Let's start with the singleplayer. Remind you of Black Ops? Well it didn't remind me of it. That doesn't mean it was any more entertaining though. You spend the first two-thirds of the campaign on boring, linear, on-rails missions that lack any creativity or interest. The only good thing about these missions are the graphics. I was mildly amazed with them. However, if you can grudge past the first two-thirds, you arrive to a nicely thought out and interesting portion of the campaign that I thoroughly enjoyed. To name other issues, I disliked the AIs ability to instantly knife you if you went with 5 feet of them. No, I hated that. Then, I seriously disliked how the only jet mission was a on-rails shooter of boredom. While the plot might have been similar to Black Ops, I felt no connection between the two, which was refreshing since all I heard was talk about how similar it was to Black Ops. I also mildly disliked the quick time events. Why? Well for one, they didn't give me the impression like I was actually there struggling with another person. Another why? The action was slow and when you took hits, typically, the screen slowly turned sideways (no concussive effect to immerse you). The could have improved those QTEs by moving the indicators a little higher on the screen so they are clear and evident. As it is now, if you attempt to immerse yourself in the fight, you miss a key press and watch yourself get killed. That ends my singleplayer review, I would give it a 7/10 as it was mostly boring and linear, so it lacked replayability. However, it was a nice graphical showcase and the ending was pretty good.

Now for the multiplayer portion. As all the fanboys claim, "This is what Battlefield is about!" and they are right. The game really shines (when the servers aren't down, which isn't common luckily) here. The infantry/vehicles are well balanced (except for the helicopters) and the gameplay flows smoothly. You have plenty of unlockables and gamemodes/maps to keep you entertained for quite a while too. Now to the helicopters or should I say blimps. Why(I'm tired of this word)? Well, it isn't that they are particularly slow or weak, it is just that there are so many threats for them that they can't be used effectively. Every engineer with an RPG/Stinger, every vehicle that shoots, jets, other helicopters, and AA are all very strong against helicopters. So, while you attempt to make your first attack, you almost always have a lock on you from an engineer, almost always are being shot at by some MG, and a jet is almost always about to fire a missile or shoot you. I have seen some excellent helicopter pilots, but they never last longer than a minute or two. The best helicopters are the ones like the VENOM (I think) where infantry use mounted miniguns to fire from the sides while engineers repair it from the inside. The other main issue I have with the multipayer (beside the occasional bug) is the lack of a piloting tutorial for helicopters and jets. While there is a co-op mission that allows you to pilot a helicopter, you risk wasting someone's time. I would have implemented a map similar to Coral Sea where all players can fly jets and dogfight to their hearts content. Overall, the multiplayer gameplay is extremely fun and should keep anyone interested for at least a few months (Probably around the release of Back to Karkand). I give the multiplayer a score of 10/10 due to very few problems and extremely fun gameplay that has great replayability. I weigh out the two scores 66% multiplayer 33% singleplayer and reach my score of 9.

Frustrated. Campaign mode is utter crap and there appears to be no local server mode at all, no way to enjoy private games with friends without renting a server, and no way to allow people to practice, explore, or learn how to fly the helicopter and jet. Online multiplayer is fun, though always a mad scramble for vehicles. Otherwise, it's really not much different than other genre titles.

And someone was pointing out that servers were already filled with hackers, which sounds like a rubbish assertion to me, since I have played for more than 10 hours already and haven't seen any obvious hacking at all.
However, stunning as the visuals are, I am running this game on medium settings on a slightly low resolution, which makes the game less than appealing graphically. I wish also that they would also use a queueing system to join servers and fix squad joining/creating since it seems more complex than helicopter controls.

Aside from some issues with the operation of the server browser the game gets everything right. Anyways I loved this game. So Battlefield isn't known for its campaigns but I actually really enjoyed it. Im not big on multiplayer and getting online in fact I NEVER get online to play but this is the first game I did and you know what I loved it even though I did get owned a few hundred times. I'll get there in the end. Its funny that some of you have posted up whinging about the prone position but in real battle can you not do that or is that just not an option?? And i did a bit more homework where I looked at a few games some of you have reviewed and some gave this game 0-3 yet gave Portal 2 10 go figure. Need I say more. I say good job to Dice and EA considering all the media hype around this game it was a little disappointing when I played it but overall still loved this game. Smooth gameplay like when your leaping over it made me feel like it was more realistic ok so its not as good as Rage in my eyes but I still highly rate this game based n the multiplayer and speaking of that Im going back to that now. This game is highly recommended and I hope you will actually play this game and give it a go.

