I play a lot of FPS on Xbox 360. I gave this a very low score; here is why:
    1) I bought this to play multiplayer with friends. The servers put us on different teams 100% of the time... there's a "switch team" option, but it typically says "you can't" do it. 2) Big learning curve, no tutorial, rotten interface, no instructions except random online wikis players have written.

The singleplayer tries to much to hook up with the Call of Duty franchise and besides the amazing graphics it is just mediocore. The Coop is a nice addition if you have a good friend you can play with. However, its the multiplayer thats unleashes the true Battlefield feeling like you never experienced before. The atmosphere on a 64 player multiplayer map like Caspian Border (my favorite) or Gulf of Oman (one of the maps in the B2K addon) is just indescribable and a experience you shouldnt miss when bullets fizz over your head, tanks causing mayhem and epic jet dogfights in the air. What I personally miss are the shouts from the soldiers that you had in Bad Company 2. The motivation to keep playing is very high, there is a bunch of weapons, attachments, class specific equipment and perks to unlock. Weapons can be modified in every way and depending on the situation you can build your AK rifle to an deadly close range weapon with an reflex sight and silencer or to an sniper rifle with an 8x scope and an muzzle break. But be careful when you attach a laser pointer or the taclight as they compromise your position from a very far distance making you to dog food for every sniper. The classes are well balanced except the sniper which has a curious bug with the MAV drone as he can use it as an elevator to reach higher positions ;-)
The assault class has become the medic but seems to perish on large and widely open conquest maps again the engineer is the most powerful class on this maps as he can take on easily enemy tanks and jets/ helicopters. There are still some major bugs and it very annoying when you drive with a tank over small stones it gets very bumby making it impossible to shoot precisely. Also there are situations where enemies can spawn right behind you. But the real thread comes from hackers, cheaters that push unnoticeable their stats and also, can hack your account. Yes, last week there has been an hacker attack on Punkbuster where hundreds of players were banned, including me. The case was solved 3 days later when a new Punkbuster update was released. Origin is nothing more than EA trying to keep up with the big successor of digital distributed games, Steam. But the biggest fail goes to Battlelog. Battlefield 3 has no title screen. If you launch the game you get to the Battlelog site in your webbroser. You could say its the Facebook of Battlefield. Friends can comment on your stats, unlocks and whatever. There are way to many stats that are useless and it has also a forum that tends to close threads to quickly and make everyone muzzle who says something against EA/ DICE. Also the staff and users tend to be very arrogant if you're not a pro.

So why no 10 for Battlefield 3? One of the biggest problems in this game is that the actual Battlefield is absolutely not clear, that said, there are no clear frontlines, everyone is just everywhere and it reminds more of a chaotic battle from WW2 than a modern warfare battle. It keeps just happening that you think the coast is clear and suddenly someone will shoot you from behind, by the way if you play infantry 90% of your deaths will be from people that shot you in the back ;-)

But if you play with good teammates that are watching your back, it can be an unique experience!

I love everything about how this game should play. If I could play it all day long with friends, I probably would. But I can't. Punkbuster took me out of BF3 all this week after a known security flaw was finally abused. The awful Origin web-based Steam-wannabe launching platform boots me from whatever server I'm in about once per hour. The game freezes and crashes about once per two hours, separate from Origin. The amount of deaths sustained in any 4 hour marathon play session from bugs, glitches, and most notably from hackers requires constant effort to find an enjoyable server. Nothing from EA, Dice, or punkbuster has removed the massive amount of cheating on PC play. Just look at the leaderboards Origin gives you. None are legit.

This game was going to be absolutely huge upon release. Everyone knew that. EA was going to make a fortune on this game no matter what, and their preference to take extra net income over spending a few million bucks to make this game work is very obvious. Steam anti cheat has worked properly for many years, as has their delivery system and platform. EA elected not to use that system this time around, obviously to make even more money. The cash grab that is Origin is fine, if it works properly!!! It doesn't. At all. When the gaming community hands you a billion dollars of our money, we shouldn't have to deal with such issues. We should all be talking about balancing issues, new items, new maps, how to further improve such a great release, but the only thing the BF3 forum produces is complaints of stability, complaints about hacking, complaints about bugs, etc. We are far beyond the initial release kinks that every massive selling game will endure. EA's traditional business model of spamming out a game with a higher number behind the title to make more money on the franchise continues, and I won't be suckered into buying another unless I read how stable and flawless the game is 3-6 months after release.

I think it's pretty dumb that you need to open origin then just to click the play button in an internet browser page once more. Basically extra steps for nothing just to get into multiplayer. On top of that the initial load time (first time entering a match) it takes at least 3-5 minutes to load. After that load time is minimal.

