Without a mic there is no way to communicate as there is no chat. Or Quickplay always puts you into the bugged missions other players are leaving from so you need to waste your time on that.
Even The Division had less bugs.
I don't know if they have a playtesting/quality management department but if they do it consits of 1 person only. For a AAA developer the amount of bugs is not acceptable. The only other good thing is i only spent 15 bucks and will stop playing when TD2 comes out.

This can be a good game, in a year or 2. But not anytime soon.

    Negatives
Bugs. There are enough bugs that I wonder what other hidden mechanics are also not working. If a simple bug like my ultimate showing as ready when it is not is present... then what other hidden mechanics are not working properly. Does that augment I have really give me +25% damage or luck really giving me that bonus? There have been a couple patches that have taken care of most of the bugs seen in early access... I expect that within a week or two of launch most of the noticeable glitches are taken care of. This is a fact of life with games that do not pay professional testers to test their games, and their reputations take an appropriate hit because of it.

And... If boss mobs do not drop anything at the end of a run... why would anyone waste the time to do that boss fight? Can put the setting on as hard as you want because you don't have to go through the boss fight at the end.

The main story is fine... but all of the side conversations that provide absolutely no value to the game are ridiculous. You have all these bubbles everywhere that don't go away if you don't watch the cut scene... but you have absolutely no reason to care about the whining that is happening where all you can do is give an npc advice on what they should do about their social hang ups....
Overall it is very fun, but they have some work to do to keep the replay-ability factor up... I feel like they wanted free roam to be an end game activity ... but with events spread out and you spend 15 minutes flying around hoping to stumble across one slowing the play down... people would probably rather just run the few strongholds over and over (Especially since you do not have to kill the boss to get the loots).

Want to enjoy the game? First, understand what it is you are buying into. Second, get a squad and play with some peeps you enjoy playing with. This is a team game, if you are just trying to blast through solo you will have a very choppy experience and things will be far less entertaining. Not to say this game isn't fun solo, as I still play solo and have a blast, but the team dynamic brings this game to where it needs to be. We are all 60+ hours deep and showing no signs of slowing. I’m amazed people have yet to figure out why their beloved developers have fallen. This is what happens when you stop hiring, promoting, and rewarding based on merit. Skill, talent, work ethic have no place in such industries anymore. Arbitrary diversity, identity politics, and SJW activism have destroyed modern videos games. The result is Anthem.

People also compare this to WarFrame... What they forget is that WarFrame was utter crap in the early days, it’s had years of development to get to where it’s at today. And to this I’ll get reply’s like “so we should just be ok with releases that aren’t complete?” Are you kidding me, a game like this if done right won’t be “complete” for a very long time. Look at games like WoW and Elders Scrolls Online... Now I know this isn’t an MMO, but it’s MMO like in the essence that it has plans for a long support frame. New content, constant updates, all that good stuff that will make the game more and more complete over time. Honestly, the game has it’s issues, but they’ve already shown that they are putting in the effort to fix them, many things fixed in the course of less than a week! To me that shows a developer who cares about making a great game, and shows great promise for the future.

    TLDR:
The game has issues, it’s not perfect, but it’s constantly getting fixes at a very fast pace. And the gameplay is fantastic. I’ve pumped 50+ hours into the game already and have loved every minute of it! Getting better gear and upping the difficulty level has kept some excitement in the moment to moment fights. I look forward to seeing how this game progresses :)

For Anthem though, the graphics look great. The iron man suits look cool, and I really appreciate the level of customization available, both play-wise and visually. The level of detail in the world is great, and the visual aesthetic for the hub city is a cool blend of Middle Eastern cyber-punk.

In my opinion, the levels of virtue signalling are at a minimum. The fact that that is something to celebrate is sad. However, the cast is incredibly diverse without trying to beat you over the head with it.

Game play wise, Anthem is grindy. It feels less so than Destiny. Really, it's more like a 3rd person shooter version of Destiny 2 without Bungie's magical shooting touch.