Cut a lony story short, i ended up downloading a crack which bypasses origin and battlelog compleatly. Only problem with that is i cant frickin go online, only single player is availible.
Single player is a total joke to, my rig runs 2 GTX570s graphics cards in SLI (with new Nvidia driver) but the graphics are frickin awful, what is with that water droplet/dirt effect on screen during game play?? Another bug bear i have as well is the poor gamepad support, i have by PC rigged upto my 55" TV so i use a wireless 360 controller, now the game recognises that i have the controller attached and lets me play with it in game, however there are some parts in the game which i have to press a certain button at certain time, only problem is these buttons arent on the gamepad but rather on the mouse or keyboard!! What is the point of that?? After speninding 15 mins remapping the keys, i carry on playing the game only to be prompted with a instruction to press Z to go into the prone postion, having gone into prone by pressing a remapped button on the gamepad the message stayes on screen, during this time i am unable to pick up a RPG to blow up the hotel in the first level, only when i press Z on the keyboard am i allowed to pick up the RPG!!! Sloppy Dice sloppy. i am giving this game a low score purely because of origin and a very poor single player plus the points mentioned above. I refuse to have origin on my PC and am sure i will miss other EA games because of it, there loss not mine. If the game ever makes it's way to Steam i will be happy to reload it and give multiplayer a go. Rockstar tried a similar thing with GTA5 and Social Club and we all know how that eneded. For now the game has been uninstalled and will be heading back to the store for a refund. Cmon EA i love some of your stuff, but for the love of god, get rid of the mandatory use of origin and battlelog please!!!!

Origin is annoying, but it hasn't really anything to do with the game itself, so it should not appear in the rating. Battlelog is less annoying than I initially thought, and as a stats page its awesome.
The game is exactly what I expected it to be when buying: Big maps, vehicles, tons of enemies to shoot -> Battlefield.

I bought this game for the multiplayer, and I love it! It's exactly what I wanted it to be, which is a better version of Bad Company 2. Better graphics, more destructible environments, amazing sound. It's the immersive, semi-realistic shooter I've always wanted. The classes are all different and all useful, and it's slower paced than MW.

I might eventually play the single player campaign.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game's campaign, I must admit, isn't all that great. It is heavily scripted, to the point where it assumes your just going to do what the game wants you to do, without telling you to do it. I was supposed to follow some guy called Matkovic when attacked by Russians, to cover that area, so, ofcourse, I go to him and start shooting, immediately afterwards I get a headshot to the face, whilst in cover... from straight in front of me. So I decided to try and go against what the game wanted me to do, and it was piss easy, just picked em off as they came running. The problem is, when your playing it, many times you are forced to do exactly what the game wants you to do, if you do anything else, you die. More often than not, it doesn't explain what you ARE SUPPOSED to do either, another time I was to escape with a guy carrying a bad guy on his back, in addition to "support the marines outside the building". Now, I am inside this building, and what I am actually supposed to do is sit in my little corner and snipe all the soldiers trying to go out, until my partner has the bad guy in the chopper. There are quite a few of these incidents and it is deadly frustrating, I almost smashed my screen last night whilst playing because I got so frustrated with the game.

That said, there are moments that are very good, also in the campaign. Thunder Run is a pretty cool mission, albeit a rather standard rail shooter experience. This would be okay, and actually awesome, were it not for the fact that this game consists of rail shooting and corridor shooting, only. It gets tedious. The campaign then, wouldn't really be worth the 50â

I have played the map "operation metro" and it has nothing in common with the BETA, the light is incredible, you can see the people perfectly and the movements are fluid and realistic. Is impressive to see the walls going down.
To all this, we have to add the "Battlefield Certificate" what means a total immersion in a war with it´s vehicles and soldiers.
The sound is another 10. Every shoot, explosion o scream is perfectly integrated in what should be a war zone.

The Battlefield series exists for multiplayer to such an extent, that most customers of this game will barely play the campaign in comparison to the multiplayer modes. In my case I played 7.5 hrs in Bad Company 2 in the campaign, whereas I spent almost 240 hrs playing the game online. In other words 3% of the time I spent playing BFBCS, I spent playing the single player campaign. Based on that experience, I base my review of Battlefield 3 almost completely (97%) on the multiplayer. In that respect this game is amazing. Stunning graphics, wonderful sound, and ridiculously addictive gameplay make BF3 a phenomenal game. In short, yes the single player campaign is sub par. So what?! Battlefield 3 is about insane online battles, not the single player campaign. Simple as that. Expand

Lack of server browser and so on. biggest downfall was the "ORIGIN" - the game gets 1 from me purely cause "origin" violates almost all my privacy.

