Great multiplayer game. Those are the two first words of the review because that's what I want to be taken from this. That being said, I didn't buy the game for the singleplayer. I don't usually play singleplayer games. The multiplayer is nothing short of amazing. Tons of vehicles, tons of guns, and at least 5 great maps. The other 4 maps range from terrible to "eh" in most situations I've encountered, but that's not the worst thing about this game. Now, how does this game actually look? The graphics are above and beyond what most games could even dream of achieving. It's the best looking game I think I've ever seen. I run the game on a High/Ultra combination of settings, and I get a fairly steady 60 fps. It's a pretty nice experience. But... this game can't receive a 10/10 for multiplayer alone. The singleplayer knocks it down a point, and the HORRIBLE GAME BREAKING BUGS that occur every now and then remove another point. Once they fix the game, it'll be a much more solid 9/10 experience, but until then the game must sit on an 8. It's a rewarding experience worth picking up. The battlelog system is nice once you get over your fears of internet browsers, and origin... well I forget it's even installed most of the time. Expand

Disclaimer: I am a long-time BF vet, having played nearly every game and expansion since the original.

I'm going to be up front about this: if you are going to play this on the PC, be prepared for headaches. Your experience may range from flawless to unplayable but I can almost certainly guarantee that you will encounter hiccups from time to time. However, if you are willing to go through the trouble of installing, configuring, and playing BF3, it will be worth your time. Just be prepared to do a bit of googling to help if you get stuck. I am only going to write about the multiplayer experience, as I consider that to be the meat-and-potatoes of any BF game.

The game itself is simply beautiful. I run it on high settings on medium-grade hardware at 1920x1080 at around 30-40fps. The gameplay should be familiar to anyone who has played a BF title before, with one noteworthy (and welcome, imho) exception: sprinting is now free, as in you can do it indefinitely. (It can be augmented with upgrades as well.)

EA's Origin and Battlelog (the web front-end) are getting a lot of flak, but personally, I have grown to really like the web interface. Battlelog allows you to really drill down into your stats and gives really easy access to item descriptions all in one, convenient place. The friends/"platoon"/party system could use an overhaul, and the lack of in-game VOIP is simply ridiculous, but these aren't game-breakers imho. I really like the ability to see what a server is doing before I commit to joining as well.

A few things I am waiting for DICE to address:
-Mouse resolution is non-adjustable (the slider does nothing!) and is wonky depending on how fast you move your mouse around
-The commo-rose is extremely slow to open
    -In-game VOIP--I mean, come on!
-Error messages that actually help--there is one that frequently pops up asking me if my game is up to date, and I can't tell because:
-Origin's "check for updates" and "repair install" features are broken

One last thing I should mention: if you are just starting out in BF3 Multiplayer, you are going to get slaughtered. A lot. This should not discourage you; a few days of solid play time should net you enough ranks to get some good weapon and player upgrades. Just keep at it, and the game becomes more and more rewarding.

Pros: Beautiful graphics, great sound, nice variety of weapons and maps, detailed stat-tracking
Cons: No in-game VOIP, front-end bugs, minor game glitches (the mouse thing)

The developers seem to be in contact with the community more that any other BF title to date, and the feedback system seems to be working thus far, so hopefully these wrinkles will get ironed out. By doing so, DICE stand only to make a great game even better. I'd recommend this game to my friends. Cheers~

The best engine for today with an excellent light system, which make the graphic and environment look fantastic. Singleplayer is excellent as for me, cause DICE showed us a typical war, when everyone expected an imposible hardcore war like in CoD. It's impossible to say how multiplayer is great. 10/10

Battlefield series fans were promised a sequel to battlefield 2. What we got was a sequel to bad company 2, with its lack of vehicle combat, small maps, non existent in game voice communication, modding tools and horrible user interface for PC. On top of that, the game requires battlelog to be able to be played, setup (controls, graphics).

Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer game with a single player add on. That said the single player can still compete with others in its class like Modern Warfare 3. However the multiplayer is just unbeatable. Just like Uncharted's single player is unbeatable and its multiplayer is on par with others.

