This show is awesome! Fr the costumes, to the acting, to the multiple storylines, the sets, and the balanced use of CGI and practical effects. My wife and I love it and REALLY hope a second season comes out!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The story is kinda bad. I think that even a 11 years old kid can have a better imagination to invent something better than this. It has 1% action and 99% jokes "dramatic" moments. Nothing happens. It's just so boring. I do not really know for what are these "writers" paid.
The music is decent, the graphics too, but some characters are just unbearable (the face of the black elf seems to ask for punches for real like most of the elves faces). Galadriel seems to have no scope in life, but to revenge her dead joke brother (that battle scene in which he died looks like a bad joke, the soldiers seem to not even fight but to just move their hands randomly).
By the way, guess that an elf doesn't really have the power to smash those heavy rocks, but there are many phases without logic in this series.
Overall, this series should be watched if you don't have a better alternative.

Soulless corpo products made to appeal to everyone that inevitably not appealing to anyone. Let's be real here - they paid for the name and then slapped it onto something Tolkien abhorred and never would've written. The male camaraderie Tolkien showcased isn't there and instead is replaced with juvenile (writing-wise) homosexual undertones. Everything has been converted to a lower more immature version of how it would've been had they based it on Tolkiens themes. It gives this reviewer the greatest of satisfaction to see something shilled so heavily be utterly rejected by all but a few of the most delusional youtubers (whose channels depend on the drama). “The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own."

Indeed.

And the Tolkien's books describe a lot of races. But they do it logically. If the creature (a dwarf) lives and works in mines, it isn't tall (try to work in a mine when you are 2 meters and thin), but strong. Dwarfs don't see a lot of sun in their mines, so there are white. What can we see in the TV Series? Black queen of dwarfs. How is it possible? The same with elfs. There was even a elf description in the books, that elfs are white. Do you know any elf from the South? You can make black characters. There were people on the South (Numenor, Gondor). 2 Wizards went to the South and East, they also can be black if you want. But it seems, showrunners even didn't read books. They wanted to show modern world using Tolkien's decorations, and you can't believe in it, because you understand, modern morale and modern traditions look artificial in this world. What will be next? Galadriel will use M16 and AK74? Expand

(direct lore violation), the fact it uses more made up characters than real Tolkien characters? (indirect lore violation), that it is clearly politically motivated? (“It felt only natural to us that an adaptation of Tolkien’s work would reflect what the world actually looks like,” which is inserting modern elements from the real world and thus a direct lore violation), or perhaps how Tar-Míriel is alive before the forging of the rings and actually interacts with Galadriel in Númenor? (direct lore violation multiple times over) or maybe because Isildur is alive before the forging of the rings? (direct lore violation) and what of Celebrimbor looking like an old man? (indirect lore violation) or how Galadriel's character being described as being full of "piss and vinegar" but is also totally different from the books and a Mary Sue and thus perfect at everything? (direct lore violation) or how Galadriel is seemingly being both unmarried and unaware of the fact Finrod was reincarnated long ago? (direct lore violations) and why are two Durins alive at once? (direct lore violation) with there being Númenórean war cavalry? (direct lore violation) Is that enough or do you want more? Ok how about Harfoots existing in the second age and elf-identifying as such? (indirect lore violation) or how the Númenórean army will have a 50/50 gender split (direct lore violation) with Tar-Míriel as a ruling queen? (direct lore violation) Lets also consider the driving question behind the production, he [McKay] adds, was this: “Can we come up with the novel Tolkien never wrote and do it as the mega-event series that could only happen now?” - thus it is not an adaptation of Tolkien's work anyway with there being at least one non-Tolkienian elf-human romance (indirect lore violation) to boot. Is that enough or is this somehow racist too? What a train wreck. Only people who have no idea about the lore will love this and dislike this review haha. Expand

it does not seem very well thought out. Even the protagonist seems a bit childish, for a being that's been around for millennia.
Better stick to the books, I'm afraid. Great visuals, though!

