    Original Review------
All I can say is i'm enjoying playing the game, the combat is fun and the world is a nice size and looks amazing. There are so many javelin build options and different loadouts can be saved which keeps me wanting to try different play styles. So far I cant see why the game has such a low score. Yes there are things that can be improved like some of the UI and tweaks to the loot but these so far for me have been far from game breaking and things they have said they are working on to get the balance right.

i've probably got about 50 hours in so far of mostly solo play and still feel like I have allot of hours left to play. Also during that 50+ hours I've had 1 audio glitch and lost connection once which is no where near as bad as other games I own that no one moans about. Allot of bad reviews seem to be from when the game was in early access and the game has had allot of patches since then and the team seem to be hot on updates.

There have also been many suggestions from the community that they have liked and want to implement in updates, so the game has even more to look forward to. I just think its sad that most games have big day one patches and patches after release to fix issues and they dont get loads of crap about it but for some reason everyone seems to be wanting to jump on the hate train for EA and Bioware.

Just to add as well about the hate train, which is happening, I have watched allot of youtube videos which have been full of hate for things that had already been patched before their video was
even made, or things that are not true and just internet rumours stating they are fact with no sources to back it up.

Anthems potential to recover from its rough launch is hampered from Bioware's inability to listen to its community or to make good on promises made. Spending seven years in development and having almost no depth or content is a dramatic contrast to its previous releases. This is the same developer that brought us the classic series Mass Effect and Dragon Age. We have to wonder if its time for Bioware to take a step back and reevaluate its corporate philosophies and business practices. Anthem is like a wise old man with loose bowels. It might appear that he is deep in thought but in reality, he is merely crapping his pants.

We give Anthem a 5.3/10 which places it in the category of “Atrocious”.

Anthem is a frustrating experience. Because it does a lot of things wrong (basic features included), but what it does right it does so magnificently.

Personally, it is undoubtedly the most fun I've had on a video-game in a very long time. But unfortunately, giving my opinion here on whether to BUY this game or not requires a certain degree of objectivity.

BioWare, I say this as a long time fan of yours: please get your **** together. You can't expect the same treatment if your game releases in the same state half-a-decade-old games released in. You are the last to enter the market, you are supposed to be the best. And you are not.

At least not right now. Anyway.

    Pros:

    - The game is stunningly beautiful and runs (almost) smoothly. A few bugs here and there, but most were corrected by the Day 1 patch. The world looks good, the characters look good (I'm particularly fond of my Shelancer), the Javelins look awesome, be it their metallic textures or the more refined meshes. Good stuff.
    - That Gameplay. Capital G because that's how it freaking had to be done. I can't emphasise enough how much they nailed this aspect. Flying, shooting, making stuff blow up feels satisfying, and each Javelin feels unique and rewarding. You guys can be proud of this.
-Actual customization. My Javelin is unique. I know that because no sane person would associate the colors I chose. But thanks to that, I'm 100% sure it's unique. Happy to have the opportunity.
-The music. Listen to "Valor". Thank me later.

    Cons:

-The story. This is a BioWare game, and I can very clearly state that it has a story equivalent to any standard 2010s FPS. See the average summer action blockbuster? Add in one or two potentially interesting characters, and you have Anthem's campaign. Choices ? What ?Where ? Everybody's going to experience the same thing. Not bad per se, but easily the least convincing story told by the master storytellers.
-Content. Three dungeons and the same three repeatable contracts at Lvl 30. Yeah, not a lot.
-Some strange choices. No stat page ? In a stat based game? Also, why doesn't the suiting cinematic happen during loading screens ? A lot of the decisions they made are this confusing.
-Loot RNG and drop rates. So umm, either remove the random aspect of those inscriptions (which can give you a 0% bonus on a Masterwork or Legendary item at the moment) or let us have a lot of them so that we have more chance to draw something usable. Investing time isn't rewarding when all the loot you get is worse than what you already have in the endgame.

Anthem isn't a bad game. It certainly isn't as bad as Fallout 76 like the congregated score suggests. It has its (incredibly exhilirating) moments. I spent 35 hours on it since its official launch, and I think that's enough of a return of investment, espcially knowing that I will still play it for a long time. But it feels like it needed a little while longer in the oven. It looks like the devs care about this game though, which is very encouraging. That is why I believe I'll wait for the next updates and come back in a few months to update this review.

However, and more importantly, I'll borrow a sentence from my ME Andromeda review that heavily saddens me: this just isn't what we've come to expect from a BioWare game.

UPDATE: Okay, this is now ridiculous. I take it down a few notches because BioWare is seemingly incapable of taking responsibility for its f-ups. That Roadmap ? Not respected. Communication? Absent. Content? What a joke.

