It is so amotional when you are playing or even watching a gane or a show that in the moment the main character is almost lost them either they manage to survive or suddenly somebody ssve the moment...a strong brave normal man like bill. Too bad in the tv show they changed everything so absurd that let the whole episode down. It was a Total waste of time. I just hope for the sake of the show that bill is still alive. Expand

It was boring, overly long, cringey, and just a waste of my time. Yeah, the ending was emotional and all the bleeding hearts out there will point to the 'emotion' it brought out but ultimately it wasn't good TV. FFS the setup was dumb. Oh, and it had no connection to the main plot, so I'm giving this a fat zero simply because it's skippable.

The creators sacrificed the season to push a lame trope. Yeesh.

This chapter greatly
extends the background and the
evolution of characters that did
not have it in the game. This
chapter makes it clear that the
world is not only Ellie and Joel
and a lot of infected and extras
there is a world full of stories of
people who suffered at the
hands of the apocalypse, despite
being a world eaten away by an
infection, it is a world equally
rich and full, even more than
what is presented to us in the
game. Neil uses this episode, as
well as the rest of the show so
far, to show us sides of the world
that he couldn't tell in the
game, he's taking
advantage of the medium as
much as he can, surprising us
with more story in the process. Is
not just Frank and Bill, if you pay
attention you realize more details
about the world. There are many
people who only want the story
of the game on the screen, but
an adaptation is much more than
that.
Also it seems like some people forgot that Bill was always gay and the only reason his story wasn't shown as much in the game is because it's a different medium and that wouldn't have worked (?

There'sCompletely pointless episode that does nothing noteworthy for the plot and undermines the original meaning of the events and characters involved. In the game Bill says he had a "partner" who was an "idiot and isn't around anymore". There's some dirty magazines in his house, then you find his partners dead body hanging after he was bit by zombies. All of this is shown environmentally rather than explicitly because none of it matters to the plot. The purpose is to explain why Bill is a angry, bitter husk of a man. The partner doesn't have a single moment of screen time alive, and they don't even show his face because it was irrelevant. Bill is supposed to be a jerk who begrudgingly helps Joel and Ellie get on their way. His personal history and relationships only affect his temperament, and have zero meaning in the main story. Yet, for some reason the writers felt the need to spend the entire episode lingering on a minor character's even more minor background history. Its really sad when writers have a great, straight-forward source material they merely need to copy... and they cant even manage that without messing it up. Expand

The way they expanded upon the relationship subtly hinted at between Bill and Frank in the game really helped give the writers of this series legitimacy in their ability to interweave true emotion into this adaptation. Synopsis: After all the bigots die in this post apocalyptic universe, based on a video game, it’s comforting to know that those that survive are able to do so through fostering a loving relationship. A truly heroic story that shows that through love, love of any kind, that humanity can prevail and overcome any obstacle. Showing we, as a species do more together than apart. Instead of seeing two men in this episode imagine these two loving humans as whatever loving relationship you hold dear. If you are unable to do this, know, that you would have already been dead in this universe…. So go on and judge, but your opinions don’t matter anymore because….. you dead. Too much time focused on this story, it was a good story, but what people generally liked about the series wasn't this and doesn't add anything useful. Also Bill personality was plain better on the game for an apocalypse, even Frank attitude was more realistic than a princess and ponys story like this. Spoiler:
Also, maybe Bill suicided after Frank's dead or maybe not, it was open to -not that romantic interpretation-, and we lose the funny interactions with Ellie just to force a sweet story.

Series started very well, just what the hell happened.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A sad and powerful story that is spoilt by some unbelievable and frankly quite stupid scenes. The story of Bill and Franks love is beautifully done. The rest is just rushed and totally unrealistic. The first two episodes really made me believe in the last of us universe and then I watched this one and was surprised how far fetched they made some of the scenes.. it was a bit like watching the 80s tv show the A team. Unlimited supply of wine, food, and electric just totally ruined the plot of what tlou was all about. It was like Bill and Frank were living in the Garden of Eden on the moon. I never understand why tv companies treat their audiences like children and put all this totally over the top, make believe stuff in a show that’s meant to be a gritty believable survival programme. What should of been the best episode so far turns into the worst. Electric fences 20 years on ??? Come on HBO !! Must do better. We are not kids that believe anything you tell us. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

For them to portray us as they always do, something to fill the plot and kill us off badly at the end. But instead, we were shown a love story in a cruel world. A story that could have been easily scraped, a story that could have been filled with tropes but it wasn’t. This show has now become number one in my books. Thank you for showing real queer love in a fictional world! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Pegaram o material original onde o bill aparece e jogaram no lixo.

