Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is an excellent and short metroidvania that is a joy to play on Switch. The initial release in December had major technical issues, but the newest patch has made it an easy recommendation for anyone looking to play a quality metroidvania on Switch.

SNK Vs Capcom: The Match of the Millennium is an essential purchase at its low asking price if you are a fan of either Capcom or SNK fighters. Even if you already bought it on Switch, the Steam version is worth getting thanks to Steam's Remote Play Together feature letting you play it online with friends.

Raiden IV x Mikado Remix brings the best version of an arcade classic to Nintendo Switch with a wealth of modes and an exclusive soundtrack making it one of the best shoot 'em ups you can play on the system right now.

Labyrinth of Galleria: The Moon Society is one of the best dungeon RPGs ever. The wait for it to hit the West has been long, but NIS America has made it absolutely worth it. Despite two technical issues on Nintendo Switch, this is an easy recommendation for fans of the genre, and a brilliant addition to the console's library alongside Undernauts and Stranger of Sword City.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival is a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch library, but one that needs to have its DLC handled a bit better even with the Taiko Music Pass. The base game has enough to justify the asking price, but the real star is how much you get for the optional Taiko Music Pass that dramatically increases what is available in-game. Hopefully future updates and DLC bring in more game music and some VTuber songs.

There's a lot to love about Forspoken despite its technical issues. It makes up for that with great traversal, a fantastic DualSense implementation, and solid storytelling. It might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed my time in Athia and will be checking out the story DLC when it launches in the future.

While Nocturne itself is a masterpiece that deserved better in a lot of ways, Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster is well worth experiencing with its sublime combat, great characters, amazing atmosphere, and memorable boss fights.

Monster Hunter Rise is one of the best Nintendo Switch games out there and one of Capcom's finest with only a few annoyances holding it back.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream on Nintendo Switch is an excellent version of one of the best Atelier games. The future of Atelier on Nintendo Switch has been looking brighter with each new entry, and Atelier Sophie 2 raises the bar(rel) further.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a fantastic debut for the series on the Xbox platform and a game I can easily recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing simulation experience.

Despite some technical issues, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster bundle on Nintendo Switch is a great way to experience these classics. The new font, soundtrack options, and boosts in addition to many other smaller improvements make it well worth getting even in its current state.

While some technical aspects of the game feel a bit unpolished, Shadowverse: Champion's Battle is a super fun card battle RPG and my favorite card game on Nintendo Switch alongside Slay the Spire.

Espgaluda II for Nintendo Switch is a fantastic shoot 'em up with a ton of customization options, game modes, superb gameplay, and great aesthetic.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 has finally hit Steam following its release on Nintendo Switch and Xbox platforms. The new PC port had a rough launch, but it has quickly been fixed up to be an easy recommendation for those looking for an excellent action platformer. It runs perfectly on Steam Deck now, and even supports 120fps if you have a supported display. I'm looking forward to the remaining updates and the epilogue in December.

The Legend of Runersia is a superb strategy game that scales well on PC. After its first patch, almost all my issues with the port were resolved, and it feels great to play even on Steam Deck. Having enjoyed it recently on Switch and previously on PS4, I'm glad to see Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia get even more features in its Steam release making it the best version of the game. Hopefully the few other PC-specific issues can be resolved in future updates.

Cotton Fantasy is packed with quality content, tons of replay value, and is a damn fine shoot 'em up. It joins Cotton Reboot as essentials for any fan in the genre, and I hope we see more of Cotton in the future, because this release is only held back by minor issues.

Void Terrarium 2 is an easy recommendation if you want a quality mystery dungeon experience that blends some simulation elements on Nintendo Switch. I’m disappointed that it still has similar performance issues as the first game, but the rest of the experience has been improved quite a bit. If you did play the original recently, this might feel a bit too similar though. I hope a potential third entry dramatically overhauls the setting so it can stand on its own.

Dragon Quest Treasures on Switch felt like a long-lost 3DS gem that had all the charm from an older Dragon Quest game, but one that was let down by some technical issues. On Steam Deck, it is much smoother and a better experience overall. If you already played it, there isn't anything new here, but I'm glad Dragon Quest Treasures on PC is such a great experience out of the box on Steam Deck.

Despite the performance issues and some difficulty spikes, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is one of the best games you can play on Nintendo Switch this year with its superlative soundtrack and gorgeous aesthetic.

Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is an excellent action RPG from Falcom, but I can only recommend this PS5 version to newcomers. Having played it on literally every console and PC platform now, I still adore most of Ys IX, but NIS America should've done more for the PS5 port. If you own the PS4 version, just play that. You aren't missing much here.

