That's just a testament to how bad this game sucks because I've never heard of any other game ever doing something like this.

End game is also very limited. You'll experience all of it in a few hours. So if you are hoping for a good end game experience, I'm sorry but you will not get that.

Most of the hate is coming from people expecting the game to be a failure and will not allow anytime for the game to adjust. For example, the time from VIP demo (beta) and public demo (beta) many great improvements were done. Within first week of VIP release hot fixes and patches to address issues and concerns has already been performed (Quest requirement changes and the loading screen times have been reduced).

Any game that is online will have bugs and broken aspects (Black Ops had the gliding glitch that allows players to jump and glide to get speed faster), Grand theft auto 5 has hackers in multiplayer that destroyed economy, and many many more examples.

The major thing that is different is the expectation for the game is to fail and thus people already write it off. Give the game a chance to actually release to the public before people write it off... let the game play for a month or two before its declared dead)

Then as the story progressed I found myself caring about the characters more and more specifically Faye and Haluk. Overall I think its a great story has its highs and lows as any story does but overall its pretty great. Classic bad guy wants to gain ultimate power and we have to stop him kind of thing least for now since this is going to be an ever growing story. You will need to keep in mind that this is not a single player RPG while playing this though so dont expect your actions to have an impact on this since its a shared world between all players. Though your side conversations with npcs in Fort Tarsis will have different outcomes from other players but im not sure if you will see it affect the story. There are loading screens but bioware has mentioned multiple times that they are working on shortening them. Dont listen to the people complaining about the tombs mission as bioware made it so that everything required for the mission is tracked from level 3 and onward. They have listened to our feedback from the early access and have implemented a fair bit of it that they could in a short time. Some of the other things we have requested and reported as an issue will take a longer time to fix. Taking all of this into consideration I think the game is worth the money for the enjoyment I have gotten out of it. Ive put around 70 hours between the early access and the demo and the game is still very enjoyable. Expand

The developers of Anthem created a visually stunning world. However, the positives for the game end there. The game was released unfinished in that it lacks a great story, meaningful end game content, and a large array of post-game challenges. Additionally, the intended grind of the game is made more unbearable by the incredibly slow loading screens.

I like the NPCs and the investment Bioware made to capture the actors' facial expressions looks really, really great! Every time I visit Fort Tharsis, I notice new stuff or new NPCs and conversations. I've been taking my time to explore the environments and looking studying the detail put into the models of the local species. With all of the events planned over the rest of the year, I'm looking forward to what's next and I haven't even gotten to the end game yet. I understand why some people are disappointed especially if the game runs poorly for them, but I'm having a blast. I want Bioware and Anthem to do well and I believe that it will only get better from here. I would love to see them expand the biomes and roll out more, richer story arcs. Expand

The game isn't finished! They have big plans to continue to add content, improve gameplay, and are actually responding exactly how you'd want a team committed to their project to respond!

There's planned and already developed content and they are listening to the customer base to make quality of life improvements. 15-30 hrs of content will likely become 40-50 as new stuff is released.

This mindset of having to have a fully fleshed out game on release is archaic and problematic for games like this. If the game is fun and playable, why not start playing while it develops even further?

The largest crowd funded game (Star Citizen) has raised hundreds of millions and doesn't have a released product yet. Its BETA is playable, and I've happily committed $ there too, but I have happily paid for the game knowing what the game COULD become with my support.
Athena isn't any different. It's a game that they want to grow and continue to evolve. Invest now and support it's development. Enjoy a fun game that's just going to get better.

All these haters just want to be seen as important nay sayers and are simply restating what each other say... there's no creativity or imagination to their complaints. They're dry and repetitive. Now if only they can evolve with the times. Fully developed games were important to have fleshed out using old technologies like floppy drives.

Most of the best games of our day continued to evolve. World of Warcraft, Destiny, Borderlands... the attention the game was given post release in each of those cases was far more important than the initial release.
I'm all but hoping this game has the opportunity to become what it should become before the haters just looking spread salt have their way.

