Solid AC, personally i enjoyed it way more than last two entries. Specially from story and map design standpoint. It's just interesting to explore England and Norway. Empty desert in Origins and endless amount of Islands in Odyssey were just meh. But seems like they have almost perfected their idea how to make huge open world maps interesting.

DO NOT listen this minority who complains and hates new games. Never go back to AC1 or AC3, for the love of god, if you do, i will never buy your games again, i swear. AC Odyssey was weak, everyone knows it, but Valhalla was solid step back to what made AC games good. People seem to forget that Black Flag had huge open world to explore, so many locations. Only games from now on that deserve to be inspiration for future assassin's creed's are following: AC 4 Black Flag, Unity, some parts of Origins and Valhalla. That's it. I really believe in your company, you have made some great games over the years, please listen to your actual fans, who have supported you for years. Don't listen to small minority who just wants attention and wants to whine about your new games. They don't like anything you have made since 2013, there's absolutely zero reason to listen to them. Okay that's enough. This is not any kind of attack by the way. This is just my opinion, just like youtuber Luke Stephens had his opinion. This is just my opinion, just like youtuber Luke Stephens had his opinion. Well he is 100% wrong and has absolutely no idea what he is talking about. There's absolutely no question that i'm bigger AC fan that he could ever dream to be. Calling Valhalla garbage is biggest joke in years. Valhalla is easily better than both Origins and specially Odyssey. Valhalla is first AC game in long time where it has been really interesting to finally explore the open world. You mentioned how interesting pyramids were in Origins, well of course. But here the thing, they were one of the few interesting things about Origins. Most of it was boring empty desert. I don't hate Origins, but it wasn't as interesting as Valhalla. Valhalla has way better story, better character and better open world. You said that England doesn't have landmarks or places to explore. Kidding me? London? Stonehenge? Huge castles? Mountains in Norway? There's so much to explore. Valhalla is easily one of the better designed maps Ubisoft has ever done, just behind Black Flag. There you go. You said that you laugh at people who think Origins is meh, well i laugh at you saying that Valhalla is garbage. There's clearly, very clearly more people who like Valhalla than Origins. Valhalla was biggest PC launch for Ubisoft EVER. It had over 2 million players in launch month alone. Jor Raptor gets 100 000s views on almost every Valhalla video he makes. People very clearly like this game and many have said that they absolutely love Valhalla map designs. Showing your "poll" as some evidence is BS, because most people answered that they haven't even played this game, but you said that people agree with you. Hell no. Thankfully you don't get that many views, so i don't really care that much, but this one video made me write this, because it was just too much nonsense. If you can have your BS opinion, then i have every right to have my opinion about your video and point out false things. I have been Assassin's Creed supporter and fan over 10 years and i very likely like games that you don't even like, because you seem like somebody who hops on hype trains. You know very well that people who whine about new games are just nostalgia nerds who hate every game after AC 3. I have always liked Unity and even Syndicate and i strongly doubt you like them. If you do, fair, but my point about Valhalla's map stands. Expand

Overall: While at first it looked really nice graphically, i'm not extremely happy with this game. Water looks kind of weird at times, idk what it is, but some weird graphics effect. Another complaint would be that ocean feels really empty, there's hardly anything in the ocean, compared to Odyssey that had sunken temples and whales, sharks, sunken shipwrecks. Maybe i just haven't looked enough, but so far it seems that there's nothing to explore in the ocean in Valhalla and that's a shame. I was hoping for giant squids and stuff, because it's the correct region where they actually live in real life, but i guess Ubisoft didn't want to take that risk, because "giant squid too scary, whore cares that it actually exists". But negatives out of the way, it's still really solid Assassin's creed game. Not better than Black Flag, but overall it can be fun. I was just expecting little bit more. Hopefully next game will be this huge leap, but Valhalla is still okay. But it fixes so many things that Odyssey lacked, like solid story, more interesting map, not grindy anymore. There's room for improvement, like adding more legacy outfits, adding something to ocean?? Please Ubisoft?? Unless it was always meant to have empty ocean, but it's just weird idk. But like i said it's still way better than Odyssey, even with it's flaws.
Ranking: My 4th favorite Ac game.

Graphics is more realistic but colours are extremely oversaturated with drastic colour changes to the point that turning the camera results in repainting the entire world from green/blue to yellow/red. Also sunlight and beams are so strong to the point the they will hurt your eyes...

