I enjoyed the characters they introduced, even if they sort of simplified them compared to the game. I thought the episode was great as a standalone episode.

However, it felt a little slow and shoehorned into the series. We spent the episode, 1/8 of the entire series, learning about two characters who we never meet again or who really have any other impact on the narrative. And they sort of just had a fairytale ending, which is fine, but cheapens the story IMO compared to the game.… Expand

Al no adaptarse el 100% a la historia lo que importa es los fines de los personajes el propósito tanto en el juego como en la serie es darle a Joe transporte y mostrar lo que Joe podría haber sido si seguía el paso de Bill solo imaginen si se mostraba con puras notas como en el juego el romance ademas se hace mucha mención en el juego de la clase de vida que hay que llevar a pesar de la pandemia aquí es lo mismo solo un pequeño reflejo de calma antes de la tormenta… Expand

I like the fact that they've shown us the story of Bill and Frank thoroughly, because in game we just read notes and have some dialogs and it was very interesting to see how they lived prior to the period. The only thing I did not like is that Bill and Frank went to a relationship this fast. I would prefer to see how they grew closer to each other throughout some time, considering the fact that Bill is not a person who trusts easily and the timing is the worst (but probably the best for them lol :)… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's hilarious seeing the hate for this episode. For people thinking this is 'woke,' a reminder that Bill is gay in the game... For people complaining it adds nothing to the story, we spend the first two episodes trying to get our hands on a car battery to make the long trek across the country. Bill's story, along with his unique relationship with Tess/Joel, results in them securing that vehicle. It's a major plot point. For complaints about the amount of screen time, there are 9 episodes in season one. They have to expand on characters to further develop the world, to show the tragedy of everyday life in and out of the QZ. That also means they're going to draw out combat and clickers and all that so it achieves the maximum effect for the TV medium. This isn't a video game anymore. If you want the old game there are literally three different versions you can go replay as many times as you'd like. I'll place bets that in S2 we get a deeper view into Lev's life prior to meeting Abby and 100% all of these same hateful people will come crawling out from their caves to claim it's "trans-washing" or whatever foolish criticism they can mask their internal hatred with. This episode was beautifully written, well acted, and played an important part in the series: break up some of the Joel/Ellie time and use the Bill/Frank romance and modified conclusion to their story as a means of reminding Joel just how important finding a purpose is. We know, based on the way the episode wraps, that he's slowly warming to the notion that Ellie may be that purpose. If you're blinded to that because you're made so uncomfortable by two bearded men making out, then stop watching now because a majority of this cast is part of the LGBTQ+ community. And if you didn't know that, you didn't really understand the game or the story.… Expand

Wasted an hour of my life because I was made to beliave that I am about to watch last of us, after fist 10 minutes of Joel an El there was nothing and I mean not a siggle thing as mit was in a game ad it was done poorly, w got to see two guys live and then die off screen in the end, isntead we could have had Bill and El encounter which was easily one of the best moments in the game, but no we get this? An hour of nothing, if you skip this episode it will have no impact on past or future travels of Joel and El. I am not even loooking forward to the next episode ... trash… Expand

It marks the first major change from the source material, expanding the stories of Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) in such breathtaking fashion that there is no question of the cast and crew’s dedication. Offerman in particular shines, keeping the viewer enthralled despite the slow pace.

That’s where some of my criticism lies. After two episodes of nicely balanced tension and action, Long Long Time brings the pace to a crawl, opting to tell a story that, while an emotional rollercoaster, does little to advance the series’ core plot and sidelines Joel and Ellie just as Joel’s armour begins to crack.

We didn't see Ellie's life before Joel, but we watched the gay story of the minor character in great detail. The whole series is needed to please a certain caste of people. I like the fact that they changed the race of Joel's daughter and that she is black now ! Pedro Pascal is really good as Joel also.

The only "bad" thing that I could think of is that sometimes, I'm not sure why, in some shots, Bella Ramsey makes me think of Gollum from The Lord of The rings... it's maybe from the way she moves or something.… Expand

Why was this episode made, there is literally nothing to the development of the main plot.
Far too much Bill and Frank, whose relationship, nor their manner, has no relevance to Joel and Elie. Especially in view of such a big change from the game, where in the series by Bill and Frank's suicide, we don't meet them at all in the main plot . And it doesn't hold water for me at all, looking at the origin story of Tess herself, whom we didn't actually get in the series, and she was a much more important character both for the audience and for the two main characters.… Expand

Spending the entire episode on Bill and Frank's new made up story was not a great use of screentime. I love how they gave more humanity to Frank's death as comapred to how he died in the game, but cutting out Bill's town, the graveyard zombies, and the bloater fight for this gay showcase was really unnecessary. Three quarters of the way through, it felt as if they were shoving GAY down my throat. Like I get it, they're gay, gay is okay, it's good, it's normal, or whatever ND's agenda is on this topic. But man, why the entire episode? At least the last half or quarter could've been simialr to the game. I just kept waiting like, "Ok now the bloater part comes" or "now we skip to Bill being old and helping Joel and Ellie". Ugh!

I really feel like this was a missed opportunity, possibly sacrificed to push an agenda that ND has seemed to have been pushing since TLOU2 release. It's becoming increasingly apparent now. I just hope this adaptation isn't also ruined by their agenda like part 2 was ruined.

