A series that was in danger of going stale has managed to take time off and re-evaluate what bedrock the foundations were built upon. Whilst more reserved in presentation, the racing recovers a serious edge that heightens the peril associated with one of motorsport’s more enticing arenas. Whilst I do miss the crutch of quick rewinds and don’t quite fancy the new Landrush mode, the majority of what’s on DiRT 4’s menu is served up exceptionally well.- PlayStation Country

There is a lot of game in Victor Vran: Overkill Edition and it is a great overall package. As a fun action-RPG, this really shines in multiplayer but is also able to offer a decent single player experience thanks to an engaging loot cycle and customisable combat options.- PlayStation Country

This portable version offers a surprisingly full package, if in a bit of a lower quality wrapper. It has all the elements which make Farming Simulator strangely addictive. The slow pace and sense of accomplishment when you bring in a full field of crops. It also remains a very grind intensive game. How much enjoyment you’ll get out of this incremental progress will dictate how much you enjoy this type of game but we rather liked it.- PlayStation Country

Alchemic Jousts is a fairly simple game and it is definitely a one trick pony of playing rock, paper, scissors. The ability to unlock more permutations of elements as you progress is a nice aspect to the game, and adds some longevity. Unfortunately the enemy AI can feel super difficult and unfair on the harder settings, but on the easier settings there is some limited gentle fun to be had here.- PlayStation Country

Dreamfall Chapters is a thoroughly enjoyable game. The story is hugely compelling and I’ve met some characters which will stick with me for some time. Whilst it does a great job of introducing new players, with a decent summary, this is a game where you’ll get more out of it if you are an existing fan. If you’re looking for a modern adventure game then this is a very good place to start.- PlayStation Country

Mental illness is always a tough subject to pitch correctly. The Town of Light, to me, does an admirable job with a period tale filled with a bleak series of events. NetherRealm hasn’t just created a neat superhero themed brawler; it has changed the game entirely. The story mode puts all fighting game narratives to shame and offers an excellent taste of the game for newcomers. Injustice 2 is a feature rich fighting game that goes above and beyond expectations in terms of gameplay, graphics and its respect for the source material. Competitors should take note; a new king has entered the ring.- PlayStation Country

Future Unfolding is not going to be a game for everyone, lacking as it does many of the aspects of traditional gameplay, interaction is limited to the press of a single button and the story is vague and easily ignored. Lethal League’s certainly a game that’s seen plenty of consideration and refinement through its lengthy development. The finished product is a deceptively deep effort that can sometimes become a victim of its own velocity. For the budget price tag you can’t really complain for a compact, likeable scrap. Seasons after Fall has definite artistic merit even if this comes at the expense of gameplay. The animation and graphics are truly wonderful to look at, and the voice work and music tie everything together but, the repetition in the puzzles and copious amounts of backtracking means, it is not as fun to play as it is to look at.- PlayStation Country

Prey is another win for Arkane Studios and Bethesda. It may not have much to do with the original or the promising cancelled sequel, but it is a fine attempt at keeping the name alive. Sadly, the difficulty can be a barrier to enjoyment and often places you in situations where you are ill equipped to survive. Some may adore the challenge, others may find themselves too frustrated to continue. Otherwise Prey is a worthy followup, even if it isn’t what could have been.- PlayStation Country

NBA Playgrounds is fun, frantic and friendly. The scoring system can seem a little unbalanced and there are some curious omissions that stick out in an otherwise well-realised product. Akiba’s Beat is a disappointing follow up to what was a flawed but entertaining game. The majority of gameplay involves walking to a location to button through some dialogue or progressing through tedious and repetitious dungeons. I’m fully prepared to accept that this may well be another gamer’s classic. Sure, I’m underwhelmed and would much rather Atari stopped being pricks and would just let Minter unleash TxK onto PSVR but Polybius is currently doing very well in the reviews. So, maybe it’s just me and this game might end up being the classic you’re hoping it is. Human: Fall Flat has some good moments but it is let down by its own premise. Wonky controls become a nagging frustration and there is little reward for playing alone. Outlast 2’s backwoods territory has a real passion behind it’s visuals and sound but the skew towards the chase quickly strikes me as overbearing. The story tropes sit with a tale that’s been told before and, whilst the antagonists are memorable, their relentless nature adds frustration rather than genuine fear. Stealth remains enjoyable but it seems pushed to the periphery. This game will polarise, depending on your priorities.- PlayStation Country

Bulletstorm proves once again that shooters don't have to be dull, serious, overly long and grey. What we have here is a perfectly put together mix of linear action, notable setpieces and decent gunplay that is simply a joy to experience. Styx: Shards of Darkness continues the series with as much enthusiasm as its predecessor, and builds upon what made Master of Shadows work so well - the stealth aspect. But get over the initial deja vu, and lack of GRAWness, and fire this up with your online mates and you’ll get one of the best co-op games on the PS4. A high quality title but one that we reckon will be forgotten a lot sooner than its predecessors. In the meantime though, Wildlands has its hooks in us.- PlayStation Country

Darknet is a simple and fun puzzler that comes closest out of many to providing a fun hacking game. It may not be the best showcase of the PSVR hardware, however it does make for a good diversion for whenever you are stuck between games and have the visor affixed to your face. One for puzzle fans who are looking for something a bit different on PSVR.- PlayStation Country