A step-up in the shooter genre. Amazing graphics, great shooting mechanics, nice method of focusing teamwork without forcing the issue... just a fantastic game. Launching the game via web browser is smart and innovative. Origin? Not happy about that. No mod tools for the rabidly devoted developers? Also not cool. Can't give you a 10 DICE, sorry!

The new DLC, back to karkand will provide 4 of the best maps from BF2 to BF3 and will officially make this game the best. Of course, there are issues with BF3. First of all, its interface is a bit consolized and needs improvement. Some things such as jets and helicopters are also quite under-powered and need to be buffed. However none of the issues it has can't be fixed with a patch. WIth proper tweaking BF3 will be a game played for years to come.

However, the team at DICE recognized the value of public opinion and immediately patched the game upon release and is still continuing to do so. The actual graphics are quite unrivalled and the technology in the Frostbite 2 engine literally makes you jump when a bullet goes flying past your head. The technology and animations are much more fluent and realistic. Still a couple of early release bugs but with them soon to be ironed out, Battlefield 3 is a serious challenger to the FPS genre and says to competitors, "Your move".

The biggest problem I've had is getting into the servers I want, unfortunately server queues are turned off as they interacted weird with the matchmaker.

I haven't gotten around to the single player yet, so I can't really make many statements on that other than I'm glad it's not the acid trip that the MW plot has turned into. I'll gladly take something somewhere near reality instead of following up on Red Dawn '09 (seriously, I hated that movie to begin with and then they re-did it in a video game TWICE!). I have always thought BF needed some sort of real single player mode, if only to ease new players into the controls and gameplay.

Co-op is a blast, difficult as hell sometimes but very fun. I do recommend playing with somebody you know, as communication is fairly important in some of the missions. I liked that they provided a variety of scenarios to play, offering a bit more variety than a -> b run-and-gun. The score system and different difficultys add replay-ability, if only to help a friend unlock the co-op weapons for MP. I really hope they are planning to add more in later.

The heart of the beast, Multi-Player mode proper, remains at it's core the same. Conquest is still considered the primary game mode, offering the structure of take-and-hold objective-based gameplay we've all come to expect from the series. Rush is making a return from the Bad Company series, and for players new to objective-based play (or just feel like shooting anything that moves for a while) they've even added in the all-time classic Deathmatch for the first time in a BF game.

Now some people weep over the loss of the commander position (and all the drop and strike powers it had), but I for one believe the game is better off. Previously, a lot of power was held by one player who was randomly placed into that job at the beginning of a round (well not completely random, but...). This guy could either be a boon or a weight on the team's neck, especially if he wasn't paying enough attention to the map or just felt like screwing around. Game balance must have been difficult to aproach with such an unpredictible element to the game. So starting in BFBC2 they ripped the position out and handed the old powers down to the players as kit, a trend that continued into BF3.

Speaking of kit, unlocks are fairly streamlined but still have a bit of depth to them. Expounding on previous versions of the system, not only does each kit have their own unique gear to unlock but each vehicle group now does too. Additionally, weapon mods are no longer unlocked generally by the class but are instead rewarded on a gun-by-gun basis. I think these are strong moves for two reasons. One, it makes the player feel rewarded for more specific actions while playing. And more importantly two, it keeps the better unlocks from being easily gainned (a delay for balance in a way).

The classes have been re-organized again, though not quite as drasically as when they consolidated the 7(?) older classes. Assault has gone back to 2142 in being the medic with under-slung weapons for their rifles. Support got back the ammo crates, stole C4 and claymores from recon, got a mortar (the current "artillery strike"), and use LMGs with the newly-functional bi-pods. Engineers remain mostly unchanged with anti-armor rockets/missiles/land mines, a vehicle repair tool (with an RC version), and switching PDWs for carbines. The ever shifting Recons still have sniper/marksman rifles, but now have a deployable motion sensor, the squad spawn beacon, a vehicle marker light, and a motion-sensor equipped RC drone. All four classes still feel like a cohesive package, each one having plenty of toys to play with.