Every action has been slow down and and received some form of inertia, which makes everything feel slow, heavy and clunky, from simple movement, to changing direction, climbing and fighting, everything feels like a chore.
To perform some simple actions, like looting a big chest, you now have to call for help and wait until a member of your crew arrives, which is very annoying.
Opening crates and or harvesting is no longer possible, you have to smash the containers or the mineral nodes, wait for them to be destroyed, wait for the loot to pop up and finally spam the loot button cause you can no longer grab everything nearby with a single action...also hitting a container is a freaking lottery because the aim is completely messed up and your character constantly misses the object that is right in front of him.

Combat has lost its flow, it's no longer fast paced and has gained a useless stamina bar, also you can no longer craft arrows for whatever reason...!?
The game constantly take away the control of the camera from you, which could be fine for console but it's extremely annoying for PC; for instance every time you run and call your horse, the camera automatically rotates and show you the freaking ground forcing you to stop and wait for the horse to arrive...and if you try to fix the camera, it automatically turns back in the wrong position...

The map is a mess, icons that showed locations are now tiny white and yellow lights that you can barely see because the map is also white...genius...

Exploration is a pain in the ass, every freaking door is barred and you need to find an alternative hidden entrance or you have to find a oil jar to blow a barricade away, too bad the stupid jar is always hundreds of meters away, turning the whole process into an annoying treasure hunt chore.

Some of the sound effects are very loud and annoying, also some triggers are completely wrong and as you explore you constantly trigger the same sound over and over.

Music is not as good as in Odyssey, but it's ok.
    Voice acting is great.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This has all the potential of being a good game but it is seriously let down by some high caliber problems.
1- It simply isn't as good as its predecessor. Odyssey was better in most regards including fighting, ship conflict, style, scaling, characters, story etc.
2- They have kept that absolute SJW future crap where you totally lose immersion in the actual game by suddenly leaping forward to some irritating American woman wandering about trying to find alien artifacts. I get AC world has this metanarrative woven throughout but I have to be honest, it's a crap narrative and very poorly executed crap at that.
3- The controls are VERY clunky and unresponsive. In situations where timing is critical, the game totally fails you. I haven't ever become as irritated by a computer game as I have with AC Valhalla... It's worse that Odysseys issues.
4- The world is filled with treasure but apparently most of them are stupidly hard to get to and require really fiddly little arrow shots or wandering about for 10 minutes until you find a cellar entrance by accident. This is not puzzle solving team, it's just boring crap.
5- Eivor, the main character, is a nobody who is apparently somebody. He isn't a king, he doesn't have renown, he isn't even a clan chief, he is JUST a warrior. Maybe he is a good one but the character of somebody rolling with the big dogs of the day is nonsense. He is a nobody, he would have not been important enough to become close confidante of the Lothbrocks or kings etc.
6- In many instances, the Norse and Danes are considered by the game as the defacto good guys. Although I appreciate that Eivor needs to be a good guy in his world, the viking raids and the later Norse/Dane settlers were NOT in anyway good guys. The Saxons, Angles, Celts etc may also have had their dark sides and let's be honest, life in the dark ages was VERY brutal and hard but you cannot in any way write into existence that the fyrd would side with the invaders or that the local people of war torn Mercia would regard the invaders benevolently.
7- You have once again, like all the post modern age interpretations of faith, shat on Christianity and made paganism that included things like human sacrifice of slaves, legitimised rape and vile actions against Christians because they dared believe something else is just another attack on a Christianity that, regardless of whether you have any faith of any kind now, actually acted as an extremely peaceful and right giving faith. They ensured things like a universal system of laws which made murder wrong and taking a woman against her will illegal. Was it spotless, no of course not but civilisation has somewhat proven that it was a damn site better than the available other options.
8- The game crashes, regularly. In itself it isn't a huge deal but far out, for a very expensive full price and 'completed' game, it is very trashy.
9- Silver is useful only for sideline noise stuff like buying a new decoration for your extremely undersized boat. This is dumb. For a leader, jarl, king, lord etc, money was the sinews of war. Vikings particularly ONLY stayed with the man they were sworn to if their leader was a gold giver. Silver and gold should be WAY more critical to success in this game, instead you have put in things like chests full of iron ore and leather (what?) and ingots of metal to be the more important currency. Odyssey did this way better.
10- Ubisoft have damaged their recent games by being greedy. Making people BUY the game and then trying to sell currency packs or decoration packs etc is absurd. You are becoming dangerously close the EA in your profits first policy. This will be the last Ubisoft game I buy in a very long while, possibly ever.
11- It is thin. Odyssey felt, rich, vibrant, energised... fun. Valhalla is thin and very easy to put down and stop playing. I doubt I will be able to drag myself across the finish line, what a let down after Odyssey.
12- As a final remark, your horse riding is crap.