Updates breaking the game even more than it was before ? How did you manage that?

You had the foundations to build a decent game from where you stood, but I'm sorry, this is a failure. One of the biggest I've ever had the misfortune to witness. And it's BioWare. Sigh.

Scrap everything. Change how you work, your view of videogames and your methods.

Never thought I'd say this, but let Dragon Age 4 at least go up to Mass Effect Andromeda's quality if you really can't do better. Let this thing rot and let's never talk about it. Ever. Again.

However it is simply boring. I played with a group of friends for roughly a combined thirty hours. The story was interesting and it was a really beautiful game for sure! The game play was neat but ultimately it felt a lot like bullet soaking. There was a lot of 'variation' to abilities and guns but it ultimately just felt like a knock off version of Destiny.

You walk everywhere in between your 'quest grabbing and talking' you do a lot of 'flying' to your locations and it just felt slow. If you play with your friends then you have to also wait for them which could really burn a lot of mins if someone goes afk to get a soda or something along those lines. While that's not a fault of the game it still make things just slow and monotonous. Getting good gear is well I'm sure you've heard about how that is by now...

If you just want to kill time and play with friends then go for it I guess.

Game play is very inconsistent. How much health you have entering an activity and how much damage you do is seemingly random and is not tied to in game level or gear stats. This undermines progression as your stats are always fluctuating due to RNG. Same goes for enemy health and damage, none of it is consistent. There is no end game and the loot is laughable. There are only 57 guns total, and only 9 models for all of them. Not one gun has a unique model. Only 3 guns from every gun type are available to the player before level 30. For example, there are only 3 assault rifles till you hit level 30. You will keep getting these guns, though with different rarities (which is redundant because the gun isn't truly "rare" if it can also be obtained at the common level), until you hit level 30, then 4 more assault rifles are available. You will only be able to use 27 guns until you hit level cap (granted that you play each class, as class specific weapons are factored into the 27). Because there is no end game, there is no reason to play after hitting level 30. Additionally, weapon perk randomization means that any gun can have any perk, which makes high-end gear broken sometimes. For example, it is possible to get hip fire spread reduction perks for the sniper, even though in Anthem you can't shoot a sniper unless you are aimed. You can also get perks such as 0% recoil reduction on assault rifles and LMG's, which takes up a perk slot and has no effect.

Very little care went into this new IP.

I got the game despite the bug riddled launch because I was hyped for the roadmap features they announced on their website - turns out the road map was a lie, the "new" events that they promised were just reused missions in a rotation. Cortex Locked event turns out to be "Kill 100 beasts"... Sad. Events were a joke and the new features like guilds and mastery system were postponed indefinitely at the last possible moment.

The developer is arrogant and treats the community poorly, the game lacks any meaningful progression.

If you are thinking about getting the game wait for massive discounts or play it with Origins subscription, 1 month should be more than enough for you to get bored with the game.

With the current rate of bug fixes and new content/improvements they'll need at least a year and a half to fix the game and maybe another couple of years to add any meaningful progression and content... if EA doesn't pull the plug first.

22nd day one patch was released and it improved every thing in the game, all issues that i had encountered all fixed even with 10-15 sec load times, bioware also just released a road map for the game with all free dlc. It takes other devs longer for these things.

The game works hard with all the standard tropes to hook you emotionally but somehow (despite some decent mocap and voice acting) just falls flat and the characters don't feel more than digital puppets, the story is uninspiring (and cliched) and the world feels "samey" and uninteresting after the initial few hours.

Graphically it's pretty but honestly, in the modern era, it's not particularly special. It's basically on par with the fidelity we expect from AAA titles nowadays.

Once you get to the end-game it falls to pieces completely. The "grind" is unrewarding and positively frustrating. You will lose interest very quickly.

Keep in mind that the current review score is anchored on many good reviews in the first week by hopeful players who enjoyed the core mechanic (as did we all) but didn't realise how flat and shallow this shell of a game really is (once you finish the 10 hours of campaign). We all were optimistic that BioWare would come good and deliver the game we had seen in the pre-launch promotions and demos. It is as far from those today as it was at launch and from what we've seen from BioWare in the first crucial months of a difficult launch, it's never going to get there.

So don't be fooled by the initial optimism. If those reviewers came back now three months after lauch and re-scored, this would be in the low 30%s (if that)

Save your hard earned money for something more worthy of it... unless you just like to ride that one trip pony for hours and hours and hours and hours (I got to 138 before I finally fell off with exhaustion :>)

Way too flawed - pretty but hardly any substance. It's a shame that they chose to release this in its current state as I feel it needed a lot more polish and content. At the very least more variety would not go amiss. In addition I feel the hub as story thing just doesn't work very well for me.