The game follows closely with the rest of the BF series, with large expanded maps, vehicular warfare, and a reward system for squad based tactics. Every class is useful with each of their jobs and the game tries to promote a mix of classes to be a more successful squad when teamwork is being used, even in their "condensed" form. (example: assault and medic class combined into one). On the other hand, not having a Commander diminishes it's value because of certain tactics is now left out of the equation. No more are the artillery strikes, or the map scans, or even supply drops. Much of that is left with the squads and squad commanders, on a much smaller scale. That also leaves out another objective, by trying to go behind enemy lines and take the important commander buildings out. dice took that objective out and turned it into another game mode called rush. Graphicwise, it is one of the more intense sceneries to date. Tracer fire everywhere, with smoke pluming in the background, destructible environments all adds to the feel of a real life battlefield. Destructible environments alone adds to the tactical flare of the game. Can't go around a wall? C4 it and make your own door. Enemy camping in the building and you not having line of sight to the enemy? Tank with a couple of AP shells in that building will bring the building into rubble. I know there are alot of gripes about Origin, but to be honest, I see no major flaws in the system. The game loads lightning quick compared to BF2 or 2142. It will have a learning curve to use, since it is somewhat a new way to interface with the game. We could also say the same about Steam when it first was released. All in all, I find BF3 to be a refreshing departure to the CoD world of Ramboesque style, one man army gameplay, to a large scale full on 64 player war, where squad based team play reigns king. While the campaign wasn't the newest and best thing in the world, I had a ton of fun and enjoyed the hours I put into it to beat it on hard. Sure there may be a few too many quicktime events, but overall it was interesting, fun, and beautiful I might add. This also on low graphics it looks amazing (so my laptop can run it, which it does pretty well). Like the most lifelike characters I've ever seen in any game with very realistic movements, and a game where when you play the campaign you want to slow down just to look around is pretty darn good. If any issues I've mentioned above hinders your thoughts about this game then you have missed the point entirely, because MP is absolutely the best I have ever played. People have asked for innovation and it has arrived. If you didn't expect such an ambitious game to have a little bit of a rocky launch because of everything they're releasing, then don't ask for innovation. The problems I've experienced are nothing absolutely major and can be easily patched out soon. Back to MP, the amount of customization that is allowed on each class and gun provides gameplay exactly how you want it. And one of the things that really sets BF3 apart is that you have so much freedom in how you play and it still remains extremely balanced. The amount of game modes you get and number of maps that are all stellar combine for the most fun and biggest deal you can get out of a game. I could go on and on, but this game has so much to offer, things that are really good are also the co-op mode along with the sound that is stellar and destruction that never leaves you feeling safe. If you have the patience to play what can be played and let Dice work out the server kinks then you can truly appreciate this game for what it is, a different experience that is ultimately most fun you'll have all year. You can drop dead in milliseconds and in some pretty unjust fashions, so watching where your teammates die and working with them to cover all sectors is vital to living relatively securely. If you do manage to have some cover in the midst of a conflict, the combat can get pretty intense and prolonged, explosions happen everywhere, bullets fly non-stop, and these moments make my day. The game really encourages saturating the enemy with bullets, which is fun. Who doesn't like shooting non-stop? The immersion is pretty fantastic if you ignore some movement and visual glitches that happen every so often. It runs well on my year old $600 computer, the sound is great, if not a little cacophonous. The teamplay is heart warming when it works, and being on top of the team by being the best team player is very rewarding. Think critically about helping your team, expect death at every corner, and you may take this game from a cool experience to a fun game.

Full Disclosure: I have not attempted the single player campaign, or the Co-Op missions yet. This review will be entirely about the multiplayer.

As I started playing this game at 3am Tuesday morning, it dawned on me that the graphics style is about what you would get if you crossed Battlefield 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2, with just a sprinkle of Modern Warfare 2. It's cartoonish and realistic at the same time, and they've done a superb job blending the two. The graphics are top knotch. As for the audio, I've been playing mine on the "Home Theater" setting, and it's been superb. The sound effects are as good as, if not better than, the graphics, and the graphics are better than anything I've seen yet, so that tells you something. Like Bad Company 2, the sound really immerses you in the battlefield, to the point that you even hear the plane shaking as you take off and your landing gear retracts. You hear your boots over the dirt ground as you run.

The gameplay though, is really the bread and butter of any good game. Battlefield 3 gameplay is just as good as the graphics. The flaws I will point out are largely minor and based somewhat on personal preference. But first, the pros. Hereagain, the game has blended Battlefield 2 and Bad Company 2 to make for an excellent feeling game. They've dramatically increased the unlocks available(think Modern Warfare 2 multi-player) and your ability to customize your kits. Vehicles can also be customized, and your customizations are specific to each vehicle class meaning you select options for tanks, options for AA vehicles, options for jets, attack choppers, light choppers, etc etc. Vehicle handling is much better than in Bad Company 2, though I honestly believe they were as close to perfect in Battlefield 2 as I've experienced yet. They have redone vehicle handling to be much like Battlefield 2, meaning if you were familiar with using vehicles in that game, you're pretty much good to go after a small warm-up period in BF3. One interesting feature of the game is that you only start the game with your machine gun as your primary weapon on the jet. You must unlock further upgrades. They have also brought back the prone position, but have added a roughly 2 second delay as you get up off the ground from prone meaning you won't be seeing any bunny hopping shenanigans. Those of you worrying about snipers in prone will be happy to know that EA has dealt with the "camper" problem with sun glare from the optics of rifles.