It's a pretty good show so far. As a fan of Tolkien's world, in writen and movie form, I really enjoy seeing Middle Earth during a time where the world has not fallen into pieces yet, the civilizations are still grand and majestic. And they really know how to show this off, as we have many moments where the show just presents us a new city and let's us take in their size and grandure. I also really like the overall plot. It's a smart approach, how they managed to put together different plot lines that are very character-focused and have secrets and question marks, even for fans of the book. And despite the extrem complexity of the books this show has been adapted from, they manage to break down the lore in a way that it is understandable and digestable for newcommers. And I really, really appreciate the fact, that they manage to keep the dialogues and characteres grounded and believable as part of their world. My major worry has been that they would try to make all the dialogues and characters "witty", a sickness that has grown over skript-writing ever since Marvel started to become the big player in franchise-production with their Superhero-characters. But no such thing! It's not, that the skript is entirely without humor or fun, it's just more low-key and fits the tone of the world really well. The weaker points of the show so far has been some of the characters. Three episodes in, and there is a huge gap between some of the more likable characters with a lot of personality and some more... let's generously call them "bland" characters. And given that, as I mentioned before, the individual plot lines are very character driven, it's a problem that some characters really are not up to the task yet to really carry their scenes. Another issue after three episodes is, that... not much seems to have happened so far. Given that these three episodes come together to a total of over 3 hours (or approximatelly the length of one of Peter Jackson's movies in the same world), it really doesn't feel like a whole lot has happened yet. I don't mind a slow burn, but if you have several plot lines running parallel, it would be good to have at least SOME of them be a bit differently paced. However, I have to say that I am pleasently surprised. It's a pretty damn good translation of Tolkien's world onto the screen and a solid attempt of creating an engaging narrative for a rather difficult part of the history of this universe. If it keeps going in this way, I will end up really enjoying myself. So far, I would absolutely recommend it! Expand

Don't listen to racist bigots trying to defend it, but also avoid hating it just because it has a bunch of "woke inclusions" before forming your own opinion. This show has some redeeming qualities, the visuals are stunning with lots of throw backs to the movie trilogy (in both, the good sense and bad) and despite most dialogs being cringy and lousy with an overuse of cliche and plain tropes, the actors in general are quite talented and the sound/music quality is pretty decent... almost as if it were trying to compensate the lacks of other departments. I wouldn't recommend it to a fan of Tolken books though.

Most positive reviews come from bigots (aka Karens) who haven't read a single Tolken book and cannot distinguish between Gandalf and Dumbledore and only are trying to boost the user score out of ideological bias rather than an honest review or as a demonstration of how much they liked it, let alone critics with an amazon paycheck. Kinda hilarious how all positive reviews have the same amount of likes and negative ones of dislikes.

Really, really disappointing. I've been a LOTR fan since the early 2000s and this is pretty pathetic work all around other than the stunning cinematography at times.

LOTR fans are hyper-sensitive to the lore, canon and stories put together by Tolkien. There are multiple instances where the lore is ignored, and the dialogue, stories, and even actions are just not believable or relatable.

The Harfoots narrative is extremely boring, the first interactions with the elves and orcs (in the house and in the pit) left me wanting more, and altogether I've left a lot of scenes being like "What were they even trying to do there?".

For example, in the pit fight, one of the elves throws a fit about the orcs making him cut down a tree. As a LOTR fan, I know that trees are sacred to the elves, but they didn't make that clear at all nor did they try to explain that in any way. So it just seemed like the guy loved the environment. It's good to see the people who put together GOT stay much more true to the lore, but unfortunately for the showrunners of LOTR the fan community won't put up with an overly CGI, unbelievable story that tries to use cinematography to make up for the blind spots. We want raw, real, action with deeply flawed yet inspiring characters to who we can relate to. This just isn't it.

Also if I see one more slow-motion cheesy scene of an elf flying in the air with their legs flailing in an attack I'm going to turn it off. BE ORIGINAL.