An extremely disappointing step-back from Odyssey. The story is acceptable, and many of the new raid and village-building mechanics are interesting. But it's all overshadowed by the cover-your-eyes awful combat.

It's hard to understand why, but the developers deliberately made the combat mechanics less precise. Perhaps some focus group feedback though Odyssey was too difficult? The parry timing window is now so huge that one may accidentally parry the wrong attack, and parrying itself is no longer necessary to win encounters. Also gone is the combo system from Odyssey, where Kassandra's next light/heavy attack would vary based on where it was in a five attack "combo" sequence. I can only assume this was a botched effort to make the combat easier for "casual" players, but the end result is to turn the combat into button mashing.

Ubisoft also puzzlingly expanded the skill tree and the number of points invested in it. The tree itself is now so huge that you have to scroll and zoom to see it all, like a google maps layout. This means that when you "level up," you can no longer see and feel an instant power difference, as you could in Odyssey. I assume this was to eliminate the "grind" in Odyssey, but a grind is only as boring as the content you're grinding through.

Naval battles, that gem from Black Flag that was partially resurrected in Odyssey, is gone again too.
As for non-combat world interaction, it's so clunky and awful that it feels like something from the PS1 or N64 era. It's a huge step back even from the foundational games of the series. For example, in 2009's Assassin's Creed II, when player-character Ezio walks through a crowd, he twists his body and puts his hands on people's shoulders to move them out of the way. In Valhalla, Eivor either walks through them like they're ghosts or gets stopped dead still like they're a brick wall.

I would add that neither the male for female voice actresses can stand-up to Melissanthi Mahut's portrayal of Kassandra, but that's really an unfair standard. Mahut's performance was one of the best in the history of gaming, comparable with Jennifer Hale (Commander Shepard, Mass Effect), Yuri Lowenthal (Peter Parker, Marvel's Spider-Man), and Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2).

I spent $100 on the deluxe edition without hesitation as a result of the goodwill Ubisoft earned with Odyssey, which was one of the best games of 2018. Valhalla wasn't worth it, and I regret the purchase.

Exceptional game, far and away the best of the most recent trilogy, and easily the best since Black Flag. Beautiful, relaxing, and fun, with combat that finally feels deep and challenging.

I'm not going to buy the game because I found out after updating the game, with a patch, there are more microtransactions. I want to enjoy the game, not look for money to buy equipment or armor, or worse, go through the game quietly. I'm done.

Brutal combat and parkour not as good, but good enough from Unity, exploration from Black Flag and Scale from Origins and bonus a lot of different enemies, locations and lands.

    Huge disappointment of a game.
    Pros:
    Combat is fun
    Visually stunning
    Cons:
Way longer than Odyssey despite Ubisoft saying it would be shorter
    Very repetitive tasks
    Terrible quest structure
    Crashes often
    Terribly optimized
    Weak story
    Bad parkour
    Horrendous exploration tasks
    Boring
Clearly, I didn't enjoy the game

I wanted to like this game. I preordered the deluxe edition, I even went back and entirely replayed Origins and Odyssey in anticipation. But replaying those games may be the crux of Valhalla. But replaying those games may be the crux of Valhalla. The world is in no way shape or form as beautiful or varied as the islands of Greece, or the sprawling sandscape of Egypt. It altogether feels very bland and uninteresting. I will say the character detail, and armor/clothing customization and upgrading system is excellent. I just wish there was more choices of sets compared to odyssey where you could have 30+ entirely unique outfits. Onto the story of Valhalla: it’s not good. You have essentially no choice in various outcomes that Ubisoft makes you think matter. The entire arc as a whole is just so unbelievably dry and devoid of flavor. The romance options feel very forced, and like I said, in many cases no matter what decisions you make the game already has a predetermined outcome. I wanted to love this game, Origins was just a glimpse into the masterpiece that was Odyssey, and I hoped Valhalla would go even further, but it didn’t. It’s worth picking up if it goes on sale, but at full price and compared to previous iterations it’s not that great of a game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is exceptional. Combat mechanics are very nice, every weapon is different and has its own movement, also the finishing moves are great, too. Exploration is wonderful, every time you encounter them, it's always different and not just some kill and fetch quests, and that's what makes this world of Saxon England feels alive.

