What truly saved this game is MP, of course, not surprised. After five years of waiting this is how it should be done, and for that it got a 7. But for the SP part, which only count 3 in the total score, BF3 simply doesn't know what is the right way to make a great SP.

Excellent environments that are beautiful and include realistic sound effects. Fun to play! A clear winner over MW3. I normally prefer the single player mode in MW3, but this is the first time that MW3 fails me on that one as well... Multiplayer is, no questions asked, a BF3 domain. MW3 is just too much arcade feeling...

Graphics are excellent. Gameplay is excellent. Campaign is excellent. Multiplayer I rate a 5/10 which is what I base my review on. IMO this is an excellent game in all aspects except multiplayer. EA has done an excellent job but has forgotten the number 1 killer of multiplayer games which makes anyone other than the most addicted of children frustrated and turn the game off. While I love the game and the gameplay, the weapons, the graphics, I find the multiplayer mode totally infuriating at times. Here is why.

The game physics and weapon physics are so totally unrealistic that it is not just annoying, but just plain stupid at times.

When you are playing a sniper with a 12x scope with upgraded rifle and you are ducked just around a corner in prone position and you take 2 seconds to target someone, then to have them head shot you practically instantly with a sub machine gun from 250 yards, you just know something is wrong with the game physics altogether. This scenario can play itself out over and over and over again in this game, which will drive anyone but the most addicted of children away from multiplayer. Engineers are somewhat the biased best character role in this game because of this physics flaw. Because you can use practically any weapon as a sniper rifle and the engineer comes with a rocket launcher and equipment repair kit, the engineer class totally dominates which is nothing short of rediculous.

Nowhere in real modern warfare do you hear of the amazing engineer battling it out at the front lines wasting people except in this game.

The game physics, despite EAs tremendous experience with EA Sports and other first person shooter type games also lack duress or fatigue. So it is no problem for a player to run constantly and target people perfectly for 20 minutes straight. To be honest, games like this make me happy because I play paintball and these games lure people into the sport. They think they can run and shoot and run and shoot with perfect aim and they certainly learn the laws of fatigue and physics on the real field - because they cant hit the broad side of a barn as they are so tired and they have rented some M4 replica gun that shoots fast but is inaccurate as heck.

In this game the AI in the campaign scenarios even on hard difficulty mask this lack in physics by merely ACTING more realistically. However EA would have done the game far more justice by improving the physics and letting the AI play harder.

If I had a penny for every time I was sniped by a small sub machine pistol like a SCAR-H at significant range I would be a millionaire. It forces me to just turn off the game in frustration very often.

If this was several years ago I would have given this same game a review with a 10 rating. However EA has to get their act together when it comes to physics, the PS3 is no longer a new device nor is the genre of first person military campaign shooter.

I also must say that the controls are truly frustrating, counterintuitive, and you cannot change them. For example the fire button is the R1 button while the R2 button is the knife. This leads you in instinctive mode accidentally pulling out the knife when you are trying to shoot until you get used to it. The controls also reverse all over the place depending on what vehicle and fire mode you are in. For example when in first person mode, R1 is fire, R2 is knife, L1 is zoom and L2 is grenade. Jump in a tank however and then R1 becomes IR smoke, R2 becomes throttle, L2 becomes brake and L1 becomes fire. Switching weapons at least is stable at triangle. When you are in an aircraft the controls also jump all over the place. That granted, the game does do a decent job of telling you what the controls are as the game plays. The control system would be better if the buttons were a bit more intuitive and stable, such as R2 was always fire and L2 was always zoom and maybe when driving make the jump button throttle. I'm sure they did their best but I was playing this game extensively with two very experienced FPS gamers who have been playing FPS games for a combined 25 years and the controls took a ton of getting used to.

On the audio side the sound in general is fantstic but again in multiplayer they totally dropped the ball. There is no audio setting to shut up the squad communication system. Normally this is fine because most people dont use it but it is not uncommon to have some guy's microphone held on in vox hearing his TV and game sounds or some fool breathing like he's getting it on for the entire round which is very distracting.

