The best part of the game is the graphics and some gameplay. The rest of the game is boring and of the same type. Again Electronic Arts hurried with the release.

The story does seem to be info dumpy at places and other places too much show and no info. Though i actually think there could be a lot of depth still to be revealed which i haven't accessed yet only having about 20 hours of time on it so far.

Overall I am impressed and am really enjoying it. Will i be going back to Destiny or Diablo soon...probably not for a while. It all depends on the end game.

    ++++ :
    + Nervous gameplay
    + Feeling of power
+ a relatively large and beautiful map
    + The loot race
    + Good weapons

    - The content (weapons, challenges, fortress) is a little poor although it is worth the detour. Additional content will be added soon.

    Conclusion :
A technological monster that we enjoy playing and just waiting to be evolved and corrected on certain aspects

So, if you were expecting a single player rpg, guess what, this is not one of them.
I never really enjoyed Destiny, nor Warframe, but Anthem just "clicks" with me.

I'm in love with this game! Haven't been so hooked since many years. In my opinion the story is really interesting and very dynamic, javelins control is amazing and I FEEL the power of guns, grenades and rockets shot by my ranger.
I must be a lucky guy as I never have any of these errors that many users complain about.
You at least should try it if you are a fan of shooters or big ass mecha.

Changing the settings from Ultra to Low does nothing...
I tried every generic "fix" out there as well as messing around with windows and the hardware nothing helps....

    p.s
In BF5 we had dx12 and "render future frame" options that gave a substantial boost to performance in anthem those options are non existent and you cant even use the console commands like in BF5

There's some fantastic melee abilities like ghost projections that can autonomously use melee abilities, but those few cool things are weighed down by the inexplicable cave drawings in a far future setting and generic weapons (that are incredibly boring) a few hundred years behind javelin tech; Bioware has regressed far future sci-fi by at least a few decades.

All of this on top of bad AI, bad map design, bad mission layout and design and guns that are so broken, bullets fire up to 70 ft to the right of the target. I have never seen that in the last 1100 games i've played.

This game is an astonishing disaster and a new low for sci fi.

At first, it seems like the game has a lot of potential. And for the first hour or so, it's great. However, the cracks quickly show after that.
The combat, while fun for a while, is repetitive, and lacking in many tells and features that make other looter-shooter games fun to play. For example, enemies rarely make sound, so they can just sneak up behind you unknowingly. Shielded enemies, which you must get behind to attack, can turn on a dime, ruining your strategy. Those are just a few things wrong with the combat.
The dialogue fares no better. It never feels like any of your choices matter, and it rarely helps you learn about the world, or the people who inhabit it.
The open world, while visually stunning, is always the same environment no matter where you are. Everywhere looks the exact same. However, I can praise the verticality of it, as that is something I wish more games did.
The loading times are atrocious. I can make myself a sandwich in the amount of time it takes to load anything.
Do I even need to bring up the Tombs mission? It's simply a way to pad out the game length by forcing freeplay. And by making all of the requirements to complete it specific per player, like "open x chests", and it doesn't count if a teammate does it, it completely goes against the very nature of these kinds of games.
The game is an unfinished mess. And don't say "Patches will fix it". Patches cannot fix problems that are so deeply rooted in the design of the game. It may be able to shave seconds off of loading times, or fix bugs, but the game is how it is. No amount of new content will change that.
The live service model was always a terrible model for a game. Not only asking players to buy unfinished slop, but then creating artificial addiction by constantly adding content, rather than creating engaging gameplay.
I will never be supporting any live service game again.
Also, looks like EA has their bots out, in hopes to raise the score.

The fort is quite nice to see the different people. Customization is extremely deep with both javelin loadouts and fashion. The only thing they need to add in my opinion is more content. The controls are pretty solid, takes a bit of getting used to, but are quite good once you get used to them. The music is phenomenal and the art design is top tier. Expand

This game is getting destroyed not only in reviews but by sales. I think the reason is the fact this is BioWare. I think the reason is the fact this is BioWare. A name that usually represents greatness in story telling, immersion and atmosphere. KOTOR, Mass Effect, Jade Empire, Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights. I know this is EA's Bioware but that name isn't usually slapped on Triple A schlock like this. And that's exactly what it is. Triple A schlock. It's not the worst game ever. It's not great. It's meh... but the execution is what really makes me disappointed. BioWare can't do a Destiny style co-op game. You can't have high paced online action and story. You just have 4 people sitting around bored listening to dialog saying "come on already" the two styles clash so poorly together I'm surprised the game strongly recommends NEVER doing solo missions. Maybe the story might come across better if people weren't speed running missions and emoting in front of "important" critical story moments. But I doubt it.

