The game's music is perfectly set for the different situations you find yourself in. It's suitably dramatic in the big fight scenes and similarly soft when you get to a more emotional part. Whilst not at the forefront of your attention, the music is always there and sometimes you won't even notice it until it goes silent. Your heart might be in your mouth as you hack a computer or lockpick a door with enemies nearby, and the music will do a great job to reflect exactly how you are feeling.

Fallout 4 is a game that will spark conversation and a huge amount of love, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t follow in the footsteps of Skyrim as something of a cultural phenomenon. The game’s only real issue is in the dated visuals, but the engine serves a purpose beyond eye-candy, and hey, we’re mostly walking through irradiated trash anyway, right...Fallout 4 is impossible not to recommend.

You’ll have to deal with people who grew up with no understanding of morality and civility, gain their respect (by force, if necessary) and build bright post-nuclear future with them. Wasteland domination is just a step away. [Issue#203, p.46]

The fact that your decisions stick with you after walking away from the game is a testament to the great storytelling on hand. Fallout 4 is an argument for substance over style, and an excellent addition to the revered open-world series.

Fallout 4 is the epitome of what an open world RPG should be.

Fallout 4 didn’t blow me away like the previous iteration did, but it did keep me thoroughly entertained and fully vested in journeying across the wasteland.

At some point, I just want the games to work reliably. Fallout 4 follows in the footsteps of its predecessors, which is to say that it's a large, sprawling world filled with so many different quests and locations that most players will miss entire subplots as they scavenge their way from one side of the world to the other. That's also to say that it's occasionally kind of broken, from performance issues specific to the console versions to scripting glitches that might just prevent you from progressing to the same sort of "physics gone wild" moments that make for killer animated gifs and such.

There is a classical music radio station that plays EXCELLENT music while you wander around. There is also John Cleese as Cogsworth! So far the visuals are great. Some of the characters look like last-gen, but no worse than Skyrim did. It's still effective. The framerate is fine on Xbox, it's a bit cinematic, but it really works with what they're going for. So far all the reviews seem a bit picky. This is better than Witcher 3, less glitchey and buggy, although centering on and selecting items is a bit wonky.

The plot is surprisingly deep. There is a definite sense of loneliness in the wasteland. And it really doesn't look like Fallout 3. This is more of suburbia turned wasteland. Fallout 3 was just pure open-space wasteland, like 'The Road'. You explore empty houses and gas stations.

    So far so good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I wrote a review for fallout 4 around a week after it came out (15 hours in) and i mentioned a few issues but overall i enjoyed the game

Now ive finished it, i felt it better to change a few things. While this game is enjoyable at times, it becomes extremley repetitive very quickly. I was never really invested in a quest or really cared about the characters, with the exception of the Paladin Danse revelation.

The ending was a massive downpoint, theres no beating around the bush, the ending sucked. Since ive finished it ive went and seen the so called "alternative" endings and they are basically the same except with a dfferent group. The choices in the game don't matter, ive never played a Bethesda game which has such black/white choices! Most of the time the choice i wanted wasn't available.

Im glad i played Fallout 4 but overall, the game was overyhyped & very average.

The story is creative and keeps your attention and there is a lot to do in the game. However, this is where the fun stops. Once you complete the game the first time I really didn't find a reason to play it a second time. I had about a week played time on it and I think I did everything. Once I got to the end and pretty much had to choose a side to end the game with I was disappointed because I did quests for all of them yet I have to pick one at the end? That's not fun at all. I was discouraged from playing it again and haven't touched this game in months. Expand