Raiden IV x Mikado Remix on PS5 and Xbox Series X is worth it for its brilliant new music option, multiple game modes, and smooth gameplay. The only downside is there not being much value here for those who already own a previous version of Raiden IV on another platform.

Earth Defense Force: World Brothers is not only the best Earth Defense Force spin-off but one of the best games in the series with its fun gameplay, loads of customization options, solid PS4 Pro and PS5 performance, and varied roster.

With Disgaea 7, it feels like the series is back to being a statistical playground featuring tons of possibilities, excellent gameplay, a plethora of quality content, and polish after Disgaea 6. I'm glad that Disgaea is back with such a strong showing.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection is another excellent Capcom collection on Nintendo Switch, and one that delivers in spades for newcomers to this series. While it has a few issues in its current state, Capcom did a lot more than I expected to make Mega Man Battle Network accessible and awesome on Nintendo Switch.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is an excellent action platformer with great gameplay, visuals, and music. This entry shines on Xbox Series X thanks to rock solid performance and even a 120fps mode. While the story isn't memorable, the voice actors have done a good job bringing these characters to life, and I hope it gets DLC soon adding more gameplay modes or playable characters.

Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town on PC is a much more polished release than the Nintendo Switch version, letting players experience vastly improved performance, load times, and more.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty excels thanks to its combat and dark fantasy Three Kingdoms setting. Even though I loved Nioh 2, I'm glad to see Team Ninja do something different here while retaining the challenge you'd expect from the developer's masocore games. Hopefully the PC port can be improved after some updates.

If you've been wanting a gorgeous fighting game with fantastic music, Granblue Fantasy: Versus - Legendary Edition offers great value for newcomers with the inclusion of all DLC characters. It sadly is a missed opportunity in its current state without any online improvements, and by not including the DLC stages or offering an upgrade path for existing owners.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is an accessible and gorgeous way for newer fans of one of Nintendo's best franchises to check out a great 2D platformer. While online multiplayer would've been great in the main campaign, it is packed with tons of extras and replay value making it an easy recommendation if you've not played it before.

Void Terrarium Plus on PS5 is the definitive way to experience one of NIS' best releases in recent years but it feels like a missed opportunity thanks to a lack of any meaningful support for PS5 features like the DualSense controller and a lack of an upgrade path for existing PS4 owners.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a bigger and better sequel in almost every way. It feels like the jump we saw from Assassin's Creed Origins to Odyssey. There are some annoyances like turns taking too long even when sped up, or how enemies spawning out of portals are handled, but Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is one of the best Switch exclusives of the year, and a showcase for the OLED screen in handheld mode.

Saviors of Sapphire Wings and Stranger of Sword City Revisited is an essential for DRPG fans. Even if you played the original Stranger of Sword City, the enhancements and additions make Stranger of Sword City Revisited worth your time and having Saviors of Sapphire Wings together with it for less than the price of a full-priced game makes this bundle an easy recommendation. While it lacks the accessibility options newer Etrian Odyssey games have, Saviors of Sapphire Wings and Stranger of Sword City Revisited are excellent DRPGs with gorgeous art, amazing music, and a ton of quality content for fans of the genre.

While there are some aspects that longtime fans of the series will be disappointed by, Samurai Warriors 5 is a polished and accessible entry in Koei Tecmo’s long-running series that is well worth your time with its gorgeous aesthetic, excellent soundtrack, and rock-solid performance on PS4 Pro and PS5.

Atelier Ryza 3 is a more-ambitious take on the formula that builds on prior games in almost every way. While this has led to it being rough around the edges technically, Atelier Ryza 3 is an excellent RPG on both Switch and PS5, and a lovely finale for Ryza.

SNK Vs Capcom: The Match of the Millennium is an excellent release for its low asking price. Code Mystics has done a fantastic job in making it feel great to play when docked on a TV or played in portable mode with its various display options. I can’t wait for the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection compilation of games to release so I can get all the games in a single package. I knew Code Mystics does good work but the care put into SNK Vs Capcom: The Match of the Millennium has me interested to try out more games. If you’re a fan of either Capcom or SNK fighters, this is an essential on Nintendo Switch with its great music, minigames, fun combat, great roster, and more.

DNF Duel on PS5 delivered in almost every way. I was hoping to have another fighting game that satiated my Granblue Fantasy Versus itch, and this is exactly that. The online has held up brilliantly over the last week on both PS5 and Steam Deck, and the game looks gorgeous. I hope the mobility can improve in a future update, but in its current state, I'm having a ton of fun playing DNF Duel both online and offline, and look forward to playing it regularly.