The things that I don't like is Asgard, it's an isu world, so we should have Isu powers, just like in Odyssey, and the Asgard story is just boring. Castle sieges are also buggy, some enemy soldiers will only doing taunting, or attack nothing. I think wars mechanics in Odyssey is better than sieges in this game. And of course, there are also some bugs, like crashing, character stuck, etc.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am a great fan of the Assassin's Creed series and I have played every entry on PC. I enjoyed this game a lot with me spending 100+ hours on the campaign and still not completing the game 100% as I opted not bothering with the dream sequence storyline.
The game starts very slow and I was really worried in the beginning, but once you move to England the pace picks up. There are stuff to do, there are interesting side missions, interesting choices to make that will affect the ending and as always mixing the fantasy aspects of any AC game with real historical events is one of the great positive points of the game.
There a re only two negatives on the game in my opinion
Graphics: While not bad by any means, I can't see any real progress made compared with AC Odyssey.
Modern day assassins: The three characters that dive into Eivor's memories are... bland and forgettable

By the end of the game, I found myself just wanting it to be over, as if playing the game had been a full-time job and the slog finally came to an end. Overall, Valhalla was an ambitious game, but it's poorly paced and filled so full of repetitive fluff, and so anti-climatic in it's story moments, that I enjoyed only a small portion of the 90 hours I played.

I'll start with the good: The world of AC Valhalla is absolutely beautiful, with plenty to explore. The world is filled with diverse biomes, with terrain ranging from open fields to mountainous landscapes. This world is filled with short "world events" that, honestly, were my favorite part of the game. As mini-sidequests, they had a much lighter and more playful tone than the story, and many of them were actually hilarious. I think the best writing in the game can be found in these world events, and I always looked forward to reaching and experiencing every single one.

Starting to get into what I didn't like: The world is also filled with an encumbering amount of collectibles, that are often hidden behind the same generic puzzle (sometimes even the exact same), to the point where solving and collecting the item just becomes tedious. To make matters worse, you can't see what the collectible is before getting near it, so trying to actually grab any meaningful wealth items or collectibles feels almost like a lootbox with little pay-off, with their sole purpose to just take up your time.

I felt that way throughout the game, even with the main story. That so much of Valhalla just existed to drag out my experience, and force me to commit as many hours as possible in the illusion of it being a "massive" game. Truly, I felt like most of the game was just filler, with key story moments being rushed over and anticlimactic, while random arcs that very well should've been optional were forced on me and got more screentime than what should've been dramatic and critical plot moments. Similarly, the pacing of the story was awful, it felt like every time I started getting interesting in the main story, it would throw more (not optional) filler at me until I lost interest again. By the end, I had put 90 hours in Valhalla, but probably only actually enjoyed about 10 of those hours.

Don't get me wrong - some of the story is great, especially toward the end, but those moments are so few and far between that it's hard to appreciate them at all (especially when the whole main story arc is so tonally inconsistent, and constantly feels like it alternates between comedy and drama).

Though I don't usually complain too much about bugs, I did hit a few progression-blockers that really annoyed me. I can't even get to the game's epilogue now after finishing everything in the world, and a specific sidequest remains blocked by a known-issue that I'm just hoping will be fixed in a future update. Also, the bow (my favorite weapon in the game) has a quiver bug that results in me always having a lower arrow capacity I should, which was pretty annoying.

I loved AC Odyssey and it's world, and to-date, I think it's still my Assassins Creed game. Maybe the Viking setting just didn't interest me enough, or maybe story just wasn't the priority for this game, but if there was anything I could change, I'd wish for a more condensed version of Valhalla that focuses on what it does best, and eliminates the mediocre filler.