And this game commits the biggest sin of "BECAUSE BIOWARE" I've ever seen. ME: Andromeda had some issues in this regard but that game fits what BioWare is about. We have dialog options that literally serve NO purpose. They have absolutely no effect on characters, missions don't change based off them... you don't even get a different reaction based on what you say. I tested it when my progress was reset during the trial. I picked all the different "dialog options" and the characters said the same thing with maybe an extra "well" or "yeah but" then the rest was the same. Why are they there? BECAUSE BIOWARE.

Factions make no sense... you don't pick one, you level them all up. There's no real difference between them. I've played this game for days now and I for the life of me can't tell the difference between them. Or why I level some up by doing certain things? Why are they there? BECAUSE BIOWARE.

Optional NPC dialog that usually provides some backstory or become interesting threads are just "Oh you're a freelancer cool... blah blah blah freelancer honor" what was the point of that? Was that supposed to immerse me into this city's people or... maybe give civilians something to do? I don't know but it's there to waste time BECAUSE BIOWARE.

Nothing fits well. High paced action will literally grind to halt so we can get a cutscene of our character doing something. Just our character.... not my 3 other friends I did the mission with. Like Destiny does... you see your friends in some scenes in Destiny. But here they might as well not exist in my story. Where do they go during cutscenes? Into their own personal cutscene where my character isn't in. Why? BECAUSE I actually don't know. Why this game literally forces co-op on you to do NOTHING with it in the story makes no sense. It wants to be an immersive story driven game but forced co-op doesn't make sense.

But it's not all bad. The Javelins are fun to control, flying and combat is amazing. Some boss battles are really fun and challenging. There is fun to be had here. But I can't believe I'm saying this... Destiny 2 did it better. There's more stuff to do. Characters have their own special role. The Javelins aren't different from each other and feel extremely similar all except the Colossus. And Destiny 2 goes "blah blah blah hand wave story now go kill stuff!" Here it's go kill a few things but ONLY a few things... cause you have to listen to 5 minute long conversation then get the next objective marker. Kill a few more things wait for dialog to be over and then the objective will finally come in on the map. Rinse repeat then the mission is over before you know it.

So it would be a 7/10 as it's fun but not good. However the game crashes and freezes every hour! Literally the EA servers can't handle this game. Friends drop out of missions at least twice every time. And it's like this on PC, Xbox and PS4. This game is so unstable half my friends decide to stop playing through a mission cause they can't stand being kicked so often we just end up playing something else.

This isn't BioWare... it's EA's BioWare. And it shows.

While out exploring the world, I’ve found three separate instances where it’s obvious they have planned DLC ready to open up should Anthem do well. I acknowledge there have been a few kinks in the system due to releasing the game a month or two before it was actually ready for lunch, but this is an industry wide problem. New games today keep looking better and better, but for some reason, they keep leaving optimization and bug fixes to after release date. Anthem is one of these games with multiple serious bugs, optimization problems, connectivity issues, constant crashing, lack of content, a small map with just a couple unique places and another loading screen after another,

My first day felt like I was being pushed to go and shop items in Vanity Store constantly. What is hilarious is that there isn't even much to buy in there. $10 skins for a game which costs $60 is just one of the disgusting things in this game. Some Bioware loyalists keep defending this by saying "you can buy them with in-game credits". Yes, you can by grinding around 5-20 hours for them. None of these armor parts are lootable or be gained as a reward from missions. Is game basically is just a looter-shooter, then why there is no great loot to be gained anywhere? Weapons are just the same with a different name and colors. None of them has anything unique to them and other loot like parts are just to build stronger versions of these weapons and other invisible mods to your Javelin.

The world of Anthem looked great in the E3 trailer. It really did and I was excited to get in there. I just didn't expect the whole map to be more of the same seen in the trailer with a huuuge downgrade. In the trailer we see these animal running around, birds flying in flocks, those big walker things walking around while one gets destroyed with amazing fireworks. You know a beautiful dynamic world like many other games are starting to have now. None of that is in the actual game we got. Bird respawn mid-air front of your eyes and does only have one flight pattern which is forward and honestly, they don't look great even from a long distance. Those walkers are just lifeless unanimated objects and even those beautiful fireworks are gone.

Actual flight distance has been also downgraded. Now we need cooling around half the time that Javelin did in the E3 trailer. Overall flying is the best thing in this game and for that, I'm giving 2 out of 10 and not 1 out of 10.

Briefly, this game has a lot of great ideas, but terrible execution.

I love the way you experience the story as single-player, but combat is PvE multiplayer. Fighting intense battles and then relax and experience/explore Fort Tarsis for the story.

Anthem is the most gorgeous loading simulator...
After every mission, you have to wait way too long.

This game is definitely not bad and people giving it negative reviews are just bitter that Bioware's A team made this instead of Mass Effect Andromeda. However, Anthem is also painfully average - so average, in fact, that I can't even be bothered to write a detailed review. So to sum it up, here's a list of pros and cons.