They could do a better job of explaining things to a casual LotR fan. I will give the show some credit for looking very pretty, but it is also VERY hollow. Considering that each episode costs about $60 million, it adds another level of sadness to how this show is turning out. As a result, I can only give it one star. Given that the new Game of Thrones is out at the same time, I consider GoTR to be a vastly superior product to this LotR iteration. While the plot might improve, I am afraid the bad acting in LotR will remain the same. Expand

This included people who loved the LoTR movies. The cinematography and set pieces are beautiful and the cast was fine. If you're a fan of fantasy, just go in and enjoy the world building and the story development. It'll take time to introduce new characters. Americans just want every episode to have action or to end in some cliffhanger. For a fantasy series to explore as much as possible of its world, it needs time. You can't expect the action of a 3hr movie in a 8+ hr series (or possibly more, if there are more seasons to come). I've watched foreign series from Asia that are 40 hour+ long and it takes a while for the story to develop and there may be a lot of miscellaneous mini-adventures or non-essential story lines mixed in, but in the end, things feel epic. I have no worries about this series at its current rate. Looking forwards to more of it! Expand

Nobody wants this, nobody - except a few screeching leftists. But they do it anyway, because it's political propaganda. Races are central to Tolkien's sagas, he described them very well. They weren't black or asian for that matter. Another series which is more about pushing political woke propaganda than about honoring the book or the original. Then they cry "racism" when they do this to exactly EVERY single story that is European or has white characters in it. I wonder who is "racist" (more like antiwhite) since these people cannot tolerate even a single series with only whites in it (even it was written by a white European, with only white European characters in white european country). Tolkien said it himself: “Evil cannot create anything new, they can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have invented or made.”

This is true for these antiwhites now more than ever. It's ment to humilate and erase you from your own history. Always remember that.

Ok, let's start by the good.

The good:

1. Beautiful and ethereal scenery
2. Gorgeous and heroic-evoking landscapes
3. Very nice CGI effects The bad:

1. Untrue to Tolkien lore
2. Galadriel is unlike the books. She is now an entitled Karen who is a swordmaster (not a spellcaster, sic), with super powers that allows her to punch bear fisted solid walls of ice, take ice trolls all by herself (when seven other elite elf warriors had previously failed seconds before), capable of swimming entire oceans without growing tired etc you simply cannot relate to her character as she's a superwoman with god-like powers that doesn't break a sweat. 3. Poor dialogue, questionable plots twists, and used tropes It's an ok show to watch so long as you do not view it with Tolkien's lore and world in mind. If you can manage that, it's fine to watch.

How dare they claim it’s their time to write this beloved ip. Amazon sucks.

Also, it’s not review bombing to voice criticisms and displeasure with a show. In contrast, all you people positively reviewing this dumpster fire to counteract this supposed negative review bombing are taking part in your own review bombing. Bunch of hypocritical bootlickers. It is filled with horrible writing, lackluster dialogue, dislikable characters, and forced plot. Amazon was not faithful to Tolkien's world. They rewrote the characters they used and removed others that are essential to the story. For example, Celeborn, Galadriel's husband, is nowhere to be found. Not only did they destroy Tolkien's characters, they disrespected him enough to insert their own. They even went so far as to create entirely new races that so not exist in the Legendarium. In addition to annihilating his characters, they abolished the lore and history. As if it wasn't bad enough to destroy and twist the source material, they ignore one of the most basic fundamentals of story SHOW DON'T TELL. At every turn they deliver exposition and description where they should trust the audience to deduce from what they SEE.

In short, an absolute disaster. Not only is it unfaithful to Tolkien it is a terrible show in general. Amazon is not trying to tell a fantastical story but to impose its ideologies into one of the greatest stories in history.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Updated - Looks like Metacritic is getting 10/10 review bombed by Amazon paid shills. Here's a little something I noticed. If you take the "users found this helpful" section and assume that say 28 of the remaining 128 down votes are legitimate then 100 are Amazon shills (currently at 12 of 140 users found this helpful) you can get a better idea as to how many actual legitimate positive reviews there are (currently 329-100=229 legitimate reviewers). The reason this works is the down votes all came within a short period of time after posting this review. The down vote number increased by the same amount as the 10/10 positive reviews increased in that same time period.
I have watched the first 3 episodes and this show is just plain boring. There is no story to speak of. The plot advancement is extremely slow and convoluted. Most of the characters are one dimensional with cheesy dialog. The actor that plays Galadriel only has 2 facial expressions pissed off and smiling maniac. The CGI ranges from decent to pathetic. The bug eyed Warg in episode 3 is just laughable. After 3 episodes I cannot see it getting any better and if you add to this Amazon calling anyone with a negative review an istophobe makes this show not worth giving another chance. Amazon, 3 strikes you are out! I canceled my Prime membership and will be shopping elsewhere.

