Samba de Amigo Party Central is a great time thanks to its accessible controls, local coop fun and the huge amount of songs to enjoy. The difficulty is a bit inconsistent however.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a perfect fit for Nintendo Switch. Its frantic and colorful game modes are the perfect ingredient for an evening with friends, and while I miss game modes to play with a single pair of Joy-Con, if all your friends bring the controllers you have hours and hours of fun and laughter ahead of you.

Reading back through this review it sounds negative, but that’s because I’m coming to it from the perspective of someone who generally plays single-player and is passionate about the skill tester side of rhythm games. Samba de Amigo is one of those rare rhythm games that isn’t expressly for me. I do love its quality as a party game, and a drinking game, and so it’ll stay firmly in my Switch’s memory. It’s just that, even despite the cracking soundtrack, it’s also not going to join the rotation of rhythm games I use to de-stress and tune out of the world with.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central from Sega is worth your time if you like the songs included. It has a lot of fun game modes, and even plays great in handheld mode with the colors shining on the OLED display. I hope it gets some quality of life and motion control improvements after launch alongside some classic songs added though.

If you are a fan of rhythm games, Samba de Amigo: Party Central may go to the shelf of oblivion due to the strong market for similar games found on this same console. However, it is an exciting game if you have someone to enjoy a little rhythm, dance, and humor with songs that we all like and will become instant classics of American culture.

Samba de Amigo: Party Central isn’t exactly the deepest rhythm game, but there’s still fun to be had here, even if the overall product is held back by its finicky Joy-Con controls. A great soundtrack, enjoyable gameplay modes and a bold, eye-catching visual style help keep the party going even longer, but with a little refinement, future shindigs in this series can be even greater than ever.

Maybe I’m missing the whole point here, but I just can’t see Samba de Amigo: Party Central fitting into my Switch rotation. If I want to master a rhythm game, Theatrhythm or Taiko no Tatsujin are far more satisfying. If I want a party game, there’s already Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. If I just want to jump around while waving Joy-Cons, I’d rather pick up Ring Fit Adventure. Samba de Amigo: Party Central might suffice to keep a children’s birthday party entertained, but even then I don’t think it would be my first pick.

It would definitely be fun to party with friends. I think the characters and backgrounds are bright, colorful, and cute. And I'm looking forward to the DLC for past songs. Expand

The game has a lot of good music, but we need more and more, please continue to support the game. The controls are mixed, they work with some glitches that i think they can resolve with some update in the future, diferent of the last one, with very broke wii mote.
The visuals aré very colorfull and vibrant, with some madness and charm.
This is a unique type of game that deserves a lot of love and can be improoved a lot in the future.

The main thing to talk about really is the motion controls, which were really poor in the Wii version. Luckily they've done a much better job here. Granted, it's perhaps overly forgiving at times but i'd prefer that over being unplayable. Despite this it still feels like your input matters so in order to get the best scores it's best to get into it rather than trying to be lazy and try to cheese it. (playing sitting down doesn't work very well for instance)

Visuals are great imo. The tone is very upbeat and cheerful. The song selection overall is good, it has most of the classics you'd expect from the series but also more contemporary songs. I think it's a good mixture.

The single player campaign of the game is probably the weakest aspect of the game. It has bizarre difficulty jumps which come from nowhere. Granted no mission is required to progress so you can just ignore them and come back later. But another issue is, progress is tied to 'gaining followers'. The issue being that you will have to replay missions over and over to get enough, even if you've already completed them all. This is pretty grindy and feels unnecessary. Surely completing the missions should be enough to progress?

In terms of online you can play with friends or do a battle royal elimination type mode with 30 other players (although I suspect most of them are bots to be honest). This mode is great but it seems to play the same songs quite often and DLC songs wont be in the pool so there's less variety. There are also items in this mode which adds a bit of a tactical element to the game, it can make or break an entire run so timing is important with items.

So what you have is a game that is super fun to play, great controls, good music and presentation and a ton to do. The only downside really is the mission mode can have moments of frustration and padding. But even if you ignore that mode entirely there's enough here to warrant the purchase imo.

The gameplay is just like classic Samba de Amigo in which you shake the controllers like maracas to the beat. And the controls are actually responsive this time! The controls work near perfectly on Switch and feel very nice with the hd rumble. The style however just feels a bit bland for the series. The song selection could also be much better. This game opts for more EDM, Latino, and dance in terms of music. I was really disappointed when I found out that Samba de Janeiro nor any of the Tito Puente songs were included. Besides, all of my favorite songs in this game already appeared previously. Party Central is a really fun time, especially with friends. My recommendation is to pick this game up later when it's on sale and will most likely have more songs included. Expand