The downsides as I see them are few and far between. My first caveat, is the ability to pin the mini-map so that north is always "up". Currently, your mini-map rotates as you turn which I find to be extremely confusing when trying to learn the maps. I'm never fully sure which direction to travel in. This was an option available in the previous Battlefield games and I'm not entirely sure why EA saw fit to leave it out of BF3. Another caveat is that, much like Bad Company 2, you only have one mouse sensitivity setting. I much preferred Battlefield 2 where you could set the sensitivity for your soldier, and then a unique one for each of the vehicle classes(jet, chopper, land, sea). Another minor issue is the way you select where to spawn. Instead of being able to click on the map and select a flag or squad member to spawn on, you have to select them by name to the left of the map. When the map is cluttered, or a lot of squad members are concentrated in one area, it can be a little confusing to figure out exactly where you are going to spawn. The biggest caveat of all though, is that you have to use Origin and the Battlelog just to play the game. I detest that EA makes you use Origin to play and then sells your information to third parties.

All-in-all, this game does not disappoint. I've had tons of fun playing it and I know I will continue to do so well into the future. Even at a $60 pricetag, it's well worth the money.

Battlefield 3 is an absolute blast to play through. Possibly the best graphics in a game at the moment. Single-player is FUN despite everyone's annoying trolling saying it sucks. Co-Op is ridiculously hard but fun (look, I used that word again) to play with friends. Multiplayer could be a little more balanced, and there are a few minor glitches, but nothing that can't be fixed in a small patch coming in a very short amount of time.

I'd write a lengthy review but I already wasted enough time playing it. I'll just sum it up: Boring single player with a **** load of cut scenes and listening to people talk. Co-op is nothing more than what mw2 did with theirs, a complete bore. Multiplayer is a joke, as per usual with BF games. New Title: Crawl of duty. Don't waste your money.

Most amazing FPS experience ever. Running 4 servers w/ my PC clan mates who are BF2 and BC2 veterans. We are 60+ members strong and are all enjoying the MP immensely. =HOG= is our clan. I won't give it a 10 because nothing is perfect. Some things need addressed, but certainly DICE released us a working game that's a lot of fun and has amazing graphics and sound.

If you do managed to get bored, there are other classes, vehicles, and strategies to try out to keep you interested for a long time. I've seen lots of reviews about glitches etc. (a lot based on the BETA...*cough*), but my experience has been flawless. Also, for anyone talking about a wealth of "hackers" already...I think you just need to practice a bit more.

Despite Battlefield being a multiplayer franchise, the singleplayer holds up nicely. It certainly is by no means groundbreaking. It tells a familiar story with the exact same structure as that of CoD: Black Ops, but nonetheless it is engaging with a few "wow" moments. Playing through on the "hard" setting I felt as though whenever I died it was fair, aside from one chapter with the old "endless wave until you advance" stage.

Overall, I give it a 9, because the singleplayer is fairly unimaginative (although lots of fun), but the multiplayer is a 10 (ignore co-op, it's short and basically a throwaway). Very solid.

Call of Duty is always about yourself. You do good in the battle and nothing else matters. Battlefield 3 is also about yourself, but you depend on your team for results as well. As an example of this, In Call of Duty, everyone goes their separate ways and try to ring up as many kills as possible during the round. In Battlefield 3, you head in all different directions, but somehow, you and your team always end up in an area that is a "choke point" where the members from the opposing team meets you and members on your team... and that's when the battle actually starts.

I've played all of the Call of Duty games from the original to Blops. I've also played every Battlefield game from 1942 to BF3. When I play Call of Duty, I play a few rounds, I get bored, and I go do something else. With Battlefield, I play a few rounds... and then I play a few more rounds... and if I still have time, I may go find another server and play some more. The element that sells it for me in Battlefield is the "Teamwork" aspect, and Battlefield 3 checks, circles, and underlines that box.

So why is Battlefield 3 so much better? Visuals, Audio, well designed maps, very well planned unlocks, and a sense of realism that has never been there in other Battlefield or CoD games are all present in BF3. I keep coming back for more because the game is satisfying in a way that no other FPS game has ever been for me. The multiplayer experience is second to none. Just be warned... if you're looking for a quick blast with an SMG and expect to get tons of points from run-and-gun tactics, Battlefield 3 is NOT for you. Patience and accuracy is rewarded. Reckless actions are met with failure 9 out of 10 times.

Really decide what you like about FPS games. If you like running around with a quick trigger finger, go play Blops or MW3. If you like careful tactics and team work, BF3 will do it for you easily.

Oh yea... the tanks and planes are good too.

The singleplayer is not that great and it is comparable to COD in aspects of linearity and blockbuster type action and yet I'd say superior writing and atmosphere. CO-OP is a bit better with 6 missions that are pretty fun with a friend.