The story is okay. It isn't going to be winning any awards, but it is serviceable. Out of the cast there are perhaps two characters that are fun, Owen and Haluk. There's also a vendor with a weird fascination with making Javelins (the Iron Man suits) look fabulous.

Overall, I don't mind Anthem. I don't regret buying it. The micro-transactions are for cosmetic items (that to be honest do not look worth paying for) which can also be unlocked with in-game currency. I'm sure since it's EA that they will manage to screw that up in the future.

While there are bugs, I don't think I've encountered anything that isn't fixable. The dev's community engagement is much higher than may games. Luckily I haven't had any technical issues with my desktop. Sit around 65-85fps on Ultra 2k. Let's review the game and stop reviewing EA, a good chuck of these reviews don't say anything about the game and just cry about EA which makes me wonder the validity or lack of purchase before reviewing.

    Pros:
    1. Combat feels and plays great
    2. Teaming up with other players and working out gear combos makes this game have endless combos
    3. This isn't a quick to the top game, very few players can even finish content on GM2
    4. An active Dev team with open communication, this is very rare
    5. No one is holding your hand or showing you how to build your Loadout, you will need to test things
    6. GM2-3 are difficult, let's keep it that way
    7. Huge verity of stats and bonuses on gear, one good roll on an item can completely change your build, this give a good reason to re-roll (craft Masterwork) gear for new stats
    Improvements and Suggestions
    1. Add a Mini-map, it's easy to get turned around and blocking the screen with a map isn't helpful
    2. Add a Shooting Rang or Test Dummy area, allow for testing builds outside of joining groups or going through multiple loading screens to see if gear works
    3. Add more Strongholds
    4. Add the ability to view equipped gear outside the Forge
    5. Add a Character stats screen, showing totals of perks and bonus you get from your gear along with stat definitions
    6. Add in-game chat with the ability to link items for others to view

Overall the game has been awesome, a few tweaks will really polish this game up. If you are looking for instant gear and no grind I would strongly avoid this game, if you are a fan of POE, D3 and other gear grinders I would bet you would really enjoy this game. With the current 90 day roadmap that was released by Bioware I feel this game will evolve quickly and many issues that are being seen now will be gone. Final note, the story is short but left open ended giving me the hopes of new content. Time will tell, for now I am sold and will continue to play.

Why can't we just take a game at face value instead of playing it with the expectations built up before release? 3.9? This is a criminal user score for a game that has barely come out. Every online game today has issues when released so don't act surprised when this game does to. Sometimes I honestly believe that they should screen these reviews so people who just come here to vent their frustrations don't have an opportunity to negatively impact a game. I see a lot of people reviewing from their emotions rather than from an unbiased objective viewpoint. I just hope these reviews don't negatively impact a person's decision to buy this game. The game has a lot of issues and flaws. It seems unfinished and disjointed. The story for example is mediocre at best, the characters are forgettable, the dialog is excruciatingly dull and boring. This does not feel like a Bioware game at all. It is extremely low on content, all the missions are exactly the same, and almost nothing is explained on this game.
I haven't even finished the story yet and I am bored. The only thing that is good in my opinion is the way the game looks. Everything else is mediocre or worse. The AI is the worst in my opinion - it is braindead. All they do is just run towards you or stay in one spot waiting to be shot...with their backs towards you.
I was very excited to play the game and it has been ta huge letdown. I cannot recommend buying this game as it is...it feels half way done.
I am not sure how it is possible that this game has been in development for 6 years. There is absolutely nothing of substance on it. Everything seems to be started and half way abandoned to start something else. Nothing really makes much sense, from the gaming mechanics, to combat, to story and beyond....it looks like 3-4 different studios developed different games and tried to slap them together.
The loading screens are terribly annoying and are everywhere. The game is a letdown and even the loot sucks and this is supposed to be a looter shooter. The grind is terribly boring and there are only 3 strongholds, one of which was in the demo, and the other is the end of the game. The difficulty is also messed up, rising it only gives the enemies more HP which makes them bullet spounges x1000. It is the laziest way to introduce difficulty. It is just a bad game at the moment. I am not sure that Bioware can save it- the game is deeply flawed and although has a solid base, the rest is terrible.

