With the complete picture now available, The Ancient Gods Part 2 can only be considered a small misstep by id Software. Short and lacking interesting enemies, the second DLC of DOOM Eternal doesn't offer enough to justify its price. If you are interested in learning what happens to the Slayer after the end of the base game’s campaign, you’re better off waiting for a nice discount.- The Games Machine

Shadowkeep is an extremely lazy expansion that offers nothing more than the bare minimum of content. Some new sets of armor, a few additional weapons, several exotic and a pleasant additional endgame activity are of little use when everything else is in fact recycled from the past incarnations of the franchise. Let’s hope Bungie will somehow counterbalance the scarcity of present contents in the next season.- The Games Machine

FIFA 22 kicks-off of the football season with a renewed edition, with the much-awaited Hypermotion Technology playing the leading role. The (numerous) new animations shine above all, while the gameplay has a slightly lower pace, with skills playing a lesser role. An interesting choice, that works quite well despite some issues (goalkeepers) that we hope will be fixed as soon as possible. As always, there is a rich choice of game modes, with a range of options able to satisfy both those looking for a quick & simple experience and those looking for a challenge that can last for months... or even until the release of FIFA 23.- The Games Machine

Everybody's Golf is joyful, fun and packed of amazing things to do. Clap Hanz reinvented its take on golf with a gripping online mode and a very functional ability progression system without losing the "easy to learn, hard to master" attitude of the series. The game lacks on the technical side, but it's fun to play and is really meant for everyone, so if you don't hate to spend time on the green, Everybody's Golf is really worth playing.- The Games Machine

CyberConnect2 knows how to develop and port games, no question about that. It may not run at 60fps, but this pocket-sized version of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is still able to live up to its counterparts on other platforms. MLB The Show 22 is a great game. It is fun, full of options and with a gameplay studied to meet everyone's needs without distorting the essence of baseball. At the same time, it is also almost identical to its predecessor, with only some minor changes and adds-on that are not too surprising. For this reason, if for those who want to pitch, hit and run for the first time it is an unmissable event, the same cannot be said for the veterans of the series. If you belong to this category, personal interest and passion come into play, as well as the desire to return to live a gaming experience similar in all aspects to the past one.- The Games Machine

There are games that do not necessarily have to innovate or dare to propose new mechanics because they are simply already perfect as they are. Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble fits into this category by offering the classic Super Monkey Ball gameplay while introducing nothing more than the spin dash to add further speed to an already frenetic racing. This seems to be the franchise's fate: to occasionally offer hundreds of new levels until gradually interest fades, but so far we have a fun racing game that is easy to complete yet requires a lot of practice to find optimal paths and trajectories. Good.- The Games Machine

Need for Speed: Unbound is a particular project, capable of forcefully bringing street culture back into fashion, the contemporary one of generation Z, but unable to create new spaces of playful expression. Everything that revolves around the characters in the story and our avatar works like a god, from the style chosen to describe them to the guide system, from the soundtrack to the graffiti-style special effects, in contrast with a Lakeshore which, despite its vibrant technical, remains an ordinary and almost anonymous city, a hub with a few collectibles scattered around that act as glue for a rather lazy play structure.- The Games Machine

There's no denying that Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is a fighting game with a lot of content, charismatic characters, and tons of special moves and skills. Nine worlds of fantastic platform action peppered with generous doses of colorful swearing. Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has aged quite well and is still a pleasure to play, even though its sequel Tropical Freeze remains the high point of the series. Both versions of In Death - VR PC systems or Oculus Quest - keep the main strengths of the game, in the form of an "otherworldly" archery roguelite which is not afraid to raise the bar of difficulty in virtual reality. As in other cases, the developers of Sólfar Studios have swapped the best visual performance of the PC edition (for Rift, Rift S, Vive and Index) with the freedom offered by the all-in-one nature of Quest, in a game where the charisma of the setting still comes before the graphic details. The exploration progresses slowly and this lacks a bit of variety, but overall fun is guaranteed.- The Games Machine

Immersive, deep and immersive... oh well, sorry for the sketch, Thalassa: Edge of the Abyss is a pleasant and detailed story that starts with the aim of detailing a painful story, made up of the various crew members, who have interesting subplots. Fun, light-hearted, stimulating, ghostly and adorable, Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is a great game that mixes joy, brilliant ideas and ghosts with expert craftsmanship. It's not perfect because the original wasn't perfect, for example the level setting can make you turn up your nose as can the repetitiveness or the resulting rhythm, but there's no doubt that those who appreciated the chapter on 3DS will also love this revisitation. Those who have never played it before can finally fill the gap with a game suitable for adults and children, full of passion, attention to detail and curious ideas, both in single player and multiplayer. Golf Club: Wasteland is a masterpiece in the art of telling a big story in a tiny game. The Necromancer's Tale is a narrative RPG set in an alternate 18th century, where black magic and political intrigue intersect. The gameplay in the early hours prioritizes storytelling over action: character creation takes place through a long interactive prologue, which affects stats, reputation, and relationships. The pace is slow, but it offers depth in dialogue and moral choices. The trust system heavily influences interaction with NPCs. Turn-based combat benefits from good artificial intelligence, and once the art of necromancy is discovered, the action becomes much more compelling. A fascinating title that requires a good deal of patience, ideal for those seeking immersion and storytelling.- The Games Machine

The Fabulous Fear Machine must have been hatched by some really sadistic people, because it is one of the creepiest games you will find around, despite being a simplified 4X with a board game structure. The concept of spreading fake news to fuel panic is portrayed with a lot of sarcasm and a graphic depiction that recalls the old horror comic books of the 1950s. Like all games of this type, it becomes repetitive in the long run despite attempts to add new features to each mission, but the particularly engaging story will motivate you to continue.- The Games Machine

