Nov 16, 2023Samba de Amigo Party Central is a great time thanks to its accessible controls, local coop fun and the huge amount of songs to enjoy. The difficulty is a bit inconsistent however.
-
Oct 20, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is an excellent and competent rhythm-based game, but its licensed song nature is probably something to consider.
-
Sep 7, 2023Samba De Amigo: Party Central is an addictive and incredibly fun rhythm game and an even better party game.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is the classic game that you would hardly start to play solo, but which cannot be missed at a New Year's Eve, a birthday, or any house party. We challenge each other to see who is the best dancer, we make fun of who gets all the steps wrong, we laugh, have fun and sweat. Then, after the fiesta, you probably put it away until the next opportunity. The virtual maracas work very well and do not suffer from any input lag, and the only perplexity at the moment concerns the playlist which does not include many Latin hits or many famous songs.
-
Sep 11, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central will capture you with its simple yet efficient gameplay, enriched by new enjoyable features.
-
Sep 5, 2023Reading back through this review it sounds negative, but that’s because I’m coming to it from the perspective of someone who generally plays single-player and is passionate about the skill tester side of rhythm games. Samba de Amigo is one of those rare rhythm games that isn’t expressly for me. I do love its quality as a party game, and a drinking game, and so it’ll stay firmly in my Switch’s memory. It’s just that, even despite the cracking soundtrack, it’s also not going to join the rotation of rhythm games I use to de-stress and tune out of the world with.
-
Sep 5, 2023Using Joy-Cons to play Samba de Amigo may not be quite as good as replica maracas, and buttons even less so, but the core experience here remains as entertaining as ever. With its eclectic selection of songs and a wide variety of modes, Samba de Amigo: Party Central has a little something for everyone, and is fun whether you’re playing it alone on a rainy day or with others at a party. If you’re a fan of the series or simply love rhythm games, chances are this will put a big smile on your face, even if you feel like you’re sometimes cheated of a perfect score.
-
Sep 4, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is all about delivering endless hours of pure fun, whether you're flying solo or partying it up with friends. With spot-on motion controls, a wide range of catchy tunes, the freedom to play wherever the mood strikes, and a user-friendly interface that won't leave you scratching your head, this exclusive Nintendo Switch game is simply a blast.
-
Aug 31, 2023I think those with happy memories of the original will be satisfied with what they get in Samba de Amigo: Party Central. It functions very much as a sequel should, though perhaps not in the way a sequel that arrives nearly a quarter of a century later should. If you’re looking to just have some good times shaking your controllers and your booty to some tunes, you’ll get that here. Experienced rhythm game fans will likely be turned off by its lack of precision and song selection, however. It’s tough to say whether or not this will find much of an audience here in 2023, but I’d like to believe there are at least dozens of us.
-
Aug 30, 2023This is a great title if you want a rhythm-based game to play with friends, particularly after having waited so many years to have this franchise back.
-
Aug 29, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a perfect fit for Nintendo Switch. Its frantic and colorful game modes are the perfect ingredient for an evening with friends, and while I miss game modes to play with a single pair of Joy-Con, if all your friends bring the controllers you have hours and hours of fun and laughter ahead of you.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central marks an important comeback for the SEGA series, which arrives on the console best suited to this kind of experience and does so with a convincing adaptation of the original formula, characterized by a fairly precise control system with a certain margin of tolerance in order to enhance the "party" component and the fun for its own sake.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is the welcome return of a quirky classic rhythm game. While musically it’s now more Selena Gomez than Selena, and some technical issues threaten to get in the way, the game remains excellent. Add some friends to the mix and it truly will be the center of any party.
-
Aug 28, 2023Any grievances mainly involve user interface choices and the occasional motion control hiccup, but there's nothing here that ultimately derails the experience. It's fun, it's entertaining, and it's sometimes a workout. Samba de Amigo: Party Central doesn't shake up its formula drastically, but it's still a blast.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is an easy sell for Samba De Amigo fans, but it’s also a must-buy for anyone who enjoys rhythm games. It’s got that fast-paced quirky gameplay to keep novelty-seekers on their toes with a tracklist that pretty much anyone will find familiar. Its single-player campaign is challenging while its multiplayer mode amuses — especially that World Party mode where the last monkey standing takes all. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the franchise or testing out your maracas for the first time, Samba de Amigo: Party Central will keep you shaking for hours.
-
Sep 4, 2023An extremely fun experience to share with friends, an interesting one when playing alone, if you love rhythm games.
-
Sep 1, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a game that we will always keep close, either to work up a sweat or to have fun at parties. It's so fun and the song selection is so good, that you almost forget about the issues with motion controls.
-
Sep 7, 2023If you want to spend fun time with family and friends, you can definitely buy it to enrich your Switch collection, as it is not really an expensive game. However, if you were expecting a revolution in rhythm titles, that's something you're not going to find; but we can say that at least it entertains the people.
