Anthem is one hell of a decent loot-shooter that boasts some ambitious mechanics. Its massively engaging combat and its flow of movement takes center stage, with its several activities, its deep lore, and its diverse and interesting world following closely behind. That said, Anthem isn’t without fault, and BioWare will need to carefully address the game’s issues alongside its community feedback to ensure they maintain player interest.

Anthem is stunning like a firework, a technical achievement and a very fun game, but right now it is also unfinished.

Anthem may thrive. Anthem may fail. It has the bones to be something great but I am tired of saying that about so many games in this genre and five years after Destiny 1, I can’t believe we’re here yet again. Get it right the first time, because everyone is losing patience.

Despite some new ideas and a core gameplay loop that does its best to carry the experience, Anthem is ultimately a bit of a disappointment from BioWare

In comparison with even the base Destiny 2 – let alone that game expanded by all its excellent DLC – Anthem feels not so much unfinished as barely started. It contains some good ideas which it fails to develop, and some of its basic pillars, such as the insistence on fourplayer co-op, somehow convey the impression of being tacked on rather than fundamental. And even with the huge early patch, it’s still glitchy – we had to play three quarters of a 45-minute Stronghold without sound, for example, which was disconcerting.

If ever there was a game in recent memory that seemed unconsciously engineered to ferret out if someone leans toward a glass half-empty or a glass half-full disposition, it’s this one. Anthem is nothing if not a mixed bag.

I am sorry to say that Anthem has fallen short in pretty much every way. Not only do I believe that Anthem was never originally conceived to be a Live Service game and was hijacked by EA to jump on that bandwagon, but also that this game was released in an unfinished state. This has left such a sour taste in my mouth because when Anthem is working well, it can be a real fun time; flying around, getting into intense battles against humans and beasts. But it has so spectacularly failed in all other areas that I simply cannot recommend this game. And with The Division 2, a game that has experience in the Live Service sector only weeks away from launching, I feel like this Anthem will just fall on deaf ears.

I seriously think that someone paid game review sites to give it 6-7. The game is beautiful, it runs very smooth, its eons ahead of, say, division on launch day. I have put some 25 hours into this game already, unlocked 3 of 4 javelins, and I can say that I had a blast with all of them. Very different strategy with every suit, love it. Had only 1 disconnection from server, and that was after the mission, when game failed to load after mission screen. Nothing was lost, I just didn't saw summaries of that mission. The story is very good considering this is looter shooter which will get free upgrades as the game develops. I had my doubts for freeplay, but I found that too to be very fun. And that is the main thing, The game is simply very fun to play, you play some missions, then you thinker with javelin's equipment (and look), then you chat a bit with residents of fort tharsis, then you read a little about fluff (sort like mass effect stuff), then you roam a bit in freeplay collecting mats and searching for world quests, then you do some stronghold, then you ty different javelin for a bit, then you will just like to do some testing on your build so you put difficulty to normal in order to have relaxed experience, and so on... Yes, it doesn't have 100 hours of animation like mass effect, but this is not that game. Yes, there are loading screens, but I don't get the hate train here. You really cannot wait for 20 seconds (Yes, I measured it) for mission to load? and 10 seconds to turn back to fort? and, what, 3 seconds for javelin to load (by the way when youre loading out of javelin back to fort its not 10 sec, its 2-3 sec)? And for the love of god, please don't put character in center of screen, if I wanted to play destiny, I would buy that game. All in all, can't speak for PC version, but if you have xbox, this game is must buy. Expand

The load times have drastically decreased and some of the more crippling bugs that were in the demos have been addressed. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Now that the game is getting no more updates, I will review the (not) finished Anthem.

To no ones surprise, the release of this game was a mess, it was an empty open world, ridden by bugs.
The Story is boring, and almost non existent, and it honestly is a shame, because in the open world of Anthem, there is potential for a great story, and considering that this is BioWare, the people who made Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the story is a big disappointment. Not to mention, that you will have to sit through countless loading screens while playing Anthem. The Crafting System of the game sucks, because it goes beyond human logic, and requires much more items for a legendary version of a weapon than for the epic one. And since we are talking about loot, the loot in anthem still sucks, because it gives absolutely no reason to grind for better versions of the weapon, since it almost improves nothing.
The Endgame, which is supposed to give better loot and tougher enemies, is non existent, and sometimes you can beat a boss on hard in 2 minutes with a squad, and sometimes it takes 20 minutes.
The Menu also is a goddamn mess, with menus being inside of menus inside of menus, which also makes it difficult to find your friends who are also playing the game. With having no main story, it all feels lifeless and boring and is in total an uninteresting and forgettable story. Some NPCs have good lip synchronization, while others have absolutely awful. And of course, still, bugs galore.
Where Anthem shines is its Flight,Graphics and Gameplay.
Flying over the world is a glorious experience, combined with some amazing Graphics. And, besides the absolute disaster which is the loot, I have no complaints about the gameplay itself, its solid.

Well, in Overall, the game is a 3/10 alone and a 5/10 with friends. Yet the lifeless story and the boredom of it are things which are ruining the experience, whoever you are playing with. This game has potential, it always had, and if Anthem NEXT would improve on the Mistakes of Anthem, it would have been a worthy redesign which would be worth coming back to, yet sadly these are all piping dreams.
While I think BioWare should of course not screw up and focus on ME Legendary Edition and Dragon Age 4, Anthem is still unfinished and a slap to the face to everyone who paid 10$+ for this. It remains a dead game, and BioWares biggest failure to date.