Overall glad to see Modern Warfare having some competition on the market finally.

With a game like this, it's easier to describe what's wrong--anything I don't mention you can assume is awesome. So with the multiplayer...your biggest problem might just be the sheer intimidation factor. There is so much to do and so much pressure from your teammates to pitch in that you might wish for the clean individualism of Call of Duty. But fear not--this is your game. Experiment. Try different classes. Try different vehicles. Jump in that chopper and crash into the mountainside because it will look really cool when you do it. Buy this game.

Very realistic feel for weapons and feeling an actual kick when you fire, and their sounds. Beyond these things, i found the interface terrible, me and my 3 friends could make a squad, but half the time when we entered the game it would drop someone. so we'd try again, then one of us would be on the other team. then after that game we thought ok when we get to lobby we'll leave and enter a new one....oh wait there isnt a lobby, you have to wait until a whole new game starts and loads before you can leave? What about editing your class, you can't do that pregame either unless you back out to main page, i just wanna change one thing, and i don't wanna leave my game to do it. Guess i'll just do it while my friends are hopping in that humvee, oh wait their on the other team again.....good thing we had a fifth, he can stay on my team. Then i distinctly remember literally turning on my system four or five times because i would try to change class and would spawn without a weapon...i could run around and stuff, but couldn't shoot or throw grenades, and didn't see the barrel of a gun. I understand the deathmatch maps are small, but is it intentionally spawning me in gunfire? I mean CoD does this sometimes to but its more like bad timing there, i couldn't help but feel as though the game literally hated me sometimes and would spawn me to die a second later. Either way, i bought MW3 and BF3. I returned BF3. This game had MW3 beat hands down for (graphics/unlock-ables/realism/sound/vehicles), except for things that i just couldn't get past whether they be small or or not. I think i was like level 40 or so, i didn't spend a great deal of time playing the game but i was annoyed by the squad problems and lobby thing the most because i bought the game to play with my friends and brother. Would have been interesting if they added a health system similar to Red Orchestra 2. And the series hasn't really evolved lately, it looks and plays better then ever before, but it is basically the same sort of content that was back in 1942, 64 player conquest maps (altough TDM & SQM is also fun). It's campaign is boring, but it's okay for practicing the controls. Co-op is also okay, and you can unlock weapons for MP in co-op. Multiplayer is where it really shines.

One downside is that it forces you to use Battlelog in PC; but it's not that big of a deal.

It has its awesome moments here and there, but fails to deliver an emotionally gripping story that war movie lovers (Blackhawk Down, The Hurt Locker) like myself crave. The game's launch was also incrediblly buggy and rushed, with at least two of the maps having quite a few problems in terms of balance. However, patches have long since killed bugs, crashing issues, and rampant screen flickering. All you get is a sad singleplayer experience with a completely unfair, unbalance multiplayer. Where 90% you are outmatch simply because the opposite player has more equipment than you. There is so much customization that it completely destroys balance. Out of all the Battlefield games I've played, no, out of all the FPS multiplayers I've played this has to be the biggest pile of ridiculous I've been on. Where with previous Battlefield games destruction was a staple in the Battlefield diet it's now just a simple appetizer offering barely any destruction. With the ridiculous amount of customization, limited destruction, and huge maps where it would take hours to actually find any action you are left with just the spawn screen due to the incisive problem of camping. You thought it was bad in *insert game* you have no idea how bad it is in this game. You're expected to find someone prone on the ground in a bush on a map the size of Texas and only after you had to run 3 mile to a place just to get killed, sent back to GO, do not collect $200. Some people may argue "Oh you're not playing it right, be patient, don't leave your base", I bought this game for the action element in a First Person Shooter not a First Person Hide and Seek in a bush for 2 hours. Players on other FPS don't nearly camp this hard, not even in Modern Warfare! Save yourself the trouble and DO NOT waste your money on this game! Blackburn, a marine in detention (you'll find out why later in the game) two men interrogate him throughout the campaign, you see the choices he and his squad makes, you'll see other solders like Lt. Hawkins, tank driver Miller, and Russian opratives trying to find their missing nukes, Oh yea, missing nukes, its not the best story but battlefield 3 does the story in a unique way making it better than some of the others. The voice acting, lip syncing, sound, and graphics are awesome! A technical marble! The presentation is amazing. The main miss from the campaign is that it feels like a different game, also its only 4-5 hours, meaning the campaign won't fully prepare you for multiplayer, you wont know how to fly jets, helicopters, jeeps, you only get to drive a tank. I mainly played the game for the multiplayer, I like the multiplayer but there are serious issues. Like the hit detection, its bad. Sometimes it will be good, others, well.... ex: you empty your clip into someone just for them to shoot you once and your dead, its annoying. The co op is fun but lacking since there are only six missions don't worry though their fun and one mission will let you practice flying a helicopter. Battlefield has always been about team work and BF3 has ok team work, I've noticed that on the PS3 and PC version people especially work as a team. This campaign looks like a game from 1996. How could this happen? O M G what a terrible way to ruin a reputation. Total fiasco. I'm not even gonna try the game on line after this.

