Fans of Silent Hill and Resident Evil should definitely try The Evil Within 2. Even with all its annoying flaws, the sequel is better than the original game. Slowly but surely, Tango Gameworks is working its way towards a perfect formula for a modern horror game.

The original game was akin to an epic novel. The remaster feels like an abrupt, kitschy fanfic.

An exemplary “YouTube shocker” of a game. Avoid at all costs.

Rome 2: Empire Divided is a weird beast. I have no idea why Creative Assembly went back and made this expansion. Maybe this is a part of some corporate plan to mimic Paradox’s approach to their strategy games or just a sincere, but uninspired attempt to breathe new life into an aged game. But in any case, it is too little, too late.

If you are a fan of the original game, get ready to hold back tears after watching a brief post-credits scene, and it will give you a deeper appreciation of that scene in the scrapyard from LIS Episode 4. I think this is the whole reason why Before the Storm exists, and that is good.

This is a typical “expansion pack” with new missions, familiar faces and zero changes to gameplay. Still, just as they were in the original game, the missions are massive and well-designed.

Seven is based on a beautiful concept jam-packed with original ideas. Alas, most of them don’t work.

A lot of people were upset to find out that Shadow of War has loot boxes, and they are kind of annoying. Unfortunately, loot boxes is the least of its problems.

A single-player campaign of Battlefront 2, however bad it is, is not a party pooper by itself. But when you add luck-based demoralizing character upgrades, paltry rewards, not-so-subtle hints at a “pay to win” system, and a bunch of annoying bugs, you will have to muster all your love of Star Wars just to endure this game.

One somewhat interesting specialization, +10 levels to upgrade your character, awful redesign of the main menu and crappy Act V — no one expected this expansion, but it fails to deliver anyway. Still, the new character class is a worthy addition.

Quite a things in Origins are open to debate, but all in all, it’s a good game.

Finally, after two years of waiting, the PC version of Pro Evolution Soccer is on par with current console offerings.

While Wolfenstein 2 lacks novelty, it’s still a fun shooter with a meticulously detailed world, a cast of colorful characters, and lots of ways to brutally murder nazis.

This game is a definite downgrade from last year’s Infinite Warfare. More scripted scenes and QTE, less freedom, no side missions, but — hey! — medkits are back. Call of Duty: WWII proves yet again that World War II has run its course in video games. Let’s put it behind for good and get back to starfighters, cyborgs and laser rifles.

The title of Miss Video Games in 2017 goes to… no, not to Billy Lurk, Chloe Frazer, or Itō Ayami, but to a tomboy with no name from A Hat in Time.

Without much words or lengthy conversations, Last Day of June tells a compelling story about destinies, dreams and loss that surround its protagonist Carl. The game needs more work in some technical and visual aspects, but I gotta hand it to the developers from Ovosonico — they know how to work with emotions.

If you believe that an RTS game is about armies of units happily shooting at each other, rather than boring base-building and management, gather your comrades and enjoy this world of endless revolution.

Bungie dropped the ball on loot in Destiny 2, but even despite this and some other jarring drawbacks, the game is solid. It amazes you with excellent shooter mechanics and smart enemies, blinds you with colorful explosions and splashes of super abilities, enthralls you with breath-taking vistas and intricately designed weapons. Even the dumb story has a flipside — you will laugh yourself to tears playing the campaign with your fire team mates.

Short and light on the puzzles, Darkestville Castle will hardly surprise point-and-click veterans. On the flipside, it has a quirky world filled with quirky, witty characters.

It’s neither a revelation nor a reimagining of the good old series, just a really, really fun platformer without the usual drawbacks of this genre.

Die-hard fans of South Park will get their bang for the buck in The Fractured But Whole, with familiar characters and sometimes funny jokes. But, compared to The Stick of Truth, this game is a definite step back.

Echo is an ultimate expression of humdrumness: a stale set of animations, unpractical architecture, miniscule story, copies upon copies of everything, from characters and gameplay design to even the soundtrack. An echo of a game.

In many aspects, Elex is a blast from the distant past — antiquated, clumsy, and half-baked. But even with all that, I would often find myself pulling all-nighters in its weird world.

Knack 2, one of the least anticipated of Sony’s sequels, is quite spectacular and fun enough to make you forget about its stale, cliche-ridden script.

It’s a bit weird to laud a sequel for a simple scale-up of its scope, but in case of Warhammer 2, this is the most drastic change. Thanks to it, the campaign feels like a full-fledged Total War game, rather than an amusing experiment.

Inmates probably seemed intriguing as a concept, but it’s just downright bad as a game.
