Reminds me of the first time I saw the movies - stunning sets, intricate costumes, beautiful language and flow of dialogue, complex characters, and a fulfilling look at the world Tolkien created. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

As a lifelong Tolkien devotee I just had to counter the unrelenting review bombers out there. Yes, liberties are taken with the source material. Then again, the source material and the second age lend themselves perfectly for it. Regardless:As a lifelong Tolkien devotee I just had to counter the unrelenting review bombers out there. Regardless: the production values, the sweeping vistas of Valinor and Middle Earth. The acting. I was immersed and entertained. I even put up with Lenny Henry as a hobbit! Well, Harfoot. The haters gonna hate I guess. I was somewhat apprehensive myself at first. But the racist vitriol in some of the reviews! This is Tolkien in our firm for all humanity to enjoy. As Tolkien''s Saga goes: it is timeless, but adapted to be more inclusive. It does not bother me. We live in the present, not in 1950's Oxford. I only wish they would throw all that cash at an anthology series of The Silmarillion. That would be my dream show! Keep going Amazon!… Expand

A decent start.

So far so good, only out the 1st 2 episodes but was a pleasant surprise yet. That being said: To be fair, possibly not everyone will like as much as I do. But I do not like to RELIVE again the same story what I already knowA decent start.

Ich erwartete ja beim ersten Reinschauen CGI Schlachten und Benchmarks, jedoch wird einem hier herrliches Material akribisch erzählt und es ist schön zu sehen, wie ein Faden nach dem anderen zusammengeführt wird. Als mehrfacher Leser der Bücher wurde ich hier jetzt schon lang und satt bedient. Die Hobbits alleine schon sind ein ganzes (großes) Kapitel wert. So habe ich sie mir immer vorgestellt beim Lesen der Bücher. Zwar ist noch nicht klar, was und wer da alles noch kommt, jedoch mache ich jetzt schon mal Platz im Regal für diese Serie, sollte sie mal als UHD oder ggf. BluRay erscheinen. 4K und DolbyAtmos machen zudem auch das Heimkino-Herz glücklich. Bild und Ton sind phänomenal gut! Fantastische Geschichte, tolle Schauspieler-Auswahl und der Score ist gigantisch (Jeder Abspann hat ein eigenes Stück!). Ich war sehr positiv geflasht und bedanke mich erneut bei Amazon und dem gesamten Produzenten-Team für diesen genialen Wurf. Top!… Expand

First of all, I really appreciate people defending all the professor's astonishing job. Tolkien did form the way we imagine all fantasy worlds. It may be inaccurate to the original lore but please remember that the show is based on original writings, not a word-by-word interpretation. With all that said, just enjoy the story and characters and skip these negative thoughts. It's a perfect reason to celebrate the Middle-earth and appreciate the work of Tolkien and all talented and hardworking people behind the show. I'll give 10 in order to achieve the balance because this show deserves much more than 0s of angry fans.… Expand

show looks great, characters are compelling and easy to feel connected to. i read the hobbit, lotr, and silmarillion 25 years ago so you'll have to forgive my memory but i have no problem with this show fitting withinit's just TV sheesh

Wonderful imagery, storytelling and music. Even though it is more of a "saga" so far and less raw than the LOTR movies, and differs from the original Tolkien writings(which even LOTR did BTW), I feel like it still delivers a true Middle Earth experience with the same world, imagery, ideas and cultural differences as I grew up to love. I love especially the music since it isn't a copy of the LOTR score but still has a similar feeling. Screw the criticism and just enjoy a good, EXPENSIVE show! If I'd want to criticize I could but I'd rather go on an adventure and see where this goes.

I'm hooked and I want to be.

I think it is epic!

The only thing I find annoying about this show is the volume of the music which forces me to sit with the remote for turning the volume down and up.

