The final DLC for Doom Eternal was worth the wait, providing some gorgeous new locations and challenging fights worthy of concluding the Slayer's saga. However, they won't let you pilot the big mechs, and that's disappointing.

Bloody, brutal and varied: The Ancient Gods Part 2 is a great expansion, yet with a an end fight that is a bit too easy.

id Software delivers a memorable conclusion to the Doom Slayer epic. By erasing the flaws of the previous expansion, Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods, Part II offers the most complete games of the series. The new enemies are integrated very well and create new well thought out challenges. Apart from its lifespan, which can be explained by its release model, this new content has nothing to envy to the base game and closes the saga of the Doom Slayer with panache.

With the complete picture now available, The Ancient Gods Part 2 can only be considered a small misstep by id Software. Short and lacking interesting enemies, the second DLC of DOOM Eternal doesn't offer enough to justify its price. If you are interested in learning what happens to the Slayer after the end of the base game’s campaign, you’re better off waiting for a nice discount.

DOOM Eternal The Ancient Gods Part Two is a great finale story-wise, but when it comes to gameplay it is rather disappointing. The few new enemies and mechanics feel shallow and the actual final boss fight is a flop compared to what we've gotten in Eternal and the previous installment of DOOM. So just like Doomguy, we'll patiently have to wait until we can get going again because there's an itch that needs scratching.

DOOM Eternal: The Ancient Gods - Part 2 concludes the DOOM Slayer saga reiterating the concepts expressed with the previous expansion.

This underwhelming finale to the rebooted Doom saga would be limp enough when judged on its own merits, but the fact that the developers went back and screwed around with what made The Ancient Gods, Part One work so well is criminal. This expansion is more Doom Eternal, which should be a good thing, but turns out to be the weakest and most disappointing that Doom Eternal has ever been.

I’ve beaten every UN mode, and I still had fun with this expansion. Too mellow, definitely, but still fun. My real score would be a 7.5/10 Expand

The difficulty has been scaled back from the Ancient Gods Part One, which is appreciated as that campaign went a bit overboard in terms of challenge. The new enemy types offer some amount of variety to the encounters, though a few of them interrupted the flow of gameplay a bit too much, leading to frustration. The platforming sections are the strongest ones yet, and are legitimately quite fun. The final boss is pretty good, it's not exceptionally challenging and is a bit repetitive, but still works fairly well and is satisfying enough. I do wish the storytelling of Eternal was a bit more in line with 2016's, as the order of events and lore get a bit convoluted in the DLC. The elaborate cutscenes and somewhat intricate narrative are enjoyable certainly, but I found 2016's method of storytelling to be more fitting for the series. Expand