There are issues of course, some bugs are still around and there's a certain number of things that I feel need to be implemented, like the ability to communicate with players besides voice chat, like send them a message or something. There's also the lack of being able to place waypoints on the map. Like I said the game is beautiful, but man, you can really get turned around and lost when you're on your way to a specific place.

Finally, if you don't like looter shooters don't get this game, you probably won't enjoy it despite the other things it has going for it, the nature of this style of game will get to you. Otherwise, I can fully recommend this game, great fun, you feel powerful, synergy with other players is great fun and works well once you know how to do it.

it is presented good, the world looks amazing, the suits look badass, the sound thats captured is good too, when youre the collossus the footfalls of your walking tank shows that its just that, a bloody tank.
the gunplay is simple, as stated simlar to mass effect 3 but with the addition of a jetpack, which is awesome, the enemies can be tough, when you think about it who in their right mind would be able to take on an outpost that has defenses and such solo? sure with gear its easier but the game is a bit more difficult solo which is alright as it wants to be played like a coop shooter.
the customization you can do is awesome, i applaud bioware on what they did as to me it almost feels like your customizing a car from saints row 2, i do like the customization
the content, this is were everyone could have an issue, i know i do.
the story seems kinda goofy, i understand they heard a lot of complaints about destiny 2 and warframe so they tried to lay it out for everyone plainly, which again is understood but im sure they couldve come up with a better way to show the story, or have it play out but thats me.
sure they dont have a whole butt load of weapons or javelins yet but as stated in the beginning, neither did warframe, i think before we write this off solely because its EA, we should give bioware a chance to put some effort into it, the game has potential, and i see that becuase i can see where they are trying to make it accesible to everyone, but yes they do need more content, more of everything essentialy but i have faith in them
the freeplay mode i think i can best describe as a squad going out on patrol, the world events that happen are cool concept as you could just be flying around collecting whatever or exporing and a random attack or whatever will happen, yes there are only so many things that do happen, like 4 different world events or something i dont know im guessing here, but has any game really made you feel like your out of the safety of the city walls to make sure nothing gets close enough to destroy it? i really do feel like me and my squad, be it friends or randoms, are tasked with patrolling the area essentially and i do admit it does feel kinda cool.
again i am saying i am NOT a fanboy, just a guy that has played the game and enjoys it for what it is, it does need a lot of work yes, but we have to give them a chance, they choice comes down to the person buying it, if it appeals to you check it out, in time im sure it can be a really fun game with raids even happening that needs not just a squad of 4, but maybe a unit of 8 javelins to win

And if one long wait is not enough then fear not because EA has you covered with multiple loading screens each one getting longer than the last! You'll be in loading simulator heaven.

It's a real shame because while the game does look beautiful its just too buggy and what made EA release this in its current state only a week before quietly pushing out far superior Apex Legends is anybodys guess but to be a manager in EA you don't have to be intelligent, just greedy!

This is certainly not a Bioware game we know and it shows because the story is awful but then the world is littered with lore. The problem is you will spend more time reading that lore than playing the game and the cutscenes tell you very little. This is the same dev that made Andromeda right? And that was BioWare Montreal which is a very small division. Well that shows.

So on top of a terrible launch they have the audacity to charge full price for this heap of junk. No one can deny it looks great but haven't we learned yet that graphics just do not make a game if it doesn't have a strong element of gameplay and that urge to want to return and EA completely missed the target yet again.

Maybe it will get better, maybe it won't but one things for sure. It's just not ready yet.

The reason this did not get a 1 from me is because you can see they really made an effort on the graphics side so they get points for that.

The narrative is a botched attempt at a traditional Bioware story, shoved inside a looter shooter. It fails dramatically pretty much immediately after the first cutscene. It's not that the voice acting is bad - because it really isn't - but the presentation of it means you don't care what is happening, ever.