What it shines with is multiplayer. You just don't find a shooter with team orientated framework built into its design anymore with the last one I remember being Team Fortress 2, although it's not that heavy. It's balanced and skillful with deep weapon progression and long term investments in unlocking new gear and ranks. Vehicles are an important force and staple on the field, but not instant death machines and they also require some work to use properly. You can be 4 different classes and all of them have helpful items for your team and you play in squads and feel part of a unit instead of people in a map killing each other.

I love Battlefield and the unique experiences it offers in a sea of modern shooting games. You just won't find anything else like it unless you like simulators like ARMA.

I can't think of a way to finish this, but I really recommend picking it up.

First off, I wasn't impressed having to launch my game through a browser. This was mostly because it wouldn't launch. After hours of messing around, I isolated it to Internet Explorer 9. Probably one too many security boxes clicked. I had a gut feeling it was IE9 from previous experiences- the browser gets goofy on some sites. I opened it through Chrome and it worked. It's how I get around all of my IE9 issues.

The game does look good. Enough said there. My GTX 580 SC @ 2560 x 1600 ultra graphics does a pretty good job. It did slow down during intense firefights in multiplayer once so far but to be fair maybe it was lag (gf was watching Netflix).

I only touched the Single Player Campaign to get a feel of the game before having my ass handed to me online. From what I've played so far, the storyline is a FILE ---> SAVE AS from Black Ops.

Now the reasons for the low score. I gave it enough to keep it positive because I don't feel it deserves anything less. This is all multi-player related.

My biggest issue is the size of the maps. Even with 64 players, it's still too big. Too much area to cover, too much running. I thought I was playing ARMA for a minute. It's also a sniper's wet dream. Playing COD, I hated any open map because of the snipers. Some open area is fine. There is too much open area here. I loved a lot of the COD maps. Plenty of buildings for cover and ambush, escape from attack, track down campers and safely eliminate them, whatever. The best part was sneaking around and knifing snipers/campers/anyone really. If I start taking fire in BF3 going cover to cover, which is like a 20+ second sprint, don't bother. Respawn, start from the beginning and run another marathon across the map to where the action is.

This point is simple- you can't run over enemies with vehicles. I tried and looked stupid. I saw someone kill a teammate. Driving a vehicle at the time I was like hey, let's run this mofo over. Nope. Slammed into a wall and as I was trying to reverse and take off, buddy shot me dead. Went right through him. I even think he was surprised. Next point, COD wins for class customization. I loved building my character classes and choosing different ones depending on the job that needed to get done. Also, it doesn't appear BF3 has the options COD has (weapons, attachments, secondary weapons, perks, camo, etc.). You get some stuff here and there, but it seems limited. This isn't for sure, just how it looks at the moment. I like customization/options. Simple as that. BF3 may come through and surprise me- fingers crossed.

BF3 is a much different game than COD. I do need to play it more to really appreciate it all. For me, the huge map thing might be what kills it for me. If I get picked off by snipers regularly in these opens maps, this game won't get touched again. For now, I will keep playing it and seeing how things go for me. For anyone still waiting to buy this game, I'd wait until after Modern Warfare 3 launches. The game might not be as pretty but if the multiplayer is better, who cares? I know I don't.

If you want a gaming challenge with variety, then you really shouldn't be playing single player. I'm not sure what people expected from a single player? BF1942 had a single player that was essentially just multiplayer with bots, and to be honest, I prefer BF3's single player. Multiplayer is better with human opponents, not bots!
The single player format is quite unoriginal - it is a formula perfected by COD, but there are some original bits in it, e.g. the jet mission. Aside from that, my other criticism of SP is that some of the voice acting is a bit dull. Its mindless fun though, and a good place for some light fun before you get into the meat of the game, which is and always was obviously going to be multiplayer. (if you are allocating more than 10% of your score to the singleplayer, the you are really doing it wrong and have no idea about battlefield games).

MP needs little comment it is brilliant. Some of the maps are a bit chokepoint-ish and COD-like, which many battlefield-fans won't like. However, there are still big maps, and the back to kharkand expansion coming, so I see it as providing variety, and its great that there are different options.

A lot of people don't like battlelog, I personally really like it. It is easy to use, can access it from anywhere, and it is obviously going to be easier for EA/Dice to update it than an in-game menu. This is easy to understand, surely? If you are at all familiar with the interface issues on launch for BC2 and BF2, and many, many other games, then you should be happy with battlelog, and how (relatively) smooth it is working. The stats management is great, the social features to encourage friendly competition with your friends are great, and despite that silly destructoid review, IT REALLY ISNT THAT HARD to add friends and do everything you need to do in battlelog. Given it is new and is easy to tailor/modify, I'm really impressed by it. I'd much rather go through battlelog than have to endure the same intro/loading sequence (nvidia! intel inside! EAgames! Challenge everything! etc) in-game menu and music every time I want to play the game.

There are plenty of bugs on release - which sadly, is what we all typically expect for most new release games these days, with only a few exceptions. However, the only significant bug for me is server lag on big maps, which didn't occur in the beta, so I'm assuming it will be fixed reasonably quickly.