This has been a bit rambling, and is not a "true review", but I just wanted to address the general shifts in gameplay in the new BF. I can't really get enough of the game, and I am thankful Back to Karkand is coming out at the end of the semester. If you still haven't bought the game, then you're probably lucky in missing the typical launch bugs. If I was smart, I'd wait until after the first patch cycle for every new game before I buy. But I just had to get back on the battlefield.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I previously wrote a review where I dissed the web-based server browser. Nothing has changed there. It forces the game executable to quit every time I want to change servers. That's quite simply madness.

I have raised my review score to a 7 however. This is because I finally realised that BF3 is NOT a sequel to BF2. It's a sequel to Bad Company 2. In fact, apart from new weapons and maps, it's EXACTLY the same as Bad Company 2. Bad Company 2 was a fine game, but I was hoping for a real Battlefield game. That being said, Bad Company 3 is okay. They've screwed up the rush maps on the smaller ones (Grand Bizarre, Tehran Highway etc) where you don't really advance, you just move around the map.

Graphics are buggy, spawns are a bit whack, the UI is totally console based.

Not a bad game, but not what they claimed. Bad Company 3. Enjoy.

The best new FPS this year, hands down. The campaign is more or less a spectacularly better looking version of a Call of Duty campaign. There is little to story or plot cohesion, but if you did not find this a problem in CoD, you won't here. Visuals are stunning, as if I need to tell you. The multiplayer experience, vehicles in all, is as good as one can hope for.

As will all multiplayer games, don't expect to just join a random server and be at the right skill level - or think that playing on a 64 player server can feel lonely without people on communications (either using Battlelog or a 3rd party app). Use the filters and look at the options that the servers provide and you will find exactly what you are looking for with this game.

Origin is clearly an exceptionally horrible application, but I feel it hasn't got anything to do with DICE or the Game. I have researched the permissions the application uses and have ensured personal content is kept away from it. I would easily give Origin a negative score -10 and will help protest against the violation of privacy it imposes on its users.

The rockets (rpgs), while still annoying, won't instagib you like in bc2. The in game party creation is pretty useful and it's nice not to have to give out vent or teamspeak info all the time. The jets are pretty sweet, though you really need a joystick to be able to pull off some fancy dog fighting. The coop missions are pretty fun and an interesting addition, though they really pale compared to the general multi-player. There are only a couple points that I have a hard time with. The IRNV scope is so overpowered it's sick, being able to see people through brush is just too big of an advantage to go with any other scope. The parties mentioned above only hold 8 people, so, while useful, not very practical if you're playing with a bunch of friends or a clan. One thing I loved about bc2 was how destructible everything was, while bf3 is still super destructible, there are random bits in the environment that you just CANNOT destroy. Watch out for signposts in tanks... seriously... The great way outweigh the bad or frustrating, thus my 9. Flying in jets, helis, driving tanks and destroying everything that is around you is all perfect but again, the support for this game is so poor that I am slamming my head against the wall.

The game is perfect. Gameplay is awesome but the tech support that cannot solve anything and fans need to find temporary solutions are killing it. EA/DICE needs to wake up and release a patch sooner than predicted 25th November. If the issues (random crashing, disconnects) will be addressed and fixed and if the gameplay will be smooth and without rubber banding, then it will be a true BF2 sequel. So far. It is only a jam of bugs. Shame.

I really like this game, the multiplayer is fun and is much better than BC2. It's the battlefield feeling I really like. I know the singleplayer is short, but it's a multiplayer game. Besides, I really liked the singleplayer.
Only 9 points though because of some of the bugs and Origin. The bugs are in BF3 because it uses a new engine and Origin is not that good, but I can deal with it.