Pros: - looks gorgeous - flying feels exhilarating, at least

However, Anthem is also painfully average - so average, in fact, that I can't even be bothered to write a detailed review. So to sum it up, here's a list of pros and cons.

    Pros:
    - looks gorgeous
    - flying feels exhilarating, at least for the first few hours
    - good controls
    - good sound design
    - technically competent
    - the javelins are cool
    - it's better than Fallout 76

    Cons:
    - gets boring real fast
    - repetitive missions (fly from point A to point B, shoot stuff for a bit, collect stuff, go back to the hub, do it all over again)
    - attempts to build a unique world with rich lore but ends up feeling generic and pretentious
    - long loading times
    - has none of the Bioware storytelling magic we're used to

That's about it. Anthem doesn't deserve the hate it's getting, as it's a decently made game. The only problem is that there's not really much to do in it, and what little there is gets boring quickly. It has a lot of potential and it could've been a great singleplayer game. It really just feels like someone took the better parts of what was meant to be Mass Effect Andromeda, and turned it into a separate title. Obviously there's space for improvement and I'm sure more content will be released eventually, but right now Anthem's just not worth it. Buy it when it's on sale and after they've inevitably released some major DLC.

Having a blast and it looks like they have a lot of plans to keep expanding the game, with new strongholds, missions, and stories. Just because its ea does not mean its always crap. Are there things i want done right now? Yes but name one game that is perfect on launch. Hope it get the chance with players it deserves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

+For now I played interceptor and colossus, the javelins have a very different feel and and can be further customized to fit your play style.
+ easy to be matched up with randoms for missions, as I don't have any friends who play this also

    - Story doesn't interest me that much, but it's good it's there to give some background lore. But hey, for me the story in for example Dark souls 3 and dying light did not interest me either and these are two of my favorite games. Because they are just fun.
    - When done with missions getting new ones feels like a chore to me
    - I'd say the loading screens from time to time, but with an SSD it's really not that bad. Something like 30 seconds to get in or out town. People are either exaggerating or have patato pc's. Ever played GTA V / Online?! After experiencing that, this is peanuts concerning loading times.
    - Micro transactions, just ignore them totally, I do.

I get there is a lot of hate towards EA for well,... being EA.
I get people hoped for a Bioware story as deep as KOTOR and are disappointed it's nothing close to that.
I get people are mad they did not get everything they were promised during development time (that took six years)
I get people are mad because the game has micro transactions.

What I don't get is that people rate Anthem 0 - 4 out of 10 because of the reasons written above.

In the end, it's looter/shooter with that's great fun! If that is enough for you, as it is for me, then you'll have an awesome game.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play Anthem.

But if you do the side quests and just talking to the npc then there is a great story there. But it just doesn't end with that you need to find the cortex and read your mail. The story goes so much deeper then.

As for the issue's yes there are some, but they are being corrected quickly or have been corrected. Those that were in the early release had some rough times but as most reviews are from the day of release those issue have been fixed. Game is truly only a few days old at this point so there will be some hiccups. Bioware has a road map for new events and content coming out, not months down the road but just a few days away starting in March.

Graphics are amazing, the environment is fun just to be in and watch how it changes. And the javelins each have a different play style to suit your style. I'm truly enjoying the game and having some of the most fun with my group in years. All I can say is try the game for yourself.

After about 43 hour (mostly played as single player game) I'm still excited to start my PC to play this game. Thanks to its fun satisfying combat , wonderful sound and visual.

I have only played one of the classes yet (colossus) what is a tanky type "frame" and I am not interested the rest yet because Its so much fun. Rushing through dozens of enemies killing them with bare physics running over them and knocking them down like a real tank than launch a huge fire combo on them is a blast.

There is six difficulty level easy, normal, hard, than you can unlock other three at lvl30 master I,II,III.
I don't like easy games but I have to play it on normal because it was already enough a chalange I just imagine how hard it Will be to play the master levels.

Flying around feels very good and World looks absolutely beautiful and very detailed the sci-fi vibe is strong. The artist who worked on the World did a pretty good job I think. Birds flying around you
and other wildlife roaming on the ground while the trees and flowers bend by the forces of the strorm or breeze while you flying through canyons and ruins of the ancient civilization.

Although its not a real old style bioware single player game I found the story and the lore interesting and there are also a lot of conversation with a few choice to direct the outcome of the story of some of the character at your home town (its the single player hub of the game) and this time they it feels they really put a lot of time in these to make its quality as good as possible so it can't be criticized as much Andromeda. The town also changing through your gameplay in an "immersive way".

