This is a classic slice of gaming that bodes very well for the future of Team17's back-catalog on iOS devices. The controls are solid, and the content has been ported with affection and respect for the original game.

The music's infectious and will get stuck in your head for days, while the characters and environments have a simplistic but effective cartoon style appearance.

Yes, some things work better than others, but you'll learn to deal with the game's quirks in exchange for that old Disney magic, though if you're a big Kingdom Hearts fanatic, Square Enix already had your support.

As someone who's slogged their way through more than a few tower-defense games this year, that first moment of manning a high-explosive turret put a very big grin on my face. If you're in need of a convincing reason to delve into yet another game in the genre, developer Colossal has a very good one for you indeed.

A ridiculous, rollicking adventure that's clearly been an explosive labor of love for the developers, you'll get more than enough fun for your money from this refreshingly different title.

Flick Champions World Edition certainly captures the spirit of the moment, and offers a decent selection of sports, although there's a mixed bag of quality to be found in the individual events. The progression system is neat though and offers up plenty of replay value, assuming you limit yourself to the more competently realized disciplines.

Personally, we think it's a good management sim that's worth pouring at least $6 into. That'll give you a solid foundation with a fast track to scoring resources at a fairly consistent clip; it also helps if you're a Jurassic Park and/or dinosaur fan. However, if the mere thought of in-app purchases makes you cringe, this simply isn't the game for you.

There is nothing particularly wrong with Worm vs Birds per se, just that it struggles to justify its place on the App Store amongst the likes of Angry Birds, as well as the dozens of extremely competent games that the genre flagship spawned.

Manos: The Hands of Fate is a terrible movie, but it wound up being a solid video game.

Nostalgia fiends are going to get an awful lot more out of Spy vs Spy than those who have never played the game previously: this is every bit the game that was played and loved all those years ago, and the option to play with retro graphics is a very nice addition. For everyone else, there's certainly an enjoyable game to be had here, but the controls will likely take some of the shine off the experience.

In all, Epic Meal Time is a surprisingly enjoyable display of gluttony that won't add several inches to your waistline. As for the group's calorie-busting dishes, eat at your own risk.

ORC: Vengeance absolutely deserves to take its place amongst the best dungeon crawling games on the App Store, of which, there are few. Next to Gameloft's Dungeon Hunter series, it's the closest thing you'll find to Diablo 3 on smartphones and tablets, filled with cool weapons, visually stimulating graphics and rewarding combat.

It's more like an interactive comic book, with believable characters, solid voice acting, attractive cell-shaded graphics and buckets of blood. In all, a thoroughly entertaining undead romp.

An enormous amount of pre-planning is required to set up that perfect chain-reaction, and the intense excitement that accompanies the successful realization of your careful strategizing is both hypnotic and thrilling.

It's by no means perfect, but it is a refreshing change of pace for tower-building lovers, even if genre newcomers would be better served by other titles on the App Store.

This is every inch a Dreamcast-era game, albeit one using tweaked PC code, and for some that will be enough to justify the price of admission on its own.

While your time with Party Wave will certainly be enjoyable, it's likely to be rather short-lived.

The game seems ideal for younger children, although they'll likely become frustrated once the easier levels are behind them. Still, if you hanker for a refreshingly different puzzler, we still think you'll get your money's worth from what's on offer.

We had an absolute blast playing Fieldrunners 2, and recommend the title to any tower-defense fan. Even those who typically shy away from the genre will find a very different, and very enjoyable strategy title here.

It may not have the longest campaign in the world, but Emergency packs in more than enough bang for your handful of bucks.

Run Fatty Run is a fun distraction and a somewhat decent motivator for people with a few pounds to lose, but it does little to advance the running sub genre, or hang with the best players in the game, for that matter. Still, it's a huge guy running from a tiger. Make of that what you will.

For its attention to detail, nostalgia and unashamedly daft story, Metal Gun delivers. It's a shame that it's let down in the final analysis by a rather frustrating joystick, but we still had fun with it.

Combine that with the uninspired battles, and Sinbad simply lacks an addictive hook. Eventually, we questioned the point of playing this game, and after failing to come up with a good answer, deleted it. What could have been, oh yes. What could have been.

Disney could've put more effort into the app, but as it stands, this retro-flavored effort knows its roots.

Knights of the Round Cable succeeds in consuming hours upon hours of time, thanks to its addictive "just one more go" hook.

Tap Tap Revenge Tour does a great job of living up to the legacy of one of the most popular music gaming series on the App Store. There's a huge amount of variety in the music selections, a pretty generous chunk of free tracks, and the Jam mode lets you carry on rocking even while you wait for the cooldown on your career.

