Some may laugh, some may think, some others may yawn, but every gamer should try The Stanley Parable eventually. A bizarre, peculiar, extraordinary experiment about life, gaming, and the perpetual link between effect and cause. So, a tiny mod of Half Life 2 can explain all these important things in a such peculiar way? We say yes, and we not say yes...

A good finale, maybe not the epic one everyone was waiting for. Halo Reach will make the fans rejoice, especially with its incredible multiplayer side. On the other hand, the single player experience is somehow flawed by a fragmentary plot, a short lifespan, some small bugs and the missing "team feeling". It's a great shooter, but it won't be remembered as the best of this generation as some believed.

A crazy and extremely fun mash-up, embellished by an excellent combat system and a compelling soundtrack by the eternal Grant Kirkhope.

Disco Elysium The final Cut is a good port of a masterpiece, and as such, it's highly recommended to RPG fans and to whoever thinks videogaming is more than shooting and fighting.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is not a trivial Assassin's Creed 3.5, as we had ironically suggested when the game has been announced. Quite the contrary: it is a game that performs some important steps forward compared to its predecessor, making it better in every aspect.

It may have some online problems at the moment, but it's still the best sports game around. Period. With impressive graphics and a sharp gameplay, NBA 2K15 is still the king of the court.

A strong baseball title, with an almost perfect gameplay, brilliant graphics and lots of contents; still, some game modes can feel a bit unsatisfying at times.

FIFA 18 is a very good football game, probably the best coming out this year, with new gameplay that is more slow-paced and gives more space to players with great technique. The AI is eventually more Human, but the keepers are worse than the previous year. FUT is great as usual, and The Journey two brings the new modes of FIFA to a whole new level.

It’s a gigantic game, with a gargantuan number of story-lines and missions, a crafting system that’s out of this world, and better gameplay when compared with its predecessor. The sheer quantity and quality of it all almost made us forget the bugs. Almost. After all, the number of glitches and hiccups we found in the game is pretty high too, and while this doesn’t really ruin the experience, it makes it imperfect. Basically, Fallout 4 is what we expected: a bigger, better, and smarter Fallout 3, and that is more than enough to make it great, even if it’s not the absolute masterpiece some were expecting.

This game is amazing and makes us wonder why Wii U is not selling well. If you are wondering what is the most fun game available on the next gen consoles, the answer is very simple: Mario Kart 8.

Pokémon Pokopia is a bold experiment that successfully blends multiple genres, resulting in a title with a very strong identity. While the main series has always been fueled by collecting and battling, here collecting remains, but combat gives way to management and reconstruction. There’s no pressure. No performance anxiety. There’s a world to rebuild patiently, one micro-habitat at a time.

Mario Golf World Tour is not only the best golf game available on Nintendo 3DS, but also the best game in the long running series since the heights of Mario Golf 64: it is suited to every kind of gamer, and thus it is recommended to everybody who owns the small stereoscopics console.

FIFA 17 is a great game and without any doubt, is the best chapter of the series on next generation consoles. Frostbite brings brand new physics to the game and the Journey is the first true campaign in the story of FIFA.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 meets its expectations, providing another High profile game for this exciting 2010. Though short, the campaign is spectacular and one of the best multiplayer experiences makes the title essential for all the fans of the genre. On the other hand, EA's shooter doesn't achieve perfection for the lack of any co-op mode, some small technical issues, but especially for the partial loss of the first Bad Company's originality.

New Super Mario Bros. U is maybe the best platform of the "New" series due to an inspired level design and lots of game modes. The Challenges are just what hardcore Mario fans were looking for, and are capable of pointing out the best elements of one of the most refined gameplays ever created. The last Mario adventure is, without doubt, a killer app. for the Wii U, even without an intensive use of the Wii U Gamepad.

It's a game that subverts the basics of the Metal Gear Series. It's brilliant, unpredictable, gigantic, ambitious, awe-inspiring, vain and imperfect. This game is Kojima, basically, and it really reaches incredible heights during its first half. The second part, though, has obvious structural problems, and the narrative never really reaches the levels of the best chapter in the saga, even if the final plot twist is pretty brilliant. This Metal Gear will divide the fanbase, maybe even more than the second Metal Gear Solid, but it remains an amazing game.

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder shifts the focus away from the single-player adventure to introduce a set of multiplayer-oriented minigames that push the experience closer to party-game territory. The experiment works, but the limited amount of new content makes this update hard to recommend to everyone. New players should not hesitate, as this is the best version of the game available, while returning fans will enjoy it mainly if they appreciate quick, couch-multiplayer sessions or simply love Wonder enough to revisit it. Despite the modest additions, the core remains the acclaimed 2023 platformer, still an essential title for any Switch 2 owner.