In short, nice graphics, good sense of motion but poor long term gameplay and sub-par gunplay.

I paid for Origin Access to get in on the game a week early, and after the initial "Ooh, Javelins are cool!" experience faded, the game just fell apart. Bugs galore, some of them so fundamentally breaking that they felt the need to rush out a patch so fast that the patch broke as much as it fixed.

Ultra thin gameplay, no content, meaningless content, confusing gear, with a split-mentality between in-town gameplay vs. open world & missions. I played anthem for around 30 hours before I finally couldn't take any more. There is simply nothing there beyond the mindless and ultra mind numbing, excessively repetitive gameplay loop. The gameplay itself, fun for about 10 minutes, becomes a horrendous slog thereafter. I am no stranger to repetitive game loops...all games are usually built around a simple core gameplay loop. I've played other looter shooters that, while repetitive, somehow bring out an entertaining, progressive feel that you can play for hours without actually feeling the repetition. Anthem, sadly, feels like nothing but absolute, unmitigated, RAW repetition. There is nothing that really keeps it entertaining...it's just a mindless slog.

Loot, which is fundamental to a looter shooter, is about as lackluster, just downright pathetic, as I've ever seen for a GaaS game. Loot ranks and statistics hardly ever make sense, with "Legendary" rank or purple items often having stats worse than green and blue items. Statistics on each item often make little sense, sometimes even counteract each other. RNG at it's utter worst.

From a graphics standpoint. It was the glistening graphics from the original Anthem E3 video that originally hooked me. They were incredible...and the graphics combined with the promise of a real-time, seamless, evolving world with real weather, random event encounters, and loot you could pick up and use immediately (vs. the system now, where you pick up loot and don't even know what you have until the mission ends, let alone are able to use immediately), I was utterly roped in. The graphics of the actual released game are a shadow of what was demonstrated in the original video. I can only imagine that the original version of Anthem was built on Unreal Engine, as would have been appropriate, and then later switched over to EA's pathetic Frostbite engine. The graphics, pretty at a moderate distance, break down at greater distance and close up. The realistic depth of the original E3 video, the dynamic world and environment and weather, are simply not there. Everything is the same, everywhere you co, so much the same that you even get lost in the open world...there are no recognizable landmarks, no unique aspects of the world, to tell you where you are or help you navigate. As mindnumbingly boring as the gameplay.

I really wanted to like Anthem, and really wish there was more here...but ultimately the game was launched as a failure. Whether it remains a failure over time...only time will tell. I do not trust EA to do anything more than try to wring out every penny possible from the poor saps who keep playing it, while never actually resolving the fundamental issues the game has. Issues so fundamental I honestly wonder if they can be "fixed" without having to replace the entire core engine of the game.

Greatest gaming disappointment of 2019... IMO, even greater than Fallout 76 (which was indeed a disaster of roughly equal proportions, but I guess I wasn't quite as invested in Fallout 76 as I was in Anthem...)

It's a shame, because some very talented people have obviously worked very hard to develop Anthem, but this game needed at least another year of development, and a more focused core idea to build on. With other pioneering games in the genre having had such high-profile problems, it's puzzling to see BioWare and EA not only repeat those same mistakes years later, but do worse on every front.

Maybe I will take a look at the game again in a year but as of right now this patched together troubled game is really not worth the price. I want to give this a 4 but I feel that so many things in this game were poorly thought out that I can't go lighter on it simply because movement and combat is good if lacking complexity.

-1 for complete lack of endgame content and barebones character/armor customization at launch. I get most games at launch have very limited endgame content in the beginning but nothing this bad. Also there's an insane lack of skins for weapons and skins for a loot based game. There are more skins for Diablo white gear than all the skins in Anthem currently (Diablo comparison because Bioware preferred that comparison, but I expect this problem compared to other games as well).

-1 for story, story/quest implementation, limited npc/hubzone, menu functionality etc. Story is currently weak but not bad for generally play. I'm a lore guy and the lore doesn't engage me to the degree I would expect from a company who made it's name on amazing single player stories. Story/quest implementation is bad. The lack of a dialogue log of any kind makes the storyline progression so much worse than it has to be. It's a game designed for group play but you have to play single player in order to not miss dialogue and cutscenes because party members that move too quickly force you to skip dialogue that you can't replay (unless you luckily get it again in a quickplay but the same problem exists there). A log would at least help mitigate that but nope. Quests have only two main mechanics (kill, fetch) that gets old fast. Hub and npcs are not engaging enough to make me feel invested in the world. Helpful tooltips or character sheet with accurate stat explanations are nonexistent. It's very clunky to switch suits on the fly from the mission select screen; having to go into the forge each time is annoying.

