Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is a game I didn't think expect to release outside Japan. It is the best modern platform entry point into the world of Monster Rancher, and I've had a blast playing it over the last few weeks. While it does suffer from the same issues that Monster Rancher 2 has, Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher is well worth checking out on Nintendo Switch.- The Mako Reactor

Once the video options issue and the Japanese game version bug are addressed, it will be easier to recommend this release. Remote Play Together didn’t work for me on either device in Twin Cobra as of this writing.- The Mako Reactor

While it is quite difficult, it has a lot going for it with its visuals, and it makes me more excited to try out more Toaplan games when BitWave Games releases them on PC platforms in the future. I did run into some audio issues with this release when I resumed after rewinding a bit.- The Mako Reactor

Out Zone is fast paced and a lot of fun. Out Zone is also the only game in this set to be Steam Deck Verified by Valve. I ended up using some assists and enabling the hitbox while practicing Out Zone.- The Mako Reactor

If you are a fan of both the Neptunia and Senran Kagura franchises, it is worth grabbing Neptunia X Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars on Steam. This isn't the best crossover game, and I was hoping for more from the Senran Kagura side, but the PC port is great. It runs brilliantly even on Steam Deck. If you already played it on PS4 though, the new difficulty options aren't enough to warrant a double dip. If you skipped the PS4 and recent Switch versions to play it at the best fidelity possible, the PC version will deliver.- The Mako Reactor

River City Girls 2 should've been a slam dunk release by building on the excellent original and supporting online multiplayer with cross platform play, but it is held back by the gameplay feeling sluggish compared to the original thanks to a lower frame rate target. The music, voice acting, and boss fights are excellent though. Hopefully the performance can be addressed in future updates.- The Mako Reactor

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water on Nintendo Switch is a great-looking conversion of an excellent horror adventure game that only falters on the performance side of things. It remains one of the better horror experiences on the system and a great game to play this Halloween.- The Mako Reactor

Cleopatra Fortune S-Tribute brings a home console version of an arcade classic to modern platforms, and it is well worth checking out if you enjoy falling block puzzlers with cute aesthetics. It is disappointing that the Mystery Mode requirements for levels are untranslated though.- The Mako Reactor

Samba de Amigo: Party Central from Sega is worth your time if you like the songs included. It has a lot of fun game modes, and even plays great in handheld mode with the colors shining on the OLED display. I hope it gets some quality of life and motion control improvements after launch alongside some classic songs added though.- The Mako Reactor

While it isn't the best way to get into the SaGa series, Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song Remastered features a plethora of enhancements and new content making it worth your time if you're interested in checking out a more unique JRPG you might've missed back in the day. Hopefully it gets a physical release on Nintendo Switch in the near future.- The Mako Reactor

Despite visual cutbacks, Blue Reflection: Second Light on Nintendo Switch is a fine way to experience a very good and relaxing JRPG. The game itself has one annoying mechanic, but is still worth playing if you're a fan of Gust's output. Hopefully it does well enough to get a port of the original game for Nintendo Switch.- The Mako Reactor

R-Type Final 3 Evolved is the best version of Granzella's newest release, but it doesn't have enough improvements and new content in its current state to justify a full-priced purchase for existing owners. Newcomers should get this, but I wish it included more DLC and was the complete and definitive version rather than an enhanced take with some exclusive content and one set of DLC.- The Mako Reactor

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie on Switch is only worth getting if you exclusively play in portable mode, and have no access to other platforms. While the Crossbell games were best on Switch on the console side, Trails Into Reverie is the opposite. It is a magnificent JRPG, but the Switch version needed more optimization.- The Mako Reactor

Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 2: Makai Kingdom: Reclaimed and Rebound / ZHP: Unlosing Ranger vs. Darkdeath Evilman brings two of NIS' more unique experiences to Nintendo's hybrid console. While the first volume launched in a very rough state, both Makai Kingdom and ZHP have been mostly a joy to experience on Switch. It is disappointing that there are no quality of life features or boosts added to make this more accessible to newcomers though.- The Mako Reactor

Prinny Presents NIS Classics Volume 2 brings two games that haven't been ported to any system in years to both PC and Nintendo Switch. Makai Kingdom and ZHP are well worth checking out, but the real star of this collection is ZHP. They run fine on my laptop and Steam Deck, but I am disappointed in the lack of any quality of life improvements to make the games accessible to newcomers. As it stands, this collection is worth getting for fans of NIS games and those looking try out some of the developer's earlier gems.- The Mako Reactor

