear a room by kicking in a door alone. Clear rooms as a squad. Anyway this game is amazing the multiplayer is awesome. My reason for giving it an 8 is freaking obvious, BATTLELOG. greatest mistake a game developer could create... the stupid plugin on the site crashes in 1/4 of my games crashing the game. I hate EA as a publisher, the world needs an honest publishing company for games that doesn't suck so much **** they create the idea of origin and battlelog. Not agreeing with steams terms of service is a **** lie to cover up their want for more money. Stupid greedy company. Expand

I think this game deserves an 8, and I shall go into why I think this. The first thing is, they didn't just copy/paste BC2 in every way bar the levels, and try sell it as a new game. This alone should get it 5 points, as it's main competitor in the FPS market does just that; so striving to be different and create innovation in the way of a new gaming engine defines it higher up the ladderI think this game deserves an 8, and I shall go into why I think this. The first thing is, they didn't just copy/paste BC2 in every way bar the levels, and try sell it as a new game. This alone should get it 5 points, as it's main competitor in the FPS market does just that; so striving to be different and create innovation in the way of a new gaming engine defines it higher up the ladder than its main competitor by default.

Now I know this game has never been sold on its singleplayer component, and you can tell this whilst playing the restricted single player that comes with the game. It feels like the designers threw it in there to satisfy those who would complain if it wasn't there, not to win awards with amazing single player story arc design or plot progression. Sure it has big set-pieces ala CoD and amazing vistas and beautiful graphics, but its things like the extremely un-needed quicktime sequences thrown in at every corner that really made me cringe whilst playing the campaign. I bought this knowing it was multiplayer based beforehand, and bought it as a multiplayer game, but all the same, this is a reason why I can't give it a 10, it's not quite the perfect package... quite.

The core part of the package then... the multiplayer. With an unlock system close to the BF's of old, with a few extras thrown in, the unlock system will keep you playing for hours more than you intended too. No stupid kill-streak bonuses here, just hard work to get fair rewards. With unlocks for each type of vehicle, weapon and class there is plenty to unlock, along with the visual additions gained (new camo etc) by the core account levelling process that slowly levels up by collating all points gained as you play - there really is a lot of stuff here to add to the already awesome multiplayer experience.

The battlefields range from the hugely wide open area of "Caspian Border" to the confined train station setting within "Metro", each level adds something different and requires different approaches from a tactical standpoint, making each game you play guaranteed to be different. The vehicles add the feel of warfare across all maps that have them, and can be extremely deadly in the right hands.

That's the thing with this game, nothing really feels unfair or unbalanced. Sure if you're getting owned by an attack helicopter, jump in an AA gun and go blow him/her out of the sky, or get working on flying your own Helicopter to better him/her. At first you may fail, but after a bit of work you will be the one people will be clambering into AA's to take down, or grabbing anti tank gear to take you out due to the immense destruction you are causing. And the good thing is, when you do get taken out, it's normally because you missed something or didn't react quick enough, not because some dude was in an AC130 dominating you with no chance to respond. With the different game modes like Conquest, Rush, Team Deathmatch and Squad Rush the multiplayer really is a big beast to bite into, and has something for every fps player. Along with the fun, but short, co-op, this game really is worth the price its asking for.

If it only wasn't for Origin I may have given it a 9...

Battlefield 3 is a great game i think, but like every other game, it has its downfalls. The multiplayer of course is the highlight. more customization than any other battlefield game, with some pretty cool stuff. The only bad parts with the multiplayer is the tactical flashlight, spawn system, and expecting gamers to play as a team. the tactical flashlight doesn't just blind your opponent/team mate, it makes it so that you can't see ANYTHING on your screen whatsoever. the laser sight is fine, it doesn't really give me a problem. I have found myself either spawning right in front of an enemy, or in one case i had, behind 3 enemies trying to flank a flag. Also, it's great that you need to use team work to win, it definately adds a great feel of camaraderie to the game, but DICE expected EVERYONE to play as a team. just today i spawned at my deployment on firestorm. I saw someone climb into the attack helicopter so i ran to be his gunner, he took off with his gunner seat still empty. i then turned to our transport helicopter...same thing. the guy jumped in and took off, even with me shooting the helicopter to get him to stay.

So yes, it does have some problems but i think the pros far outweigh the cons in this game.

I think my #1 complaint in this game is the client side hit detection. there is simply no excuse for this what so ever. The numerous glitches still existing have the entire community pissed off as well of course and well it just wasn't finished. After BETA feedback they should have realized they needed to push the game back and do a giant overhaul. Everything they tried to "add" from BF2 were somewhat decent ideas in theory but in the end they all failed. Sure it looks cool to jump over objects but half the time it doesn't work. They wanted to switch up the equipment of classes and made engineer the only class that makes sense. They wanted to give LMGs bipods and suppression so now they generally fail because suppression doesn't give you stats like most people want. Sniper rifles were OP in BC2? Oh I heard it was LMGs in BC2. Everyone is going to whine about something but with piss poor hit detection and horrid hit boxes there was 0 reason to expect a sniper to get a headshot every time no matter how skilled. Oh and air battles, yes the air vehicles. It just warception. A battle within a battle. When I'm on the ground I can ignore choppers and jets but when I am in a jet I can forget about shooting anything on the ground. More destructibility? No, maybe prettier but not more. Its perfectly defined. I take out the same chunk of wall every time if I can even take it out. I can blow this up and this up but not this car or fence? I don't see why developers won't just take game mechanics that work. Change maps and update graphics and destructibility and release it. Why change so many stupid things? I love the game and am having fun. But I don't see myself dumping a year into it. Once I hit max level I am pretty sure I will be done with it. I have no faith in the FPS franchise anymore ever to release a solid game again. Expand

Alot of the maps do have alot of choke points but they themselves are useful to grind weapons that I do not like using. The graphics are THE best I have ever seen for this genre bar non. The unlock system is great, not perfect but certainly the best out there. I think they could of removed a few for some classes and added ones more suited for it (AKS-74U with 8x rifle scope). Expand

Love this game, the stunning graphics and realism never fail to amaze me. Loved BC2, and going to enjoy playing this game more as well. Even if I have to use **** origin...

i honestly dont know what some of the critics are saying about the single player campaign, but i find it to be pretty amazing. it reminds me a lot of the game "BLACK", but that's not the point. the point is that the campaign is not as bad as they say. the multiplayer is absolutely amazing, especially with the jets on some levels. of course it's a little difficult to get weapons for iti honestly dont know what some of the critics are saying about the single player campaign, but i find it to be pretty amazing. it reminds me a lot of the game "BLACK", but that's not the point. the point is that the campaign is not as bad as they say. the multiplayer is absolutely amazing, especially with the jets on some levels. of course it's a little difficult to get weapons for it because you only start out with machine guns, but it's still pretty cool to fly a jet. this game is definitely among my favorite games of the year. It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.

No, Battlefield 3 is not the best game of today. But good looking – definitely. It also has an absolutely addictive multiplayer. Who needs more? [Dec 2011]

Both a triumphant leap forward and a return to form for the Battlefield series. This is the best multiplayer shooter on PC. [Christmas 2011, p.58]