The positives: the world looks beautiful if a bit empty and static compared to what was shown to us in trailers during development. Character facial animation is good. Voices are ok for some and cringy for others. Flying and combat feel good together. The foundations for a good game are there as movement and combat are important. The problem is that it's just those things and considering the difficulties of working with the Frostbite engine, who knows if and when the rest of the things the game lacks to make a good game will actually come out.

While there is some fun to be had here, Anthem is a hollow shell of what it could be. Between the severe bugs I encountered trying to go through basic game functions, to the lackluster Fort Tarsis and shoehorned story, Anthem feels more like a conglomerate of untested ideas than it does a full fledged game.

I pre-ordered Anthem and even bought a copy for my best friend because of the early E3 trailer and later "actual gameplay" trailer. Well let me tell you, those videos were outright LIES that are illegal under US law.

    The game:

    - Can't even be played at most times due to server instability issues
    - Forces you to hit a loading screen for practically everything you want to do
    - There are still constant Pilot Error Data bugs which prevent you from even getting into the one single instanced town in the game (where you start from on login)
    - The combat is a joke since combat is based on scaling (ie a lvl1 player joining their friend will do more DPS with a lvl1 gun than someone with a full MasterWork loadout)
    - Is horribly designed from the ground up
    - Lacks any true end-game and BioWare's 90-day Games As Service model puts the first event a full 3 months after launch which effectively kills the game in terms of the majority of players
    - Is a looter shooter..... WITH NO LOOT. The Devs refuse to make the loot rain despite receiving a THOROUGH post by Diablo 3's director who revamped D3's loot with 2.0
    - The crafting system is now unusable since the harvest nodes you farm to get crafting material with were nerfed into oblivion and harvesting is now a waste of time

I could go on and on about how terrible this game is, but the gist is that Anthem is a buggy mess that has far too many issues connecting to it's own servers for even a single-player instanced walk around Tarsis.

Do NOT spend your money on Anthem. And I HIGHLY recommend not buying any more BioWare or EA games ever again unless you want to be looked at as a cash cow meant to be strung along to pay for low-effort DLC, loot boxes, and low-effort cosmetics that aren't even what the players want.

Loot drops are a huge issue because even though you are flying a particular javelin, you pick up loot for the most sought after rarities (masterwork and legendary) for ALL of the javelins you own. So if you get a legendary drop (that can take upwards of two or more days to drop cause RNG is a pain) and it might not even be for the suit youre currently flying.

The only reason the drop rate issue is an issue at all is because that's literally the end game. There is no new content to unlock once you get a certain gear score, the achievements for getting all of one gear score dont seem to work (Im at masterwork and I looked and all those challenges are not completed), theres no actual in game REASON to continue playing the game once you hit 30. OTHER than to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM1 where you get all the loot, where you grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM2. Then you get to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run in the hopes of getting good enough drops to get to GM3, but at a much harder difficulty, but for seemingly the same weighted loot as in GM1. THEN you get to get into GM3 where you get to grind the same three instances and run the same few missions youve already run... to get the best gear.... for why exactly?

In short, dont buy this game for at least a year or two, or as the fanbois say on the forums/Reddit, "Give them time to fix it".

I really wanted to love this game, and I gave it a full month of 3-4 hours daily play before I wrote this review. But this game is just dead at this point. It's like the Game Designers and the Game Developers are on two different continents, meeting for maybe 10 minutes a day to flesh out what needs to be added or fixed. And then they get stoned and forget what the problems originally were.

Now don't get me wrong, the original vision was awesome, and they really nailed the feel of flying through the game like Ironman...but that uniqueness only lasts a short time before you realize the mechanics are broken, the quests and missions are just not worth the time it takes to do them, and each patch just seems to make things worse.

For the past 4 days I have logged in daily to give the game another go, and I end up logging out within about 20 minutes...just not fun anymore, and not worth my time.

So, many years of development are done, and Anthem is finally here. Was it worth the wait?....The short answer, NO!

Worse still, is that this is the game that killed the excellent Mass Effect series. For those that don't know, Mass Effect Andromeda, the fourth game in the series and first of it's own story arch, was bumped to Bioware's B team for development, so that their A team could focus on Anthem. This resulted in a lackluster ME Andromeda, that ultimately ended the ME universe before the story was even finished.
It really wasn't worth it. Essentially Bio/EA murdered one of their strongest properties, all so they could jump on the multiplayer bandwagon. They jumped, missed the step, clung to the side of that wagon for half a mile, before falling off and being mangled by the wheels!