The mechanics are refreshing, with the added mobility of flight that can make the difference between walking away a champion, or lying in a pool of your own blood. The gun play is top notch, by far the best feeling is emptying a clip into an enemy. And there is always that moment of suspense when you hear a slight ding, letting you know you just got loot, and your dying to see what it is. The world as well, utterly amazing, You could easily just fly (Yes fly) around and find new things for hours, I would know as I have almost 50 hours at this point invested into the game, although I would say 2-3 hours of that is purely in customization. The color options and options available are amazing, and the premium items are so easily earned through in game grinding that you will never have to spend a cent more unless you cannot be bothered spending 2-3 hours grinding out the coin.

The story is a little generic right now, and the contracts can seem a bit repetitive, and after a little bit you may want a break, and the load screens can be....painful at times (If you are on PC load it onto an SSD, will cut the load time down substantially)

If you want a game that is like hey day Destiny, or the Division, then this is not for you. If your after a game that looks to be in a much better starting spot then the two, with a greater possibility to expand due to how the lore and world is set up, then this will be by far the best option out there, just dont go in expecting to find the diamond without allowing some polishing to happen first.

But there is one HUGE problem and it is ea, when those %#$% who are responsible for decisions will stop ruing game after game and will learn that greed and dumb decisions don't lead to success.

There is a long list of problems:
    -A rush release which includes:
    -"Dead" hub.
-Cheesy and horrible dialogs made for political correctness.
    -A terribly average campaign
    -Boring grinding
-And boring missions often without sens.
-Load screens and load screens again
-If you die, you can't respawn, and you have wait until someone reviews you
    -lack of diversity of surroundings.
-Awful fast endgame and poor difficulty changes
    -Poor loot system.
    -and go on...

It is not a game made by BioWare. It is a game made by greedy ea. Which words you translate as a: "I like money!" every time when they talk about game experience, diversity etc. It is all about the maximum profit made by stupid decisions to please shareholders. There is no other explanation of how the game witch HUGE potential is ruined once again for short term benefits and "infinity" growth for shareholders. When they will learn that there is no such thing like infinity growth. Bye, bye BioWare.

Anthem looked very promising before its release, something that most games share with each other when a big publisher is in charge of the marketing. However, the mostly transparent and very down-to-the-community approach that the devs took by being very active on twitter, reddit and on their livestreams build up at least hope, that Bioware would've found back to their former glory.

And at its core, Anthem is a really strong game. The gunplay is solid, the different Javelins with their unique abilities have a good flow to them (despite some balancing issues) and the flying is not just a gimmick but something to factor in on every encounter. When there is one thing, where the game lives up to its expectations, it is the javelin design and the combat system surrounding it.

However, the good core of the combat is overshadowed by technical issues and a repetitive gameplay that rarely motivates you to spend time in the 'so called' endgame.

    Technical Issues / Performance:
First up: If you don't own an SSD, don't play Anthem. The game has loading screens for everything, including the Forge (which is there you change your items/javelin build) and it will take between 40-90 seconds (depending on the activity) to leave the loading screen. Sometimes, you even get a loading screen on top of a loading screen because the rest of your team already headed forward and the game forcibly pulls you to the rest of your team, which results in another loading screen.

There is a a sheer abundance of glitches and bugs that accompany the performance of the game which makes playing Anthem an ongoing gamble if you can actually play a mission or stronghold at all or if you have to reload everything, sometimes multiple times. It is fair to say that the state in which Anthem launched, is a complete embarrasment to their QA team or whoever is responsible for that mess that is in a worse technical state than the demo.

    Gameplay:
The gameplay of Anthem knows only three specific types of game encounters:
    > Point Defense
    > Fetch numbers of item A and bring it to ooint B
    > Kill stuff until your mission updates

Those three pillars of mission design repeat themselves over and over, even within the storyline, where Bioware could have gone nuts with all the cool stuff their storyline had to offer, if it had been properly executed. The game doesn't try to hide the three game mechanics from you and it doesn't try to mask it. Instead you kill the same 2-3 types of enemies of enemies over and over again, fetch the same items (not even those change, there are like 2-3 presets for them as well) until you get one unique bossfight at the end of the storyline and thats literally it.

The strongholds, which are supposed to be the endgame activity, have, despite a plethora of technical issues (which caused Bioware to deactivate quickplay for them temporarily) a good design despite the third one, which is just the last story mission tagged as a Stronghold.