Every person on your team plays a crucial role of how the victor will come to be decided. Solid game. You'll find that most of the low ratings that bring the overall score of this game down will be because of the following - Singleplayer, Battelog, Origin, or user errors (IE: Compatibility problems, inadequate hardware, etc...). Singleplayer - I never play Single-Player personally and know most of my fellow PC gamers choose MP over SP. I don't know why anyone would pay $60 toSolid game. I don't know why anyone would pay $60 to play a static pre-defined plot for a day when there is a robust and dynamic MP option. BF3 is all about MP anyways and probably would have been better off without SP like BF2. There rating would be higher if this were the case.

Battlelog - I dislike this as well. The only reasoning I can see for this is either a development obstacle without ample time to overcome or because they thought it would be a good idea to "integrate" the stats and what-not with the game-browser. I think integration is a great idea but it's not really integration if you are relying on another program, or middle-man. In either case, it's bearable and probably will just take some getting used to. Not so much of a hindrance, more-so a head-scratcher. Origin - While it may seem to make sense to bash Origin and BF3 for using it over Steam or a stand-alone install, it's important to understand the reasoning behind this rather than bashing BF3 out of ignorance. Do your research first...

User-Errors - It's absolutely ridiculous how users will rate a game, or anything for that matter, bad when they haven't actually played the game or have a personal local issue that interferes with their ability to play correctly. 90% of the time it's not the game itself that's at fault. The remaining 10% of issues are typically dealt with through updates/patches but even still I view it unfair to rate a game poorly until such time as you've actually played the game. I recommend dismissing any reviews like this and strongly encourage anyone reading this to avoid following this trend as well. With that said, I've only had issues with this game when trying to install it through Origin. This was the same issue I had in Alpha and Beta though and it was an OS problem, not the game (Setup a fresh partition and was set). I've played without any kind of issues at all since launch. The game is truly revolutionary.

My only complaints with the game are - Stuck at a stat overview of your killer when you die for a few seconds, can't customize your loadout between rounds, there isn't any in-depth weapon stats or way to view future upgrades in game (Only can see your next upgrade), and the RPG impact to a vehicle looks odd and doesn't seem to do as much as you'd expect (Leading to RPGs being used on Infantry more).

Overall, despite some minor complaints and excluding SP, I think this game is fantastic and give it a 10 out of 10 accordingly. I'm sure over the next few months as updates are pushed some of those minor complaints will be eliminated as well. You don't need a hard-core gaming system to run this either - Only if you want to run everything on the highest settings. You can easily play this game on low or even medium with quad-core system with a decent video card (Something made within the past 2 years with at LEAST 512MB GPU DRAM).

The sound design, which has always been a hallmark of the Battlefield series, is so good that you feel like you're truly smack in the middle of a fight. DICE has really outdone themselves in this department. Graphically, it's about as good as it can look given the restrictions the aging Xbox and PS3 hardware has. Fantastic lighting and particulate effects and authentic and up to date vehicle design. I'm jealous that PC owners get to play this in all its DX 11 glory. If Battlefield 3 is this good on current gen consoles, I can't wait to see what the sequel looks like on next gen consoles! You have an insane amount of unlockables and seemingly unending ways you can spec your weapon loadout before you spawn in. There is essentially none of the silly killstreak rewards like RC bomb cars that Call of Duty has and it's better for it. DICE has spent a lot of time on game balancing and though some would whine and say this weapon is too powerful or too weak, if you are a student of the series you know there is always a counter to any given weapon system. If I had one complaint, it's that you can't create a squad of more than 4 people so it's trickier to get a crowd of people all in one game, but the addition of server browsing helps a lot and is a welcome addition that was heretofore exclusive to the PC crowd. The maps are big and well designed, the lone exception being Operation Metro which is just too narrow. Battlelog, which is the free equivalent of Call of Duty Elite, gives you comprehensive stat tracking and gives players social features like the ability to form platoons and post in forums. I would have like to have seen this integrated into the console software as it's only accessible from your PC, but if they had done it, you might not have had features like the forums since it can't be done on console for technical reasons. You do have access to some stats right from the console, but if you want to go really in-depth, log into Battlelog, it's FREE. If you preordered the game, DICE was kind enough to give you the first map pack and a selection of weapons for FREE, that's four maps, and four weapons, for FREE! I don't see Call of Duty doing anything like that, EVER. Speaking of which, the community of Battlefield is much more mature as the game really encourages teamwork so you have very little lone wolf BS that you get in Call of Duty. You have to work together; teams that don't lose, period. I'm about 2 hours into the campaign and so far it has been very good but a little derivative of Black Ops with the flashbacks but let's be honest here, people play Battlefield for the multiplayer. That's where it's at. That's the reason why Battlefield players are so loyal. That's the reason why the game is played long after the 6 hour campaign is over. I have over 500 hours logged in Bad Company 2, and this game will be no exception. So, even though we don't get the whole enchilada that PC players do because of our aging console tech, it's still one hell of a game and not to be missed. This gets my vote for shooter of the year and possibly Game of the Year(don't forget, Skyrim has yet to release;). Thank you DICE for putting together a truly stunning game. You guys never fail to disappoint. Now get to work on Battlefield 4 for the next generation...this one will keep me busy for the next 2-3 years easily! Expand

Potentially great game, completely hamstrung by the epic fail that is Origin and Battlelog. I wish I could get a refund. Hell, battlelog doesn't even recognize the install if you have BF3 Limited Edition instead of BF3 standard.