This isn't helped by banal environments, which consists of forest ruin after forest ruin, non-stop, over and over again, interrupted by massive loading times. The game looks beautiful, but is boring to look at after an hour or so - that seems like a contradiction, but there's only so long you can look at the same pretty picture before you want to look at something different. Anthem provides no visual diversity.

As everyone suspected before launch, this is Destiny Lite. The core combat is the familiar bullet-sponge looter shooter the market is now flooded with, but Anthem is a terrible example of it because, again, the gameplay loop lacks diversity. You do the same thing, over and over again, and when the flight mechanics stop being fun, the whole game stops being fun.

I know people will say there's 'potential' here, but honestly this is a full price, AAA game that should be a lot better than this on release. We shouldn't be paying to be glorified Beta testers for DLC down the line.

Ultimately, Anthem feels like the game Bioware had to make rather than the one they wanted to make. The lack of soul in this title is resoundingly obvious.

Anthem is a poor try at Looter-shooter genre by BioWare, a studio loved by so many players back in 2008-2012 and now desperately trying to survive and not end up being closed by EA. And unfortunately, they failed.

Anthem is broken, broken in so many ways it hurts to even talk about: gunplay is weak and unenjoyable, character progression is lacking and boring, enemies are stupid and too easy, loot is also boring and there is not even that much to loot, the content just doesn't exist, no random events, no quests (those to progress the main story don't count, as they are basically there to prolong the campaign).

Everything that make Looter-shooter A Looter-shooter is fundamentally broken and lacking in every way possible, and even something that you'd think BioWare will actually do better, the story and characters are also terrible, plot is a typical B-movie about evil dude who wants to do evil things, characters are there to annoy you, they don't progress the plot, they don't give you any missions, they talk about nonsense and do nothing apart from that.

And even when you think that things couldn't go any worse than they already are, you realize that more than 90% of the time you spent on the game, consists of LOADING SCREENS. I haven't seen any triple-A game so buggy and poorly optimized than this one (except for Mass Effect: Andromeda, of course. What a joke you are, BioWare).

Just for you to understand, to enter the game you should suffer through the first loading screen, then you spawn in the Main Hub where you can talk to vendors and go enter your Javelin to actually start playing, which requires another loading screen, then you choose your weapons and mods and go to mission list which requires ANOTHER loading screen, and after that you choose a mission and the game sends you TO ANOTHER LOADING SCREEN, and only after that you can actually start shooting bad guys. When you finished you quit the mission and BOOM, another loading screen to show you what you've earned, and OH BOY ANOTHER LOADING SCREEN TO LOAD THE MAIN HUB AGAIN. And to play the game you need to repeat that EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
And I'm not even mentioning constant crashes and disconnects from your friends that BioWare didn't fix since closed "VIP" beta.

I spent 30 hours in this game, I don't know how but I made it through this horrible experience and now I can be 100% sure to say, that BioWare is doomed. You can bet that after a while they will abandon this game, like they did with ME:A, and shortly after EA will close them. And this really does hurt me, because I loved BioWare, I loved all Mass Effects and all Dragon Ages (even the second one, yep) prior to 2012. And now we can see how BioWare is slowly and painfully dying.

    This is so sad.
    It truly is.

Once again there are so many people who were ready to jump onto BioWare's next game and rip it to shreds without actually having played it, or knowing much about it.

I will start by saying yes there are issues like bugs, and for many people there are annoying loading times, especially those still using old computers, but BioWare already issued a day 1 patch that began to address many of these issues, and appear to be moving very quickly in response to criticism about the state of the game and any gamer knows these kinds of things are always present at the launch of new games, and are, in most cases, addressed pretty fast so my review will mostly be about the gameplay, story, and core game itself.

First I will start with where Anthem shines,

Combat: The combat is my favorite part of Anthem, it's fast paced, action combat that works fluidly with the flight mechanics, performing combos, dodging things flying at you in the air (or ground and leaping up like Ironman) is extremely fun and well designed. When I first tested the game i was nervous about these mechanics because they were a fair bit more awkward than they are now.