The performance is great with my GTX980 4GB and Ryzen 2600x 16GB. I put everything ultra except textures High and lighting High but with HBAO+ Full. and its rarely drops below 50. It mostly feels a stable 60-70fps and I think thats pretty good from this hardware.

I can understad some of the low scores here but I have seen a lot of non deserved negative critic also. Like the lowest score "professional reviewer" mentioned there are not enough cosmetic option and most locked behind a paywall. I thought ... What??? After about 15hour gameplay I had enough currency to unlock the ecic skin set and about four rare set but I did not because I found the color customusation more than enough for now. There are at least 7 layer and about 30 different textures and colors to customize these layers there are vinyls etc. the general customoization is actually pretty good and you can unlock new ones every day by buying it from ingame currency from the ingame store (rare color 3k, epic vinyl 20k) I have about 130k credit after43 hour but you can earn about 1-3k credit or more within an hour after 20lvl+. Btw why worry about Cosmetics and that its not easy to unlock when the combat is the fun part? Or maybe not. I guess you eaither like the gameplay and its challenges enough or not thats all.

Also I have seen the complaint of repetitiveness. sure after about 40-50 hour when you have almost seen everything and finish the main story you can start to feel the repetitiveness but it was ever the same with many looting shooting game. Warframe for example ... I have played that game for about 1000 hour its combat and areas much more repetitive than Anthem still hundreds of thousands play it and enjoy it. Yes its "free" go figure. :D What about games like Diablo with its 3-4 act same repetitiveness . Millions loved it..... Why? Because its gameplay. Repetitiveness is not an issue unless the gamplay is fun and with Anthem I think its there and it Will be even better with its expansive World and new challenges and things to unlock in the future what is planned.

Don't belive the hate and the low scores just by a "Premium Access" and try it out yoursefl like I did. Even If I would stop playing it now I got more than enough from my 15 bucks what I could get with any new game out there. 43hour fun for 15 is not a bad deal I think. I guess I Will buy the full game sooner or later in the future.

However this is not a game that is a "flop" or a game with "no heart" as people have said. I agree that in its current state it does not deserve the 60$ price tag that it has or to be called a finished game, but underneath this there is a game that has a strong core that can easily be improved (and yes it should have to be improved this much when it is a game that has been in the works for 3-6 years). I'm not saying it is a great game and people shouldn't hate it because they are going to fix it in the future. I'm saying that this is a chapter 1 of a story that at this rate wont get to be told if it is crushed. I understand what many people mean about this being a very repetitive game in terms of the shear lack of creativity and diversity in the types of missions and the story being lacking compared to Bioware games of old. This is not a Bioware of old game however, and at least to me has never tried to be. This genre and the games in it, Destiny and the Division both had similar stories which were there but weren't the main focus. Destiny if you really wanted story you would go to the grimoire. The division you got a bit more story out of the main game but you would still go around New York and collect Intel and other pieces of lore to find out more about what had happened in the city. This is present in Anthem, this is story if you want it but not in the way that they did it back with their games like KOTOR.

These games are all about the endgame which is getting the best gear and then getting the best roles on the best gear. Anthem does this, kind of. The end game is there but not balanced, there is no reason to play above grandmaster 1 unless you like dying to everything, and although they have a decent assortment of weapons and gear which can all role with different perks very similar to Diablo or the division, there is not enough staying power once you get these. The endgame is there but it just isn't enough, it is about half of what they really need and from what they have said on the road map we wont get the other half till May.

So if you are looking at the game currently there is about 40-60 hours of content to play and enjoy, if that is enough to get you to May when they should be releasing the other half of the end game which we should have been getting more like a 4-6 weeks after release then buy the game. It truly is a fun experience to play and the feeling of seeing your javelin come together with different masterworks is great, but if you are someone who doesn't want there it be and shortage of content to play, then wait, get it in April or May if you are still interested then.

As of right know though it is a chapter 1 of what can be a large expansive story, its up to you to decide if you want to get in at chapter 1 and wait for the next chapters or get in at chapter 5 however long from know that is.

Dull story full of cliché; empty world; uncomfortable inventory; etc.
It should be a hybrid game (game service if you want), but as of now, it looks like a pack of multiplayer maps with same bundle of activities.
There are no script-scenes, good story and story twists, variable of missions and step-by-step world exploration where you can get something new with every new mission.
There is no scoreboard, big hub / socializer for players, no proper stats exploration and comparison with others, no clues on what other characters are wearing, you cannot identifier player's level or equipment. Indeed there is a freaking good suit customization, but that's pointless as it serves only as cosmetics.
The only service that is offered is grind for now. Not really good to call it AAA complete release.