Overall it is a great game, but EA could certainly do a lot better than this when it comes to physics, control setting flexibility, and audio settings and most importantly of all fatigue. You cant run 10 miles then aim like youve been sitting for 10 minutes in prone. MP mode gives inordinate advantage to those with no life.

Multi-player is good, the origin system and it's web based component are not great, but I am sure that will come along with time. I remember hating steam when it was first used. Squad based gameplay is one of my favorite aspects of this particular genre and BF3 delivers on this. Also progressive based gameplay or rush as it is called in bf3 also adds to the challenge. If you are looking for the fast paced aracade FPS games then you are better off playing COD on a console. You have to pump a whole mag into someone to kill em and get into vehicles to be competitive, seriously is this for real? The whole 'everything can be destroyed' is the only thing new in this series, but not even worth one point, because it's about the gamplay, not the ability to destroy buildings. In my opinion it's more worth it to spend your time on the the bigger game in this genre, because unlike what the BF3 fanboys giving 0 points to MW3 seem to suggest, it's a great game.

I'll start by getting the SP out of the way. It's a very mediocre, although aesthetically stunning, experience. The story is average, plagued by awful in-game cut-scenes and QTE that are obviously there to appeal to the console crowd although I doubt they enjoy them either, which results in tedious replays through small sections because the event caught you off guard. If I were lead designI'll start by getting the SP out of the way. It's a very mediocre, although aesthetically stunning, experience. The story is average, plagued by awful in-game cut-scenes and QTE that are obviously there to appeal to the console crowd although I doubt they enjoy them either, which results in tedious replays through small sections because the event caught you off guard. If I were lead design and somebody suggested QTE I would fire them on the spot, because they in no way enhance any gaming experience and are simply lazy attempts at getting the gamer to feel like they are interacting - which they obviously wanted to do here because so much of the damn thing is on rails that you don't even really feel like your SP experience has started. When you do get into some on-foot firefights it's simply a matter of enemies popping out every few seconds, kill them, move up, repeat and provides little satisfaction. When it comes to difficulty, you can forget trying to do it on 'hard', unless you want a very drawn out campaign that sees you replaying missions because of poor design rather than lack of skill, with enemies having aimbot skills and the game often telling you to run out into the open to pick up a weapon, follow an ally or get to a location, where the open results in instant death. The plot is fairly cliched although the acting is very good, and the visuals are the best in a game to date, however they can't save the rest of the single player campaign from being very 'meh'. Now for the multiplayer; it can be exciting, fast paced and feel polished. On the other hand it can also be an infuriating, frustrating and tedious experience. The hitboxes are poor, the netcode is a joke and weapon damage feels so inconsistant at times you could be forgiven for thinking you were playing halo with enemies taking 6-7-8 rounds. You could change to hardcore but then the inevitable rocket spam becomes even worse, camping becomes standard, and you're punished for pushing the objective. The spawn system is also dire with you spawning in front of enemies, enemies spawning behind you, or spawning in line of enemy fire, and this can happen several times in a row. In fact I would say the majority of my deaths in this game are down to enemies spawning either directly behind me, or in an area that I cleared only seconds ago. Maps are cramped for 64 players and switching to 32 player matches gives a more tactical game but then the maps feel empty and unlike a battlefield game, so the sweet spot is probably about 48 but at the end of the day it's that 64 player experience that players want and on maps that are suited to it. There are some weapons and gadgets that leave you questioning the devs logic at including them such as the IRNV scope which feels like a hack and every player will no doubt be using after another month or so, the mortar which sees players sitting in their base with unlimited mortar shells for entire rounds firing on choke points, and engineers that can somehow cram 10 rpg rounds up their anus (this is the only place I can think they must be hiding them). Vehicle combat works very well, although air vehicles can be tricky to control at first, once you get used to them a good pilot can dominate land and air which some players object to, but I think is fine considering how easily a few players co-ordinating an attack can easily take down aircraft. Some maps are fantastic whilst others are poor with chokepoints and rocket spam being the tactic of the day. Players will quickly decide on which maps they like/dislike, however I've found most players tend to agree on which are good and bad. The classes all have a reasonably balanced degree of usefulness, recons perhaps less so unless in an organised squad/team. You will find yourself raging at times when other players incompetence/disregard for teamwork raises its head (which is often), driving off leaving you on-foot running behind their vehicle trying to get in (and other similar situations such as not repairing/reviving/dropping kits), but this is a problem with players and not the game. The sound is fantastic, whether it's weapons, vehicles or explosions, it really is top notch and adds to the immersion both in SP and MP, so cudos to DICE there. Despite its flaws it is enjoyable overall and although it doesn't feel like it will have the longevity of other classic shooters, it should still provide a good multiplayer fps experience for a fair amount of time. Hopfully the back to karkand release should ensure that Expand

