When I'm talking about game mechanics, I'm talking about the RPG looter aspect, combat mechanics, and story progression.

As a RPG looter, the whole skill tree idea that is utilized in many RPG games is embarrassing in Valhalla. Litterally google the skill tree in this game and be amazed on how bad they ruined the RPG aspect of this game. Additionally, the looting aspect is for some reason scaled back in Valhalla compaired to the previous titles. I litterally played for 20+ hours and found one piece of armor.

Combat mechanics for some reason in this title took a whole 5 steps backwards. It's clunky and has way too much going on, in addition; it's just so bad compared to the other games. There's barely any stealth aspects in the game.. seriously. You're forced to find "scrolls" all over the world to unlock special skills that you use in combat, where in Odyssey; you would unlock them by progressively leveling up.

As of the story progression, it''s repetitive and boring. You go spend hours on hours sailing around and riding on your horse looking for places to Raid with your vikings to build your village. Yes, it's cool but it's not cool to do over and over again and then you're forced to do so to move forward in the story. There's no stealth involved when it comes to doing the raids either.. which defeats the whole Assassin Creed aspect.

The only thing that made the game worth playing was the world in which you play in. It's a pretty, detailed world; I like how the snow would leave tracks when you treked through it. It was definitely nowehre near Red Dead Remdemption 2 however. I have no idea what the developers where thinking with this game this time around. Everything they did in Origins and Odyssey progressive got better with each title and then we come to Valhalla and they litterally ruined it. I would definitely pass up on this game and I'm quite let down with this title that I uninstalled halfway through.

It's not greatest game of all time, it's not best AC either, but it's not a bad game. Far from it. This is possibly LAST real AC game, so i'm not sure why anyone would even complain about it. Either play it and enjoy the last part in this series or then don't play it. It is what it is. But what it is- big beautiful open world, good graphics, very good voice acting (from male main character, female was meh), historical locations and so on. So yea i don't get the whining, because Ubisoft wont make anything better anyway anymore. This is the last one. Next one (if it ever comes out) will be possibly some live service nonsense, basically mobile game. Expand

I honestly can't help but feel like mystical stuff should be left outside of the AC game, and if they really want to make a game with mystical things, gods and powers, it should be a completely separate game, otherwise, it just breaks the flow, plot immersion, etc.

I'm a Assassin's Creed fan. I've been playing since AC1. I played 1-3 then took a break for awhile (mostly because I didn't have a console during those years) and picked it back up with AC: Origins. I really like how immersive and detailed these worlds are and are like take a walk through history. Origins I 100%ed. Odyssey I played continuously so much that I reconquered territoriesI'm a Assassin's Creed fan. I've been playing since AC1. I really like how immersive and detailed these worlds are and are like take a walk through history. Origins I 100%ed. Odyssey I played continuously so much that I reconquered territories because the battlefield combat was so much fun.
So what do I think about Valhalla? Valhalla seems to take every single aspect of every past AC game and shoves it into one game but in a diminished aspect. Then they fill they game with so much bloat it is overwhelming. Examples: your eagle from past games is back as a raven but is completely useless except for finding ONLY iron ore deposits. The ship mechanic from Black Flag and Odyssey is back but with zero combat and acts a giant horse for transporting your raiding crew. The hierarchy hit list is back but is crammed with, I kid you not, 48!!!! targets. Skills trees are back in the form of Skyrim's constellation but with, no joke, over 500 skill nodes! The problem is is that they are mostly just small stat buffs that you need to plow through to get to the occasional actual skill. There are maybe 40 abilities but I've found only 2 that are useful, like the Leap Attack and the Dog attack.
There is some good stuff to find here. The mini games are some of the best I've played recently. All of them are fun and never get boring. The world is still pretty beautiful but the engine is starting to show it's age. On PC the game has crashed more on me than any game I've played on my current rig. Raids are great. It's a blast to storm castles with your viking crew and tear through the opposition.
But the negatives outweigh the positives here. It seems that Ubisoft concentrated on quantity over quality. The map is huge with little POIs all over the place. But 90% are simple treasure chests with the same repetitive loot of iron, leathers and/or goods. To get to these chests you usually have a mini puzzle that involves finding your way past a barred or locked door. I think it would be more rewarding to have fewer puzzles that are longer/more difficult but with greater and more special rewards.
Here's the list of krap that has been crammed into this game Village building, hunting, fishing, raiding, hit lists, assassin missions, Asgard storyline, mini-games, and I'm sure there's lots I'm forgetting. A lot of stuff with very little of it interesting.
TLDR: It's just too much. I'm at power level 200 with half of the map unlocked and I feel like the game isn't showing me anything new at this point.
Now I want to address the obvious campaign by Ubisoft to boost their user score with hundreds of 10 ratings. Accounts that only review Valhalla... on all platforms with the same written review. When I read the negative reviews by real players they all state some flaw that I've seen in the game, which is a way I can tell it's a real review. Review bombing by corporations is disgusting. Just make a better game and the reviews take care of themselves.