    Storyline:
Bioware is known for their good and deep story in their games and in some interviews, they also acknowledged, that story would be a centerpiece of Anthem as well. However, the story itself was bland and uninspired and felt much more like an introduction to something bigger that we have yet to see. Sometimes there are bits where your character interacts with his dialogue partner, mostly during lenghty dialogue cutscenes and in those moments, you can really see that Bioware still got what it takes to tell a good story. Those cutscenes really sucked me in but where far too rare in order to make the otherwise bland story special.

The world of Anthem is so rich with interesting characters and unique features, however compared to their previous games, Anthem fails to tell an interesting storyline. In fact, the main campaign isn't even in line with their leveling curve and I finished the main storyline at around level 19 of 30 and had to grind 11 levels in strongholds, missions and contracts until I was able to experience the endgame.

    Endgame:
Anthems endgame is currently pretty much non-existent. If you had to call some part of the game "endgame", it would be unlocking the Grandmaster difficulties and playing the same three strongholds over and over in order to achieve legendary and masterwork items. And in fact, I think that would keep people at least entertained until their content patch in march hits. The numerous technical issues and horrendous loading times however, do a perfect job of blocking you from enjoying that form of content.

    Verdict:
Anthem has a strong base, but lacks in nearly every part despite its core gameplay, which is at least solid. You will only enjoy this game, if you somehow don't experience all the technical issues others are experiencing and if you fall in love with the gameworld. In any other case, I'd advise skipping this title. I think myself lucky that I only paid 15 Euros for EA premier access for this game.

Core design features also destroy immersion with constant loading screens, poorly designed menus, and a complete lack of basic features like squad communication, waypoint markers, ping systems, in-game menus, gear stats etc. In short the game feels very incomplete and unfinished. I've played demos that are more finished and polished than this "final" product.

Sure, new content is coming -- but, that won't fix the many core issues that slowdown, cripple, and choke the life out of an experience that could have been amazing. This is far from the "Bob Dylan of video games" ...

If you rush to end-game, like most people do, of course you will finish it in 20-30 hours. This holds true for 60$ single player games as well.
If you pace it out, and actually try to enjoy the good things, by the time you reach to end content, new content will be available.

This game being a looter shooter we deserve better. There is nothing really in the end game that grabs you and feed that hunger to get that next, to get that peace of armor, or to get the gun everyone is talking about. I really hope in a couple months we will see great change in this game but i'm worried that some of these problems aren't just fixing we can get in updates. Some problems are design problems that are at the core of the game code. so lets hope Anthem can live on, but for me i am out.

The story is great, about 3-5 days of the story while "no-lifeing" it. if you played it casually.. most likely over a week of story. When I first played the enemies would not load into the areas and would deal damage to me, sort of like a ghost hitting me. Loading screens were a big problem, but after I uninstalled and reinstalled on my SSD everything was good, quick loading screens and no more "ghost soldiers". Back to the story, even after you complete it is left open-ended... meaning more story WILL come out for it. After the story, you will grind Agent missions / Contracts / Strongholds / Freeplay Events. You can replay missions with friends. This game is made for people who are willing to put the time in, there is a large challenge too which you'll need to play the game consistently. Again, I've been waiting for this game for a while, I do not think its a waste of money, more so people have a negative view of EA coming into the game, which I get. At the end of the day you will either be an Anthem Fan or not, not much more to be said. This game was meant for a select group, those who enjoy Squad Action Adventure games will like this, again I know there were problems. I've been playing since Beta and since the 15th of Feb. For those complaining about paying $60 to have 30+ hours ($2/hour) of entertaining game play I highly suggest they reevaluate what they consider to be worth while. However, the game is just plain broken. Some of the design decisions are baffling, and the story is average at best. Some of the dialogue is great, but a majority of it is pretty cringe inducing. Worst of all, no matter what I try to do, even after the day one patch, the game just runs so terribly that I can't believe it shipped in this state. I don't have the best PC, but this is the first game I have ever encountered where my PC just can't even come close to handling it. I have constant frame rate drops from 60 fps to 1-3, every 10-30 seconds. It is unbearable. I've tried every tip and setting possible, and run on low settings, and it makes no different. Worst part is I can run on high/ultra and have the same fps as on low, which leads me to believe it probably isn't my PC.

