If all you want is a visually stimulating arcade style racer, this Need For Speed checks the right boxes. Its price is a bit steep, at $9.99 and $6.99 for iOS and Android, respectively, but those willing to spend the cash shouldn't walk away disappointed. Penny pinchers, though, should give Gameloft's Asphalt 7: Heat a serious look, since it provides a similar experience for just $0.99.

We dig the character designs, cartoon world and smashing things. At the same time, the controls need tweaking, and the lack of options in this department make the game a bit more irritating than it should be. In many ways, True Skate represents the very best of what can be achieved with mobile gaming. It makes a virtue out of touchscreen controls, rather than a burden, and it's hard to see how any traditional controller could provide a more tactile and intuitive feel for the skate experience.