But apart from that, the game nails the setting. Eivor is a fantastic character, especially the male voice actor. His story with Sigurd was an exciting one, and the world really pulled me in. I couldn't finish fully Odyssey, but here I managed to 100% while still being invested in the world. I think the element of a homestead was great, its fun to keep returning to such a central location. Hopefully this element stays. Next to that, the music was outstanding. The man who sings most of these songs is called Einar Selvik and he has a band Wardruna that is very old-norse inspired. I have been listening to his albums on repeat now for a good time, and its all thanks to AC Valhalla. Very satisfying conclusion, and I am looking forwards for the next one! Expand

I could for instance not play in 1440p on lowest without dipping below 60 fps. Now i have a 3090, and i can finally not only have memory enough to not play on lowest, but also performance needed to be anywhere with at least 60 fps.

Combat: The combat however doesn't entirely feel right. It has too much emphasis on open and large combats. Assassins Creed franchise is more about subtly assassinations in the shadows, but this game opens up to full raids. which is what occurred during the Viking raids.

Theme of the game: The game also isn't about an assassin, but Eivor, a Viking that meets an assassin and shares a common cause, so they work together, and Eivor does an assassin's work.

Theme of the story: The game is quite based around drama, and for me at least, i have not been able to come more than 50% story wise. But that doesn't mean it's bad by any means. Just less appealing for us who doesn't like over the top drama

The gear: This is the part that truly burned me out on open world games for a good while. There's way too much artificial inflation of how long it takes to gear properly up, with several micro materials needed to upgrade a gear piece at least once. So i cheated my way to get "infinite" resources to max out every gear.

So overall, i either think Ubisoft needs to make a choice and either have Assassins Creed split it's game up to 2 parts. One which focuses on assassins, and a second franchise that takes over where Valhalla started. Be a history telling game. And perhaps have the split series still relevant to each other, where you play as whoever future character will be involved and collaborating with the assassins, and the main franchise that focuses on the proper descendants of the ISU, Eivor might have been a reincarnation, but focus more of the assassins creed itself with direct descendants of the ISU for the main characters to delve much deeper into the history/prophecy of the ISU.

So overall score is not good, but not bad either. It has great entertainment value, but falls short of it's premise, combat to some extent, the way too much microgrid and replayability.

The textures in this game look mostly the same as Odyssey. Their is slight improvements to the character modals and of course some aspects do look nicer. But the textures overall haven't improved much at all.
I feel like way to much remains unchanged and that isn't a good thing when spending £60 on a new game. Ubisoft need to stop over working their devs and give them more time to give us a mind blowing experience when we buy a new AC game. I don't wanna pick up a new title and be able to compare them side by side seeing what's new and what isn't. When you compare the original AC games apart its like night and day but now comparing Odyssey to Valhalla is like 12pm to 3pm.

The horse riding in this game feels like something I would have expected 10 years ago. Even the 1st Red Dead Redemption game had better horse riding. The horses feel like they are imported from a car game and then a horse texture has been applied.
Certain textures in the game have a really low resolution and then others look amazing? Like the pin on character modals, Snow, smoke, horses... They all look out of place.

The map in this game makes Odyssey look like a complete planet. Its tiny. At 1st I thought I was just on the tutorial map. Nope that is the map. Like I said if you give the developers more time then they would be able to give us more content. Maps are supposed to get bigger not 1 third of the size. Well if the map is smaller then it must be packed full of content right? WRONG! Some things in this game just felt long and dragged out and didn't drive anything forward. Just unnecessary filler content that felt like just another thing to do and I just wanted to skip over it.