Another great detail that I thought was cool was the glare given off from a sniper scope in the bush, allowing me to counter snipe him just in time (this was in MP (Multiplayer) mode). I thought the Facebook style main page was great way to manage, contacting your friends and checking your stats against your mates (i think in mw3 you have to pay for this added feature).I don't know if this game will dominate MW3 but I have made up my mind just to buy this game alone. Perhaps maybe when Steam has a big ole sale and slashes the price down by half, then I'll purchase MW3 just to finish SP mode (Single player) and have a crack at the MP mode because one thing that I'll miss is the SND mode (Search and Destroy). But driving a tank with your buddy and crushing your enemies with it, so much fun! I also like the squad base mechanics of the game. You work as a team and you will be ranking up and unlocking all those fantastic goodies in no time (game play tips: http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/battlefield-3/1210757p1.html ) . The SP mode has some great action pace sequences and some great memorable moments where you are left saying WOW! In the MP mode the load times take a bit longer to get into the game but all good things come to those who wait (maybe i need to upgrade my pc). I have noticed at times there are sound effects that are missing from both the SP and MP mode but its nothing major that a patch wouldn't fix. Now I played about 815 hours on MW2 since its release back in Nov '09 (most time ever spent on a FPS game) and if i beat that benchmark in less time, then I sure made a good decision going with BF3. No doubt MW3 will be a great game as well but if you have limited time (or budget) to play 1 game, then let it be BF3. Expand

Poor and unsatisfying single player, that feels rushed out in order to beat MW3 to the shops. However the big issue for me is the required installation of "Origin", and offensive and bug ridden piece of privacy-invading software. Do not buy.

The idea that I have to open origin and then my web browser to open the game is stupid. Its mostly just bloating your system with more programs to run to just play a game. There are many rumors that origin is basically spyware. I prove this to be true but I can't disprove it as well. I don't care but if you are one of those paranoid people you might as well stay clear of this game.

The graphics are slightly better than Bad Company 2, There seems to be unscripted destruction. The sound is great, and i thought single player was decent. Now what Battlefield 3 is not? it is not deserving of the Battlefield 3 name. The game is blatantly consolized, the maps are small and made for 24 players. Most maps are just long corridors with choke points in the middle. Gameplay resorts to an endless rocket spam, with a lot of corner camping. The few maps that are actually open (2 of them) are just to small for 64 players. All the capture points are clustered together, why even have 4 or more points if you're going to put them all within 50 meters of each other? The game gives the impression that it should be tactical and slightly slow paced. But it's not it's a straight rip of Call of Duty, the game feels nerfed, arcadey, and "plastic" with client side hit detection. And that's another thing that ruins the game client side hit detection is absolutely horrible. You will frequently get into firefights where you put 15 or more bullets into someone only to have them literally one shot you. The game is rife with cheaters, i could not find a pub server without at least one of them. Punkbuster is a laughing joke to any cheat site, it always will be. Battlelog is pretty bugged, you will click to join a server only for the game to crash, or freeze then crash or just give you a random error. It was pretty frequent. Having to run your web browser and Origin is just a waste of 200mb of your ram. It is really not needed and these features should be in the game, not outside it.

I played the game for about 15 hours over a few days. I finally got sick of the things described above and got a full refund from EA. (bought from Origin.) I would possibly buy the game again in the future at a discounted price ($30). I wanted a true Battlefield 2 successor and instead i got a poorly made Bad Company 3/Modern Warfare 2 console port.

The netcode seems very broken or out of sync, you can shoot people until your clip is empty then die from 1 shot. There are lots of links about this, google it. Here are some reasons I LIKE the browser. I don't have to sit staring at loading screens anymore, I switch to another tab and browse the web. If I want to check my stats from another PC, it's all the same interface. I probably find this more appealing than most since I'm a developer and can see the sense in it. Yes the game, and battlelog have bugs. That is standard on any game of this size, it's not ideal, but it doesn't make BF3 worse than any other game I've played in the last 5 years. Nothing ships perfectly anymore, so why expect it to? So far DICE have done a good job of addressing issues, so they don't bother me. For me the bottom line is this, I don't know of any other game that can provide the same experience BF3 can, the sound and visuals are fantastic, and the game play is a lot of fun. Something I'd like to mention is the insane amount of XP needed to unlock the weapons and attachments in multiplayer. It's pretty crazy. You get an average of maybe 3k experience in one round, and some of the better unlocks require 200k just for a single unlock. Additionally, some guns can only be unlocked by gaining experience through co op missions. There are only 7 co op missions, and to do these each 3 or 4 times to unlock a single gun gets old really fast. Another issue is the fact that lower level guns and equipment sucks. Higher level guns are just way better than the ones you start out with. This makes it difficult to get started in the game, as you'll be constantly wiped out as you try to beat someone with a gun that's twice as good as yours. However, once you've played maybe 5 hours of multiplayer you'll have plenty of good enough weapons to hang with the top players (if you're good enough). I'd also like to mention destructibility and suppression. They add a whole lot to the game. Being under fire by a tank and suppressing fire as chips of concrete fly and walls crumble around you is a thrilling and frightening experience, one unique to Battlefield. Destroying a wall with an RPG and then rushing the defenders inside and wiping out a whole squad is exhilarating. It's moments like these that truly make this game so much fun.
Overall, the game is very well done. It really is a lot of fun and I enjoy the multiplayer a whole lot. Don't play this game a couple hours then give up. Stick with it, and I promise you'll end up enjoying one of (if not the) best first person shooter game on the market.