Assassins Creed is my favrotie series of all time, so im harder on this series than I am with any other game.. and while Valhalla is a great game and my score will reflect that, as an assassins creed game, assassins creed Valhalla isa complete disappointment.
Here you play as avore, becauseubisoft cares more about its precious sales you chose either man version or female version because ubisoft is afraid to commit and want to make everyone happy.. you set off on a Viking adventure to basically take over England during the dark ages.. and sadly this is more of a Viking game with assassins creed mechanics rather than an assassins creed game where you play as a Viking, the lore of the Templars and the assassins is there.. infct the whole uncovering the order side thing odyssey had going on is valhallas main focus, and I love that… however the game built around it is the most hallow money grab of a game in probably the entire assassins creed series… they sold you on Vikings, rob and pillage, this is fun about 0 times, its never fun going into an area for a raid, opening chests and collecting all of the loot, its repetive and bland, and that can be said for the entire game… im one to uncover every inch of an assassins creed game, read very document, platinum it.. but assassins creed Valhalla is so hollow that I found myself skipping through a lot of its dialog as the story is broken up into individual kingdoms you go out and help… this is less of an assassins creed game, you know.. a game where you relive memories of someone that was supposed to have actually existed to learn more about the orer and the places of the pieces of edden, and just a boring Viking game where you go from kingdom to kingdom taking care of that kingdoms individual problems, it’s a 70 hour long game of individual mini stories that by themselves could be okay experiences, but in an assassins creed game they feel like a waste of time not adding anything to the overall world of assassins creed, no one will remember Valhalla as a step forward for the series, infact in a lot fof places Valhalla steps back, for example its loot, there is next to none, yet you still collect it from time to time, its such an awkward system that you forget there are other weapons and armorus you can pick up.. youll mpost likely stick to the first or second piece of gear you find in the game and stick to that all the way through, especially thanks to the grind heavy upgrading system here that require a ridiculous amount of recourses to upgrade weapons… where Valhalla steps forward though is you making choices that actually matter, your choices have consequences, you have different paths with different characters you can go down that don’t feel empty like odyssey did.. but back to the intial point, this is great if assassins creed were an rpg seres set in different time periods… but its not, its meant to be an experience of a story already told, not an unwritten story of your grandpa and you get to chose if he banged other Vikings or not… tell me if avor was gay or not, don’t let me chose, again.. commit to a character, tell me their story… this is not a solution to the story telling critques players have.. this is assassins creed, not dragon age.. tell me the story as it happened… but this is thebiggest assins creed game to date, though bigger isn’t always better, another first, this s the first time I gave up on collecting all the things in an assassins creed game, for one,, again the world felt boring pointless and hallow, even the side quests that were supposed to be the talk of the town, except for the mini game orlog, it had its hooks in me like gwent, and I love hunting down the zealots of the land, bringing my back to the original assassins creed.. but the colelctables here, the game just makes you work too hard to get, one too many are locked behind story progress – why even put it on the map then… and evry other one ios locked behing an environment puzzle.. I don’t mind this eveyr once in a while , but map cleaning in assassins creed is a form of meditation, if I have to figure out how to get to literally every chest in the world, it isn’t meditation anymore, it’s a puzzle game outside of the story, no thanks. Also traversal here is probably the worst in the series too, its wakward, plenty pof annoying deaths at the hands of climbing, The biggest disappointment overall is this games story, the worst ending in history if you can even call it an ending and the outside of the animus world features the least likably protagonist of all time, smoking doesn’t make you look like a badass, it makes you look inconsiderate of the people around you, but again, assassins creed Valhalla is a great game, the combat is fun, you can go down different paths to play the way you prefer, brute, ranged, stealth, or a mix of all 3…

Now with that out the way I enjoyed my time with the game but I think the biggest problem with it for me was the length of it all. At first the story is pretty dang good. I loved going to parts of England and making alliances with all these different people but after maybe 20 hours I began to become tired of it and started realizing that there was a pattern to it.

    1. You go to the region hoping to make an alliance only to realize that there is a problem that needs to be solved before you could make one
    2. You help the fellow people solve their issue (usually ending with an attack on a fort of some sort)
    3. You finally get your alliance and (usually) never see these people again

I honestly wouldn't have a problem with these style of gameplay if it hadn't been for the fact that these alliances get in the way of the main story. In some cases the main story would come back into the game and this crazy event will take place leaving you on the edge of your seat wondering what is coming next only to realize that in order to get to the next part of the story you have to play through another 10 hrs of alliances. I enjoyed my time with AC Valhalla but near the end it felt like I was just going through the missions hoping that the next alliance I did either got me to the next part of the main story or got me to the ending of the game

Another issue, they claim the game was made by a team of all religions, but i had some side quests which were simply mockery of christianity. Robbing abbeys for monetary gains is kind of ok for me in a viking game but the side quest about a monk north of middletun for example that's plain mockery. Well it seems to make quite a lie out of the disclaimer about different beliefs and genders. Sosite hui pidarasi. Expand