For those of you who said the graphics suck... you must be running something lower than an 8800 GTS or you don't know how to adjust graphics. Gameplay is amazing, sounds are too realistic and the multiplayer is beautiful. Singleplayer was eh and the Origin idea was garbage. 10000x better than CoD.

The campaign is not only frustrating but littered with bugs and annoyances. If one more NPC ally pushes me out of the way and into enemy fire I don't know what I'll do. It has its moments and cool scenes but the majority of it is boring and highly repetitive. I'd say it's worth a single playthrough just to stare in awe at the visuals. But no one buys a BF game for the single player. I'm happy to say that BF3 MP is what BF2 fans have been waiting for. While many of the original maps were not suited for 64 players save for 2 or 3 the Back to Karkand expansion does a wonderful job of filling that gap with HUGE classic levels and even more destructoid. What I am really happy to see DICE improve on is the infantry gunplay. Battlefields weak point was always the infantry combat but they really went above and beyond here. The biggest dissapointment doesn't have anything to do with the game but I feel should be mentioned here. This is a game that really requires teamwork and unfortunately most players seem to be selfish and only play for themselves. I am sick and tired of seeing someone run into an APC and drive off by himself when you have 7 people needing a ride. People just don't seem to work together but when you get into that rare server with those one of a kind teams it can be a real blast. Of course Origin has been a big controversy but honestly I like it. Getting into a game is so fast for me but then again I am using an SSD so I don't know how long the whole process takes for mechanical drive users. Expand

NOTE: THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT BATTLEFIELD 3 IN IT'S CURRENT STATE (WITH BACK TO KARKAND).

I will admit upfront that I am a longtime Battlefield fan. I have owned and sunk many hours into every Battlefield ever made (including modern combat). I will also admit that I am not a fan of Call of Duty. I enjoyed all of the games up to Call of Duty 4, but after that, it became too fast paced and competitive to enjoy.

Now, with that out of the way, I am NOT going to base this review on whether Battlefield is better than Call of Duty, nor will I base it on the previous Battlefield games. This review is meant to help someone who does not care about either franchise make an informed purchasing decision.

Graphics (9/10): The graphics in this game are beautiful. While they are not the most beautiful I have ever seen, they do an amazing job of making you feel integrated into the game world. I love the fire effects, I love the detail work, I love the shaders. However, they decided to put a blue-ish tinted filter on. It may not be noticeable at first, but eventually you will be all like, "Hey! Everything in this game is blue!" there was a great article explaining all of the post processing they did, and the blue is supposed to evoke emotion while playing (or something). However, my biggest complaint about graphics would have to be the sun glare. If you are facing the sun or trying to shoot at a helicopter in the air, you will be almost completely blinded by the sun glare. I would have given graphics an 8/10, however the fact that DICE created a whole new engine and made revolutionary graphics for the first time in years gives them that extra boost. Do research into a new GPU if you haven't already, this game is demanding.

Sound (10/10): The sound in this game is excellent. From rounds whizzing past your head, the crack of stray bullets striking the concrete, or even the echoes of your gunfire being reverberated off of the distant scenery gives this game an intense atmosphere. Vehicles sound like vehicles. Guns are loud and thick. helicopters have different effects depending on where you are in relation to them. I could go on and on about the sound because the sound, in my opinion, is unrivaled. If you were considering buying a sound card for this game, do it. And buy surround sound too.

Multiplayer gameplay (8/10): Since the campaign and the multiplayer are so drastically different, I am splitting them into two separate parts. The multiplayer is fantastic. In cooperative, there are 6 missions for you and one other person to play through. In multiplayer, there are APCs, tanks, helicopters, jets, jeeps, anti-air, boats, and even forklifts. Even if vehicles are not your thing, the infantry combat feels very effective with 4 diverse classes. The game has a variety of game modes including rush, conquest, team deathmatch, squad deathmatch, and squad rush. In all, I am impressed with the multiplayer. However, there are some significant flaws which the developers have failed to take care of (as of yet). For one, there is no balancing mechanism. I understand that dedicated servers dominate the list, but there needs to be some kind of balancing mechanism present. I cannot count the number of times I have been put on a team who is losing 15 to 300. It gets very frustrating as one team will just plow the other round after round after round. Also, there is no spawn protection. I know that many people do not like the idea of spawn protection, but eventually after spawning and being immediately killed before even having the chance to move, they will warm up to it. There are a few more flaws involved, but those are the most glaring.