Just can't recommend the game in this state, and it is a shame. It may someday be great, but it definitely is not right now. Even when I can play it without hiccups, which is rare, especially after the latest update, there just is not enough meat on the bones to overcome the negative aspects. With that said, I still do enjoy playing and will continue to login from time to time hoping for some improvements.

The story is very short and hangs quickly upon getting through first third, turning into repetetive grind, showing what's really there. The optimization is severely lacking, considering it's a Bioware game, it's very disappointing story and character wise. The idea that you walk around the "hub" on your own, in first person without being able to fully customize your Freelancer makes it really hard to form any sort of connection to.. Well, yourself. For a game that's been supposedly in the making since Mass Effect 3, it feels more like free to play early release buy-in closed beta, rather than fully fledged AAA release. It's the truth you could say the same about Destiny 2, but Destiny 2 ran far better, played better, didn't have so many technical issues, and if we are to use the comparision, it took Destiny 2 120$+ to get to a game people really like. As far as the microtransactions go, they're poor as well. The prices are on par with Warframe, but one has to keep in mind that Warframe is a Free to Play game, and the skins that are around 8$ in the store now are only Epic quality, leaving Masterwork and Legendary qualities to be imagined as what will they cost. 20? 30? Who knows.

As far as the lore goes, you might feel really lost. I found it incredibely hard explaining to my partner, after sinking in 40+ hours through Origin Acess, having finished both Story and Endgame on Grandmaster I, what the game is actually about. The story behind the enemies, or behind the good guys, I suppose it's all there in the Codex for you to read, but in my honest opinion that's far from alright story telling. I doubt anyone would have any issues explaining what Geth are after Mass Effect.

Both me and my partner had huge expectations for the next "Bioware game" and were met with massive disappointment. Even me, as someone who sank over 300 hours into Destiny 2, 300 into Division and over 2k hours into Warframe, I just can't see the spark that'd keep anyone going in Anthem. You can't craft anything you don't own and didn't extensively use, leaving you with hundreds, if not over thousands crafting materials that you can't really use aside "re-rolling" gear.

The coin flow for unlocking cosmetics is pretty much just like Fallout 76 atoms. You finish one-time challanges to achieve maybe 60-70k coins and then it halts into a daily/weekly/monthly grind, which can be as tedious as killing 500 enemies from each faction, doing X amount of "World events" that you can't track on map, or other silly things.

Also, there is no text chat whatsoever. No pinging enemies or location for other players. No sticker system ala Monster Hunter World. No waypoints for map. If you literally can not talk like me, you're left dead in the water, aside maybe trying to animation-wise Wave in morse code what you mean to others.

I could not have cared less about the plot and only a handful of NPC's made me care about what they were telling me. Fort Tarsis felt like a crypt instead of a main hub and the inability to run through it was infuriating. My playthrough quickly turned into: "let's pick the dialogue option that appears to be the shortest so i can get back to playing."

Combat did become repetitive rather quickly and the lack of life in the world did not help the matter. I cannot help but look at the E3 trailer's world and compare that to the world that was delivered and i keep thinking that I would much rather be playing on that map. The one we received feels like it could have been procedurally generated since it looks barren, identical, and poorly crafted. I enjoy Warframe, Destiny, and the division and hoped to add this to my stable of favorite games but sadly that will not be the case. Here's to hoping they fix the majority of the problems in the next year or two.

    Gameplay 9.5/10
    Graphics: 9.5/10
Story thus far: 5/10 - but I'm feeling positive overall
Quests: 5/10 - repetitive thus far, but some of it is interesting
    World building: 7/10
Bugs/Problems: 9/10 - the ONLY issue I've had is sound cutting out. They know about the issue and I believe they are working on it.

Apparently load times are a concern ... they bother me a bit, but I don't play for hours on end. Thus far, I play for one or two missions a night, so it hasn't bothered me. I think they will fix this.

Overall I got nothing horrible to say. I have a feeling people are hopping on the hate train for this. The devs seem receptive to feedback, and the pre-release is a way for the users to get involved in the process. I think they will make a tonne of changes in the future.

People who give it a 0 with no thought contribute to companies not caring about what we have to say. But that's just the way I would feel if I were them.

Disclaimer: I got this for free with a video card, so maybe my expectations were lower. I did pay for early access so I could play over the long weekend.