The worst game from the worst game developers. Absolutely boring storytelling and gameplay

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is just my opinion. Your gameplay experience may be totally different.
    Contains spoilers!!!
I have played the game for 136 hours and have a 384 skill level.
The first 40 hours of gameplay were captivating and engrossing.
At 60 hours it became monotonous.
At 80 hours it was boring.
I didn’t waste time looting during the last two story arcs as I had already upgraded my gear to mythical.
When I had control of Basim (“I did it because of my family”) during the last Animus scene I just re-entered the Animus without interacting with any of the environment…I just wanted to end the game. We all know the “tree” has many stories to tell.
A lot of game resources could have been used to improve the core game if they omitted the immersion breaking Animus (current day) gameplay and data nodes.
Once you finish the “end game” you see a pop up stating something to the fact “you have more secrets to discover and more lands to explore.” My reply is I finished the game and regret buying the season pass. I probably won’t play any of the expansions or DLCs as it adds nothing to the end game nor do I have any incentive to replay the game.
Here are somethings I learned during my gameplay experience:
I used the raven only a dozen times. Totally useless in the game.
Most of your combat interactions will be melee so build around that.
Assassination is an afterthought in this game.
I upgraded the settlement to just below level 6…only to realize that the only buildings needed were the Hidden Ones Bureau for the Hidden Ones questlines and the cartographer. You spend very little time in your settlement anyway.
    • Stable not needed…available in most towns and cities.
    • Trader not needed…available in most towns and cities.
    • Seers hut not needed unless you want to do the side quests. You only get 10 skill points for completing both parts of the quest. You have to collect 30 “tears” for each part of the quest and you have a chance to kill a level 400 legendary animal. Entire side quests have no effect on the end game.
    • Fishing hut not needed unless you want to waste time on broken quests.
    • Hunting lodge not needed unless you want to waste time on broken quests.
    • Shipyard not needed unless you want to change the appearance of your longboat which you don’t spend that much time on. No other longboat upgrades available.
    • Tattoo shop not needed unless you want to constantly change the limited available tattoos and hair styles.
    • Barracks not needed unless you want to recruit other players Jomsvikings. Has no effect on monastery raids. Go into a monastery with Eivor, kill everyone and then use your horn to call your raiders as you need them to open up the doors and raid chests.
    • Museum not needed. Only gives you cosmetic items for your settlement.
    • Reda is worthless as you need a large amount of opals to buy his junk.
    • All other outbuildings not needed unless you want feast buffs. I only used the longhouse feast buff once as I didn’t see any real benefit of the buffs during gameplay.
Data nodes are useless. Just immersion breaking parkour puzzles that have nothing to do with the endgame. I did the first three data nodes and passed on the others.
Chasing flying books only to be rewarded with a random tattoo. I did three and passed on the rest of them.
The overabundance of “blocked” doors which have a chest with a miniscule amount of basic crafting materials and silver. Not worth the effort to solve the puzzles.
The berserker quest is useless. When you finish the quest you get to recruit the berserker and not the bear. The bear dies from old age at the end of the quest.
De-synchronized because I killed three civilians who happen to be in the middle of a quest/combat area.
The convoluted skill tree. Just a disaster. Granted you can respect at no cost, but it is a waste of time to respect from bear to raven to wolf as the scenario changes. It doesn’t make a difference near end game as you have the skill points for all three skill trees.
Yggdrasil story arc is boring and immersion breaking.
Most of the countryside is lifeless.
Would have been nice to have the ability to kill Basim by midgame and also the option to let Sigurd die in Fulke’s dungeon.
I won’t comment on the game breaking bugs as that is another topic in itself.
I have learned my lesson to not buy pre-order game bundles. I’ll just save my cash and wait awhile after a game is released to purchase it.

I get how people might give this game a mediocre score, it is what it is, and different people have different tastes - but I do not get how this game would be worth giving a bad score.

If you liked the open world of The Witcher, and the combat system of Odyssey (though in Valhalla the combat feels better and more fluid), then you will love this game as long as you can overlook the painstakingly mediocre Assassin story (although the "Viking" part of the story is very well made).

    - In-game store, that alone is a huge negative. Would the Metacritic allow me to give negative points then it would be a 10-. It contains stuff like "time savers." Like paying for something to enjoy exploration but then getting an offer to skip all of that?