Graphic is astonishing despite moderate system requirement. All other aspects of SP are plain, boring and inexcusably worthless. MP at a first glance is good, but not excellent.

Lots of issues with the single player campaign getting suck in a loop with some of the video as well as the AI being able to see through the destructible objects. Speaking of destructibles, a lot of them fall apart when a scene loads. Overall, a typical EA game, lots of hype and a failure to deliver a bug free game. Granted, all games have bugs, but in the 60 AAA game space the bug count for BF3 is unacceptable. Performance on my machine is about 40fps @ ultra settings. Most of the time except to the above mentioned exploding verts, blocky, fractured shadows, and random, blocky pixelation on some of the textures. There is also a tendency for frame hopping and stuttering when running. Origin is a toll pain in the ass. I hate it. I am actually on the verge of returning the game just so i don't have to deal with origin to play it. It is horrible. EA needs to go back to steam.

In the end, I should have gotten BF3 on xbox so I could trade it in for CODMW3 in a few days.

It's just plain not ready to come out. They released the beta way too late, and didn't have enough time to fix any problems. This game will be better after it gets patched a few times, so until then I definitely recommend waiting. It definitely has potential to be fun, but right now, it's just completely frustrating.

I completely don't understand the haters, single player campaign is exactly what I expected, amazing locations, graphics, even though some missions are boring and AI isn't very good, I'd give that 8.5/10 - nothing innovative but solid.

But everyone knows that Battlefield always was much of a multiplayer game than single, I was amazed by trailers, then I played the beta and I didn't like it very much... I gave the game a second chance, bought it, played multiplayer and it's just GORGEOUS. I can even say that this is the best multiplayer since CoD4 and absolutely one of the best multiplayers ever. The scale of warfare, the size of maps, tons of unlockables, customization, vehicles (jets are amazing, although not very effective against enemies on the ground), the realism, sound effects, weapon balance and those extremely beautiful graphics (even on consoles it looks amazing)... it's just a must have. I know that some people don't like gameplay like that but for BF fans it's just what everyone was expecting of a new Battlefield game. However, there are many issues that bother me: input lag (especially on Kharg Island and Tehran Highway), no private matches and hitboxes that sometimes act like broken are the biggest ones but I hope DICE will fix this soon. It's a massive game with outstanding multiplayer, even with its issues it's a masterpiece.

Sound ------> +3 ------ Excellent. By far the best part of the game.
Graphics ----> +1 ------ Really Good when on MAX, otherwise average.
Maps ---------> -1 ----- Poorly designed, lopsided crap.
Gameplay --> -2 ----- Bad. Bugs, glitches galore. Feels like a beta. BFBC1 & 2 had crappy multiplayer made for console gaming and those who haven't experienced a well balanced gameplay focused game... such as BF2. If you go from BFBC1 or 2 to this, you'll be happy. If you go from BF2 to this, you likely won't. On the bright side, there are some things that are better than BF2. The spotting is simply hitting Q on the enemy now. No more of this holding Q, putting it on the enemy, then releasing it. That was cumbersome. Pace ---------> -1 ------ Strangely a little to quick. Things happen unrealistically fast. Like in CoD Black Ops. Everything seems to happen at x1.5 speed. Helicopters take off too quickly. If you're shot down, you crash quickly. The movements are too sudden. It feels like a crappy churner of a console port.
Interface ----> -1 ----- Talk about trying to be all sleek and cool and fresh... and totally blowing it. Only being able to play the game with an internet browser window open? Really? Only being able to "search" (poorly) for servers in said browser window? Really? Who's terrible idea was that?

