    Digimon Survive has both a well-made story and a deep combat system that will engage players through each route they may take, but the first few hours are ill-paced with long breaks away from combat.

    You don’t need any previous knowledge of Digimon, and even with my own extensive history with the franchise there were still plenty of twists I didn’t see coming because the story was just that compelling.

    Blending a pure visual novel with a turn-based tactical RPG combat, Digimon Survive is one of the best surprises of this year so far despite its issues. It is held back by some localization issues, but feels great to play on PC including Steam Deck after a post-launch patch addressed most of the issues. Digimon Survive also serves as a nice entry point into the franchise for newcomers as long as you aren't turned off by the structure.

    Digimon Survive is an exciting alternate take on the tone and style of the Digimon series. It doesn't execute things flawlessly - those opening chapters are a bit of a chore and the tactics gameplay is simple with a capital 'S'. Still, when things kick off and the story starts to come together, it's a suspenseful and gripping journey that I'm glad I got to experience.

    Digimon Survive was difficult to play, boring for the first half, and mostly just disappointing. The framework for something much more compelling exists underneath the prattle, inconsequential combat, and shallow character development, and you can catch a glimpse at what might have been in some of the story’s better moments. I hope Hyde and Bandai get the opportunity to create another visual-novel-style Digimon game, building on Survive’s foundations to create a lasting and more memorable experience.

This game is absolutely amazing in the way it takes choice based story telling to a new level with their combat system. If you enjoy a game with a deep enriching story that you can play through multiple times, this is the game for you! The mechanics of the game are easy to learn too, so anyone can get into it, even if you’ve never played a game like it before. This game is everything they told us it would be, no real surprises for anyone following the news, which is good. The game is quite fun and a great read/play.… Expand

One would assume we would get an experience akin to Pokemon, since Digimon is an enhanced Pokemon, but the developers were too smart for that. The developers are such hard workers, they made the anime in the start a whole 5 minutes. All of the other cutscenes are also great, in a brilliant expression of this game's excellence. The story is biblical. The combat is well made and brilliantly designed. The graphics made me cry due to their beauty when I first saw them. It looks better than a handcrafted painting from Leonardo Da Vinci. The physics are beyond lifelike.

    There is no multiplayer. That is not a problem, because the replay value of this game more than makes up for it. Another great quality of this game is that, all of the characters speak in their original Japanese voice actors, and yet the devs still only charged 60 dollars for this art piece. This incredible generosity enlightens me. I recommend this game to all my friends, family, and more.    … Expand

    The biggest complaints come from the fact that the game is a soap opera, but the company made it clear that it would be and complaining is lack of attention before buying or watching trailers.
    As a novels player, I'm passionate about the plot of this game, sometimes I don't even want to play the gameplay because of the plot, I've played countless novels and this game has a affection and is so well made that for me this game is a 10, it would be a triple A novel in my opinion. It's really worth buying if you like novels, go for me, and if you like Digimon too, even better!    … Expand