Anthem is boring.....VERY boring. We the players were also lied to, or at least misled a lot during the pre-release sneak peak phase of development. I'm sure we all remember seeing one of the pre release videos, showing pilots chat as they mounted into their Javelin suits, before seamlessly jumping off a cliff edge and flying into battle. Later we see one player find a cool new mortar, which he immediately equips and uses to devastating effect. "woohoo" I thought. This game looks awesome! This is what Destiny should have been!

What we got....Loading screens......LOT'S of loading screens. Not only loading screens, but really LOOOOONG loading screens.

Fort Tarsis, contrary to the pre-release hype, is a very separate LITTLE world. Leaving it requires jarring loading screens that take forever. Really, Tarsis is just a glorified menu screen where you select missions which you then load into. A menu screen that requires lot's of very slow walking from A to B to access different menus. This really kills the sense of an open world that seemed promised in the earlier trailers. It's also very small and dull. Lacking in vibrant life and sound.

This brings me nicely to the open world itself (once you finally load into it) It is sadly, also fairly boring. It looks amazing to be fair to the art department. They did an amazing job, but it is limited and very "samey". Likewise it is underpopulated and the enemies feel very repetitive.

The gun-play and combat mechanics all feel quite nice, as does the movement, but ultimately it's nothing new or exciting. Sure flying around like Iron Man is great, but it doesn't make a game on it's own and the novelty wears off fast.
The weapon drops also are dull. Mostly you will find the same few guns with pointless stat variations, and contrary to the trailers, you cannot just equip something new you find. You must return to Fort Boring...sorry, Tarsis in order to find out what dropped and to make any inventory changes. Which of course means more immersion breaking LONG load times.

There are also bugs, lot's of bugs. From broken collision, to total CTD. It's all a bit of a mess. You'd expect this from a rushed title, but this game has been in development for a very long time. I could even forgive the bugs to some degree, if the game had a ton of content that took up all that development time, but it just doesn't. It all feels empty.
This leads me to believe that either the whole project was mismanaged and lazily crafted, or they stripped the base game to it's bare bones so they could sell us the actual content in DLC form later on.

Ultimately I kind of hate this game. Not only did it hammer the coffin lid down my favourite game franchise, but it's also just a bad, repetitive, grindy game.

I know that EA titles often get a bad rap, purely because people hate EA, but this really isn't the case here. I've not played many EA games or had any issues with their games that I have played. I just really genuinely dislike this game. It's the biggest gaming disappointment I've had in years. possibly ever.

I won't be following Anthem any further.

Edit. Sadly some members of the community don't seem to understand how reviews work, or are artificially inflating reviews.
Saying "this game isn't perfect" Then scoring it a perfect 10/10 doesn't make any sense. And saying things like "I personally think this game is only a 5 or 6, but others are mean, so I gave it 10" is just plain idiotic and you are admitting that you are falsifying a review!
You will also see people claiming that the game is getting bad press because people don't like EA. TRUST ME, it's because it is a very poor game. Don't be suckered in. If it weren't for idiots and fan boys, the score would be even lower.

It's always best to start on a positive note, so I'll begin by saying that I really like the setting. It's beautiful -- and, in fact, it's rooted in fairly hard science-fiction. There's no faster-than-light travel without time dilation, there are no humanlike aliens that just happen to speak English and are not vastly technologically superior to humanity, and there's little-to-no arbitrary space magic.

In Anthem, humanity has spread through the galaxy and, on at least one colony world, has come across the remains of a vanished, godlike Elder Race. The ruins and relics of these Godlike Engineering projects are capable of causing all sorts of world-shaking catastrophes and events, and are hotly contested by different human factions, and a race of aggressively hostile insects that link together to form humanlike bodies. Your mission is to protect the free human outpost from the harmful effects of the ruins and relics, assist your faction's discovery and R&D efforts, and prevent particularly powerful relics from getting into the wrong hands. It's simple, it's straightforward, it doesn't insult my intelligence too grievously, and it works well overall. (That the insects and vanished Gods are really VERY alien is a nice touch.)

Interestingly, the humans of Anthem appear far more technologically developed and sophisticated than the humans of Mass Effect, which leads me to believe that we're some thousands of years in the future. And, also, it is quite clear that the fragments of the Elder Race have accelerated human development -- which also seems to be the case for the bugs!

The setting's art, like its background story, is solid. The art direction is not as inspired as it was in Mass Effect 1, and it's not as varied as many other games are, but it's polished to a high gloss, it looks damn good, and there are flashes of brilliance.

(The visual focus here is "Modern Sci Fi" -- whereas the original Mass Effect was "1970s retro-futurism." For this reason, Anthem might seem less original -- as though you've seen it all before. You have. But, nevertheless, it's really well done, at least in my own estimation.)