What's up with all the hate on the single player? As an experience, I'd slot it under MW1, CoD 2, and CoD Black Ops, but better than MW2 and World at War. There are some really great levels in the game: every time you play as the GRU operatives is great, the tank level that takes place in the city, and the chase at the end. The single player is not bad, it's just not groundbreaking... but it's really just a warm-up to the main event. I get great performance with my single GTX 460, no stuttering, and I have 0 lag with no disconnects so far after 8 hours of multiplayer play. If you're experiencing lag then the problem is your connection. Only thing I hate so far is the complete lack of teamwork I've experienced so far while playing online... c'mon people, stop picking the sniper kit and sitting out of site of all the flags, or at least put down your radio beacon some where useful and make some type of positive impact on the actual battle. If you're experiencing technical difficulties, it's not the game, it's your rig and your background processes. Playing with a fresh hard drive and a fresh install of windows, I've had 0 problems with the game, beta included. Can't say the same about trying to play off my other, everyday Windows install. My advice: don't play your games off the same hard drive/partition that you use for porn. Expand

This is the best FPS I have played since Modern Warfare came out. It isnt perfect, the single player is so so. However, just in the last 2 days there have been SO MANY EPIC MOMENTS in multi-player. Love it!!

EA ruined another great franchise. I hope they go bankrupt ASAP. After they trolled Activision so hard... they release this unfinished game. The singleplayer is so lame, you have no idea. The multiplayer has more bugs than the open-beta phase.

No squads, origin stupid system, battlelog instead of an in-game menu, lag, bugs and stupid design decisions have ruined this game. :(

    I miss BF2

Great multiplayer, really engrossing, I wish my twitch skills were better. Good, if short, campaign. Fantastic presentation - FROSTBITE 2 is amazing. On the whole I like the features on Battle Log. Don't wait - buy it now.

It seems that the consensus is that the campaign is the universal knock against this game. The single player campaign portion of this game is pathetic and uninspired. If you liked the campaign, then well, you A. Have low standards or B. Have not played many other shooters in the last well, I dunno, 10 years? The multiplayer is a completely different animal. It's fierce, intense, with big open maps and feature filled ( I love all the new unlocks). My only complaints are how everything is done through battlelog on your web browser and how it's still quite buggy. I liked BFBC2's setup better where the server browsing is done IN GAME. A minor gripe I have is the underground paris subway tunnels level. It does not seem very well designed because everyone bottlenecks at one particular point and it just becomes a which-team-can-throw-the-most-grenades-fest.

Anyway, I treat the singleplayer campaign as an addon to a robust multiplayer suite so I'm not going to be harsh and knock it down 5 rating points for that like some unreasonable people do. The multiplayer strengths more than make up for the lackluster campaign.

Bottom line: Buy it if you want somewhat tactical and realistic multiplayer action, do NOT buy it if you are the type of person who only plays games for the single player portion.

Anyone judging this game based off the singleplayer or the beta is just doing it wrong. Yes, the singleplayer isn't great, but the only reason it's included is EA made DICE put it in to get more sales, it's not true to the battlefield genre so I'm not even going to address it. And of course the beta was a beta, obviously not to be used to judge this game.

And of course the beta was a beta, obviously not to be used to judge this game.

Multiplayer, this game is everything it should be. I was looking for a battlefield game with huge maps, great vehicles and large player counts and this game more than provided that. Except for some first day release bugs (lag, a little rubberbanding, things that are expected the first day of release) the gameplay has been flawless. The maps are huge, but not too big that you spend forever just getting to a point. The vehicles feel right. The tanks feel like the did in BF2, not like BC2. I'm not that great at flying jets, I usually avoid them, but the ambiance they add to a battlefield is amazing. Nothing beats rolling up in a tank while you're watching four jets battle above your head.

The graphics are beautiful! And yes, it does take quite a rig to run it on the highest settings. Luckily I have a few graphic cards laying around so i can experiment with different setups. I get about ~45 fps on my gtx 460 on High settings, which still look great. I get about 50 or so using a HD 6950. However, I get mid to low 20's on both cards when I'm using ultra settings. I do however have a second 6950, and using both at the same time I'm able to get mid 50's on Ultra. Yes, it does look great, but to be honest, just stick with High settings, the loss of frame rate isn't worth the better graphics.