Out of the new enemies, only the Armored Baron really stood out. Meanwhile, enemies such as the Cursed Prowler are definitely a negative, stunning and slowing players down, while requiring a blood punch to kill, being a guaranteed death sentence. The new arenas are shockingly generic, uninteresting, and feature too much verticality without enough vertical movement options such as jump pads and portals. The new sentinel hammer has issues, such as not having invincibility frames like the crucible when playing its animation. The new music feels a bit generic compared to The Ancient Gods Part 1, and the new environmental designs all feel extremely generic. Overall, extremely mediocre, disappointing, and below average. 5/10. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It felt like a fan made map pack. It was just enemy spam (4 blood angels 1 after another in a small area on the first level), had a pretty boring story and a boss which felt like it was from Dark Souls (no joke). The only interesting parts were the cosmetics and 1 cutscene near the very end. I don't have the will to finish because of how atrocious the final showdown is. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First things first, i don't like Doom Eternal, at all, its not a bad game, really, but its a bad Doom game, it just felt really gimmicky, it has good ideas like the Meathook and the recreation of the Icon of Sin, but others like the Monkey bars, the annoying purple goo that slows you down, and grabbing onto walls is just annoying, it just doesn't fit for a Doom game, its like a Serious Sam game withonly "Doom" Skin on it, the previous entry (Doom 4 or Doom 2016, however you wanna call it) is so much superior compared to this, it was a reboot done amazingly, it gave Doom a more Modern and horroristic look while staying faithful to its original source, Doom Eternal is just...mediocre, again, its not a bad game, but it is a bad Doom game, that being said, i had high hopes for the two DLC, the first one was fine, and it left me with anticipation for the part 2 DLC, that's when i had a major disappointment, ID Software and Bethesda gave us 3 more stages to beat, and even less secrets, the secrets in the base game was already really easy to get, in my first playthrough of the game i managed to get about 95% of the secrets, 95%, and its without even looking up for a guide on the internet, but its fine, i mean, as long as the levels are fun then the DLC should be good, right? no, it was a total disaster, they basically reskinned enemies from the Base game, the IMP has like 3 reskins! i know ID Software and Bethesda only had 1 year to make these DLCs, each released after around 6 months, but thats not an excuse to not be able to make at the very least 2 or 3 more enemy types, the new armored enemies just feels like a watered down version of the Marauder, and don't even get me started with the abomination of meathook technique that ID presented us which BY THE WAY! Was found by speedrunners of Doom Eternal! so ID Software and Bethesda was so lazy! that they stollen Ideas from speedrunners! the levels were average at the very best, some enemies being more annoying than others, especially that screeching Imp that boosts the power and speed for enemies once they killed, which adds more frustration to the game, but i could have forgive all of this, ALL, OF THIS! if it wasn't for that lackluster, stupid, meaningless, piece of crap final boss fight ID Software gave me, it was literally, a goddamn buffed Marauder! but oooh wait! you have to depleat its health 5 times! ohh boy! but WAIT! THERE IS MORE! if the final boss, The Dark Lord in this case, hits you with either his shield or sword...HE HEALS HIMSELF! WHAT THE ACTUAL **** So now not ONLY i have to time my shots perfectly and hit him with a giant sentinel Hammer which BY THE WAY You can only upgrade if you do Wave encounters, simillarly how you did the slayer gates in the base game, BUT NOW I HAVE TO ****ING DODGE EVERY SINGLE ATTACK OF HIS SO HE WON'T HEAL HIMSELF?! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?! but okay, after a frustrating, rage inducing and blood boiling 2-3 hours of playing this stupid DLC, i, at the very ****ing least, expected an Ending that wont leave a sour taste in my mouth, the Ending started out decently, then it got to Doomguy/Doom Slayer (whatever you want to call him) stabbing his "creator" being the Dark Lord, and saying "no" to the boss's question if he regrets all of this, i thought wow, thats actually a decent ending...then what happened the next 60 seconds almost made me punch a hole in my monitor, so, because ID Software pulled an Endgame like twist for the DLC, it means because Doomguy killed his creator, again, the Dark Lord, with this, he also killed everything outside of hell. meaning even himself...you want to tell me, the Doomguy, the mother ****ing Doom Slayer, who killed thousands if not MILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DEMONS, DIES! Because he killed his own God?!... WHAT KIND OF LOGIC IS THAT?! I Wasted ****ing money on this! i wasted 20 bucks for this that i can't even get back anymore! I Could have bought the entire Borderlands 2 and Pre-Sequel collection on steam for 15 bucks right now! a game that is almost a decade old and still has hundreds of hours of gameplay to it than a game that came out in 2020 has! for 1/3 of the prize! not ONLY Did Bethesda bastardized Doom as a franchise, they ****ing ruined it for me forever! this "Ending" if you can even call it an Ending, is the Second Worst Ending for a videogame i have ever seen in my entire life! the first one being the Conquest Ending for a videogame called Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 2. it got really. really ****ing close to take that crown from Neptunia, Doom Eternal is not a Doom game, there is nothing even resembling Doom in this game, the 2016 reboot was way better than this, sure, it has its flaws, but which game doesn't have flaws? but this? this abomination of mankind? it feels like peoples at ID Software and Bethesda just slapped the "Doom" part into the game. this is a 0/10 for me, and i HOPE that after this, Bethesda will stop bastardizing my favorite franchises Expand
