So far so good, meeting to expectations to tolkien fans. Tolkien world is completely different from other authors work, there are so many stories happening in single world and prime is portraying them just perfect. One ring to rule them all!!!

Great production. The photograpy of the series is brilliant, it has changed the scale and the way to watch fantasy series. The actors are very good, all clearly embrace their roles and knew how to bring to fans new and old their roles.

About the story itself, it has a rhythm tempo, increasing in grandeur and events near the end, very much like what happens in the books of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.

Yes, there are changes/adaptations of the Lore de Tolkien. But, I liked the adaptations, they are very well made and necessary, in view of the copyright acquired only from the Second Age, appendages and Third Age.

It's sad when a work like this ends endlessly, I'm already looking forward to the next episodes.

All the people complainingGave it a 10 because of all of the insanely low and unjustified ratings but in reality is a 7.9 for me. The show is definitely not perfect but it met my expectations and brought fantasy TV to another level for me. All the people complaining and hating without constructive criticism are just missing on the fact that they have the opportunity to revisit middle earth in a glorious way. The craftsmanship of this show is off the charts. Personally, I like a slow paced show that takes it's time for world building and character development, which this show gave to me, though I'll admit some scenes got dragged out. Wasn't such a big problem for me, personally. Overall, I'm eagerly waiting for season 2 after that great finale and I'm pretty confident it will be a step up. The story, places and characters have been woven, and the finale gets us to a point in the storyline where every plot is focused, and moving forward. Expand

I really don’t get it. I expected to hate this based on the reviews. It started a little slow while setting up characters in the first 2-3 episodes and now I just finished the fifth and love it. Looking forward to putting kids to bed to watch more.

It's a story about unique, at times unlikely and even more rarely unfortunate friendships between characters. It's a story about pride, greed, deception, and fantastical marvels to be achieved. It's the best place to get a glimpse on Valinor, the Undying Lands, Lindon, Eregion, Kha-za-dum, Numenor and Mordor to name a few - placed that weren't exceptionally well if at all covered in Peter Jackson's films. Amazing acting in place by the actors of Galadriel, Durin, Elrond, Disa, Adar, Aldir and many others. Underappreciated gem in the TV history. A must see! Expand

The production value and plotting are excellent, and the casting is on point. Morfydd Clark as Galadriel provides one of the best performances in a fantasy role in a long time, and will likely be seen as her breakout role for years to come.

As someone who grew up reading everything Tolkien, this show has reawakened my love for Middle Earth in adulthood. For the first time in decades, I find myself wanting to dive back into Unfinished Tales and the History of Middle Earth, as the show has done such a great job of putting a new spin and making a coherent narrative out of the various drafts and letters written by Tolkien about the Second Age.

The fact that this show is clearly planned to occur over several seasons, with a strong commitment, is also clear, as the plots we saw in Season 1 are sowing the seeds for future growth and development. Hoping there isn't too long of a wait for Season 2!

I have seen hours of conservative video about how woke and bad this was going to be. I started the first episode chanting "No woke, no woke, no woke" and after 2 episodes I found nothing I would call woke. I fell into the fantasy by the second scene. IMO, if this wasn't so negatively hyped we would not see these ratings. Characters. The main character, Galadriel, is quickly unlikeable but not in a accidental way. She is obsessed with a coming darkness, and so isn't lovable and care free. The only mistake I can see so far is here trying to swim what would be the Atlantic ocean. The hobbits don't like what we expect, but they are just coming out, they are in hiding and in fear. They had their fancy clean homes in the shire because the rangers protected them. The dwarves were awesome. Music. Good, but not memorable. No memorable themes.

Dialogue. The dialogue is good, with the occasional poetic and dire lines which come off well and what you would expect in a Tolkien story. Woke. The only thing you could call woke is the fact that there are races you do not expect. That said, Tolkien built his world around our own, with Europe as middle earth. It is not a stretch to imagine our own races would be there as Tolkien included Arabic people in the world. Why wouldn't dwarves and elves go through whatever made the various races. The whole world loves Tolkien, and they want to see themselves in what is going on. I don't think it's being politically correct, I think it's just opening the world up for more people to put themselves into it. This review is my opinion based on the first 2 episodes.