With LOTR, the third big series has been stomped into the ground by Hollywood wokeness and the loud %5 privileged rich farts of our world that want to dominate us with their strive for power, while conveniently hiding behind their false pretense of fighting for equal rights and inclusion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Nothing is bad in the beginning". The first thing you see are children fighting with each other. Galadriel speaks of "joys" in Valinor while she is just fighting with children.

Elves pursue Morgoth from Valinor to Middle-earth because he extinguished their lights.
We do not know who is Morgoth, an evil elf? Nor if he has a kingdom, an army or monsters?

The true Morgoth didn't have Fell Beasts, but true Dragons like Smaug.

We see wars, but we don't understand them. It is not known who or what they are fighting against. We don't see Morgoth, nor Sauron. Very few orcs, from behind, we don't recognize them.

After the fall of Morgoth, Galadriel's brother hunts down Sauron but it is unknown why.
It was Morgoth who put out the their lights, not Sauron. Sauron stole their desserts? Forgot to say "Hello" to them? We do not know. But they are very angry with him.
(After the War of the 1st Age, Sauron was pardoned by the Valar. He no longer had an army or a Kingdom. He was no longer a threat.)

So Galadriel stubbornly pursues Sauron (who is a sincere repentant) for centuries in the North, without any results.
It's a waste of time, especially when you consider that Sauron was still hiding in the South.
Galadriel blames Sauron for putting out their light (while it was Morgoth who put it out), and not because he, maybe, kiIIed her brother. In fact, we do not know, we see nothing.
She wants the light of her Trees, and do not care of her brother.

So King Gil Galad rewards her for not finding anything and wasting her time by sending her to Valinor by boat. (Her brother is waiting for her, ressurected in Valinor.)
But as she is afraid of Manwë's wrath and Mandos' judgment, she jumps out of the boat in the middle of the ocean and swims back.

She encounters castaways. They all get eaten by a monster except her and Halbrand. She ties herself to a mast during a storm, orders Halbrand to tie himself to her. A wave carries the mast and she sinks with it...while Halbrand is still on the raft (very clever).

Then a village of subjects of Morgoth wishes the departure of the Elven occupants. They want their king Morgoth back, they say it several time.
And when their King Morgoth returns with his army of Orcs who have been their allies for millennia to free them from Elven occupation, they are afraid of the Orcs... Sure.

A Redguard tells his female Imperial friend that the villagers are mean with him.
She is in shock and refuses to believe him, while she has watched the Redguard being insulted by the villagers for 79 years.

Mad Meteorman falls to earth. A gypsy finds him naked, takes him for a ride in a wheelbarrow. She thinks it was her destiny.
Meteorman spends his time on four legs searching the earth. And when he sees someone, he stares and yells wordless screams at them.

At the time of the creation of the Rings, the King of Numenor is Tar-Minastir. Tar-Miriel will be born hundreds of years later.

Tar-Miriel of Numenor is a She Greg ationist who hunts Elves, and she says it's her tradition.
Whereas the Isle of Numenor was given to her ancestors to thank them for their loyalty to the Elves and the Valar. It is a law of Ar-Gimlizor which prohibits the Elves.
So Tar-Miriel betrays her Elven-friendly father and the Valar, and the Elven-friendly tradition of her ancestors.

And worse, if Halbrand is Sauron, Galadriel will put him in power in Mordor... Absolutely.
If Halbrand isn't Sauron, Halbrand is going to be the creator of Mordor.
The series therefore considers that
- Either Galadriel (the immaculate lady of wisdom in the books) supports the forces of Darkness,
- Either Sauron is not the builder of Mordor but only a usurper.
Which in both cases is absolutely inconceivable...