Despite some technical problems like crashes and the lack of better optimization and disconnections, none of these problems still affected me so much, because it comes at one time or another. And I believe that even though the game has to launch smoothly or it is the developers' obligation to postpone the release. Anthem is already delivering what it promises, and I foresee a lot of game time. I imagine in a few months it will improve the bugs but they are going to need to improve the dialogue. I still think the Frostbite engine still doesn't deliver but bioware has to use it so what can you do.
I think the some positive marks come from the team saying they like ideas and want to put them in the game. I don't think the game is for everyone and I think it shows with the reviews. As a collective, we need to hold game company's and publishers accountable for day 1 patches. Ship a completed game or delay it until finished.

It starts a bit bland, but once you start getting masterworks and legendaries, my God does it get fun. Giving a 10 to offset the 0 spam from EA haters, I hate them too, but this game is too damn good for me to care.

Anthem is a game that I have been waiting for a long time. I don't mean Anthem specifically, but rather I have been waiting for the kind of game that Anthem is at it's core. A loot shooter with engaging, addictive combat and absurdly powerful loot that comes at the price of countless hours spent.

The world is breathtaking. Even while playing on my rig that is nearly a decade old and the graphics turned as low as they go, the vistas and scenery found while flying around the open world are some of the most awe inspiring views I have ever witnessed in a game.

The combat is the perfect blend of exhilarating, challenging, and rewarding. Rather you are zipping around slaughtering monsters you over gear or going up against foes you have no business attempting while clinging to cover praying you don't get flanked, I always find myself craving more after the last mob falls.

The abilities, guns, and javelins are surprisingly diverse in meaningful ways for a game at launch. Want to focus on freezing enemies and setting your team up for devastating combos? Check. Want to weaken the enemies resistances and cause your whole team to do massive damage? Check. Want to sit back and snipe enemies with a variety of snipers, marksmen rifles or heavy pistols or maybe you fancy getting up close and personal with hard hitting shotguns. Don't worry, all that and so much more is all here.

My most ambitious hopes never expected the loot and grind to be so close to my ideal set up. With a, perhaps, too wide array of stats and rolls that range from nearly useless to OMG I'm a god now and a drop rate that I wouldn't budge an inch, you can be guaranteed to spend countless hours taking your freelancer from a barely capable newbie to a being of pure destruction.

Now, of course it's not all sunshine and rainbows. You move to slow in the hub world. The story is engaging, but nothing exceptional. Load times are excessively long if you are not playing on an SSD. Certain loot affixes are unclear. There is no detailed menu to let you know what your stat values are. There are bugs, varying from minor graphical, to audio canceling, to mission breaking, although, in my experience, they are not overwhelmingly common. Perhaps the worst problem is not getting loot drops when an enemy, even a boss, is killed while you are downed. While none of these problems ruin the game, all of them together are noticable.

(TL;DR) Bioware has a game here that is exhilarating, addictive, and has more potential for the loot grind audience than maybe any game has ever had. There are problems, yes, but even its current state, the game is easily one of, maybe the, best loot shooters I have ever played. I cannot wait to see what the future of Anthem holds.

By know, everybody knows that these statements were BS, just as all people that had a brain, or any knowledge about game design have been saying since this project was announced.

"...Microtransactions will not affect gameplay..." - In a looter shooter game, where the (supposed) goal of the game is to find cool looking LOOT, how is cosmetic microtransactions different than paying for power in a competitive game? IT'S THE SAME THING. You are affecting the enjoyment of the game (not just because of the game design, which in these situations is made purposefully grindy), but the "pride and accomplishment" you get from EARNING things from FAIR gameplay. There is NO FAIR gameplay with games like Anthem. The game is DESIGNED to push you to spending money, on the very things you are playing the game for (in this case - looks). Aren't they clever, tricking players with semantics?

I'm not gonna even bother with the "story/narrative" because: NEWS FLASH! NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE STORY IN A MULTIPLAYER GAME, especially when you are playing with other people. Such formula will NEVER work. It has been proven time and time again. Even if the game had the most amazing story/narrative/quests/characters (and with anthem, it's the complete opposite), it would still NOT change that fact.

And guess what? They knew this, and they didn't even try. The "narrative", the characters, the "story", THEY ARE THE WORSE THEY HAVE EVER BEEN. In fact, these are below even other boringly average games, like the Division. And that coming form a studio that was KNOWN for these things, IT'S F*CKING EMBARRASING! IT's SAD!

