    Pros:
    1) Henry Cavill - great actor and a big reason why this show is enjoyable.

The setting is awesome, as well as the sets and filming locations. The VFX are solid and the storys are interessting. But for myself there was a little bit of confusion when they try to weeve together the different timelines over the season. Thats the only point where i think they have some adjusting to do. But iam looking forward to the second season! Expand

While the start was a little rigid, this show begins to perform well toward the end of the first episode, I am excited to see the second season now that they have drawn up the origins of its primary characters.

The show is incredible! It isn't without its flaws and there are a few questionable casting choices, but it's still a great watch. Ultimately, Henry plays the role of Geralt splendidly and as a fan of the games, I was not disappointed.

It nails the time perfectly, the characters are very well realised and have a lot of depth. Henry Cavill in particular blew me away. I wasn’t his biggest fan going into this series, but I’m now fully convinced of his actor chops! Despite other reviews comments to the contrary, I found the series three interwoven time lines quite easy to follow as though there may not be “YEARS LATER” printed on the screen in big obnoxious letters, there’s always some visual or script clue to lead you into the scene in a subtle - but unmissable way if you’re actually watching it properly! It wasn’t remotely difficult to follow - and for me at least, worked really well narratively when we get to see some familiar events unfold from a fresh perspective. Thoroughly enjoyed the series, I only bumped it from a perfect score because I’m genuinely impatient for more! Cannot wait for season 2, 3 and beyond. If you’ve even a passing interest in The Witcher, give it ago - hopefully you’ll be as pleasantly surprised as I was! Expand

I don't understand why the show runners wanted to tell a story in three different time lines. Was confusing at first too me but, I mange to figure it out. I still need to read the books. Mainly played the games which take place right after the books. Henry really brings out Gault and she his acting chops and skill so he wont be tight cast as Superman. The supporting cast ready shine.

Casting is good. Especially Henry Cavill gave it all, as a true Witcher fan himself, gave us a worthy performance as Geralt. However, Anya Chalotra is a different story.

Yes, she is a capable actress and i'm against whitewash casting but original Yennefer in the novels is quite different than Chalotra's Yennefer. She is described as a very pale figure and she is a difficult person, she can intimidate anyone easily if she desires to. But in the series she is quite a brunette and not intimidating as we imagined to be. Anna Shaffer's Triss is also an unexpected choice but she is a side character in the novels so no big deal. But Yennefer is a main character in novels so it matters more.

As a Witcher fan i watched all season in 12 hours or so but following the storyline can a little bit difficult because of Sapkowski's novels have a messy timeline. They made everything they can in series to give it a little bit order whatsoever.

    It's a good fantasy-action series.

I really loved the battles, Henry does a really good job as Geralt and the fight scenes are great, I like Freya as Ciri and absolutely love MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, she's absolutely perfect the role. Overall, I enjoyed every single episode, less the first two episodes, and loved the third and the last one the most. The CGI needs some work, sometimes it looks like bad, unpolished effects. And it seems the background music missed from certain moments. Music is important to add emotions to a moment/story. I wish Marcin Przybyłowicz was involed in the show, too bad NETFLIX didn't reach him. And I must say I am not entirely satisfied with the cast, especially Fringilla.

I can not stress enough how great it is to get a good book and video game adaptation to a TV Series... Now if you come into this not having read "The Last Wish" book by Andrzej Sapkowski, or if you have not even looked at any of the games; then you will be a bit confused at where the storyline is taking place - it is also a particular type of story telling, which, in this particular show, works very well at showing key stories of Geralt in the past (book The Last Wish) while showing you current events and establishing characters where I'm sure the second season will take place with the current timeline by the end of season 1.

Overall, the season is roughly 8hrs of glorious story telling of the short stories in the first book "The Last Wish" and young Cirilla escaping the pursuit of the Nilfgaardian Empire. While it does have some questionable inclusions of characters at particular timelines that don't exist in the book, I can see why the inclusions are necessary to progress character development and time.

I will outline a few key characters and my top moments/ability of their acting.

Henry Cavil as Geralt: Nailed the voice interpretation from the source material and heavily influenced from the game, with Henry having played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt himself, you can clearly tell he's spent many hours perfecting the "Geralt voice" and it is down right great. Honourable mentions are his powerful moments with Jaskier (Dandelion from the English books) and Roach interactions are perfect.

Anya Chalotra as Yennifer: Amazing acting, emotional scenes when we are first introduced to her, she is literally crying snot which is amazing ability as an actor to show such RAW emotion... and following her character arc, by the end, she is totally different to the disfigured girl we see in the beginning... she is Chaos. (not a spoiler unless you've seen the show already or read the books).

