The Rise of the Golden Idol is the direct sequel to Color Grey Games' remarkable investigative video game, a title capable of evolving every situation and mechanic encountered in its predecessor. After ensuring that the writing maintained a very high standard, the developers have enhanced almost every aspect of the point-and-click gameplay, offering an impressive variety of situations and making the solution to each investigation feel like a hard-won victory. While the artistic and sound elements have also evolved toward excellence, the slightly weaker characterization and overall impact of the narrative have kept it just a few steps away from masterpiece status.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is a fresh and fast way to dive into the world of Pokémon collectible cards. On one hand, it simplifies and speeds up battles, sacrificing some strategy; on the other, it highlights the collectible aspect and the beauty of the illustrations, which have recently enhanced the latest paper expansions. The result is a game best enjoyed in small doses, to avoid getting too caught up in the numerous, albeit not overwhelming, microtransactions. It will be interesting to see how Pocket and Live evolve in the coming months, but for now, it’s an enjoyable digression from the original experience.

Slitterhead is a significant waste. Many of the concepts underlying the game are brilliant and demonstrate how Toyama remains a creative mind capable of experimenting and crafting unconventional titles. However, it's evident that, deprived of the resources he once had and forced to start anew with a fresh team, he has not been able to adequately bring his initial vision to life. In our opinion, Bokeh Game Studio's debut work is still passable thanks to its originality and some well-executed aspects, but it’s a pity it amounts to nothing more than that.

Treyarch had a full four years to develop its new Call of Duty, and, with no surprise, it's the best in recent years. The studio had time to refine a movement system that will likely redefine the series' standards going forward. They've paired a fast-paced, fun multiplayer with an outstanding campaign, and Zombie is as close to the golden days of Black Ops as it gets. And yet, it's available with a Game Pass subscription. For us, that's a pretty good deal.

BioWare's new epic is an enormous, layered, sprawling, often overwhelming mix of various elements that desperately tries to offer a wealth of content, aiming to appeal to every RPG lover, yet in doing so, fails to truly excel in any particular area. We want one thing to be clear, though: in the end, the experience is enjoyable, definitely exceeding the expectations we had formed from months of announcements and trailers, but there's really nothing that can captivate the player and elevate the game to the level of the genre's heavyweights. And that's a real shame, because the dedication of the development team shines through in many aspects, like the structural depth, level design, ensemble dialogues, and even a combat system that, ultimately, is fun — but not quite enough. More than ever, this was a case where it would have been better to cut back, trim down, and streamline further, to offer a more focused and well-defined experience.

Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven is undoubtedly one of the strangest and most fascinating unknown JRPGs of its era. The non-linear narrative keeps it fresh, while the other aspects are absolutely average. What unfortunately doesn't help is the plethora of flat characters that the title offers. Still, there's plenty to play, discover, explore, and we can't help but recommend this remake to anyone looking for a little piece of hidden history in the genre, those exponents you didn't know existed but who, in their own way, still have some nice ideas to convey.

Fear the Spotlight offers horror movie and video game enthusiasts a pleasant (perhaps too much, considering we’re talking about horror) five-hour experience spent in a simple story that cleverly reinterprets classic tropes with some interesting visual ideas and excellent progression. The aesthetics are a perfect balance between the nostalgia of PlayStation-era titles and modern rendering. Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 is a fun game, but not enough to overlook both its game design flaws and the fact that it has no real reason to exist. Its poorly written dialogue, non-existent story, and characters with endlessly repeated lines often put a spoke in the wheels of the otherwise fun gameplay based on bugs, robots, and other giant enemies to kill. The experience, however, is in no way different from that of the previous chapter and seems designed only for die-hard fans of Earth Defense Force since it adds very little beyond a few new enemies and the characters from the sixth chapter. Those who do not know or appreciate the series, then, are surrounded by video games that offer the same type of entertainment at a low level of difficulty but with much greater longevity and depth. Enotria: The Last Song deserves full marks, we are absolutely certain of this. But it is a title full of imperfections: this too is undeniable. Imperfections that denote a certain inexperience of the development team who chose to risk too much, to launch themselves into one of the most complex genres of the current videogame market, where there are some practically unattainable progenitors and a small handful of other exponents who, with difficulty, they did it. Unfortunately, Enotria is very far from all of these and although it offers an experience that, we are sure, will give some satisfaction to those who need to play at least one soulslike a month, it does not allow us to overlook all the problems associated with its game mechanics and the experience it offers. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is the sequel we have been waiting for so long, nothing more and nothing less. An evolution of the first chapter in every respect, capable of engaging us in furious battles against endless hordes of enemies, embracing the mechanics of an improved and spectacular combat system.

The Ace Attorney Investigations Collection is predictably an excellent work, enhanced by the fact that it finally brings us an official translation of the second chapter of Miles Edgeworth's adventures. It's just a shame that this translation is not (equally predictably unfortunately) in Italian, and that the structural shortcomings of the first chapter have remained almost unchanged, despite some changes to the quality of life toning them down. However, these are two games that are still very enjoyable and extremely brilliant today, which deserve to be part of the Ace Attorney series and to be played.

Akimbot is a Ratchet & Clank indie that is cheap and worth its price, but only if you are really big fans of the genre and can't wait to get back to shooting and jumping around while waiting for a new chapter to come from Insomniac Games. Of course, don't hold out hope for the quality of the source material and especially don't have high hopes for the story and characters. There are various flaws and no matter how much heart Evil Raptor put into the project we struggle to suggest Akimbot to everyone.

Emio - The Smiling Man is the ideal episode to introduce a new Nintendo detective game to modern audiences, enriched by the fact that this saga had never been published outside Japan. Sakamoto reconfirms himself as an excellent writer of captivating, well-connected graphic novels, designed to flow fluidly through the player's thoughts and ideas, continually adding and removing new doubts, possibilities and seasoning a salad full of ingredients to perfection.

Age of Mythology Retold is by no means a simple remastered version: sure, it is in excellent shape thanks to the modern version of the Bang Engine, the remake of the animations, as well as the implementation of the orchestral soundtrack, but it is in the gameplay layer that they hide the juiciest news. If every single element of the work, from the divinities, through the civilizations to the individual units, has been evolved and modified according to balance and dynamism, there are also several absolute innovations in the area of quality of life. Of course, you still encounter some problems in the pathing and such invasive work can generate some unexpected bugs, but it is without a shadow of a doubt the best possible way to enjoy one of the most fun RTSs ever made.

Visions of Mana is a successful return to the Seiken Densetsu form with a vibrant world to explore, an engaging tale and some neat gameplay antics. Every aspect of the game is somewhat constrained by its limited budget but we are overall happy the beloved series might have found its new footing.

Star Wars Outlaws is an excellent Star Wars game. A good adventure, with a good story and good characters, all perfectly placed within a framework that is absolutely faithful and respectful of this intellectual property. It clearly does not have the depth of a Fallen Order in terms of combat nor the facets of the best RPGs set in this fictional universe, but when it comes to gameplay and contents it is certainly rich and interesting, very solid though far from original.

As it stands, however, it is a project that puts the long testing phase it desperately needs behind the payment of an entrance fee, among other things in an undergrowth in which the competition has adopted the free-to-play model for years, running the risk of generating a fall from which it seems difficult to recover.