That's right. The main point BIOEA was selling this game to their fans (those that liked story-driven Bioware RPGs), WAS A LIE. It was a lie from the very beginning. And they KNEW it. WE KNEW IT. But they went with it anyway, and were pushing it to the very last moment.
    - - -

let's pull some quotes (from IGN's "Anthem: Full BioWare Interview on Gameplay Features - E3 2018" video):

"Mark Darrah: So, a great story about Bioware is about characters that you can have a connection with, uhm, choices you get to make, and feeling like the story is about you. ... "Our World, My story.""

Well, that's BS. Anthem falls flat on it's face in that regard. Just as expected.

    - - -

"Mark Darrah: What is unique about anthem, is that it's a living shared world, where you experience the Story of your actions."

Again, complete BS statement, and a lie. A lie, softly directed at bioware fans.

    - - -

"Casey Hudson: So what we try to do, is we think about the new experiences that we are trying to unlock for players, so what is the fantasy fulfillment, what are the new things that you actually get to go and do, THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM WHAT YOU'VE PLAYED BEFORE."

Again - another lie. No matter if he meant "different from what you've played before" in terms of comparing to other games, or Anthem and it's "mission/quest design". BOTH OF THESE THINGS ARE INCORRECT when it comes to Anthem.

No point in getting into more detail here. You can watch Skillup's reviews on anthem, and see if these BOLD statements from Mark Darrah and Casey Hudson are true. [Hint - THEY ARE NOT!]

    - - -
And isn't it cute, how there are rumors/whispers floating about how Bioware's future is is tightly dependent on Anthem's failure/success? What is this? some sort of driving people towards "sympathy purchases"?

You know what, Bioware? IF YOU STILL MADE THE GAMES WE WANTED/EXPECTED from you, we would've cared about your "future". But with generic crap like Anthem, which is obvious change of focus for the studio, and being EXACTLY what we though it's going to be (money-making online crap, that's not even as good as other FREE games like it), the most proper response at this point would be: F*CK YOU!

And f*ck all of the EA influencers, which main task was to "convince" people (the fanbase) that like Bioware's story driven action RPGs, that they should "give Anthem a chance", or even bully them to LIKEing it, just to keep BW's ass from EA's chopping block, DESPITE IT BEING A GAME THEY KNOW THE FANBASE WOULDN'T LIKE, OR CARE ABOUT (live service, multiplayer looter shooter with MT cr*p). Same thing as failout 76.

No lessons were learned, from all of the failures of other companies, that tried the "try something new", which is nothing more than "- We wanna capitalize on the current money makers, f*ck our customer base, we will strong-arm them into liking our new direction". Which is what EA's motto is, and it's exactly what Anthem is. Uninspired, boring, repetitive, appealing to NOBODY, cookie-cutter live-service EA crap, marketed with lies and false promises.

Also, Mass Effect "Died" For THIS!???

F*ck this game. The score given is a STATEMENT.

The loading times, as most actual reviewers stated are pretty bad. They've gotten a little better with the day 1 patch, but they're still pretty bad. To me that isn't a huge issue as I have no problem alt+tabbing and reading something for a minute or responding to a message I may have received. The loot can be pretty boring until you hit max level and start getting masterworks. I've seen a lot of people complain about how repetitive it is, and it is a bit repetitive but there is no looter shooter out there that isn't (I.E Warframe, Destiny, Borderlands all suffer from this).

I've been playing the game since early access started and I must be playing a different game or all of a sudden I'm the luckiest person alive because I've experienced two bugs in over 30 hours of gameplay. The audio bug that cuts out randomly which I believe has been fixed and then the bug that shows you have your ult when you don't. That's it. So I'm not sure what people are doing or trying to do that causes their game to be a buggy mess.

Touching on micro transactions as I've seen that talked about a few times. Games are more expensive than ever to produce and game prices haven't gone up in years. People don't want to pay for DLC but they want content to keep being created for a game. I'm not really sure what people expect the devs to do to keep pulling money in to make making new content profitable. It's a company, they have to be making money. Not to mention all the MtXs can be bought with in game currency that you get at a fairly good rate.