With game mechanics such as blending in with crowds, sitting down on benches, and luring drunks, it's clear Ubisoft is trying to make all sides happy with old school AC and RPG. Unfortunately, this is what brings it down. Ubisoft also limited gear, to the point where you have little to look forward to. As a reward for almost everything in the game, you get skill points. You get so many skill points, you are able to fill out the different skill trees half way through the game and become godlike. I bumped all of the game difficulty options to max, and it was still too easy. Add to that, Enemies almost always present themselves in an area with their backs facing you and never moving, almost as if saying, "please assassinate me."

Zealots- Valhalla's version of mercenaries- just roam in a circle in their respective zone. They never hunt you, even though early in the game you're told they will come after you. The fights are very souls-like, which I would be ok with if given a reward but in most cases, you guest it- more skill points. Later in the game you may actually get some runes, but you will get so many of these and you are so overpowered you won't care.

The Story is pretty good, and probably one of the highlights. There's no side quests really- instead a bunch of world events scattered throughout the game. A lot of these are actually entertaining. Most are pretty funny. Unfortunately, all you are ever rewarded with are.... more skill points. So after doing a few, there's really no draw to partake in these.

Combat is much better in Valhalla- you can't just spam abilities and the Stamina bar encourages you to time your moves and abilities just right. I kind of like this- it provides a challenge. Timing your blocks, parry, and hits feels rewarding. Unfortunately, Ubisoft was lazy with the abilities, which are broken down in to ranged and melee. You find books to open up these abilities which is fine- but it's not long before you realize that a lot of abilities are just pointless, and some abilities do the exact same thing for ranged and melee. There's an axe throwing ability which does the same ranged as it does in melee. You also get a skill for poison and fire separate for ranged and melee. Why?

The Settlement portion was a neat idea, but again very lackluster. I read several interviews where this was supposed to make you care about your settelment inhabitants by improving their respective shelter. What I found was, the only one that mattered was the trading post, the blacksmith, and the hunting lodge. The rest seemed pointless. After upgrading a building, you might get a quest from who lives there, but it's one and done. The barracks is probably the most disappointing- it allows you to customize your own viking guard to go on your boat, but it's pointless. It behaves no different going on raids than the ones already on your boat. You can hire custom made Vikings throughout the game from other players, but again pointless- they do nothing more than the ones already provided.

Speaking of raids, this seems great at first. But they become boring when you realize there's no urgency. It tries to make it feel like you need to get in, pillage, and get out. But you can actually take your time trying to figure out the never ending "every building requires a puzzle to solve to get in (ugh)." To improve, there should be a limited time until some sort of reinforcements arrive and you are forced to retreat with what you have. Ubisoft should also make it to where your viking crew can die, making custom made viking units a little more valuable.

The graphics are of course amazing. Playing on an i7 9700k 2070 super setup at 1440P, everything looks great, particularly distant landscapes. There are a few annoying spots in large settlements where FPS drops- and it's frustrating that Ubisoft hasn't figured this out yet.

I must have replayed Odyssey a dozen times so far. I don't think I will replay Valhalla much because there's not much to bring me back.

The game gives you no reason to keep switching between armor sets/weapons. You can get a good set and just upgrade it most of the game. The fighting in the game is terrible. it's not smooth at all. character constantly bugs out. animations take too long and it's the same damn thing over and over. I really wanted to atleast beat the game to get some of my moneys worth but I really couldn't stand playing any longer.

The game world did look nice but nothing really stood out. Everything looked almost the same everywhere you went. The game is very forgettable. Also liked that they took off the grinding/level gating that ruined odyssey for me. Origins is still one of the best imo.

The game has its differential and its identity, but it is practically the same game with a different appearance, and a story of its own. Several animations are the same, movements, bugs during movement ...

The story is interesting at one point, but with a few "holes" like a "master killer" simply giving a stranger a hidden blade, although they "try" to justify it later, it is still quite strange in terms of lore.

The game has the problem that all AC's since Origins have been having, and getting worse, the game extends too long, there comes a time, when you can't stand playing the game anymore and practically activates the subtitles to see what the NPC's are going to say and skip the cutscenes, instead of the old ones that you were either satisfied with or wanted more from the game.