Freya Allan as Cirilla: WOW! I've never cared about a fiction character as much as Freya Allan portrayed Ciri... The fragile but unknowingly most power character is acted perfectly as Freya takes us on an emotional adventure and discovering he unknown powers and the "Find Geralt of Rivia" Main quest she's on.

Because the 3 actors I've mentioned are considered the "main character" I will keep the list to them.

Other mentionable things: CGI and Practical effects. Both are used... I'm happy to see that Practical was favoured most of the time which adds that slight realism, a few CG shots were noticeable but it's not a huge turn off. Nilfgaardian armour is disgusting and not what anyone envisioned but that's where the complaints end.

Summary: If you're a Witcher fan, you'll love it... If you've never watched, read, played or been interested in any of the Witcher franchise then you might not find it that enjoyable. Everyone compares it to Game of Thrones, and it's not the most fair comparison, The Witcher franchise is very well written and The Witcher games have taken, after the books are written, even further with "The Wild Hunt". So, it's got the feel of GoT, the Gore of GoT, the Erotic scenes of GoT, but I do not consider The Witcher to be compared to GoT... it is on it's own and should be held far above other shows that have tried and failed the type of adaptation this is.

My suggestion is to add, on the next season, more scenes showing Geralt getting prepared to fight monsters (one example is the scene of Geralt fighting with Striga on the CG animation).
I think it would be interesting to show the Witcher side of Geralt and what he can do with his powers, knowledge of potions and tracking monsters.

As someone who played the games, The Witcher series nailed the feelling of the games, great acting and direction, really enjoyed it.
last episode was a little bit off for me, felt like it as dragging for a bit.

Music (specially Jaskier-Dandelion's) is great.Main theme has a similar tone to Witcher 3's theme.

The only casting that i've a problem is Triss. She isn't even similar to her.Yes, her acting may be good, but the looks is not.Grealt is great,Jaskier is great,Ciri will grow, Yennefer is okay.

My only problem with this series is time transitions. It doesn't say anything when an episode is from the past or not, so you have to figure it out yourself which is hard in the beginning (and if you didn't read the books) but you get used to it.

If you are a casual viewer of tv that rather listen in the background (nothing wrong with that) you’ll hate this show. While the books aren’t GoT levels of co fusing the show can be. No spoilers but there are three timelines going on at the same time:

    Geralt of Rivia
    Yennefer of Vengenberg
    Cirilla princess if Cintra

Cirilla’s story of what we’ll call present times. Geralt’s is before that and spans decades
Yennefer’s is before and spans about 40 years or so

It’s disarming because Geralt and Yenn don’t age. The show does address this and is very easy to follow if you have read the books or pay attention to the very subtle clues as to the time period. Small quips like “those crows feet are new”(referring to someone’s eyes) is sometimes all you get to distinguish the timeframe. But other then that the show is amazing. Cavill nails Geralt and should win an award. Yen’s actress is also awesome with a level of menace and subduction in her voice and actions. It filled the sword of destiny and the last wish while making small changes here and there and accomplishes what those books did. This season manages to tackle world and lore building while using Ciri’s journey As the backdrop to further the overall plot. All in all a fantastic show

He nailed his voice and character really well. I am comparing this to the Witcher game series. I haven't read the books yet.

A lot of people might compare this to Game of Thrones but this is completely different. It's mostly based on the eastern and central Europe slavic culture. There are a lot of grey areas than Game of Thrones, as someone from the show said there are no good or bad choices but just evil and lesser evil choices.

When in a lot of other shows, especially Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, the characters are very idealized, in this show the characters are much more human, each which their own flaws, strengths and weaknesses. Each character in the show is trying to live his own life according to his own agenda.

The world looks stunning. It is beautifully filmed and constructed. The views are amazing. So are the battles. Usually you only see a handful of big battles in tv shows. Not in this one, there are plenty of battles.

Which brings me to the actual fights in the show. They are really amazing. Especially the sword fights. Henry Cavill as Geralt really has some amazing moves. He really trained for this role and he nailed it pretty well.

Now on to the other characters. Most of the actors seem like a really good match for the character they are portraying. I liked Yennefer and Ciri especially. Sure, in the games she might look a bit more sexy and more beautiful, but in the tv show she seems more real and human. Ciri was portrayed perfectly by the actor. She is supposed to be young and innocent in tv show. In the games, Ciri is older and trained by Geralt and Yennefer. The timeline in the games is set after the timeline in the tv show. Jaskier in the tv show is Dandelion from the games. He has a different name because of how you can translate his original name from polish to english. In polish he is named after a flower which is translated to buttercup in english. This doesn't sound really well so the authors of the game series decided to change it to Dandelion. In the tv show, they just named him directly from polish without translating his name. And the actor who plays him, portrays him perfectly. He is supposed to be quite annoying, a real women charmer and with some really funny/sarcastic jokes from time to time. He also has a very good chemistry with Geralt, and they suit one another really well.

