Reminds me of the first time I saw the movies - stunning sets, intricate costumes, beautiful language and flow of dialogue, complex characters, and a fulfilling look at the world Tolkien created. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

To clarify , i don't care about anyone's skin color. What i care is quality , and there is none. The show is extremely bad. Incompetence all around, especially the writers and directors.

They basically made this a propaganda show with massive and very obvious amounts of modern extremist politics in it.
There is nothing likeable in this show and most people know that.

But then the makers of this show go on TV and social media and claim people who dont like their show, massively attack their actors in racist and misogynistic tirades. They dont realize that with such lies they only prove without a doubt how bad and political their show really is.
But its the same method they have used when they ruined other classic IPs too, like Star Wars, Star Trek, Predator, etc, etc, etc.
Its literally methodic for these people. Blame the fans, even lie about them, instead of admitting they have simply produced complete and utter trash.… Expand

The only reason I am giving 0 points despite the fact the show has cool graphics and stuff is because they are using the actors as shields to defend themselves of the bad reviews and blaming the fans and calling them racists, shame on the showrrunners and shame on webs like this one that are praising it out of nothing, well, out of $$$ to be honest.

Anyway, yeah everything I feared could go wrong in this series, just about is so far. I mean some of the scenery is nice, and a couple characters were decent. But the Elves in general (most everyone not a Dwarf) was insufferable, and bad depictions of fantasy in the Tolkien universe. Is this a late 80's european pop video? The pacing was horrible, soundtrack was poor, dialogue was outright laughable. If you going to spend this much time and money on a project, you better have PROVEN cast and crew to sell it. Not activists, not first timers, and definitely with this kind of money, you better have more rights to the brand to use proper names, races and lore timeline..

The Harfoots are shown as simpletons and the daughter is spiteful of their tradition and worries treating them with a similar lack of respect. Arondir abandons his post and defies his orders. His love interest, Bronwyn abandons her child to go on a potentially dangerous adventure. Every human is depicted as a bigot, every male as toxic, the world is darkness. It is very much the opposite of what Sam said, “There's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fighting for.”… Expand

It appears the writers, director or producers never read or comprehended the works of Tolkien. Just pure Hollyweird PC garbage.
The actors are sub par, the storyline is so far off from Tolkiens work, is should not claim any connection to his works.

Perhaps they will get better in later episodes. Well, I can't prove that. What I saw is some nice CGI, some partly good music and a refreshing diversity even though one needs to mention that female dwarfs, black or white, indeed have beards. But then ... the dialogues, the dialogues are so ridiculous, so abysmal hideous that it pains the viewer and evokes Fremdscham in children-spectators. The characters are shallow, the elves are not distinctive at all, the acting is wooden and the language does not as most elements of the series reflect Tolkien's work. At one point a Harfoot wants to express that she can't communicate with fireflies and says: "I don't speak fireflies" - I'm not kidding you, that's what she said. It's horrible and an insult to intellect of any kind. There are in fact so many flaws that one watches with ones jaw dropped down. Old elves? Tired elves? Elves that move without any grace at all while speaking silly and sloppy english? Galadriel without wisdom and Elrond giving the impression of a clown. What a major sorry effort this is and a shame to be associated with JRR Tolkien. My friend's 12 year old daughter asked why the elves don't speak elvish at all :D… Expand

She has has an incredibly unoriginal set of character traits where she is rebellious, defiant, strong and independent while men dismiss her opinions bla bla bla. I'm expecting any more strong female leads introduced will have the exact same character traits. Please can someone come up with a new character type? These self inserts are not interesting, inspiring or relatable in any way.

It doesn't deserve any marks, no-one involved seems to care about fantasy and they probably laughed at nerds and geeks while growing up for loving something so silly and childish as wizards and magic. I say this because of the total lack of attention to the small details that make a world feel real. It's just so soulless and sterile as scene after scene of nothing comes and goes. And the worst thing is how the character tells the viewer how you are supposed to feel about them. All of their intentions and feelings are explained to you the viewer because you can't be trusted to figure it out for yourself… Expand

Tolkien was such a great writer, any adaptation of his work should be engaging to watch, but amazon's version is ponderous and boring.