The monetization in this game sucks as well. I feel like Ubisoft are just creaming the series at this point. You can basically buy everything in this game for cash including weapons and XP. When I see that in a game I know not to expect much from it. That's when they no longer care about the games integrity and they are squeezing every last drop out of it and it really shows in the gameplay.
Randomly when I was playing the game, after the tutorial I was given loads of OP items out of no where? I think its cos I was playing the Ubisoft+ version but still things like this ruin the game as its not the way its supposed to be played.

Ubisoft just overall aren't the best place to get games from. I try not to be bias with the stuff I have read the company online. With all their good games they end up killing them with monetization and over saturating the market by releasing a new one every 5 minutes.

I am not saying this game is terrible thou. It just gets ruined by the publisher rinsing it for easy money. The story is overall quite good. Some of the side objectives are fun, like this dice game for example. The combat overall is fluent although unchanged from the previous game, although more healing supplies would be nice. At times I was running round like an idiot looking for health items. I believe this game would have lived up to expectations if it was given more time and wasn't ruined with buyable weapons, armor and XP. I hope Ubisoft gets brought out by a better company.

Odyssey has zero parkour (Valhalla has way more, in comparison at least). Over half of AC 3 map was just forests. There have been so many different kind of locations in AC series over past 10 years, yet some people are acting like Valhalla is first Assassin's Creed ever to have huge map, or have forest areas or whatever else these haters will find issue with.

Truth is Valhalla does parkour better than both Odyssey and Origins. Has better combination of huge forests and Cities, than AC 3. New York was absolutely pathetic in AC 3, in Valhalla you can climb and parkour way more in London + forest areas/mountains are so much better and have more variation than AC 3. Valhalla does so many similar things, that previous games have done and many of them better than last few games, yet somehow now this series is dying? Get out of here with that nonsense. I shouldn't even mention that it's selling better than Origins or Odyssey, but i will, will mention that just to make these haters even angrier.

Either way, from now on I REFUSE to consider these Valhalla haters as an actual Assassin's Creed fans, they simply aren't. So basically whenever i meet someone who claims to like AC series, my first question will always be - DO YOU LIKE VALHALLA and if the answer is NO, then i will just walk away. I refuse to interact with these losers for rest of my life. I'm just done!

These haters seem to be combination of people who actually never even cared for this series and those who only care about AC 1. Either way Black Flag is great, Unity is great, Syndicate is great, Origins is great and Valhalla is great. I don't even care, if Odyssey exists, it's just meaningless grind fest and AC 3 is just awful.

This game has incredible atmosphere and music. I literally spent over 30 minutes just climbing the walls of London and enjoying the sunset. There are many incredible looking locations in this game. If you go into walking mode, some of the best music pieces of AC series history, start playing.

I have seen that some are trying to point out, that this game is empty, that's not true at all.

I have seen that some are trying to point out, that this game is empty, that's not true at all. It has just enough things to explore, but some of the empty areas are very much intentional. Red Dead Redemption 2 was exactly the same way. There are areas that have interesting stuff and then there are areas of just nature, beaches, forests etc. After all it's trying to be realistic presentation of 800s Norway and England. It would be awful, if behind every corner was some monster to fight with or gang of soldiers. That's one of the reasons why Odyssey failed, it had too much unnecessary content and thankfully Valhalla fixes that mistake.

Story in this game isn't sadly strongest, but it's not bad either. Just somewhere in between. Some missions are very fun, some are very basic and even boring. For example i was way more interested in Black Flag's story. But to look at this game as a complete package, it's still very nice and overall game design/open world design is way better than last two entries.

I have no idea where AC is going next or what's happening with this series, but if Valhalla happens to be last decent AC, then at least this series ended on positive note.

Except for the crashes, they were all minor concerns for me.
I'm enjoying the game, but the story, writing, and dialogues are all mediocre. There's no real goal, nothing to propel you forward, and you're basically doing the **** for other people over and over again.
The gameplay is enjoyable, but not exceptional, and this is not an AC. It's attempting to link it to the franchise, but it's simply not possible; the parkour is so constrained that 90% of what you could do in unity is lost here.

Imagine being on a wall, looking behind you, and wanting to leap from the wall to another ledge, which is something you can do in every previous game, but you can't do it here. It's quite frustrating.
The hidden blade is practically useless; there is no incentive to go stealth other than to waste time. Eivor isn't even a member of the creed.

There are 5 songs on the boat; I couldn't find anyway to find find or unlock more; imagine sailing for 50 hours with the same 5 songs or just the sound of the water.

Eivor isn't really engaging or charismatic. He serves no actual function other than to serve as a slave to everyone.