And there are still other nonsense, but the list would be too long.
What does Tolkien have to do with it? I do not know.
It looks a lot like "The Elder Scrolls", we recognize the Dwemers, the Falmers, the Redguards, the Imperials. But of Tolkien, absolutely nothing.
And when I say "nothing", it's "nothing".

As a history enthusiast and hemaist I also found the weapons and costumes appalling. The elves are wearing their ceremonial armor backwards!
I can't even talk about pace, narrative, dialogues, acting and so on, because all these things are simply non-existent. If you still for some reason want to know what happens in this abomination - just watch Disparu or some other reviewer summarizing it. Personally, I'm in awe of Tolkien's life's work, loved the movie experience of the original Lord of the Rings, I had mixed feelings about the Hobbit and felt disheartened about this current project after the first episode. The added value seems to come in crisp shots of this beautiful world. But immersion was frequently broken by awkward dialogue and forced plot points. The team developing the story seemed to have a story in mind that they would like to tell and try to mix it with an existing great story in order to market their better. It feels like an unfortunate attempt of a cash grab, by piggy banking on the success of earlier great work (eg Tolkien, Peter Jackson). The focus seems to be on marketing and appealing to current cultural/political ideas instead of storytelling. In conclusion, if you like Tolkien's world, and would like to more content telling or expanding on his work, there is much better fan fiction on YouTube. Expand

Three hours were given to the Fellowship, captivating, intriguing and finest of all trilogy beginnings. Three hours to the Two Towers, a film with action, love, and hope. And three, three more hours were gifted to the Return, which above all else delivered a satisfying conclusion. For within these films were bound the true spirit of Tolkien and a celebration of humanity's compassion. But they were all of them deceived, for another film was made. Deep in the land of Amazon, in the Fires of Prime, the Dark Lord Jeff Bezos forged a show, and into this show he poured his cruelty, his malice and his will to dominate all media.

One show to rule them all.

One by one, the free lands of the internet fell to the power of the show, but there were some who resisted. A last alliance of non-bots and Tolkien fans marched against the armies of Amazon, and on the very slopes of Prime, they fought for the freedom of the internet. Victory was near, but the power of the show could not be undone. It was in this moment, when all hope had faded, that House of the Dragon, son of HBO, took up his father's sword.

Jeff Bezos, enemy of the free peoples of the internet, was defeated. The show passed to House of the Dragon, who had this one chance to destroy evil forever, but the hearts of showrunners are easily corrupted. And the show has a will of its own. It betrayed House of the Dragon, to his death.

And some ratings that should not have been forgotten were lost. History became legend. Legend became myth. And for two and a half thousand years, the show passed out of all knowledge. Until, when chance came, it ensnared another watcher.

It came to the creature Elon, who took it deep into the tunnels of Twitter. And there it consumed him. The show gave to Elon unnatural long life. For five hundred years it poisoned his mind, and in the gloom of Elon's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forests of the world. Rumor grew of a shadow on IMDB, whispers of brigading, and the show perceived its time had come. It abandoned Elon, but then something happened that the show did not intend. It was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable: a supposed troll, Critical Drinker, of Youtube.

For the time will soon come when trolls will shape the fortunes of all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If Amazon did one thing right, it's spliting Tolkien fanbase in half.
They bet all of their money on compyter effects, which you find in every second shot but there is lack of character build up, not enough time to sink something in properly, Galadriel deffinitely not portrayed as 'wise and powerfull' but rather b***h...
I was so angered, more and more after each trailer by them trying to forcefully push their agenda through the show. I was determined not to watch it, not to spoil the amazing world but I talked myself into checking it out. Im glad I did, so I can actually give a proper reviev but I hate myself for spoiling the world to my eyes and memory...

This is not the Middle-Earth we wanted...

The camera was good, outside combat. During combat, it was really chaotic with too much cuts. The music is quite decent but doesn't really stand out. (The music during dwarf scenes was, on the contrary, really terrible, childish, like in some fairy tale, not epic fantasy world..), the scenery during harfoot scenes is nice..