This wouldn't be so bad if at one point this title didn't attempt to advertise that the actions of the player would impact the world around them and shape relationships. That was a bold faced lie nothing you do in reference to character interaction will have any form of significant impact on the game. Now you will be able to "impact" the lives of some of the smaller side characters but only minimally and you never really feel the reward or consequence of these actions outside of sound bytes given to you by the NPC's involved. I understand this was never intended to be a story rich experience but even going in with low expectations I found myself disappointed. The player is expected to be wholly invested in the events and characters around you whilst the only way the game truly expands on the concepts you're learning about is through codex entries that are about as engaging to read as some of my college textbooks. All these complaints and let downs without even touching on the fact that should you even try to engross yourself in this world all you're really doing is slowing your friends down who might just want to get on to the next mission but are stuck waiting on you to finish just one more conversation. Now you might think "just let your friends move on and go at your own pace" sure except because of the disastrous load times you'll often find the random squad you joined to complete this mission have long since loaded in and have sped off to the starting area without you which will force you to sit through yet another drab loading screen before you're thrust into the middle of a random battle with no sense as to why you're doing what you're doing. There is of course the option to play in private matches by yourself but then that tasks you with taking on the mission completely alone. You aren't given the option to call on any of the characters you've interacted with inside fort Tarsis to aid you even though many of them can use javelins. Missions are ridiculously easy on standard difficulties so it isn't as if you're suffering with some kind of handicap but it's just another BioWare staple that seems to have been removed solely to push the multiplayer experience. All and all I'd have to say the game though stunning to look at is dreadfully empty and devoid of the flare that made so many of my favorite BioWare titles memorable I would only recommend someone try this game if they are desperate for another bland multiplayer shooter and even then just sub to one month of Origin Premier just be sure to cancel the reoccurring billing so EA doesn't get a dime more of your money then 15 dollars which is about what I would say this game is worth. This game could do with a lot of streamlining, but the foundation as far as the actual Javelin gameplay is extremely solid.

For reference this is after 25 hours played & reaching level 25. This score could go up over time as small issues get resolved, but many of the "issues" like loading screens, were a non-issue for me (never had a load screen over 15 seconds on PC, most were done within 10). They will need to keep bringing the content, but this game felt significantly more *FUN* on launch, than when I tried Destiny 2.

In both cases, people spoke about weaker than usual writing and explained the game feels like a techdemo even with a decent basic game mechanism. The second such game I remember is Anthem, and the first one was Neverwinter Nights. And that nice old jewel we have found a legendary game. The similarities don't end with the focus on cooperative gameplay and initial reception. Both games were backed by a promise of long term refinement and support. And we can also say we can find a similar level of writing and story in both games.

I am sure many NWN fans already started laughing as they expect the comment. You have dull stories in Neverwinter Nights because anyone, even a total newbie can create stories in that game. Too bad in Anthem we get the same excellence in the only story the game has... straight from BioWare.

I both cases you can say: Heeey, nice graphics for its time, but a bit too repetitive. Yeah... NWN, a legendary game had this issue too. But if I want to make this comparison fair, I had to admit NWN was tile-based for a reason. Boring copy+paste in an open world game only lead to gamers feeling lost. And even in that ages old game, we can see our charactet often (not just heavy armor), have plenty of customization options (in toolset) but there we can also see the portrait of our characters.

And at that time you had an option to stop playing in the middle of the mission and continue later without losing a lot of progress.

Anthem is special because you can't save for the whole mission. And if you run out of time you might have to start the mission again next time. You have an hour in the afternoon, and an hour in the evening? That is pretty average. 3 times walking through the whole fort because you can't start at your javelin, 3 matchmaking phases, 3 times attempting to load the map on long loading screens, 2 disconnects and loading the fort and news at each and every disconnect?

You lost a few minutes. It shouldn't be a problem. Unless noone joins your "public expedition", so you have lag, disconnects while you have to solo the content designed for 4 people. So you run out of time, and at next attempt you might run out of time again. Frustration is present, progress isn't. It is hard to remember any other game that was half as bad as Anthem here.

If you expect to fly alone an offline singleplayer mode, with savegames inside missions (but out of combat situations) would solve this issue.

Hey even not showing news repeatedly, not starting in the basement after disconnect, no delays before starting the mission again would help. So there are easy to fix issues that cause a lot of problems for players. And players lose time from the time window before events that change the world and spoil many important parts of the story. So if you want to enjoy the story in a logical order without many bad spoilers and nonsense you are in tough luck.

Others might say there is nothing original in Anthem, but this kind of issue is pretty new. After all, if you remember how I have compared a few things to a Bioware classic, I have to say, even newbie module builders wouldn't create this big mess, not even with Script Wizard.

You know what are my 2 favorite things about Anthem? You can't start freeplay as a private game, you are forced to play with 3 people who might be on the other side of the map. So when you are stuck at an event that is designed for 4 people you can't invite friends because the game is already full. Best enjoyed with friends, right?

