Digimon Survive is a fantastic game, which manages to mix visual novel and tactical RPG in a masterful way, offering a perfect symbiosis between both genres. Its story will be able to grab us from beginning to end, and its deep combat system will guarantee us some really fun playable stages. To all of this we must add the finishing touch of an unbeatable audiovisual section, resulting in a truly rounded product.

Digimon Survive combines the Visual Novel genre with tactical turn-based combat in the purest Final Fantasy Tactics style. The title shows us one of the most mature and dark stories in the history of Digimon, moving away from the childish tone of previous titles in the franchise. If you are a fan of Digimon, especially its manga and anime, it is a must.

Digimon Survive feels like it was made with every kid who wanted to be a DigiDestined. It’s a darker twist on a fan favorite story. While the story is amazing, it is brought down by okay combat. 10 percent of the gameplay weighs down the other 90 percent.

A unique direction for the Digimon franchise comes with growing pains and flashes of greatness in equal measure.

Digimon Survive is an experiment that is only half successful, as when determining the narrative and role-playing and strategic components of the hybrid, the developers have allocated insufficient space to the latter. The result is a dark and mature visual novel, which however we would like to recommend only to the most avid fans of the genre, due to the exhausting long-winded dialogues and excessive repetitiveness that characterize this type of product. If, on the other hand, you are looking for adrenaline and the collectible component typical of the brand, you had better turn your attention to the much more deserving episodes of the Digimon Story series.

Digimon Survive is a misshapen DNA digivolution. Most of the game is this great visual novel, which starts slow but eventually tackles some intriguing themes that are interwoven into one of the most mature Digimon stories ever told. Sometimes the characters can be a little one-note, but each manages to carry aspects of the story in compelling ways, and I wanted to keep pushing through Digimon Survive to unravel each person's history and ultimately learn why and how they had been transported to another world. But, at the same time, Digimon Survive is regularly dragged down by tedious tactical combat, and it negatively affects other sections of the game too, like exploration and Digimon evolutions. It's not enough to ruin an otherwise great visual novel, but it does put quite a damper on the whole experience.

I’m glad I had the chance to play Digimon Survive, but I’ll just keep playing Digimon World 4 and Rumble Arena for my fill of Digi-goodness.

SoStarting from the base, the game is 70% visual novel and 30% tactical RPG. The game is sold as VN and this has been said since day one. So those of you who don't like the game for being exactly what the producers said it was, are either a Digimon haters, or a VN haters, or a tactical RPG haters, or just an **** who likes to do Review Bombed.
The game is fantastic, visually, the music, the characters and their evolution in history. The plots that are handled in each route and the replayability of the title thanks to this. It is a very good game in absolutely everything it sets out to do. It's not perfect, because nothing ever is. But the care that this is to the liking of the public to which it is directed (Fans of Digimon, Tactical RPGs and VN) is noticeable.,
I can not recommend this game more. You have to play it.
And yes, the price in my opinion is excessive. But aside from that, Survive has one of the best Digimon stories and there's no reason why you should miss it.

It is in a visual novel format, and it works so well with the story and world they've designed. You unlock free battle pretty early on so you aren't dependent on story beats to get a battle fix in, and it has a pretty well-done auto battle system for when you want to grind but not be fully alert.

The theme is very horror-esque, and it really feels like it pays a little homage to one of my favorite tactical rpg series, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor. If you have ever played an SMT game (but especially the Devil Survivor series), I highly recommend checking this game out. It's slightly more simple than SMT:DS, but it has a charm to it that more than makes up for it.

Overall, if you can read, like Digimon, and are okay with heavily story-based games, give this one a try!

There are visual novel elements to this game that push the story forward of kids being trapped in another world. This is not your typical digimon story though and that might put off fans of the series who grew up with Digimon. This game was an attempt to combine two genres with a series that has some fans. Changes from Digimon games aside, as a VN/tactical fighter it isn't all that bad. For people who like tactical RPGs and don't mind the VN aspects will probably find a lot of joy from this. Expand
