Disappointing Conclusion to Doom Eternal, retcons other parts of the lore, the gameplay is very mediocre and fails to capture what made amazing levels such as ARC Complex, UAC Atlantica, Doom Hunter Base, Urdak, and the Blood Swamps fun. Out of the new enemies, only the Armored Baron really stood out. Meanwhile, enemies such as the Cursed Prowler are definitely a negative, stunning and slowing players down, while requiring a blood punch to kill, being a guaranteed death sentence. The new arenas are shockingly generic, uninteresting, and feature too much verticality without enough vertical movement options such as jump pads and portals. The new sentinel hammer has issues, such as not having invincibility frames like the crucible when playing its animation. The new music feels a bit generic compared to The Ancient Gods Part 1, and the new environmental designs all feel extremely generic. Overall, extremely mediocre, disappointing, and below average. 5/10. Expand

I rated the main game 5/10, and DLC one 4/10. With DLC 2 they finally do something right. The sentinel hammer is good design. And they finally make the auto shotgun usable in certain situations. Final boss fight was incredibly boring and a total waste of time.

Insanely difficult. Dont expect to finish this on normal difficulty unless you hate yourself. And what is with all the new mechanics and enemy buffs, when the doom slayer rarely if ever gets buffs himself? And THE FINAL BOSS IS A SOUPED UP MARAUDER, FFFUU! This DLC seems to be a focus on difficulty and not enjoyability, however, the setting and level design were pretty good. The gameInsanely difficult. The game crashed a couple times and made my Xbox shut down one though. Which has never happened before. Fun DLC, and a bit better than part One, but i still prefer the main campaign by far. Expand

    -OST is .....hmmm very-very-very bad
-Final boss is ultra long and boring with stupid heal-up mechanics.
-Location design is perfect with amazing attention to details.
-Final of the dlc throws DOOMGUY to garbage.
-New mechanics and demons are not bad, they adding a new standart of chellenge to this game.
-Dark Lord also thrown to garbage.
    Terrible plot and Endgame.
Disappointing DLC and awful finale of DOOM Slayer saga. 5/10

After giving a 4/10 score in my previous review, i came to the conclusion that my opinion of the dlc got influenced negatively by the controversy around the difficulty and the dlc 1 nerfs (which will be reversed for the most part btw). so heres a more balanced take.

on the plus side: -Levels are visually stunning -the soundtrack kicks some serious a** -the hammer is fun to use, i

    on the plus side:
    -Levels are visually stunning
-the soundtrack kicks some serious a**
-the hammer is fun to use, i always thought a groundpound attack would be very cool in doom
-meathook platforming is great, although underutilized (there is none in the last level)
-pacing is very good, the smaller fights between the big arenas are way more interesting than in the base game and dlc 1

my main criticisms are still here though:
-the new enemies are all just reskins and underutilized
-the last level feels kinda unfinished towards the end (together with the enemy reskins it seems obvious to me that they didnt have enough time to realize what they envisioned)
-the story is full of plotholes (it feels like a transformers movie, everything is just there to look cool and common sense and what was established 30 mins earlier is completely disregarded)
-aaaand the final boss is among the worst i have ever seen

if you enjoy doom eternal and dlc1, chances are that you will enjoy this. but ultimately it is just more of the same at best and a shadow of previous content at worst.

The second addon came out easier than the first (probably due to player's complaints), so overall I liked it. All but one moment. The most important boss of the entire Doom franchise (at least at this moment) is a slightly improved Marauder, who was shoved into a mecha-suit and with a couple of extra HP bars. FacePalm.

The Ancient Gods – Part Two is a small improvement to the first expansion of Doom Eternal. Just like the first DLC, I still found it lackluster in terms on new content: no new weapons, no new equipment, and no cool hub to explore. Sure, you do get a new item in lieu of the Crucible, and two reskinned enemies, but it doesn’t offer anything really new. It’s a worthy finale to Slayer’s gory odyssey, but I must admit that while Part One left me hungry for more, I was a bit tired by the end of Part Two. Still, you should definitely play it if you’re a fan of Doom. [05/2021, p.53]

This underwhelming finale to the rebooted Doom saga would be limp enough when judged on its own merits, but the fact that the developers went back and screwed around with what made The Ancient Gods, Part One work so well is criminal. This expansion is more Doom Eternal, which should be a good thing, but turns out to be the weakest and most disappointing that Doom Eternal has ever been.

DOOM Eternal The Ancient Gods Part Two is a great finale story-wise, but when it comes to gameplay it is rather disappointing. The few new enemies and mechanics feel shallow and the actual final boss fight is a flop compared to what we've gotten in Eternal and the previous installment of DOOM. So just like Doomguy, we'll patiently have to wait until we can get going again because there's an itch that needs scratching.