Despite its flaws, Ys IX: Monstrum Nox is an excellent action RPG and one that most Ys fans will adore.

The King of Fighters XV is a fantastic new entry in SNK's beloved series that builds on XIV with some excellent gameplay, great visuals, superb music, and robust online. It is however let down by the offline modes.

Just like Persona 5 Strikers, Omega Force using their expertise with combat in the Musou games to build over with Fate/Samurai Remnant has resulted in a fantastic action RPG that is perfect for newcomers to Fate. This is a great gateway game, and one of Omega Force's best in recent years despite the few issues.

Despite some issues, G-Darius HD is an essential for shoot 'em up fans with its improvements and enhancements. It has been an absolute joy to play on Nintendo Switch.

Despite the technical issues in the open world, No More Heroes 3 is not just the best Grasshopper Manufacture game, but one of the best and most fun games you can play on Nintendo Switch right now with its brilliant writing, superlative boss fights, and sublime soundtrack.

Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is a fantastic addition to the Switch's library and one of the best party games on the system. While it has a few technical issues holding it back, it is still well worth your time.

The Kids We Were on Nintendo Switch is an excellent voxel-styled adventure game with memorable characters and an emotional story. If you enjoyed games like To the Moon and Sumire, you will love The Kids We Were.

When servers are online and functional, Gran Turismo 7 is a triumph of the racing genre. There's a lot to love with its chilled out atmosphere in its campaign, a plethora of control options, and a vast number of cars to collect. Throw in impeccable production values and visuals, and you have one of the best racing games ever. Albeit one I can only recommend if you can stomach its always-online requirement.

Lost Judgment was a superlative experience, and The Kaito Files DLC proves that Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio's future is in good hands. While this DLC should've been cheaper on its own, combined with the other content in the Season Pass, it is well worth grabbing for any fan of Judgment and its characters. I hope we don't have to wait too long for another Judgment game and would love to see a full game with Kaito as the lead.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax on Nintendo Switch is a fantastic portable version of the game, but one that lacks a few online features compared to the PS4 version. It also doesn't look as good as the PS4 version when played docked. Despite that, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is one of the best fighting games available on Nintendo's hybrid system.

The Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection on PS4 Pro and PS5 offers great value with its budget price, runs brilliantly, and is well worth your time if you can stomach some visual inconsistencies and camera issues.

While Disgaea 1,4, and 5 are excellent on Switch and my favorite versions of the games, Disgaea 6 has too many technical issues on Nintendo's hybrid system to be an easy recommendation. Disgaea 6 Complete for PS5 still carries over some of the core game issues from the base release on Switch last year, but it is a massively better experience thanks to huge improvements in resolution, frame rate, and overall performance. The addition of all DLC with some bonuses right from the start definitely helps make this the version of Disgaea 6 I recommend for newcomers.

Doraemon Story of Seasons: Friends of the Great Kingdom is an improvement over the original in just about every way. It is worth playing if you enjoy farming and life simulation games, and is one of the best in the genre on PlayStation right now. While it is disappointing that more wasn't done to enhance the visuals on PS5 like in the PC version, I can safely recommend this to Story of Seasons fans and to those looking to get into the genre.

Grim Guardians: Demon Purge on PS5 is worth your time if you're a fan of Castlevania, and enjoy Inti Creates' signature gameplay. It also supports 120hz and PS5 Activity Cards on the system with near instant load times.

Despite some progression issues in the first half, Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir is a gorgeous adventure that is well worth experiencing on Nintendo Switch.

Actraiser Renaissance blends three different genres into a very unique experience with an amazing soundtrack. It has a few technical issues but the PC release is easily the best way to experience this remake of a classic. I’m glad that Square Enix decided to remake this for modern platforms, letting newcomers like myself play it.

Exoprimal is a very weird game that I enjoyed playing a lot by the end of it. Some multiplayer and early progression issues hold back an otherwise super fun experience that has me coming back for more daily even after 50 hours across platforms. It has the potential to be even better with some tweaking.

While the core gameplay loop might not be for everyone, I enjoyed it a lot. I just wish the technical aspects of the game were a bit better.

While I wanted more to be added or changed when it comes to quality-of-life features and fixes for Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster, this release is definitely worth your time and it is one of the best RPGs available on Nintendo Switch.

The Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown Yakuza Series Collaboration Pack DLC is definitely worth it for the music and Yakuza series costumes, but I hope Sega can improve the implementation of the music, costumes, and more within the base game. If you already play Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, this is an easy recommendation.