Hellfire is the only horizontal shoot ’em up in this collection. I recently played it through the M2 ShotTriggers release that had Hellfire and Zero Wing bundled, but I’m glad that it has finally come to PC for those who enjoyed Zero Wing from BitWave Games’ prior collection. This 1989-released Toaplan classic keeps you on your toes by having you adapt your attack patterns on the fly across very interesting levels and enemies. It is also a very difficult game towards the end, but it is my favorite of this bundle.- The Mako Reactor

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX on PC manages to bring two PlayStation classics to a modern system, but the release lacks the polish it needs in features to be an easy recommendation at the asking price. Once some of the PC-specific control issues are addressed, it will be worth checking out. If you're new to Monster Rancher, this is a nice way to get into the series assuming you're ok with some dated mechanics and visuals, but are willing to try something unique.- The Mako Reactor

Samurai Warriors 5 on Nintendo Switch runs better than most Warriors games on the platform and is a good way to experience Koei Tecmo’s newest if you value portability above all, can tolerate cutbacks to various visual features, and are ok with a variable performance.- The Mako Reactor

While it is definitely dated in some ways, I ended up enjoying my time spent with it a lot more than expected. The way it blends multiple genres together and manages to keep your attention almost all the way is commendable given the game’s age. If you’re ok with some dated mechanics, there’s a lot to love in this treasure hunting mystery adventure RPG.- The Mako Reactor

Egglia Rebirth gets a lot right despite its issues. With many smaller scale RPGs trying and failing to capture people's attention on Nintendo Switch by being more of the same, I'm glad Egglia Rebirth tried something different with its structure. The gameplay improvements over the mobile version and new content definitely help make this an easier recommendation.- The Mako Reactor

While The DioField Chronicle has some technical issues on Nintendo Switch, it is one of Square Enix's most interesting games in years, and one I recommend to anyone looking for a great strategy RPG. The diorama aesthetic is gorgeous and I love what the team did with the narrative and soundtrack here. Hopefully we get a sequel or story DLC in the future.- The Mako Reactor

Blending a pure visual novel with a turn-based tactical RPG combat, Digimon Survive is one of the best surprises of this year so far despite its issues. It is held back by some localization issues, but feels great to play on PC including Steam Deck after a post-launch patch addressed most of the issues. Digimon Survive also serves as a nice entry point into the franchise for newcomers as long as you aren't turned off by the structure.- The Mako Reactor

Raiden III x Mikado Maniax was my first taste of this entry in the series, and it is a great version of one of the less interesting MOSS-developed entries in the series. I only recommend this for those who already played and enjoyed Raiden IV, but want more from the series. The new soundtrack option is excellent as well.- The Mako Reactor

Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol 2 is worth getting if you enjoyed the first collection and want more. It has deeper cuts and includes three untranslated games, but is still a good value proposition with some quality titles and the extras included here. It is disappointing that the games unavailable in English weren't localized for this collection though.- The Mako Reactor

Pokemon Violet feels like a giant step in the right direction for the franchise in most ways, but also a step back in others. While I still consider Pokemon Legends: Arceus a more polished experience, there is no denying the quality of core gameplay, new mechanics, and music in Pokemon Violet. The whole experience is held back by abysmal performance and poor visuals though.- The Mako Reactor

Cotton 100% has great music and lovely enemy and boss designs, but it doesn't have the same polished gameplay that some other games in the series have. It still deserves a spot in your Nintendo Switch collection.- The Mako Reactor

Neptunia X Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars on NIntendo Switch is a competent port of a game that itself feels like a missed opportunity. If you skipped the PS4 version to play on the go, this is one of the better Compile Heart ports on Nintendo Switch. I just wish the game itself did more justice to the Senran Kagura franchise.- The Mako Reactor

Wonder Boy Collection is a good collection of four classics, but it lacks any meaningful extras and the many games included in the more expensive physical-only (as of now) Wonder Boy Anniversary Collection. The games included are well worth playing if you don't already own them in some form through other releases though.- The Mako Reactor

I've not played enough of Monochrome Mobius on PC for a full scored review, but I can say that this port is a lot better than the PS5 version going by the Japanese console demo I played. I'm looking forward to dig into the PC version more and see if it lives up to my high expectations when it comes to the narrative after how much I adore the Utawarerumono trilogy. Right now, I'm enjoying my time with Monochrome Mobius Steam Deck quite a bit.- The Mako Reactor