With a far great focus on action and reaction, rather than deep strategizing, it's a very different take on the tower-defense genre. Disappointing though it is that consumable advantages are available for cash when you've already bought the game outright, it's still fun enough to play without them.

Outwitters does a great job of offering up some seriously meaty content for absolutely nothing. There's some fine strategy to be had online, although the experience is very dependent on the commitment and availability of your particular opponent.

Even without a buddy along for the ride, Left2Die justifies its $0.99 asking price, and with multiple weapons and characters to unlock (priest, sheriff, business man), it'll keep you fragging zombies through the weekend.

MapleStory Live isn't shy about presenting its pay-wall to you, and from the moment you start the free version the game is all about what you CAN'T enjoy.

The presentation hooked us from the beginning. The simplistic and mostly black and white graphics take us back to the Atari 2600 days, and the spacey music does a great job lulling us into a somewhat relaxed state.

We had a concern when we previewed the game that the game's pace and repetition may go against it in the end, and it's certainly true that (boss-fights aside) the game becomes a bit of a trudge once you've taken on the first dozen or so levels.

It's certainly true that there are a huge number of endless-runners vying for everyone's attention at the moment, but Hiptic's GoNinja offers up enough variety (just) to make it worthy of checking out. If you've become utterly exhausted by the genre though, it's unlikely that the game will give you a second wind.

We definitely recommend TheEndApp for Temple Run fans looking for something a bit different. We just wish more thought went into the missions and plot, but as far as free iOS games go, we can't think of a better way to embrace mankind's destruction.

If you couldn't play Kingdom Rush the first time around, you owe it to yourself to play it now.

They did such an excellent job imbuing the heroes with personality while creating a gorgeous world for them to explore, pulling art from the Old West and merging it with cool undersea scenery; everything has a nice summery feel. Even the title screen that features parallax scrolling is cool. A nice touch, indeed.

The developers kill the music prematurely. You'll start to get the hang of things and then, suddenly, the song stops. If anything, it left us wanting more. A shame, since Moonshark's game is so enjoyable.

There's an awful lot to love about Darkside: it looks fantastic, it plays brilliantly, and there's an awful lot of content to be had for less than a dollar.

The core gameplay may never evolve beyond steering directionally, flying through hoops, gathering stars and proceeding along a series of on-rails levels. But it's done so competently, and with some much care and attention to detail, that you won't fail to fall in love with Kiloo's new creation.

CSR Racing isn't the best driving game on the App Store, but it's still one players should check out, especially if they're huge car fanatics. Now all we need is head-to-head online/offline multiplayer, and we'll be set.

What we can say for certain about Zombie HQ however is that it's a highly-accomplished and satisfyingly brutal arcade slasher that should leave even the most over-saturated fans of the undead genre feeling very happy indeed.

Stupendous mobile game graphics, a powerful collection of weapons and equipment, mowing down zombies and seeing their heads splatter, affordably-priced in-app cash and gold, surprisingly responsive first-person controls.

There's an awful lot to like about Vampire Season: it's a beautifully drawn game, there's great variety in the cast of characters, and this is a game that knows better than to take itself too seriously. We did occasionally get annoyed with the rather out-of-control camera which can zoom into the action when you really don't want it too, but apart from that this is a very refreshing take on an increasingly stale genre.

So is Unstoppable Fist worth a purchase? Yes, especially if you're a fan of those brawlers from back in the day. The game's enemies are a bit cheap (we would nix two-hit baddies altogether), but you'll make serious headway on Easy and Medium. On top of that, the outstanding presentation (the soundtrack is free, by the way) makes spending that $0.99 a smart decision.

Ultimately, it's a slightly different version of Where's My Water? with more than 80 new levels, and at the end of the day, no one can argue with that.

It clearly makes sense for Zynga to stick to a tried formula in both the style of gameplay and a recognizable interface that every member of the gaming audience has grown comfortable with, but there's no denying that the set-up is starting to feel just a little tired. Still, this is a very addictive little game that breathes new life into one of our favorite genres.

Monster Paradise is one of the better monster gathering games we've played on mobiles, and those with less aversion to the cynical business model will enjoy what's on offer. We're still waiting for something special though, and Paradise's business model as well as its opaque, Skinner box questing means this isn't quite the obsessive collection game we've been waiting for.

100 Floors is everything that's great about the App Store and gaming period: playfulness, inventiveness and a deep sense of satisfaction whenever your triumphs unfold before you. And even though there's a puzzle based on the periodic table within the game, you really shouldn't let that put you off downloading it immediately.