While SNK Vs Capcom: The Match of the Millennium being replaced by Crush Roller in this collection is disappointing, Neo Geo Pocket Color Selection Vol 1 Steam Edition is still great value and it shines thanks to Steam's Remote Play Together feature letting you play online with friends.

Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection on PC is a barebones conversion but one that fixes the few technical issues seen in the Nintendo Switch version making it a great way to experience this excellent game.

Touken Ranbu Warriors is the most accessible musou on Nintendo Switch, and one with great visuals, solid performance, and a lot of content for fans of Touken Ranbu. It will not satiate those looking for a very deep Warriors game, but is a solid entry for newcomers and one of the better Warriors games on Switch.

Front Mission 1st Remake is an easy recommendation as of today. I liked it at launch, but the updates have made it better, and there’s even a free demo if you aren’t sure about the genre or game. While the Switch is no stranger to quality tactical RPGs, I’m glad that I finally got to play Front Mission through Front Mission 1st Remake. I’m looking forward to getting a copy of the physical release in the future, and also playing Front Mission 2 Remake this June.

In its current state, Breakers Collection has improved over its launch version with updates, but it might be a hard sell for many at its asking price. I liked it enough on Switch and PS5 both offline and online to buy it on Steam so that I can also play it on Steam Deck. While I wasn’t familiar with QUByte’s releases before Breakers Collection, this release has made me a fan, and I hope to see the developer tackle more games likes this in the future.

Rune Factory 3 Special does a great job at bringing a DS classic to modern platforms, and it also happens to be a fantastic experience on both Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch. It isn't as good as Rune Factory 4 Special, but few things are, and this is worth your time if you want to sample one of Marvelous' best series.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle R on Xbox Series X is a gorgeous anime fighter packed with a huge and varied roster, but one that is let down by its online issues. It is going to be interesting to see how it evolves over time with DLC and updates, but it is an easy recommendation in its current state to those looking to play locally or offline with all the content available from the start.

Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium brings 32 more arcade games to Nintendo Switch in a single convenient package, and it has been great playing many of them for the first time through this release. The downside to this release is that some of the more recognizable titles will likely already be in your collection through Capcom's other collections on the system. On its own, this release is great and an easy recommendation with its quality of life features and various customization options.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance on Xbox Series X is gorgeous and it is great to have a Gundam game back on Xbox after a generation of skipping the platform. While it needs better balancing for solo play, I've enjoyed my time with it quite a bit online and offline. I look forward to keep coming back to do a few missions as a break from other games.

Big Bang Pro Wrestling is an easy recommendation for fans of wrestling games on Nintendo Switch, and is another quality conversion from Code Mystics. While it might seem dated in some ways, this is the closest to Fire Pro Wrestling on Nintendo's hybrid system right now.

Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown may not be the big massive new game everyone hoped for, but Virtua Fighter is very much back and this fresh coat of paint does enough to complement the superb animations and core gameplay to make it a great package.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot was a gorgeous game on other platforms and one of the better Dragon Ball games when it launched a little while ago. It's great to see it translate so well to Nintendo's hybrid system in a better-than-expected conversion that includes new features, and some DLC right from the get go.

As someone who never played most of these games before, the Capcom Fighting Collection package has been excellent to experience over the last few weeks. The Museum and Fighter Awards are nice additions that complement the new features like training and more added to a lot of the titles in this package. Hopefully the online holds up well, because Capcom Fighting Collection has been a joy to play on Steam Deck so far.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles joins Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot as another fantastic anime game on Nintendo Switch when it comes to visuals and port quality. This new version arrives packed with all post-launch updates from existing versions right from the start, and it is an easy recommendation for fans of Demon Slayer and anyone who held off on the getting the game to play it on the go on Nintendo Switch.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg is a great remake of the first Atelier game that does more than just give an old game a fresh coat of paint. While this release is a bit overpriced, it is well-worth getting for fans of the Atelier series looking to sample the origins on PS5 with a fantastic protagonist.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg and Atelier Marie Plus on Nintendo Switch feel like a perfect fit for Nintendo's hybrid system with the relaxed gameplay structure. While this release is a bit too expensive, it is definitely worth getting for Atelier fans thanks to its excellent music, great protagonist, and more.

LiEat from Miwashiba is a short but beautiful collection of three chapters telling an interesting story on Nintendo Switch with only a few annoyances holding it back.

A year later, Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin on PC is a great game held back by technical issues. The game itself has excellent combat, variety, brilliant music, and a lot of heart. Stranger of Paradise and Theatrhythm Final Bar Line are my current favorite Final Fantasy spin-off games, and I hope to see the former improve through potential updates on PC.