And the music is quite good, too. Not as good as Mass Effect, on the whole, but a couple of the tracks -- "Ancient Mysteries" and "Outlaw Ambush" -- have a unique sound that fits the setting perfectly.

So, from an overall aesthetic point of view, I think that the game does extremely well.

The game's mechanics are fun. Bioware have nailed the jetpacks; the four combat suits all feel very different; the gunplay is not bad. If you're familiar with Mass Effect Andromeda, you'll be familiar with the gunplay here -- but it's much better in Anthem. The sniper rifles, in particular, are infinitely better in Anthem than they were in Andromeda.

And then there are the combat powers... Suffice it to say that the Storm exosuit is particularly fun to play. The elemental powers make you feel godlike -- quite literally like a Greek God -- and it offers a unique experience that I've never encountered anywhere else.

So I think that there's a really solid foundation here. And the game runs very well on my two-year-old laptop with a GTX 1060.

But there are many issues and annoyances:

    - Loading screens everywhere. So much ink has been spilled on this point that there's no need to write about it further.

    - The fact that playing with other people, in missions or freeplay, is a horrible experience. I wish that I could either (a) play with AI bots, or (b) just play solo without being penalized for it. Instead, I played all of the missions in Single Player mode, which made the game far harder, I got fewer equipment drops, and I earned less experience.

Simply put, Bioware should make single player less painful. As things stand, it really is a sort of punishment... but STILL better than playing with other people. Online co-op is an even greater punishment.

    - Mission design is laughably bad. It's almost too repetitive to be believed.

    - The user interface is nearly as bad as the mission design.

    - Equipment drops and inventory management don't really make sense. You can't figure out what items you've just picked up -- let alone equip them -- until you're back in your base and the mission is finished.

    - The crafting system is totally opaque, to say the least.

    - The entire notion that you need to play in a team doesn't mesh with the story or lore of the game! In fact, the campaign ONLY makes sense if you play in Single Player mode! This was a major annoyance.

    - The sound design in general is sub-par.

    That's it.

Ultimately, I believe that most of these annoyances can be fixed, and that the game's foundation is a very solid one. But it could have been released in a much better state, and some of the interface and mission design choices really make you wonder what the game's QA testers were doing.

Along with a microtransaction game ala Free2Play. And finally an Open world exploration game ala most MMO or Single Player Open World games. All rolled up into one ugly ball of confusion.

The story is too confounding to be figured out in the few cutscenes and interactions, it's clear it was supposed to play out over a much longer period in a Single player style like Mass Effect. It intends for you to discover things in the open world, but instead just becomes a tedious grind of collecting, killing and stumbling onto events that rarely make sense. There is nothing in the open world to cause random groups to play together, but you must be in a group to explore the open world. It's just confusing and arbitrary.

The NPC's and the city is wooden and un-animated. It feels like a museum rather than a living place. None of the NPC characters are interesting, and they deliver dialog only when required and are otherwise just there to remind you that they exist.

Bioware has insisted that the changes from the 2017 and even 2018 play examples at E3 were necessary to make the game playable. But in every instance, they took features away. Rather than under promising and over delivering they did the exact opposite. Demoing a gorgeous open world full of dynamic creatures and places you would want to see and interact with. Instead, we get a beautifully rendered, but barely living world that leaves us asking what went wrong.

Quickplay simply doesn't work. Stronghold bosses don't reward very good loot, and so most players leave before the boss, meaning 95% of the time you que a stronghold you get dropped onto a boss and miss out on all the loot and the fun of doing the actual content. Loot drop rates are wildly affected by several mysterious factors such as group item level, %luck stat on gear, and whatever loot tables are active on the given day, and it changes every week seemingly for the worst. The developers are anything but transparent when it comes to how the games systems work and more than likely it's because the developers don't know how they work. When the game doesn't crash and you're actually able to play it, the combat is very fun! When loot doesn't drop that fun starts to wear thin. When loot does finally drop and it's completely useless garbage that fun turns to rage and disappointment. The severe lack of content, unpolished interface, and cookie-cutter story are not enough to carry this game. It's a fantastic tech demo, but it is truly a terrible game.

This is another failure of Bioware, I would like to know what they were hoping for by releasing such an empty and raw product.
Andromeda was a "mistake", but with Anthem it became clear that the studio had chosen the wrong direction and it was time to change something.

I played the game since launch and after a few patches the loot has gotten better with more better equipment dropping but to be honest all the weapons and equipment are almost the same and the added stats or bonuses are pretty "meh". 15% ammo pickup, 5% repair pickup and some generic stats...compare to games like The Division, this seems laughable but I could be wrong because I haven't got any legendary gear yet even after finishing the story.