However, negativity aside, I still strongly believe that this adaptation has HUGE potential to become one of the greatest video-game adaptations of all time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a longtime fan of the game, and the Bill section of the game being my favourite, I was kind of disappointed or expecting more..

I feel like they should have spent around 20 minutes on the Frank backstory and then gone back to present day, cut some of the kissing and sex scenes out, which I feel added nothing to the story. Maybe one kissing scene would be fine but I do feel they overdid it. I feel like we lost alot of character develop with Joel and Ellie, that came from the Bill story arc of the game. The scene where Joel trusts Ellie enough to sit in the car and pop the clutch to get it running, you could see he was starting to see how capable she was for a young girl. The scene where Bill realises that Joel has got slightly attached to Ellie, where he says, You keep baby sitting someone long enough and it will blow up in your face, and Joel replies, Bill it isn't like that, then Bill replies, **** it is just like that. Also we missed some funny scenes with Ellie when she tries grabbing some of bills stuff and he promptly tells her off. We also miss Bill showing Joel his new toy from the toy box, the Nailbomb. The car scene where Bill and Joel and pushing the car and fighting off the clickers would be some really good action, which has now gone. Also the mission into the school where they take on the Bloater was gone due to this. The scene where Bill asks where Tess is and you can see Joel avoiding the question, yet Bill keeps bringing her up, when he goes tell Tess she can shove this job, and all the tension.

Bill was one of my favourite characters in the game due to how complex his character was, always left you wondering what became of him. I feel liek in the series it was just shove filler love story shoved in that made no sense to Joel and Ellies Relationship and journey.… Expand

Capítulo clássico de enrolação (filler), focaram muito no romance entre Bill e Frank sendo que no jogo quase não tem a mínima relevância para história, e além disso, mudaram completamente a história dos dois no jogo, no jogo Frank foge da casa onde mora com Bill porque não aguenta mais viver com ele, Frank acaba sendo mordido e se enforca deixando uma carta dizendo que odeia o Bill.

Minha reclamação não é nem que mudaram a relação de Bill e Frank, mas deram um foco muito grande em algo que não será útil futuramente, quase 50min de uma história que não existe no jogo, que mal tem relevância pro seguimento da série, mostrou tudo isso para que Joel e Ellie conseguissem um carro e ir pro oeste, tipo, todo esse foco só pra isso.

Mesmo sendo alterada a história, a relação de Bill e Frank na série foi bonita, mas poderia ser cortado na metade o foco que deu nela, poderiam resumir a história dos dois em 25 minutos que ficaria legal, mais uma vez, porque essa história é irrelevante perante o seguimento da história.… Expand

It wasn't the wisest choice when you have only 6 more episodes left of the series and there's still so much more to cover even if each episode is an hour to hour-in-a-half long. So as an episode in a series, 6/10. It's a brilliant story with brilliant acting and as a gaybie this made me ugly cry nearly as hard as San Junipero in Black Mirror, but I'm aware that it didn't add anything to the story. Someone could watch this out of context and love it, which means it's a bit of a filler episode made for fans of the game. Nothing wrong with it, but I do think Neil and Craig should have found a way to intertwine Bill and Frank's story through flashbacks throughout the episode that adds to Ellie and Joel's/the show's present plot that wouldn't have taken away from the emotional impact of either storyline. That's my own two cents regarding it, it's not a bad episode and the homophobes can suck my dick. But I hope others can respect opinions like these and recognize that they aren't an attack/reflection on the game or show.… Expand

The problem was I was so excited when I saw the episode was an hour and 15 minutes and then 20 minutes in realized this was hbo's and the director/producer's ridiculous attempt to shove their woke agenda down the throat of viewers which has become Hollywood's bread and butter. So disappointed at the complete waste of an episode this was. Hopefully season 1 is only part of the part 1 of the game because now they have to cram the actual important material into one less episode otherwise. What a freakin joke… Expand

Je ne parle évidemment pas du penchant sexuel de Bill car on peut être survivaliste, armé jusqu'aux dents et être homosexuel. Surtout que dans le jeu rien ne laisse supposer qu'il puisse être hetero ou homo. Mais là où je ne cautionne plus c'est que Bill est un bel enfoiré dans le jeu, extrêmement individualiste, un côté bourrin et absolument pas raffiné.... Et dans le film on le voit préparer des plats comme au Ritz et être d'une sensibilité hors-norme....
La production aurait dû soit créer un autre personnage soit garder Bill mais avec sa personnalité ! Là.. On a un mixe.. Complètement WTF et absolument pas crédible pour ceux qui ont joué au jeu... Bref hormis les 30 premières minutes.... Je préfère effacer de ma mémoire les 40 dernières...… Expand

After setting the high for Video game adaptions with the phenomenal episodes, the 3rd one was a huge disappointment and actually a step backward for the series. The side story, while emotional, didn't do justice to the source material and also didn't fit into the context of Ellie Joel's storyline despite trying too hard. It seems like the makers of the show were desperately trying to attract audiences of certain social groups in order to garner popularity but there's more to The Last of Us than side love stories. It's a game about survival. Unfortunately, after episode 3, there is a fear that this game adaption will share a similar fate with the other game adaptions...… Expand