Bioware decided that if we rarely see small parts of the face of our character, but otherwise only the javelin is possible that will help immersion because of 1st person perspective. I am sure we all had immersion in previous Bioware titles. But when you can't feel attached to the character due to a broken story, technical issues and actually not seeing him/her that is a showstopper here.

Too bad this decision means that in a game where between the event loot and cosmetic updates are the goal, we can't have cosmetic updates for the character, only for the armor, which will make things far less interesting. But due to low possibile variety of loot they had to keep amount of loot pretty low, so most outlaws or dominion soldiers, or... come without any gear you can salvage from them.

Scavengers who salvage everything might not have useful salvage in their caches. Why? Because both crafting system, loot system and customization system is dumbed down and stupid. It means the game is rotten through the core.

The only good things are: EA willing to take a risk, financing coop gameplay, etc. No DLCs. So with their games as a service business model, we can expect more experimenting. So Origin Access: Premier and its effects are a plus. And that is about the end of it.

The matchmaking would often crash and the game just felt like it became way to clusterf@#$y. The only positives I have for this game are that it looks pretty, and I generally enjoyed making my suits look pretty. Besides that, the game is really braindead. It is no more repetitive than Warframe, probably the most grindy game that has ever been developed. It is also fun, but it really is the same exact thing over and over. But somehow that is not OK for Anthem. No, there is not enough content, and they are releasing more. It will probably be released on a schedule that is more in line with normal people playing the game. But the hyper hardcore 60 hour a week players are saying well there isn't enough content here. I am not sure I have seen any non PvP game have enough content to satisfy those folks. Diablo? That is also repetitive as hell but they have done interesting things and I think Anthem can learn a lot from them. Anthem has a little ways to go. They have work to do and I hope them the best. On to the gameplay: The gameplay is rather acceptable and it als makes a lot of fun to fight and fly around but the fight are reppetetive and the enemies have not much variation to them at all.

Story: Probably the worst aspect of the game, Bioware is known for their good nerrative but with each title Bioware just gets worse. I didnt saw anything from the promised Multiple choices or the story that is supposed toi center around us. "Our world, your story" : MY ASS. The Story is even worse than Andromeda. The choices you make dont alter the Story and you cant even see your own character, so why bother choosing apperance?

The World is the only plus i can give, but thena gain: Wide as a ocean, deep as a puddle.
    Bioware failed to innovate.

The entire game feels like someone came up with all the mechanics in 5 minutes. Seriously, every aspect (maybe aside from the graphics) is 10 steps backwards from what we already used to have in other looter games.

Regardless as to what people say, the cash shop is very out the way and isn't even required. Unless you purposly go to it, there's no way to interact with it. But the game IS far from perfect.
There are bugs, some infinite loading screens (Although I can name a few games that have longer and more numerous load screens) audo drop outs that require the game to be restarted, core quest objectives going missing or not being able to be interacted with and a handful of others. But the core of the game is solid, with just a few marks on the experience as noted above.
The YouTube reviews seem to be ENTIRELY one sided as if they're trying to burn EA simply for releasing a game that they wanted. An enjoyable game, with no lootboxes, rich lore, free dlc, no pay to win mechanics. I'd definitely give it a go instead of shunning it, take it with an open mind and you could be hooked it.

Granted, the game looks pretty and is fun at first, but the fun quickly drops away to repetition due to an utter lack of content variety and nothing really unique to offer. It's like BioWare completely ignored the mistakes being made by all the other looter shooter incumbents like Destiny and Warframe, though I have a hunch (without backing evidence) much of the lack of content is due to a large portion of the late development period was spent frantically removing the lootboxes you know were originally in the game until the Battlefront 2 controversy.

The overall mediocrity of the game is turned into an absolute "do not buy" thanks to the rabid fans that attack any negative viewpoints about games made by their Beloved BioWare, even if BioWare is just a brand and the people that made the renown games for that brand have all largely left long since. Even here, you'll see those fans calling criticism "hate" in order to dismiss it as invalid. The worst one I saw, however, was the fan saying they didn't really like Anthem but wanted to buy it anyway and donate it to charity just to "support" BioWare, not realizing that it literally the most crippling thing they could do to a business. This level of toxic fandom is the absolute worst part of any BioWare game and leads me to rarely recommend any of them nowadays.

Do you want a version of Anthem that's worth it? Play Warframe. It's free and the community is one of the best you'll find in the gaming space.

Despite all of the issues I still have a lot of fun playing the game. Many issues reported after the launch (15th) have been fixed (not all tough) and in my personal experience, they weren’t that gamebreaking to begin with - but I guess I was lucky not to encounter them.

The game is faaaar from perfect, but not even close to the buggy, underdeveloped, cash-graby asset flip of Fallout 76.