Then comes Yennefer. In the tv show, Yennefer is shown in her beginnings and before the timeline in the Witcher game series. Which explains why she is a bit more naive and she still has a lot to learn. But towards the end of the first season of the tv show, she evolves and becomes more like the Yennefer we used to know in the games. I do admit though that the actress seems a bit too dark skinned and skinny for the role, but other than that she is a pretty good match. The actress nailed her character pretty well with her sarcastic and ironic remarks towards Geralt.

On the other hand the actress which portrays Triss is only a decent match for her. She is supposed to be a red head but in the show she is way to dark skinned with dark hair. They could have done a better job her. It's one of the reasons why I am giving the show only a 9 out of 10.

The rest of the cast is pretty well thought out. I like that a lot of the side cast really does look like people in medieval eastern Europe skinny, malnourished, simple minded peasants or like the upper elite of the society in those times or like brutish savages.

The story honestly is more brutal and darker than even Game of Thrones. A lot of atrocious things happen in the show. The world portrayed in it, is brutal and full of conflicts, betrayal and death. No one is sparred this reality. This is more like a dark fantasy show. On the other hand, even in this grim world, some light, decency and nobility still manages to shine through. Which makes it even more interesting and fascinating. The way it is told is a bit unusual, the events are not told in the order that they happen. But I kind of like this, it keeps you intrigued and forces you to pay attention to understand everything better. I was scared initially that it will be some kind of tv drama centered around the royal courts, castles and palaces but it was far from it. I also like that it has just the right amount of drama. Not too much nor too little compared to other show like Game of Thrones.

I really don't know why a lot of people and especially critics gave it such a low score. Some of the "critic" reviews I just read are utter crap. Some wanna be critic only watched 2 episodes and said it was crap? How pretentious. This just proves how little we should pay attention to these so called critics. This is a pretty darn good tv show.

This structure of the first season works well with the whole "destiny" theme and manages combine separate stories defining the characters and create a foundation for the main story of the book series that will be shown in the following seasons.
My only major problem with the story is the whole Brokelon forest arc which was poorly executed and without Geralt there served no purpose other then being something for Ciri to do so her timeline wouldn't have be dropped completely while the show focused on Geralt and Yen.

A lot of people have issues with the timelines however I found this not to be an issue as if you are watching the show and actually listening to the dialogue you can see quite easily that the story has different timelines however tracking how much time had passed between episodes was slightly rough and I’d definitely say is a negative but overall not critical to the show. Once all of the timelines come together in episode 8 you can see how all of the timelines from earlier episodes come together to create a puzzle that fits quite nicely as one and it feels very rewarding once you figure it out. Of course the show is not perfect and has its issues (mainly the fast pacing and ability to keep up with how much time has passed between episodes) however I believe it is solid first season not because the season is amazing on its own but because you can clearly see how it is meant to set up the future of a show that is supposed to run for many seasons - 8.5/10 this however could go up or down depending on the effect the first season has on the future of the show as it is clearly not meant to be a stand alone season. I can't wait for the next season!

I can't understand some of the bad reviews complaining about diversity. This is a show made for a worldwide audience in the 2020's, based on a book made in the 1990's. It should not be shocking to anyone that the show needed more diversity than the books, or video games. None of the casting took away from the show, or the lore in my opinion. It will only make the show better, and more interesting.

The show was awesome the magic was battle and other fight scenes were great. The story the first 3 to 4 episodes were strange due to the majority of the episodes were actually flashbacks but this was not said making the story come off strange. After episode 4 it finds its footing and you can understand what is happening with the 2 stories being told. With that said it was a great showThe show was awesome the magic was battle and other fight scenes were great. I truly loved it, really i did. I would give it a 10/10 if triss wasnt 50 years old and brunette. But that's a minor problem. And how could they leave out gwent!

Interesting characters and great action. Can be a little confusing, but I think that is due to the complexity of the world they are creating.

I really really enjoyed this show. If you love fantasy with a great story and great characters then this show is for you. The timeline gets a little confusing but it all makes sense in the end and you will appreciate it

The Witcher is a messy tangle of plotlines in a world underdeveloped to the point of obscurity.

As a mindless fantasy rollercoaster, Geralt’s journey is five stars all the way to tea-time. Sadly, for those who like brains with their brawn, it may be more of a slog.

It takes a while for viewers to learn how these characters are connected, via an exasperating Westworld-esque narrative knot that takes much of the season to unfurl. ... The Witcher heightens our confusion by fumbling details that would have helped it set a cohesive tone. Dialogue vacillates, from line to line, between theatrical fantasy-speak and modern colloquialisms (“Dragons are, in fact, a thing!”).