Flight: This is what I was most nervous about with Anthem because when I tested the game earlier on I found the flight mechanics to be nothing short of a nightmare as they were clunky, awkward, and I was literally running into mountains and trees over and over. However, BioWare did an excellent job addressing the flight mechanics between then and launch, as I do not have that problem any longer and flying around the game has been a great deal of fun, again it works fluidly with combat, and has become a much more natural feeling mechanic.

Story: The story is surprisingly good, I won't get too deep into this because I don't want to spoil anything, but I was not hyped for this game (as I really love story driven games, like other BioWare games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, but also other narrative driven games like the Witcher series, etc) and I did not expect the story for this game to be as good as it turned out to be, in fact if you are a fan of story driven games I think Anthem is worth buying for that alone.

Graphics: Stunning. Literally nothing else to say about them, this game is gorgeous.

Fort Tarsis: This is your personal city in the game, and it changes as you progress through the game, I find the potential in this to be exciting as I love games where the world changes based on what I do in the game.

Customization: This is extremely important to me in online games, and they do not disappoint in Anthem. Customization for your suit is extremely extensive, you can choose literally every piece (torso, hands, legs, helmet, etc) and they provide an extensive dye system where you can even create your own custom colors, as well as different designs (they call them vinyl's) that you can stick onto your suit, you can choose the type of materials you want your suit to be made from (plastic, leather, metal, cloth, with varying texture options as well as wear and tear, etc) I could go on, but it's a lot and I think you would have a great deal of fun with this.

Shop: The cosmetics shop where you can buy emotes, skins, etc is really well done as there are literally NO pay to win options, and you can get everything in the shop for currency you earn in game, and that currency is not hard or grindy to come by so you don't need to spend any money here unless you don't feel like doing missions to get something you really want from there, if you don't have enough coin.

The negative aspects of the game (not including bugs as I said before, because virtually every new game has them) are things like the UI.

User Interface: The UI/User Experience for this game is a bit better than it was during testing, but still pretty bad. This is one of those issues that I hope gets addressed more extensively ASAP. It's not so bad that it doesn't function properly, but it's not very intuitive, there's not even a real proper character sheet unless you go to the Forge to alter/upgrade your suits, and the expedition/mission menu is awkward and clunky. This is my biggest complaint because it is honestly annoying at times, especially when you've spent the last 20 minutes having conversations with all the characters in Fort Tarsis and you want to just jump back into doing missions and playing the game. Having to run back to the forge to be sure you're ready can be kind of annoying.

There are other things I may revisit this review for later but I have to stop procrastinating and get ready for work now. Overall, the game is very fun, well designed, and the things that aren't can and should be addressed so I'm not overly worried about them. I give the game an 8/10 because I genuinely have been enjoying it far much more than I thought I would (I was not hyped for this game much at all) and I have been pleasantly surprised with how good the game turned out to actually be.

Story and Atmosphere is awesome, this is finally a different type of game than the tired old BioWare RPG formula that i played over and over from KOTOR to Andromeda.
It will need a lot more content added to keep me playing post launch and paying for microtransactions but i think this is a solid foundation for a new Franchise.

I am not burned out on looter shooters as i didn't play Desitny or Division so maybe that is why i still enjoy this.
The Loot and progression is a bit linear, but that is fine, i'm not here for the grind but for the gameplay and atmosphere, if i get bored and move on after 50 hours that is fine as well, i do not look for long term relationships with my videogames, EA want's to turn everything into a "live service" so you keep paying for microtransactions, i as the customer do not care about that stuff, if i get a good amount of hours of fun for my 60€ then i'm happy with that.

I'm sure in a few patches most of the technical complaints won't be issues anymore.
If the content is for you or not is subjective, i got FUN and that is all i care about.

The EA BAD circlejerkers are out in force to destroy this one which is sad, maybe EA deserves this, BioWare sure doesn't.