My gripe is with the mandatory installation of Origin. A terribly glitchy program required to play BF3 at all unless you use a hack to get around it which no consumer should have to do just to play a dam game that they've spent 40 quid on. Origin's EULA states that it collects data from your pc including post code, IP address, installed software and hardware and a few more things which it reserves the right to share with its "third partys" without our consent as consumers. I do not believe that wanting to play a video game online entitles them to this kind of personal information and on that base alone whilst Origin remains a mandatory component of all future EA releases i will refuse to purchase any products at all from the company whatsoever.

I may perhaps continue buying products in the future if Origin is removed and a formal apology is sent to the world from EA for all the customers they're losing through this gross display of power hunger.

Until then EA can shove Origin...

The game looks astonishing however and the engine is by far and away the best looking game ever released it's just such a same that Dice never considered that people need to actually play a game while drooling at how pretty and shiny the world looks.
The key tactic to winning is to stay as far south as you can because anyone who isn't using night vision glasses (yes they block the sun out for some reason) won't be able to see anything as in this game everyone has cameras for eyes and despite being able to field millions of dollars of hardware apparently neither army can provide sun glasses... yes, the new feature in the engine is lens flare and dazzling so dice are determined to make you suffer as much as they possibly can.
Bringing us to the flash lights, quickly dubbed **** by the community, these were purely included for griefing reasons. They somehow manage to provide less light to the operators then the dim flashlights in left for dead yet anyone looking at them will have light blinding them with such intensity that they will feel like someone is trying to drill into their eyes to install their own personal supernova, you can inadvertently blind your own team if you forget to turn it off and might not even notice in anything but a pitch black room because the user sees 5 candle light yet observers see 2000000 candle power.
The game is very harsh and anyone new to the battlefield games is going to have a lot of deaths and frustrations but once again the game is fun and compelling proving the strength of the core ideas here.

Netcode is a little less buggy then previous games but still a long way from perfect.

I reload battlelog at least once a day in hopes of making it work again (it doesn't-- I have to exploit glitches like having a friend message me to make it work.) Origin and Battlelog should exclude each other. There's no reason to have an in-browser launch system for a game with it's own launch client-- ignoring the fact that by and large, Origin works just fine( --hasn't crashed on me).
I have to express complaints about updating your character model. You can't change it in-game, just through the infamous Battlelog.
Team chat is very large and blocks a full 25% of my screen; I still haven't been able to figure out voice chatting with my teammates (I wish it was like tf2), so I've been forced to use a 3rd party application.
Aside from those, it's fantastic. Squads actually aren't too bad, and I love mp to death.
But please, oh please fix Battlelog. I just want to play the game.