Upgrades and all of the weapons' stats and runes seem pointless; all you need is XP and skills to get genuine power.

    So many micro-transactions my god.

This game is so simple, merely reaching the required strength level allows you to demolish anything... To find any challenges, I had to play in a higher power level zone.

This game is empty, no loot drop nothing, and I've discovered 5 weapons in 35 hours.

Technically, the game looks decent, but not great, and visually, it's just plain uninteresting. I'm using HDR, and I'm not sure if the game is bugged, but the colors are occasionally very flat.

Since Unity, I haven't really like any ac, but this one was quite interesting. I adore the Vikings, their history, mythology, and gods, but I doubt I would have played as long if I hadn't already learned about and enjoyed the period. I would have definitely stopped after 5 hours.

I'd like to talk about how this game handles gods, but it would be a major spoiler, and I'm not a fan.

If you're a long-time fan of AC, you'll probably dislike it, or if you do, it won't be the greatest for you.

If you like the new style of ac and odyssey, you'll probably enjoy this one as well. There's less grinding and a level cap, which is a plus.

This game tries to accomplish a lot of things, but it doesn't do any of them better than any other game. It's just okay, so I'll give it a 5.

So, while the games is better than Odyssey, being better than awful does not make you good. I've played every single Assassin's Creed game, and each one has done something that has stayed with me. The music, gameplay, story, writing, and so on. After 25 hours, Valhalla had done nothing to amaze me, no times where I stayed and thought, 'Wow, this is fantastic.'

It doesn't do anything differently from any other action game. And it certainly does not outperform the most well-known RPG on the market.

It's a shame because Valhalla has so much potential, and we all know that ubisoft can achieve greatness and has done so in the past.

But it appears like Ubisoft is simply not trying; they're settling for good enough. They're overly concentrated on developing as many games and microtransactions as possible in order to generate as much money as possible... They're on the wrong track, and I don't want to see the gaming business follow suit.

First of all, I am writing this review completely independently of AC Odyssey. Although many people say that Valhalla is very similar to Odyssey, not everyone plays this game as a serial. Maybe Valhalla could be the first AC game they played. However, I will mention the Odyssey part at the end.

The most striking feature of the game is the art design. Ubisoft has managed to create a world that looks very "beautiful", as it did in Odyssey. I say by suppressing the beautiful part because the game loses its authenticity because of this beauty. Although it is very pleasant to look around, it has an image that can upset some realists. Since I don't have such an obsession, I really enjoyed watching the surroundings. Although I like the snowy parts very much, I could not come across any snowfall in the game. Maybe it's not snowing in the game, but I hope it does. Although I think that the game has very good materials in terms of music, it is appropriate to say that these music were not used very successfully in the game. The game has a really interesting music, but this music does not play until the last mission, for example. While definitely noticing the ineffectiveness of the music in the game, it continued to be incredibly frustrating that the sounds the NPCs made had no meaning whatsoever.

In terms of gameplay, although Valhalla does not come with very innovative mechanics, it is a game that manages to play itself. There are still three classes in the game, but if you level up enough, you can join all classes. Valhalla, which is much more wild than the previous game, does not miss such animations, but after a while you see them all so much that you wish you could turn them off in the settings. The skills that make the game really fun are very limited compared to Odyssey. So you can't use it as easily as before. In addition, the game is really easy in terms of numerical values. Be sure to play the game by keeping the difficulty high. The biggest shortcomings in terms of gameplay are the endless bugs and control weirdlings that cost me 10 hours of my 70 hours of gameplay. The game really has a hard time understanding what you are trying to do on the keyboard. Considering that one of the main elements of this game is platforming, this interrupts the gameplay sequences. In addition, errors that require you to constantly load your old save may cause you to close the game at any time.

We wouldn't be wrong if we say that the only part of the game that got better after Odyssey is the story. Although I don't care about the so-called family story of Odyssey, which I can't even take seriously, it is definitely more enjoyable to manage our devoted brother Eivor, who is the 2nd king of the environment he is in, and who nevertheless works harder for his people than the 1st king and supports the 1st king on top of that. There are characters that show how close death is even to the main character, instead of the absurd characters who are resurrected just so that there is no deficiency in the family table, even though we kill like in Odyssey. Although you don't spend much time, the death of these characters definitely leaves something to you. It is also very nice to be asked to account for what you did in the game and to see what you did in the game, although it seems like it was taken from RDR2.