The show is so entertaining, all the dialogue and character moments are so charming and enthralling, and it does not shy away from showing elements of the world with the gravitas and weight they were meant to have, despite how silly they may seem outside of their context, making the show that much more endearing. The effects are beautiful, the cinematography is excellent, and the fight choreography is surprisingly well put together and brutal at times, and no moment so far of the show has been a disappointment, so I highly and wholeheartedly recommend it. As a fan of Tolkien's world, in writen and movie form, I really enjoy seeing Middle Earth during a time where the world has not fallen into piecesThree episodes in and I have to say I'm pleasently surprised. It's a pretty good show so far. As a fan of Tolkien's world, in writen and movie form, I really enjoy seeing Middle Earth during a time where the world has not fallen into pieces yet, the civilizations are still grand and majestic. And they really know how to show this off, as we have many moments where the show just presents us a new city and let's us take in their size and grandure. I also really like the overall plot. It's a smart approach, how they managed to put together different plot lines that are very character-focused and have secrets and question marks, even for fans of the book. And despite the extrem complexity of the books this show has been adapted from, they manage to break down the lore in a way that it is understandable and digestable for newcommers. And I really, really appreciate the fact, that they manage to keep the dialogues and characteres grounded and believable as part of their world. My major worry has been that they would try to make all the dialogues and characters "witty", a sickness that has grown over skript-writing ever since Marvel started to become the big player in franchise-production with their Superhero-characters. But no such thing! It's not, that the skript is entirely without humor or fun, it's just more low-key and fits the tone of the world really well. The weaker points of the show so far has been some of the characters. Three episodes in, and there is a huge gap between some of the more likable characters with a lot of personality and some more... let's generously call them "bland" characters. And given that, as I mentioned before, the individual plot lines are very character driven, it's a problem that some characters really are not up to the task yet to really carry their scenes. Another issue after three episodes is, that... not much seems to have happened so far. Given that these three episodes come together to a total of over 3 hours (or approximatelly the length of one of Peter Jackson's movies in the same world), it really doesn't feel like a whole lot has happened yet. I don't mind a slow burn, but if you have several plot lines running parallel, it would be good to have at least SOME of them be a bit differently paced. However, I have to say that I am pleasently surprised. It's a pretty damn good translation of Tolkien's world onto the screen and a solid attempt of creating an engaging narrative for a rather difficult part of the history of this universe. If it keeps going in this way, I will end up really enjoying myself. So far, I would absolutely recommend it! Expand

i am a fan of tolkien books and i absolutely loved the show! yes, there are a lot of changes, but the actors play well and the script looks logical. interesting disclosure of characters, cool interactions, stunning picture.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent writing, acting, and cinematography. All the bad reviews are just whining nerds that are angry that it's not a one-to-one translation from Tolkien. It's an excellent, and entertaining show with incredible production value.

There's nothing about this show that strikes me as politically charged. With that out of the way, I'd say this is definitely worth a watch. The set design and overall aesthetics is breath-taking. It's awe-inspiring the landscapes, architectural design, costumes, everything! They obviously put a great deal of work and thought into this and they tried to include all the important bits from what is known of Tolkien's works.

However, there are some changes that some might not agree with. In these situations, as long as it's not such a large change that it is a completely different story, I don't mind. The question that always arises for me is simple: Is it a good story and enjoyable?

To both, I'd say unequivocally, yes. Very much so. The characters are fantastic and you get to see the pieces moving about where they were only talked about in books/stories/movies/etc.

The casting is top notch with very little that I'd disagree with or have changed. The dialogue is also excellent.

My ONLY real problem with this is that the show's pacing is a bit slow. They could've easily accomplished telling the same story in half or even a third of the time. It falls prey to consistently wallowing in it's own set design with gratuitous panning shots and setting up of scenes that were, in essence, already set up.

This is a pretty minor 'crime' however and in all honesty, if you enjoy the LOTR movies or the books, this will be enjoyable for all excluding contrarians. (And when do you EVER please them, really?)

7.5/10 with only a bump up to 8 because simply put: It was very enjoyable.

P.S. One last note: Ignore the people who say it doesn't 'match up with lore'. Not every single aspect needs to match a book. If the story is enjoyable and entertained you while managing to accomplish the overall result of the original story, then shaddup about 'lore this' and 'lore that'. Just enjoy it on it's own merits

I have seen The Lord of the Rings films over 40 times and read the books over 5 times and I am happy with this series so far. Is it by-the-book Tolkien? No. It has original story lines. THAT'S OK. IT'S FUN. It is NOT woke, it just has diversity. It's NOT A BIG DEAL. Yes, there are Hobbits, but they're likable and add humor. The scenery and landscapes are beautiful, the music is good and the acting is great as well. Can we just enjoy the fact that we are back in Middle-Earth?

Nothing can or will be perfect, but this show is honestly not so bad. If you hate Amazon/big corporations, think everything is woke, or just plain can't stand diversity then get over it and watch something else. The fact that this show doesn't use nudity or have any f-bombs in this day and age is amazing. As for me, I will continue watching it and enjoying it, because after all it is JUST A TV SHOW.