But if anybody wants to tell me that they worked 6 years on this, no, just no. This has at best 2 years of active development in it and it clearly feels rushed, a year more development would have helped a lot, maybe they were doing concept art and world building 6 years ago but the current version of the Frostbite Engine isn't even old enough for that statement to make any sense.

I played the main campaign well before max level; and even the grind to get from there to level 30 was a bit mind-numbing. The masterwork items are making it slightly interesting once you reach max...but that's about it. I won't spoil the ending to the story-line here, but what was the point of the little after-bit that doesn't go anywhere? It made me feel like I had reached the halfway point of the game, and then it stopped.

I really wanted this game to be awesome, and it's just not. I'll probably continue to play it a bit longer, or until one of the other big games of 2019 comes out, but I'm sad that this one will likely sit on the shelf until they expand/improve it substantially.

I looked, probably, all the available reviews on Youtube, read all the possible reviews, even played in the demo version, but still could not make a definite conclusion for myself. Now, as you can see, the conclusion is still made - I bought the game and without hiding, I can honestly say: I liked it! No, I didn’t just like it, I'm delighted! I do not agree with any statement about the fact that the game is not so built up dialogues and players are bored to walk and talk with NPCs that do not give you any third-party tasks.Instead of bombing about this, I walked around the fort of Tarsis and studied, looked, admired, listened to the dialogues that reveal to us the ENT of this game. I delivered it! No, I am not a fan of Bioware, and in Mass effect I played only the first part. The game itself is, of course, not only the stories of "local residents", but also a shooter in the open world. Let's get to the point. I was not knocked out any task in this game. Do you know why? Because I did not have high expectations from the game. A few years ago I was waiting for the Division. And that she disappointed me, upset me, I played it on the strength of 10 hours put the disc on the shelf and since then he has been there. I don’t want to write now about what everyone already knows about - costumes, javelins, abilities - this is sucked up in every video, in every article. Everything has been studied and duplicated, personally I have no desire. In the end, I can only say that this grindil game in the open world, which I liked, is the essence, the concept, the open world itself, I want to dive all over again and again. I myself have not encountered optimization problems, although the computer is not with top-end hardware. Once I lost the sound, there were a couple of delays, but then you can sin on my Internet connection sometimes gives tricks. What saddens a lot of players is poor optimization, again, which I have not encountered. Maybe I was lucky, I do not know. Secondly, in my opinion in this game there must be some kind of PVP component. In my opinion, this would add to the game rating as a minimum. That is, in the end, to achieve the maximum level, players could not only farm strongest, but also entertain themselves with battles against each other. There is no information that this will be, but as for me the idea is very personal. In the end - my score is 10 out of 10, in a sign that the game is now undeservedly heytyat and merged due to the fact that it can be and will be finalized, corrected, finished. Real sensations on 9 out of 10. Thank you! Expand

The game runs great on my i7 7700HQ and 1070, the long loading screens do no take more than 15seconds on an ssd and the game is fun as hell. Its a looter shooter, if you expect a single player, story focused game, this is not the game for you.

The characters are all annoying and you have to go spend 20-30 minutes talking to people after every mission unless you skip all the dialog which i started doing pretty quickly because the characters are so unlikable and the story is so generic and boring.

The mission structure is unbearably repetitive and if you're lucky the mission will bug and you'll get to do it all over again. (Which has happened to me at least 6 times in my 24 hours playing it) The game will seem fun for the first couple of hours but trust me this a game that is NOT worth your time. And no i'm not going to be one of those people that say "well maybe it will be good when they patch it and update it" yeah maybe it will be but people seriously need to stop letting developers/publishers get away with this. 10 years ago this was NOT a thing because if the game wasn't finished it just didn't sell.

Its been quite a while since i've played a game like this that i wanted to like (because the game looks really good running on ultra settings on my pc) but i can't, the gun play doesn't feel great, the abilities of the javelin of your choosing are more fun to use but get old quickly. Oh and i almost forgot to mention the incredibly bad load times and there are loading screens galore in this game. Even after the patch that made it better it still takes too long (on my solid state drive). I still haven't finished the story yet but i hear that the end game content is virtually non-existent.