Single-player gameplay (4/10): If you are considering dropping the $60 on this game just for the single-player - Don't. The campaign was O-K. Sometimes I really enjoyed it, other times I wanted to pull my hair out. There is no reward or recognition for completing the campaign. The story was somewhat confusing, and the characters were very uninspired. If anyone has any military or LE background, the techniques the (spoiler) interrogators use are glaringly wrong. Just skip past it. Interface (6/10): If you are purchasing this for the PC, you will HAVE to use Origin, and you will HAVE to use Battlelog (a website from which you launch the game). Why the developers thought this was a good idea is beyond me. At first it seemed impossibly evil, however it is beginning to grow on me. In-game the interface is somewhat clunky, but acceptable. DICE has already made adjustments improving the interface with patches, but they have a ways to go.

Overall: Ignoring the single-player entirely, this game receives an 8.25/10. The multiplayer is fun, the graphics are beautiful, the sound is eerily realistic, and there are many things to unlock. If you are looking for a new FPS experience, this is the game for you. And for the BF fanboys: This is not BC3; this is not the BF2 sequel. This is BF3.

A lot of people are really hating on this game, and I can sort of see why. The single-player is basically another "shoot-shoot-shoot-cover-tank setpiece-shoot" game, sort of like Call of Duty. However, what it lacks in innovation it makes up for with fun gunplay and very tactical gameplay. The multiplayer, on the other hand, is what makes the game for some and breaks for others.

However, what it lacks in innovation it makes up for with fun gunplay and very tactical gameplay. The multiplayer, on the other hand, is what makes the game for some and breaks for others.
To start, the games battlelog.com client is just ridiculous. It's like a main menu, but in your web browser and thus absolutely pointless. It's great that it controls the entirety of BF3, which is something I hated about the new Call of Duty games (having to launch a different player for multiplayer) but when you have to "launch" your web browser from Origin and then launch the game from your browser, it gets really dumb really fast.
Also, in the multiplayer is a very steep learning curve. You'll find yourself getting very few kills and many deaths for the first few games you play, getting shot instead by people you can't see or getting blown up by missiles because you have no IR Flares.
Once you get past this curve, though, you'll find a very deep and extremely fun tactical shooter. PC players have an advantage over console players in that the warzones can be up to double the size of console games, and of course a filtered server browser. Managing bullet drop with sniper rifles is easy to learn but very hard to master, and mechanics such as flying jets or helicopters have similar skill requirements (If you expect air vehicles to go forward with W, you are sadly mistaken, friend).
In short, if you are the type of person who enjoys a lot of simple, frantic gunfights and being a one-man army, then Battlefield 3 is the wrong game for you. But if you can put time into the game, you'll find a multiplayer experience pretty much incomparable to Call of Duty.