    Final Score --> 6

Summary: Excellent sound, great graphics, meh maps, bad gameplay, bad interface. Mostly steps backward.

Unfortunately, GAMEs are about GAMEplay. So, BF3 bombs. I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to the predictable vanilla whatever factor of MW3 (not the multiplayer, it has always sucked). At least they stick stick to what they're good at... I hope.

Advice for DICE. Take BF2, give it BF3 graphics and BF3 sound, and you'll have a guaranteed winner. You dropped the ball this time, but everyone gets a Danzig 5/mulligan I suppose. But really, I blame it all on EA, so keep on doing what you do... as long as it's without EA.

I haven't played a game that sounds are looks as good as BF3 to date. The sounds that guns and explosions make add to the immersion and bring the game to life. Sometimes though, it can be difficult to locate the source of a sound. This can create a problem because situational awareness is key to win in BF3. Despite the cutting edge visuals and great sound, the gameplay in BF3 is poorly executed. The game is riddled with bugs and game mechanics that have made me scratch my head a bit. For instance, while playing on hardcore servers if a teammate kills you the kill counts against your K/D. Most, if not all, the servers I've played on had sever lag. Rubberbanding was suppose to be fixed in the latest server patch but in my personal experience the problem became more pronounced. Hit detection hasn't been fixed either. During the beta this was a concern raised by the community and apparently ignored by DICE. Battlelog has replaced the standard ingame server browser. It's a nice idea but poorly executed as well. Whenever I attempt to join a server BF3.exe will force close every other time I attempt to connect. This requires me to make two attempts to connect to a game. It can become frustrating when the server I'm trying to connect to is full. Most of the weapons in BF3 feel very similar. Rather than have multiple weapons with different strengths and weaknesses, DICE pretty much made them all nearly identical. In fact, weapon statistics are no where to be found other than a brief description of each weapon. Some of these descriptions are accurate while others are not. The various multiplayer maps have their strengths and weakness. Most of the close quarter maps are non-linear while some are linear. The linear maps aren't as fun to play but are more tolerable since spawn points are bearable. The non-linear maps have players of either team spawning in random locations. This leads to spawning near opponents or having opponents spawn right behind you. Many issues were fixed from the beta but many weren't. RPGs sometimes make the "shot" sound but actually never launch the missile. It's obvious bugs like this that make the game seem rushed and why this game could have easily scored a 9 or 10 for me but I can't overlook the carelessness of DICE. This game, as it stands now, is nothing more than a 6. Expand

But the faults are (seriously now) SOME-OF-THE-MOST-INFURIATING-FUN-KILLING-EXPERIENCE-RUINING faults I've ever witnessed. You must understand the degree of game experience ruined by several very specific design flaws and bugs. 1) Dying behind cover. This happens. In fact it happens every time you're capable of experiencing it, which is when you're running into cover. I don't mean cardboard box cover here boys and girls, I mean you've rounded a concrete building, you've jumped over a cement barrier, you've dodged into an alleyway, yet you take fire and DIE 5 to 10 feet behind impenetrable cover. Oh, wait, you hate not your comrades, you hate the stupid programmers who scripted them to become unstoppable bulldozers pushing you out of cover and right under enemy gunfire. Seeing a good firing position behind a reliable cover? Wait, don't rush to it yet, there is a very good chance that bot scripting guy saw it too. Because, you know, his bots are more valuable than your stupid character, and he hadn't bothered to think about your natural moves, so you will be squeezed out indefinitely. The real problem is quite simple: there is no advanced AI for NPCs. Or, rather, there is no AI at all. Bots from both sides follow predestined routes, kill each other at predestined times, your actions don't affect anything at all, and playing at hard difficulty means that in tight spots you have to memorize bots' moves, then carefully maneuver among them. If you break the script somehow, say, by staying behind your squad, you will eventually find out that enemy stops moving. They are out of scripted moves and have no idea what to do next. I know this is a multiplayer game, all right. But what's the point of adding a single player campaign if its only accomplishment is total frustration among gamers? Expand