I fully expect Bioware to be closed soon by EA after this disaster.

Gameplay feels great, story & lore are good for a looter-shooter, and despite some things needing fixing/adjustment i can honestly say that after 50-60 hours in game that I am having a blast and it doesn't look like I'll be running out of things to enjoy any time soon.

The combat system reminds me Mass Effect Andromeda too, it's not so unique. It has been improved but not so much as they want you to believe.

The multiplayer doesn't let me enjoy the world alone, as a lot of battles are tedious as hell if I am playing alone. So I have to play with other people, that have their own pace to play, different from mine. It's kinda cool when we manage to make combos, but combos are themselves nothing special, they are the same as Mass Effect: First, you must change the state of the enemy (maybe freezing him) and then strike him...

The main villain is nothing special either. Bland, easy to predict... it's not the illusive man, for example. It resembles more... I don't know, Bowser with good talking.

I don't know, the game is not awful but... it's really lacking. I honestly don't think that anyone should spend its full price. It's a shadow compared to Mass Effect 2 or some of the Dragon Age games.

    Not recommended right now.

Macrotransactions are everywhere and reallly expensive.
Ill have to use the same character and skin for the whole game because each one costs 20eu. Even thought I've payed the game 60eu. EA just skips spitting **** in the face of players.

Also, maybe "more importantly", the game is unplayable. I have a more than capable rig and internet connection, and yet the game crashes randomly and keeps disconnecting from the network. I really like how they say its a problem on 'my end'. Best part: it also happens when I play solo. Best appart again: it happens WHILE im watching a cutscene, SOLO. Best part again, when that happens, the game sends you back to the start menu, AFTER a loading screen. Then youre on for 2 more loading screens.

Ive had 11 disconnections and more than 30 rubber banding situations (3 caused me to die, thus reload) IN 2 HOURS of gameplay! Ping of 6, download of 20m/s. 1 hour being solo.

This game isnt open world. It has horrendous loading screens, even on an ssd. Hell, the UI to customize a Javelin has a loading screen of 20s! (Count +30s when youll exit the UI).

Anthem is, again, very mediocre game from studio that i was once considered as one of my favourites. Don't know what changed inside the studio. What i know, is that Anthem is very repetitive, shallow, boring to death online experience that does much worse something that was already done better by other studios. And i actually dont mind repetitivness! This game is a shell with many artificial fillers, go-there quests, and fetch quests inside it, instead of any trace of actual content. Can they fix it? Probably... wil they fix it? who knows! For now there is very subjective 4/10 from me.

The most talked about issue is EA's games as a service model, which is a disgrace. The shady launch times do also not help when the game isn't even up to a standard other companies would consider releasing it at. This games as a service and lack of quality is linked and will be seen in the way that despite launching poorly, EA will draw you back to the game after you're done with it by advertising new content that should've been in the base game, which, is extremely short. In addition to the problems with the lack of content, much of it in the game is locked behind microtransactions.

Finally, as mentioned before, the quality in general is insufficient, which extends beyond the bugs. The areas in the game feel as if they were designed for more and long to have something more than a bulletsoaker or 2 for every 5 minutes youve flown around (alright the flying is pretty cool). In addition the team at Bioware clearly haven't put much effort into animation which can be seen in the way that the movements loop and often don't make a lot of sense (mostly talking about NPCs here).

In conclusion, Anthem is a great idea, but has been executed terribly.

    3. Quick Play is totally broken. I tied it multiple times and each time it throws me in mission which is bugged therefore it can't be completed and thus someone left the group. And here you are! Have fun joining the broken mission. Moreover often when you join next thing happening you are teleported... to a point which is outside bugged objective... and you are teleported... to a point outside objective... You get the idea.
    4. Freeplay desing is aweful: no markers in freeplay, you don't know where you died last time, no notifications about events, so you are always alone, when you are downed you are respawned far away from that point.
    5. Down state is annoying as **** The ONLY action you can do is Alt-f4. I'm not kidding, other things are not working: map is disabled, player markers are disabled, you can't leave mission, etc.
    6. Glitches, bugs and lags. In a game where you should be an agile javelin, there are too many cases when enemy hits you even if you dodged away.. It just didn't register. Or animation bugged when you was shot and you was not notified that smth is coming.

