The Callisto Protocol is brutal, violent and will send chills down your spine. What Striking Distance Studios did is far from perfection, but don't let that discourage you. The Callisto Protocol is a horror experience that is well worth getting to know. Just don't expect it to be a legendary game that changes the industry.

Sports titles that choose to get away from reality to deliver a fantasy game often sacrifice sophisticated mechanics for more freedom in the game. The case of Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is no exception. It is an attractive game that does not seek to be a faithful portrayal of soccer, but an arcade experience. Although it takes this approach, it offers many customization options while incorporating fantasy mechanics that delivers a game system which is rewarding and sometimes frustrating and unfair due to some gameplay design issues.

Mirror's Edge Catalyst respects the legacy of the first game. Actually, it is neither better nor worse than its predecessor but the fact that it is a reboot allows a new audience to approach the series. The number of activities, the argument and 30 hours of gameplay make up for the bleak atmosphere of Glass City. DICE seems to have laid strong foundations this time and perhaps this is just the beginning of a new Mirror's Edge series.

The Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition left us with a bittersweet feeling, though more sweet than bitter. On the one hand, the documentary offers a much closer look at its creation, development, and release, and the story behind these points is truly fascinating. We also appreciate the previously unseen documents. As a bonus, it helps explain the changes and what was included in the collection.

A return to form for the Star Fox franchise, Zero is a winning mix of Nintendo's innovative gameplay and Platinum straightforward, dashing action, but it can be confusing for newcomers. It will be divisive, but it shines.

Knack 2 isn't perfect but it represents a giant improvement when compared with the first entry in the series. The flexibility of the combat system and certain gameplay elements reminded us of the golden age of platformers on PS2, and that is definitely a good starting point to redeem the franchise.

Oninaki, Tokyo RPG Factory most recent attempt to reinvent the classic JRPG experience falls short. While the story is emotive and the concept of reincarnation is memorable, it’s hack’n’slash formula turns boring in a flash. Nevertheless, Oninaki remains as a beautifully crafted experience designed for those that are fed up with the traditional turns-based systems, and newcomers in the genre.

Foul Play runs under the premise of being an action filled theater play, so you'll have to keep your audience entertained at all times. The level and character design helps maintain this illusion, and even though you'll see the actor's faces beneath the monster's costumes, the cheering of the crowd will be enough motivation to don your monocle and kick some demonic butt.

The fact that this is the "new" version of a last-gen iteration doesn't suffice when you realize it only adds 2 poorly developed characters and a couple of recycled scenarios. If you are a fan of the series and you are looking to play the game in the current generation of consoles, this is the version you need, just bear in mind that it is not a next-gen game properly speaking, but an adaptation with a couple of irrelevant additions.

Taking an American muscle car at 300 km/h along a gorge, falling hopelessly into the void and ending up maneuvering gracefully an aircraft in an instant is a pleasant driving experience that is rarely seen in the racing genre; but it's just one of the many activities that The Crew 2 has prepared. It’s a game you either love or hate; while fun and accessible, not all of its elements shine as it could.

State of Decay 2 fulfills its premise without being too pretentious as an entry point to the misunderstood zombie survival genre. It is best enjoyed when you step out the safety of your comfort zone to face the horrors of the zombie apocalypse, at least until the experience becomes repetitive.

The Centennial Case : A Shijima Story is a game with very clear strengths and really pronounced weaknesses. In the end,its strengths are what stand out thanks to a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It would be great if its interactive parts were less tedious. However, those who manage to see past its stumbling blocks will find the mystery story engaging.

Dragon Ball: Xenoverse serves as good entry point for those who have never played a title in the series, due to efficient tutorials, tons of fan service and an accessible battle system. Now, if what you want is a great fighting game with Goku and his friends, you might as well look somewhere else, because Xenoverse is more of an online RPG game.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is a good starting point to explore that galaxy far, far away through virtual reality. However, the main value lies in the presentation and the value of the source material, rather than the game itself.

Daemon X Machina scratches an itch only select titles can alleviate. It shines through its cel shading aesthetic, but suffer from a bad control scheme and a horrible camera design that will cause you to miss the action in the game. Piloting a mecha is the best feeling it has to offer, but the game stiff mission scheme turns boring quickly.

Finally, WWE 2K17 is here for current and last generation consoles. The lack of Showcase mode gave the chance to My Career to shine on its own, but instead, showed how badly prepared this mode is compared with other sports games. On the other hand, the game mechanics are slower, hurting overall and experience that need an urgent evolution so the franchise can feel fresh. WWE 2K17 must be taken as a lesson of how a wrestling game should not be.

New Tales From the Borderlands could have been a much better game. There is a huge potential in the Borderlands universe to explore stories about all those people who with their work and sacrifice pay the bills for the eternal greed of corporations. The potential of this world to tell stories we can relate to and then give us the illusion that the little guys can win, even if it's just once, was completely wasted.

Gang Beasts has a special touch on its core mechanic, a good mix between funny physics and functional scenarios that will make you laugh like no other game if you have friends to play on local multiplayer. Clash in the Clouds offers a great opportunity to delve in those action filled moments we all loved in the original game. Although killing wave after wave of enemies in 4 different maps might get old relatively quickly, the implementation of the Blue Ribbons adds variety to gameplay and require a higher strategy level.

Lost Sphear is an Old School JRPG with all it’s letters that takes a lot of the classics of the 90s’. Unfortunately it doesn’t just take the positive parts of those games, but also the cliches, which in one part is great because it brings you back, but it also reminds you how overused the formula is. All around the game is somewhat inconsistent and can become tedious, but it’s fast-paced and rewarding gameplay saves it from all its faults.

Ninja Theory shattered any doubt of its ability with a genius reinvention of Devil May Cry, but their talent with DLC may be questioned after Vergil's Downfall, a brief story that expands on the past of Dante's brother with not so much glamour. There is a handful of missions, each lasting no more than 20 minutes and the cinematics look underdeveloped. For its quality, this piece of downloadable content is not worth the price.

For better or worse, NBA 2K continues to get its way and this year's installment is no exception. If you are an NBA fan looking for a traditional gaming experience to take your favorite team to the top. However, you should know that the full enjoyment of everything that NBA 2K24 offers is limited by its already traditional, and not at all pleasant, transactions.