I saw alot of people complain about the loading screen but to be honest it isn't really that bad although there is quite a lot of loading screen from 10 sec to 30 sec. It is not game breaking but just seems unnecessary and still bearable.

Bugs is probably my only concern for this game because of its mechanics. Loots collected during game will only registered after completing the game and going back to the completion menu. There are times where finishing games will not go back to completion menu or in the middle of the mission you will be disconnected from the server. It is pretty frustrating seeing all the loots you got just disappear. Met with a few game breaking bugs where I just fall into an endless pit and never was able to finish the mission. Even the last mission the whole team was stuck behind a door mid way fighting the boss and we all have to quit.

Well everyone is saying Bioware makes great story and decision making game but sad to say I skipped most of the story here because it is pretty boring and nothing memorable.

All in all, I think a normal person will still enjoy this short game and don't expect the loot to be like borderland or The Division. Anthem is designed to be itself, and if play it without expecting it to be anything other than itself, you will not be disappointed but is it worth your $60? I would say yes if you have no other games to buy and no if you wanted to buy The Division 2.

A complete waste of precious time and money. The game has tons of bugs, glitches and the endgame is terrible! It fells like i'm playing a early acess or alpha game, it's a shame for BIOWARE and EA. Dont, i repeat, DONT BUY THIS GAME !

It's true that it started with a lot of problems and there still is a lot to fix but at least bio-ware is listening to the community and addressing bugs and fixes for them and that's what I like about the devs, They listen to us and are giving us constant updates to improve the game.

Complete waste of time. The one reason I even buy games from companies like Bioware is for their storyline. But this! This is the worst game I have ever played in my life. I'd rather play a noob indie game developer first game than to play Anthem.

It's sad to see what Bioware is becoming.

Good mechanics and gameplay but other than that Anthem is clearly an unfinished game at alpha stage at best. There are so many basics features missing, so many game breaking bugs (alpha stage). At the moment nothing can save this game except the game mechanics and gameplay.

The people complaining that the game is repetitive should be ignored on the grounds they clearly have no understanding of the concept of a looter based game.

The game does the important parts well, and with how masterworks and legendaries change up the gameplay it feels closer to a Diablo game than Destiny, Division or Warframe (games, I'd like to point out, which all were deeply flawed experiences on launch.)

I will say this, I don't think you should buy this game yet - definitely try it on Origin access if you're curious - but don't write the game off yet, there's still a lot of potential here, and being a looter shooter the two things the game does well are loot and shooting, so it's not as bad as the bandwagon hoppers will have you believe. I'll throw in a list of my personal pros and cons to close this off!

    The pros:
    - The expedition gameplay is fun (Fort Tarsis is trash)

    - Masterwork and Legendary loot feel special to get (I'm a Destiny fanboy but less than 10% of the exotics in that franchise feel better than a bog standard legendary, some even feel worse)

    - The world is a lot more interesting than you first give it credit for, it's easy to dismiss it as a generic rocky landscape but keep an eye on your cortex.

    - Many of the characters, even the more irritating ones actually have personality. (None of that relying on Cayde-6 to be your only three dimensional character)

    - Voice acting is a cut above all other games in this genre... Mostly ¬_¬

    - The boss fights, while bullet spongey, actually have mechanics and feel like actual bosses.

    - The game in the grandmaster difficulties is challenging, but not obnoxiously so.

    Cons:
    - It is incredibly buggy, even after the day 1 patch.

    - No in-game text chat (and the voice chat isn't particularly good.)

    - Titans are some of the least fun creatures to fight in video games, ever. Bioware decided that tedium and challenge are one and the same.

    - The expedition selection UI is horrendously archaic, and clunky.

    - Until you get to endgame and start getting masterworks, guns are kinda trash (DISCLAIMER: THIS DOES CHANGE WITH MASTERWORKS, GUNS AREN'T PERMANENTLY TRASH)

    - Fort Tarsis is so sluggish and bland, it feels like it belongs in a different game, coming out of missions into that is quite jarring.

To be honest there is some server problems now end then but the same thing with other online game as well right? All the issues and glitches have been fixed with patches and I've never seen them. People have misused the game true the glitches and then show others how to do on YouTube. That have spoiled the game a million! They have been banned and then scammed the game and produced "feel-sorry-for-me" videos. Take the punishment and shut the *** up b***s!!
I've met no other problems what so ever and just had fun man.