Strikefleet Omega invokes some very happy memories of one of PC gaming's greatest triumphs, Homeworld. While this is a far more arcade-like, simplistic and brisk version of that classic RPS, we've given up hope on a third installment of the game ever seeing the light of day, and so this is just what we need to keep us occupied on the way to work in the mornings.

There's plenty to like about Banzai Blade, and the fact that it's free makes it an impulse download you won't regret. Far from exceptional, but definitely worth playing a few times a day.

It all comes down to whether you intend to put up with Yesterday's quirks. There's a good game in there, buried beneath the confusion, but do you have the patience to uncover it? That's the question separating you from this $4.99 (limited time sale) iPhone and iPad title.

What makes Band Together especially challenging is this: once a Bandy falls off a platform, there's no way to go back. This is where much of the head-scratching comes into play, since you must plot several moves ahead to see how puzzles unfold.

You'll do yourself a disservice to avoid it, especially at $0.99.

There's no denying that tablets offer a unique opportunity to both breathe new life into the genre, as well as open it up to a new audience. Certainly Magic 2013 is the best game of its kind that we've played on the iPad.

Like all of Adult Swim's games, Velocirapture is unashamedly what it is: a simple and entertaining game that doesn't take itself too seriously, and knows how to inject some much-needed, knowing fun onto the App Store.

Ultimately, the price is RayStorm's biggest issue. We can debate the game's overall quality, we think it's quite good, but at the end of the day, it's a tough shooter to recommend with such a high barrier to entry. A satisfying interstellar trek, but one that comes with sticker shock.

The spirit of the show is certainly here, even if an especially solid gaming experience isn't.

We enjoy pulling it out for a quick match of survival, but there's simply not enough meat on this title's bones to warrant long-term appeal, and there doesn't appear to be a thriving community willing to hop online for two-person co-op, but as far as intense iPhone and iPad games go, it's right up there.

Despite its flaws, Mutant Storm is still an easy enough recommendation for twin-stick junkies.

We think it's a cool change of pace from most zombie-themed titles available. At the same time, No Zombies Allowed doesn't pack a big enough challenge, as the toughest parts have little to do with killing monsters or even managing personalities. Instead, it's all about wrestling with the decision to part with cash. We chose to keep ours.

Sure, one could make the argument that No Red T-Shirts is strictly for kids, but we'd like to think that even children beyond the age of three would expect a game with more depth.

If you missed out on the game the first time around, or simply came to gaming later on in life, this is both an excellent and depressing example of how far games could and should have evolved by 2012.

ell, if you're a tower-defense nut then we can't help but feel you haven't been properly challenged until you've taken this title on. If you need a little more hand-holding in your game progression though, Heliceum's game may just be a little too impenetrable to hold your attention for long.

Simply put, WarGames is awesome. Head-to-head multiplayer would sweeten the deal, but as it stands, this is one of the finest match-three puzzlers on the App Store, as well as a shockingly good movie-based game; there aren't many of those available.

Sega did a great job designing characters that appear yanked from hieroglyphics and Greek statues, then set them against old pieces of parchment paper. Then, to top it off, the developers added music that helps drive home the time period. No matter which device you play it on, Alexandria Bloodshow is one fine-looking title.

The game contains an intriguing blend of strategy, management and under-the-hood tinkering, and in contrast to the deceptive Tiny Tower there's much more genuine depth to the game beyond a superficial appeal to obsessiveness. Whether you felt burned out by that game or not, we highly recommend you try out NimbleBit's brand new addiction.

Taken as a bit of throwaway fun at Christmas, or passed around on an iPad at family events, there's something to be said for grabbing Bop It! Smash, especially as it's a free download. As a solo endeavor though, the rather simplistic gameplay, single game mode, and occasional hardware jitters make this game a rather difficult one to wholeheartedly recommend.

We can't recommend Mad Acorn enough. There's simply nothing quite like it on the App Store, and it's more than a bizarre curiosity. This is a well made and immensely entertaining video game that'll have you tapping a foot and nodding your head in no time.

It's the most complex runner we've played, and makes us excited for the future of App Store platformers. To that end, we hope this isn't the last we've seen of Belle, or Fabrication Games, for that matter.

Uplink is a sublime game that hasn't aged a bit, paying the same tribute to the mainstream perception of Hollywood hacking culture that persists today through those same fondly remembered films.

We had a lot of fun with Catapult King: the graphics are gorgeous, it's an interesting take on the typical physics puzzlers on the App Store, and it has a very responsive control system that befits a precision puzzler such as this.

Mega Run is a lovely game that oozes charm and will delight players of all ages. Even if you think you can't possibly bear to play another screen-tapping automatic runner, we're pretty sure you'll fall in love with Redford's adventure regardless.