So why is Valhalla disliked? Because according to Odyssey, there is no real development in the game. If you've buried more than 50 hours in Odyssey, you might question why they made this game. In addition to the fighting mechanics that you did not realize have changed, the castle sieges, which turned into meaningless field battles, were just as ridiculous and you could complete the missions by simply opening the castle doors without killing anyone. In addition, the skills that make Odyssey really fun cannot be used as easily as Odyssey in Valhalla. Definitely do not play this game after Odyssey, make sure to squeeze in a few games. The biggest and most beautiful difference of Valhalla from Odyssey is that the story is more brutal and serious.

Valhalla is a really good game when evaluated independently of the game before it, but was this game really needed after Odyssey?

The game looks beautiful. Fighting is fun and feels great 80% of the time.

Now lets start with all that bad stuff...

    1. There is no linear story. You just have to complete every saga (Theres a saga for every area, so way too many) and it feels like you do side-mission like stuff. There are just a few missions where i didnt have the urge to just skip everything. It makes it even worse that you need about 70 hrs to complete every mission wich is doing the same stuff over and over again - worse than odyssey. But the worst thing is, that from the 70 hours playing the campaign you have to ride your horse 20 hrs because lots of missions take you to another location for each step.
    2. Its a game about vikings, not assassins. Origins was about the beginning of the brotherhood, odyssey about the isu. Valhalla was basically just a viking game that could have existed as a non assassins creed game if u would take away a few missions.
    3. BUGS. I dont want to talk about small bugs like people teleporting or getting thrown a mile into the air. I talk about not being able to end the Story because the last mission is bugged and there is no way to restart it. After 100 hrs of playing the game im unable to even finish it, even after years!#
    4. Gameplay. Again, its not Assassins Creed. Yeah, Black Flag had lots of not Assassins Creed like stuff and Edward Kenway was more like a Pirate than an Assassin but at least it had good stealth mechanics. Assassins WERE NOT warriors. The stealth mechanics where so bad i just rushed into the enemies to kill everyone that is in there.

It´s just so sad. I was not happy with Odyssey and thought it could only get better if they would get back to the core of assassins creed but this game is even less an Assassins Creed than Odyssey was. If u just want to play the game because youre a fan and at least want to know if there is something important that affects future AC Games: Don´t do it, please! Just see what happens in the present day on YouTube and you know basically everything you have to know. This game is the worst thing Ubisoft could do.

Like what did some of these people expect from Valhalla? To go back to Assassin's Creed Revelations? Are you kidding me? They would NEVER do that. Never. Most people (all the gamers who never cared about Ezio) started to care about AC when 4th one came out. That huge map, pirate theme and 1715 era was actually interesting. I love how none of these Valhalla haters never mention Black Flag, because it would automatically destroy every argument they possible could have. They know that people like Black Flag. Odyssey was a joke and everyone knows that. Valhalla was step in right direction and that direction was never going to be going back to anything that happened before Black Flag. Assassin's Creed is important and popular because of three games, these are - Black Flag (best map and main character), Unity - (best graphics and parkour) and Origins (it was different from previous ones). So yeah, these are the three options Ubisoft has. They will never go back to AC 1 style and you guys know why? Because it wouldn't sell even half that Valhalla did, that's why. AC 1 is outdated and boring and it never that good anyway, so it's literally time to move on. It is very likely they go back to something like Unity / Syndicate, while having some Black Flag elements like you can still have a boat or something. That would be perfect balance, but to go back to AC 1? Never, absolutely never. Expand

Game is a little bit more RPGish now, but is still has a lot of flaws. I liked how different weapons create different combat feeling, but crafting system in general felt odd. I literally levelled up first random set I found and kept it for the entire game. This is how unnecessary crafting was. I liked the blue mysteries on the map. These unique stories were a great idea to fill the map with content. The number of alliances to form was a madness though. I finished this game a week ago, and I can remember maybe two plots of these regional quests. Halfdan in Donecaestre and maybe crimes of Lunden. I never thought I would ever say, that game can be too big, but Valhalla clearly is. It makes you tired. And repetition kills all the brilliance of it. I would be happy to give it a score of 9 if Ubisoft made it around 20% smaller, and made the story stand out a little more. Expand

Everything is pretty much repetitive aftert 2-3 regions, as a Completionist at heart, I couldn't get myself to finish everything, midway in the game, I started rushing things a bit to get it over with. I would say this is a big downgrade from Odyssey and Origins on many aspects, even on the fighting mechanics. If anything, It felt as if Ubisoft was making this game as a beta test for a future AC MMORPG game, with the collections, daily and weekly quests along with "Mastery tower", which is a ripoff from WoW or FF14. You would know a good game if you would play the game again for reliving the experience, but unfortunately in this game, you are already fed up midway.