Now to some pros and cons:

+ Graphic is excellent but you have to have a potent PC
+ The sound really good and add to the story
    + The Music is OK
+ The story line is a little bit confusing first but give it some time just like The Elder Scroll
+ The combat system is very good
+ Easy to handle the gear
+ Very easy to "get started"
+ The environment - how cool isn't the environment
+ Choose between missions and free-play
+ Go by your self or with others which are more rewarding

    - Some server error problems now and then
    - Sometimes repetitive missions
    - Enemies AI in the beginning are to easy but not later

There is this super critical thing we need to do, oh wait let me do a contract first....
Just load into the mission and race to the next way point, if you lag behind, you'll be loaded to your group's location. This is bad for story immersion.

Voice acting and side stories, just NPC speaking, are nice.

I've played 45 hours and I'm done, there is nothing to do anymore.
I've only played for 10 days...
Sure I could gear out another jav, but what's the point...
    Grandmaster 3, hahah, no....
Free play exploration is all that's left, but why do it at all?
There is no incentive to do any/all the feats... no cool gear or something.

You can grind for the in-game currency, you don't have to buy, but there is nothing to buy anyway. I'm sitting on 140.000 coins and I haven't found anything good to spend it on.

Now the good stuff. First off the ideas that come to life and the size and beauty of the open world is exciting. No other game has ever been like it. The world feels like way Avatar would be. The javelins are painstakingly detailed and every movement in flying, sprinting, walking, and fighting looks amazing. The creatures feel and move realistic.
Fights and battles feel punchy and great. It is fluid and it keeps you on your toes, dodging, floating and flying to new cover or screaming down from the sky like a crusading angel raining firey death on an army of bugs. You are in a battle suit and when you use supers, the enemies feel it. Animations are perfect, you can really feel your armor. It is well balanced though. Get too carless and the giant alien ape will smash you into pudding like a 3000ton gorillia should.
The characters are individuals and well rounded, they dont feel generic. The battle banter feels good too, it makes you smile when your charcter makes the bad guys irritated. The conversations in Fort Tarsis are amusing and adds some flavor to the world that Bioware has built. It is a fronteir fort and it feels like one. While Fort Tarsis can feel a bit slow collecting missions there it is ridiculous to throw the game away for it.
There are a few glitches and frame rate drops here and there but time will take care of that. It is already a very, very finished game. A little bit of tweaking and Bioware will have it down pat. Since it is an online only game maybe the issue is with internet connection. After all a phone line probably just wont cut it. From my experience, if you have reliable internet it plays great. From the sheer quality of the game i could see how bad internet would ruin your day.
This is really an amazing game. IMHO it is way better than Mass Effect which everyone loved. Anthem really does blow Destiny out of the water, sorry. Anthem is super open world, you are not contantly stuck in a tiny room or on some little path. Anthem has jet pack armor that actually feels like jet pack armor. It feels really real, not cartoony. Mechanics work great and there are no pvp criers nerfing your favorite guns and armor when you need to hit that really hard boss level.
Do yourself a favor, dont listen to anyone. Be your own person, have your own opinion, and decide for youself that you like the game. Buy it and have a blast.

Staggered releases - they distributed a spreadsheet showing who can play and when. Pay for early access - a trend we hopefully will see the death of. So buggy, so very very buggy.

Loading screens take forever and you can spend more time in a loading screen than the mission you load into!

The overall experience is so poor I cannot understand how this would have been a release candidate. We've basically spent money on a game to help them test it out and fix it - real money.

I actually enjoyed Mass Effect: Andromeda, in spite of all of its shortcomings. However, no amount of goodwill that Bioware has garnered over the years makes up for the launch debacle with Anthem.

I played the VIP demo and have been playing the game since the early release for Origin premier subscribers. I trudged through the lackluster story and grindy narrative missions. I really wanted to like this game. The gameplay was fun and the controls tight and responsive. The story's ending leaves room for growth, but it was certainly not Bioware quality.

The quality of life design in the game is terrible. Loading times were unbearable until I moved it to my SSD drive. On top of that, bugs and glitches abounded. Yet. I was still willing to hope that patches would release fast enough to fix everything that was wrong.

When I reached the endgame and starting grinding for loot is when the game's disastrous design really came to light. As of this review, there is still no stats page so you can see how much damage your current build should be putting out. This would make a world of difference, as whatever shadowy algorithm calculates a javelin's damage output is so incomprehensible, one has no idea whether new loot would help or not.

Loot drop rates are abysmal. Many loot types don't even have all qualities implemented yet. Honestly, it feels like Bioware's GaaS model is to use early adopters as beta testers while they figure out how to make the game work. This may have worked 3 years ago before the market was saturated with other looter-shooters. However, today it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and a feeling of being used.

Bioware of old, how I loved you, how I miss you...

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