Some actors acting was good, like Halbarand, Celebrimbor, the giant, the innkeeper, even Elrond occasionaly but it was mostly bellow avarage. I was especially disappointed by Gil-Gallad, Arondir and mainly by Galadriel herself. Her lack of expression, be it either facial or gestures, is big. She is like a robot, programmed to say what what was given to her. Overall, too much time spent on boring scenes like eating snails, while moments of interest are short or left out completely...

The clothing was all wierd and wrong. Galadriel's light shirt on ocean was fine but her armor was too much. Galad's gold was too much, arondir's armor was too much. Harfoot clothing was decent, even though I have no idea why they had to make gipsies out of them...

Dwarves are just one big NO. Music was childish, they made them swing from side to side when walking and look all dirty and homeless..

Clothing was my third biggest concern proved right...

Ny second biggest concern was, as said, their agenda. I love me some good actors of colour and I was kinda fine by them placing them among humans but mixing them even into dwarves and elves was another big NO. Thats not how they are portrayed anywhere and if they thought they can get through with it under such famous and loved LotR logo, no. No one seems to learn from the dislikes and by destroying one franchise after another by these choices...

But my first and biggest concern was the amount of CGI. In the trailers, every second shot was made of pc effects and it is the same with the show... even though they look mostly great, they are still CGI. The hobbit was denounced by the fanbase because of it yet they did not care and threw the effects into every second location... pc effects should be used when creating things that cant be get by normal means like dragons or a meteor shower but no make your whole world built on it..
Smaller details like elves with no long hair, really fast pace without giving people much time to sink something in and the ever present oversaturation dont help either...

I watched the first two episodes, sadly, and I wont be watching anymore, nothing in there cought my eye to go on...

Also, I do not like Galadriel's actor but thats just my personal feeling. And if you are annoyed every time the main character walks into the scenes, there isnt much else to really enjoy...

There are like 17483 stories evolving at the same time with no point what so ever... Horrible horrible horrible, not that i expected anything else but still... They should just make their own series something like turds of amazon and everything would be okay, but to disrespect Tolkiens work like this... Sad, disrespectfull and overall horrible... Expand

I’ve made it through 2 episodes and my family only watched one. Maybe increase the action output or make the characters more interesting. It’s very boring. I’m excited to watch the 3rd episode because after watching the first two episodes if something does not pull me in. I can stop watching this boring movie. I’m not sure why this show cost a billion dollars. Did the actors drink unicorn tears during production Expand

That said, this show is insanely boring, and that’s coming from someone who loves the Fellowship of the Ring, arguably the slowest of the trilogy. The action just doesn't feel grounded in reality and we’re not led to believe the protagonist is ever in any sort of real danger. Yes, I’m aware this is a fantasy show, but good fantasy and Sci-Fi should be grounded in reality to some degree (the way the original movies were). The dialogue is tedious and pseudo-philosophical. It often just sounds pretentious. My wife fell asleep half way through the first episode. Do yourself a favor and just rewatch the movies. Expand

Elfa com ideias feministas, homens frouxos e idiotas, uma raça toda modificada pra agradar um publico pior que os orcs que nem sonhava em nascer. Simplesmente, ridículo. Não merece nem mencionar o nome "senhor dos anéis".

I have not watched the original films in decades, but I remember them as being emotionally impactful and very long.

I will say this about the source material; this is probably the most beloved thing to people who like it, ever. The most towering example of a massive work that enraptured billions of people that has ever existed. If somebody is into this kind of stuff, it is basically the bible. So. Setting out to callously mine this fabled work and thinking you could improve on it, or ignore it, was blunt stupidity.

This new thing. It looks cheap. Period. Something this dependent on special effects better make sure the effects are special. As an old Ray Harryhausen fan I am a person who will watch a product just to enjoy the effects work. Not in this case. Almost all the scenes appear flat and artificial, as though they were wrapped in a blooming plastic. Badly conceptualized and poorly executed, and frequently over lit. If I were told this show were produced by the CW I would believe it.