    Pros:
    - Fast paced and dynamic gameplay. Jumping, flying, dashing, charging, shooting - it all feels very fluid and responsive. Blasting hordes of enemies with your abilities, dodging incomming attacks by doing barrel rolls midair or flaying inches above the ground still feel fresh and give me a ton of fun, even after 90hours of game time.
    - Characters are played very well and animations in in-engine cut scenes are realistic and fluid. The actors did a great job, even if writers did not.
    - Best served with friends. Even if they're new people you've just met on a Discord you've joined a day before the launch. Ton of fun to be had, lulz, facepalm moments, mutual support and cheering for other team members. If you want to get most of the game - join a Discord server and start playing with others.
    - Up until certain point, the progression is rewarding, with first couple of masterworks or legendaries bringing shouts of joy. Unlocking higher levels of gear, abilities and components is fluid and natural (until Masterworks rank.)
    - Cosmetics can be obtained with in-game currency. Challenges (and there's a lot of them...), alliance system, daily, weekly and monthly challenges, world chests and even some monsters drop coins all the time. There really is no need (at least now) to spend a dime on "premium" currency.

    So-so:
    - Main story: Too many forced puns, predictable turns of events, short. Actors playing the characters redeem it somewhat, and the final ending of last fight caught me by surprise. So yeah, even tough it’s bland it has its moments.
    - Cosmetics: so far only 2-3 additional skins for every Javelin and some semi-interesting vinyls. We still don’t know the pricing of legendary skins, so it can turn out, that those 200k coins I’ve accumulated so far are not enough (epic skin sets: 61k, rares: 52k.)
    - Small amount of masterworks and legendary items. Some inscriptions (main mods of a weapon) need rework - they’re either meaningless or game breaking overpowered.
    - Sound: music is great, with vibe and ambience perfectly suited for the environment (my personal opinion…) Sound effect could use a little work, especially weapon effects sound hollow or flat in some cases.
Chatter in the city or soundscape in the wilds is also lacking.
    - Although the graphics are great, they are at times a far cry from what we saw in the first trailer, especially when it comes to lighting and world details.
    - Masterworks components are locked behind disproportionately high grind. Odd, given the fact, that using masterworks weapons unlocks their blueprints quickly.
    - World is nice, but lack variety and life. Exploration and world events can only last you so long, but first dozen or so hours is fun.

    Cons:
    - After 90 hours I’ve pretty much consumed all there is to the game… Cataclysms, legendary contracts, new strongholds, new loot. I know it’s been less than a week from opening access to wider audience, but if one week of hardcore gaming led me through everything there is…
    - Most legendary weapons and abilities are underwhelming at best, flat out useless at worst.
    - Affixes (additional modifiers to every item) are pulled from one table, regardless of the item type. Example: you get a masterwork weapon you wanted, but every single affix rolled affects different weapons… BW already promised to fix that in near future, but for now - no point in crafting, as it’s a crapshoot.
    - Loading times: on HDD they’re bad, on SSD they’re comparable to other big world games. Still - there’s a lot of them, especially when switching between different UIs.
    - Speaking of UI - both UI and UX are baffling at times. Example: you load into the Forge to equip your Javelin, you remember you wanted to finish couple of challenges, which require you to use a certain ability or weapon. You can’t access the Journal to look them up, you need to exit the Forge, check the required weapons and abilities, load back to Forge and pray to God Emperor of Mankind that you remember the names right…
    - Repetitive missions and world events. It’s really only a handful of scenarios, which differ only in narrative, while the main loop boils down to: fly there, shoot stuff, do something, fly there, shoot stuff, do something…

The game itself is fun, fly around and kill the enemy, every task with other players. But honestly, it is not polished well enough, Too many bugs, the unfinished game will affect the experience, it is sounprofessional.

Yet another unfinished game I'm expected to pay up-front for. Stop telling me everything will be fixed later! I bought this game today, not in 6 months or however long it'll take to "fix" it. Maybe if Bioware stopped shipping incomplete trash to beat some arbitrary publisher deadline, their reputation wouldn't be in the toilet.

Rated this a 3 because it looks nice. That's it. Game

Rated this a 3 because it looks nice. That's it. Game play consists of tired and terrible "hold this point against enemy waves!" or "bring x number of shiny things to this shiny thing!" missions over and over. Guns are all generic sounding and feeling, abilities are just there to spam out with little thought to how to effectively set up combos. Would have been nice to see some clear guidance on how the combo system is supposed to work.

The Bioware storytelling is a mere shadow of old, with lore and exposition shoehorned into the awful (slow!)walking-simulator that is the games main "hub", Ft. Tarsis. Boring characters, boring exposition, inconsequential choices in dialogue trees. But at least the game looks nice, and flying is fun, whee!