Could the game be better, yeah. 100% could have been done better, they could have taken some fixes that Destiny made in the long run and put them in at the start. There are basic QoL updates that need to be done (which they've already stated are being worked on). It needs more end game content, but that's where the games as a service comes in. Those will be free updates in the future. But that's why the game doesn't get a 9 or a 10 from me. It's fun, but it could be better. I can't help but shake the feeling that, at least for some users, it's just automatically bad because it's an EA game and they have a HUGE recency bias towards EA.

The devs have shown they're listening to user feedback and have talked about content that will be coming in the future as well as the QoL updates the games need. Honestly if you have EA Access it's worth playing, it really is fun in my opinion and I think that most of the hate is unwarranted. If you don't have EA Access I would wait until the first larger content update comes out some time in March and then see how people are feeling about the game as one major concern I have is end game content. Though they've stated they have plans for a few years of content for the game.

Like I said at the start, the most important thing about the game is that it is fun. It's fun to fly around as Iron Man with friends and shoot aliens and bandits. If the game is checking 2 of the 3 boxes of (Gameplay, Graphics, Story) then I'm on board. The game is gorgeous, the gunplay and gameplay in general is fun and the story is just alright.

Actual gameplay? Enjoyable at this stage, will it get old too fast? Depends on what Bioware do with it really. If it receives updates then it has the potential to be great.

The game is a hollow shell and while the shell looks very nice. every thing with in it is empty. The combat though isn't to bad, unfortunitly you will be fighting waves of braindead AI who either rush you or just stand there with there thumb up there butt.

Then you have the load times and oh dear god are they bad. even with a SSD you will be waiting almost a minute and my friend had a HDD and he said he was waiting a few minutes and that might be tolerable if there wasn't a TON of loading moments.

Performance is complete crap. It's not optimized well and stutters on my rig and I have a I7 6700k , 980 TI and 16GB Ram. I have no problem maxing any game out still with that set up and things running smoothly unless the game optimized like crap.

The story sucks, The NPC's in this game are annoying as all hell. The story is coma inducing and you just want to skip it and go back to the repetitive gameplay instead. which by the way all you do is go to point A kill some enemies go to point b kill more enemies then point C fight boss and repeat. There is a open world mode witch is dull as hell. The loot is also boring. I never felt excited getting any thing unlike say borderlands 1 and 2.

The world is also very empty. while it looks really nice graphically there is just nothing there. This game feels like its a Early access game. Like it could be some thing good in the future like in maybe 1.5-2 years or more. As it is now I personally wouldn't pay more then $5 for it and it will probably be $30 in a month and since it has MTX I wouldn't be surprised if it went F2P with in a year. I would not pay $60 for this for any reason.

boring and non-optimized, with a good computer - at settings below the average 40-50 fps + constant ejection from the game or the sound disappears. like well, it turned out as always. very sorry for those who bought at full price. (16 hrs in game)

Bioware created an amazing and unique combat system in addition to a beautiful world and intriguing story. Your basic looter shooter with flying. Everyone is hating hard because "EA bad" but this is a game I've enjoyed more than 40 hours with my friends, and can't wait to see future content. People giving this a 0/10 are not giving a fair review. The game is certainly not 0.

The game has good visuals and voice overlay but the overall story behind it is lacking and boring. You don't get a sense for the characters and it replicates too much from other syfy games and stories. This is a bad combination of Gears of War, Iron Man, a touch of Destiny, and the movie Avatar. The game is lots of fun, although has some issues.
Big problems with reviews is weird expectations - some people expected new Mass Effect, some people expected just ordinary looter-shooter. The game is a mix of both, and it is somehow not appealing for many. Just read the reviews carefully - is individual component receives enough praise from SOME people, but somehow not many people like

I have not experienced any major technical problems. Loading screens are a bit annoying, yes. But not a game-breaker.

Loading screen simulator. It is another ME: A...Same **** bugs, pornostory and "endgame". If you want playing this type of game, just take Warframe. Better and cheaper.