Resident Evil Village – Winters' Expansion is well worth the asking price if you enjoyed the base game, but it feels a bit lacking in some aspects.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series on PC is a great port that is worth playing if you want to try out Klonoa. It plays perfectly on Steam Deck out of the box as well making it the best way to play it on the go if you have the option. The option to disable bloom on PC also helps a lot among the other settings to tweak the experience depending on your setup.

Bravely Default 2 was a good but safe JRPG on Nintendo Switch when it launched earlier this year. On PC, despite being a bare-bones port, most of the technical issues that plagued the Nintendo Switch version are resolved with it looking and running massively better. This is the best way to play Bravely Default 2, but it should’ve been a more fully-featured port.

Demon Gaze Extra is a great version of one of the PS Vita's better DRPGs. It is worth getting for fans of the genre, but not essential for those who played the PS Vita original. The added features and content are nice to have, but the asking price is a bit too high right now to warrant a double dip.

Sonic Frontiers is one of the most fun games I've played all year with a superlative soundtrack. It managed to successfully blend open world elements with Sonic mechanics which is something I didn't think would work, but here we are. Despite the visual issues and some design-related annoyances, I'm looking forward to replaying it and hope it gets some quality of life improvements in future updates.

Overall, Trails of Cold Steel IV is a great portable experience but a subpar one docked. Having experienced Trails of Cold Steel I and II originally on PS Vita before replaying them on PS4, I'm glad that fans of portable gaming can now play the entire Trails of Cold Steel saga on the go. Trails of Cold Steel IV brings Falcom's massive JRPG to a portable for the first time offering a great experience when played in handheld mode and it is easily one of the best JRPGs on the system.

Elevator Action Returns S-Tribute is an excellent release for fans of run and gun games with its accessibility options like stage select and rewind options. It also includes the original game accessible from the title screen making this a more compelling package for its asking price. 

Despite the Nintendo Switch being the perfect platform for Danganronpa thanks to the form factor, a few technical issues and lack of touchscreen support hold this package back from being the definitive way to experience these amazing stories. Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp is a nice bonus to have if you enjoyed the extra content in prior games, but it doesn't feel as fleshed out as it could’ve been. As a value proposition, all three mainline games and a spin-off for the price of a single full-priced game is hard to argue with, but I wish Spike Chunsoft gave these ports a bit more care.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance has been an absolute joy to play on both Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck over the last week with friends. I was a bit concerned about the Switch port initially, but it is great as a pick up and play game with better technical performance than I expected. It does needs some better balancing for solo play though, and the repetitive nature might turn put some off.

Despite a few annoyances, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is a fantastic horror adventure that is releasing at the perfect time on consoles and PC. If you've been looking for a new game to play over Halloween, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water is absolutely worth getting on PS5.

Taito Milestones 2 on Nintendo Switch is a better collection than the prior one, but it still is a bit too bare-bones compared to most retro collections. I'm glad Taito and ININ are doing these releases for the West, but hopefully we see more put into the bonus content and extras for the next collection to make things more attractive to those who already buy Arcade Archives releases on the eShop.

Cotton Reboot does a fantastic job of bringing Cotton and cute 'em ups to a new generation of players with its excellent gameplay, gorgeous visuals, and great soundtrack.

Blue Reflection: Second Light is a great follow-up and a much better PC conversion than the original Blue Reflection. While it has some annoyances in the overall gameplay, it is a great relaxing JRPG that is worth playing if you enjoy Gust's output.

Shin-chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation – The Endless Seven-Day Journey on PC is a bare-bones port, but one that is an absolute joy to play on Steam Deck without any issues. If you're ok with an experience that is basically the Switch version with crisper visuals and improved performance, this is an easy recommendation on Steam.

Easy Come Easy Golf is a great addition to the Switch library and it is one of the best golf games on the system alongside Golf Story and What the Golf. If you skipped this on Apple Arcade or don't want to play it on a subscription, the Switch version is worth your time.

Flying Shark, like Fire Shark, is a shoot ’em up I already experienced on Nintendo Switch as my first taste of the Toaplan classic. Flying Shark debuted in 1987 and is also known as Sky Shark depending on the region. I already liked Flying Shark a lot, and it has been great revisiting it through this release on Steam Deck and my MacBook Air. I also had a ton of fun with it playing on my arcade stick connected to the Steam Deck. If you haven’t played it before, it is quite difficult, but the accessibility and practice options make it worth checking out in its current state.

Despite not matching up with the best entries in the series, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is a great game and one I can’t wait to keep playing daily on Nintendo Switch.