Amazon's Elrond is also a snooze fest, but in more meek and mild way to galadriel(he's a bit of a wimp if i'm being honest and i'm convinced it'll stay that way under these current writers).

All we need now is for meteor man to be gandalf and the destruction of famous tolkien characters will be complete(because we know they'll ruin gandalf as well).

The show deliberately subverts Tolkien's Middle-earth into something that reflects Amazon's own vision. Some of the changes were made for obvious political reasons (race-swapping characters), but other changes have no rhyme or reason (why are the elves short haired?)

Elves are such a quintessential, memorable part of Tolkien's Middle-earth, but instead of the beautiful, long-haired elves described by Tolkien, this show gives us LARP elves that are ugly or old, with short hair and bad teeth.

I also need to highlight how cringey the dialog is: It is the worst sort of "As you know, Bob" expository dialog I've ever heard. In order to inform the viewer, characters are constantly talking about things that everyone in the room already knows. Even worse is the linguistic register, which sounds like some schoolkid trying (and failing) to write in a "Ye Olde" Tolkienesque style. Other problems include a main character who is an unlikeable jerk, slapstick comedy that feels out of place, and badly choreographed fight scenes with obvious wirework.

Other reviewers have commended the beautiful scenery and VFX of the show. I agree that the show looks good, but that does not change my 0 rating. I can easily find even more beautiful scenery and VFX -- without the horror of seeing Tolkien despoiled -- by watching a nature documentary or browsing fantasy paintings online.… Expand

There is little to like about this show so far, and that little is mostly contained within the landscape shots. Also there are some scenes of actual good acting in this show, but more on that later.
Now for the negatives:

Now for the negatives:
1) The story is sometimes hard to follow due to some neglected plotpoints. Example: The elves consider returning to Valinor a great honor but it is never explained why they don't all go back at once (in the books its because they were banished but this goes unmentioned in the show).
2) The actors are really struggling with the script. A script which includes more pseudo-philosophical methaphors that don't work half the time instead of some genuine relatable dialog. I remember being captivated by the interactions of the Fellowship in the LOTR-movies but here its just boring and hollow...and the actors seem really uncomfortable saying those lines.
3) The character designs. Did you ever notice that in the PJ-movies each realm (Gondor, Rohan, Imladris, Lorien, Dwarfs, Haradrim, Easterlings) has a very distinct style of clothing and hair? Like the people of Rohan are tall with unkempt and brighter hair-colors and a brown-green color scheme and the gondorians are rather dark-haired with more silver-blue clothing. In this show all styles are mixed across elves and men and even withing those cultures which does not give a strong sense of identity to them.
4) Celebrimbor looks way older than Galadriel eventhough he is a lot younger. Weirdly enough some elves actually look rather old, despite the fact that they should possess some form of ageless beauty. The weird hairstyles do not help in that regard.
5) Just to emphasise this point again, the dialogue is just weird. Characters are saying lines instead of talking to each other. Also some appear to be braindead: e.g. Galadriel finds a clue to Sauron still being around and EVERYONE dismisses it. Even Gil-Galad who sanctioned her very mission to look for said clue just brushes it aside. People are complaining that Galadriel is unlikeable in this series, but I kinda can relate because every character she interacts with is just a douche for the sake of it.… Expand

Now they get exactly the same reward as the computer games that tried to push this bc, unhappy majority. In return instead of accepting the feedback and acting accordingly they blame MAJORITY of ppl for not being woke enough. If not the savings I get on the parcels, just for this show I would cancel my subscription. Few years back I cancelled my ***flix account for shoving this bs down my throat. Now Amazon tries to do it even more often. I do hope this shows flops in a ways worth mentioning for the years to come.… Expand

What a travesty and insult to one of my beloved book series. Are you guys done with destroying all our fav franchises? from Last Air bender years ago, to Cowboy Bebop, to Wheel of Time and now LOTR? Absolute deviation from the lore and character apart, whatever is in the movie, be it a canon or non canon character, are so one dimensional and flat in their personality, that one wonders if you actually paid for any script writer in the first place.