    1. the game is riddled with bugs like graphics, physics, connections to server, lag.
    2. the online matchmaking system is as of yet crap as there are no proper servers available
    3. launching from a browser is fine, but if the game is not preloaded it takes time(got a SSD setup and the works) and if the server for some reason is no good (lag, ping, players, map) then you'll have to quit the game and go back to the browser, just to start over again.
    4. did I mention that finding actual servers where there is room to play is limited? Early probably for sure...
    5. The settings do not remember your choices even though you confirm three times that "YES I WANT IT". Look at the amount of negative feedback, and look how oddly consistent the review sites are in their praise... bought off? Dice have created a really beautiful game that serious gamers should play, but they should wait as it's certainly not finished yet - it's no secret PC gamers are getting the short end of the stick in this console era, but dear Dice and EA - I think most of us would much rather have waited for the finished game in December than be given an unfinished Beta in October..

When BC2 came out it was like no other game. You could do and destroy anything!! You think you're gonna camp here for the whole game? WRONG, there's no wall behind you! Drive tanks, fly ATTACK helicopters, 4 wheelers, UAVs and turrents! You name it BC2 provided and then. BF3 was announced and we got word of all the wonders that would befall us in this game. And show the COD franchise how real developers and networks stand by their fanbase. I refer to all this is to emphasize how utterly disappointed I am in BF3. I realized from Beta that this is NOT the BF I knew and loved. This felt cheap. And EA chose the absolute worst map to allure players from COD as it was not displaying BF's to its truest. We all know of the annoying network outages and glitches that happened in the beta stage and EA assured us that what we were playing was not the final product so I shrugged it off. Now that the final game was released I hoped it would be the same as BF2, IT IS NOT. Those users saying the game play is the same WRONG. The game play is no where near as smooth as BF3 and that game could have been smoother. This game is a pretty mess. I will only be referring to Multilayer as Campaign got me so angry I had to take 2 xanax (I think I've made my point here).

EA if you cant do something right, dont bother doing it at all. How is it that you can shoot a person square dead in the head emptying TWO clips one from you main and the secondary after switching to you side arm and your opponent will have enough time to stop. turn. shoot you once and you are dead.? EA can you PLEASE explain this cause I am stumped. I have had folks massacre me on 0%. 0%!!!!! I was killed by a ghost y'all!!!! Why can't I cook a grenade?? Why is player mute either you mute the entire squad or none so if I have a team member that is actually benefiting to the team and a kid screaming at his mommy I have to deal with all of that or mute them all? HOW do I end up in an entirely different class when a new game starts? WHY the **** does it take to goddamn long to get up from prone!!??? WHY all the theatrics to knife someone??!!! You have to ensure NO ONE is around you if you're knifing someone cause the length of time it takes to do that crap will get you shot! I have to wonder if EA just focused all their energy into just making the game look pretty and sounding fantastic and just left out the heart of the game. Cause that is what I got from the store. So thanks EA, thanks for ruining a great game! And replacing it with cheap, marketing MESS! Xoxo!

Battlefield Bad Company 2 was a better game in every respect, that's all you need to know, how can you take such a big step backwards? It's even buggier than BC 2, one can only wonder if it was Dice or EA who's responsible for making this game a mess. The game industry is taking everything that's bad about Hollywood and incorporating it.

Solid campaign and multiplayer. A lot of people mentioned bugs, but major once that had to with origin service were fixed during the first days of the release, I spent a few hours playing multiplayer and have not encountered a single bug. Very solid shooter.

This game ... is AWESOME. Maybe if you're a cod fanboy, you won't like it. But if you're a real Battlefield gamer, then THIS IS the game for you! It's like BF2 with more awesomeness.

Probably the best multiplayer experience you'll ever get in the next 3 years. It's a step forward from BC2 and in the right direction. (Singleplayer) The scripted sequences are quite good... I do have a problem with the rest of the game though. Firefights are confusing as hell, not enough cues as to what I should be doing and where I should be going. Most of the time the game sends me to my death, until I realize, after dying multiple times, what I'm actually supposed to do.
I'm not going to restart the game all over

I'm not going to restart the game all over again to change difficulty. I'll just leave the SP alone for a while, maybe I'll get back to it someday.