Now, I would usually rate this as a 6, since it is still an "acceptable game" and as biased I am as a AC fan, I have to force my hand and give it a max of 4. Why you may ask? Glitches/bugs everywhere, game crashes every few hours, stuck NPC, your own character stuck(happened 11 times unintentionally), bugged quests and mysteries which won't complete. I never had to manually save/load a game "just in case things mess up". I waited deliberately over 1 year to purchase this game in the hope I would play a polished version, but oh boy was I wrong, all I see is an endless list of Realmoney purchases in store and a game that is barely playable.

Other AC games got you immersed for hours on time, this game felt like a tormenting chore that you are impatiently waiting to finish. Normally I would buy an AC game without a hesitation, but I would surely check many reviews before purchasing the next one. Next game is coming in November of 2022, I will wait till 2024 before deciding to buy it out on a discount and hopefully this will be a better experience.

Do NOT buy this game unless you get a 70% discount on it, its not worth it.

Yes it is! Deal with it!

Now it's solid open-world AC game, but sadly it's not better than Black Flag. I just wish story/mission design was more interesting or unique. Black Flag had all kinds of unique mission designs and also story was better. In Valhalla missions aren't that interesting, but there's still many fun ones. But true star of Valhalla is it's open world and freedom to do whatever you feel like. That's what was missing from AC 1 for me, because these games can simply be so much more than just generic assassination games. AC is not and should not be Hitman. AC should be ALWAYS compared to games like GTA or Red Dead Redemption. You can do so much more in these games than just the basic story stuff and that same logic should apply to AC and most people seem to understand that. It seems to be minority who complains that AC is not so linear anymore. Most people seem to like that freedom and more activities. This open world is there for a reason! Might as well fill that open world with content and that's what Ubisoft did in both Black Flag and Valhalla, even Unity and Syndicate. That is the right direction.

Well, as usual, I waited for a bargain buy before purchase. Such a thing also gained me the extra content, etc.

Very disappointing indeed. I long-since wondered where the 'Assassin' part of the game titles disappeared to and this is certainly the least assassin-like of all. Most notably, castle/fort battles are just a plain ol' slugfest. The title should be changed to 'Melee Creed'.

The first few raids i undertook saw me lose a participant or two as I didn't have enough food-y things to heal them with. However, these became increasingly easy after I discovering that, if I went in alone, slaughtered everything moving, then called a raid, no one was lost and it was a quicker than pissing about with your NPC colleagues getting in the way all the time.

As in previous games, Ubisoft go out of their way to slow the play down by making your mount annoyingly slow in and around towns. However, this also extended quite a way from towns. Frustrating in and of itself but when the unmounted character can run fast than on a mount, why the f**k should you actually use one? Alas, no talented individual had come up with any (stable) mod that would bypass the startup garbage and the slow horse annoyance.

The world seems quite large and exploring it was far more rewarding than the actual game content itself.

Seriously disappointing was the re-introduction of those f**ked up 'chase the pages' things. Thus, I ignored all of those.

Far beyond everything was the constant crashing. Literally 5-6 times per hour for hours on end. The tedious, tedious, tedious pre-menu crap that one has to endure, including the "this game was made by people, trannies, and the religiously deluded of all descriptions" disclaimer, that cannot be skipped/bypassed made these crashed even more annoying. I used to think that UNITY had the longest startup of all the games but this crashing crapfest took that to new heights (depths)

Animus glitch twaddle which required platform jumping around to get to a data cache was also boring and I also skipped these after doing 3 or 4 of them.

Without the Odyssey ability to create several equipment loadouts, there is no incentive to change gear at all. One shoe will fit all.

Due to the crashing, river raids were certainly pointless as the raid will not count should the game crash while you are still doing one. Getting killed because, all of a sudden, you end up flying through the air across half the map, or getting stuck between your horse and a rock, or a slew of other bizarre glitchy terminations did nothing to enhance the gaming experience.

There seemed to be little or no consequence of choice for the main plot. One arm cedes leadership AND his woman quite happily to a character with no personality.