    Bioware is dead...Thank you, EA:)

The game runs well, it looks good and it’s fun to play. The mission system is similar to a monster hunter in that, you setup for a mission, you collect loot during mission, and once the mission task is complete you return to the hub. The missions have a Ghost Recons: Wildlands vibe in that, there are way points and voice over communications that provide the mission story and guidance. The game runs well, it looks good and it’s fun to play. Satisfaction comes from the ironman style shooter experience and the co-op nature of the game. Wildlands was an okay game as game, however it’s the co-op nature of the game that made the experience and the same goes for anthem. The bit and piece of the story of the world is released to the player through dialogue with characters in the hub world. I have just over 10 hours of play time and it gives me the experience and play game I was expecting. As well it’s fun to play.
I haven’t noticed any bugs and the loading screen haven’t been an issue, however I have M.2 drive. And of course there are things that could have been better with the game but the game isn't as bad as the review suggest.

What is going on with the reviews of the game? If you really think there is an issue with the game at least start at 4. A score of 0-3 would mean that the game would be unplayable. A lot of the reviews are based on the reviewer’s opinion of EA as a company or their opinion of what the game should have been (another Mass Effect). The game is not a RPG or single play story driven game. The game is a squad-based shooter about the world of anthem told through missions and quick audio.

Very lacklustre. For a game that had so much promise, all it has been able to do is continuously break them. This game is far from groundbreaking with boring characters, lame interactions and just a general all round feeling of 'meh'. The [very grinding] action is plagued by massive amounts of on-screen clutter, especially when fighting numerous enemies which I am also not a fan of. ItVery lacklustre. Huge numbers flying around showing the damage, health etc.

0 Tolerance for unfinished games. EA continues to run rampant, destroying all good things for the love of money. They will never learn.

0 Tolerance for the MASSIVE graphical downgrade that has been unveiled since the 2017 reveal... Games companies need to learn that this deceitful use of misleading advertising needs to stop.

My lack of trust in EA continues to be well founded. Skip this game. Do not support EA. They don't care what the reviews get, all they understand is money, so don't give it to them. Perhaps then they will begin to learn.

    Sad.

BioWare may be able to salvage this game and turn it into something worth playing with updates and expansions overtime. However, in its current state, I do not recommend purchasing this game.

Right, let's start with the positives. The world is beautiful, environments and their tiny details are simply stunning. Javelin customization is also fairly deep, allowing you to also edit finer details such as finishes and fabrics. Gameplay can be fun at first, and each Javelin has enough variety to offer something different. Unfortunately praise ends there, everything else is incredibly underwhelming.

I complemented the environments, but we NEVER do anything interesting in them. You find a horde of enemies, clear them out, and move onto the next point. Enemies are also scattered without any thought, wasting the opportunity to take advantage of the space they're in. It's a real shame because instead of interacting with something the artists obviously spent so much time on, you just fly by and ignore it most of the time.

Now gameplay isn't that bad, though some Javelin's are obviously better than others. Storm seems to be the most popular one I've seen, and I'm guilty myself of being on that bandwagon. Blowing stuff up is really satisfying, until you realize 10+ hours in this is all you do. The whole experience is just a massive grind, and the atrocious loading times don't help. Even at higher difficulties, they don't offer much to spice up gameplay.

People are clinging onto the story as a positive element, seriously? Even next to the likes of Destiny ONE, it's the most generic and uninspired plot I've seen in awhile. It's very difficult to care about the world or characters which inhabit it, everything is just so... soulless. That's one of Anthem's biggest problems, it has no identity of its own. It's just another big budget game which will most likely be forgotten 10 years from now.

As for those repeating, "This is day 1, it's still early they'll fix it later!" remember Mass Effect: Andromeda? They did one patch, and abandoned the product because everyone saw it as a joke. It should be common knowledge by now that a strong launch is EVERYTHING, and right now the product we got doesn't even feel like a complete game.

After a while, suspicion sets in: perhaps EA doesn’t believe in BioWare anymore, and had them release not only unpolished, but basically unfinished product to cut losses and avoid another total rework. [Issue#237, p.44]

If you want to see Anthem’s lush jungle and glistening Javelins, do it right away — this game is losing audience fast, and there’s almost nothing to do after the campaign ends. Or check it out on YouTube to save yourself some nerves and money.

It's obvious that Anthem didn't have enough development time, but had some great potential. It's a real shame, that everything turned out this way. Even now, the game can bring out positive emotions. Hasty climbers have sudden falls. No matter how ironic this proverb may seem, it's incredibly relevant for Anthem.