There is one standout actor in the entire cast. There is a lot of overt face-making, which is not good when you're attempting to suspend disbelief in a silly place like Middle Earth. Inexplicable pauses and eyebrow work do not get the job done (Morfydd Clark seems particularly out of her depth and frantic). I don't need star power at all but there aren't any performers in this show that land, with the exception of Lenny Henry. He is memorable from the moment he appears and the production knows it. Otherwise the actors are cast precisely to "type" and behave as placeholders, delivering shorthand dialog that doesn't stick. There are some sidebar characters who are more interesting that the main cast. Three episodes in and I don't care about anyone's outcome. At this point I am rooting for the Orcs. They are at least clearly motivated and interesting.

I'm bored. And that is the overall problem. There is no weight to any of this. It's the worst thing it could be - Frivolous. It's a rushed experience but among the deluge there is no information to care about. If someone asked what ROP is about I could honestly say I'm not sure. Orcs? Or something. It's as though the people making this had a big movie bowl and tossed things into it without understanding what they represent - hurling "elements" at the audience is not the same thing as constructing a believable place and therein weaving a compelling tale. Oddly their aversion to the old books and movies has not stopped the new project from telling an almost identical story.

One would guess that this group of people got together and had a meeting, and sat around throwing ideas around, and saying things like "Orcs! These guys like Orcs!" or "Swords, we have to get a lot of swords and battles with yelling!", and definitely "Game of Thrones had dragons, let's get dragons!" Film makers either know what they're doing with this kind of High Fantasy world building or they don't. They don't. Also, publicly crapping on the original and the bajillion people who love it was also not a fantastic idea. I suppose that sums it up. Lord of the Rings / Rings of Power has a lot of not fantastic ideas.

Where to begin?
Ah, yes! Rings of Power are a piece of ****
All male characters are idiots and cowards. The script is full of cliches. The casting is miserable. The canon is not observed. And a lot of other bad things.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I watched the first 3 episodes and I was really disappointed. The show was boring with poor dialogues, the costumes, wigs and make up wasn't the best. Galadriel one of the main protagonist of the story is really unbearable and hateful. The music were fine but not on the same level of the previous movies of the lord of the ring. The cgi is good part the warg in episode 3. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do yourself a favor and watch the witcher instead. I didn't mind the first 2 episodes of ring of power because i understand world building and introducing characters, but nothing is happening even after 3 episodes, contrast that to the witcher after 3 episodes and holy **** - Geralt is already the butcher of blaviken, taken on a princess striga, saved by Triss Merigold and spared by the elf king Filavandrel. Ciri arrives at brokilon forest after fleeing Cintra and Yennefer has already gone from a pig feeding hermit to the beautiful, powerful strong willed sorceress that we know and love.

Like i didn't expect it to be on the level of the witcher or to be on it's level for pacing but geez you need to have me invest in something, teasing me with celebrimbor for 10 seconds isn't enough.

I hoped it would be as good as LOTR, but that is too high of a goal, so I lowered my expectations. If I would lower it to match the level of quality of this show I would go through floor and find myself six feet under.

That is also great depiction of entertainment contained in this show. Being burried six feet under would still be more fun, than this boring mess.

Casting was a failure, not because of inclusivity, but because of the unexperienced and dull actors. Some are good enough and others are worse than casting of corporate anti-sexual-harrasment videos.

Writing is unispired, boring, lazy and oh god disrespectfull. Nothing about Tolkien except the names. Total disrespect to the author and the fans, that by now adore his work for more than a half of the century.

CGI, special effects and such are mostly fine, but still seem like a mess, that force to wonder where all the money went.

Music is not fitting and just dissapointing.

Galadriel deserves few words on her own:
Nobody likes Karen behaviour, especially people who like Tolkiens work. Galadriel is portrayed as a arrogant, extremelly unlikable and nothing like in the books.

Lastly about the drama:
Fans aren't mad about the black, or whatever casting. Fans are mad, that amazon lazilly took existing thing and butchered it infront of them, just to make money. People are mad, that the books were thrown out of the window, because to this point every media around Tolkiens work inspired fans to take the book and submerge deeper into its lore. There is nothing Tolkien about this show. If it was made as a whole new show, some fans would loved this. It is just another, not-so-great fantasy show. Calling people racist because of their reviews is arrogant and stupid. Best thing to do, would be to scrap this mess and relaunch it next year with reworked story, effects, music and recasted few WHITE ELVES.