The co-op maps deserve one go around just to unlock those guns you may want and to see the levels then you shelf those as well. But the multiplayer, oh man the multiplayer; that is where you will spend your BF3 life. 64 player large conquest maps is what makes this game amazing. Dog fights between jets high above you, choppers buzzing the roof or silo you are recon-ing from, and tanks/jeeps/IFVs whizzing past you as your infantry trudge out onto the battlefield; these things will nearly distract you from the fact that you are about to be shot at and you are going to need to find some cover. If you are just playing Public servers and not really communicating with your squad or team then the game will feel a bit sluggish and more like a kill-fest rather than a tactical game. But if you get a group of buddies and actually comm with them then this game takes on a whole new light. Multiplayer has so many unlocks, so many vehicles, and so many things that can happen that you will keep coming back way past hitting max level (which will take you a suspected 400 hours to accomplish in full). The bad? Single player is a token effort. For multiplayer you are forced to have both Origin and Battlelog running to play, which is short-sighted by the devs. The game is not perfect, there is the occasional minor design quirk or bug, but nothing gamebreaking. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battlefield 3 is everything you were expecting, amazing graphics and sound design, huge and destructible maps filled with amazing detail (even on low settings), a fun Co-Op and a small but very entertaining Single Player. Some spoilers and long text incoming... First off, the Battlefield 3 Single Player. Battlefield 3 Single Player is far better than what I was expecting, all the critics saying that it was "cliché" and "boring in some points", but the truth is that Battlefield 3 campaign is really good. The Single-player starts with a bang, and then it slows a little bit. When the story started to slowdown I was I starting to think that the critics were correct, but right after the earthquake mission the the story just got serious and better, I was getting really entertained by it. The cut-scenes were well made and with good performances. The story has a lot of twists and and strong emotional points, witch all of them were very well made, but if you want to understand it, you need to be really concentrated. The campaign is really good and entertaining but it suffers from some bugs, A.I problems and the biggest of my complain, it is too much short. I finish this campaign in 3/4 hours, it might be short but it was entertaining. The Co-Op is very useful for the Multiplayer. It is really fun, entertaining and hard. The Co-Op is also short but each mission is different. The most fun might the chopper gunner, one controls the helicopter and the other is giving covering fire for two squads moving through the village. In the Co-Op you receive points that unlock some useful weapons that you can use in the Multiplayer. The Multiplayer is were Battlefield 3 really shines. Battlefield 3 Multiplayer is by far the best online experience I had (and still having) in 2011, this multiplayer just raised the barrier of FPS shooters in every perspective. The maps are huge and very detailed and the sound effects are top-notch. But this is a small part of this multiplayer experience. The biggest part is the freedom of choice, you can drive tanks, Humvees, jeeps and fly helicopter and jets. But the freedom does not stop here, with the power of Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 multiplayer maps are fully destructible. a camper hiding in a house near a wall? No problem, just put an RPG, a Tank or anything explosive into work and blow that wall! If that is not enough, just make the house crumble into pieces and dust. The destruction in Battlefield 3 is a real step forward from Bad Company 2. In Battlefield 3, when you start a match the maps are really amazing and detailed, in the end it´s just a pure chaos, in other words, it´s a full battlefield.Unlike some other FPS shooters, in Battlefield 3 you will need to work with your team, being a lone wolf wont help your team win the match. What surprised me most in battlefield 3 multiplayer is the unlocking system, it´s really easy to use and each weapon/vehicle/jets/Helicopters have a lot of unlocks. Before I talk about battlelog, battlefield's multiplayer also has some annoying things and problems in but they will not take away this amazing experience. Now it´s time for the Battlelog service provided by EA. First off, I don´t like that much Origin, but it is in beta stage and in the future it can be better. The Battlelog is where you start the Single Player/Multiplayer/Co-Op modes, in the Beta was not even impressed by the Battlelog, but now I think it is good and very easy to use. In battlelog is so easy to check your stats, unlocking progression, matches, dog tags, etc. In four clicks you can join a multiplayer match with a friend or alone. The stats are all there and you can even check every information of any weapon. You can chat and see your friends progression and stats and even comment every progression that he made during a match, and all of this is for free. For me Battlelog is very simple to use and it is what it was suppose to be, but it has some problems and it can be upgraded with some new things and improvements. This is the deepest and honest review I could have made for Battlefield 3, I made clear all the good points and the bad points, I know I am going to have a some haters down votes but I don´t care that much. The campaign is short but still very entertaining and epic with some very varied and challenging missions. Co-op offers seperate missions and equally diverse and unique challenges.

The one glaring issue with this game is the 'Battlelog' system. It is clearly EA pushed experimental garbage and makes actually playing this amazing game a pain in the ass. However, this game deserves to be played despite it's atrocious browser based menu system.

The storyline is so cliché that In the middle of the game I've already knew how the storyline will end. There is a number of bags and glitches.
Also I found the singelplayer very linear, You cant go to a random vehicle and speaking of witch there is barely missions that include vehicles but the big thing that I was disappointed is exploration, sure this is after all a Third person shooter however I wish Dice had let us to explore this amazing game wich brings me to another thing. The good thing that everybody and I mean EVERYBODY WILL AGREE (even the call of duy fans) is that the graphcis are the best we seen so far (yes even better than crysis 2 and rage).
another thing to say is that the sound of this game is stunning, Any gun fire, massive explosions and bullets that past your head sounds and almust feels like the real thing wich is give that realistic feel that you're going to a real war. As I say from the start the real deal is the multiplayer wich is by far the best multiplayer you can find on the market and heres 5 reasons why: 1.Exploration- Unlike the singelplayer you can explore alot of stuff in battlefield 3 multiplayer wich is a big suprise, Exploration can help you for your strategy and sometimes its just fun to find some weird easter egg.

2.Background- There is nothing like seen a burning city at night when everybody just shooting at each other or seen a deserts, water, trees and anything that mother nature created, also the lighting of this game looks like the real thing.

3.Diffrent ways to play- In battlefield 3 you dont have to be a pro or even average player to win points on this game for example lets just say you are not a great shooter player and you choose the medic, you can use the medic kit and help people that have low health or even revive your teammates.