Ive played the whole battlefield series. The best one is still bf2. But this is still a great game. Singleplayer sucks again, but the earlier games didnt even have one! New shooter reference. Can't name another single game with that a great engine, optics or even gameplay. This is the biggest dissapointment of the year so far. What could have been an amazing game turned out to be a crappy first person shooter that we've all seen before. I know battlefield is all about the multiplayer, but even that dissapoints. DICE has failed to deliver what they pronmised. But the graphics are good and all.

Origin and BattleLog ruin any possibility of a positive experience. The server browser returns expired server status and data; connecting to servers and staying connected is an exercise in futility. The vehicles are fun to control altough it takes some time to get used to the helicopters and jets wich is not necessary a weakness. I must also admit that I have not played a second of the singleplayer and I will probably not soon, maybe I will one if I`m bored of playing online and I want to get the trophies but I have never cared about a battlefield campaign because it`s definetly not the best element in the game. Finally, I highly recommend you this game but I`m more or less puzzled about the other reviews, so just rent it before to be sure. Expand

Battlefield 3 looks great and the infantry combat is solid, but it lacks key gameplay elements that set the franchise apart and contributed to its success.

BF3 will be loved by player who enjoy chaotic infantry combat with non-stop hail of gunfire, but disappoint those who enjoyed the aircraft and enormous maps of BF1942 and BF2.

Those who see this "0" score may wonder why I'm starting with what, I think, are good - or great - features of the game, so let me start:
-no more jumping in order to overcome, say, a 2" step on a ladder (or level difference in terrain, for that matter). Now really, does anybody jump 3 steps in order to climb one? In all other games of this franchise, it's a constant annoyance. Not this

-sound. Realistic. Awesome. Not one negative comment on this one.
    -now, something that may be controversial: the flashlight. Either love or hate it, I consider it something more realistic than before, and even though there were means to do it, it was not built-in;
-physics/destruction: maybe I should address them separately, but, from what I saw, it looks like physics come from destruction in this game, not the other way around. And don't tell me they are two completely separated things, or it'll get worse! I'll stress the good one: destruction. It's good. I really appreciated it. But when it comes to physics, things are somewhat odd (ask those "jet pilot" players...), to say the least.

And that's all the good things I have to say about BF3 (or should I call it BC3?). Battlelog? Everyone I know is complaining about it. Lack of VoIP? Same. Where are the big ships DICE has promised? Naval battle? I had hopes that this wasn't a bad joke, but it is; a dirty one. Commander? No longer. -member squads? Only if n=4. Commo rose or F1-F8? No option: the worst commo rose I've ever seen (not that I haven't complained about it in BF2; it was bad enough already, but they managed to make it even worse). Graphics? Really, it's a mixture of great vehicle and soldiers textures, with mediocre (or less) terrain graphics. I was wondering if "ultra" meant "ultra-LOW" instead of "ultra-HIGH" graphics quality; to be fair, it's better than DN Forever, and comparable to ET:QW. What about towing vehicles (or vehicles towing objects)? Oh, you don't know what I'm talking about? Sorry if you haven't played BFV, then (and really, I feel really sorry on this one, since you probably can't buy BFV in stores now). Chat screen filling 1/3 of it? C'mon, DICE, you can do better than that! In-game server browser? No more. More unlocks than classes? Then what's the point on classes anyway!!?? And what about that **** of "play it the way you want"? The way I want is more like this: MOD tools, so I can put ideas into practice without having to convince DICE's CEO to allocate a fair amount of time and $ of their team to do it for me (for us). Instead of MODs, which extend the game's life cycle, one will gonna have to put up with DLCs, which divide the community (into those who have and those who don't) once for each DLC. The way I want to play is without Origin, launching the game like any other I've ever installed, not via web browser.
I'm not done, but I don't want to extend myself much (more than I have already) on this one.
Clearly, the bad side of it by far out-passes the good one.

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