I think that in the end, the creators did end up creating a very compelling and impressive first season, even if I did take issue with some of the decisions. Many of the elements did stand out to me, the music, production design, and visual effects were all very impressive, and helped to sell this is as a part of Middle Earth. I was surprised to see how much stylistically Rings of Power took from the Peter Jackson films, but I think this was a good choice as it makes it feel familiar, even though this show is by a different studio and directors. I think the storylines are overall very well set up, and provide variety to the tone and settings. There are quite a few changes to the lore, but I feel that most of them were justified for fitting the story into a television format. I hope with future seasons Rings of Power continues to improve, it's not uncommon for a show to really come into it's own in the 2nd season and I think that's a very likely outcome here. Expand

Review after Ep. 6:
The biggest hook of the series is the visuals. Especially the design of orcs, various armor sets, the Haarfoots and Numenor is just terrific. Often times the series hits that LotR feeling with epic landscape shots and well cut montages. Another highlight is the dynamic between Durin and Elrond which is very reminiscent of Gimli and Legolas. While many feel the dialog to be cringy, I do think it delivers that Tolkien feeling quite well. The story takes its time to develop, with a bit too much time spent in Numenor (especially ep. 5 feels a bit redundant), but I still think the pace is adequate.
The biggest downside is the issue of certain developments feeling rushed. You're meant to believe the damaged friendship between Durin and Elrond to be fully mended, when actually not enough time has passed for that to happen. Or you're meant to believe the chancellor's son and Elendil's daughter falling in love, when in actuality they just met. Other times it feels like certain scenes are left out and you're expected to connect the dots yourself.
All in all it's a great watch though and I'm excited for each new episode.

I went into this also with reservations, but I've found myself warming up to the series and enjoying it (though, yes, the first 10-15 minutes have some terrible writing, I'm thinking of you "stone and ship"). Visually it brings out much of the magic and splendor of Middle-earth, and while the story might be a bit slow, I don't mind taking time to get anywhere with the excellent soundtrack of Bear McCreary (the composer of God of War) lifting you along the way. Sure, it is made by Amazon and is at times inconsistent with Tolkein lore, but neither of these detract from the series as a show or experience in itself. Also, Durin is a mood and I love his character.

TL;DR: hardly as “woke” as people make it out to be, and above all a good show that is worth watching

The series really lies somewhere between a 7 and an 8 (as of episode 2) but sadly the show has become the target of “anti-woke” review bombers with an alarming amount of time on their hands. I urge people to actually watch the show and form their own opinion outside of the online conservative echo chamber.

Any worries I had about the show were eased after the first episode, and the series shows tremendous promise, alongside stunning visuals and some great performances.

When studios take liberties with and even contradict the established lore, alarm bells understandably ring in many heads, including my own. But then I think about the Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War games, two outstanding games (microtransactions aside). I also take comfort in knowing that I can simply acknowledge and ignore any inconsistencies, because an interpretative spin-off is just that, and nothing more. The driving force behind these negative reviews is less the holding of Tolkien’s lore as sacred, and more an ideological disdain for anything perceived as overly PC. I do think there are many shows that do overdo it in this regard with little else to offer, but Rings of Power is not this. These characters happen to be ethnic minorities, but they are far from talentless actors shoehorned in to fit an agenda. For example, in his portrayal of the harfoot Sadoc Burrows, Lenny Henry perfectly encapsulates the beloved, humble disposition of the Hobbits we grew to adore over the course of Tolkien’s masterpiece.

In essence, this is a good but far from perfect show, which any sane person can see succeeds far more as a tribute to Tolkien’s beautiful world than a personal attack on conservatives. Watch and judge for yourself. Don’t get sucked in by the mob.

The problem here is more systemic than just one show, though it definitely shows blaringly on Rings of Power given the sheer scope of the shows budget and marketing.

Fundamentally, this has to do with arrogant elitists who are self obsessed with "re-creating" society according to their own ideological concepts, and in so doing are making the intentional decision to take over and bastardize established cultural mainstays for their own purposes, it's a pure power move. This has absolutely nothing to do with Tolkien or providing an actual quality product.

I did real that people were concerned that Galadriel acted differently than she did in LOTR. Of course she does. Its been 5k+ years plus she hasn't even been in possession of a ring of power yet.

What we have is literally multiple blockbusters production values poured ad nauseum into this series. However, that aside, it actually has a bare boned plot, with characterization that is as straight forward as it is. In comparison to the more low key, House of the Dragon, it pales in term of that. But there is a professional problem with the Rings of Power TV series story and writing. The bad pace, the dull story idea (no spoilers), and of course, how Galadriel, who is supposed to be a few thousand years old, behaves like a teenager which makes her unbelievable, in regard of her age. The graphics are great. But if you compare the writing, even the jokes, to a film like, say, Fargo, you'll notice why film critics complain rather about the writing alone. So, overall, it is okay. I have to admit, I got a bit emotional venturing into middle-earth again, they really have got the "feel" right especially compared to the PJ movies. Look forward to more, hopefully it keeps up the high quality. Expand

This is by no means a zero. It's a C+ fantasy show. Folks whinging about black elves and dwarves need to realize this is what's happening. Either get on board or be left on the outside.

С оригиналом знаком. Есть расхождения, но как фанфик - пока нормально. Красиво. Жду продолжения, посмотрим, что будет дальше.

1.9 rating is what happens when people review bomb. The show is better from what the reviews here are portraying it has. Watch it, enjoy and keep politics out of it.

I have not read the books but have enjoyed RoP thus far. Not sure why all the hate. A good story takes time to tell and they need to build up the world first before diving in head first. Give it till the end of season 1 before you can really know.