A point that bothered me a lot, is that at first it seemed interesting how you have a map and choose where you want to go first, this is really fantastic, but what it seems is that each employee was responsible for a part and did not communicate with others what was supposed to happen, for example, Eivor pissed off with some events in an area, which end up even worse, so you have 2 options, continue to the area designated as next, or make another turn to get allies, if you want to get allies, he isn’t pissed off and tries to do everything as quickly as possible to resolve the unfinished business in the previous area, he’s laughing, having fun, talking nice, or anything, and when you come back he's all mad again that you have to do everything as quickly as possible without thinking, swords up and plans are not necessary, and you're like: WTF?

The game is full of bugs, the game crashes, saves corrupt, quick travel is disabled, npcs bug and do not allow to continue a mission, some missions do not complete (I saw cases on youtube, where the guy can not deliver the last mission of the game, because it bugged the conversation with the NPC).

Secondary activities, at first glance, are fun, here called mysteries and artifacts, but 2 of them reach a point that became a nuisance ...
One of them is to run after a papyrus, as in the old games for example AC3, however, there was more "stuck" the issue of parkour, here as everything is scalable, it is very easy for Eivor to stop somewhere, try to climb where shouldn't, and you lose the papyrus and have to do it all over again.
Another is to stack some stones, at the beginning it is fun, relaxing, but it comes to some points in the game, that the type of balance has to be so perfect, in such a specific order of stones, that it is more angry than calming

And on the PC in particular, Ubisoft decided that no game of hers will have Achievments anymore, that for those who don’t care OK but for those who like it, don’t take the PC version, they justified that it was altered by such "challenges" , while on consoles there are 40 ~ 50 achievements, on Uplay there are 10 ~ 20 "challenges" that are things you don’t even have to try to do, like "complete the area, complete the mission", mandatory things, you it kind of ends the game with 100%, there are no achievements like "make all the mysteries of the world", they are simply things related to the main campaign, taking away every challenge from those who liked to put 100% with some real challenges.

Assassin's creed Valhalla is getting back on track in terms of history, especially with the "current" time, however, it is still a game mess, which does not know if it wants to be an RPG or an AC (even because you do not play with an assassin) for the 2nd game in a row, since Origins is the origin so it’s acceptable, you end up as one), where they only use the game’s “fabula” to justify an RPG, full of microtransactions from clothes full of effects, to resource boosts , in addition to the rapid devaluation of the game, on launch day (in my local currency) it was necessary 199BRL for the base game, with nothing, 40 days later, the game with all DLC's is coming out for 219BRL, leaving to whom is the saga fans , with muggle face.

Wait for a promotion, wait for the bugs to be 100%, play with patience, because one hour you will be playing out of obligation, and not for fun.

Valhalla has great campaign story, really long campaign lenght by the way even though is shorter in map size and less "RPG" than Odyssey for example. Story is interesting and has some very well developed characters (Eivor being the best)

In Valhalla, Ubisoft removed the grindy mechanics found in previous games (Origins and Odyssey) and brought back some of the good old stealth that made the series famous. There are some story arcs in the major cities that brought back ACII vibes, and it's really well done.

England's landscape is a delight. Green pastures, forests, swamps everything is nicely done.

Now for the bad parts: Game has some visual bugs (I played on PC on ultra), flickering, bugs where characters go under the ground, npcs running to the wall (enemies included), a very annoying bug when you load and your characters becomes drunk (also happens when you die and respawn which is even more annoying), I also had some crashes, all the crashes happened during quests, so once again, really really annoying. Fortunately, I didn't have game breaking bugs.

NPCs face models is really terrible, if you played the previous games you already know, it's the same engine so no enhancements, all npcs look terrible expect for the major one (3 or 4) and Eivor that is really well made.
Game has some 1999 fire effects it's ridiculous. Unbelievable, because water effects are so, so good and fire effects sucks. The major problem is that you interact a lot with fire during gameplay so it's really concerning.
Enemy AI still bad, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
Microtransactions. I can't say much because I didn't even open the store during my gameplay, you don't really need to and you don't feel compelled to, at least I didn't. From what I see in microtransactions store you'll find, clothing, weapons, mounts, exp boost, etc.
Like I said, it didn't bother me because I didn't feel the need to use, but microtransactions in a single player game is always bad, so that's a no-no.

Ubisoft will probably change engine for the next trilogy (as this one is most likely finished). If they fix those bad parts IMO (characters face models, AI, etc) the next Assassin's Creed might be even greater than this one, which is totally possible.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics.