Overall, this game is everything I've wanted in a battlefield game. I've been following the development of this game very closely since it was announced, and due to the beta gameplay, I was very worried that I was going to be disappointed. But DICE pulled through, and made an OUTSTANDING product, props to you DICE.

Alright, BF3 - hyped into the sky, an alleged CoD killer, set to do battle in a holiday season near you. Overall, it's fun - a fun game I'll play after work and into the night, laughing and screaming at my TV set as various shenanigans occur. SP is average, with a mix of brilliant and subpar moments, but MP is a worthy successor to the Battlefield franchise.

Overall, it's fun - a fun game I'll play after work and into the night, laughing and screaming at my TV set as various shenanigans occur. SP is average, with a mix of brilliant and subpar moments, but MP is a worthy successor to the Battlefield franchise.

Singleplayer is a decent experience. You play Sgt. Blackburn, whose name is satisfyingly on the fence between "Normal name" and "Awesome action name." The story is a somewhat garbled mess, as Alex Mason - er, Sgt. Blackburn - is debriefed by CIA-affiliate agents as to his knowledge about an impending nuclear terrorist attack. From what I piece together, the story is somewhat decently written, but the method of delivery is on a pendulum between perfect and god-awful storytelling. There are moments, such as the death of a certain character (no spoilers), where your brief experience with him/her causes a gut-wrenching scene that gives nice depth to the story, and there are other moments where you can't help but sit back and say "The hell?" As for singleplayer mechanics, Dice seems to be better at graphics and voice acting than level design and AI. Especially on harder difficulties, there are many, MANY instances of controller-smashing rage in the face of stupid difficulty - remember the PKM from Battlefield 2? Apparently, every machine gunner in the PLR uses it, and spites you by dropping normal weapons that have, you know, recoil. Your allied AI is impressive in certain scenes, but annoying in most firefights - in many places, they seem to have scripted cover locations that push you out of an already precarious position, and even then they suffer from Mook syndrome and can barely do anything. Granted, they are somewhat efficient at shooting the enemy, if you can trigger them to move up. Enemy AI is decent, using logical cover and shooting mechanics, but they too suffer from artificial stupidity and uncanny accuracy.

Graphics are bar none - Frostbite 2 seems to specialize in being a lighting-heavy engine, with shading and flashes going off in a spectacular display. To be clear - at one point, I stopped shooting and just panned around the city, because it looked so damn good - I don't even have an HDTV! I can't *imagine* what the PC rigs are getting, if consoles have the *minimum* PC graphic level.

MP is fun, though I haven't had much time with it. From the 3 games I have played, it's a great experience - the battle feels chaotic and like a warzone, not like a Quake arena match. Vehicles are adequately balanced, lending an "OH **** factor to infantry on the ground while not being too overpowered as to be unstoppable. Same goes for weapons, with DICE's particular brand of balancing - each weapon you unlock has its own flavor of advantages, aesthetics, and drawbacks. The balancing is no more apparent than in the attachments for weapons - each has a legitimate use, there are no "useless" attachments that no one will ever use.

Complaint, though - WHY NO TEAM CHAT, DICE?!? Overall, fun, well polished game. SP is average, but MP is a fun experience that plays like a war.

Personally, BF3 was something I truly expected a lot more out of when I played the game through yesterday; I was not really impressed. The campaign seemed short, the dialogue medicore (although Homefront's story sucked way, way more), and there were some glitches that made the experience less than thrilling. For example, one glitch I found was that I had to destroy an enemy helicopter with troops running into it at some airbase. I kept calling in my Warthog to destroy the target, aiming precisely where they were, but the game would not execute the kill. I ended up having to restart to a previous checkpoint, just so that I could try at it again. On the second run, I managed to kill the targets in question and moved on through the game. In the multi-player aspect of the game, I thought it was better than Battlefield 2, in some respects. The gameplay was more fluent, the controls seemed easier to work with, yet the maps I played on, such as Caspian Border, are way, way too big, even with 30 + players. I found myself alone for minutes at a time guarding some outpost before I would even see an enemy try to attack me. I appreciate the idea of having bigger maps, but not at the expense of not having continuing gameplay against other players. Does Battlefield 3 have good aspects to it, definitely. Do I think it is as bad as some other previous FPS I have played, such as Homefront, no. Yet, the story leaves something to be desired... an emotional connection, the multi-player feature seems pretty good, but map layouts are a big handicap, and subtle glitches made this game seem like it should have been in the works for some time more. That's just my honest opinion. I know the MW fanboys will scream with joy, and BF fanboys are going to have a blood vessel pop, but as I said previously, I am non-partisan to either game. Expand

It's all a matter of taste, after all. They each provide a certain type of entertainment – when talking about Battlefield 3, it involves a bigger game, more open in its possibilities and more spectacular. But on a longer timeline, less frantic and with fewer Bruce Willis scenes than the mass appeal beast it set itself to dethrone.