This series is a masterpiece that even exceeds the trilogy and maybe, dare I to say even exceeds the books. Although I might assume Tolkien have intended his books and his imaginative world would have been visualized as in this series, but IThis series is a masterpiece that even exceeds the trilogy and maybe, dare I to say even exceeds the books. Although I might assume Tolkien have intended his books and his imaginative world would have been visualized as in this series, but I think even he would not have imagined it could have been this great. The series is well casted, character development well thought out. The overall feel of the authentic Tolkien world experience have been wonderfully captured on screen both with CGI and wonderful story telling and screenplay writing. Even the orcs have personalities, which in the trilogy movie by Peter Jackson the orcs were depicted as mindless beasts, in the tv series they actually have personalities of their own. There are liberties taken to add a diversity of actors from different ethnicities, but that didn't bother me and didn't do the story wrong, as Tolkiens world is fantasy, nobody ever said the different places belongs to certain ethnicities, as like in our own world it would be logical that there a diversity of races and ethnicties. And furthermore all the actors were not placed there only to add diversity, they did a wonderful job depicting their roles! For me this is the epitome of storytelling and I am eager to watch more of this!… Expand

I always have the books and legendarium to satisfy my love of Tolkien and is what I prefer above anything else. But this show is fun to explore and gives an imaginative perspective of Tolkienania that feels true to his spirit while giving me things to rethink some of my own entrenched ideas and imagination. All I really hope for at this point is to see a version of Tom Bombadil to show up somehow next season.… Expand

I really don't understand the negative reviews! I watched the first episode as a Lord of the Rings fan and am very pleased with how the character of the literature and especially the films has been preserved. If the series were just like the movies, it would be boring! I personally think that no matter what Amazon would have produced, people here would have complained and cried about it. That was clear in advance! And then the new variation in skin tones seems to be a main complaint. I'm losing my faith! Lord of the Rings is a work of fiction, detached from the bonds of the earth. Just because skin color is often tied to a specific culture in our world doesn't mean it has to be the case in this series. Humans are not bound to a particular cultures because of their physique, but because of history. The world of Lord of the Rings has a history of its own though, so why would there be **** racial segregation??? And just because it was more monotonous in the previous films and books, luckily it doesn't have to be the same in newer works! Art just keeps evolving!

If you can't handle that, at least don't try to spoil the fun of the series for others! Almost everything I see here is driven by hate. Keep the hate for yourself, I don't need it! I'm not a native English speaker, but I still hope I was able to make my point clear.… Expand

It will have flaws (Jackson’s movies were perfect and flawed) they will deviate from the source material (Jackson’s movies did not follow the source material either) but it will be amazing, just as the Jackson trilogy. I did not expect anything good from the series after the trailer and promotional photos. I expected the same piece of crap as the Witcher from Netflix and Amazon's Wheel of Time. As a fan who loved the films as an intro to Tolkien and doesn’t need an adaption to be a perfect 1:1 production of the books I love this show. Seeing all the locations of the show in their primes is something as a fan I’ve always wanted to see. The characters of Elrond, Durin, Halbrand, Disa and Elendil are the main standouts. With special recognition to Elron, Elendil and Durin. Galadriel as a character is in line with her description in the unfinished tales and her arc looks to be a slow burn into who she later becomes by the 3rd age. The Harfoots are written in a way where you can see their similarity to what would eventually become Hobbits

The show looks amazing. Visually, probably the best thing ever put on TV. This includes vistas, effects, prosthetics, cinematography etc. Not much more has to be said.

In terms of plot, the intro episodes are a lot of world building. If that’s your thing this is going to hit for you. If you want to kinda just get straight to the action then the slow burn might not be your thing. The show is weaving essentially a part of LOTR history that didn’t get a full novel. More so notes and key events and dates. So all the in between are being written for the show. I don’t think anything has been changed more or less than how the films did the novels. And what they have added, fits in the universe well. All in all, as a LOTR fan since the late the early 00s this show is awesome and fits right into where I keep the movies. If you’re overly strict on being *exactly* like the book or an impatient viewer in the beginning you’re selling yourself short.… Expand

As a reader of Tolkien books plus the books edited by his son (from "Silmarillion" to "Fall of Gondolin") I find these series as a homage to all of these fantastic works. As for the hate these series have recieved, I find it's a social trend to critizice what others do with little reason at all, just the "fashion" to follow what's fun. In their minds, there is an agenda behind everything and "a secret empire" is trying to brainwash them, so they sell themselves as "social warriors" to impress simple minds. Returning to the show, beautiful Telperion and Laurelin! very nice to see hobbits there, Galadriel trying to fit her own moral standards is epic to see (no Celeborn, though). Seeing a dwarven famly is a gift for some of us who have used dwarves in role playing games and miniature wargames. I can't wait for the next episode!… Expand

Visually amazing. The images are gorgeous. I had not seen such an extensive production design and art in a television series. Good show, good pace so far. Not boringly action-packed like a marvel movie, and not a snore fest either. It's laying out the foundation of an interesting story. It doesn't show gore or sex for the sake of it. It looks and sounds great.