About Origin, it not that EA wanted to make more money on their platform it was due to service agreements with steam, not allowing EA to release patches as soon as they release and make everything complicated, this was also the case for games like minecraft not on steam. if you guys are not playing the game coz of origin then you are truly missing out on a great title. origin is not part of the game, it was clearly not DICE's decision to make, plus if you were really annoyed by origin there is always tools to bypass it. The game is designed to entertaining for hours on online multi player, if all you gona play is single player than dont buy it. Seriously though, the entire package of Battlefield 3 is probably the most satisfying gaming experience in quite awhile. I decided to write a review of my own after reading some of the mixed things others had to say. Look, we all have our preferences for different styles of games, and if you aren't a fan of FPS games, why would you even bother? This game is meant to be played online with your friends (if you have them). I have never played a game that felt so completely and utterly, EPIC. The single player... blah blah whatever. It's fun for a play through, and it's pretty and all that, but who cares? You didn't buy this game for the campaign, did you?! If you did, and you were disappointed then I'm sorry, and better luck next time. Okay, so the online experience; the meat of the game: Challenging, extremely fun, beautiful, rewarding, and a heap of other adjectives I could also pile on there, but in the end, amazing is the only one needed. The environments are completely astounding. You'll hear a jet smack into the ground and explode, a rocket whiz past your face, bullets coming from every direction, and it's scary sometimes. The lighting is unbelievable. Didn't your mom tell you not to look directly at the sun? It can actually blind you! (Well, at least your soldier). Come running out of a building or tunnel and it takes a bit for your eyes to adjust. Did I mention that you can blow things up?! Boom!!! The feeling I get when my squad and I are taking fire from the enemy while hunkered next to a blown up oil tanker; running and diving to get to cover; providing suppressive fire for the rest of my team to advance... it's unmatched by other games. There's vehicles too! Folks, I can't say enough good things about this game, but I can say one thing. GIVE IT A CHANCE. It may be extremely frustrating at times, but put in the time and effort that it takes to learn this game and you will be rewarded heavily. Battlefield 3, in all of its greatness, also has some flaws. I can't really think of any, but I'm sure it does. To those of you who gave this game a low score (anything less than an 8, in my opinion), come down off your mountain top and design a better gaming experience for the masses. At this moment, there are no comparisons. If you want to play sometime, my screen name is Gungis. Expand

This has got to be the most awesome game i have ever played. In every single way possible its just epic, from the graphics, to the sounds, to the over all gameplay.

There is so much more going on in this game than there is in any shooter game i ever played before. It even beats Bad Company 2, which i thought a game never could. love it.

Installing and running EAs very own spyware, Origin, is compulsory in order to play. Origin scans your personal data, including documents and tax returns. According to the EULA, EA can use this data however they want, including selling it to other companies. This is unlawful, outrageous, absolutely, totally unacceptable!! Also, the game isn't that great, either.

This is not BF3 in any real sense of the title. It is a lousy rendition of bad company 2 or as its come to be known in the interwebs, bad company 2.5. It's CLEARLY a console port with weak and very limited controls. Origin is a nightmare and battle log is terribad. No main menu, no squad voip built in so multiplayer is chaos.

Battlefield 3 should be the modernized and direct evolution version of Battlefield 2 and not a completely new and so different game. People are playing Battlefield 3 and saying that is the best game in the series but this is a lie. Wait a few months to see a change of opinion, when the fever of Battlefield 3 has passed and those same people will stop comparing Modern Warfare 3 with Battlefield 3. No Battlefield game will have the same experience of Modern Warfare and vice versa. These two franchises are completely different and for those who have not noticed, Battlefield 2 is a War Simulator, more realistic and complete than any other war game. As we would say, a Gran Turismo of shooter games. Battlefield 3 is good, fast, modern, has an updated arsenal, great looking BUT.. you will play it for hours and you will not have that "Battlefield 2 feel" . In other words, you will not feel that has found your place in the battle. And that you are part of a team and an Army. These things, my friend, make Battlefield 2 better than any other FPS game outhere! I personally expected more of Battlefield 3 and I not believed when I saw this game was not a sequence. No commander, terrible aircrafts, bad spot and squad features AND the huge hole in BF3: the Battlelog Server Browser, most uncomfortable feature I have ever seen for years! DICE have so much time to create the sequel to Battlefield 2 and the help of Frostbyte Engine of Bad Company 2 and yet, they release a game full of errors, because even change the configuration of the mouse or joystick in the game can be a problem! You press a button on the mouse and nothing happens! I really sorry, I am a Battlefield 2 core fan, and in my point of view, this game stinks!