The ending made no logical sense at all: some random assassin from way back when gets mentally stacked inside some simulation and , magically, this causes his mortal form to not age at all. No sustenance required, no pissing, pooping or physical movement at all. Muscle atrophy after 1000 years of inaction would surely have affected a human body.

...and how was it that the long-lived Alexios/Cassandra character had no knowledge of any of the Assassin history at all?

All-in-all, not a thing I would recommend to anyone, and certainly NOT for 120Euro.

To say that they make same game every time is biggest nonsense possible. That's something that could be said for Doom or literally every souls game (different location and same idea, you just kill one boss after another and that's about million times more braindead game design than Assassin's Creed could ever be). I'm not even sure what these haters want this series to be, because to me it feels like, they don't care about it anyway. This "SaMe GaMe" argument could be said about every fighting game, forza horizon series (okay actually every racing game ever), Tomb Raider series and so on. I could give countless examples.

Assassin's Creed is at least interesting in a way that you can roam around in these ancient locations and time periods, to me that's cool. If you don't care about history and just want some mindless sht, then don't play these games. It's that simple. Of course not everything in these games is 100% historically accurate and that's completely fine. It's historical-fiction. Just like Red Dead redemption 2 is not 100% Historically accurate. Rockstar even said that 100% accurate game would make for just boring and depressing experience and i absolutely agree with that. Overall, Valhalla is very solid Assassin's Creed game.

The graphics are of course phenomenal and never-before seen, but what really stands out after spending some time going back and forth between Valhalla and older games is that the integration of storylines works much better than for instance in Odyssey or Black Flag - it feels a lot less as if I am checking off boxes or following the same set of random quests, and much more like a natural extension of exploring a gigantic world.

It has some elements of AC III and of course of the previous 2 games AC Origins and AC (Greek) can't even remember the name (that's how forgettable it was).

I would never recommend purchase of this game. If you get it for free or less than $10 then it could be cover the boredom you'll have while playing it.

Solid fun game, better than last 2 assassin's creed's that i can say. Not amazing, some missions are really boring, but open world makes up for it.

Vikings meet Taz the Tasmanian Devil. I have mixed feelings about this game. The minuses were 3rd person, Taz's whirlpool combat, raiding monasteries for lumber (not slaves and jewels), quests for worthless armour, the lame DLC, raiding your allies, the dream quests, the blank response when visiting allies, and the animus stuff which really killed off my interest in the game. And I couldn't kill the person responsible for my brother's torture and mutiiation. The plusses were a Vikings game, good scenery, rpg aspects, believable setting. The endgame was a sad experience for me. It could have been a lot more e.g. a long expedition to the east coast of America. There is so much empty space in the world that a construction kit would be great if only Ubi games could handle one. A missed opportunity to create an rpg masterpiece. Expand

It's pretty okay Assassin's Creed, nothing great or amazing, but still fun enough. Have to give it 10, because some people think it's really funny to give 0/10 to game they have never played.

    Pros:

    * They added a feature that allows you to assassinate in one hit regardless of how far above you the enemy is - this fixes the outstanding issues inherent to RPG mechanics
    * Love the location with the northern lights in Norway
    * The "World Events" / side quests are well-done
    * Social stealth returns in a limited manner
    * Better pacing when swimming in terms of the animations
    * Much better job on romance animations in this game
    * I liked the roaming music while in Ravensthorpe (basecamp in England), definitely felt like the Viking era for sure
    * I enjoyed the Flyting / Charisma options in conversation, that was a good idea
    * The Assassin bureaus were a nice touch, although woefully underutilized
    * Horses can now swim once upgraded
    * **SPOILER** - Toward the end of the game it looks like they are finally phasing Layla Hassan out of the series, at least to a degree which is fantastic. She is easily the most insufferable character in the entire franchise

    Cons:

    * Combat is downgraded from Odyssey - much more sloppy
    * Horse movement mechanics are downgraded from Odyssey in terms of just movement on terrain
    * Layla "The Bestest Evar" Hassan is still around - easily the most insufferable character I've ever seen in any game I've played. They get rid of Desmond, an actual good character and replace him with this awful Mary Sue.
    * Present day - while it's great to see Rebecca & Shaun return, they don't look even remotely like they have in past games (their rendering is AWFUL), but they at least have the same voice actors - again, it's too bad Layla is in the game and not Desmond - the present day story was so much more enjoyable with him as the protagonist - I hope Layla is killed off at some point as she is just a terrible character. I'd rather see just Shaun & Rebecca with William Miles involved since Desmond is gone. Don't need any feminist wet dream characters shoe-horned into the story for woke talking points
    * No mGPU support
    * Movement system in the game feels very clunky with delayed input (similar to AC Unity)
    * Game is basically Ubisoft's latest copy of Witcher 3 - they've done three in a row now
    * Tying into the above bullet, there is borderline zero stealth / assassination tactics in the game. Where the earlier games the player had to utilize some stealth mechanics to get near a target and kill them without being detected, as well as try to get out of the location undetected, these latest games are just open world combat games, the opposte of what AC games are supposed to be
    * Multiple forms of DRM to ensure you never really own the game, you're just renting it for as long as Denuvo and Ubisoft servers are online. Glad I didn't buy it
    * Like the last two games, the game is WAY too long. About 100 hours too long. In typical Ubisoft fashion, the game has a million side quests that add very little to the game shoe-horned in. Just concentrate on the main quests, Ubi. The problem with the game is if you don't do the side missions, your character will be significantly under-leveled making certain fights incredibly difficult later in the game. These games should be 30-60 hours and focus more on the story and less on a million side quests
    * RPG mechanics - they do not belong in an Assassin's Creed game
    * More Ubisoft over-the-top wokeness being injected into the narrative with way too much homosexuality references during quests and dialogue in areas particularly during a time period where it was not prevalent and would never have been tolerated. Ubisoft has gone so downhill - this is why I don't buy Ubisoft games anymore and play them "somewhere else"
    * Regarding the RPG mechanics - poor leveling placement of enemies that are far above the player's level forcing them to leave and come back later which kills immersion.
    * The "Social Stealth" system in the game is mostly worthless - I really miss the blending of old from AC2 / AC3 that made it feel like you could actually sneak around a bit. Just an awful blending / stealth system. These last 3 games have not been Assassin's Creed games
    * Very unstable game - frequent crashes to desktop
    * **SPOILER** - Regarding the end of the game...not a fan of the way they are handling Sages in the story related to reincarnations of people from the ISU time period. It's making things incredibly convoluted and honestly quite stupid
    * This is, quite frankly, my least favorite of the entire series. It's the least "Assassin's Creed" game of all of the games. Eivor is just some bloke running around doing things that happen to coincide with the Assassins' objectives, sort of like Edward Kenway in AC4, but without a good payoff at the end, and and basically no involvement of the Assassins.

    Game Length: ~130 hrs.

    Overall Rating: 2/10.

They put a underpants on the Discobolo statue! For a game where the main function is to kill, steal, hunt, are they caring about a little ass?

Beautiful open world, huge maps to explore, and very good combat make this one of the best games in the series.
The battles are more brutal than ever, very bloody, the graphics are story driven, I recommend to all fans of this series.
One of the best in the Assassins Creed series thanks Ubisoft!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have played through this game twice, including dlc, so well over 150 hours, and it was torture, you have no connection with the characters at all, you don't care if they live or die, or actually in the case of Sigurd( sp.) I wanted him dead. The game is so boring and repetitive, and pointless. I really tried to like it, but it is an empty shell. I played one hour of Mass Effect which I have played about 100 times and felt so much more invested than 150 hours of AC. I could go on for an hour telling all the things I hated about this game but I won't. Waste of money. Expand

Female vikings??? Just simply no. Assassin's creed used to teach us great lessons about history. Benjamin Franklin was a man. George Washington was a man. Leonardo Vinci was a man. Roman legionaries were all men. All soldiers during middle ages and ancient era were men. Why do we now have to see ahistorical garbage like female vikings?

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a great-looking open-world game with impressive landscapes and cinematography. However, the checklist collectible open-world still needs some work to feel truly engaging, and combat is too tedious and too frequent to be compelling. As a lapsed fan of Assassin's Creed trying to see if I can click with the series once again, Valhalla didn't quite hook me as I was hoping it would.

Assassins Creed Valhalla is a lot of fun and easy to sink dozens of hours into. It is the best entry in the more recent trilogy and genuinely elevates the gameplay mechanics. Content could be considered somewhat bloated still, but it is diverse enough and the setting and story is solid most of the way through.

Sneaking is fun, fighting is fun, walking through the great outdoors is so much fun. Sightseeing too! Valhalla is free minded and could be innovative, but lacks skills to persuade its players about that. [Issue#308]