4.Strategy- Battlefield 3 us the latest frostbite version wich is mean that wells, windowns and even buildings can break or even fall down so you need to think fast wich making the game more strategic, Now you cant camp for about a hour you need to keep moving and bulid a strategy while playing the game. this game really test your skills and even your brain.

    5. Spawns- The special thing about spawning in battlefield 3 is that you can spawn at your group that you join in the game, the material makes it much more fun but be careful if your team is in no win situation dont spawn and kill yourself, also if you find a jet, tank or any vehicle you can spawn on the base. Bottom line + The best Multiplayer you can ever ask + amazing grapchis +Sound -Camping -Storyline
    -Bags and glitches

BF3 is my all-time favorite. It has it all. The multitude of vehicles are a joy to drive and pilot. The weapons choices and upgrades adds enough variety to find your niche guns of choice. The graphics are fantastic and near life-like with destructible environments. The game emphasis on teamwork in your squad is quite good - your perks and loadouts really help your squad overall and you get rewarded for your efforts. While I can get knifed like everyone else and hammered from an m249 in the blink of an eye, I don't feel the frustration - it makes me be more cautious at times to support my squad. All the games dynamics work together for a very positive experience. The feel of the game is perfect for me and highly recommend it over the competition. Expand

Campaign: I began by trying to set up my keys to how I usually bind them. I've always been able to bind mouse keys, until BF3. So now my knife attack is somewhere else on the keyboard, leaving it useless in a melee situation. A bigger problem with the campaign was that I couldn't even play to the ending! For some reason, I have a glitch that kills me on the subway on the last level every time. I played that damn subway about 60 times before saying F-it, I give up. At which point I picked up the multiplayer, which is why I bought the game in the first place.

Multiplayer: Here's where I lost my shyte. First off, the graphics on a map this large are completely lacking. In fact, I felt the graphics brought me back to 2001 Ghost Recon type stuff. I wasn't happy, but figured it was due to the epic size of the map, so I overlooked it. Then the game play fail started. Let me begin by saying that I'm a good first person shooter on multiplayer. I'm usually a top 3 team player on whatever game I pick up. This game left me with a negative kill/death ratio all the time. I understand there's a learning curve, but the slower I go and stop from "runnin n gunnin" the more I got picked off. The vehicle controls plain out suck, so I stopped using them. Must take a crackhead to figure that crap out and it's totally counter intuitive. I pick up a sniper rifle, take aim, BANG, a bloody hit! But wait, the guy's still running, BANG BANG, two more hits! Wait, still running? WTF? 3 second later, I'm running to cut him off and take one sniper bullet and I'm dead. Really? REALLY???

Sorry, I will never buy another BF game. Origin can take the money and stuff it, I'm uninstalling and I'm giving the game and my account to someone I hate.

First let me say that I'm a huge fan of the Battlefield series. I didn't buy BF3 to stomp it. I'm also not giving up on the game just yet. But there are some gameplay dynamics that really have me frustrated.

1.) Weapon upgrades make it a frustrating grind for new players. The weapons for new players are so inferior that they don't really stand a chance against the better weaponry/accessories... let alone better weaponry/accessories wielded by someone with 100 hrs more playing time than you. BF2 BC had it right. There should be an incremental jump between default and unlocked weapons... better weapons should help you go from 10 -12 to 12-10. Not 4-14 to 14-4.

It makes tactics worthless because it takes 2-3 times longer to kill players with better weaponry. So even when you shoot them from the side or back, they have time to turn around and waste you no problem.

2.) Terrain physics. At first I was all for how it's difficult to see enemy players on the terrain compared to BF2 BC. Seemed way more realistic and tactical. Unfortunately, the ability to hide encourages lots of camping. Players are invisible in shadows and completely disappear in foliage. For a lot of players it means bush league tactics. Maybe this is my video card setup but I don't think so.

3.) Maps. The maps are super detailed. But the abundance of nooks encourage camping. The unbalanced weapons for new players compounds this like crazy.

4.) Mini map on hard core. This is also another killer of tactical game play. Why should you be smart about out tactical positioning when you can just look at the minimap and see where opponents pop up? Granted, I have access to the mini map too. I could use it. But I don't want to because it takes me out of the gameplay experience. In the past BFs I liked the fact that I could rank high because I played a smart game. Now the game just feels like a dumbed down run around like a chicken with your head cut off spray fest.

5.) Net code. I'm tired of shooting others 4 or 5 times and then dying when it seems like they shot me once. Or dying when I'm on the other side of an impenetrable barrier.