La tensión en el argumento es sutil pero penetrante y la caracterización de los personajes muy equilibrada y “real”.

Además, no es una de esas series que están muy de moda ahora e intentan captar tu atención haciendo escenas casi todo el rato muy oscuras, con erotismo, con sensacionalismo o con una música y sonidos estresantes para mantenerte en tensión continuamente.
Esta serie tiene tanta calidad que no necesita nada de eso para captar tu atención.

El que haya diferentes colores de piel y mujeres con mucho protagonismo no sólo no me molesta, sino que además me gusta. Me he leído los libros de Tolkien ¿qué tiene de malo mejorarlos o permitir expresarlos con otros valores? No es Tolkien quien hace la película. Cada persona que trabaja en ella suma algo más a la expresión de Tolkien. Así todo se vuelve más rico.

Para que se me pueda entender mejor diré que también me gustan las películas históricas y de la época medieval y si no se refleja en ellas el 100% de la época, no me importa. Si quiero el 100%, me leo un libro de ensayo sobre ese tema y ya está. Pero si quiero una peli, quiero relajarme y disfrutar al máximo viéndola. Y para ello necesito identificarme, entenderla y adentrarme en la peli. Esto me resulta más fácil lograrlo si la adaptan algo a mi mentalidad y estilo de vida actual.
Así es como yo lo vivo.

A parte de que es una serie de fantasía ideal para verla repetidas veces, dada su gran calidad.
Vamos, que por lo que ya se ha publicado de esta serie, la recomiendo al completo.

Y escribo esta reseña al escuchar de las sorprendente cantidad de críticas negativas que ha recibido por aspectos sociales y legales que no cinematográficos. Quiero que se sigan haciendo películas de esta calidad, que cada vez más falta hacen.… Expand

If you're a fan of fantasy, just go in and enjoy the world building and the story development. It'll take time to introduce new characters. Americans just want every episode to have action or to end in some cliffhanger. For a fantasy series to explore as much as possible of its world, it needs time. You can't expect the action of a 3hr movie in a 8+ hr series (or possibly more, if there are more seasons to come). I've watched foreign series from Asia that are 40 hour+ long and it takes a while for the story to develop and there may be a lot of miscellaneous mini-adventures or non-essential story lines mixed in, but in the end, things feel epic. I have no worries about this series at its current rate. Looking forwards to more of it!… Expand

The excitement and suspense is what's driving this show. Character development is solid and the cast members perform believable, and engaging, roles. The fight scenes revealed so far are unexpectedly more disturbing than what was seen in director Peter Jackson's films. Parental guidance is recommended for sure. The visual scale of the show is very realistic and breath-taking. The Elven Kingdoms of Lindon and Eregion; the subterranean Dwarven realm of Khazad-dum; the Edain kingdom of Numenor; and the overall beautiful landscape scenery; all completely stunning, and marvelous, in their own ways. The stunning imagery will have you admiring what the show-runners have presented us. Bear McCreary's musical score is spot on and can become very moving in many scenes. I'm completely sold on this show. So far so good. And despite some deviations to Tolkien's lore, it seems the show-runners and writers are doing the best they can with what rights they have to Tolkien's Second Age source material. Much of the lore is still there, while even the creative liberties capture the spirit of Tolkien's writings. I'm looking forward to more episodes. From someone who has been a lifelong Tolkien fan, and approached this series with the highest level of caution, I was impressed! My expectations were exceeded.… Expand

I have been waiting for this series for a long time now and I have to say I am not disappointed on it. The story is intriguing and not a typical plot that is 100% predictable, I can say it’s actually had me on the edge of the sofa more than once. Really wondering what is going to happen in the story and genuinely intrigued about the motives and desires of the characters. They are complex enough to make you feel like they are real, they have their own agenda but at the same time have loyalty. The story is complicated enough to keep your interest without making you want to pause and rewind which can sometimes happen with sagas. It has the right amount of drama, thrill, mystery, fantasy, adventure and even a bit of romance (without being cheesy).… Expand