They took the original material where the bill appears and threw it in the trash. This episode revolves around bill and frank, where bill is totally different from the guy introduced to us in 2013. Their romance story is good and convincing, but useless for the development of Joel and Ellie's story. If the episode was exactly the same, but ending with Bill alive and him finding Joel and Ellie, and from there adapting parts of what was in the game, that would be perfect. Topics for changes below. *Bill dies, and in the game he is Joel's only FRIEND who is alive at the end of it all. *The whole city of the bill and events with joel and ellie inside it were removed. *ellie never finds bill, and when they meet ellie gains much more depth, with great dialogues. *they removed the school part, so they removed the super infected blowfish. With that I put this episode as the worst of the series, for discarding all the original material and leaving things with kissed hand to Joel in an apocalypse.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sad, but predictable, to see this being review bombed. I have no idea of what 'agenda' some people seem to think gay people are so desperate to push.

Anyone who cannot see past their own bias shouldn't consider themselves qualified to post a fair and honest review. Many of these reviews are written under the guise of this 'deviating from the game'. If that's the case, you really should have been review bombing every episode so far. There have been major deviations from the game this far and in my opinion they have all added something great to a story so well loved by so many.

I cannot review based on what a newcomer may see as I have played the original game time and time again. So many claiming to be faithful to the game and angry at the changes yet often getting things completely wrong. Bill was gay in the game. Spoiler alert, Ellie is also gay. So buckle up homophobes. This was one of the most powerful and well told episodes of television I have ever seen. It showed the gentle side of humanity, which will be extreme contrast in what we are likely to see going forward. To say a love story has no place in The Last of Us? Well you haven't been paying attention. The entire DLC for Part 1 was a love story for goodness sake. Saddens me that gayness is only tolerated or palatable when it is hinted at or nuanced. Thankfully I know many straight people watching this show who can appreciate this for what it is. We aren't ticking boxes, we don't have an agenda. It's a human story plain and simple.

Is it going to come to erotic movies with children or animals soon? With modern CGI nobody would be hurt and quite a bunch of interested people will be very happy to watch that. The line needs to be drawn somewhere.

I'd like HBO to warn before viewing that the movie contains graphic gay scenes by tagging it with "gay", similarly to "sex", "violence" and other tags. I do not feel homophobic. I understand that people have different needs and I respect that. However, I also want to be respected and not to be forced to watch content that is just so much away from my taste. It just won't ever be my taste. Period.

Shouldn't HBO pay a fine for unexpectedly forcing such content onto people with significantly different taste in relations? It is just disgusting. Moreover, it makes me notice gay people much more vividly in the street and unnecessarily generates negative emotions towards them. It never occurred to me before and I hate what TV does to us.

Bill and Frank were a couple in the game, so that's nothing new. The progression of their relationship was different from the original material in the game. Neil Druckmann addressed this in the post-episode interview. He said that any video game to screen translation is going to require some deviation from the original video game material (story line coherency, pacing, etc.) He said they followed a simple rule when it came to deviations in "The Last of Us". If it improved the viewer's understanding of the story and the world the characters are living in, then they deviated. Otherwise, they stayed with the original material. Obviously, Neil felt that it was important to understand that the entire world isn't full of bloodthirsty murders, and lots of people are just trying to get by and be "human". You get that understanding while playing the game from all the various interactions, sub-plots, and notes you encounter while playing. They certainly don't have the ability to translate all of that to the screen in this series. So this is an alternative way to let the viewer have the same understanding of the world that the video game player already knows. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Masterful piece of art!
Coming from a TLOU mad fan(first game, not the 2nd one) I think this episode was a genius work of art, directing acting scripting plot pasing - EVERYTHING!
It was the first episode of the series where I felt for the first time that the show did better than the source material. As a straight man I obviously felt uncomfortable during the first 'certain' scene. Some people are too butthurt to accept that it is OK and NORMAL to feel uncomfortable, that's 'sexual orientation' means! Other than 'that' scene, I've watched the episode 5 times already, binged reaction videos and I'm dying to watch what comes up next - although I already know the plot, there's always room to do it better.

Stuff I didn't like on this episode:
1. Raiders attack - Bill dumbed down to standing in the middle of the street with a sniper rifle. Take cover?
2. Raiders attack, again - It's raining yet the fire traps work perfectly fine. Not to mention Bill set those up over 10 years prior, we see that at the beginning.
3. Not enough interaction between bill & Joel, or frank & tess. too short too little.
4. and above all: The suicide letter!
For some reason the show runners keep dumbing the source material down to a point where they keep shoving explanations in our faces. Like Episode 2 where Joel looks at his watch after connecting with Ellie, then comes Bill's 'realization' letter that it's better to partner up than die alone.
WE GOT THAT! Best easter egg:
The open window. like in the game, main menu has a closed but broken window. Symbolism in its finest.