Loot Rascals then is a decent roguelike with a very unique sense of humour. The sci-fi setting and the absurdist characters allow this to stand out from the general swords and sorcery crowd and give it a memorable style. The very random nature of the levels and pickups means that far too much of the game is dictated by luck, but the ability to seed specific levels to replay is a brilliant addition.- PlayStation Country

Grim Legends: The Forsaken Bride is another hidden object puzzle game from Artifex Mundi. If you’ve played any before then you know exactly what to expect here as not a lot has changed. If you haven’t then if you can get over playing a game that would not look out of place on your phone on your PS4 then you can gain some enjoyment out of the sedate gameplay and light puzzles.- PlayStation Country

Sublevel Zero takes the lost six degrees of freedom genre, injects some roguelike elements and leaves you with an entertaining but very short shooter that knows how to give you just enough rope to hang yourself. This is a clever little arcade title and we’ve enjoyed it but there are questions over the value for money.- PlayStation Country

A graphically impressive game Horizon Zero Dawn offers an engaging open world and an interesting story. The combat is nuanced and taking down the larger beasts feels really rewarding. This is a must buy.- PlayStation Country

Blue Rider is the latest example of a sub-sub-genre of shoot ’em up that has never really worked. With its overly long, samey levels, it all starts to feel like a chore pretty quickly but there is a level of challenge here and some arcade fans may get something out of it. But, with better options out there, this is a game that is tough to recommend.- PlayStation Country

Forma.8 puts its best foot forward with a minimalist, abstract style that works wonders. More direction would be nice and the plot quickly vanishes but the pull of exploration offers enough to propel curious players deeper under the surface. It’s a great addition to a much-loved genre which carves its own place with some striking aesthetic choices.- PlayStation Country

Ys Origin may be over a decade old by this point but the quality shines through. It plays very well, moves at a fair pace and there’s enough content to keep you busy for a long time.- PlayStation Country

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin is a fun, bite sized package that once again brings back the brilliant voice acting and characters that made the original game so special. The two hour game length will be a sticker for some but it doesn’t outstay its welcome and gives us a cheeky morsel of the things to come in Psychonauts 2, which cannot come soon enough.- PlayStation Country

Torment: Tides of Numenara is a text heavy CRPG with great writing. The world is surreal and interesting and the many characters are rich and varied. The huge amount of choices and interactions you make have consequences both big and small which help to enhance the feeling of a living world. The battles aren’t great and it doesn’t run perfectly on the PS4 with slight hitching and long load times but it’s certainly an adventure worth taking.- PlayStation Country

Typoman is a game that looks a bit like Limbo but just isn’t as good. It does do some very interesting things with word puzzles, but the short running time and the way the later puzzles tail off in quality stop this being a true gem.- PlayStation Country

As a bit of a super fan of the original, Chime is overly familiar while being ever so slightly worse thanks to visual improvements that slightly mar the gameplay at the highest level. The additional modes, and number of levels, offer a fleshed out package though and Chime is still the uncrowned king of the genre as far as we are concerned.- PlayStation Country

So Many Me executes well on some clever ideas. The platforming is tricky and tight. Whilst there’s not a lot of time to the package, what’s here is engaging. Sometimes it frustrates and demands intense dexterity but the charming visuals work as a calming influence. Definitely worth recommending if you’re after a compelling platformer with plenty of character.- PlayStation Country

Vaccine gives a good initial impression for fans of old school survival horror, but a bad first impression gameplay-wise. Stick with it enough to achieve a good run and you might just see the appeal, but it will depend entirely on luck rather than skill.- PlayStation Country

Sky Ride is an incredibly vacant experience. It lacks the basic features that you would expect a game in 2017 to have and does nothing to make up for it. You only get one game mode, one map, no menus and a predictable loop that repeats with no variety. It is incredibly shallow for the price and certainly not as exciting as it may seem on paper. Best to avoid this one.- PlayStation Country

Nioh has been a pleasant surprise. There’s a thoughtful consideration to its level design and, whilst they sometimes look uninspired, the strength of the combat maintains my attention. The difficulty might feel uneven but this is a challenge which anyone curious should undertake. It’s been a long, careful road that could’ve seen many things derailed. Thankfully, the final product is outstanding.- PlayStation Country

Monster Loves You! is a very short visual novel style game with a story which never quite hits the mark. It has a very pleasant style though and bags of charm. How much mileage you’ll get out of this depends on whether you're willing to replay for the multiple endings.- PlayStation Country

Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found is a highly addictive rogue-lite game, though it does have some problems. Depending on your luck the quest system can slow your progress and you will be seeing the same locations over and over, but upgrading your character and the base makes one more go turn into another hour.- PlayStation Country

Semispheres is an elegant mix of stealth and puzzle solving that doesn’t overstay its welcome. The levels are short and well-designed and will give your brain a decent workout without dragging out the experience. You might ultimately want more variation and length from the game but for us the game’s bite-sized levels work great.- PlayStation Country

VR Ping Pong may be basic in design but it is a gruelling challenge in every other way. Whether it is enduring the boring soundtrack, the based in realism control scheme or the battle with jittering move tracking it is one hell of a test of patience and skill. There are some redeeming qualities such as the arcade mode, however I couldn’t recommend this to anyone other than Ping Pong fanatics.- PlayStation Country