-
Sep 7, 2023I had a great deal of fun with Samba de Amigo: Party Central and am looking forward to playing it more, especially while exploring the online modes so if you're down for a fun-filled maraca-shaking good time, why not monkey around?
-
Sep 5, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central does not require impeccable execution and perfect pitch, nor highly developed reflexes (more or less). The word "Party" in the name is a real declaration of intent, a message to revelers who can go wild with their friends, training alone or, even better, in online mode. Regardless of the length of post-launch support reserved for the title, SEGA has created a light experience, with some sagging in the recording phase of low notes and in terms of frame rate, but absolutely capable of giving hours of entertainment.
-
Aug 30, 2023The new installment of Samba de Amigo comes loaded with a lot of songs, unlockables and multiplayer fun. However, it has some things that can be improved, such as motion controls that fail more than they should or game modes that could be a little juicier.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is an updated sequel to a cult Dreamcast classic that goes much further than the bare minimum on almost every level. The song list is incredible, the graphical style is exciting, and the asking price is right on the money. It’s an excellent party game to add to your Switch lineup. Still, I can’t help but wish some consideration had been given to the surprisingly extensive single-player mode for what the average player will be able to do, given the title’s chaotic nature and the lack of perfect accuracy.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo Party Central returns to the Nintendo Switch console maintaining its essence (perhaps too much), offering hours of fun and new game modes.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central from Sega is worth your time if you like the songs included. It has a lot of fun game modes, and even plays great in handheld mode with the colors shining on the OLED display. I hope it gets some quality of life and motion control improvements after launch alongside some classic songs added though.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo Party Central becomes a must-have for the Nintendo Switch to break the ice at parties. Despite some issues with motion controls, its eye-catching characters and music will get anyone up and dancing to steal the spotlight on the dance floor. A fun title that offers a variety of modes for both solo and group play.
-
Oct 31, 2023Samba De Amigo: Party Central delivers beautifully on its basic appeal, and any maraca-shaking session is likely to provide a proper dopamine rush. Series enthusiasts might be disappointed, however, by its lack of focus on Latin flavor and the general dearth of truly challenging options. It's hard not to wish that Samba de Amigo: Party Central built a little more on top of its wonderful foundation, but it's still a great party game for the Switch and a welcome return for one of SEGA's best titles.
-
Oct 16, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a decent party game for people who are up for getting their arms moving and shaking to the beat. The different modes offer something for solo and more players. However, it's a shame the Apple Arcade game is the only version that saw a story mode. Samba de Amigo is a fun series. I hope Sega doesn't keep us waiting so long for more to keep the party going.
-
Sep 15, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a fun title that still has some faults. The use of motion controls is fine until the game misreads your movements, while the more traditional gamepad method works well because it does more in mimicking motions and being challenging in its own right. The lack of focus on more Latin-themed music is disappointing considering the nature of the maracas, but the variety of music ensures that it's trying to reach a wider audience that enjoys the likes of Just Dance. The modes are fun, but the grind in replaying certain songs multiple times to earn more currency for cosmetics can be bothersome, especially given the presence of two different currency types. Samba de Amigo remains a charming rhythm game experience that genre fans will enjoy if they can forgive those quirks.
-
Sep 14, 2023If you are a fan of rhythm games, Samba de Amigo: Party Central may go to the shelf of oblivion due to the strong market for similar games found on this same console. However, it is an exciting game if you have someone to enjoy a little rhythm, dance, and humor with songs that we all like and will become instant classics of American culture.
-
Sep 13, 2023Samba de Amigo isn't perfect, but it's a good time for all, and I can already see this being brought out at parties as an instant ice-breaker.
-
Sep 4, 2023A perfectly solid rhythm action experience that manages to cater to casual and experienced players alike, although it lacks ambition.
-
Aug 31, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is more of a small get-together than a full-on party.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo is a hoot with friends, sure to generate laughs and memorable moments. Just don’t expect an engrossing single-player rhythm game experience.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central isn’t exactly the deepest rhythm game, but there’s still fun to be had here, even if the overall product is held back by its finicky Joy-Con controls. A great soundtrack, enjoyable gameplay modes and a bold, eye-catching visual style help keep the party going even longer, but with a little refinement, future shindigs in this series can be even greater than ever.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba De Amigo: Party Central may not a perfect experience, but it’s fun enough to be a fun addition to any Friday night get-together.