Oh, and you better believe the microtransactions are fully fleshed out, get those coins so you can upgrade your suit's appearance! It's truly like they needed a "game" to build around their money-grubbing appearance engine. 8 bucks for a javelin skin? Nope, nope, nope.

Terrible, terrible game, not good for Bioware, not even good as an indie game.

This game has truly potential to become a great game, however, the lack of What to do, and no feeling of being rewarded due to lack of good loot, Problems with connections, Loading screens which you will stay more at this than actually playing, makes this game a Stressful option to spent your weekends.

Dont recommend anyone to buy it.

Forgettable story, repetitive missions, constant technical problems, horrible and broken loot drag otherwise decent game down from what could have been 8/10.
Do not buy. But if you must, at least wait a year or two for a deep sale.

Bioware fails again, likely due to EA trying to please it's investors.

Note: I did not pay for my copy of the game. A friend whose been hyped for this bought it for me as a gift and I'm honestly considering giving him his money back so it doesn't go to waste.

The combat feedback loop is repetitive, unimaginative, and grindtastic. Weapons don't do enough damage to beefier enemies and drag out combat. Abilties are supposed to combo but there's no guide or info on how to make them do so which requires players figuring it out. If a player has to figure out how to use a mechanic of the game then the developer has failed.

Content is severely limited. There only so much you can do in Anthem and it all boils to the same thing over and over (and not in a gratifying way). To think that future content that realistically should've been included at launch will be added as "paid DLC".

Story: Lies. End of story. Go to the trailers in Metacritic and watch the "Our World, My story" trailer. It's all lies and wasn't executed at all. Notable Bioware story telling is nowhere in this game. All dialogue options boil down to answers 1 and 2 and have absolutely no impact on your story. Things that you do while playing the game have no impact on your story like the trailer says it will. This is by far the biggest travesty of Anthem and I suspect a false advertising lawsuit will be coming shortly against Bioware and EA.

Characters: First Bioware games have always been about player choice and there isn't any in Anthem besides choose a face for your player character you will never see and is entirely inconsequential. The characters you meet are unimaginative and honestly unlikable. If your going to be forced to talk to individuals to get quests and advance the story you've got to want to hear what they have to say. However there's not really any NPC that I actively want to engage with. Whats worse is the in-game/real money micro-transaction store NPCs are in game solely to try and sell players on buying cosmetics. In final, unlike other Bioware games you can't do anything with these characters besides talk to them and that's severely disappointing.

Microtransactions: This is at least where Bioware and EA didn't lie. Everything is purely cosmetic and can be purchased for real money or in game currency. While the in game currency cost is high (tens of thousands) In two days of playing I've earned 10,000 in game currency so it's not so bad. What it lacks is variety and anything of interest. It's also in poor taste that things that were unlocked by default in the VIP and Open trial weekends are now locked behind a paywall.

Bugs: So the VIP and open "demo" weekends were filled with a variety of largely game breaking bugs that have made it into regular release. Why Bioware didn't host a open or closed beta is beyond me. Many of these things could've been caught long in advance. I can only surmise this was because Bioware knew the state of the game and knew they (EA) wouldn't recover from it's premature exposure showing all it's glaring flaws and lies. So they forced a premature release bugs and incomplete resulting in poor reviews.

Ambiance: Fort Tarsis was shown during trailers to be this bustling city with lots going on. In reality it's a boring uneventful waste of time. People realized this quickly in the demo weekends being forced to walk through it at a crawl. To fix this Bioware added running but it didn't address the core problem of being a completely drab experience so they created a "launch bay" public area where everyones in their suits. Which is itself an admittance that the Fort Tarsis experience Bioware touted is simply unrepairable.

User Interface: No way to see public events in free roam so now way to gather players together. No way to communicate with other players by text. Overly complicated UI in all aspects. Destiny-like story in lore cards not active gameplay.

Animations: The biggest flaw I've seen animation wise has to be facial animations on characters. The best word that I can use to describe it is cringeworthy. They're just bad.

Honestly, can Anthem be fixed? Possibly on some of the issues (combat, content) but not story. Luckily as a multiplayer "looter-shooter" story isn't as consequential. Will they fix it in time before the player base drops it for the sad shell of a joke it is? Unlikely.

    Pros:
Unique "ironman" style game play that hasn't been done very well before.

    Cons:
Complete lack of engaging story and likable characters Bioware is known for.
    False Advertising in trailers.
    Unsatisfying combat
    Unsatisfying content
    Lack of usable User Interface
Unimaginative and Unlikable characters (both friend and foe)
Wasted and not fleshed out story
Gear isn't significant or unique and type limited.

is this worth $60? Absolutely not.

Sorry for the wall of text, didn't realize Metacritic can't format paragraphs.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