And the rubbish plot and the changes they made to the character ... Elron nothing but a weak chin idiot? Galadriel abandon her guise of wisdom and became a freaking stupid warrior that CANNOT even command her own troops properly? Where even early Conan looks like a tactical genius compared to her? What load of stupid changes. And people think that is an "improvement"??? Seriously?

And there are so many other aspect of this show that are just utter rubbish but I will stop here before I have to resort to unspeakable vulgarities against these idiots who ruined another great series.

So half a star for the special effect and nothing more. And I will probably be cancelling the amazon prime account since .. first of all, I almost never buy anything from Amazon and second, this is unforgivable after the utter failure that is WHEEL of Time adaptable, again by Amazon.

Auch wenn man mit der Serie Tolkiens Werke neu interpretieren wollte und auch darf, verlangt so ein großes Universum mit so einer Lore einen gewissen Respekt der ganzen Erzählung gegenüber. 20Jahre Peter Jackson und 3 Epische Filme später soll das das Erbe sei? Hier wird soviel mit Füssen getreten nur damit fundamentale Dinge geändert werden einzig und allein des Ändern willen. Wieso kann man gute Dinge nicht einfach gut sein lassen? Y a todo esto le sumamos al horrendo marketing que le dio Amazon a la serie, con los actores de este aborto audiovisual señalando lo inclusiva que sería la serie (como si en la fantasía cualquier película fuera eso lo mas importante) dio como resultado esta porquería putrefacta que se cuelga cual sanguijuela del nombre de Tolkien para sacar dinero.

Yo recomiendo a la gente que no vea esta porquería y rehúyan de ella como la peste, así tal vez Jeff Bezos la piense dos veces antes de hacer una cochinada WOKE y use esos mil millones que tiro al caño en injertarse pelo o en cualquier otra cosa.

Me gustaba mas la idea que se tenía en un principio de mostrar los viajes de Aragon por toda tierra media ¿Por qué no siguieron con esta idea? Yo recomiendo a Jeff Bezos correr a los dos showruuners y poner gente mas competente que intente salvar esta serie. ¡AH! Y me olvide de señalar lo único bueno: El CGI… Expand

Great visuals, story arc is a little mediocre, but fun to watch so far, its just Tolkien inspired, not written, so its probably expected. Cast is more diverse than in the films and it suits the show. 3 just for graphic.
It looks close to unreal engine 5 demos and I like UE5. So just with love to graphic.
Regarding music... I don't know. Was there some music? I didn't recall after 2 series. Regrading dialogues. First of its hard to3 just for graphic.

Episode 2 was better than the first, and the dwarves feel more authentic than the elves, but that’s not saying much. The dwarven rock crushing ritual of sigin-tarag, seriously? That kinda stuff might get a pass in Klingon fan fiction. AndEpisode 2 was better than the first, and the dwarves feel more authentic than the elves, but that’s not saying much. And dwarves live 300+ years, so the whole where’ve-you-been-for-20-years Durin/Elrond spat disrespects canon. I liked Princess Disa, Durin’s wife. “He’s staying for dinner” is the best scene to date, but that kinda underlines my fundamental beef with this series: JRRT wrote almost nothing about female dwarves, so I’ll give the showrunners leeway, and they did a good job with it. But where Tolkien did write things, you have to stay true to his vision, or it’s not Middle-earth.

As a generic non-Tolkien fantasy, RoP might be passable - there’s surely worse fantasy out there - but then why pay million$ for the rights?… Expand

Worse than expected, which shouldn't have been possible. Every single aspect of the just wrong. The timeline has been "compressed", meaning that literal thousands of years are now crammed into roughly a single human lifetime. Characters have been relocated in the world and the timeline, and others have been "adapted" into entirely new characters. Entire arcs have been discarded and others wholly invented. Simply put, this is not Galadriel, this is not the Second Age, and this is not Tolkien's Middle-Earth. Worse still, even if you remove every reference to Tolkien, you'd still have a fantasy show more incompetent and less coherent than the 8th season of Game of Thrones.… Expand