From where we stand, it's a smartly designed and at times uncomfortable video game that's definitely worth $0.99. If anything, it'll make you think twice about rubbing your eyes after touching a doorknob.

While this is a pretty and challenging game, it may simply turn out to be one that's a little too rich for your racing blood.

Whether or not this is the best mobile RTS on the App Store is up for debate, but one thing's certain, it's quite excellent all the same.

Put very simply, Inferno+ is everything we want from a twin-stick shooter: gorgeous visuals, a thumping soundtrack, varied gameplay and an intriguing twist on the genre. Even by Radiangames' high standards, this is a fantastic game.

Duckers remains enjoyable and stands out for being the type of experience that'll keep you glued to the screen for several minutes or upwards of an hour. We'll stop short of calling it mindless, since there's a bit of strategy involved when it comes to treasure-hunting and avoiding stuff. In all, another quality effort from the folks at Retro Dreamer.

Had Defiant Development created a more full-featured experience and sold it for $0.99-$4.99, we may have proclaimed it the dungeon crawler to beat all dungeon crawlers, at least on mobile. As it stands, this game's a missed opportunity, and we doubt it'll make it into our play list even a week from now.

There's no denying the fact that the entire game involves sitting on a swivel and rotating around the same old scenery. There simply aren't enough stages in the game, and the lack of creativity with the weapons means you'll see everything this title has to offer within an hour, at best.

So yes, Virtual Tennis Challenge has some issues, and it would have been nice to see actual players instead of made-up dudes, but it's still an entertaining and at times intense sports game with attractive graphics and a fairly deep tournament mode.

If you've historically been put off by the complexity of Sid Meier's other titles, this is a lovely action-simulation that will lead you gently into the genre. For strategy stalwarts, there's nothing to fear from this very different Meier game, because it really is a huge amount of fun regardless of your typical gaming preferences.

One of the beefiest tower defense games on the App Store. If you have lots of time to kill, this is three bucks well spent.

Give it a go if you've grown tired of other favorites such as Temple Run or Jetpack Joyride.

As a member of the farming-sim cash-grab genre, it's no more or less offensive than any other of its kind. It's also a pretty and well-executed game, with an equally likeable soundtrack and plenty of good humor.

Overall, we like Tiny Plane, as it provides that all-important "just one more try" element that helps make it addictive. Unfortunately, we struggled getting online multiplayer to work.

Air Mail could've been exceptional, but as it stands, the game will just have to settle for being great, with beautiful art work, tight controls and fun exploration/time-based play.

Bee Leader is quite a welcome surprise, a somewhat relaxing, stylish and fun video game that hopefully offers a small glimpse of bigger things to come, AKA a slew of downloadable levels that further expand this smartly-designed concept.

While light on narrative, This Could Hurt comes with an abundance of 3D platforming goodness that'll challenge players of all skill levels. And with just four worlds to explore, it should evolve over time as the developers figure out new ways to drive us nuts. Worth checking out.

While Mario Tennis Open is one of the shallowest Nintendo sports games we've seen, it's still highly enjoyable, well-polished and attractive, with Nintendo once again proving that it's the master of glasses free 3D. Worth a look for solo players, and definitely a must buy for multiplayer.

Everything you've enjoyed about both Harry Potter and the wonderful Lego series of games can be found here: the exploration, the intricate puzzles built into the very fabric of the world, and a chance to savour the world of Potter and friends just one more time. It may not be the best use of the brand, but there's still plenty to be had for existing fans.

Animal rights activists may take issue with the gruesome results, but considering the cartoon-style visuals and light-heartedness contained within, we think everyone should take a chill pill, sit back and do their best to make this virtual world a better place.

Episode 2 disappoints overall, simply because it should have been better than it is. Sega put some good ideas on the table, but the bothersome water segments, tag team maneuvers and uninspired level design left us wanting a lot more. Hardcore Sonic fans, we imagine, will still gobble it up.

A refreshing change of pace from all the runners and tower defense games populating the App Store, and the neat x-ray effects look cool.

Penny Time's replay value may be a little stilted but there are plenty of score-based achievements on hand should you feel the need to compete against yourself.

Despite a few concerns surrounding the finer points of the controls, you can probably guess that we were rather pleased with our time with Frenzy Pop. You'll need a little bit of patience to climb the brick wall the game throws up for you far too early in the game, but if you persevere with it you'll end up with a very rewarding game that proves that precision gaming need not be the preserve of traditional controls only.

N.O.V.A. 3 does exactly what's required of it: more of the same, but better and bigger than ever before. The refined multiplayer offering might still have some kinks in it, but it has potential to provide some extraordinary longevity.