I don't understand what Bioware did for six years. The game looks good only if you think of it as a demo game. When you really want to play you must do the same thing again and again and again and don't make me start with the story. What happened to the KOTOR writers? The writers from ME? Probably they left. This game is not made by Bioware, it's made by EA named BW. And yeah, I didn't sayI don't understand what Bioware did for six years. The game looks good only if you think of it as a demo game. If you always wanted to get a Mass Effect game, minus a good story, minus interesting characters, minus the feeling you're actually having any meaningful impact on the Universe, then Anthem is the game you're been waiting for. Plus staring at LOADING screens. ENJOY ...or pray somebody makes a decent Space Opera sometime again.

A lot of games are hard to review - Anthem isn't one of them. It is easy to identify the strengths it has - excellent graphical fidelity and wonderful flight mechanics - and even easier to identify the many, many flaws.

I was at one point incredibly hyped for this game. I have a deep love of Destiny, and Warframe, and was more than willing to give BioWare once one of my favorite devs a chance in this genre I hold so dear. But after playing the closed Alpha, and then the VIP and open demos.. And finally the game, when it became available on the 15th for me to play, my hype quickly faded. But after playing the closed Alpha, and then the VIP and open demos.. And finally the game, when it became available on the 15th for me to play, my hype quickly faded. Lacking characters, boring hub, uninteresting gun-play, and combat that just grew stale after a few hours. The game was gorgeous, when I was stuck in loading screens for up to 5 or so minutes (Mind you, the game was installed on my SSD) and when it wasn't experiencing horrendous pop-ins. But beyond that, and the fun flight mechanic, it honestly was just... Lacking. I'd been waiting so long for this game, hoping that BioWare would retain that old BioWare magic and charm, and that Andromeda wasn't a sign of what was to come.. But, honestly I'm left disappointed, only grateful that I only had to pay 15 dollars to play the game, thanks to Origin Premier. Admittedly I haven't finished the campaign, I couldn't. I just couldn't hold interest in it.. It just wasn't an interesting story, and the characters within this world are just.. Range from irritating, to lifeless, or simply uninteresting, which is sad given how good the VA work actually is. What makes things worse is that from what I've seen, the diversity of areas for the missions beyond what I've played isn't any different than the zones and types of missions I've done myself. The areas while good looking, are all.. Similar. There is a massive lack of Diversity, and this carries into the end game. 3 Strongholds, one of which is the final mission of the story, Daily missions, and Free Roam world events make up the whole of your end game.. That is.. Just not enough, not fun. Especially when many of us have already played one of those strong holds to death from the Demo. I can only hope that this game improves in the future, and that it does at least one thing that Destiny does, and manages to bring itself back with some sort of well received, and wonderful update or content drop, much to the vein of Destiny's Taken king, or Destiny 2's Forsaken. Hopefully one day in the near future I can come back, erase this review, and give the game a much better one in it's place. Expand

I am a victim of a hype: I was looking for not so boring game, preferably single player (last ones I liked were Doom, Battlefront 2 single user campaigns, Battlefield 1 single user campaigns — I am not playing their multiplayer versions as I prefer War Thunder to waste my time online).

So, I was seeing these “best 2018 PC games” and spotted Anthem as it was something new for me: jet packs, exoskeletons – looked intriguing. Also, any complicated equipment means restrictions in the real life and this means tactics or at least different skills for different kind of equipment . I love tactics, so I was looking for the game and even made a pre-order.

My expectations were high so the reality was underwhelming: this equipment hardly needs any kind of skills. And game creators obviously believe grinding is fun. It is not for me.

    Refunded.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