-
Sep 16, 2023It's could never a good sign when a musical game isn't in the position to offer a memorable playlist. Unfortunately, Samba de Amigo is a forgettable experience which at best may offer a few laughs when played with friends.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba De Amigo: Party Central isn’t quite the revitalisation of the licensed music rhythm game, but it is a decent, weird and charming little title. It’s a big deal that the franchise is returning after fifteen years and to celebrate is a fun enough and grooving adventure that celebrates both a wide range of excellent songs across multiple genres and even the SEGA name as a whole. Playing in multiplayer, competitively or co-operatively makes for dastardly sabotage or harmonious pairing fun. While this lets up somewhat in motion control movements not being as responsive as they should, button prompt inputs make for a rhythmic good time as you work up a finger cramp or two gliding your fingers across the face buttons. The Streamigo campaign mode may offer a nice setting but will test players with its grindy nature and artificially bloated length. Still, for every shortfall, there’s enough whimsy in Party Central that it will be certainly worth picking up those maracas and shaking it all out to a moving, grooving time.
-
Sep 18, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central isn’t a particularly necessary addition for rhythm gamers on the Switch, but it’s a solid party game if that’s something you’re looking for. While the controls aren’t as accurate as I’d like, the core gameplay is still enjoyable. The song list is largely inoffensive, and it’s likely you’ll find at least a handful of songs you might like. There are some fun additional modes and options to try that, while imperfect, add more playability to this game. I’m eager to see future song packs added, because the ones that exist are already pretty entertaining. I can only dream that Sega will release a maracas peripheral like they had for the Dreamcast.
-
Sep 6, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is an entertaining music-rhythm game in theory, but it slips on banana peels that Sega threw on the ground constantly. The controls are certainly an improvement from the Wii game, but the game still suffers from a lack of input when you move sideways. The roulette system is a nuisance — especially in the single-player mode where you can’t turn it off — and the song list is a little disappointing with some overused pop tracks that have been featured in other games...Despite all that, I still find enjoyment in this game as the concept of shaking a Joy-Con to the beat never gets old to me. That’s despite Amigo’s smile haunting my nightmares tonight.
-
Sep 5, 2023When it finds itself, Samba de Amigo proves that it deserves to be revived more often than it is. But it loses this streak too quickly. Samba has far more potential than a few fun dances to keep the family busy over the holidays, I just hope it doesn't take Sega a bunch of DLC packs and another 10-year hiatus to realise that.
-
Sep 4, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a flashy, entertaining game. The different modes are fun, and the Joy-Con work well as pretend-maracas. Alas, the mediocre music selection keeps my enthusiasm at bay.
-
Aug 29, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central brings back the cult classic monkey and all the fun that comes with him, but it does too much in the wrong places. By bombarding the player with no fewer than three different progress bars to level up in, any sense of growth, progress or leveling feels arbitrary and unnecessary. They feel like an attempt to hide the fact that Samba de Amigo is an arcade game about a dancing monkey that you can dress up in silly little outfits; it doesn't need to be an RPG, so why make it one? After all, Samba de Amigo is inherently fun—be it with maracas, a Wii remote, Joy-Con, or just buttons.
-
Aug 28, 2023Getting into the groove and feeling the rhythm with your whole body is brain-tickling. It’s an absolute joy. With my arms burning, Break Free complete, I felt like I’d accomplished something. While the other game modes in Samba de Amigo: Party Central are slightly less compelling, in that many are routine and eventually devolve to repetition, on the strength of StreamiGo!, this spin-off is a strong entry in the rhythm game genre.
-
Aug 28, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a charming hit of motion-controlled nostalgia, though inconsistent controller detection can be a buzzkill.
-
Sep 5, 2023For me, Party Central was a swing and a miss. Yes, it’s “silly fun”, but by removing the skill requirement doing well in a song is now meaningless. What a shame.
-
Sep 4, 2023Maybe I’m missing the whole point here, but I just can’t see Samba de Amigo: Party Central fitting into my Switch rotation. If I want to master a rhythm game, Theatrhythm or Taiko no Tatsujin are far more satisfying. If I want a party game, there’s already Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. If I just want to jump around while waving Joy-Cons, I’d rather pick up Ring Fit Adventure. Samba de Amigo: Party Central might suffice to keep a children’s birthday party entertained, but even then I don’t think it would be my first pick.

Aug 31, 2023Samba de Amigo: Party Central is a hilarious musical game that perfectly respects the classic. Keep the essence of the original and introduce slight changes that feel great. With plenty of game modes, it's a fantastic option for fans of the genre. [Recommended]
-
Aug 28, 2023Even if I personally wish more people could experience the new Samba with proper maracas controllers or some kind of Joy-Con attachment, I can see why Sega went the simpler route to keep costs down and appeal to more people and families. Party Central has everything you’d expect from a modern version of Samba de Amigo: new songs, new modes, online play, and more add-ons to come via DLC (for better and worse). But while it’s very close to nailing the original formula that made the Dreamcast darling so special, the change in controllers makes a big difference.