6.) At medium or long distance, BF2 BC rewards controlled bursts of fire. It really made the game play feel tight/smart. BF3 rewards going full auto all the time... especially with the upgraded weaponry where there is little to no recoil. This makes the game (namely HC mode) feel way less tactical. It cheapens it.

6.) Overall, the gameplay feels out of control compared to BF2 BC. It doesn't feel like a team mounting an attack on another team. Its a bunch of individuals running around on full auto killing other individuals with inferior weaponry. I know BF2 BC had it's flaws, but what it did as a whole was to create a sense of narrative in a battle. You could feel the eb an flow of the battles and because of that it often encouraged players to fight strategically even if they weren't intending to play as a team.

I would go back to BF2 BC if there new maps released on a semi-regular basis. As it is, the same old maps are growing old. Maybe it's time to pull some old FPS's out of the bin and see what they offer as far as smart tactical game play.

The game play is great! it feels like you are in an actual battle especially on dark maps when you can see the bullets flying past you. The sounds are immaculate, put on some good quality headphones and take off in a jet and you'll know what im talking about. The single player seemed to excel where Bad company 2 did poorly but did poorly where bad company 2 excelled if that makes any sense. In Bad company 2, you knew the characters from the cut scenes and knew exactly what was going on but the story line was shallow and cliche. Bf3's story line was deeper and had a twist but the characters were under developed and i felt no sadness when two of my "best friends" died or when i had to kill my commanding officer. Multi-player is fun and action packed with walls crumbling around around as well as buildings from indirect fire. Game features a decent Single Player campaign with a good story mixed with a mainly Multi-player engaged game. Dozens of unlockables through Assignments as well as weapon mastery just make Battlefield 3 one of best first person shooters available. Destruction however has been scaled back slightly from its Battlefield Bad Company 2 (Which used the first Frostbite engine) for more of a strategic value. As what happened in Battlefield Bad Company 2 the terrain that was once a city if your on a urban environment was basically left in ruin at the end with no viable structures standing. Some see this as a step backwards however I see it as more of a strategy implementation. The sounds are amazing with more realistic sounds with it either be the snaps of bullets wizzing past your head or the sound of bullets impacting concrete near you it sounds very close to being real life. Destruction on the new DLC is amazing as well with the game being pretty balanced in terms of guns and the rock paper scissors game of vehicle warfare. With the magnitude of warfare alone this game makes the other game of a similar name look like child's play (Modern Warfare 3). This game is a true Modern Warfare game with a very wide spectrum of warfare from infantry to air to air and air to ground combat as well as vehicle combat. If your looking for a shooter with a purpose other than to kill the enemy this is the game for you. If your looking for a game with a full spectrum combat and massive chaos this is for you. If your looking for a game that just runs around and kills people for a higher body count for "Bragging rights" this really isn't ur game. Walls cumble, ground gets deformed and buildings come falling down.

With the multitude of game modes there should be enough for everyone's preference.

Conquest and Conquest large is basically a Take and Hold game centered around a set of flags.
Rush is an attack and defend game primarily around a set of defined objectives (Usually 2 MCOM Stations) that need to be attacked to advance and as the defended, needs to be defended to win.

Squad DM and Team DM sounds as it is. Squad DM is a Squad-Based Death Match where as Team DM is a infantry on infantry warfare with the objective to make the other team run out of tickets first (Tickets = Spawn count).

Battlefield 3 is an awesome vehicle based combat game that is heavy on chaos and destruction compared to the other watered down shooters that came out the same year.

It has silly spawn points, the patches that 'balance' the game are ridiculous. I say that because I can hit a helicopter with a stinger like 3 times and it just shrugs it off. It's just furiating to play, people are more concerned with KD ratios and kills, as opposed to team based play. Ruined the franchise in my opinion, too much emphasis on trying to beat COD when it should be in it's own league as there isn't a comparison. Expand

I do not regret buying it, even though it has some minor bugs and the server browser may have been better.
My final score is 9 out of 10 due to minor bugs. The folks over at DICE tried much harder than the ones at Activison, so this game is worth a medal.

Gameplay is severely lacking. Instead of the feeling of huge maps in battlefield 2, it's as if they've tried to combine BF2 with CoD, which has just failed quite spectacularly. Battlefield isn't suppose to give fast-paced action, it's suppose to give the feeling of a large battlefield, where you spend time trying to get to that perfect spot. Where you hide from the tank/helicopter going past you. Where you can snipe somebody from far away. This game gives absolutely nothing of this. Then there are all the balance and spawnkilling issues, but it would take too long to get into them.

