  • Summary: Galuda is a biological weapon that connects the Holy Spirit and humans through alchemy and mechanical engineering.

    The "Shinra" military nation, which gained power from Galuda, was destroyed by the two Galuda "Ageha" and "Tateha" they created. Three years have passed since that war.    Galuda is a biological weapon that connects the Holy Spirit and humans through alchemy and mechanical engineering.

    Three years have passed since that war.

    After an experiment involving contraindications, "Soma" artificially acquired Galuda's abilities.
    And the only Galuda to be born, "Asagi" who was the assassin of King Soma.

    "Tsubame" and "Janome" who are also artificial Galuda and prince and princess of the Soma country chasing Asagi.

    Then Ageha and Tateha go to Asagi's rescue to stop the tragedy.

    Cave built up a strong fan-base over its years of development and Espgaluda II is a perfect example as to why. It’s instantly accessible but surprisingly deep, with plenty of room to experiment with the gameplay mechanics to maximize score. The game options are excellent as well, and it’s especially nice to stick the Switch screen into the Flip Grip and play in sideways Tate mode. It also helps that this is basically the Xbox 360 edition of the game, as evidenced by the constant references to the 360 in the credits, and that was the definitive version with three of the four modes created specifically for the home port. While Cave isn’t producing much in the way of new shooters anymore, it left behind an incredible legacy, and Espgaluda II was the developer at the top of its game.

    Oddly, the online leaderboards for the Score Attack mode seem to be non-functional at the moment. Hopefully those kick in sooner rather than later, as players will eventually want to migrate over to comparing with each other. Even without that feature functioning, Espgaluda II is another highly-affordable conversion of one of the better arcade bullet hell shooters.

    Espgaluda II for Nintendo Switch is a fantastic shoot 'em up with a ton of customization options, game modes, superb gameplay, and great aesthetic.

    I'm a very happy shmup fan now that Espgaluda II is finally available for console in the west. With challenging action and complex mechanics that are rewarding to learn and master, its core gameplay has everything that genre enthusiasts would want.

    Luckily for publisher Live Wire, its bare-minimum localisation work and stumble out of the online gate aren’t destructive enough to drag the excellent Espgaluda II down too much, and underneath it all the game feels as fresh and well-designed as ever. The flexible risk/reward scoring system allows long-time fans to decide for themselves (to a certain extent) how much trouble they want to get into while still allowing newcomers enough leeway to enjoy an intense and visually spectacular shmup experience.

    Espgaluda II is an acquired taste within a genre that was already an acquired taste, to begin with. It doesn’t take long to see why the love for the game is so divided. Its complicated play and scoring systems take some getting used to, but the Switch port is far from ideal despite being feature-packed. This is merely something to hold you over until Live Wire ports DoDonPachi Resurrection.

    The bullets are slow moving and it is a great game to practice weaving in and out of complex patterns.

Espgaluda probably has the most complicated scoring system if you like to chase high scores, but in some bizarre choice there are no online leaderboards (even though esp ra de si has one).