Mix the madness of a blind date, the unknown of returning home and the slipper on your mother's teeth, and you get Thirsty Suitors, a video game that overturns the rules and follows its own vision, defining with awareness and maturity an enveloping and engaging game design. It is above all strong in game design that mixes with real life events and a number of events that follow one another, nevertheless outlining an extremely scholastic exploration. Worth a try if you are in a mid-life crisis (now in your thirties), if you have lots or lots of exes ready to take revenge and if, in a certain sense, you have finished Alan Wake 2 or any other work published in the last six months. The Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection is a more ambitious undertaking than its source material might suggest. Not every element works equally well—some aesthetic choices remain questionable—but the work invested on the technical and structural fronts demonstrates a clear intent: not merely to preserve these games, but to bring them back into circulation in a form that remains relevant today. In this context, the RE Engine serves not merely as a container, but as a tool that compels a reinterpretation. And even when friction arises, it is precisely within that tension between fidelity and transformation that the collection discovers its true identity.- The Games Machine

You were expecting me to write, “that’s what everyone says,” weren’t you? Well, think again—not least because Alt Shift’s game strikes me as the polarizing sort: those who manage to click with the gameplay loop and find the challenge posed by the Extinction levels truly galvanizing could easily sink dozens of hours into it; personally, however, after just seven or eight runs, I’d already had my fill due to the lack of situational variety. Infinite Warfare is a nice and solid game, but it is far more daring in the single player campaign rather than in the multiplayer modes. A classic CoD, in a sci-fi setting.- The Games Machine

There will always be a place for games like Freud’s Bones, which have some imperfections, yes, but are also daring and willing to explore new themes. Fortuna Imperatore’s debut game takes some considerable risks, such as having to explain psychotherapy to the player in order for him to untangle the main mechanics, but it hits the mark and churns out one of the most interesting systems of recent times. Not everything else is at the same level, but there is always a clear sense of the desire not to go down paths already taken by others: from a forerunner like Freud, one could not expect anything else.- The Games Machine

[REDACTED] is an excellent Hades-inspired roguelite that wants to introduce new elements to stand out from the crowd and ends up getting in the way of itself. Forget the race for freedom against rivals, and you'll have an excellent dungeon crawler right on your hands with a whole bunch of weapons and uniforms to unlock in order to tear apart zombies, monsters, and bosses in increasingly brutal ways. Try to rely on confrontations with other fugitives, and you will be disappointed. The gameplay formula is still relatively fresh, the art design and excellent, so let's jump into this new ordeal without caring too much about originality.- The Games Machine

The overall experience is one of the most impressive I've ever seen, even in terms of its robustness. The version we played on had some inevitable bugs and glitches, but nothing that had a severe impact on the gaming experience. The most significant technical limitation concerns the loading times , which are quite long even with high-end configurations, but are ultimately justifiable given the amount of data to load, especially since once in the game, noticeable loading times are practically non-existent. Then, looking closely, there are a few flaws: detail pop-up (well masked by the overabundance of stimuli) is noticeable while moving, the acting is a bit stiff, there are sporadic issues with lighting and reflections, and above all, a strange night whose darkness doesn't encompass the farthest visible portion of the world, while we are immersed in darkness. But, guys, it really does happen quite often that you're left speechless.- The Games Machine

A Case of Distrust is a charming and gripping noir interactive text adventure. Halfway between 80 Days and Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective, Ben Wander’s game tells us about the roaring 20s in a very stylish way. If you can turn a blind eye to some cumbersome mechanics and a couple of trivial choices you’ll spend three lovely thrilling hours hanging around San Francisco.- The Games Machine

Avowed isn’t going to be the next Baldur’s Gate 3, or this generation’s Skyrim, being closer to The Outer Worlds than either of those games. And exactly like The Outer World, it’s a great action-oriented RPG set in a bizarre but not unpleasant world that is easy to recommend despite a few flaws.- The Games Machine

Sniper Elite 4 is a first-class game, troubled only by some minor flaws, such as an Artificial Intelligence not always up to the task. South of Midnight is a decent single player action-adventure, overall and without giving too much weight to the linear gameplay or to some technical and structural limitations. Narratively and artistically it is really intriguing, too bad that from a gameplay perspective it shows much less courage.- The Games Machine

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers isn't a soulslike without its problems, quite the opposite. And that's a shame, because despite all these issues, the game is convincing: the combat is fun, the setting is appealing, it can be spectacular without overdoing it, and it's also quite long. But then you fall to the floor and get a few extra slaps, you die to a boss and have to walk all the way back, you enter a room and find yet another stupid enemy hidden in a vase, and well, a lot of the charm is lost.- The Games Machine

Toukiden 2 improves the first episode in almost every way, and it's definitely the best representative of the monster-slashing genre on PlayStation 4. It's not too challenging, considering how lethal and precise the AI-controlled companions are, but the graphics are always smooth, and the gameplay is varied and deep enough to keep you entertained for a while.- The Games Machine

In conclusion, The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road stands out for its attempt to deepen the lore of the Daedra through the enigmatic figure of Ithelia. Although the expansion offers intriguing narrative moments and a new mechanic with Scribing, which allows for deeper customization of abilities, it also presents some dissonances, particularly in the side quests that sometimes feel less engaging. Nevertheless, Gold Road proves to be a significant chapter for fans of the saga, offering new challenges and insights into the vast universe of The Elder Scrolls Online.- The Games Machine

SaGa Frontier Remastered is a 25 years old role-playing game that was never released in Europe. While this remastered doesn’t do much in terms of graphics, it adds a fair amount of content that will certainly make it intriguing for returning players.