Now, this game would still be worthy of a green rating if you weren't forced into having to deal with glitches constantly. First there's the obvious one, the horrible game launcher forcing you to reload and unload the entire game every time you want to switch servers. Which incidentally also forces you to be in a game while setting your settings. Then there's the weird movement, they've tried making the game more smooth by adding animations and the sort for jumping over things. The problem is they've failed miserably, and it's not smooth at all.

Then there are all the problems with EA, I've found ea support to be not only slow and unhelpful, but that they'll also directly lie to you about billing (yes, I've been billed twice on my single copy of BF3, and despite contacting support about this for the first time BEFORE the game was released, I have yet to receive any sort of refund at all) Of course this doesn't say anything about the actual game, it just shows that EA doesn't care about it's customers.

Multiplayer can be addictive, the mechanics haven't changed much since BF2. The gameplay is polished and looks and sounds fantastic. Some of the first maps are a bit too closed in, as I was expecting to play on the full map size. A gamepad works well for airborne vehicles. You'll want to have a book when you're loading up the multiplayer, since the server browser takes a few minutes to actually load into a game. Don't pay full price for the game, but wait for a good sale instead. You'll need a broadband connection to download the 4GB patches that have come out recently.

The destruction system isn't the way it should be, no real physics. graphics are OK, and so is the gameplay. I do have a little thing I hate and that is the brightness of the sun and the flashlight. Sometimes, you'd see more with your head beneath a rock than when you're looking at a tactical light.

I say looks like, because since the release date I've only been able to play for at most 2 or 3 rounds at a time...constantly plagued by CTD's, Lag, Rubber Banding on some servers and disappearing textures. My rig is below recommended but far above minimum. It seems that DICE, defying all logic, has released two client side patches which nerf/buff certain weapons in game, but have introduced a host of new issues with game stability - the game will freeze within a few minutes of entering a server, and then hard lock my system.

Origin, EA's Steam like service if fine - I really don't care about running it...what bothers me is the restrictive access that EA gives you when it comes to your ownership of the game. You are forced to tie your game account to your origin account, which binds your email to both accounts. Your game is launched through Battlelog, EA's web browser based server system and social network. Here's where the fun really begins.

Battlelog is, as far as I can tell, the most bloated piece of software ever created. The server browser in a webpage model is utter lunacy. You need to have Origin running, to launch the browser which launches the game. Not too mention that if you should be in breach of EA's TOS on their Battlelog forum, welcome to the banhammer. Swearing or any other minor infraction will get you an unexpected 72 hour forum ban WHICH ALSO MEANS YOU CANNOT ACCESS ANY OF YOUR PAID GAMES FROM EA! In some cases, users have been reporting permanent bans for no reason, other than comments posted on Battlelog. Permanent bans mean YOU LOSE ALL YOUR PURCHASED EA GAMES!

This for me is the most distracting problem with the game. Please be warned before purchasing Battlefield 3, your EA games can be at risk if you choose to visit their forums and break the rules. In conclusion, wait until this game is in the bargain bin. There are better companies to support with your hard earned cash, and better games which don't have the glaring technical problems that BF3 has.

But as far as multiplayer (which in my humble opinion is where the replay value is), Call of Duty will never hold a candle to the Battlefield series. As with all major Battlefield releases (1942, 2, & 3), these multiplayer maps are massive and deep in complexity. Between the primary weapons, utilities, tanks, vehicles, and aircraft you could literally spend months unlocking and upgrading even if you played everyday! There is so much to do here, it's one of the few games that I can justify the $60 price tag on, because I know not only will reaching my goals take time but I'll enjoy doing it along the way. One thing to remember when playing any Battlefield game is that this is not a Call of Duty style multiplayer game. The maps are 10x as large, the Objectives are more important than Kill #'s, running and gunning will most likely get you killed, and team work is rewarded. You'll need to adjust your weapons from map to map, and think about what you're doing instead of running into battle gung-ho. Over time, you will become a better player and adjust by learning the maps and tactics used by other players. It's an extremely rewarding experience for anyone looking for a multiplayer first person shooter that will be fun for more than a month. There are downfalls of course, the single-player experience while better than anything prior still falls way short of our expectations (especially after watching the trailers). Also the web style menu interface is horrendous and should have never been adopted in the first place. Disconnects are rare, but connecting to a server can sometimes be a challenging and getting server lists with proper ping read-outs can require restarts occasionally. While the former is permanent, the later should be fixed with future updates and is not of particular concern in most circumstances. If you're looking for a game you can jump into and start annihilating your foes immediately, Modern Warfare 3 is probably for you. If however, you're looking for a game with a more rewarding long term experience, team work oriented game play, and meaningful tactics and objectives. Skip Modern Warfare 3 and go right for Battlefield 3! Expand
